Has a stupid 10 minute rule. Don't show up 10 minutes after the start of class, he won't let you in and he doesn't accept exceptions. Participating in class is a thing, like he will take points away if you don't join discussions. Weekly assignments are annoying.
Good and fair professor. He doesn't come off preachy when he lectures, he breaks it down so that you can understand. The class content is heartbreaking. He lectures about a lot of stuff that isn't spoken on. Prepare to do a lot of reading and writing but it's definitely worth it.
One of the best classes I ever took. Amazing professor. He breaks down black history in a way that is understandable. The class isn't difficult and he makes it that way. Do the readings and participate and you'll get an A. There is a lot of writing however.
I guess he is a cool teacher.. but sometimes he can really overdo it with his expectations. I will say he is passionate about black history.
He's a great teacher. I enjoyed taking his History 142 course. He is passionate about African American history and it shows through his teaching and lectures. The class involves a good amount of reading and writing but it's expected with taking a history class, if possible I would take this class again.
This is a very intellectually sound and caring professor. he demonstrates a clear understanding of the subject matter and gives room for his students to express their opinions. I would recommend that everyone takes his class regardless of your major. when you are in his class sessions, you don't feel like you are in his class for the grades. rather
Prof. Bratcher did an excellent job of making sure that we not only knew the relevant material, but that we understood it as well. He's extremely intelligent, hilarious, and considerate of each individual student's needs. I'd definitely recommend this professor to everyone!
Answers questions quickly, very nice and allowed deep dive into work. Will definitely be looking for this professor again.
Mr. Bratcher is very attentive and responsive to my needs and I appreciate him for doing so. There's a good amount of reading and video and loved how the videos supplemented my reading; made it easy to understand. I've learned so much and I'm glad I can share U.S. History with others! Great class. Definitely hard for a 5 week course, but worth it
My professor was a very good professor he made sure there was enough information for us to understand the lessons. He would place videos for us to watch the lessons to understand more visually.
Terrell is a great guy and not just a professor, but a friend as well. He is young and thus, has a young soul, and is very collaborative with the other classmates and I, as we participate in discussions. He is aware he can be tough with some assignments, which is why he offers himself up as help so much, because he wants everyone to succeed!
He is the best history professor I have ever had. You will have two quizzes and discussions every week (summer class). It sounds crazy, but if you read the articles, you can find all the answers there. It is highly recommended to have his class. Easy to get A.
So this class was online no meet. Prof. Bratcher made it really clear with the assignments we had to do, which were all based on the reading for that week (for a history class, I expected a lot more reading). The only way to not do well in this class is to not read because all the answers are right there. It's also really to catch up when behind!
This was a fantastic summer class. We had daily discussion posts and/or canvas quizzes. Easy class if you did all the source material readings and watched the very interesting you tube videos. Would definitely recommend this class!
I took this Professor for my history summer class and his class was great. His grading criteria was fair, and he gives you a great time frame to get all of your work in. He is very easy to reach and gets back to you in a great time frame. I highly recommend him as a professor and had a great time in this course.
Hes very good at explaining the work and give you a fair amount of time to get things done.
Professor Bratcher conducts zoom meetings for any student that has questions about the assignments. You can also reach him by email if you have anything all.
Professor Bratcher conducts zoom meetings for any student that has questions about the course. He also gives an opportunity for his students to earn extra credit.
Professor Bratcher was incredible. Very professional and intelligent.
Professor Bratcher is probably one of my favorite professors I've taken at HCC. He is so understanding and really listens to his students and takes what they say into consideration. Im excited to take another one of his classes and I would so recommend anyone I know to take his class.
Professor Bratcher was a great teacher to have. His course was structured and set up for success with clear direction. This pandemic has created a different learning environment but most importantly I really feel I retained the information with how discussions were woven into the class. Awesome, caring professor!
Really easy to get coursework in. Lots of reading, but thats to be expected with a short summer class.
Amazing Lectures
This class was and is an great option for anyone who needs a history credit. The readings and videos are informative and easy to keep up with unlike many boring options we could read and watched. The quizzes were very easy for you read the material, I would just make sure you read every question carefully as the wording can be easy to mix up.
Took his online course and am glad that I decided to. The workload was not heavy at all and took no more than 30 minutes per day. He was also quick to answer any emails I had to send him.
Great instructor. He makes history enjoyable and easy to understand.
Professor Bractcher definitely prioritizes his students. He is able to empathize and be very flexible with a certain students learning environment and situations. Definitely a professor who wants the students in his class to do well.
He was always available to answer any questions.
There are two assignments given in a week and a discussion on every Sunday, where we talk about what we've learned during the week. He responds to emails and concerns the students have concerning the class, and any other thing in general. I think the class was worth my time and I knew more than I'd known before joining the class.
I really enjoyed taking this class. professor was vey clear on instructions/assignments. Very friendly and attentive. Definitely would take this class again. Very good information provided. Very short semester, but learned a lot.
