cool guy
Has a ton of energy and knows his stuff - an excellent prof.
Great Teacher! Really liked the class a lot! I needed to talk to him in his office once, and he couldn't have been more helpful.
Animated, active prof, passionate about history, makes students think. Open minded, encourages Socratic discussion, enjoys teaching, and does it well. One complaint; all but *requires* an out of class "study group", really a 0 credit unofficial
Awsome Teacher, goto your study sessions ****.
great teacher
$300, expensive. Prof going insane, priceless.
Mix an older aged man's body with a mind from the crazy house and you have Cole. Older but one hell of a teacher.
Do well enough on the weekly quizes and you don't have to take the final.
He is a crazy guy and goes off subject a lot but he is a good teacher.
Fine at class discussion. A bit too impressed by his own wit and wisdom.
This guy is hilarious. Watching him lecture is worth taking the class. Just go to all the lectures and go to the discussion groups and you won't even need to read or study. Funny guy, you will laugh the most here then any other class.
The best prof Ive ever had... number 8 in the class!
hes the craziest teacher ive ever had

CCCCCCCCCCCRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZYYYYYYYYY........ But good
very passionate about what he teaches, interesting, enthusiastic, and his main goal is to teach you-that the student get something out of his course
GREAT teacher! Very helpful and energetic and clear about what you have to do in orde to pass the class.
The best Professor I have ever had. Encourages students to think is open to our ideas. Do well enough on tests and you don't have to take the final. the class isn't the easiest ever but it is the best and most entertaining ever! (If you don't have time to read alot may want to consider the reading load is rather heavy.)

This guy rocks!! He actually made me enjoy learning about world history, also if you study and ace the midterm, you don't have to take the final.
Awesome class and professor. There is a LOT of reading, especially for a 100 level class. You will not regret taking this class!
Awesome Teacher, very fun, the reading is good. A+++
The best! knows the subject, and so will you after the class
VERY FUN. It's like going to class and watching a show at the same time. He uses a lot of "audience interaction", so if you're not one for getting up in front of people, I'd suggest sitting towards the back. Also, READ THE ASSIGNMENTS. But most importantly, GO TO THE STUDY GROUPS. They help you more than you could ever know.
If you like philosophy and not a chronological history class that makes sense..take this class
HE is the reason why you come to UAF. Dr. Cole is brilliant in his field, hilarious, lectures are amazing, and interest in the students' learning and availability for extra help is unmatched. Would take a class from him again in a heartbeat! DON'T LEAVE UAF WITHOUT TAKING ALASKA HISTORY WITH DR. COLE! He wrote the book... LITERALLY. ;-)
Exceptionally mind opening, out of all the courses I've taken I've taken away more from his class than any other. Overall it was life changing.
Fantastic. I loved his class. awesome!
A valuable resource, he have wrote a few books on Alaskan history himself. Basically being a professor is too small of a task for him
This guy is a genious! I hated history, but he made me appreciate it and opened my eyes to the world
Nice guy, not so good at the whole teaching thing
He was kinda scatter-brained and unorganized and easily distracted by current events. I didn't really like the Modern World History class.
Some students may have enjoyed this class, but his class -without a doubt- was one of my worst experiences at UAF. He rambles on, and half the time it is not even relevant to the class. Trying to learn anything from his lectures was neigh impossible!!
A wonderful professor! Sad that others here don't have enough on the ball to get it!
He felt that it was the place to train students on being students which in my opinion should have happened in high school!! He rambled constantly, spent a good amount of time at the start of every class just trying to bond then would jump all over the place from there. Overall an insult to everyones intelligence. Hes well suited for Junior high!
He is a very energetic and funny guy, I thoroughly enjoyed his classes.Although he talks about his own theories, very scattered, more of a philosphy professor on history, doesn't teach you material. No structure. If you express concern he will get extremely defensive, wont listen to you and threaten to drop you from class.Very unprofessional/inmature.
Although he is discombobulated in his thoughts sometimes and spends 30-40 minutes of every class off topic, his "personal theories" of history make sense, and he really hammers the points across. It is history 100, if you cant figure it out then go back to high school. His class is HILARIOUS to be in, and he is crazy when he goes on his rants.
Loved his class! Some in the class wanted spoon fed material and they were disappointed, but I enjoyed it more than any other class I have yet had at UAF!
You have NO idea how glad I am to be done with this class. I will be the first to admit, history isn't my subject so I knew I wasn't going to do well, but he is so scatter brained I really didn't understand half of the material. Good for someone who loves history, that simply isn't the case for me.
A great class by a committed and dedicated, if eccentric, professor!
The best prof I have had in my college career! Wants to get you to think.
Professor Cole's lectures are stimulating and thought provoking. Loved the class.
Class was hard but learned so much!!!!!
Fantastic class with a really unusual and inspiring teacher, not afraid to push the envelope!
a great class! But lots of reading and thinking required!
I enjoyed his class, despite or because of his unusual approach!
I would never take a class with him again. He is everywhere in his lectures and blatantly disrespects religions without need to. But, as a person, he's cool.
A great teacher! Enjoyed the class.
This teacher is every definition of a scholar, unlike past courses that chew up and spit out religion like its worthless, Prof. Cole equally observes both the religious views as well as the anti-theistic views. It's a lot of reading but Prof. Cole is always willing to discuss things with you directly. this Professor is amazing!
Against my advisor's advice, I took Cole's class due to glowing reviews from friends. The only thing that I learned is that he is naturally prejudiced against his afternoon section after hearing about a rant he gave in his evening class. Don't take this class if you have a hard time regurgitating someone else's opinion. Never again...
