Taught Nazi Germany well, It's a course that requires alot of different point of views which she did. Teaches with a good Historian style. I was alittle bored at times, and the tests are true/false which I didnt like.
Very helpful and organized. Quite knowledgeable about German history. There were a lot of small papers but they are pretty easy. Just two take home tests, which are also pretty basic easy questions. Good class.
Prof. Sanislo is awesome! The class was pretty interesting but what really stands out about her is her willingness to help students. She will take the time to sit down and explain things no matter how long it takes because if you show you care and are interested, she is patient. She really helped me big time with writing a paper. very understanding
Class is boring as she reads off of the powerpoints most of the time. Notes are pretty much useless since her tests are so easy. She is also very picky about grammer and spelling, but she has grammer and spelling mistakes all over her powerpoints. One of the first days of class she mis-spelled "culture" twice.
Liked her a lot. Tests straight from the powerpoint, no suprises. Went in for office hours and was extremely helpful. Great class, knew her subject very well.
Teresa Sanislo is not the most intelligent professor I've ever had, but she's nice and makes the class fairly easy. To clarify, she isn't picky about grammar (notice it's spelled with an A), but you do have to posess some basic English language skills. No worries.
very good teacher. extremely organized. she knew a lot about the subject. very helpful. her class was a pretty good amount of work but I learned more in that class than any other class I've had. if you do the work and take the notes you will do fine in the class
Very easy professor, and the Nazi class was probably one of the easiest in my life. The tests are really simple, and the only thing that is a bummer is the journals that you have to do for basically every class, but like I said EASY.
if you turn everything in on time, you will get an A. the tests are very easy and the papers and homework assignments are pass/fail. sanislo herself is disorganized and often hard to get help from, but at least she has a bunch of TAs. very interesting subject matter and you end up learning a lot.
Worst class I have ever had. Attendance is mandatory and the workload is absolutely obsurd. Teaching style is so boring, I had to slap myself to stay awake. Have fun with this one...
Very good powerpoints, but she is really blonde :/
Horrible. Completely unbearable. Unstructured. Boring. Unfair. Insane amounts of work. If you like these adjectives to describe your class, take this one.
Very VERY bad...
spelling mistakes and typos all over the place in the powerpoints she uses EVERYDAY for class as well as the handouts for the assignments! she has this uncanny ability to ALWAYS make the marker squeaky and painful to listen to. she likes to laugh when she feels like she's losing u but she laughs at inopportune moments. doesnt answer emails either.
Boring class with a ton of busy work. Picks favorites and if you dont talk in class all the time dont expect to get an A.
I had her also for 184 and all you people are just being lazy. Yeah its a lot of busy work but the class is interesting and if you put thought into assigments they do become meaningful. Yeah she has spelling issues but dont we all?? Great professor. Talk to her b/c she is willing to help.
Yes, learning about Nazi Germany sounds like an exciting class! Sadly, this class is just not interesting. All you do is copy 2+ pages of notes off of powerpoints each day and wish someone would save you. The homework consists of like 12? journals that require anywhere from 10 to 50 pages of reading and two pages of writing.
I agree with earlier posts; no matter how much work you put in, if you aren't one of her favorites that talk every day, you won't likely get an A. Talking once every 4-5 classes isn't enough. The class is also not as exciting as you'd think; the last month is interesting, but as for the rest of the course, be prepared to fall asleep.
Dr. Sanislo is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. She goes above and beyond the responsibilities of a professor and will help you and wants you to succeed. Great professor!
Her class has a lot of reading to do and her tests aren't exactly easy, but she is a good teacher that has a lot to say about the subject of Nazi Germany. She is also really easy to approach if you have any questions or concerns. Just make sure you have time to read and do the journals that she assigns.
This class is my biggest college regret. I find the info really interesting but the extreme amount of work for a 3 credit general is rediculous. The 12 papers surpass the work in all of my other courses combined. Did I mention only a B can be attained if one come and participates EVERY class, an A if you do 2 "extra credit" papers. Give me a break.