Professor Bratcher is a really nice professor. Just be prepared to watch videos and write notes on it.
I loved History 142 with Professor Bratcher. He is always involved with his students; he checks in via canvas messages/comments whenever we have questions and is excited to help. Even in an asynchronous environment, you have a lot of flexibility because you take notes on what excites you as a student. It is one of my top 3 classes at HCC thus far.
If I had to rate this class on a scale of 1 through 10, I would give it a 10. I also like how you gave feedback on the class assignments and your reasoning for deducting points. I would recommend this class to another student.
Professor Bratcher was a good professor. Always tried to interact with his students and answers emails very quickly. I enjoyed his class and never felt stressed or pressured.
I applaud Professor Bratcher, I was a little bothered by taking a winter class and thought it would be stressful but to my surprise, the amount of work equaled the time we spent in the semester. He gave good feedback, graded on time, and checked in on his students. I am glad I took the class with him.
Professor Bratcher is an awesome professor. I learned so much new information in this class. I would recommend you take this class if you have not.
Professor Bratcher is a great professor and I would 100% take again. Since I took his winter semester class, there was a lot of homework, but that was expected. As long as you prioritize your time, you'll do awesome. He also is very good at responding to emails at a reasonable time and will make sure you fully understand each assignment!
Professor Terrell is really easy to communicate and the work is very easy to do!
Professor Bratcher is awesome. He teaches an African American history class and as far as I know is the only professor at the school who teaches the class. He graded assignments quickly, responded to emails promptly, and gave all materials needed to succeed. I am happy I took this class with this professor and would recommend him to anyone.
Was easy to access and was understanding of my disability. Easily accessible, gave clear instructions.
I think Professor Batcher is a great professor, they are understanding and willing to help you on anything and will work something out . His teaching methods is that you watch videos and write notes on them and then you have a big discussion on what you agree on and what you don't agree on and what would you like to learn more about. Overall great!
As a lecturer, I would 100% recommend Terrell. The issue I had with the class was the assignments. The assignments consisted of watching videos and taking notes. These videos took anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to finish. I think if Terrell changed his assignments around the class would be so much better.
AMAZING professor. He genuinely cares about his students and will work with you if there is ever an issue. I HIGHLY recommend taking his class, plus his lectures are extremely interesting and well thought out.
He is one of the best Professors I have had in a long time. I would take any class he was teaching.
Terrell is the best professor I've ever had. He goes out of his way to make sure students are learning and engaged and his assignments are simple, straightforward, and helpful to the student. I took history of modern Africa and history of Latin America with him and it was pretty similar for both. Tests are very easy.
Great teacher!
I took a 3-4 week winter session course, which was a great learning experience. The course was paced well, allowing me to learn material effectively, with 3-4 manageable assignments per week. The professor's clear communication, fair grading, and timely feedback made the course smooth, and I highly recommend staying on top of Canvas for updates.
I took this winter course over a 3-4 week. There are a lot of assignments in this fast paced course, I recommend staying on top of things to be successful in this course. This course motivated my passion for history/justice. Professor Bratcher is an amazing communicator, fair grader and gives thoughtful feedback! Take this class, highly recommend!
I took the winter 4 week semester, it was fast paced but enjoyable. The assignments make you think critically about African American history. Professor Bratcher gives great feedback, responds to emails quickly and grades fairly. Advice is to keep up with weekly workload. This Professor is amazing and you should take him if you ever have the chance.
I took Professor Bratcher's class as a winter course for 3-4 weeks and it was completely asynchronous. That being said, his course was very comprehensive, engaging and interesting. Be prepared to have time to watch documentaries and write about them, workload is realistic even with compressed weeks. Overall, I learned a lot and would recommend it!
Good prof. for easy A, not good if you care about this subject. I think he missed the mark on structuring this class. He just assigns hour long documentaries which you can't truly digest when also trying to find answers to drawn out and repetitive writing assignments. Also seems to use AI for student feedback which is a bit disheartening.
I took HIST-104 as a winter class and am very happy I did. The course content was very interesting while still being manageable. The class was organized really well so I didn't need much guidance but when I did have a question Professor Bratcher was quick to respond and helpful. If you follow the modules carefully you will do well in this class!
this was a 3 weeks course. not that bad it was fast paced but it was a good amount of work. good amount of the class has to do with writing. The professor was easy to communicate to as well as explaining directions in details and was able to adapt according to students needs. I recommend giving time to complete assignments.
Professor Bratcher class winter term which was 3-4 weeks long and online. This class was very interesting. Be prepared to use your time management. There's a good bit of writing and watching documentaries. Professor Bratcher is a fair grader and leaves great feedback. Overall, a had a great time being in his class and recommend him to everyone!

Just do your work on time
Going into this class I was nervous about the pace of the work. I took him as a winter class and he did a great job at educating with genuinely thought provoking movies and assignments. It was just cool honestly great time more laid back professor!
this was an online accelerated course that was 3-4 weeks long there was a lot of video watching and note taking I would take another course with this professor
This was a 3-4 week class so the work load can feel intense sometimes. Make to organize your homework wisely because doing it all in one sitting can be draining. A lot of videos, however, the work isn't hard. Make sure you turn in your work on time.
