she is an affionado of science and you can tell when she gets into the lecture. however, her tests are hard and tricky. you should take the class if you really want to learn rather than getting an easy A.
A very intelligent woman who knows her stuff. She makes sure you understand the lectures, and makes an effort to keep the class engaged. The tests are hard, but if you study her lectures, you can get an A.
She is very eduacated in Biology, and has worked at UCLA for many years. She knows her stuff very good, and her testa can be hard and tricky. My advice would be not to take her class as a filler, or if you are not a Biology major. However, if you are a Biology major, the challenge will be good for u
She is extremely willing to help and will go out of her way to explain material. Great teacher if you want to learn. However, you will have to work hard to get an A. Her tests are hard but you end up learning a lot.
Dr. Palos is one of the best teachers that I've ever had. She is very explanatory in every concept and will even stop and break them down if there's any confusion. She has an awesome fire for teaching biology which is not commonly found in teachers. Her tests are clear-cut and non-ambiguous.
She makes you understand biology.
very moody, ramble on about random tangents, very aggressive...made me and several other bio majors dislike bio, not helpful.

Awesome teacher, she'll go out of her way to answer any questions. Make sure you participate in class
Worst Teacher ever, she ruined my GPA and many of my classmates GPA's as well.
worst bio teacher i have ever had she gave me a C in her class and really messed things up for me she prounonces all names wrong and she's always high on caffine
do not take her class!!!not only is she the most difficult teacher, she is unclear with her exam questions as well(100 mult. choice, 20 short answer questions,& 1 essay)to do in 1.5 hour.she thinks she's always right in any situation; the students are never ever right according to her.
the tests are extremely hard. the lecture tests are fairly okay, but the lab tests are what will really kill you. and they count for almost a quarter of the grade, not saying that the lecture tests are easy because they're not. Palos is a nice person, but not so much of a teacher.
If yu want an easy A this class is not for yu, but if yu really want to learn biology from an experienced highly educated professor, then take her class. Yu will learn so much and her class prepares you for further bio classes. This class is extremely challenging but Dr Palos is very helpful and will go out of her way to explain things and help yu
hard but you can do well
This class is tough. It moves very quickly. Don't take this with too many others. If you have the time to study really really hard, you will do well, though. This should be a 5 unit class.
SHE THE MOST DIFFICULT TEACHER 1/UNCLEAR 2/ NOT ORGANIZED 3/NOT HELPFUL!!! TAKE HER ONLY IF U WANNA A "F" FROM HER
This class is very challenging, but it is not impossible to do well. You need to study and read on your own. What I like most about Dr. Palos is her experience. She has a PhD and many years of post doctorial training to back up everything she says. Also, she goes out of her way to provide the latest news and info that pertains to Bio/Pre meds.
Excellent lab teacher. Lecture was clear and easy to understand. Only problem is they dont really prepare you for her exams which are difficult unless you're able to spend a million hours outside of class studying this stuff. She is very nice though and encourages you to ask questions and come to office hrs.
LOVE DR PALOS. GREAT teacher. She seriously knows her stuff and so it makes more you more confident in her teaching. Definitely READ THE BOOK, but her lectures are GREAT (if you're paying attention and WRITING IT ALL DOWN). I got a B in the class but i probably could have gotten an A if I had studied just a couple hrs more each week. HIGHLY RECC
She is an amazing teacher....really knows what she is teaching. the class is difficult, you need to attend every class and pay attention to what she says. Reading is also mandatory
Okay this class is extremely hard and she wants you to know every little thing about everything! You have to memorize your book and her notes to get an A! Good teacher but she expects too much from her students....she doesnt understand that you are taking more classes than this one! Take the challenge
okey Dr. P is a great teacher.very helpfull and understanding and her lecture was very intresting. The big problem was the exam questions was difficult even though you know the materials from the lecture and the book the questions are applying it. very challenging but if you spend to much time on it you will at least get a B.
