This is Professor Maienbrook's first year at Purdue. Overall, she's a great professor, I felt I learned a lot in this class. Prepare to set aside a couple of hours for HW, they do take a while but are helpful when it comes to exam time. While attendance is not required, go to class! There is a lot of material that needs to be memorized and used.
This class is supposed to be easy, this professor made us feel like we should be professionals in accounting before taking her class. There are hotseats every Friday, do not skip class. She does not provide any study guides for exams.
I thought Professor Maienbrook's class was pretty straightforward and reasonable. If you do the homework, you should be able to score highly on the exams. She also answers all questions and it is not hard to get help or feedback. MGMT 200's content can be hard, but I don't think the class could have been taught much better.
Prof. Maienbrook is generally a very good professor. She makes the course content clear and answers questions very understandably. This course contains a lot of information, so don't simply trust the title "intro." But Maienbrook does make things well organized. She also gives somewhat generous curves for the exams and even cutoffs.
very good lecturer. posts many resources, helps with homework, posts all powerpoint slides WITH notes (aka everything she says), so attendance wasn't necessary except for hotseat days (usually friday). Homeworks were pretty time consuming but doable. Easy class and straight forward exams.
Terrible monotone professor. I hated having to go to class to get clicker points. She just stands up front and reads the slides. So boring I lost interest after just a few class sessions. I tried to get help from her outside of class but she was "out of town". Not going to take any more accounting classes - avoid this prof at all costs !
Took class as first sent sophomore and Professors first year at Purdue. Theres a bit of hwk that takes a long time to do but if you just submit the hwk and get the answers and then take it again itll cut down many hours for you. Shell normally do hotseats on a certain day. Tests are MC and shell give EC sometimes. Memorize smart books 4 tests.
This class sucks, no questions asked. As a professor she does her best and is very nice to talk to. I think the work required for this class is a lot more than a 3 credit course. You have reading assignments due every wednesday and homework due on Sunday. This may seem nothing but as the semester picks up, this is a lot. Nice Prof, Terrible Class.
The financial accounting you learn in this class is mostly just memorization. The homework really isn't hard, but can take some time (3-4 hours most weeks). She's fairly available on Piazza and definitely does her best to help students learn. Solid choice for 200.
If you're not a Krannert student this class is ridiculously easy. The amount of work required to recieve a good grade is nowhere near that of engineering, math, and stats classes. Take this course if you want an easy A or are interested in accounting. If you're an acturial science major, you can pass this class without ever watching a lecture :)
Love Professor Mainebrook! She explains things really clearly in her lectures so you dont really need to read the textbook. She is always available for help when I needed it. Also gave out extra credit for the exams which were super helpful. Easy to work with so take MGMT 200 with her if you can.
A lot of students complain about how long HW takes but you can very easily speed through the smartbook assignments and submit blank HW's to get answers the first time - I usually spent an hour doing work outside class per week when other students spent 3-5. Stupid easy class, but Maienbrook is still helpful if needed. Nice engineering elective.
Prof Maienbrook is a great professor. Her syllabus and online content is very clear. She gives extra credit for tests AND curves all tests if the average is below 75. Homework is easy as long as you take the time to learn the material. Very nice to students and responds to emails/piazza very quickly.
Terra is knowledgeable in what she teaches. She is an accountant after all! However, she doesn't make her own slides, understandably once you see the content, but it's quite a lot. So much information packed into each slide. Hard to keep up as it has to be "go go go." The whole class was based on debits and credits. KNOW IT, OR YOU'LL GET AN F!
She knows what she's talking about and teaches it clearly. There is a lot of homework, but it can be achieved in a few hours. She's an accountant, so she understands the material outside of the book. Always answered questions in and out of class and tried her best to help us understand topics that non-MGMT majors felt welcomed
Mrs. Maienbrook is amazing. She teaches her class really well and although the homework can sometimes seem like too much, it helps you prepare for your exams. Exams are weighted heavily, so do not screw up on exams. She does have a sense of humor sometimes which I love. She knows what she is talking about and is always open to questions.
An awesome professor but it is accounting, therefore, it is not fun at all and is rather confusing at times. Lots of homework but isn't to hard, tests are where they get you.
