Stewart is the kind of teacher that you are leery about at first, but you just get used to him. He's not a bad teacher, just a harsh grader.
Nice, friendly, helpful. Smart, good teacher. I really enjoy this class.
Real fun guy. Does very different activities that most professors wouldnt do. I recomend taking him. Very easy going.
It seems that everyone takes this class to have fun. That is not the case. His assignments are difficult to grasp, and then he grades very harshly.I have received decent grades, but this class is no longer one of those blow off classes. The group project sucks, so do all of the papers he assigns.
He does not clarify the requirements for assignments, then grades harshly for not meeting the requirements. Takes three years to say something that could be said with one sentance. I am a 4.0 student and this is the only class I have ever dropped.
Mr.Stewart is very intelligient and educated. He's very challenging. I've definitely learned alot from his class. I would definitely recommend him.
Terrance is AWESOME! attend ALL class periods and write down ALL notes and memorize all deffinitions and you'll get a 4.0 for sure...I got a 4.0 in his class by doing all of the above helpful hints to passing this course!
Stewart was somewhat challenging, but came across as quite intelligent...decent professor, if you as the student pay attention and take tons of notes, a 3.5-4.0 would not be out of the question.
EXAMPLE:GIVES WRITING ASSIGNMENT DURING LAST 15 MIN. OF CLASS STATING HE KNOWS YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO FINISH THEN GRADES HARSHLY REFUSING TO ANSWER JUST HOW HE GRADED AND INSULTS YOU BY STATING YOU HAVE A TIME MANAGEMENT ISSUE. ALSO, HE MADE THE STATEMENT THAT HIS JOB WAS TO PREPARE US FOR THE "REAL WORLD OF JOB APPS. ETC" I THOUGHT IS WAS SOCY 191!
I felt that I knew a lot of things that he did. It's an easy class if you are already aware of sexuality issues. His assignments can get confusing and the group work was rediculous. If you work alone and pay attention the class is easy. Tests come directly from the notes he passes out you.. NO WRITING !! (except for papers)
Professor Stewart was an excellent teacher! Anyone who comes to class, does the writing assingments, and stays up on work will definently get a good grade. He hands out typed notes for the chapters so there is no excuse to fail. He was very helpful and clear on what you needed to do in his class. I got a 4.0. He's young, but very intellegent!
What a cake walk. Just show up most of the time and you will get a 4.0. The book is awesome, one I am actually going to keep. Great professor, reminds me a lot of Morpheus from the Matrix o.O
Mr. Stewart was a great professor. He's very intelligent and open minded, he will take anybody's opinion into consideration. Just study for the tests & show up most of the time (no homework, just in-class assignments) and you will receive a 4.0 like me :)
T.S. was great, all you have to do in his class to get a 4.0 is memorize and spit out definitions of key words, and he tells you exactly what is on the test and does not jerk anyone around!
This class was so fun. As long as you come for a majority of the classes (in-class assignments) and study for your tests you should do fine. He gives you study guides for each test. He makes the class interesting and is not boring at all. I definitely recommend him!
He gives great study guides for quizzes & tests. He's very helpful and very interested in students. His classes are fun & interesting. I wish I had him for more classes...
Very nice, dedicated, intelligent teacher. Show up for class, do the assignments and study from the study guide he gives before every test. Loved the class.
he is a unique professor and make a classs very interesting. I really like his teaching style!!
This was the best class ever!! Who doesn't want to talk about sex all day long? If sex is of interest, take this class You should attend everyday because there are alot of in class assignments.. Tests aren't too bad, but you must study.. Overall, Mr. Stewart's class rocked!! :)
Not a bad teacher, helpful, but sometimes is a little confused. Very friendly, but kind of a wierd teaching style.

Stewart is a total doll........and an awesome teacher. If I needed more Sociology classes I would make sure I got him again. He made it interesting and assigned a fair amount of work, but is very helpful.