This was a 3-4 week class so the work load was a little draining. But the class itself isn't hard.
A lot of homework. Make sure to turn in work on time
I took this class over winter break which was a 3-4 week course. Be prepared to take notes on the videos you watched. If the class was in person during spring or fall. I think we would have been able to discuss more. Professor Bratcher gives great feedback. I would love to take another class with him, but maybe next time in person.
I took a 4 week winter course with Mr. Bratcher. Although I missed a few assignments, I found it easy to still hold a grasp of what was going on in class due to the online discussions and videos. Commenting throughout the video is a good way to keep students engaged. My only advice is to stay caught up in this class since it a short winter course
I took this class over the winter semester. It was a well-paced course, and I learned a lot. The assignments weren't really hard. You just watched a video and were asked to take notes and do your own analysis, and I was also getting feedback on almost every single assignment I submitted. This course was great, and I would definitely take again.
He is a very good teacher, and the class is very easy.
He is a great teacher. He gives great feedback and respond to emails in a timely manner. It is hard to fail his class you have a lot of extra credit opportunity. I would recommend you to take his class yes you learn about black history but you also learn about Asian American, and Latino history. And you do have a paper to write.
I took history of Latin America and was very satisfied with it. Overall, the class was very interactive. The teacher made it easy to understand. Very flexible deadlines. Easy tests and not so many assignments. Provided examples within his lectures. The class wasn't boring but very entertaining and funny. I definitely suggest taking this class.
History 210 (previously 104): History of Latin America. Professor Bratcher is a pretty chill dude. Gives good insights and Different perspectives on History. His classes involve a lot group work and collaborations, though No outside group projects. Work load is pretty average. If you come to class and pay attention you should be ight.
Mr Bratcher is an excellent professor, not just because of his attitude towards students and the course, but also because of his dedication towards ensuring that each student understands, and excels with the information taught in the class! It might seem like a lot of work at first, but it lessens over time, and becomes easier to do than it seems.
Professor Bratcher is an AMAZING professor. He engages the class through Team Tactics and Independent Study (where we can research something that interested us that week). He creates a safe place for students to voice their opinions without being shut down and offers a ton of extra credit opportunities making in IMPOSSIBLE not to pass. TAKE HIM!!!!
I truly enjoyed taking this class, as it was both engaging and entertaining to explore Latin American history and its impact on our present. The coursework was generally straightforward, though it became more subtle as we progressed. If you struggle to attend classes regularly, this may not be the right fit for you.
It's a great course, but it's a lot of work and participation, if ur just doing it as a gen ed and don't like history, take online. If u want to learn and participate, take this class in person. Also, most papers are not essays, some R, lots of writing, until not. He's just a chill guy, but wants people to be into this, like REALLY into this. k
Terrell Bratcher is one of the best professors I've had so far. He is very passionate about his course and material, and he is very caring about his students. Getting an A in his class is VERY easy if you do your work, and, although it may seem like a lot at the beginning of the course, it will get better. You won't get bored in his class!
He will hear you out as a teacher and work with you so you can achieve the best grade possible. Overall great teacher!
Superb. Understanding of students needs. Participation in lectures is important in retaining information. Good at connecting how history impacts us today. He always says that you do not need to take notes, but I find them very helpful for completing the weekly assignments since they are based around what you learned.
just gave assignments without warning or notifying us. Sometimes they don't even show up in canvas until after due date, which was the worst only reason i would not take his class again. He is a cool prof. that also gives extra credit so use that.
The history class was spectacular. He is one of the few professors I've seen who is so open and approachable. Every activity taught us a lot and left us deeply reflecting on our reality. Despite his friendly demeanor, he maintains a rigorous approach in every session.
This professor was outstanding! He makes history interesting and constantly brings up new ideas that challenge students' thoughts. Overall, a very entertaining, and educated class.
Professor Bratcher is a great professor who truly cares about his students. He always makes sure to explain assignments before he gives them to us which is great. He gives thoughtful feedback when it comes to writing assignments and always gives great suggestions on how to improve.
Prof Bratcher is the best History teacher I've had yet he's amazing at his job and cares for his students. His classes are very engaging and all around fun to have. his deadlines are very manageable and he even extends work.
Professor Bratcher is a great professor!! His assignments are simple and it's very easy to get an A in his class - all you have to do is show up and engage with his lecture!! He makes most of his lectures interactive, which helps you to absorb what you're learning. Overall, he really cares about his students and making learning interesting and fun.
I highly recommend taking professor Bratcher! He accommodates people's different learning styles to ensure that everyone understands the course material. He makes the lectures interesting and encourages group work as well. He is also very understanding when it comes to assignments. I enjoyed taking his class.
