Even though Mr. Krize is a former West Point instructor he's a likeable guy. He's always willing to take calls at home during the week or weekend to answer your math questions. Also, he grades mostly on tests so you don't have to turn in homework often.
he may not be so loose and funny (he barely smiles) but he's the most helpful professor ever! he will answer all your questions and help you if you have a problem. he even encourages you to call his home. he writes everything on the board. easy grade.
He is a good teacher. Very clear and thorough...and very very patient...good good stuff.
The majority of the students fail this class. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
unless you have a really good grasp of math, do not take his class. he tends to go a bit fast and doesn't clearly go over examples. you can tell he knows his stuff which for someone who is good in math that is fine but if you require more guidance, pick a different teacher.
Worse Teacher ever. Majority of the student failed.
HE is very Serious. he gives a very hard test and they not multiple choice tests. i would not recommond you for this teacher. i you are late more the twice he will fail........ good luck
he sucks! not helpful at all, most of the class failed every single exam. the only good thing is that near the end of the semester he tried to help us by having extra credit exams...unfortunately most of the sudents had already dropped the class or were auditing it.
He is very nice teacher and helpfull. I give you one advice for his class ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK because all the questions on his tests come from the HOMEWORK. Also, in order to study for his class you need to give at least one houre. He is my best teacher in MATH.
Tests are very hard. THe teacher is incredibly SMART but he thinks everybody is like him. If you are not into MAth, take another teacher.I withdrew from the class after the first test.
He tries to explain everything which will be in the exams and always do his homework.it's the same questions he gives on exams.
If you do the homework and understand it you have a good chance of atleast getting a C... The guy does his best so as you pass, he will give extra credit etc.THe problem honestly is that he dosent give many example and his tests are HARD. Would I take him again YEAH.... He did his best for me 2 pass
He asks the HARDEST POSSIBLE questions on his tests. I took him 1 year ago and let me warn you guys that he will either kill your GPA or your life with the time it will take you to do well on his tests. Class average was in the 60's. That's not good. DON'T TAKE HIM!
For those who are proficient in math will do fine. For those who are not, you will have to put full effort into his class to pass. If you do pass his class however, you will be well prepared for a higher level math course.
boringggggggg!!!! it better to read the book than listen to him. the tests are so hard.( without calulator). * DO NOT TAKE HIM. (unless you want to fail)
He is a great teacher. I don't know why other students say he is so hard but i think if u study weel u'll do fine. no surprising. if u do homeworks u'll do well. and the most importnat thing is that: His grads r so fair. he put most of his test on the curve. He grades u they way that u never expect. also has extra credits on each test. very helpful
He is a very good math teacher. If you do your homework, you'll be fine. He also gives you extra credit.
Extrememly easy & organized..good notes..very boring..you have to be on time and do your hw...he will never let you out early and counts you late if you are a minute late!
He is a good Teacher! Very Skilled and Organized! He makes the class challeging which is actually great for the ones who want to learn. He is clear as the water and always willing to help. Perhaps he should try to be a little less serious, but in general he is a professional at teaching! TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT A SOLID BASE IN CALCULUS.
Former Military,Good Prof. I wish he would give example problems about the questions taught in class. HW based problems on the test were fine, but I wish the purely class based problems were suplemented with a take home set of similar problems for practice.
He is a good teacher and extremely knowledgable but difficult at the same time. Tests were on the hardest problems. I am an older student with a good gpa. I have only received one "C" (by another difficult teacher) and I have not passed a quiz or test yet. I dropped the class this week.
Mr. krize is very knowledgable and clear on the subject. Gives detailed answers and procedures (steps). I took him my first semester and will continue to take him for the remainder of my MATh classes.Im not doing too good now, but it's my fault.I honestly recommend him . Thank you Mr. Krize. I appreciate your help.
I took Mr.Krize twice back in 2002-The first time round was a bit intense-it being my first semester in college and all -ended up with a 'D'-2nd time round I put it up to a 'B'-Although I took it twice with him, I really thank him as I've learned and progressed a lot in Calc.-Got a 'B' average in subsequent math courses(174 & 277) Great Educator!
Devoted to his subject, very clear, fair and helpful one of the few really professional. The tests will be easy for those who are good with math. They were very hard for me. Be on time, bring your homework, he checks it. Doesn't give extra credit assignments. Great teacher, though.
Prof. Krize is one of the best teachers in NOVA. I didn't put a lot of effort in class because this was a reqirement class for me, I ended up gettin a C. He clearly makes u understand the theory which will make a good base for your calculus class. Take him if u want to do well in higher class. Thank you Mr. Krize for leaving us 5 mins sometimes.