VERY nice guy! He was intelligent and had a good way of teaching things to keep it interesting. I liked the class and would like to have him for a teacher again.
Really good teacher, would definitely take a class from him again.
Very good teacher and makes learning interesting....Not boring at all!
Stewart is the best teacher ever! He is also a really good counselor too! He explains things well. Do your work and go to class. I have taken four classes with him and got an A. You can too!
Very good teacher and interesting too.
Mr.Stewart was a little hard to understand at first.Once I warmed up to his style,he was a very layed back and funny guy. You get most of your work and exam answers from the sylibus he gives you. It is his Bible and you hardly use the text book. Study the study guides, they are exact to the exam questions. Not excuse to not get an A.
I took two classes from stewart and in both of them, i did all the work and turned it in ontime- i also payed attention and took notes. however, he rambles on about useless info. he also never recieves emails so you just auto get an failing grade. im having A TON of trouble with him and i use to highly recommend him although, i dont anymore!!!!!!!!
He is a really great prof. very helpful...fun class...lots of notes. the text book has some interesting info but you dont really need it for the class.
Great teacher, very clear and understandable. Real nice guy. Easy work, in class and at home.
Amazingly organized. Great class, I highly recommend it.
Very nice guy. It may take awhile to get used to his teaching style, but you will get used to it. Very easy assignments and the everything that is on the test are given a week in advanced. What more do you want?!
Great teacher. I loved this class and would recommend it to everyone. Mr. Stewart hands out the review for the tests one week before. You have plenty of time to study. I would take another class with him again
I love this teacher and this subject. You get fun in class activitys, lots or stuff to learn, study guide a week before each test, and extra credit. What more can you ask for? The only thing I don't like is his handwriting lol, but he doesn't either.
Loved the class!! Very fun, with interesting topics. You must attend class to complete the in class assignments(new assignment almost everyday). The class isn't hard at all and he gives a study guide for every test.Mr.Stewartis very funny and helpful.
I failed sociology class one ridiculous terms. I completed EVERY handout and got great grades, however I didn't pass every test so I failed. When I took him his tests were essay answers and if you didn't write exactly what he was looking for he would write, "Lacks Content". Ridiculous grading!!
Mr. Stewart is a GREAT prof. I had him for Intro. to Sociology & loved him so I took Human Sexuality and Marriage & Family with him. Don't complain if you don't get a 4.0 in his class, it's your own fault. Do the study guides & you'll get an A on every exam. He gives a lot of in class assignments which really help improve your grade if needed.
I completed 80+ credit hours at Mott and this was the worst instructor I ever encountered!
He was great I took him fall 2009.
Mr Stewart is a kind and understanding teacher for Human Sexuality. Although, students in class act as if they are in elementary school at times and ask the dumbest questions that he actually spends too much time answering.Takes away from time in the class for exam reviews and such. Spends minimal time on chapters. Grades tough on essay answers.
He STRESSES in syllabus to use a particular dept @Mott.I explained it is closed for summer. His comment was "what has that got to do w/ anything?" I didn't expect that.
I took this class in the summer. At first I was a little nervous going into his test because they were essays, but he gave us the questions a week before the test and told us were to find the answers. We only had to do four questions and if you did more he will take your best four.
This class has a little more writing than his other classes, but it wasn't hard. You have to do 3 unit reviews or do a research paper, there are 15 case studies which are not hard. All you have to do is answer the questions he gives you about the various readings. I took this course not too interested but it has intrigued me now.
I had Mr. Stewart for intro to socy & for fundamentals of human sexuality. He's great! He has a kinda dry sense of humor but I thought he was funny. He is very knowledgable but doesn't make you feel stupid. I would DEFINATELY recommend him, as well as the human sexuality class. Also he makes up packets with notes which is VERY helpful :)BEST prof!
One of the worst teachers at Mott. Seriously
Most pleasant teacher I've ever had!.....just study for tests n do assignments out of the syllabus...
