Doesn't use the book, don't bother buying it. Interesting to listen to however, hard to understand when he is teaching material instead of telling experiences. Tests are tricky! Loves the brain!
Sucks! Run away from this man!
I liked his class, up until I got my report card. He doesn't curve tests and everyone in my class basically got C's or lower, and no warning. Don't bother to use the book, he doesn't use it. Interesting but the tests are tricky. Watch it with this one.
He is a TERRIBLE teacher. Never, never, never take him EVER!!! His test are impossible, and never goes by the syllabus. He doesn't give good help and never answers questions good. He stinks and Pace should get rid of him.
worst teacher in the world
IMPOSSIBLE
DROP HIS CLASS!!!!! THE ALL TIME WORST!!! YOU WILL LEARN NOTHING!!!! DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP DROP!!!!!!
Doesn't bother pretending he thinks your smart if you're not. So if you're an idiot he'll realize and grade you that way (most pace kids). Only take his class if you are smart and interested in the topic - otherwise run.
This guy quite the class only 3 weeks in. He had a breakdown or something. We thought he died or something. Terrible
You better have good notes because that is solely what his 3 tests for the semester are on. Don't bother buying the text book, it's a $110 waste of money. His tests are very hard but if you study the notes from his lectures long enough, you'll be ok.
What language does this guy teach in??
He is the worst professor. He will fail you if you do not answer the questions on his test in his words. Even if you have all the right answers! Stay away besides that, he is really rude. I can't beleive he is still working at Pace!!!
The worst professor by far. Stupid jokes interfere with his "lectures". Makes jokes about mental illnesses which is pretty ironic considering he is a "psych" professor. You know the material going into the exam but he grades like he'
Wasted $110 on a textbook which I MEMORIZED chapters out of and got a 75 on the first test. I went into this semester with a 4.0. Now I'm taking an F and retaking it with Professor McManus because she actually CARES and hopes her students do well
if you come to class and are good at memorizing, its not that bad. The bad part is sitting through class, he is in love with himself
An awesome teacher-anyone who doesn't like him doesn't have a sense of humor. If you're not a Psych major, dont take his classes, because he's not an easy teacher. He's really smart and is willing to help you if you ask him, but he is NOT an easy A!
Worst professor by far. I honestly spent more time studying and working for this class than all other classes combined and failed this class and recieved all B's or higher for all other classes. He is not funny at all, very hard and no compasion.HeSucks
He is the worst. I used to be a psychology major and although I got an A- in his class, when I was done with him I ran to change my major.
He is one of the best teachers in the psychology department. he knows his stuff and has passion for his career. But if you don't like science you won't like him. He is very helpful
HORRIBLE RUN FOR YOU LIFE!!!!!!!!!! HE FAILS HALF THE CLASS AND PASSES WHO HE REMEMBERS! Thinks he is GOD! RUN
his tests are very easy. He lets you know in advanve what is going to be on it. His final was not cumalative.
Cool as hell . . . attendance not required . . . tests are easy and cumulative .. just gotta study...
Great, great professor! His exams are easy if you study well. Everything's straightforward, directly from his lecture. He has such enthusiasm for his subject.
Professor is the best damn teacher in the psychology department by far and likely the best of Pace University. I got a 100 on one test last semester without studying anything. He is easy does not assign work of ANY kind and is funny as HELL.
Prof Hines rocks. He is humorous intelligent and a very easy teacher. His lectures are intresting and he makes sure that you enjoy them. He is also really cool with bonus points. Just take notes listen and have fun with him.
DO not take his class unless he is the ony psyc class left. He is horrible. Trust me. If you can wait next semester please do believe me.
HE IS THE MAN. YEA TAKE HIS CLASS BOYS AND GIRLS BECAUSE HE SUPER COOL AND OTHER STUFF LIKE THAT.