Why didn't anyone rate him as hot professor? He is definitely hot
Very strict (TIME) and fair professor, knows the subject very well... do homework, pay attention in class and u will end up with a decent grade. :)
Mr. Krize really has his act together - an excellent teacher. He is very organized and presents material in a clear fashion. He doesn't take short-cuts: you have to do the homework. He will give you a solid foundation in mathematics.
Welcome to the math 163 class, with an awesome professor, he presents himself so professionaly. very talented. great math skills...i feel sorry when some one makes a bad comment on him.... Mr Krize,,, you make me smile every Friday, and you have proven to me , that math is not impossible. its Fun!
Very organized, homework check then some serious note taking during class, YOU MUST ATTEND ALL CLASSES (Krize always does attendance) AND DO ALL HOMEWORK to be able to keep up, very fair teacher, makes time to discuss any problems, Krize follows all school policies (withdrawl, etc)
i dont know what are u guys talking about. he sucks. he doesnt knoe what he talking about. he exam is hard.his class is boring like hell.good luck to who have him.
This guy is just kind of a ****. I've never writen a report on this web site, but this guy was just a **** in my opionion. He wasn't helpful, had timed tests, and they were hard.
Mr. krize is one of the best teacher at NOVA. This guy could teach. If you do your homework you will get a A in his class. He is helpful, nice and understandable. His tests are exactly like the homework, he just switch the numbers.
what a great soul... a Man of his words... people who write bad about him, should realize that this is college, not high school.... so grow up kids and let the teacher teach,,, he is an awesome awesome person... call me at ***-***-**** if you have any sorts of complaints and I will tell you how stupid , dumb asses you are,,,, Mr Krize is great
He's a great professor who knows a lot about the subject! His class is set up in a very uniform way; there are 4 exams and 1 final. The lowest of the 4 exams gets dropped, so that's cool. You can't slack off and expect to do well in this class, but work hard and it'll definitely pay off!
To succeed in this class is just necessary to do your homework and attend to class. Grading method is fair. Mr. Krize will be helpful if you ask for his help. The class on its own nature is difficult but Mr. Krize makes it a lot easier.
This class is somewhat difficult. The tests are only difficult if you do not study for them. I really liked how clear and prepared he was for each class. If you are struggling in his class you need to ask for help, he is more than willing to help you. You just need to ask! And I think he's funny for reading these comments in class. :)
Great teacher, he go straight to the point, but very detail. His test is not too bad, just make sure 2 do ur Hw cuz he might collect them. I'm not a math person, but after taking his class i'm more comfortable with math now.
I am so dissapointed that I couldn;t take his Mth 271. what an incredible teacher. He made me a math pro... i love maths now. Take him and make paying your tuition worth/// he is straight and he curves his tests..... so what are you thinking, sign up NOW
I had him for Alg 2 last semester and loved it!! he was very helpful, but make sure to do the hw because he'll collect it anytime...plus he'll give you a study guide before the test so no worries...btw..if anyone is interested in buying an ALG 2 book email me at [email protected] :)
he is the best teacher I've had. now that I transferred I regret his class, he was so helpful. his exams are very fair and he has a very good pedagogy. Because of him I liked and was interested in math for the first time. Thank you Mr krize I had the best class ever I wish there were more teachers like you. Big hello from Texas.
He is the best professor! He is clear, well-organized, and fair enough. He knows math, and he knows how to teach. This was my first Math class here, I really enjoyed it! There were four tests and one Final exam, but if you take notes, work the homework, you will get A.I hope I can take 272 with him, but Nova doesn't offer 272 in the spring 2007:(
I had him for precalc w/ trig over summer school. Homework, notes, and tests (on homework questions he gives you to study). I swear i bombed the final.. but still got an A! Thanks Krize!
I was shocked to see that mr. Krize is rated poor overall. His teaching style is so easy to understand, he is organized, helpful, and his tests are similar to the homework questions. Just attend his class and do the homework and you be fine.
HE IS A VERY GOOD TEACHER HE KNOW WHO TO TEACH. HE IS STRICT ON ATTENDANCE THE TEST IF VERY HARD IF U WANT AND EASY A DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF U WANT TO LEARN MATH THEN TAKE HIS CLASS
Very hard course for me. OK teacher, explains material well. Lot of HW, hard tests. Can't use notes or calculators on tests.
he's a good teacher. i'm not sure if i'll pass his class this time. But if i don't, i'm looking forward to take the same class again with him. The fact that is hard for me to solve math exercises in exams, does not make him a bad teacher. He is good, and clear, i soooo recommend him. Oh and he's hot.