Professor Bratcher is one of the most engaging professors I have ever had at HCC. He frequently checks in with his students, gives us mental health days, and lessens the workload if it is not being received well by the class. If you keep up with the work and communicate the issues you're experiencing, you'll do fine.
I love this class I learned so much, he was very understanding and graded great . He gave us multiple opportunities for extra credit . I am actually taking his class next semester to as an elective .
Overall, this class was great! The professor was pretty flexible and explained things well that made it easy to understand. He also shows that he cares about students.
Professor Bratcher is a very unique in the way he teaches where while there are day you will engage in lecture slides, he will also include discussions that link to real life events. participating in these events and lectures in class are the key to passing his class with flying colors. He is also very in depth in grading assignments and feedback
involve lots of his own politics in the class, but is fair to all. will educate you if you ask
This course is powerful, honest, and impactful. It connects history to real life in a way that's both uncomfortable and empowering. Lectures are engaging, assignments are meaningful, and the professor is approachable and fair. It pushes you to question the most qualified figures due to lies and corruption. Course informs, does not test ability
Be ready to watch hour-long videos and take notes about them so that you're able to complete the assignment about the video you watched. Also, complete your work ahead of time. The assignments are too hefty to complete the same day, so I would suggest you do them ahead of time. Overall, it was a good class, and Mr. Bratcher is a good teacher.
Highly recommend. One of the sweetest professors at HCC. As long as you complete the assignments you will do well. He also gives extra credit
Top 10 best teachers I've had, take this class to learn new things about history.
He really is an awesome teacher, he really wishes every student the best and makes sure they can retain their information as best as they can. Be prepared for the long videos and decently heavy course load
This class was both informative and challenging. The material was rich and insightful, but sometimes hard to understand, especially when discussing complex historical events and the effects of systemic racism. However, Professor Bratcher made a big difference by creating an engaging and supportive learning environment.
He is a really good professor and I would definitely recommend taking his class.
This professor gives great feedback on assignments that you did wrong and he gives you a chance to resubmit them. He also provides good videos and examples on a lot of information that is very detailed on the topics. If you get a bad grade on the assignment the first time, he will give you a chance to fix it based on the feedback that he gives you.
I took Professor Bratcher's History Modern African American Experience class and did pretty well. It is hard to fail in his class as he says, you just have to do the work. Instead of reading there are long videos to watch and analyze and group presentations every topic. He is also understanding if you communicate with him anything you have going on
Terrell Bratcher is a good professor who really cares about his students! His lectures are funny and he always tries to include a hands on activity. Fair warning you will be asked to act in this class. At the beginning of the class there is a lot of work but just wait out those first 2-3 weeks, the work load will drop making this professor amazing!
Easily one of the best professors at HCC, he makes it super impossible to fail his class. What I love about his class a lot is how interesting and engaging he makes his lectures, his lectures are super easy to understand and he's very creative and tries to get his point across. Very easy grader, just show effort and complete the assignments.
The proffesor matches different learning styles and knows how to mix them together in order for students to engage on the class activies and contents constantly. The proffesor creates different activities which are fun and help students get a better understanding on the topic being discussed.
He was so easy to talk to and very open to being real and not sugar coating real-life matters.
just take the class. wont regret
Professor Bratcher is an excellent teacher in African American Studies. He gives assignments that challenge you to think outside the box and really learn the history of our ancestors.
He was a great professor that provided very engaging lectures, though sometimes they were a little bit over the top, it was fun and much better than sitting taking notes all day. He gave plenty of extra credit opportunities and very little coursework.
Professor Bratcher is a really great professor, who is passionate about the subject that he teaches. I will say that the course has a handful of small research projects that are done as a group, that help get a better understanding of the lectures. Overall, I would take a class with this professor again.
its not a hard class all you have to do is do the work. dedicate 2 hours max just to complete an assignment.
Prof. Bratcher was an excellent teacher. This course surprised me by how interactive it was and were even graded on being active in the school community. Deadlines are straight forward and are very critical. However, there are many ways to receive extra credit.
At the beginning, there are a lot of assignments (3-4 a week), but after the first month, he doesn't assign so many. Sometimes lecture-heavy. He does things like group presentations, "roleplaying", group work, and things of that sort in every class. Assignments aren't too hard, sometimes they feel like busy work. Overall, he's a great Professor.
Good professor, his teachings in lecture goes in depth with topics, he encourages discussions while makes real-life applications and connections. He sometimes ties/revises what we might've been previously taught into that current lesson. The class simulations are fun and also help strengthen understanding and it helps with engagement with peers.
Professor Terrell you do a great job as it is and I don't think you should change anything. You are very passionate about Black History and you find ways to make to topic understandable at all levels. I especially enjoy the group format which encourages us to interact with other students and I enjoyed your class a lot. Thanks.
Terrell is an incredible teacher; what I like about this is his teaching and learning style, he makes history very fun to learn about. The lectures were very engaging he makes sure everyone is getting the main points of the lectures. This class has helped me get a better understanding of history. I would take his class again.