The busy work is ridiculous and the tests are ridiculously easy. She acts like you don't have any other classes that you have homework for. Her grading system is completely messed up. I have no idea what I am getting in the class even though I have passed all journals and gotten A's on all exams. This professor is ridiculous
I need this class for my major and was hoping that it would provide me with guidance. It was horrible!! She was very unfriendly, rude in her emails, and was so boring and would always repeat the same question after we beat it to death already. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR 288!!! History is my life and it made me sad that she ruined this class. Painful!
Apparantly, Sanislo didn't get the memo that HIST184 is a HISTORY class, not an english class. Be prepared to have her dissect everything you write for mistakes, while she makes plenty of grammatical and spelling errors of her own! Way too much HW for a 100 class, crazy grading policies, BORING lectures! At least the book is interesting...
Oh Sanislo. She is a nice person out of class, however, lots of work, not a big pay off. Recommend if you are really into politics and not WW2.
Sanislo is a really nice and caring professor. There are not many who actually care about how you do, and Sanislo does. Not a hard class, and a lot of fun!
Good material, but professor is scatterbrained. Nice woman, but never finishes her PP's so there is material on tests that was not covered.
useless prof. learned everything from handouts and books. powerpoints useless. i ended up doing other hmwk in class just to pass the time. laughs too much and at inappropiate times. good person but horrible prof. loves germ. hist so won't learn anything except for germ. stuff. will HATE you if skip class w/ unexcused abscence.DONT TAKE CLASS W/ HER
Thought this class would be interesting but turned out to be my least favorite class. Boring. She laughs at everything. Bad in general
Very nice and caring professor. She sometimes takes a while to return emails but genuinely cares about helping and having you do good in her class. Classes are not easy but not overly hard either. She really enjoys the subjects she teaches and that shows in her lectures.
Sanliso is a great person but not a good professor. She's not interesting and there is way too much work for a 3 credit course. Her eight journals are like papers, too much reading, class isn't even interesting. I agree with all of the other posts, her expectations are too high for a 100 level course and she will HATE you if you skip class
This was an online class, and I felt it was appropriately paced and taught. Professor was always quick to respond to discussions, didn't beat around the bush with assignment requirements. Fair grading for essays; explains how to improve. Overall, liked the class and the prof. :)
I took this professor for an online course last summer and loved it. I am in an actual, 3-hour once-a-week class now, this fall, and it's not so hot. Lectures in six words: boring and a waste of time. Only take this professor online if you can help it, because she works better online and not in person.
I enjoyed this class! I suggest taking this class! If you do the readings you will get a good grade. I found her entertaining and helpful. 15% of the class is attendance so you can miss 1-2 and still get an A in that part!
This prof is pretty good. She is very enthusiastic and does a good job a challenging students to think. She is also very helpful and tries her best to make sure that everyone gets the material.
She knows her stuff. Kind of quiet but encourages class discussion and is eager to make sure everyone understands. Readings can be hard for non-history majors so keep up and make time to work through them. Lots of D2L work. Exams are intimidating because of their style but they aren't too hard if you just go to class and pay attention.
She is very passionate about her teaching, but seems a bit scatter-brained. She appears to make light of serious situations, which in some cases is helpful. Her tests are not easy, but not hard either. Don't hesitate to take her.
She really knows what she is talking about and you can tell she loves teaching but I feel that she thinks this is our only class to do work in. Multiple reading assignments, postings in discussion groups which are pass/fail, and roughly a quiz a week. Everything is very interesting but it should be worth more for all the time put in.
Knows what she is talking about but she teaches the class in a horrible way. You read from one of your five books, then take a test online, then do a discussion, get a grade THEN the next day she teaches you about it. So you get graded before she teaches it to you. No use taking notes after you have already been graded. WAY TOO MUCH WORK for 3 cred
If you are interested in the Holocaust... You are better off resurching it by yourself because you will have a better time doing it yourself. This class is about the political aspect of the Nazis... Bad teacher, she tests you before she teaches you the information, notes are therefor useless. More work then a 5 credit class.