He is awesome!! The best professor in NOVA!! Clear, well-organized, fair. Strongly recommend him!!
Professor is hard but fair - do your homework and ATTEND the lectures! He is very likeable and helpful, you shouldn't be intimidated by him at all - just the math.
He is a really good teacher, everything he explains is EASY to understand, gives additional HELP whenever, and his tests are simple. He was born for math!! DEF RECOMMEND HIM!!
Mr Krize is a wonderful, good, fair man. He is a clear and thorough teacher and cares about his students. I did the 6 week course, so classes were long and got a bit tiring at times, but I liked him as a person so much that I didn't care. Get him to smile. One thing he deserves are students who care and are willing to lighten up.
Great prof.Very helpful and more than fair. Understands students and that students have lives and setbacks. Willing to make the effort if you are. Study for the tests, DUH, and you will be fine. Reviewing material through the semester may help you on the final. Tests come almost directly from HW.Which you should also do.Great outlines for exams.
Excellent professor. He teaches in a sequential manner and with insermountable clarity. He does check homework from to time, so make sure it's with you in class and IN ORDER. Study for his tests and you will do fine. All of his questions have been covered in class or in the homework.
Teacher is very nice and willing to help most of the time. And very fair with grading material. Does not allows calculator use on exam. Eliminated one of the 5 quiz grades. Guidelines are very brief, and teacher is very punctual, does not miss any class. Don't expect to leave early. Homework is assigned for every class. Most of the test questions a
He's one of my most favorite professor this semester. I never liked Math before and always felt nervous with it. He made me love Math now. I wish he could teach MTH 174 :(. Well, do homework, pay attention to wat he teaches in class and ask if dun understand. Way for an A. ( no Calculator for tests)
impossible tests. TONS of hw which r way hard. he keeps teaching NEW and teaching till the VERY last minute of class and doesnt care if u dun get it.( MANY ppl dont get it). wen u ask question makes u feel stupid and sometimes embarrasses ppl. he was in army so hes VERY strict.he sometimes tells u to read da book yourself, if hes outta time.
Plan to study HARD. He is a good teacher, but if your major is not MATH you might struggle a bit because he goes VERY FAST. Review of Algebra and Pre-calc formulas. Total 4 tests (last comprehensive final)= 600 pts possible. Drops lowest grade. No extra credit except one question on e/ test.
very very hard. if your major isnt math and your not PERFECT at it dont take this class. hes a good teacher and teaches pretty well but his tests r EXRTEMYL hard...more like imposible to get an A. I wouldnt take his class EVER again.n if you ask you question he makes you feel stupid and sometimes embarrases u infront of other students.DROP da clas
Could not read his handwriting...
he is a very good teacher. i took 166 and 173 with him and he is a very nice guy and helpful. If you are looking for a easy A techer "not a good idea" but if you trust yourself to catch up take it. I learnt a lot of things in his class.
He rescinds almost every privilege you might expect from a teacher, and does not replace it with excellent skill. The real "math teacher test" is to ask them to explain something they already explained. The good ones will explain it a different way. He does not. Way too strict for too little payoff. Definitely stay away.
he is AWSOME. veryclear. his class is hard but it can be easy if u do all the h.w assigned each class from the TEXT BOOK. He is willing to help his students as much as possible. Go to his office if you EVER need help. If u want an A then u should a) do ur hw b) ask him about the ones u didnt understant c)get an appt. go to his office for help :)
In a class of 35, 6 passed. You do the math.
Learned absolutely Nothing. He does enjoy what he does, but not his students, really. I do NOT reccomend for anyone to take, he is difficult, Many students just dropped out-for a reason.
Absolutely, hands down, the best math teacher i have ever had in my life so far. His teaching is extremely thorough and clear. He is always willing to help with any questions. doesn't normally check homework, but watch out cuz he does very occasionally. He's extremely nice and doesn't make anything too difficult keep up with it n you'll do fine.
clear as crystal.told us from the 1st day what he expects, how things are to be done, and what we should do to pass this class. it was my first day today. i was thinking of dropping this class even before it began, but after looking at the first day, i have decided to stay at this class till the end of semester.
his exams r WAY too difficult for ANYONE to solve.trust me i got an A in 174 but got a C in his class and worked my ass off.his hw r gonna take forever and he checks them occasionally.you need to at least study 10 hrs(or more) outside of class to do well in his class.hes very strict cuz he was in the army. do urslef a favor... DONT TAKE HIM
I really like him. He explain the materials clearly and easily to understand. Calculus is not an easy subject, so in order to get A or B, you need to study. His exams contain all the materials he teaches in class and homework. Before every exams, he gives u study sheet so everything u need to study is mentioned in this sheet. Go for him!!!