Although there are due dates, Professor Bratcher is very accommodating. If, for whatever reason, you cannot turn an assignment in, you will be able to make it up with the plethora of extra credit assignments offered throughout the semester. Watch the pre-lecture insights before class because they will be the subject of the following class.
The class had great energy and discussions. Professor Terrell Bratcher has great lectures and gets everyone involved. He inspires you to make a change in the world. The workload is not high, but they are essential for the class discussions.
There was a lot of open discussion which made learning fun and engaging. I like how most of the material was videos, which is better than reading material. Professor Bratcher creates a safe space for students to express their ideas or thoughts on a subject and challenge students to think about thing from more than just their own point of view.
Professor Bratcher makes class interesting and easy to follow. He gives extra credit almost every week, which really helps. He listens to students and makes sure everyone understands. His class feels welcoming and fair. I enjoyed learning from him and would take his class again.
I really like this professor. He is kind, understanding, and an easy grader. However, I haven't learned anything about American history in my American history class.
100% recommend taking his Hist of Lat Am. Lectures were engaging and easy to follow along with. Lots of group work with tablemates. Work was pretty easy if you came to class prepared and followed along throughout lectures. Extra credit was often attening sports events or other school activities. Great professor and it's clear he loves teaching.
Learned about the History of the African American experience to 1842. I enjoyed learning more about the abolition of slavery. Easy summer course, but keep track of your work. Communicate questions when needed is important, give a few days for a response. Overall, great class, just keeping up with the work is the best way to pass this class.
Professor Terrell is engaging and makes complex topics easy to understand with clear lectures and real-world examples. They're approachable, offering helpful feedback. The class atmosphere is inclusive, encouraging participation. Overall, a highly recommended professor who genuinely cares about student success.

Good class but moves fast! Weekly topics like Reconstruction & Civil Rights were powerful. Videos got long (100+ mins), so don't procrastinate. Workload was manageable thanks to clear deadlines. Prof knows the material but could improve communication & feedback. Learned a lot overall!
I took HIST-101-300 (American History to The Civil War). This course teaches about the influence of world cultures on the formation of America, but also the history of America itself from 1492 to 1861. Assignments are weekly, interesting and manageable. Professor is understanding and motivating. This is a wonderful time journey Take it!
HIST-101-300 covered American history up to the Civil War, starting with African origins and challenging my views on Black, Indigenous, and Muslim histories. The summer workload was manageable with fair deadlines. Canvas kept me organized, and even online, the professor was responsive. My advice: time management is key.
This class was great. Everything is done is the right time and order. The style of teaching was done in a way that you could understand without all the speeches. I could i would do it again but with something new. It's nothing I would change about him amazing job professor. Thanks, had a great summer learning something new.
This course will cover African and African History from precolonization to present. It will use different topics from pop culture to tie in ideas or concepts. The workload is manageable for a summer course as long as you're not taking too many classes. I enjoyed the class and teaching style from professor Bratcher it was very insightful.
This class was very educational and stress-free, so any student taking this class should expect the same.
This class was great learned about Colonization and the civil right movement, The civil right movement stood out for me in so many ways. The work load is light. Time management is key. no textbook needed. Instructor did a great job in this class. He respond to emails in a timely manner. very supportive and I enjoyed the class learning new things.
HIST 104 was a great course, very informative. We covered Reconstruction, HBCUs, Mendez v. Westminster, and more. The workload was fair (3–4 assignments/week) with clear deadlines; time management is key to being successful in this course (the videos ran long at times). The professor was responsive, offered extra credit, and I learned a lot.
HIST-103-300 2025SU Hist African Amer to Recon This was a chill professor that didn't ask for much but for the assignments to be completed properly. I liked efforts that he did like his quick responses to emails questions on very same day. Assignments were not very difficult and tests, it just involved a lot of focus with your time and effort.
Covered many topics, like the Silk Road, Native Innovations, Black resistance, Dark Ages, etc. Good workload for a summer course especially if you have an inconsistent schedule and need to work at different times through the weeks. Read the notes provided for you already prior to the videos! Great with feedback and quick to respond. Recommend!
HIST-104-300 2025SU Times after reconstruction, Jim Crow, and Civil Rights moment were some of the topics covered. The workload is average just make sure to stay on top of them because they are due on Sunday (you have the whole week to complete). Don't afraid to reach out he is willing to work with you. As a visual learner I had no problems.
The course HIST-101-300 covers early civilizations to the Civil War. Professor Bratcher incorporated different points of view in order to showcase US history. The workload was not hard, but time consuming. He releases the assignments typically on Thursday, the week before they are due and it is helpful to start then. I would take his class again.
The course HIST-103-300 covers Black American History using videos. The homework took awhile but was not hard. The assignments are typically released a week and a half before they are due. The professor is very understanding and wants you to succeed. I highly recommend his classes to everyone.