AMAZING TEACHER! He's the reason why I'm going to be a Sociology Major!
Mr. Stewart is by far one of the best teachers ever! He does activities to help people better understand and get to know one another, he's interesting and fun, and you can tell he enjoys his job. Very interesting and cool class, I would highly encourage people to take his class.
He uses several different approaches when explaining topics so everyone can understand,at first i thought he got off topic a lot but he would always relate it back to what we were learning.. He is very open to questions and wants everyone to participate. I recommend him to everyone! Prof Stewart is my FAVORITE professor at Mott.
Great teacher! He is very helpful and very easy going. I look forward to taking more classes with him.
LOVE HIM!
Great Teacher, will answer all questions, makes you think about things from different perspectives.
great prof, kes his class fun you want to be in his class work is easy, highy recommand him.
Mr.T.J.Stewart teaches....take it how you want it.
A pretty good professor teaches well and very helpful with assignment.
If you attend class and complete all your assignments it's an easy A
Great teacher! I took his Human Sexuality class and it was a lot of fun. Keeps you interested with fun activities and class discussion. I would highly recommend his class. Not much homework at all. Tests are fairly easy if you pay attention in class. Easy A!
I really enjoyed Mr. Stewart's class and learned a lot. Great Professor!
Professor Stewart was awesome! I've taken him for SOCY-191 & SOCY-194. I would say that the classes were both fairly easy IF YOU STUDY AND COME TO CLASS! He does a lot of in class assignments that you cannot make up. He likes you to think critically (which you should be doing as a college student). I highly recommend taking him in either course.
Prof. Stewart is very personable and intelligent, and structures material in a way that is easily understood. I took two classes with him and had a fantastic experience in both! He's an asset to Mott. However, be prepared to think critically, and be specific in writing papers! "Too vague" is his favorite feedback!
Enjoyed the teacher and class.
Excellent professor - the best in the Sociology Department. No big ego or preening in the front of the room. He is very organized and explains things clearly. He is professional in his handling of subject matter that some students find uncomfortable.
He is very professional and knowledgeable of his subject. He works to make everyone in the class comfortable with the topics and does fun class activities to break the tension. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed which made it easy to learn the material. The papers and tests are not difficult as long as you pay attention. He shows interesting videos
Most professional man there is. The class was easy and interesting. I skipped half the class during the semester and was fine. He is a great guy and knows what he is talking about.
Great professor!! Nice, down to earth, easy going. If you want a good grade go to class! In class assignments were the biggest part of our grade. Lectures are easy to understand and are what you are tested over. I got a 4.0, just go to class and do your assignments. Would definitely recommend Prof. Stewart!! One of the best!!
This Teacher responses to e-mails quickly but does not post grades quickly if you want to what you have you'll be waiting until the end of the semester. A must to sign in to blackboard each week because he doesn't allow you to work ahead.
This professor barely uses the book, and more than often uses examples from barely related literature and articles. He uses PowerPoint, but in a way that doesn't necessarily help you learn. Taking this class requires being able to keep up with his spoken lectures to take notes, and guessing the spelling on names and key terms.
Sign the attendance and leave
awful, doesn't be use the book at all, and if you enjoy being told that white people are privileged all hour of the class you'll love it. never in his office when he's supposed to be and doesn't post grades or give papers back. and he uses a completely different grading scale than he puts in his syllabus.
He is very understanding and as long as you do the work you will be fine. There are tests and papers but he warns you ahead of time which is great! Would definitely recommend him! I got a B+ in the class.
Very clear and concise lectures. While the book is not necessary, it does assist in studying for exams. Lectures are unbiased and real world examples are used, along with some entertaining fictional examples, which are still relevant. Some graded objects do require lecture notes, so class shouldn't be skipped.
