She knows her stuff. Go to class and read the chapters assigned and you should do alright. Class is exciting, she never gets boring and always asks to make sure you understand what she is talking about.
I was dreading microbiology this semester, and this is actually turning out to be such a fun class. If she was teaching all classes in the biology department I would consider wanting to major in Biology. Just ask questions and talk to her. Awesome teacher!
She tried to simplify the course as much as possible. Funny, fair and cares about the students. Take her for lecture and lab if possible.
Dr. Shors is an energetic and understanding professor. She is willing to help students with questions and she is very easy to learn from. I definitely recommend taking her Biology 233 class.
Great personality, and a good teacher! Cares about the students. Always available. Takes LEARNING seriously!
Teached only by giving out notes. Super fast through class. Like taking a History of Molecular Biology...avoid.
Best professor ever. The exams are based off of lecture notes. Go to class to get a good grade.
She is a very funny energetic professor, which makes paying attention a lot easier. She is very helpful when you need help. Take her for lab too if possible, she gets the lab done within an hour usually.
Not extremely interesting in lecturing but does show enthusiasm
If you go to lecture the class is really easy. Almost all of the questions on the exams are straight from the lecture notes. Very low textbook usage and she doesnt make you learn unnecessary information
Dr. Shors is about as straightforward as you can get when it comes to professors. She basically gives you the answers to the exams in her lectures for the exams. She is energetic and knows what she is talking about (she has her very own book!) She is very helpful when you need a question answered.
GREAT PROFESSOR! Teri is one of the nicest people I have ever met. She is VERY clear and straight forward with lecture and tests. There are no "trick" question on her tests and are pretty easy. Would recommend to anyone to take her class!
she is such a nice lady, I love going to her class, she makes microbes interesting, I suggest taking her, and use the podcasts
Fantastic teacher. A little off the wall, but make class fun and interesting. Best professor I've had.
The best professor ever. There were four exams, one was cumulative but it was easy. Very fun class. She offered some extra credit which was nice. There were also three other assignments that were offered. Good Class to take!
Awesome teacher, the kind that reinspires you when some classes in your major get boring, enthusiasm mixed with real life knowledge is what you'll get in shor's virology...
Very friendly professor, easy lecture component, stresses how important lab is which also seems to be an easy component. Seems to skip alot of information throughout the text and teaches what she feels is important. Overall easy class
Dr. Shors is an EXCELLENT professor. If you can, take her for both lab and lec. Her tests are strictly from her lect and she is WONDERFUL! If you can, definitely take her...
A great professor, her lecture are very easy to understand.
Terrible class. Didn't learn anything. Waste of money. Relies on her own bad textbook and speeds through lecture you cant keep up. Could have learned more from a different textbook on my own
Excellent Professor! She really cares about her students understading the material and doing well. Keeps class interesting with funny cartoons and our class "mascot" was a talking toilet. Definitely take her if you can!!
Dr Shors is the worst professor I have had to date. She makes getting a PhD look like a high school diploma. I have learned more from the videos she provides than from her actual lecture, and she doesnt pronounce scientific words right. If you looking for an easy A then this is your class but if you want to learn something pick a different class.
i think teri shors is awesome despite what other says, shes always in a good mood, her exams are straight forward because everyone knows that everybody hates exams. easy class if you put the work in, i love t. shors and am hoping to take another one of her classes at uw-o!
She is an excellent teacher and her tests are very straightforward. Go to class, take notes, and you will get an A.
I found that Dr. Shors was a very helpful and straight forward professor. However, I found that many traditional students have the tendency to not ask questions or advice from their professors and unfortunately blame them for receiving a poor grade. Dr. Shors has inspired me and opened my mind to critical thinking and the scientific method.
I loved this class. Most of the students in our class are nursing majors so she really geared the lectures to topics relevant to us. She also adds interesting videos and current events pertaining to what she is lecturing. She is straightforward about what we will be tested on, and always willing to help or answer questions.
Dr. Shors is amazing! Her class inspires you to learn beyond what you can imagine and laugh along the way. I am a nursing student and can not begin to express how beneficial this class has been in advancing my knowledge, grades and overall education in classes I have encountered throughout the nursing program. Dr. Shors keeps the class fresh and
Microbiology may not seem interesting may not seem enjoyable to some, Dr. Shors does a great job of making it fun even if your not interested. She takes all her students in mind and not just nurses. As far as the material, she tells you what to focus on and does not try to trick you on the tests, which is nice.