Even I am not a native, i can understand his class easily. He explains all the materials thoroughly. If you follow his guidance, you will get a good score. Good luck.
Top notch. He used to be with the military, and he is very organized. He doesn't grade homework exactly, but he checks if you did it. He has a bit of extra credit and the end of the tests, explains why he does what he does, writes a lot on the board, and is good about his office hours. I liked his subtle humor.
Great teacher. Do your homework and practice doing a lot of problems. If you want to be good in his class. Practice doing problems in the book and the examples he gives you. It actually helps you get better at Math. Homework not mandatory however its better to complete it because he sometimes checks it.
Thumbs up! Mr.Krize has taught Math for a long time, and he's found the way. He requires students to compute a lot of homework, as it is the only thing that works in Math. Do not be intimidated when he acts ironically, he's hot a nice sence of humor. Crystal clear! 99% fair grader(Pulls UP sometimes...)Let us home earlier several times!
do all the problems in the book that he wants u to do. seriously, otherwise u will get surprised during the exams.!!!
Excellent. One of the best professors I've ever had. You will receive whatever grade you earn, so don't be expecting any hand-outs. If you want to learn Math, take his class, but be prepared to work.
Krize is AWESOME. Notes are crystal clear. Will slow down and make sure everybody understands. Fair grader, hands out study guides, and has realistic expectations. Lots of hard work, but worth it. Do your hw and study at least 3 hours for every exam and you'll have at least a B.
Be prepare to do work! He gives out tons of homework but they're very helpful when it comes to testing time. His notes are very clear. Recommend if you're willing to work
He is a really good teacher. Strongly recommend. Can call him at home and has open office hours. A lot of tests are from the homework so do your homework and you can def get at least a B
He's a great professor. He teaches really well. Although he gives a lot of homework, the homework is very useful because he pulls from the homework problems for tests. I learned a lot with him over the semester. He's very organized, very punctual, and has everything a good professor has. Just do your homework and study and you'll get a good grade.
I would definitely recommend Professor Krize, especially if this is your first exposure to calculus. Sure, it will be difficult but you will learn a great deal from his teachings.
he will waste time reading this in your first class and reviewing precalc the first few classes. then you get behind he refuses to answer hw and test questions later. you end up failing or close to it. drop his class now.
Mr. Krize is a great teacher. He does plenty of examples in class prior to that night's homework, and then reviews/answers questions the next class on the previous homework! He expects you to show up and do your work, and if you do that you will most likely get a good grade! I highly recommend Mr. Krize but be prepared to work.
Krize is a great teacher who understands the material and teaches in a way that the students can understand the material as well (if he puts it on the board know it). He has over 5 hours of walk in office hours a week, if you are havin trouble go to him. For his tests, just STUDY and you will do fine. Also, do all the homework.
IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR LIFE DO NOT TAKE HIM! He goes extremely fast and encourages students to withdraw! He will read this the first day of class and make fun of it! his tests are really long and he only gives 1 hour and a lot of the time he does NOT ALLOW you to use calculators. He gives A LOT of home work and expects you to spend 10
The thing about Krize is he does care about the students, but he doesn't devote enough time to the material. I mean we were going through close to 4 sections a class, and its hard to understand cause as soon as he puts something on the board he erases. And tests are hard, you gottaspend at least 20 hours on hw,if you have other classes don't take.
Mr Krize is a very professional instructor. His Calc I exams are fair. I dispute the criticism here. He only suggests to students that they consider withdrawing late in the course if it is obvious that the student will likely get a D or fail. He does discuss homework questions in class, but he has to impose a limit so he can cover all sections.
Prof. Krize is EXERLENT. PLEASE TAKE HIM.YOU WON'T BE DISSAPOINTED. DO YOUR HOMEWORK, YOU WILL GET AN A.
If you have other classes do not take this course. Lots of homework, which he collects once in a while and grades. If you study you will do good but you have to put at least 10 hours a week which conflicted with the study time of my other classes and made this class very difficult.
Math makes me sad. However, Prof. Krize makes me feel happy. If you want to get a REAL "A". Take him. Remember guys. DO your homework assignment, you will be fine.