Whew! Read ahead of her lectures, ask for lecture handouts, and do not memorize but understand the material and you will be fine. Oh and do the questions at the end of each chapter, her test question may me similar. Except for lab, just memorize.
She's a wonderful teacher. She knows what she's talking about and very passionate about her work and for students. She's willing go to extra miles to help. Must take her for any bio related classes
Her lectures are very confusing. Her tests are impossible, I was always wondering "what is she asking for?"
Super confusing. She is not specific in her questions, and you must answer them with what you would otherwise believe to be too much information. KNOW THE DETAILS (including the #s on everything). And then, if you're too wordy with not enough details, she'll dock you points for that too. Be concise. Knowing the way the book words thingsis NECESSARY
IF you are looking for an easy A, just walk away from the bio field and don't even face Dr. P. She really knows her stuff, and I liked how she made me a better student, but her exams were very difficult particularly because she is a harsh grader. You must know all details to each topic. Final is not ****ulative, but is important to know the concepts
Dr. Palos is a really nice lady who is very enthusiastic about the subject. She makes lectures go by soo quick because you are soo engaged with what she is talking about. STUDY STUDY STUDY...Her tests were pretty hard. Labs, you had to just memorize the material. This class will take a lot out of you..but keep with it..She will help you!
Dr. Palos is a very hard teacher. If you are looking for an easy A, do not take this class! You will have to study for this 3 unit class more than any other science class! Slides are confusing, and you will have to take a lot of notes on your own. As a person though, she is friendly and approachable. Be prepared for lots of office hour time!
i didn't buy or use the assigned textbook. also didn't take notes, only read the handouts and LISTENED to the lectures; and somehow managed to pull a B. she's prolly one of the most energetic bio teachers i've ever known...but then again molecular biology is interesting, especially when taught by dr. paloss.
Excellent teacher!! Be prepared to study at least 10-12 hours per week outside of class. Very interesting and energetic - lectures will keep you very engaged. Recommend her highly!
Took her class cause there was no space avail. in other micro33 class. Biggest mistake ever!!! Liked her lectures (very clear about everything) totally enjoyed it, but her exams are awful. Her lectures isn't how her exam is... if u wanna pass this class, don't bother! It was ridiculous!!! I should of listened to my other classmates.
My biggest mistake while being at El Co is taking this horrendous class. I really like biology, but I can't stand Palos. To be frank, she tries way too hard to explain the concepts. She over thinks everything as she is trying to lecture to us and it just comes out confusing and vague. The most annoying professor I've ever had.
Dr. Palos is a great professor! She comes off as intimidating in front of the class, but she's very approachable and is always willing to explain anything if you ask her. Go see her during office hours. Her class isn't easy, but if you stay on top of the reading, ask her questions when you have any, you will do fine. She's very caring.
By far the best bio teacher ive had, clearly knows the material and can clearly portray it to students. The class is a little hard because its a biology class, no escaping that. Notes are up online and she really prepares you for future coursework. Read the book only if she really stresses something. she LIVES for biology, no joke...
Seriously one of the best teachers I've ever had. I graduated from a 4-year university but was uninspired by the teachers I had there, then I took this class, not expecting to get much out of it but boy was I wrong! Dr. Palos taught me everything I needed to know about Bio for the MCAT and for resarch. She's hard, but you'll learn so much.
Excellent science prof as far as professors go in 2-year and 4-year schools. I've had profs at a UC school which were inferior compared to Dr. P's enthusiasm and ability to clarify topics, especially during office hrs. Take good notes during lecture, revise your notes, use the text to clarify topics, work during lab, get an A.
amazing teacher helpful, understanding n caring.wants her students to understand the subject n pass.written part of tests can affect grade.shes not as bad as people say, people who talk crap just didnt want to study.must study a lot!no matter what, its a hard class!one of the best teachers i have ever had!
Palos is an extremely thorough teacher. If you are looking for an easy A this is not the class to take. Going into this class with a bio background helps a lot. If you do not have a bio background you need to read the textbook, otherwise you can get an A just buy thoroughly reading the lecture notes.Shes not very approachable either.