She is obviously interested in what she teaches, and she knows what she's talking about, but lectures can get a little dull. I'm not a big fan of her test format, but if you go to the review sessions before exams you will be fine. She is really nice, and approachable.
Professor Sanislo makes learning about the Nazis very understandable. She doesn't force you to memorize dates and names, just overall concepts which is always nice! D2L Quizzes and D2L group conversations and dropboxes are used alot which is cool. Overall she's a good professor, although sometimes her powerpoints aren't always as specific or clear.
Interesting class. I really enjoyed what she taught, and thought she did a fine job teaching it. However, the workload was huge. Lots of reading, online quizzes, discussions online...it was a lot for a general, and sort of deflated my interest in the subject. Also tests are very difficult, but she curved them. An A overall is manageable.
I took her class during her first year at Eau Claire. She was prepared and organized, yet the overall format of the class was very "higher level" for a general. Im not suggesting that she should "dumb" her class down, however the learning it was overload and many of us lost interest.
Sanislo is awesome! Her lectures are really good and it is clear that she is knows a lot about what she is teaching. The discussions are easy if you follow the directions, and the quizzes aren't bad either; just do the reading. Exams can be tricky at times since they are only true/false questions. Highly recommend this class!!
I loved this class. Sanislo has a lot of knowledge on this subject, and will give you a very well-rounded view of Nazi Germany. The discussions and dropboxes may seem like a lot at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's super easy. Definitely reccomend!
awesome class! people claim its a lot of work but lets be real its college! if you go to the lectures and read the assigned chapters you'll do great. i went into office hours after the first exam and ended up getting a 100 on the last two. I skipped class a little too much which affected my grade so dont do that. take it, its awesome class for g.e
She can get annoying after a couple classes. I was in an Honors version of the class and we didn't have any tests, but we have to do a journal every week based on readings and videos. I learned a lot about Nazi history, but wasn't enthusiastic about it at the end of the class. It is a good class to take for FC credit.
She was very willing to help with anything but was very slow to grade and some papers weren't returned. Very knowledgeable and interesting. She is extremely willing to help students.
This class does require a lot of homework. I took it as a M/W/F class and the Friday class period was online so that was nice. Even though the class is a lot of work, it is VERY interesting. I promise you if you do the readings you will LOVE this class.
You may think learning about Nazi, Germany sounds interesting. Before taking this class with Sanislo you should know you will be doing a ton of work outside of class. She has very high expectations. Expect to teach yourself all of the material.
Hybrid Nazi Germany. I hated this course the first half. I was not interested and the work load is quite heavy. A lot of readings, videos, and discussion postings that will test your dedication to getting an A. Tests are true/false. Only midterm and final. By the end of the course I actually feel I know more about Germany government than I do US.
Very interesting class, I learned a lot. But there is a lot of course work. Many readings, videos and what not. Lecture is just power point so relatively boring. She over explains everything which makes things seem more confusing than they are. Also much online discussion which i found annoying
This course was kind of a doozy. Sanislo tends to be pretty vague about what she wants or how she wants things done. Lots and LOTS of reading and papers to do for this course. Not the most enjoyable course I've taken but she is happy to help clarify any questions you have.
Very unclear about expectations. Gives you a grade and then refuses to give you any feedback as to why you got said grade. Basically, she makes it up. Her tests are all subjective. You answer true or false for each question but then must state why, and your answer better be up to her standards.
her class is defiantly worth more than 3 credits. it is a lot of work! you do online discussions every week that take a really long time. the class is pretty easy if you are interested in it and are willing to put in the work. if not don't take it
This class is entirely too much work for a 200 level history. Far too much reading about things that don't pertain to tests or the material. The tests are done by true and false with explanations that have to be exactly what she wants, but the points are barely even glossed over in her "lectures" and are never seen in the readings you have to do.
Really easy, just pay attention in class and do the discussions online. You really don't need to read (unlike her more upper level classes). She is a great professor and I've had her two other times.