Dr. Shors is a great professor. She is clear about expectations and helps you work towards them. Not only does she do a fantastic job teaching, but she is also very friendly and personable. My FAVORITE professor.
Best. Teacher. Ever. I had her for Microbio 233 lab and it was my favorite class. She is hilarious, very fair grader, tells you exactly what to expect and what she wants. I also learned a lot! No doubt in my mind I would take her again.
She uses several ways to learn and she really makes the class fun. The different teaching methods really help you to remember/ learn the material. If you come to class and watch the podcasts you will do very well! LOVED HER!
Awesome professor! Puts exam grades up same day as test! Very helpful and tells you everything you need to know for exams. Keeps you up-to-date with current events related to microbiology. Many different ways to learn. AWESOME LADY!!!
Favorite bio professor! She makes it easy for non-microbiology majors to understand the subject matter. Easy exams if you take a few hours to study. Take her if you have the chance!
Dr. Shors was by far my favorite professor of the semester. She not only has many different ways to help you learn, but knows you to get you interested in the subject. Would highly recommend taking her class :)
Awesome Professor! Really sparked my interest into the field of microbiology by using real world applications instead of just textbook material. Uses a variety of teaching methods to break up class time. If you don't take SHORS than your missing out!!
Had her for micro lab, literally my favorite teacher ever. Super approachable, makes everything fun. Great great teacher nothing bad to say
Dr. Shors does a great job at relating microbiology to current events. However, when it comes to giving any extra credit or awarding points back for her incorrect answer key, she is lacking. Also very slow with grade updates to D2L. I would definitely recommend reading the boxes in the chapters and studying EARLY for the lab final exam.
Dr.Shors is an easy professor. Her lectures were not arranged and she didn't use class periods effectively. However, she exposed students to new diseases and developments in the field of medicine. Oh, study for the lab final; it's the hardest exam you'll take in that class! Overall, I liked having her as a professor!
I guess I didn't like her as much as others. She is one of the more rude professors I have had at UWO. She yells at students for no reason and does NOT like when u talk in her lecture. She throws random stuff at you on the exams so be prepared. Half the exam is stuff she makes you readwatch out of class. So unorganized. I did NOT like her at ALL.
Her exams are moderately difficult. She wastes a lot of lecture time, and I feel like I didn't learn anything. She is very random and gets off task easily.
This class will be easy as long as your study for the exams and quizzes. Lab is important and will make or break your final grade. Go to all of the extra credit opportunities given... it will help you at the end! If she says something will be on a test, it will be on there.
Very unique style. Tells you what will be on exams. Know bacteria names.
Learned very little in this class. She wastes time by talking about random issues and shows random youtube videos. Tells you to ask questions but when you ask them she makes you feel dumb. Rude to students. The good thing is she tells you what will be on exam, so listen closely in lecture.
Shors can be rude to some students and will call students out in the middle of class if they leave to go to the bathroom. She post all the podcasts but then complains when people don't go to class. The exams are pretty easy as she tells you exactly what is going to be on them plus a few curveballs. She does not use class time well at all.
I did not feel that Shors "wasted" class time. She tried to make class entertaining and relate the lecture to current issues. If she says something will be on the exam, it really will. She tells you prior to exams to look over the blue boxes in the book and she will emphasize certain figures. Make an effort to talk to her; she is kind and helpful.
Dr. Shors is not a good professor, but she is the only one that teaches Micro. Class is almost always a waste of time, sometimes lasting no more than six minutes. She does give extra credit, though, on low attendance day. She also points out things that will for sure be on the exams. I would not recommend her for lab.
Dr. Shors is a wonderful professor. You will have to work for your grade, but she literally tells you what concepts she wants you to know for exams. She did podcast her lectures, which was nice when you could not make it to class and to review before an exam. She gave out extra credit on low attendance days. The class is not going to be an easy A.
Shors is an interesting professor to say the least. Will waste a lot of class time with her random tangents and funny videos. She likes to call people out in class for sneezing or coughing or leaving to go to the bathroom. Overall, her tests are super easy as she tells you exactly what is going to be on them!