Amazing accounting class! Professor Maienbrook gives good lectures and is approachable outside of class. We use McGraw hill for all of our assignments, and its very easy to navigate. Homework consists of reviews, and appliance questions.
Prof. Maienbrook is a kind, well-organized instructor who gave clear lectures and is always accessible outside of class. This class is achievable, but it required me to work outside of class to complete weekly reviews and homework assignments. The exams are not cumulative, but are still pretty detailed on the chapters that they cover.
Prof. Maienbrook is a really solid lecturer. I will say, accounting in general is hard to understand. Theres so many ins and outs, its all very complicated. She explains it in a way that is more simplistic, and a lot can be said about her lectures. Overall, she is very accessible and answers many questions through Piazza.
Terra was a great professor that had clear-cut lectures and was forward about what was expected in her course. She was available and ready for assistance when needed. Great choice.
I like her homework setup but is not very accommodating to her students. I worked while taking her class and was scheduled a work shift on a night we had an exam. I reached out to her a week before the exam and she denied me another test time. I find this extremely unaccommodating considering a lot of students have to work while attending school.
Honestly a great professor. Prof Maienbrook is a lovely professor and she seems to genuinely care about her students. There are 2 assignments a week which weigh heavily on your grade, but it is very easy to get 100% on these assignments. This means its okay if you do poorly on tests, you will still do well in the class! 100% would recommend.
She cares about the subject! I believe she did a great job, even with a lecture setting. Just be sure to catch up on what you don't understand in the textbook.
I really enjoyed this class. Attendance is only mandatory for Hot Seat questions on Fridays. I would definitely be prepared to put some time into this class at least at the beginning of the semester. There are two homework assignments due each week(one on Wednesdays and one on Sundays). They're time consuming but rewarding. Piazza saved me.
Prof. Maienbrook is a solid instructor. The lectures could get a little boring, but if you show up to class, and do the homework this class is an easy A. The tests are very easy and to go along with this there are heavily weighted homework's that are free 100's.
Maienbrook is an excellent instructor and has been teaching this material for a long time. She does an excellent job of formatting her class. You should give 100% on all homework as there are unlimited attempts, and the rest of the class (60%) is 3 multiple choice exams. She also gives out a fair amount of extra credit before exams. Excellent class
Very good lecturer. Offers extra credit for the exams in the class. Uses hotseat which is helpful to study for each exam.
Best part about this class is that if you read the textbook and do the homework, you can get an A+ without attending any of the lectures on Monday or Wednesday, just the one on Friday for the attendance credit. Plenty of opportunities of extra credit + a pretty generous curve on all exams (at least for my semester)!
Very easy course. Lectures mostly uninteresting but required by taking hotseat quizzes for points most on every friday. You can succeed solely by reading the highlighted parts in the book. Very kinda prof too.
Professor Maienbrook is a fair instructor. She tends to give extra credit which is very nice. She also uses a platform called Piazza which you should take advantage of. It is very helpful. Personally, I just don't like accounting, but Professor Maienbrook is a good instructor who seems like she really cares about her students.
All in all, chill teacher, but homework will take a long time and exams are based heavily on lecture content. If you slack the first 3 chapters, you won't understand the rest of the content because it's all tied in together. Attendance isn't mandatory, but will have HotSeat questions/points to make sure you are in class.
She is pretty fair, but sometimes she can run through things too fast. I also asked questions on piazza and never received a reply back. The reason why I chose test heavy is because, although we don't take exams a lot, the exams are weighed a lot more than the homework and review. Good luck!
you don't need to go to class, but you do need credit for being there (there are online check ins that count for participation grade) The homework are challenging but become easier with time and practice. exams will be the difference from a B and an A if you put in minimal effort
Professor Maienbrook has clear grading criteria. Students can easily earn full points on homework and smartbook reviews. There are a few extra credit opportunities for exams via Hotseat. However, most Hotseat Questions are for participation credit, which is worth 5% of your grade.
Had a 7:30 am lecture so I never went, which made the hot seat annoying AF. I did go to an afternoon lecture tho. The class wasn't hard and tests aren't that bad, I would recommend others pay more attention than I. She is a pretty alright prof tho, pretty accessible and is a good lecturer.