I took the hybrid and the amount of reading she expects for the online discussion (which you have up to twice a week) is far too high. lectures are practically useless, anything you learn is self taught. The work required to put in for this class is not worth it. I was interested in the subject before and now i hate it. Avoid this class.
I thought this class would be really interesting but I was poorly mistaken. Talked about the holocaust for a day. Doesn't explain anything clearly and requires you to do all work outside of class and lectures are completely useless but are unfortunately mandatory. Avoid this class at all costs it's not worth taking.
Sanislo really knows her stuff, but sometimes is really unorganized and unclear about expectations. Most of the time there are no rubrics or any comments/justification for certain grades. There was also A LOT OF READING! The class and material was interesting but I wouldn't recommend.
Lectures are very useless. She assigns all of the work to be done in discussion posts but the upside is there is usually no class on Fridays. I would complete the reading and be ready for some tough questions but all of her questions are pretty much "what did you find interesting?" or "what did you learn?". Easy but I was looking for a little more
Teresa is not a good professor. Her lectures are okay, but she assigns too much homework, which made me dislike a topic that I thought I would enjoy. It is not a hard class, just not fun. Plus, she spent the last three weeks talking about modern day issues in America, which had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Nazis and Germany. Don't take her at all!
Sanislo drones on and on lecture after lecture, luckily because of her intense interest in history. The class is easy nonetheless, but not worth the amount of work. I was doing as much homework in this class as I was in all of my other classes and then some. A lot of seemingly busy work, but only 2 tests and a group paper.
This class was partially online for me. Do the discussions, try not to miss those, they are easy points as long as you use a quote. It was a very interesting class to take, I recommend taking it, I would take it again. Only midterm and final for tests and one group paper. You don't have to go to class, but I would recommend going, takes attendance.
Was not a fan. At some points it was a completely unreasonable amount of work for a 200 level 3 credit GE. Assigned over 200 pages of reading one week (easy reading, but still). The assignments are repetitive - she asks the same three questions every time. The class is easy enough if you do the work, but it may be tough to find the will to do so.
She does a good job teaching the subject, but the tests are very difficult. She is a tough grader, and will not tolerate things like poor grammar and spelling.
She is a great teacher and I highly recommend you take any of her classes. Many people say her classes are hard but in reality they are not. She gives you everything you need to get an A. She is definitely a fair grader.
This class was not what I expected. Pretty much only talk about history leading to Holocaust. She only has 2 exams (midterm & final) which are extremely hard all true and false. There is a group paper that is a lot of work, and multiple discussion post a week. Overall, NOT worth all the work she makes you do. I would not take this class again.
If you are taking HIST 284, be prepared to mostly learn about politics. We only spent the last quarter of the class on the actual Holocaust, which was super interesting and eye opening. But the rest of the class is on how the Nazi party rose to power. If you don't like reading and answering questions about what you read, this class is not for you.
This class did have plenty of reading and discussion posts, but ONLY two tests. She did NOT have a group project this semester. This class was very interesting to me, but do NOT expect to work with students in discussion who actually care about the topic! This was disappointing as it made discussion totally boring. LOTS of freshmen who DON'T care!
She pretty nice for the most part. At times it seems like she's talking down to you, but other then that no complaints. Watch out for the group project because it can be a pain. Other then that the material was common sense. Do do anything to disturb the rest of the class, especially in her Nazi & Germany class because of the serious content.
A lot of long discussion post. She expects too much from you for just a 3 credit class.
Sanislo is a nice woman, however not a good professor. Lectures are long and boring and not much material of importance is given. She assigns A LOT of reading and weekly discussion posts that are essentially useless. In lecture she often repeats and sometimes contradicts herself. This is a German politics class, not a WWII history class.
Long boring lectures, and the homework is very difficult and boring. Lots of writing.
This class is pretty easy if you can keep up with all the homework she assigns. Lots of group work but the exams are easy multiple choice tests.
Honestly one of the worst professors I've had here. She takes attendance yet repeats everything from the class before and from the readings. WAY to much for a 3 credit course. She thinks that this class is the only class and half of the things she posts in D2L don't make sense.