He is very strict, dedicated, explicative, hard, but at the same time very helpful. I have never met a teacher as helpful as he is. He will explain everything you need to understand. He will help you from his house over the phone or during his office hours, sometimes even after that. One thing to take in consideration though is that you have work h
I didn't pass, but that was my fault. Mr. Krize is a great teacher and as long as you pay attention and ACTUALLY do the homework, you'll be fine. Trust me, doing your homework on time is the main thing that determines your success rate in this class.
Hes a nice teacher goes out of his way to help you understand Inside and outside of class. For attendance if u miss a class you cant make up the test. He does drop the lowest test grade though. If you show up take notes and study you will pass.
great teacher...really knows his math...if you do the HW you will get an A...oh and Mr krize feel free to read this one in your classes ;)...
I took an Algebra class with Krize back in '97 and would recommend him to anyone whose strong suit is NOT mathematics. His instructions are methodical and crystal clear. Just be sure to copy down his notes and instructions during class and you'll understand the concepts just fine. Best mathematics instructor I ever had.
Very Hard! Unless your Pythagoras, you will be kicking yourself you choose a less ruthless grader for a teacher. Very helpful. Other than that he's a swell old man who has a sense of humor.
Very good professor. Takes time to explain the material well. He drops the lowest test score and curves the tests. Visit him during office hours if you have questions, he should clear them up. If you do your homework, you should do well in the class.
I liked Mr.Krize alot. He teaches so well and never skips any steps during the lecture. He explains everything step by step and shows plenty of examples. I didn't pass but it is all because I really didn't study and never did homework. If you attend his lecture and do the homework and go over the study guides for the test, you'll do fine.
Professor Krize is very knowledgeable in mathematics, but just because it makes sense when he does it on the board, does not mean that you understand it. He is always offering his help, but it won't do any good if you don't take it. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. His test problems are similar problems from homework and he will collect them randomly.
He's a nice guy,but his exams are not easy. He gives it in 2 parts - with a calculator and without. He takes attendance and will collect homework randomly. He goes through material quickly because 166 is 163 & 164 combined, so there's alot of stuff to remember. He does not allow formula sheets for the exam.
Great professor. He knows his teaching materials very well I enjoyed being in his class. Calculus isn't an easy course, however. You will have to study a lot to get good grades. His tests are hard but as long as you do homework every night and do his study guides it shouldn't be a problem. He has a great sense of humor which is interesting.
He is the BEST. You will get good grade only if you do what he tells you to do. He is a real nice man who I have never seen. This is just my first math class in the US; however, I am positive to say that I will take him for my math 174 if he teaches. You may regret if you do not take his class. The best advice is DO HOMEWORK. I like him the most
I am sure he tells and emphasizes 2 words:" DO HOMEWORK". It is really meaningful. Exercising makes you guys smarter. You will learn a lot from him. Highly recomended. You will not regret. After you take his class, you all will remember what I have said here is absolutely right. He is willing to help you outside, inside the class and over the phone
He says not to procrastinate. Don't procrastinate. He says do homework. Do your homework. Just do what he says, Im sure you will do well. I sure he is a good professor. He gives a lot of homework but it really is helpful and will help you do well on the exam. Just take notes, pay attention, and follow the directions.
Hard but fair. An A is doable if you have enough time to invest. Take good notes. Excellent teacher, you WILL learn math if you listen. Tests are hard, especially the final exam, which no one in my class finished. I recommend working problems EVERY DAY. Changed my study habit too late and ended up with a C. Take him if you're serious about math.
Great Teacher - teaches you the topics you see on the tests and will assign homework to help you learn the topics covered. Do the work and you will succeed. Also took him for MTH 166.
GO TO CLASS! If you miss a day, you are dead. :P He's a great teacher. He will read random comments about him from this site. So, Hi Prof Krize! :) I got a C, because i deserve it. Calc is just really hard, but he makes it understandable. He helps you with everything. Do your homework coz it really helps! and he makes funny jokes randomly. Get him.
Great professor. Lectures are clear, and he tells you exactly what to expect on exams. If you do all the HW and attend all classes, you will learn calculus. Highly recommended.
Might be the best math teacher I've ever had. Explains everything clearly, goes over homework, and makes himself available if you need extra help. Tests are difficult (it's still calculus), but there are no surprises: he let's you know what topics are covered on each test. If you show up, put in the effort, and do your homework, you'll learn a lot.
Professor Krize was really clear on what he taught. Good sense of humor. Interacts with students in class and goes over homework before the lesson. Helpful and makes math more understandable.
Mr. Krize is a great teacher. He explains everything very well. This is a difficult class and requires a lot of work. If you study, you will do just fine. For the tests, he either uses exactly the homework problem, or will just change a couple of numbers. You can't use a calculator for most of the test. Great teacher, but hard class.