Lecture is often a waste of time: typically lasts only half the time. She goes through slides and picks and chooses which you should know, often getting rid of more than half of the original power-point. She constantly interrupts class because "someone is talking" although there hardly ever is. Continuously contradicts herself and is not clear.
I would never take Shors again. She can be funny but she is not a good professor. She wastes TONS of class time. She will put a 50 something paged note packets for you to print off for lecture notes but will skip over half of them (EVERY TIME). She is rude, likes to accuse people of cheating on exams. Her grading is super inconsistent in lab.
Dr. Shors is a great professor to take if you want an easy A! Her exams are very easy and she tells you what you need to know for them. Lectures typically do not last the full hour, she wastes a lot of time talking and showing funny videos. Her lectures are podcasted & attendance is not required.
lol ok, so yeah her class is super easy. I fair and square earned a B+/A- in her class last semester. However she gave me a B- as my overall grade because I was "In the lower 25% of the class". So even though you may think that you're getting a good grade in her class, she'll round you down without telling you at the end of semester.
She preaches about being on time for lecture and lab, when she's late herself. Gives lame excuses too. Wastes time going on tangents and irreverent videos. Don't know why she's even a professor when she doesn't know what she's doing or how to operate technology.
T. Shors is hilarious. As a teacher she is very unorthodox, but her methods of teaching are great. Her exams are pretty straight forward and easy (if you study a bit). Lab with her is also very easy!
Dr. Shors was a wonderful professor. She does go on tangents once in a while, but she's quite funny. She made it easy to get up for 8am lectures. I had a lot of fun in this class and was very interested in this topic too. I recommend printing out the slides because she does go through them fast, and she gives you all the info you need.
The class is a very simple class. If you print out the power point slides you can easily highlight the important parts that she tells you to know. She goes through the information very FAST, so be ready to skip a lot of information. Tests are straightforward and lab is easy. She goes on a lot of tangents and doesn't know how to use technology.
This is an easy A class if you want it to be. She tells you everything that is going to be on the exams. So GO TO LECTURE! yes she will go on tangents and watch stupid videos, but some of them will be on the exams. Lab can be pretty easy. She will unnecessarily interrupt class. She usually podcasts but honestly it is better to go to class.
T Shors is a good professor but the class is incredibly easy and she doesn't always use lecture time well. But, she will tell you exactly what is on the test so go to lecture.
At first I thought she was laid back and hilarious but she is more delusional than purposefully funny. We watch videos half of the lectures and are expected to know every detail for the exams. She has in the past put trick questions on Lab quizzes and exams and seems more unorganized than the students. Hard to study for, terrible lab professor.
Professor Shors is a good Professor but might not care about this class so much because she knows its a pre-req. Every Friday we basically watch videos and we always get let out early. Tests are based on what she says in lecture so go. Also print out lectures on D2L as she goes through it fast and just highlight whats important. Easy A class.
T. Shors is an interesting professor to say the least. The exams and assignments are easy themselves, but the class is made artificially harder by requiring a 96% for an A. She did curve our class, however. She is probably the funniest lecturer I've ever had when she's not showing videos (she does this often). She does tell you what is on exams.
Professor Shors was very quirky. Don't get me wrong, she was very funny, but sometimes she was hard to follow. Sometimes she said she wouldn't test on a certain topic, but we found related questions on the exam. Her lectures were very repetitive. Lab was kind of a mess, but it was very fun!
We watched the same 30-min video twice (barely related to virology). I don't think she ever realized. If you want to spend your tuition $ on that, go right ahead! Take 315 if you want an easy class; do not take 315 if you want an understanding of virology beyond random factoids or a professor who understands the basics of her field.
Teri is a funny lady. She is very out there and weird but you will grow to love her. Lectures are never the full hour. She will tell you exactly what to expect on the test. Very video heavy class, which I personally didn't love. A lot of opportunities for extra credit. Study at least a couple days before tests and you will do well. Easy final.
A great professor. She is engaging, knowledgeable and funny. Yes she quirky, but spend 5-10 minutes after a class chatting with her and you quickly understand her passion for he subject area. It was a real treat to have the 200 level class taught by the same prof that teaches the 400 level class. Had her twice, enjoyed and informed both times.
Shors is a great professor and lab instructor. Sometimes going to lecture was a waste of time, especially towards the end of the semester. Lectures would be 8-10 minutes long so if you just look at the mini reviews she posts on D2L, don't worry about going to class. Tests are easy but make sure you read the case studies and boxes in each chapter.