Dr. Palos is by far the best teacher I've had. She teaches with passion and though her classes will be one of the most time-committing you've had, you really gain a great work ethic and feel like you earned a grade
The negative reviews for Dr Palos are about her being "hard". It's hard subject matter, crammed into a semester, so she has to keep going even if you don't understand in class, but that's why you read ahead, so that her lecture is review to you. She may seem unapproachable in class, but if you go to her office hours, you'll see a complete change.
Dr Palos is one of my favorite bio teachers, she knows her stuff and will help you until you get it. Great lecture format (a lot of wasted paper though), if you pay good attention during class, you shouldnt have trouble getting a good grade. I took her bio major classes -- shes great
Bio 102 is hard, but Palos is so dedicated and caring to her students. She is so passionate about her subject, def knows her stuff. She has is so good at explaining the complex concepts. Always stops to let students ask questions; if you don't understand, she'll stop the whole lecture to help clarify the confusion. BEST PROF EVER ...TAKE HER CLASS!
Any Micro class is not going to be an easy class so do not be fooled by people on here that are more frustrated with their lack of effort rather than Dr. Palos's teaching style. Yes Dr. Palos can be intimidating at first but it is just because she is so passionate about her work. She is one of the few teachers who actually enjoy what they do!
Palos was a great professor even tough her class was rather challenging. She knew her stuff and was willing to help her students. However, I still hate her because she treats her students like kindergarteners with making sure that we've been working on lab notebooks every week and hovering over you while doing lab. So annoying.
SO AWESOME. This class was out of this world~ This class is not easy, plan on studying hard. Pay attention in lecture, read the book, look at the slides before hand, and most of all, GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Dr. Palos will help you understand to the next level, necessary for those essay questions on quizzes and exams.
Palos is no doubt one of the best professors I ever taken and I am glad to have her as my professor. She does an amazing job at lecture by providing a lot of detail as well as helping you understand the material. It's true her tests are tough but that is based on if you have the time to study. Don't just memorize the material, understand it.
Palos is no doubt the best teacher I ever had at Elco. Her lectures are amazing as she provides details to explain the material, and if you dont understand it go to her OH and she will help you. Record her lectures to make life easierIts true her tests are hard because they require a lot of time to study. Dont memorize the material, understand it.
It's not essential to write down everything she says in class. Read the textbook instead. She always says, "If you do the reading the tests and quizzes take care of themselves". I read a lot for her class and find her class notes to be oversimplified. They should be the backbone to your learning, but to understand the material, DO THE READING.
Yes, it's a hard clsss.. but it's one of those where the amount of time and effort you put in shows clearly through your grades.. I regret a lot not trying hard enough.. but I would recommend her. She has a lot of knowledge in biology; definitely a great professor! Go to her office hours..
She is absolutely the BEST biology professor I have ever taken. Biology is not an easy subject, so you have to work for it regardless of who you take it with. Dr. Palos however makes it crystal clear; makes you learn not the material not just memorize it! She is there for you if you need help, and you can truly see how passionate she is about bio.
Passionate and knowledgeable about subject, very animated, makes sure you understand material. Online and in person office hours. Tests are majority open answer, w few multiple choice. Not easy class material. Textbook is more supplemental, study material contained in lecture PowerPoints. Her favorite saying: "Let's complicate things"
Dr. P has to be the best Bio Professor I have had in college so far. Her lectures are interesting, engaging & concise. She may be a tough grader but her grading scale makes up for it. Listen carefully to her lecs to score well on her quizzes (she looks for specific key words) & use any biology txt bk to expand on her notes for her exams. Take her!
She's an amazing, passionate teacher. Make sure to come to class, participate, and go over the notes and you've got the A. Everything she tests on is exactly what has been covered in class.