He was a very good teacher, and he really knowa what he is talking about. Its great to have a teacher that has done a lot of research in his field. He also is interesting and keeps your attention.
THIS GUY IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST TEACHER ON THIS PLANET!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT EVER TAKE HIM FOR ANY CLASS EVER!!!!!!!!!!! HE LOVES TO FAIL PEOPLE!!!!!!!!! NEVER TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!
He was good. Many hate him, say he's unclear. He only puts a few things from the book on the test. He says what he's putting on the test and it's not cumulative. I got an A, he was enjoyable at 8am 2x a week.
professor hines is the worst professor.i strongly recommend that you take pysch with another teacher. Hes boring and unclear. He says his tests are directly from his lecture but he digresses so much that its hard to tell what is important and whats not.
do not take this man's class he is horrible wait wait he loves to fail students. if u like F's he's ur man
Horrible professor!! If you like psychology you definitely won't anymore. His tests are difficult. Bring a tape recorder because he talks really fast. Don't buy the book you never use it and you don't need it for exams!!
HORRIBLE, He is the worst. Punch him in the face if you see him. His tests are not fair, and he doesnt ever help his students. DONT EVER TAKE HIM. WORST TEACHER EVER
I hate this class. Hines is a good professor but sometimes its hard to understand what exactly he is talking about. I only took him because my advisor suggested him. Is hould have read his ratings maybe i would have passed his class if i had known what i know now a few motnsh ago. :(
Hines is not so bad, you have to study, but if you do you'll learn a lot. You can't space out in class, but if you listen if gives tons of info, really good teacher and really smart guy
He seems like a decent guy and is kinda funny. His class can be a little repetitive, but other than that it's not bad. The class is pretty easy as long as you go and pay attention.
im surprised not alot of ppl like him..i thought he was such a nice guy..he doesnt take attendance either! how can u get better than that? hes very leanent and hes a sweet guy
How many extra credit points did he offer for people to come on here and post nice things (lies) about him? Honors students have had to retake this class because he's so bad (and its INTRO to psych!). If you have never heard of him and are thinking of taking his class, ask around first. You'll get the answer you need.
I took him for the second intro to psych. It was a few years ago, and he was tough. It was like neuropsych! After the first exam (that everyone bombed)another professor came in to teach the class. There were rumors going around as to why he stopped teaching the class, but whatever the reason was, I was happy to have someone else.

He sucked as a professor..he talked TOO fast during lecture and practically ran out of class once it was over. Doesn't like spending extra time with his students who need advice and help, yet has no problem dumping his opinions and criticisms about Pace during lecture. Tests are rediculous & only 3 a semester..they're hard.
I took Professor Hines for many psy classes and I can understand why some people think he is terrible BUT if you actually like psy and pay attention and take notes he is a great professor who really knows what he is talking about and was super helpful outside of class if you showed you were committed to the work.
Really easy, pay attention in class n you'll pass. Everything he say's is on the test. You don't really use text. Understanding and copperative if you have you need extra help or time on things. Test is all lecture notes. If you can't listen then don't take him
Class is all about the lecture, not big on textbook. You have to at least get the notes if you want to get anything on the test right. Tends to go on a tangent and speak too long about his daughter and the guy Stuart he hates.
In the middle of the semester he meets with his students to let them know how they are doing. I was given no indication that I must try harder or given any advice on how to get my grade up. You must remember all his boring examples for the exams.
He is a hard teacher, but he is a genius. If you actually pay attention, take good and comprehendible notes then you should do fine. His grades are based off of 3 tests so make sure you study. Many complain about him and I understand why, but I still think he is an awesome teacher.