She's a good professor!
Fantastic class, Professor Mainebrook is a great lecturer. Explains concepts well and has no problem answering questions outside of class. This class structure is set up in a way that it is very easy to get a good grade in if you do the bare minimum amount of work and understanding of the material. The exams are also curved VERY well.
Very understanding and easy to understand. Accounting lectures aren't always the most exciting but the way she explained and taught stuff made it very easy to understand.
She is an amazing professor. Homework's can be tough but get easier, plus she uses piazza. Exams are difficult and definitely need to be studied for. Usually does hot seat on friday's so those are really the only days you NEED to come, but still go. Overall the class is very well laid out and I never had to question when anything was due.
Professor Maienbrook knows her stuff. She's able to break down the large topics into comprehensive pieces. Lots of outside resources for extra help. Only complaint about this course is that the lecture recordings are not uploaded in a timely fashion, they often are uploaded much later than 1-2 days after lecture, which is what I would expect.
Professor Maienbrook is a good professor overall. The class itself isnt super interesting, she doesnt make it super fun. Gets through the material kind of quick. She uses hot seat every Friday mostly and sometimes other days for participation points. She also gives extra credit during review day before the exam which is very nice! Lots of busy hw
Professor Maienbrook cares about her students doing well and will make reasonable accommodations when it comes to exams. The hw and reviews were time consuming but have unlimited attempts so are basically guaranteed A's. The exams are like the exam review problems she links in Brightspace. She generously curves exams and has extra credit in class.
Overall pretty good, her assignments are due at the same time every week. However she uses Hotseat randomly so you have to be in class all the time and if you get an 8:30 its going to be challenging. Tests are fairly easy if you study. The lectures are pretty much all you need to get through the class and the textbook is pretty much optional.
Maienbrook is one of my favorite professors I've had. She offers extra credit and curves exams. Exams are weighted pretty heavily, but she provides resources like past exams, which are similar to the actual exams. The class is very structured, 1 assignment due every Wednesday and Sunday. Hotseat on Friday for participation. Definitely recommend!
Terra is great. She makes accounting simple for everyone. Tests are fair, homework is a little long but never awful (piazza helped me a lot). She is a super nice person and is always willing to help. Usually does hotseat on Friday. She is very generous with extra credit on exams so go to the in class review. Overall highly recommend.
Nicest professor. Lectures are straightforward and easy to follow. The homework can be quite hard and annoying but using piazza and office hours will help a lot. Class can be somewhat difficult to students new to accounting like myself. Its just different rather than hard.
Maienbrook read from slides which I found dull, but the content was interesting. The homework goes into way more detail than the exams ever do, but it makes the exams much easier. She also gives generous EC for the exams, I did the bare minimum for this class and easily got an A.
Professor Maienbrook was a great teacher to have for my very first accounting class here at Purdue! As long as you stay on track with completing the reviews and homeworks, and study for the exams, you will be good to go. Maienbrook can sometimes be on the boring side, just reading off of slides, but she is available for extra help.
The content was not very interesting to me personally as an engineering major.
Maienbrook is a great lecturer and covers all the necessary material on easy-to-understand slides. She answers all questions in a respectful and thoughtful way. I felt that the exams were an accurate reflection of the content we covered in class and in the assignments.
While the content can be a bit dull at times, Professor Maienbrook kept thing as interesting as possible. She was a fun person who answered everyone's questions to the best of her ability and the class was fun.
I really enjoyed this class! I knew nothing about accounting going in, and I had no issues with the assignments and concepts. She makes things very easy to understand and is very willing to help.
Do all the homework and you'll get an A
Terra is a great teacher. Utilizes HotSeat (typically once per week) so missing classes is not the end of the world. Homework is straightforward to get 100s on if you put in the work. She often gives extra credit during review weeks so make sure to show up for those. Would take a class with her again in a heartbeat.
Great lecturer, she does her best to show real-life examples and does a good job making content easy to understand. Offers extra credit, study guides, and overall a really good simple class experience.
Professor Maienbrook is a very caring and respectful professor, she accepts questions after class ends and tries her best to make accounting as simple as possible. The tests are fairly difficult if you don't do the read the textbook and don't study right.