I loved listening to him speak during class, he is a very reasonable man and I am lucky to have had him as a professor for my first semester. Shows you different perspectives on topics discussed, usually makes class very interesting for me. He is very kind and calm, doesn't post grades often at all but the class is not difficult enough to stress.
Professor Stewart is a great instructor for sociology. Although if you don't put effort into the class he will notice. Not a classes to slack around in. Highly suggest printing note off of blackboard before class lecture, makes it alot easier to follow his expanding thoughts other than focusing on what your writing down because he's pretty quick.
Did good on every single paper that was due on Saturday at midnight btw . Bombed every single test . Its so hard to pay attention very boaring
I love Terrance!! He's a great professor. He is very knowledgeable in what he teaches and he can be very funny at times. All-around swell guy. Just take notes and show up and you'll pass. He also posts study guides for each test on blackboard. Only 2 papers and they're very easy. Would take again!!
Mr. Terrance is most definitely one of my favorite teachers throughout all of my years of learning. You can always tell that he knows what he's talking about, and he is overall a really nice and fair teacher. He'll let you know about due dates and whatnot in advance. He reminds me of Coach from the Left 4 Dead series, which makes him even cooler.
Takes a while to return grades for projects, but explains material in a way that is easy to understand and is willing to offer help. Quite a bit of homework but it's simple.
I liked his points of view and I'm sure that if I met him outside of class, I would really like him. But as a teacher, I didn't like his style of lectures. He just reads from his notes and you're expected to write down everything he says. He rarely uses powerpoint. But I did like the films he showed and he posts study guides which is cool.
Tough grader considering that he's lazy and doesn't ever want to grade anything. He completely overlooked assignments that were turned in on time. When asked why they were zeros he said that's what I got on them. He wouldn't provide any proof that even looked at them when I asked for more info on the grade. Absolutely awful.
Terrance is an amazing professor! You can tell he loves what he teaches. His lectures were helpful and they helped to study for every test. He grades fairly fast and cares if you pass or not. There was 4 papers and 4 exams, with class work sometimes. I totally recommend Terrance!!
The papers were easy, but the test had nothing to do with the notes at all. Although he did give extra credit.
Terrence was honestly one of the best professors I've had, probably because he's really laid back and will always answer your questions rather than looking at you like you're stupid. He always got my papers back to me in a timely manner.
he gave lots of extra credit, class was mostly lecture but was good at explain what was being taught and providing a lot of examples. the exams were really hard, study lots, the papers are easy though. very caring and respectful towards his students
Professor Stewart is very professional and well-respected. He never said anything disrespectful, he does try to crack jokes every once in a while. If you put in the effort on the papers and tests, you are sure to pass. Class is basically mandatory because it is so lecture heavy and the lectures are not accessible online.
Mr. Steward is lazy and doesn't put the grades in, I thought I was doing great in his class until I went up there and asked him what my grade was. He dims the lights like it is nap time. He doesn't explain things clearly, he goes off the topic sometimes, and most of the time he goes into a whole different subject.
A lot of classes are student lead conversations about the topics followed by a fairly simple in class assignment, the class usually gets let out early and Professor Stewart makes every class very interesting. I would HIGHLY recommend this class and professor Stewart.
Not a lot of assignments therefore grading is tough and not very giving!
The only that I ever got a D in, I graduate this yr! This class was not about marriage and children; it was more about equality. I feel the teacher has racial issues. I was doing good until my one paper, and I talked about my mixed brother. After that, every grade was bad! Lazy grader and VERY dry and boring lectures.
I took this class online, and I'm used to online classes so I figured I would be fine. But the way he set up the course was pretty confusing. Only materials would be in the modules tab, but not what was actually due. I wasn't allowed to make up these points. He is also a tough grader of the written responses in the tests.
Not a lot of assignments but lots of essay questions for tests. I bought an extra textbook to help me with the class. He doesn't respond back with any insight and does not tell you why you got the grade you got. We had about 8 assignments in the class and he knocks points off wherever he can. Really interesting class but you have to teach yourself.