He does not go by the textbook at all. Its all about the notes he gives. So make sure you take very good ones. The man is so smart he is sometimes hard to understand. He doenst really use the board, he just speaks. Listen and write QUICKLY.Since my notes sucked I tried studying from the book but failed 3/4 of his tests. Kiss his ass. i got a B+ :)
worst! Hines had to have written some of these himself. Never uses the book, incomprehensable and random lectures, not available for help, pushes his opinions on you, cannot stand someone speaking for themselves or against his own opinions...think again before signing into any of his classes
he is interesting and knows a lot but he gives no notes and all he does is talk. its very hard to take notes because when he is explaining something he talks SO FAST! his exams aren't too bad though. as long as u read the book on your own time you should be fine
Doesn't use a text book and the info is hard. Not a great teaching style.
If you want an easy A, walk away. He teaches his class close to a med school level because he's a neurologist. As long as you read the book ahead of time, take good notes, and study all of the material you'll do fine. His test are short answer, choose 20/25 questions. Make sure you go over answers when he hands back a test; You might get 10pts back.
If you want a challenging professor take his class. He's not the best teacher, but if you ask questions and engage with him, you'll wind up learning a lot. His tests are hard but if you know the material, it will show in your grade. People who dont like to study complain about him. Class is as difficult as it should be. This is college, not HS.
Just PAY ATTENTION! He lectures all class but all the info you need is given to you. He is helpful if you ask questions, so stay engaged. Use his studyguides as an outline of what to read from the book and you'll do well for the tests. 2 tests + 1 paper is all you are graded on, so make them count! His sarcasm isn't for all, but I loved it.
I took this man last year and put it to you this way. He was the reason I changed my major from Psychology to Communications. Intro to Psychology should not resemble medical school. My own advisor told me never to take him again and avoid him at all costs. He talks fast and it's hard to take notes, tests are impossible, wound up with a C. Blah.
Ignore the harsh comments, most of the kids at pace are lazy. I love professor Hines. His classes are really interesting. Most class have crazy amounts of really awesome discussions, fascinating class martial, and he is really sarcastic and funny. JUST REMEMBER TO STUDY! It's worth it, if you enjoy learning.
Professor Hines is a very interesting man. he talks fast. He always has irrelevant story time. He's an athiest and this is ok but he should not make jokes and speak bad of other religions. Hard to understand at times very dry and boring stay away from this man and his disgusting classes it would be in your best interest
GOOD: very smart and knowledgeable man, doesnt care about attendance, funny. BAD: If you miss one class you're screwed because he lectures nonstop for 2 hours without a break at a medical school level (even in PSY111)and to make it worse he talks way TOO FAST (impossible to write or type it all) and his tests are purely based on his lectures.
Great Professor
Just a great professor. Pace needs more professors like Hines. He is straight forward and contains a wealth of knowledge. He does talk fast but when he is on a role you are learning a lot of great information.
I don't understand why people keep saying he doesn't use the textbook. He won't TELL you it's coming straight from the book, but if you have some incentive, you'll find everything there. Cynical, but I took the class to learn, not worry about his opinions. He's a GENIUS and his lectures reflect that. If you get lost ASK. Loved him and his class.
He's a good teacher and I would take his class again. He lectures a lot but ALWAYS dismisses early. I maybe stayed the full time twice. If you are a good note taker you will be okay because the tests are straight from his lectures. Funny and a GENIUS. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Incredible professor. Interesting lectures that make you want to go to class. The highest quality course I've taken at Pace University and I wish I had taken him sooner. He's easy to talk to and always willing to go over tests and assignments with you. Highly, highly recommended!
Very smart professor. Great at what he does, but you always have to keep yourself on top of your studies. Very hard grader
Best classes I've ever taken! Also super hard, you had to really pay attention and do the work, but I got an A and I really felt like I learned! If you're not willing to put in the work- do not take!
Hines really knows his stuff, but he talks way too fast and basically teaches at a med school level. I studied for days before his quizzes and still pretty much failed (his grading is very tough), so if you want your GPA to go way downhill, then take the course. Good luck!!!