She is one of my favorite professors I have had at Purdue! I averaged around low 60's on the exams but with the amount of extra credit she gives on each exam I was able to finish with a pretty solid B in the class! Her office hours are also great if you need extra help!
She's great! The material is super easy and you wouldn't even need to go to class if it wasn't mandatory because all the notes are posted. She does go through examples in class, though, which is helpful.
Lots of extra credit- scored in the 70's on all three exams but ended course with a 90%. Very easy-to-read lecture slides and sample exams are identical to the real exams. Homework takes a while to solve, around 1-2 hours. Hard to get a perfect score without multiple submissions but professor is great. Attendance is 5% of grade.
She is a well qualified instructor and handles thousands of students taking MGMT200 quite well. It is respectable how she fits all of her materials in one class session. However if your major is not related to accounting, good luck, it is challenging.
Super great, very good at explaining things. All lecture slides posted on Brightspace, homework is very cyclical and easy to keep track of. Lots of study opportunities and review for tests. Lots of extra credit and possible test curving.
Tons of extra credit and big curves if you're not a great test taker, actually cares about your grade.
Passionate about accounting and takes the time to make sure everyone understands the concepts. Lots of opportunities for additional help if needed. Guaranteed 100s on all assignments as long as you complete them. Exams are fairly easy as well. Be prepared to answer iclicker questions.
She is a very nice and understanding professor. The homeworks are pretty easy. The tests require you to understand the concepts, but they are multiple choice. She gives extra credit for attendance occasionally using hotseat questions.
Good lecturer, does iClicker (online) every lecture but if you go to ~75% of lectures you'll get full points. Homeworks help a lot with the more technical material and lecture slides are posted online for studying concepts. Overall will work with you if you need help and gives lots of EC.
Homework takes a while to do so be ready for that. Study for the exams by self studying the slides AND the textbook, its a lot easier that paying attention in the lecture especially if you are in the 7:30 section. Attendance is mandatory but she gives about 3-5 days of absence with iClicker. Expect a curve on exam 2 and 3, not exam 1.
She actually seems to care about how well the class is doing. She offers plenty of extra credit for every exam. Lectures can be a little boring but she often ends class early.
Attendance required. Homeworks are a little too much work but class is very well organized, she teaches very good, gives extra credit opportunities and curves the exams when needed. Asks what she says she's gonna ask in the exams. Loved this class.
Overall, Professor Maienbrook is a phenomenal professor, and she does a very great job of explaining the course that she teaches in a digestible manner. Attendance is required (iClicker) but there is a lot of leeway regarding how much you can miss. The homeworks are pretty long and take a lot of time to complete, but it prepares you well for exams.
Prof Maienbrook is a great professor. Her lecture's make accounting very easy to understand and apply. As a STEM major I found accounting to be very easy because her lecture's where fantastic in covering the difficult concepts and explaining things. Her tests are pretty easy just make sure to do the practice ones. Lots of extra credit for exams.
Professor Maienbrook is very helpful and makes learning the hard content a little easier with her acronyms and examples. She is very flexible with her hours if you need help and gives plenty of extra credit for the exams.
Lectures are easy to follow and all you need to do well on homework and exams. Prof is super available and wants to help you do well. Attendance questions and practice exams are exactly like the exam questions.
Good lecturer, has industry experience, friendly both in and out of class, and genuinely cares about her students. Exams do require studying, but it's not too bad as long as you do the homework and go to lectures.
great professor! she brings in a lot of industry knowledge and uses real examples to relate the content. her lectures are informative, and attendance is taken with iClicker cloud. exams are very similar to iClicker questions and practice exams -- no surprises.
She's a nice professor. Definitely knows what she's talking about and tries to make lectures fun and engaging. Accounting can be a difficult subject to follow, so she takes time to explain concepts well.
Easy course, homework can be completed as many times as you want until due date. The tests are easy and each bumped to a B average. There is extra credit for course ratings.
Makes accounting enjoyable and understandable, a very cool and nice person. She cares a lot to make her course better each year. Exams are like the content.