Dr. Palos knows her subject & is passionate about it. That doesnt make her a good teacher. Everyone was scared to ask her questions. She wld berate & belittle you in front of everyone for doing so. She was rude, had control & ego issues. She showed no concern for her students. Ive never had such an awful professor. Glad to be done with her
Honestly felt bombarded with class material. Highly recommend for UC preparation, because she does know the UC system and intentionally prepares her students for the UC's. Also highly recommend if you are a serious pre-med student. If you want an A and don't study much don't bother enrolling in her class. Lab tests are a pain as well.
She is very passionate about the subject. Her lectures are kind of long (2-3 hours). Lab everyday, quiz for every chapter. She claims "I don't give grades, you earn them." Exams are hard (70-80 multiple choices and 5-15 short answers) but quizzes (15 multiple choices) are doable with couple tricky questions.
Palos is a good teacher. Micro in itself is a difficult course. Palos is very organized and helpful. She wants you to succeed. She have power points for every chapter study those more in depth and you will do just fine in her class. You never are guessing what you need to know and how in depth. I really like her and I am glad I took her.
Ive had Palos for a month now. I didnt quite understand her poor ratings. She is organized, professional, passionate about teaching, always available for additional questions... then I took her first exam. I studied for HOURS and felt confident in the information I retained however, her exam worded questions in ways that confused/tricked you.
Although participation is not required, she likes those who do participate or ask questions. She is very organized, and she lectures off of her power point notes. For exams, she gives you almost 100 multiple choice qs and another written portion to complete in an hour and 30 min. Pretty intense.
Okay so you have a PhD from UCLA, seriously questioning this because sorry to say your teaching, lectures, are nothing special. This prof cant get asking questions down right. Yes science is hard, I get that, but understanding your questions shouldnt be. You def are not a jewel of a teacher, and a community college prof for sure, quality poor!
Palos is unapproachable. People are scared to ask her questions. If you are going to take her make sure to take detailed notes and READ the textbook. And beware of her trick questions in the quizzes.
She is the best teacher that I have ever had, highly recommended! If you want to learn Biology, take her class. You can be sure that you will remember everything that you learned later on. She really teaches everything in detail. Her exams are hard but in the end, you will be highly rewarded!
An A with Dr. Palos barely get's you an A- at UCLA. However, her style of teaching is very much in with that of UCLA. Take advantage of her expertise and her availability, ask question and make sure you understand her material because you are not going to get this kind of care at a university. Be sure to save her notes, you're going to need them.
Lecture and slides are word for word from the book. Expects you to memorize all of it in great detail, not an exaggeration. You must use those details in your short response that is essay long just to get a small amount of points. All other details will be covered in multiple choice. Very disrespectful and condescending when talking to students.
bio 102 is not a hard class tbh. you could easily have an A in this class if you study on ur own and dont go to any of the lectures. if you have any questions, u could ask her. she's very approachable. she makes stuff sound harder than they are. even whenever she talks about life. she loves bio and i loved that about her. but as a prof, she's meh.
(Online) Not really accommodating. Shes very nice but this class is intense. Quizzes are 15 minutes and 15 questions long. Most points on the exams come from free response. Dont take her exceptions lightly. For both you can only see one question at a time. Just take with caution of your environment and responsibilities. The class requires a lot.
Dr. P is an awesome professor! Her classes are tough but you can do it. Dr. P really prepares you for upper division courses. Don't just read her powerpoints and take the exam. Know all mechanisms BY HEART, test yourself. Don't just be able to recall certain things, be able to EXPLAIN every topic in detail without any assistance. Good Luck!!!
Not a good pandemic class. Professor was backed up with grading .By mid semester we were 3 test deep and she only had graded 1!? + Tests are tricky - timed - rushed . lab portion was ok -lab test were tough - lab assignments weren't graded on time either so if it was wrong you'd never know. read, re watch lectures while filing out study guide .
Worst professor, I have ever had. She assigned us copious amounts of work to the point that it was overbearing. She was extremely rude and condensing, showing no respect or care for her students. She sent an email complaining that she was the only person affected by covid and implied that we don't have "other responsibilities." Avoid at all costs.
This class consists of lectures and reading textbook- no other guidance for learning the material. For my first time ever taken a micro class, this has been extremely difficult and confusing. Her study guides for test are questions that you need to figure out- no answers to verify your work. It's like I am teaching myself Micro. Also, late grader.