This course provided a more comprehensive understanding of African American history. This class provided a more inclusive and accurate understanding of the past, equipping its students with valuable knowledge and skills to navigate a diverse world and contribute to a more just and equitable society. I would recommend this course to any student.
The course covered African kingdoms, slavery and the fight for freedom. The stories of resistance and the lives of lesser-known historical figures were inspiring and informative. The workload was manageable. I managed the workload by doing my assignments ahead of time. The instructor made the class engaging and he gave detailed notes.
Professor Bratcher's HIST-101-300 was one of the best classes I've taken. He connects history to today and includes voices often left out of textbooks. The work is manageable if you keep up with it every week. He's supportive and encourages students to share their ideas. Highly recommend!
The professor demonstrates strong knowledge of the subject and delivers content with clarity and structure. Their teaching style combines clear explanations with relevant historical examples, which helps make complex topics more understandable.
When I took HIST-101with professor Bratcher the workload was pretty manageable for a summer course, my favorite topic was about transatlantic trade. An advice I would give to future students is to stay on track. Professor Bratcher's teaching style made everything easier with the help of lecture insights, Everything went really smoothly.
He's very smart and passionate about the subject. I wish we got video lectures because the course was asynchronous. The videos we watched went over all of the material, though. I liked having interaction through the discussion posts. I couldn't get partial credit for large assignments, only a complete or incomplete based on how thorough I was.
The professor is very encouraging and is always willing to help those who need it. The topics are heavier topics that include racism, classism, and resistance. However we didn't get to the Americas till halfway through the semester. For the workload it is all very manageable as you have a week to do the assignments due.
The lecturer is highly encouraging and always willing to help anyone in need. Racism, classism, and resistance are among the most serious issues addressed. However, we did not get to the Americas until midway through the semester. The burden is relatively moderate because you have a week to complete the assignments due.
Detailed look at history from the origin of humans through the "discovery" of America and the colonies. Workload manageable if you have enough free time. I did not have a lot of time so I struggled a bit keeping up. I recommend splitting the work up over the week if you can. He is very friendly and responsive to questions, very forgiving grader!
This class showed me how the past is never really gone it just shows up in new ways. My advice for future students: pace yourself and don't wait until the last minute. Your teaching style worked well! You kept things engaging with videos, lectures, and primary sources, and your feedback pushed me to think deeper.
I took my history course online and the class was easy and manageable for me.
HIST-101-300 We started by learning about the origins of humanity in Africa, then to the founding of the United States and then eventually to slavery and freedom fighters of the 1800s. I really liked that we touched on African history. The workload was easy too. The teaching style was interactive and fun! I felt like I was able to learn well!
Professor Bratcher is a really down-to earth teacher. My first encounter with Mr. Brathcer, he helped me as a new student find out my acccount information and even walked me personally to the IT department so I could be cleared to sign up for his class. The videos he assigned in class, were always informative while fun to watch, I learned so much
Professor has easing grading technique and an amazing lectures he provided which involved students to discuss in detail and in the best possible positive manner.
Overall this was a calm class. The history I learned was interesting. The class structure is straight forward you get a few video lectures with questions and a weekly review chart to fill. The class is overall easy as long as you do the assignments before they close. My only little complaint is sometimes the teacher can be hard to reach.
Great teacher, Lectures are in detail and He makes sure you understand the material he's teaching, his class is never boring, very engaging and fun.
When it comes to assignments, as long as you do them, you will pass the class. He grades his assignments as if you completed them or you didn't. You get a lot of hands-on experience in the class, which will help you understand what we are learning. He does offer many extra credit opportunities.
Honestly such a fun class, he was so engaging, i qould 100% take a class taught by him again, he was very accommodating and made class so fun, me and my friends would be so excited to go to his class lol.
Hes a fun, enthusiastic professor. Be ready to choose the right table on the first day, the people you sit with will be your teammates on group projects and he assigns a lot of group projects. The lectures are engaging, you are expected to do role-plays. He gives out a lot of extra credits some of them have more than 1000 pts so it's hard to fail.
Professor Bratcher is a great teacher to have when going through any history class. There is a lot of homework to be done outside of class, but he is very relaxed with grading and offers ton of extra credit (and they can just be going to a game here at HCC). Definitely recommend him for anyone needing to fulfil a history requirement like I did.
He is a good professor and he is not just talking but we are acting in class which makes lectures more interesting, very easy going!
Professor Bratcher was an exceptional teacher from start to finish. His class is passable if you just do the work. He makes all lectures, assignments, and in-class work achievable and easy to understand. To understand all the material, it's recommended to show up. Overall, such a fantastic class.
Knows how to communicate with his students, supports his students in matters the do or don't concern the course. Amazing & relatable lectures, thoughtful sources, a lot of extra credit assignments, fun lectures, and plus, he's a very easy grader. Assignments are graded based on completion only. Over all, I'd definitely recommend his classes.
Fun lectures, a lot of extra credit, interesting references, catchy activities, thoughtful feedback. Won't regret taking 2 classes given by him, and I absolutely recommend his classes.