If your goal is to learn Calculus really well, you are willing to invest a lot of time and energy, you do the work, you always go to class, and you genuinely like math, then take this class. You will probably not find a better teacher anywhere but you have to earn the grade by putting in the work. Calculus is just one tough course....
Don't take if your taking other classes. With what he expects you'll need to devote at least 5 hours a day if you want a decent grade. When handing back tests he would tell the average grade of the class, which for the first 4 tests, ranged from 55%-65%!! The 5th test class average was 29%!!! These averages reflect this professor type accurately.
Great teacher. Lessons are very structures, All test questions come from the homework, he just changes the numbers. Always available for office hours. Funny, likes to joke about himself. I recommend him if you want to clearly understand math!!! :DDD
Don't take his class if you are taking other classes since he expects you to spend hours studying for his tests.
MR KRIZE IS A GREAT TEACHER. HE GIVES A LOT OF HOMEWORK, BUT IT IS VERY HELPFUL.HE WANTS YOU TO LEARN PRE CALC SO, YOU CAN DO WELL IN CALCULUS. I LIKE HIM BECAUSE HE IS HONEST AND HELPFUL.
Professor Krize is a wonderful instructor. He is very helpful, even to the point where he will allows you to call him for help on HW. HW is given every class, but he doesn't check. I would suggest you do it though. Out of the 4 Test he drops one. Take his class if you are a dedicate person willing to learn and earn a proper grade. :)
Mr Krize is good at explaining the material and answering your questions. As a teacher he is clear and concise. A lot of great Math teacher have a true joy for the subject. Mr Krize is not one of those teachers. Don't take a shortened semester with him if you can avoid it. Take Pellerin, he is much better
He gave way too much hw. this class is almost impossible to pass if you have other obligations.
He is a good guy overall, BUT unless you are BEASTMODE at math dont take the class. We started out with about 40 students and by the end of the semester there was 18 left. Nobody has an A. Majority of the students with B's or High C's have either already taken a level of Calculus or are Asian.. Dont take the class if you arent very good at math.
Mr krize knows his stuff but he's his class is ridiculously hard. All his test are fill in the blank + show work & no multiple guess. He makes us do homework on book. Very old school teacher.. not even let us use calculators during test even though he uses them to teach in class. This class is for people who have really good knowledge in math.
I do not recommend taking professor Krize's class. The first day I walked into class, he went on a rant about how none of us would ever get an A in his class, and the tests are really difficult. He's thorough with teaching the material but apparently not thorough enough for his own tests.
just dont take this guy if you can avoid it. doesnt allow calculators on tests except for like 2-4 problems. assigns homework but only checks it sometimes. drops lowest test grade. sure hes a nice guy but 99% of the class is doing poorly.
Prof. Krize is very structured and organized. Although he's not very dynamic, he presents the material clearly and concisely. Attendance and homework count in your grade. Homework is collected a few times and is counted as extra credit if done. He makes a seating chart so you sit in the same seat every class.
The best teacher, I have ever got. Very organized, consistent, and considerate. I have a great respect for this man. please, do not miss him, take his class, and you will get the joy of Mathematics. Long life for Mr. Krize!
Professor Krize is a tough cookie!! He really knows his stuff and assumes his students do too. If math isnt your thing, stay away! Its not my thing and I barely scraped by with a C. If you are proficient in math then he's your guy. Do the homework! He doesnt collect every class, but it helps prepare you for his exams. I found solutions guide useful
To be fair, this guy is professional. He covers the material and gives a lot of homework. But his lectures are boring. I wish he allowed more participation during class. I took his class last summer, and over half the class would fall asleep during his 4 hour lecture because we were simply listening the whole time. Certainely the hardest A at NOVA!
He's a good teacher ill give him that, but he definately is not interesting. He drops lowest test grade, but he teaches really fast and you have to do a LOT of studying on your own. Good Luck but dont really recommend him. NOT an easy A or B unless your retaking MTH151
He is a good teacher, but you really really need to do your homework and be on track. Ask questions because he will help you. four tests and the lowest gets dropped. there are two parts to tests, one calculator, one non-calculator.i took 164 with him for the first 6 weeks. if you do your work its easy to get at least a B and even an A
Please look for other professor, i took his class boring make you hate maths.
only take this prof is you are 100% genius in your math skills. otherwise don't even bother. I had to drop course halfway. took it next semester with a different pro and ended up getting a B. honestly guys, WATCH OUT!