Only grades by exams, no homework. Lectures are said to be optional, however they are not. Prof is not accommodating to schedule changes, also does not follow rubric schedule.
This professor is expecting for every student to know every single little thing once she says it. Her exams are online with a ridiculous amount of questions in such a short amount of time.( 50 MC questions with 5 essay questions in less than 2 hours) She doesn't take the time to apply students suggestions about her teaching or anything.
There was so much on un communication. She used three different platforms to assign and turn in work witch made it confusing and hard to keep up with. I never got to see the grades I was getting for the work already turned in. For my first time taking a microbiology it was the hardest course ever.
Professor makes exams extremely hard for no reason and gives subpar lectures. A lot of the time it seems like questions come out of nowhere and she give no indication on how to study for the test. There are only a few tests and the exam format is brutal in how she sets it up. She expects you to know way to much without telling you the specifics.
This class is the worst class ive taken at cc. 3 tests, 3 quizzes, 1 paper is all we were graded on. Tests and quizzes were mc and had lots of essay questions, and the questions came out of no where. Like wed have to write an entire essay on something that was skimmed over once. Everything was graded so hard and we never get tests or quizzes back
Palos is hands down the worst professor I've ever had. She doesn't care about her students' input or success. Her quizzes/tests are insanely rushed. When students perform poorly she sends a downright mean email just to make students feel bad. She discourages questions and always speaks in a condescending manner. AVOID TERESA PALOS AT ALL COSTS
Palos is in my top 3 most disrespectful profs I've ever had. Incredibly condescending & wants constant engagement in zoom lectures, but if u answer wrong she puts u down and makes u not want to participate anymore. The labs were fine. Lectures were so boring. Read the book instead. Takes forever to grade & doesn't release exam answers for review.
Dr. Palos is a great professor. Microbiology is not an easy subject so I don't know what others expect for difficulty. Dr. P was super helpful and nice and NEVER condescending. She answered all and every single question asked. Encourages participation, but why is that a bad thing? Super attentive in lab, respectful, and made micro interesting.
She is a terrible professor. She not only does a horrible job teaching, but she also has an attitude when students ask questions. She encourages us to ask questions while completely degrading you. Her quizzes/tests are extremely difficult, whereas the lectures only cover half of the material. I would not recommend her at all!!
Dr. Palos is knowledgeable and has an unmistakable passion for science. Her lectures are very detailed and you need to be an independent learner/thinker to do well. She got upset a lot about COVID and often got mad at the class for not asking enough questions. She's not very approachable but if you're smart and put in lots of work, you'll be ok
Her lectures are very heavy and detailed. She expects you to know everything that was said. She often gets upset when students do not ask questions and when you do she gives you an attitude. Her quizzes/test are difficult. She is not approachable. The worst professor I've had. Avoid her if you can.
Passionate prof but class is lecture heavy, lot of detail she expects you know much of it beforehand. Does not give exams back only tells you the percentage you got so there is no way to find out what you could improve on. Upset when students don't do well on exams or quizzes. Not every approachable and comes off as condescending towards students.
Strict and big on, "you earn your grade". Quizzes after every lecture which keeps you on top of studying, DO EVERY CHAPTER STUDY GUIDE, after every lecture. They helped me get good scores in the quizzes. Test are hard but she gives partial points on the written. LAB exams weren't bad, if you take notes during Lab exam review. Do the lab journal!
Probably one of the worst professors I've ever had. Her lectures are heavy and the study guides are useless. She quizzes us on material that she talks about briefly. Doesn't give back quizzes or tests. Not approachable. Students always hesitated to ask questions because she was always rude and would call us out in front of the whole class.
A solid professor. Not too too much out of class work, and the tests + etc. are doable. The class will be slightly curved if the class average is on the lower side, and a few points of EC were given here and there. Open for Office Hours, pretty good at answering questions. Took her In Person Spring 2022.