TAKE Mr. Bratcher because he makes learning fun again and wants everyone to do good in his class. If you are confused or not understanding something he will go through it with you and help you. He wants everyone to me engaged in his class so everyone is always participating. if you need history take him!
Professor Bratcher is absolutely amazing and one of the best I've ever had. Lectures are engaging, interactive, and easy to follow while still academically strong. Consistently connected American history to global perspectives. Weekly assignments both taught through videos and helped reinforce content. Plenty of extra credit opportunities offered.
Mr.Terrell was a great teacher, his way way off teaching was really interactive and the way the homework is due on Sunday's it give time to complete your work all week as well as other classes.
TAKE CLASSES WITH PROFESSOR BRATCHER!!! This is the first class I have seriously looked forward to attending. Professor Bratcher knows how to lecture while keeping his students engaged and interested. I have learned so much from this course, he is hilarious, caring, thoughtful, and intelligent.
Terrell is a near-perfect history teacher, as he doesn't really miss much and accepts all points of view respectfully.
Prof Bratcher is about as good as it gets with professors here. He is extremely passionate about the subjects that he teaches and get you motivated to learn and talk about the subject. It is a lot of homework but the time it takes is extremely beneficial for your overall understanding of everything that is discussed.
Super engaging and interactive professor. You'll be participating in simulations, small informational presentations, Socratic seminars, etc. Be prepared to talk and present without the scary pressure. Super collaborative class-- always in groups. Lectures are super informative and he explains it in modern terms to help students understand better.
I really appreciate having you as my teacher because you make learning both enjoyable and meaningful. You explain things clearly and always take the time to help when someone is confused, which really shows how much you care about your students' success. Your lessons are organized, engaging, and encourage us to think in new ways.
I love the way he teaches lectures it is very entertaining. Also we had two group debates called 20v1's and the professor he brought into debate was awesome and made our job as students challenging. I have to say the homework is mainly video based and the videos can range from 30mins to 90mins so keep that in mind if you don't want a lot of work.
Excellent professor overall. Very engaging lecturer. Classwork isn't too intense and is graded on completion of the criteria.
Professor Bratcher was an excellent professor for African American History. He gives a lot of small assignments that require you to watch a video or do some reading, but I would say they are easy; it's just a time commitment. Otherwise, the class is laid back, and even if you fall behind, Prof Bratcher gives out a good amount of extra credit
This was a great first experience for a history class in college, I highly recommend taking a class by Professor Bratcher for the experience.
He fosters a really great classroom environment and values open discussion over all else! There are a lotttt of weekly online assignments, as all of the lectures are in the form of videos that we watch outside of class. It can be a little overwhelming, but the content is very much worth learning!
He's a good professor that incorporates his material into real life very well. Although work can be tedious at times, it's never hard and there are ample opportunities for extra credit. If you don't pass this class, it's on you.
Lowkey all you have to do is come in and listen the lecture is so interesting and interactive it's fun to be in there. he's very understanding and change dates for assignments.
he's cool, really recommend if your trying or need to take this class, fun fact about him is that he thinks he's funny but he's not but guys just go along with it and laugh/giggle a bit.
Get ready to watch lots of videos for about 112 minutes, and you must comment while watching them, and note and answer questions as well. You will also get the chance to do at least 3 extra credits, which is good.
Great class and super interesting just a lot of assignments outside of class and is really lecture heavy so if you don't enjoy lectures then I wouldn't take it but it was super enjoyable for me to take
an amazing teacher in all fronts!! solid work load, very easy material to grasp, always available and accessible, friendly + down to earth, and gives alot of opportunity for extra credit by engaging in student life on campus, and the lectures are always extremely engaging, nothing bad to say in the slightest about this prof
Professor Bratcher is an excellent teacher overall. His grading is often generous as he provides extra credit, extensions for students who missed an assignment(s), and explains his lectures really well.
Pretty fun class, heavy on lectures, group activities, and hour long video and reflection homework assignments. Extra credit has to do more with participating in campus activities.
Prof. Bratcher is an excellent teacher! Course is a heavy mix of in-class lectures and online assignments. Lot of videos that required you to watch and comment throughout. Prof. makes lectures exciting and engaging, very lenient with extensions and deadlines. The course content itself is very eye-opening and explains so much about the world!
Professor Bratcher was a great history professor and made learning history both informative and entertaining. Before class, there are lecture videos to watch, followed by discussions of the videos and more in-depth information in class (a few of the videos were lengthy). He provides many extra credit assignments.
Great teacher, very outgoing, lots of roleplaying in this class which is what makes it fun although it is very lecture heavy, you are given many extra credit opportunities.
Amazing professor and class, I learned so much about African American and I highly recommend this course!
Professor Bratcher is truly one of, if not the best, professor I've had at HCC in my 3 years there. He cares about his students and sees them as complicated and real human beings. You can tell he loves his job.