Not recommended if: 1.have other classes that req time and effort 2.have a job/ or p-time job. Recommended/ great prof if: 1. have a big passion for math 2. live with parents(no costs- no job-plenty time to study). My situation: p-time worker with 10 credits/semester..Don't hope for a C or B,he will not compromise, you will get a F,D./ Spring 2013
choose someone else if you're not passionate/naturally gifted in math. goes through material quickly, homework goes beyond class material, tests are RIDICULOUSLY difficult. he has trouble communicating with and explaining things to those who are not math brained. he is also not available to help you outside of class. smart guy, no business teaching
Don't want to take a class to memorize material and spit it back out? Fine. Don't want to be challenged? Fine. You cannot, however, have both. Krize has a class structure that requires you to UNDERSTAND the material, not just go through it for the sake of taking a test. His class will fully prepare you for all subsequent calculus classes.
He is a good teacher but very very hard class. I was an A math student in high school and I never got B on a math test, now I'm taking his class and I only wish for C, probably won't make it. I have to retake the class again next semester. He is really interesting and cool but I don't recommend taking his class if u r seeking a high GPA.
He answers all of the student's questions,he does not have favorites, grades fairly, never late to class, I like this professor but calc is hard. If you are planing to take his class, study everyday and do all of the homework. Just keep up with the materials because it will get harder.
This professor -Not recommend . Put a lot hours / week for this class and hopefully you pass. He teaches A Lot of material and too quick, book doesn't help much while exams are Very Hard. Many in my class dropped during the semester , as I did too, otherwise I could fail other classes while maybe I would have passed this one. but maybe
Make sure you get a math tutor otherwise you won't pass his exams , or save yourself and choose another professor that knows that not every student wants to become a math prof. himself; nor has to become one
Mr Krize is a nice person. However, forget about raising your GPA, his class is a matter of surviving or not. Good luck.
the professor is very polite, very nice, and professsional but oh boy...his Hard EXAMS ...!!
I like his personality so much, he is a great guy, funny, and very respectful but his class is kinda hard. Im gonna miss him so much
Great professor, willing to talk to you. MTH 271 is hard and REALLY req. time. but helps to improve your critical thinking !!I used additional resources such as youtube ,solutions manual-makes a big difference. Mr Krize is a great prof. If you pass his class I can say "You are a survivor ." Thank You Mr. Krize. Best wishes and good luck to You all.
Mr. Krize is an amazing professor. My girlfriend and I took the class without much expectations-- we were just looking for a class that would fit our schedule and Mr. Krize was one of the teachers who taught MTH 271 once a week in a 3hr block. We were blessed to have him as our professor; his teaching is crystal clear, just make sure you do ALL hw.
Don't take him. Your grade is all of the 5 tests and he only collected 3 hw assignments and expects you to do them all. It's all notes that you have to copy down. nothing on blackboard. His tests are really long w/word problems & it's timed. Extremely hard class. A good thing is he's a nice guy and he gives you a good 15 minute break in between..
Mr.Krize is the best professor ever. Not only he teaches math very clearly to understand, but also the lecture is very orginized. If you take a note that he writes in board, you will get an A! Take him
Professor Krize was an awesome instructor. You've got to manage your time well and tests weren't difficult as long as you did your homework. You must do all your homework, because he will randomly collect that one time you didn't do homework. this happened to me just today.
Professor Krize was Awesome. He explains the material very well. If you do all the homework and the study guide, you will do fine. I loved his tests. I got more than 100 percent on each one of them, because he also gives out extra credits. He drops the lowest test grade out of 5 tests. I love math so much now! I highly recommend you take his class!
If you really want to know what Calculus means, take him please!
A smart student? If so, take him and be ready to work hard.
The best Calc professor. Strict guy, a bit fast-paced, lots of homework, but his class gave me a great foundation for higher calc classes. The homework is only taken in twice during the semester, but you never know when he'll take them. 4 tests (one dropped) and a final exam. DO THE HW! If you do his hw, you'll be ready for the tests.
He is a very strict guy. I took him in the summer 6-weeks class. He gave a lot of homework, which is good. However, his lectures don't cover everything in the section or in the homework. He expect you to read the book and take note while reading it + his lectures = full note. No calculator on the test, and he only give you 1 hour to finish it.
So far, this professor was really good man and really teaching really thorough to everybody to understand this concept. They course have four test which non calculator and calculator on it. Of course he will drop the lowest test grade and all the test problem came directly from the homework. So take him.
Very good man. His grades are fair. If you put in the time then you'll do well, and if you don't, then you won't: simple as that. His tests even have mostly homework problems.