She makes bio 130 extremely difficult. She is a very harsh grader takes a lot of points off. This is her last time teaching this class, AWESOME. I wouldn't recommend taking any of her Biology classes. Her averages are in the D and low C range. If the class is failing she will fail you. She isn't an easy A. I recommend studying everyday for her.
Palos is a force to be wrecking with. She is lecture heavy on her powerpoints and expects you to know everything on them. She is very picky grading and would dissect your answers to the spaces between them. Make sure you study the material as if you were gonna write a book. Overall, she prepares you will for upper division classwork.
Weekly quiz or exam forces you to always be on top of things and her grading can be harsh and hyper-specific. She's blunt but it's just her personality bc she makes jokes and gives good advice if you ask her. She's passionate about the material which makes lectures engaging and inspiring. I recommend her to anyone passionate about Biology.
Do not take her classes. Her quizzes are like her notes given out, kind of, but her tests are random and incoherent with what goes on in the chapters. Her lab tests are extremely hard and ask random questions that were never discussed in given lab notes. She is very rude, do not take that lightly, and she will make you feel lesser than.
Dr. Palos is an awesome and conscientious professor I have ever studied with. She gives us every quiz after each lecture to encourage us to do the exam better. She prepared lecture and lab handouts shared with us on Google Drive. We can catch up the concepts precisely and how the class going. You will earn grades depending on how much you studying.
This professor was one of the lasting regrets I have from El Camino. This course ruined many future opportunities along with any respect for her. I am so saddened that El Camino doesn't take students' annoyances and complaints seriously as she would no longer be teaching if they did. I hope nobody has to endure her or her class.
Did not follow the rubric schedule, ended up having four things due during the last week of the semester. Very rude. Added content to the lab exam that wasn't included in the lab exam review and even included things discussed in lecture rather than during lab sessions. Does not upload grades onto canvas
She does not follow a single one of her weekly schedule and these quizzes that everyone is talking about in the reviews, were utterly useless because they were nothing like the test, all it did was give you stress hives. As a professor, you should be more kind and respectful to your students but alas she was not. Please avoid her is you can.
El Camino needs to do evaluations for their STEM professors, it's not just or fair with how little options we have and because of that, what professors we have to suffer through. Please do not take her, if you must, pray that God is in you somewhere. Her grading system is ridiculous and her tests are even worse. Please avoid.
Professor Palos is my favorite professor I've taken at ECC. Her class is not easy but microbio is also not an easy course! There's a quiz about every week to encourage studying but they are simple. Stay on top of the reading, they are easy points. She can be intimidating at first but she's passionate about what she teaches and it rubs off on you.
Read the entire textbook front to back legit and it didn't help me in the long run. Her quizzes gave me stress hives because they never went well and left me feeling dumber than I thought I was. She doesn't have compassion and is just straight up rude when asked anything. It's not passion, it's just rude.
You'll work like a dog to receive the bare minimum grade. I hated her class so much it's was unbearable. Don't expect to ever get a good grade on any easy assignment as she will make sure you don't.
Palos is a demanding professor who expects in-depth knowledge from her students. Her exams and grading are notoriously tough, so staying on top of the material by using tools like unstuck ai is key to success. Not the easiest A, but prepares you well.
Took her Bio 110 honors class. If you're highly motivated to transfer to top schools I highly recommend her, she provides a challenge I am sure will make you grow as a student. The rigor and quality of knowledge she provides are the closest it will get to a UC-like experience for classes surrounding biology at the JUCO level.
Amazing professor, very extensive lectures. Class is hard as shit, you will need to pump 20+ hours a week minimum. Stay on top of reading the textbook, quizzes are harder than the tests. Hardest A I've had to work for, but consequently the most satisfying. She deserves an amazing retirement.
AVOID! She was extremely rude to students. Idk where people are getting "UC-like" from, her course was ridiculous and being at a UC made me realize her class was hard just because, none of the content itself was hard to grasp, she is just difficult and rude. To this day I get angry over how much I worked in this class. God awful terrible professor