Professor Bratcher is one of the most engaging teachers I've had the pleasure of learning from. This class has amazing lectures, and the opportunities for learning and growth in this class apply not only academically but personally. The course load can feel like a lot, but it's manageable if you do a little bit of the work every day.
Professor Bratcher is awesome and genuinely wants his students to succeed. You can easily get a good grade. He grades on completion, It's very easy to get in contact with and responds quickly. I didn't have any tests. This is my second course with professor Bratcher, if this wasn't my last semester I would take another of his classes.
Mr.Terrell is a very funny teacher who makes you feel very present and made the subject easy to understand, there was also a lot of extra credit opportunities I wouldn't really change anything about this course it's very good and you learn a lot.
Professor Bratcher was a very engaging and creative educator. I wish we had gone over the deadlines of certain assignments in more depth, but Professor Bratcher was very flexible and offered many chances for improvement/extra credit. Be sure to stay on top of assignments, or they get a bit overwhelming.
Class is relatively easy, you just have to pay to do the homework, it's a load. Professor is easy going and understanding. Overall a good class
He is an excellent teacher. He explains material clearly, is patient with questions, and makes sure we understand before moving on. His assignments and instructions are organized and clear, and his feedback is helpful. He is supportive and truly wants his students to succeed.
Nothing special here. Lots of video watching, note taking and more writing. 4-5 page paper at the end of the semester.
A good overall teacher.
Personally I've never been a big history guy. Its never been a favorite subject of mine, but even so this professor and the way he taught this course was both exceptionally entertaining and informational. He gives out a ton of extra credit weekly. You have plenty of time to finish assignments. 5/5 would take the course again.
Imma be honest bro this guy is solid dummy ian even rey cap to yall and this college stuff hard man. def helped me when i was struggling and wanted to see us succeed onna code.
I believe the professor teaches with clarity and strong organization, making difficult material easier for me to understand. Their examples, pacing, and consistent check-ins keep me engaged and confident, and I appreciate how clearly they communicate each topic.
Terrell is a great professor makes class fun and easy to engage during lectures.
His lectures are always impactful and he creates an engaging environment to fully understand the content. Overall, a wonderful professor!
He had a great deal of group activity's and made teamwork a key part of his class. A lot of homework due on the weekend so don't wait until last minute to do it all. Fun lectures that had clear slides available for students to take notes on, the assignments were manageable for the most part. Deadlines are pretty clear and you get one day grace.
A great professor all around
He is awesome
Professor Bratcher was an amazing instructor, and I would highly recommend taking his class. He makes every lecture engaging and fun. He also offers plenty of extra credit opportunities and consistently provides support to all his students, ensuring everyone has the chance to succeed. Overall, he is one of the best professors I've had.
This was an online African American history class. Mr. Bratcher made sure the content was very heavy with multiple ways to learn history. He provided lesson notes, video, articles, and opportunities to communicate with each other as classmates. Communication was consistent. Assignment grades were fair according to effort.
Great class with engaging lectures and a supportive professor. The discussions made history feel real and connected to today. Workload was fair, though some weeks felt a bit heavy. Overall, I learned a lot and would definitely recommend this course.
I liked that this teacher was very goof at communicating. His class was one of my favorites and was easy to want to do the work. The lectures were very helpful and engaging . The deadlines were very clear and reasonable.
I enjoyed this class. The lectures were fascinating, but long. Very engaging most of the time! I appreciated his grading strategy, based on completion and effort. Gave insightful notes when analyzing your papers. I liked the way he displayed his notes. It was a great resource for his students to outline their own notes. Deadlines were clear.
loved his class. The lectures were very engaging and creative. In the beginning of the semester, the workload was kind of a lot but as the semester went on, the number of assignments went down. I also never had a teacher that gave out candy as much as he did. He gave about a week and an extra day to turn in work if you forgot about it.
He isn't a bad teacher but I'm sure his class would be a lot better in person. About every week he assigns two-three 53 minutes lectures, you take notes, and you turn it in and it's based on completion. It was very repetitive and again not bad just time consuming when you have a lot of other classes.
ThisAfricanAmericanHistory course was engaging, interactive, and eye-opening. The discussions, clear lectures, and meaningful assignments deepened my understanding of how the American system developed. Workload was manageable, and deadlines were clear.Adding moremultimedia andclearer guidanceonmajorassignmentswouldstrengthenanalreadyexcellentcourse
Professor Bratcher was great! Hands down the best professor for history. This is the first time I took this class and he was very caring and understanding. I am a student parent and there's times when I couldn't complete assignments and he immediately emailed back right away and understood and gave me extra time to complete the assignments.
The easiest class I've ever taken, just show up, submit every assignment and you will EASILY get a 100%, the final essay for this class is not difficult just try your best and he will give you a good grade.
Interesting course, learned a lot about black history and the fight for civil rights. Course is fairly easy, just watching videos, but many assignments also had you connect what you watched back to the Amanda Seales debate and after a while it feels like you're repeating yourself since there's only so much you can reference there.