She's an easy prof, but make sure you show up to class. Even if you miss one, you miss a huge lecture. Learned that the hard way. Twice. Be prepared to read too. And she makes a lot of spelling mistakes so there's that too.
I took this online over summer. There was a lot of material put into three weeks, and I wasn't expecting to have to put in as much time as I did. But Dr. Sanislo is very willing to answer questions and took the time to type responses to individual discussions, which was nice. She seems to really enjoy what she teaches.
I took this class thinking that it was going to be about the Holocaust but it was more about the Nazi rise to power. Seemed more like a politics class instead of a history class. She also talks very quiet so she is hard to hear and there are multiple assignments due. Her tests are all multiple choice and you only have two.
I enjoyed this class a lot. It was fairly easy if you put in the work. Tests are easy. It is a very interesting class and would for sure recommend to someone who is looking for a history credit.
She's changed the class a lot over the previous years, so many of these reviews are not accurate. She has you do weekly reading assignments, which make it so the tests are super easy. If you show up to class and do the assignments you'll get an A. She does assign a lot of reading for a 200 level class, but it's an interesting class nonetheless.
There was A LOT of homework and reading, and the papers were challenging. However, Dr. Sanislo is very approachable and wants you to succeed. She will schedule extra office hours if she knows people are having trouble, and she also answers emails thoughtfully.
Notes from lectures are very important. She doesn't have a lot written on slides so everything she says is important: write it down. She is pretty repeditive about the important topics. Review sessions before exams are very informative. Do the homework, participate in class and you'll pass.
Yes, she is holds many lectures, but it IS a history course afterall. Prof Sanislo is very passionate and intelligent. I learned so much from this course that I had not previously known. She is also very approachable, so if you have questions ASK, and she will explain it in a way you will better understand. 10/10
Professor was really passionate about what they taught and clearly knew content. Be ready for lots of online discussions which can be very time consuming, but are generally pretty relevant to tests. Graded on midterm, final, and online discussions.
Dr. Sanislo is very passionate about the subject and is super caring. She does assign A LOT of homework so get ready to read and write a lot. The class and materials are super interesting, so it's an awesome LE to take. Tests are easy, and there's only a midterm and a final.
Going to lecture is necessary. If you do not do the homework, you will not pass the class. Exams are ok and not too difficult as long as you study. Extra credit is provided throughout the semester so make sure you get a head start because they take a long time.
Very lecture heavy and lots of reading for discussions. It's a lot of work but as long as you show up for class and do your discussions, you should be fine.
She is really understanding that not everyone is a history major and makes the class so everyone is able to understand the material. There is a lot of written discussions so make sure you are willing to work for your grade!
Way to much work for a 3 credit elective class. Professor Sanislo can come off as inconsiderate at times. She assigns a discussion every week and sometimes even two a week. You get 20 discussions throughout the semester. Some of them have over a hundred pages of reading and she will not give you a heads up in class. I do not recommend.
Ridiculous amount of work for a 3 credit class. I would not suggest taking this class if your other course load is heavy. Didn't think a 3 credit elective was going to take up this much of my time. At least 2-3 hours per week on online discussions and double that if there are two due that week. Do not take this class if you expect to have a life.
Sanislo is enthusiastic about the course itself which helped it to be engaging. She accused me of cheating on multiple occasions and refused to accept some work due to her assumptions. D2L Friday's (no class) but done through discussions get old quickly. They are made up of long videos and many articles.
This class was way too much work for a 3 credit class that is taken as an LE. The course requires you to do several readings or watch videos for the discussion posts. You are teaching yourself almost all the material and then her lectures just summarize all the material you already read for the discussion posts.
Sanislo has 20 discussion posts for the entire semester and there is one do almost every class. Each one has at least 3 readings that go along with them, and usually a video too. She requires attendance for your grade and even if you participate and attend every class you only start off with a B. She is not understanding or helpful. Do. Not. Take.