She is by far the best professor that I have ever had at UW Oshkosh. She cares so much and out of a class of over 200 in Bio 233, she got to know me personally in lab, and always made sure that I knew that I was doing a good job. I ended up taking Bio 315 and loved it even more. She is so passionate about Microbiology and her field of study! 10/10
Teri is a great professor for this course, she makes it easy for students to understand the material, and will always let you know what will be on the exam, and will even tell you exam questions. Textbook is necessary, make sure to read everything she tells you to because it will be on the exam. Easy A if you study a little, love her!
Teri is straight up delusional. I can't believe I had to pay for this pointless class. She almost always finished class early & all we did was watch videos. She has no idea how to use the computer. She also throw cough drop bags into the lecture pit. She yells at you if you cough and will call you out if you speak to your neighbor & make a scene.
Amazing professor who really cares about her students doing well. She gives extra credit that is like "go pick up garbage for earth day get 20 points". Gives hints to exam questions during lectures. Ask for study guides and you'll probably get them because they're SUPER helpful. Lectures can have a mess of information though.
Teri is a very interesting woman, but makes the class extremely easy for you to earn an A. Just do the study guides she gives before exams, read case studies and boxes, and study a little and you'll be set. Also has online labs, lab quizzes, discussions, and extra credit opportunities. COVID heavy which was annoying, but overall very easy class.
Dr. Shors was a great instructor! She was very helpful. She emailed back pretty quick, less than 24 hours. We watched a lot of videos in class, that pertained to the lecture content. Textbook is required! A lot of reading! Great instructor!
Dr. Shor's class is fairly easy, but she is out there. Her information was disorganized and some days she would go on rants about random things. Her tests are very specific and she expects you to know every little thing. She also has tons of videos and readings that she puts on the test that are necessary to watch outside of class. Don't recommend.
Teri Shors is undoubtedly the most unprofessional professor I have ever worked with. She constantly complains to her students about other students not coming to her classes. She is rude, accuses students of lying and cheating, and belittles students for asking questions over email instead of in class. I dread any form of communication with her.
Dr Shors is a very "out there" professor which is entertaining but sometimes frustrating. Thankfully her class is the easiest science class I've ever taken because her lectures tell you exactly what will be on the exams which are online. It's pretty hard to not do well in her class because she also offers extra credit and lab is just free points.
Teri is a pretty chill prof but tends to go off on random topics during class as well as share videos on Friday that tend to have no meaning to the course at all. Tests are online and so are lab quizzes. If you find microbiology interesting to listen to, then Teri is a good fit.
This professor is very easy. All tests and quizzes are online, she gives out study guides, and lots of free extra credit during Halloween if you dress up. Labs take no more than 20min with her. It's either you get 50 points on the lab for showing up or 0. You must have the textbook in order to read the case studies for the test
Dr. Shors is an interesting teacher, to say the least. Majority of the time she doesn't understand technology, but this semester she was teaching more classes. The lab is amazing, loved it, and almost always got out early. She doesn't post lectures online so come to class. She also sometimes releases early for lectures also.
Professor Shors is quite a character but an amazing teacher. She really knows what she is talking about and it is clear that she is well educated about what she teaches. Technology is not her strong suit and she is an eccentric person, but overall I really liked her, learned a lot, and would take her again.
The professor was great, lectures with slideshows, and gives weekly homework online. Labs are easy and she goes through everything with you. Gives out study guides only if most of the people are there in class. You won't pass unless you study and go to class. Lots of material you can easily study and pass with a great grade.
Fantastic. Go lecture and read the book- she gives study guide outlines, will tell you what's on the test if it comes up during lecture, and has a fantastic personality. Weekly online lab and in-person labs are simple and quick. Funny hats in every lab video! Attend lectures frequently, study twice a week, fill out study guides and you're golden.
Unorganized and unprofessional. Felt like I was in a middle school class the entire time. Skips over slides and either doesn't elaborate about the slides enough or elaborates about a certain slide way too much... Also states that she won't enforce a no-electronics rule, but complains anytime she sees one? Too hard to follow.
Super easy grader, lab was done after 8 weeks. Such easy work load and exams and assignments are all online which are also very easy.