Make sure to show up, she takes attendance with iClicker. Even if you get question wrong you get full pts for attendance. She doesn't excuse any hw without dean of students excuse, so try to do all hw it's pretty easy just look at the piazza
Great professor she really cares about her students doing well.
Very good overall, but exams are confusing and/or include stuff we never learned.
Terra clearly cares for her students, and it shows with the absolutely insane amount of curving and extra credit she gives. She uses McGraw so those can take a long time. Definitely recommend making friends with people in class to figure out the homework. Exams are hard, but the curve has saved me.
Well-organized lectures, attendance is mandatory in the sense that it is iClicker and you answer questions. Felt that all assignments assisted in my learning and understanding. Overall, super nice, cares a lot, and wants to see you succeed.
she was a pretty mid prof tbh. seemed nice enough, read powerpoint slides, but was helpful to like go over basically exactly what was on the homework. extremely structured class, 2 online homeworks a week, iclicker points for attendance. i didnt rly go to class and it was pretty ok. boring af tho. midterm 2 is randomly hard so be ready.
Very easy class if you read her lecture slides and go to class. She's very good at explaining things as well
Incredible, incredible, incredible , cares about her students so much and is the sweetest person you'll ever meet. Do everything you can to take her class
In class lectures are good and get out early! IClicker questions very similar to exam. She's a wonderful person as well. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Maienbrook is a great accounting professor and seems very knowledgeable in her field. She is super approachable and nice, and her lectures are never too boring. There is tons of extra credit in this class, so just showing up will give you an easy A.
She was overall a great prof! Very approachable. MGMT200 is also quite easy content-wise, but she is very adjustable. A decent amount of credit is given for attendance, so please make sure to show up to class.
Terra was an amazing lecturer and would prepare us well for exams. I left the semester with a very good understanding of basic accounting principles as well as how they relate to more complex topics. She is super approachable and definitely made time for students if they were struggling. I miss having her as a professor!!!
Maienbrook is an amazing professor. She makes a somewhat difficult course way more approachable. Great professor!!!
Amazing professor who really cares about the students. Class is somewhat difficult, especially if you fall behind, so be sure to stay on top of everything. Pay attention in class and make sure you actually know how to do the homework, and you'll do pretty okay.
She is the goat. She explains topics very well and helps 1 on 1 very well too, whether after class or office hours. She is very good at explaining topics and if you are confused she answers questions and breaks it down well.
She is a great professor and her class, though test heavy, is fairly easy. Her lectures are engaging, and lowest homework & review are dropped. There are three tests that make up 60% of the grade in total (15, 20, 25) but the last is the final exam, studying should get you at least a B on each. Extra credit can be obtained and applied to each test.
Amazing professor, teaches well and is very knowledgable about the subject. Has worked out a great system for lectures, homework, testing, and participation. The course feels very well organized and the content isn't hard to learn as long as you do the homework.
Best MGMT200 professor. She is incredibly knowledgable in her field and her lectures make that obvious. Conveys the information of the class very clearly, keeps lectures engaging, and is always open to taking questions. Provides opportunities for easy extra points, just show up to class. Exams are incredibly fair, final is not cumulative.
Maienbrook was the most competent professor I had this semester. Her course is well-organized, and her exams are straightforward. Watch her highlight videos for a good pre-class gloss. There are only 2 weekly assignments - both of which prepare you adequately for the exams. She genuinely cares. S/O to her TAs this semester (Nathan and Joseph) too!
Maienbrook is clearly knowledgeable about what she teaches. The class is well-structured, and there are plenty of extra-credit opportunities. She is also very approachable and offers flexible office hours. If you show up to class and actually do the homework, you're bound for success.
Professor Maienbrook is AMAZING, she gave so much extra credit bumpimg my 90% final exam to above a 100%. She knew so much about accounting but broke it down into simple terms and was very understanding. Also the exams are multiple choice making them very doable.
She really explains the topics very well in class and is overall an amazing teacher and gives extra credit on all exams as well.
Maienbrook is a great in two ways--- 1. Structured: makes it clear what you need to do by when, what to expect during exams, and slides are pretty much all you need to know (I would suggest reading textbook to master understanding/if you're struggling). 2. Fun: actually makes accounting sound interesting, lectures are engaging, and so on.