Lecture style
She is very knowledgeable about history, but she assigns a lot of homework. There are 20 discussions throughout the semester, with many readings for each discussion. They are very time consuming and are due almost every class period. If you are looking to learn a lot about the Holocaust, don't take. We mostly talked about politics.
To much homework and reading for what the class is actually worth. Plus, the title for the class is very misleading. Seriously, unless you love reading all the time and doing a lot of unnecessary long assignments I recommend not taking this class.
I normally do fine with assigned reading, but this class is absurd. You have to read 3 different power-points for one on discussion post each are 40 slides long. Doesn't sound bad? The slides are just pictures then under them she puts notes that are basically full pages you have to read. She also gives out so much homework you can barley keep up.
Lectures are whatever. She whispers into a mic and it is annoying but bearable. However, the amount of homework given in this class is uncanny. This women must have wanted to be an English Major in a past life because she makes you write so much you will think you are in a high level writing class. Worst LE choice ever!
AWFUL. This class is not worth it. Don't take!
To much homework for this level class. Unless you are a real Germany History lover and only want to read 25+ pages on German Politics find a different class.
So you wanted to learn a lot about fun Nazi history huh? HAHAHAHAHHA NOPE -_- get ready to read, read, read (even if you are good at skimming), and read some more. Then when you down reading get ready to type a minimum of 3 pages for homework assignments per week! The only thing I learned about Nazis is that the teacher is one about HW.
Each week you have to do at least one discussion post. It involves at least 4 questions each that are 3 parts. Each question required you to read about 40 pages and watch a 10 minute video. The amount of hw required is a lot and not worth the class. Find a different LE.
In this class you will have 20 very lengthy discussion papers. I'm not opposed to homework, but the amount assigned for this class is not proportional to its level. Additionally, even though this is a Nazis in Germany class we only talked about the holocaust twice about 2 weeks before finals. This class is a joke.
WORST CLASS EVER! Not worth the amount of work, unless you enjoy reading 100 pages for an assignment.
Attendance is apart of your grade. Defying Hitler is a required book but is never used in discussion posts. It is a lot of reading and writing, but the topic is interesting. Only has a midterm and final for tests. Her voice is very monotone and can be hard to focus during lectures.
History 248 is one of my favorite classes I have taken at UWEC. You learn mostly about what circumstances allowed Hitler to come to power. This course is extremely insightful IF you do the readings. This class is reading heavy and discussion posts are essential to passing. If you miss even one it puts you down a letter grade.
You can gain a lot of knowledge in this class, but it is extremely hard to stay motivated because the whole semester you read several pages of PowerPoints and primary sources, write about a 750 word response each week, read your classmates posts and respond to them. I'm not necessarily saying this is bad, but for me this was not a fun class.
This class is wonderful if you want every detail about Nazi Germany. BUT get ready for insane amounts of reading and homework. If you are a VERY motivated person who enjoys learning and wants to know everything on a subject, go for it. If you want to take this just to fill a credit, and aren't interested in a very hefty class DON'T... DO NOT.
Sanislo was the absolute worst teacher for HIST 284. She ignores her students, doesn't offer help, and tosses all of her student's problems to her TA's. When asking Sanislo questions, she talks down to you as if you should already know the answer. If I could rate a 0 on the scale I would. Do NOT take her as a teacher, you will regret it.
I have her online for the Nazi Germany class. She is not good. For a professor, you would think she teaches. But she doesn't teach and has most of her TA's grade the assignments. She has A LOT of assignments, and all the questions have 20 parts to it, so you're whole day is taken up. As a history maj. I recommend not taking her as a prof.
I would never recommend this professor to anyone. Her class is ridiculously hard considering it is 200 level. She offers no feedback and the discussions are worth half a letter grade each. This class stressed me out more than my other five 400 level classes combined. This was a terrible experience honestly. This class took up all of my time.
She has never made a lecture video or anything more interactive. She just posts long articles every week for you to read and has you write about them. It does not help you learn the material or concepts at all and it is just a lot of busywork. It could be an interesting subject/class but not the way she does it.