This was a fantastic class! Prof Cole makes you think and I'd take a class from him again if I could!
He uses all the class time to tell us his opinion and teaches us things we learned in grade school. Then he expects us to read the books and learn some key points on our own. Very little class involvement, it looks like his TAs do about 80% of the work. I applaud the TA that helped me get through Dr Cole's ramblings and learn what I needed to learn
Best. Class. Ever,
This was a great class in so many ways. Enjoyed Dr. Cole's unique way of getting at the philosophical roots of historical method. It was inspiring.
I am going to be a history major because of this class. Professor Cole is certainly unusual, but that's what I enjoyed the most.
I liked history until i took this class.. Makes things a lot harder than they need to. You dont need to go to class. Just do the vocab and you will pass the test. Didn't learn very much.
He seems like a nice guy and his class was recommended. He hasn't returned any graded material to anybody in five weeks. With midterms coming up I have no idea whether or not I've done any of my work correctly. At least the reading is somewhat enjoyable.
I think Prof Cole is a wonderful, wonderful teacher. Always has lots of interesting and challenging things to provoke you into thinking more deeply. A real delight.
Cole is a controversial professor on campus. Most people either love Cole or hate him. He's a great lecturer, very entertaining, however, he's very disorganized, scatterbrained, and his course can be hard. Be prepared to read and write (good) essays. I'm enjoyed my time in his class, you may too... Remember: DO THE READING!
A great prof!!! He is lively and really cares about the students.
This guy is AWFUL! He didn't grade a single thing until two days before grades were due. When I e-mailed him about it after a couple of weeks of nothing being graded, he said he would work on it. This guy is useless!
Cole is the absolute worst teacher I've had at UAF. He expects an outrageous amount of work (more than all other classes combined) but it is useless "busy work" thats not educationally efficient, just time consuming. He went the entire year without grading and finally postes final grades far past the deadline. He is too full of his subject. AVOID!!
cole was a great teacher! He asked us to do a lot, but the material was fascinating. Great class and professor.
Dr. Cole did a terrific job and I really enjoyed this course. I hope I can take another class from sometime.
Fantastic course with an inspirational professor and great TA's!
Enjoyed class enormously; found it stimulating and insightful.
Loved the class! My favorite of the year.
cole was a great teacher. He has his own ways about him, and makes you work, but I got lots out of the class.
Fantastic class and professor. A lot of reading required and don't skip class--it makes it hard to get an A and you will miss out on a true college experience!
Dr. Cole was my favorite professor my first semester, freshman year. Very intriguing guy who gave equally intriguing lectures. I learned more from his class than any other class I've ever taken in my years of education. One of the best at UAF!
Overwhelming work load, 100 plus pages of reading plus videos plus vocal each week, his rants go off topic and have little to do with what is on the test. He is insensitive to the beliefs of others, rips bibles during lecture, and talks a lot about his personal life. The tests are over 100 points and graded harshly. DO NOT TAKE HIM. It's not worth.
Dr. Cole is a fantastic professor. My only complaint is that he indulges some students far too much. He demands a lot of work but his lectures are interesting, funny and topical. Cant say enough about how much I enjoy his class.
I loved his class. However, I felt like I wasn't learning. I don't think I can remember anything he taught. He was super funny, but got off topic and didn't talk about things we needed to know for the quizzes that we had EVERY WEEK ! He is so smart he seems crazy! He's a great guy who doesn't know how to teach.
Overall the class is very easy if you do your book readings and are good at memorizing vocabulary words. He goes off on tangents during class which aren't exactly applicable to the material being studied, but he includes some of the info from those tangents in the tests so try to listen!
Good class with lots of interesting material brought up that you would never consider.
Terrific course.
Loved this class. Cole makes you think, think, think!
Great class, one my favorite instructors.
Such an amazing professor. Some students dislike his energy level, but you can really tell he is excited about history, and more importantly he makes the content relevant to students. I feel literally privileged to have take two classes from him.
Great professor! A little loony, yes, and I learned more about big ideas than historical events. All historical material was in the reading, which was way more than reasonable, but interesting.
Great teacher, like many extremely intelligent professors he is sometimes distracted by "shiny things", but he has a lot of important and educational things to say. His comments are quite useful no matter your degree. I reccomend him, but be a good reader, be able to read for critical details and quickly too!
Not too bad. Just pay attention and write your papers.
Great instructor.
My most favorite professor I've ever had. SOOOO FUNNY
Great Professor with a great understanding of the subject that he is teaching. I really enjoy that he focuses more on the question of why? in history more so than the who? what? when? where?
Funny guy, but make sure you pay attention to what he puts on blackboard because that's what'll be on the test. Even if he doesn't talk about it in class.
He is really all over the place, but that is just who he is. Read anything and everything. Do all homework possible. He doesn't stay on topic in class, so make sure you do your part to study. He gets really distracted by youtube. Also if you have any conservative views, he will probably offend you. Be forgiving & patient and he will return it.
"I don't care if you can remember who did what or even when they did it. History is written by the winners so we don't even really know that things happened when they did let alone happened at all. I care whether or not you learn how to be a analytical thinker in this class." T. Cole Inspirational thinker and a kind man with a lot of opinions
The most crazy fun and random professors I ever had. He cares deeply about his lecture topics. The tests are very hard. I participated more than anyone in the class and talked with him outside of class. I was still getting 65-75% on exams. You will remember this class and what he talks about for a very long time though! One of the my favorite