I really don't know how this man is a professor, he takes forever to respond back to emails, his exams are not worded correctly, he only cares about equality, doesn't really teach you a lot its mainly you teach yourself, but the biggest thing was the wording on exams, he is really poor at it.
Not clear on grading material. Not clear at all on expectations. For a human sexualities teacher he is stuck in the 90's on terminology and respect for the communities he discusses. DO NOT TAKE. BEWARE.
This class is a pretty easy class as long as you do the reading/take good notes. The Professor made everything pretty easy and didnt seem to grade too harshly. I think his feedback on things could be improved because when I did do something wrong, he wouldnt explain it to me, but all around he seemed like a passionate and kind guy.
Instructor Stewart is easy to talk with, informative, and available. He always replies when reached out to. I enjoyed his Marriage and Family class and am looking forward to taking Intro to Sociology with him next semester.
This is my second time with this professor. I thought the class was super easy as long as you watch the lectures and take good notes. The professor gave minimal feedback, but I got 100% on most of the assignments so I guess there really wasn't any room for any. He is pretty chill, too. Could be better, but wasn't bad at all.
His test question language is so vague it's almost impossible not to get questions wrong. Also relies on tests way too much.
This class is graded on very few things. There is no text book however in the notes and lectures he makes references to the text book. There have been questions on each exam that were not covered in ANY of the notes or lectures. During the lectures he basically just reads the notes. It is a boring class. Didn't learn anything useful.
This man graded things wrong that the textbook he went from said were correct. Even double checking things from the internet later on. He would grade down essay answers with no reasons. Beware. This man is full of what he believes is true.
Professor Stewart is very kind I will give him that, but his grading is very vague. He will put something like "solid effort" and drop the grade to a B for no reason. His lectures follow a lot of what's in the book and he refers to it a lot, yet on the tests he takes off points when the answer is exactly as followed.
He doesn't give a lot of assignments, but pays attention to your understanding of the material. He teaches a lot of interesting material. Very open to questions and Zoom meetings.
He is test heavy. His questions were not clear he would knock points off , he was vague with feedback. Not enough content or lacks substance and when I asked for more feedback he never responded. He is the only instructor for 2 more courses that I am required to take, so I am considering taking them through a different college that will transfer.
Seriously, If you want to save yourself the headache and money, find a different instructor that teaches the same course that you need. Terrance is a terrible professor.
I loved this class but honestly I didn't know much about the teacher because it was online. I just thought the actual course material was pretty interesting and fun to learn about. I loved it and would take the course again if I could.
Class structure is weird and spread out so far apart its easy to miss assignment if your not paying attention. Class discussion should of been done weekly not 4 times an entire semester. Its almost set up for you to miss the discussion rather than having time to do it. Waste of time and money. Learn more on the subject from YouTube.
Lectures are straight to business but clear and thorough. Most of grade is based on explaining your opinion, expanding your thinking
Professor Stewart covers interesting material, but the class structure can be confusing, especially for online students. Using Unstuck AI and the free textbook helped me stay on track. Overall a decent class if you're willing to put in the work.
He is knowledgeable... but relies heavily on textbook readings. His test questions are worded differently than what's taught, making exams tough. There aren't many assignments to help boost grades, and his email responses are slow. Many students, including myself, struggled and dropped the class. Consider his teaching style before enrolling!
Professor Stewart never inserted himself into the class. There were few assignments that were never explained and could be forgotten about. A slight misunderstanding on a test/discussion board could stick with your grade for the rest of the semester if you aren't careful. Very minimal assignments are not always a good thing.
Takes a very long time to answer emails, sometimes too late. Pay close attention because you will miss something. There is only a few assignments, so if you get a bad grade on one thing it ruins your whole grade. He is an extremely harsh grader, and seems to look over the actually important things. He is very nice, but I would not recommend.