Does not actually teach her own material.
its a lot of work but there are no lectures and there is only a midterm and a final for the class tests. You can think of the weekly assignments that take about 3-4 hours to do as the lecture. I personally liked it because I was not graded on test-taking skills, but rather work. The HW is P/F and she rarely fails you so as long as u do it ull get A
Literally the most work I've ever had in a class. Zero teaching by the professor and the entirety of the class is reading an insane amount of material and answering questions about it for a couple of hours, then go into the discussion and respond to your classmates for an hour or 2. The subject could be interesting but not in the way its "taught".
You will be forced to read entire textbooks in less than a week and expected to do a presentation on them worth 10-15 percent of your grade on Friday. You will do homework on the weekends. You will not learn anything from her lectures.
Overall a ton of coursework and very repetitive. Dr Sanislo is very hands off and lets you teach yourself the subject. Only complaint I really have is she assigned a massive project due the week of thanksgiving break. Not cool.
Asynchronous online class with weekly assignments and discussions about the assignments. Have to write 3-7 paragraphs for these assignments but you only have two exams. Both are open book and online so tests are very easy.
Lots of discussion posts which she makes it seem like will make up your entire grade, but the two exams are important too. The discussion posts are long, but are more based on if you do them on time, and quote the articles, than based on how much effort you give.
Tons of discussion posts and readings. The lectures literally just repeat what you had to read and the powerpoints just have main points and you have to try to keep up your own notes from her speaking. Only good thing was that we didnt have in person class on friday
Sanislo's lectures are pretty non-informative. Most of the information that you will learn in this class comes from the large amount of reading and discussions that make up 50% of your grade. This class was a stressful one even for an A+ student. That being said if you come to class and do the reading you will have no issue on the midterm.
Weekly discussions lowkey sucked. Professor not involved with her students and never had in person office hours.
Dr Sanislo makes it clear her student teaching helpers do most of her paid job for her like grading and helping students outside of class. Her lectures can be missed since she reads off a screen and tests are fairly easy as long as you study. She is big on Canvas fridays yet doesn't give good feedback on discussions
1-2 discussions per week, heavy of readings and movies needed to understand majority of the course. Powerpoints give you main points and you will have to listen to her lecture to understand definitions and meanings. She is a very nice person and is very flexible on turning canvas assignments in on time. Discussions are graded off completion.
Her lectures are very boring and aren't very helpful for the homework. There is a lot of homework and for each assignment you will need to read a lot and basically write a full paper. Her student teachers do the majority of her job including grade the assignments which are pass/fail. If you can help it don't take her.
Dr. Sanislo is both a wonderful professor and a wonderful person. In her lectures, you can see she is an expert on and cares about the content she teaches. She treats all students with respect, and is more than willing to meet outside of class for help or questions. She does use a textbook for this course, but it is manageable and interesting.
Professor Sanislo is a gem in the history department. This class delves into Modern German history, and the content was presented in an accessible but challenging way, as much of this isn't taught in high school. It's clear that Prof Sanislo cares about her students, and she does a wonderful job with establishing relevancy with the content.
Lots of reading and writing, but the content was interesting and not very difficult. Good grader and gave great feedback. Would take her again.
I personally really liked Dr. Sanislo she is super sweet and very knowledgeable in her area of expertise, but she has the most boring lectures that its hard to stay awake during and she makes the information boring even if its interesting. SO SO MUCH READING and only a midterm and final for exams. Big assignments weekly that are a lot of work
The lectures were extremely boring and didn't necessarily correlate with the assignments and weekly discussions we were completing. However, you could tell she knows what she's talking about and the discussions were very to the point and easy to complete. Only 2 exams (the midterm and final) which were both extremely simple.
Professor Sanislo had good lectures but gave so much work. Be prepared to do lots of reading and write a lot.
She is nice and allows a lot of wiggle room with assignments, accepts late work, etc. She is so boring though and she will spend forever talking about one thing instead of moving on. Her lectures are just very bland. She also is not very canvas savvy and a lot of the time assignments are confusing. Get ready to write a TON...