This Professor is knowledgeable in neuroscience. But unless you also have a PhD in neuroscience it will be a very challenging course. There were no PowerPoints with lectures only his speaking. It can be very challenging to take cohearent notes. Tests/Quizzes are often a surprise with what will be asked. Avoid if you can, it was not fun.
I took this class freshman year, no good. He doesn't use powerpoints, he just talks and babbles about nonsense. You really have to pay attention in order to figure out what you actually need to know. The textbook is good for teaching yourself the info but it doesn't have everything that will be on his tests. Notetaking is very hard in this class.
Prof. Hines is a nice guy. However, his class is extremely difficult. When you have a class with him he doesn't use power points and speaks the entire time. So your expected to write notes, but he speaks very fast which is very difficult for some people. He also spoke in medical terms which confused the hell out of me because im not medical student
Prof. Hines is a nice guy. His class is extremely difficult. Doesn't use power points, he talks the entire time. Can be very difficult for students that aren't accustomed to this teaching style. Talks very fast, which can be difficult to write notes. He speaks to the class as medical students, which we aren't. Wouldn't recommend.
Hines is the exact reason that I was excited for College. His lectures are heavy and the tests are hard, but if you pay attention and ask questions you will get an A. He talks a lot and has clearly a lot of experience in his field. He has hilarious anecdotes which make his class really fun. I really enjoyed Hines' class and I really learned a lot.
Very confusing lecture most have nothing to do with the class
This class inspired me to actually learn. Once the professor comes in you start taking notes right away. He lectures mostly from memory. His humor and humility have a way of reaching each student. I personally found tests easy, if you attend each class, take notes, and read them over. There's extra cr. points on ea. test. Best professor of late.
I personally enjoyed his class a lot! He is a nice guy and knows what he is talking about. Does extra credit on some of the quizzes! It can be hard for some people because he does not do multiple choice but what I would recommend is record his lectures so that you can listen to it after class since he does not do any sort of power points or notes.
He is a good guy, however, unless you are really into the subjects that he teaches I do not recommend him at all. There's no powerpoints, very quiz-heavy, and lectures can go on for a long time. But if you do know your stuff, your probably in for a good time. Also sometimes he gets off topic and sometimes it's some interesting stories.
Prof Hines can't find a G sport, so he claims it doesn't exist, which carries over to almost everything he believes. Ironically enough he loves the untested Covid big pharma vaccines... not sure why, but makes me skeptical of his logic and overall thought processes. As a professor, you can clearly see this bias.
Professor is not very helpful if you have a problem, does not present or provide lecture slides, does not provide links to the papers you have to read, all exam questions are open response, no study guides, speaks fast, goes off topic often. If this does not fit your learning style avoid at all costs
Class just wasn't for me. He has his moments but doesn't provide PowerPoint slides while lecturing for 2 hours (Makes it hard for coherent notes). His exams are on his lectures more than the book too so you won't really know what to expect on quizzes. If you're a visual learner or expecting a fun psychology class I would think twice.
The entire class was an actual nightmare. No textbook that related to his lectures, no notes, no resources in anyway besides him talking. Even students who wrote notes didn't do well because he gave no test material. He gave no study guide. If u want to take PSY 112 I would recommend taking it with someone else unless you want a challenge.
Pr. Hines never answers emails and when he finds time to do so he's very disrespectful and unprofessional. I've never felt so hopeless and discouraged as a student and human being. I recommend Pace to get rid of him and all students steer clear of any of his courses for your own mental health.
You have to be very patient and a good listener. Lecture heavy. Untimely (if answered) email replies. Suggested I withdraw from class 2 months into the semester, after just asking to take a quiz another day. I had a death in my family and needed more time, but his tone sounded like it was irresponsible that I didn't know what was going on in class.
His entire class failed the exam and he blamed the class instead of reflecting on his teaching style, even going as far to say "whoever answered this question is clearly not mentally there". Pretty much sums of the type of professor he is, avoid avoid avoid.