The lectures are okay, and she keeps it pretty interesting. However, the work outside of class can get a little heavy with weekly discussions (sometimes 2) that sometimes require up to 100 pages of reading. After a while, the discussions get a bit tedious but other than that I recommend the course and Dr. Sanislo!
Super sweet lady and you can tell she knows what shes talking about. The homework isnt that bad, theres a LOT of reading assigned but she tells you to skim it 90% of the time. its usually 1/2 assignments per week where u post it and then respond to others. Didnt need to study for the tests they were so easy, just go to class and ur fine.
There was 2+ hours of homework every single day. I fell behind and she messaged me every day "You missed discussion three", "You missed discussion four". I was very afraid to talk to her about it. Her grammar is also horrific, she can't spell to save her life. Couldn't recommend this course less, good luck, seriously, you'll need it.
Professor Sanislo is great! This class was a lot of work, but I can tell she is passionate and excited about Central Europe and German history. She is also so caring and very approachable!
She was a very nice woman but her lectures were often very boring, and there was SO MUCH HOMEWORK, like we're talking a few hours per assignment, but overall the course was interesting and the homework wasn't difficult, just very time consuming.
She is very monotoned so if history bores you, but you have to take it for credit good luck. She has you answer 5 questions every Friday and the answers have to be at least 5 sentences long for full credit, and you have to copy and paste the same thing into your discussion group and reply to two people along with that. You'll rarely get an A.
If you just need to fill the requirement for your degree, DONT TAKE THE CLASS. Everything about the class is dumb, a discussion post every week, sometimes two a week. 5-6 sentences per question and there is 4-5 questions in each module. The class in pointless, her lectures are are the most boring things, she does not allow computers or phones out.
Avoid taking this class if you already have an intense workload. She requires hours and hours of reading every week and most weeks there are two discussion posts due. The exams are definitely easier since she has you do so much work on discussions. I learned everything from the discussion material, not from her lectures.
I took her online Nazis and Germany class as a "easy course", its not easy. Every week you have to do 1 - 2 discussions that take roughly 2-4 hours each because of the amount of material you need to read. And all the readings are primary sources making the reading not only long, but hard and boring. The workload made me hate a class I usually like.
Class material is very interesting & the professor is clearly very knowledgable & passionate. 1-2 discussions post due per week, 5 paragraphs with multiple sources needed. Graded on a pass/ fail basis so if you miss a source or citation you don't get credit. Spent more time on this class than any other. I wrote 45 pages single space in 1 semester
I transferred into this class about a week into the semester and she was very willing to help me catch up. She met with me on zoom many times to understand the materials. She is very knowledgeable and gives very long explanations that sometimes end up confusing. It is a time-consuming class with a lot of readings, videos and in-depth discussions.
Attendance was 5% , but there are 1-2 assignments a week where you are basically writing 1-2 page papers. TONS of reading Quality of the work doesn't matter as much as just doing it, 45% of the grade are in these assignments which you just need to submit with citations and respond to two students. Its pass or fail, no grade for papers.
I don't know how you can make such an interesting topic so painful and boring, but she found a way.
Probably the worst professor I've had here yet. Me and a few of my group members have had discussions/papers rejected due to turnitin detecting our closers as AI, anything above 10% detected is an automatic fail for that assignment. You need to write at a very low level to bypass this. 1-2 papers a week that account for 45% the grade.
Seemed like a great and caring professor but assigned very material dense work. I liked learning about the material but it felt like a lot which made it less fun to learn about. I wouldn't say shy away from this class as a Freshman but if you are already taking higher material/credit courses do not take this at the same time.
A lot of homework, but still very interesting. For some reason no one in my class would participate which made it really boring but I found the lectures and content engaging. Maybe I'm just a nerd but I think it was a good class and Sanislo is decent professor.
Pass fail on weekly discussions, but it's manageable once u figure it out. She's very passionate about her field. Lectures can feel long. Easy exams (only 2)