If you would like to get an A on this professor course, you need to do the homework and review it. The exam has a lot of problem on the homework. If you confused on some problems, go and ask professor on the office hour and you will be fine. Sometimes you will get a surprise(the question you ask is one of the exam problem) Good professor!
There is ALOT of homework, he does not collect it usually(maybe once a semester), but if you want to do well in the class you have to do it since most of the test questions are very similar to the homework. He is very detailed and concise, which is nice in a math class. There are 4 tests and a Final and he drops your lowest test grade.
If you're not a strong math student, or even an average math student, TAKE THIS CLASS. His lectures are very specific and super helpful, he will answer any questions until you fully understand. If you are REALLY good at math, this class might be a little slow for you. His test are not challenging if you do the homework and the study guides.
Regardless his teaching, MTH166 itself is truly challengeable to get through. No matter what you say, you may have to deal with it it once you get into this class. In the beginning of the class, the professor suggested us taking MTH163 if you feel you can't feel well with it. This is the shortest comment but means a lot. Everything's up to you.
took him the first time i took calc and failed it is so clear to me now with professor susan sherry (TAKE HER!) when i took him i was horribly lost. he's condescending when you ask questions or answers too fast when you clearly DONT understand. fast lectures & he talks at the chalk board. not very interactive with the class
Professor Krize is a nice guy but he tends to lose students when he goes off on long explanations without stopping to break it apart for people. Very seldom does he even check the Homework he assigned, so if you do not do well on his SUPER hard exams (there are 5, one will get dropped, plus a final) then you will not get a good grade in the class
Great professor, taking him now. If you want a good grade you have to put in the work. Im struggling with it now but i can tell you IVE LEARNED MORE IN THIS CLASS than i would have in any other math course. I have to take calc next semester but ive learned the tools i need for it. ONLY professor ive had who I can call whenever I have a question!
Good professor but heavy workload. Do not commit to his class if you cannot commit to at least 6 hours for homework and study out of class per week. You can't pass his class otherwise. My poor grade was my own fault, but I would retake with him if I had a smaller class and workload.
I took him for both pre-calc and calculus. great professor and very helpful. If you do all the homework and study for the exams, you will do well. I got an A both semesters.
I hated this class. No motivation! all homework whether you do or do not he won't collect. How does he assume the student will do it for him? Then tests are SUPER SUPER hard and he is a tough grader!!!!!! The entire grade is based on the super hard tests!!!!! I got a very bad grade, although I am straight A's student at nova and good at math!!!
I loved this class. Krize is great and if you do all the homework and work hard you'll be fine. The best part was he didn't bother with Math Lab or anything but taught the old fashioned way, which I find easiest to understand and learn from. Also he reads these reviews you might hear some of them again on the first day of class. Hi Krize :)
Krize is an amazing teacher. He explains hard concepts well. Gives 4 tests ( one is dropped ) and a final examine. If you do the homework you will do well on the exams bc part of the test comes from hw. ALWAYS go to class bc you will miss something important. I highly commend him. Ps. He looks at rate my professor. HI Mr. Krize!!!
super hard tests, syllabus requires calc but is never used (except maybe for final. not even four function calculators allowed and a lot of unchecked homework.
He is very nice. He teaches his lecture shortly and very easy to understand to me. Even though a lot of my friends dropped his class, he is still one of the best teachers in NOVA. There are five tests, one final exam. He drops the lowest test. Homework is handed in on the day of the test. Specific study guide for each test. I love him.
Great professor. Willing to work any problem that you don't understand. Standard serious and strict math professor. Gives partial credit. It's a hard class. Not specific what's on tests. No cheat/formula sheets. If you memorize calc formulas for a test, but then can't remember formulas/ concepts from algebra/pre-calc, you're out of luck.
Tests are very hard. I felt confident in being able to do ALL the homework. Go in for the test and the problems require the same formulas, but are much more difficult than the homework problems. Homework counts for almost nothing. Tests everything. Won't let you solve problems with power rule. It's either do them the long way or get 0 credit.
HORRIBLE. I'm pretty confident in math but his class was not easy for me at all. Frankly, his lectures are extremely boring and hard to follow. Plus, he is very sarcastic. Didn't like him at all.
The course itself is demanding because it is mth 163+164 so it includes alot of material, however, prof. Krize offers alot of help and answers any homework questions. His tests are not impossible, but I did wish that he would give more time on them!
Mr. Krize, please "communicate" with the students during the lecture. Is the purpose of your lecture finishing up the task in a given time? He is a good professor. However, his lecture needs to contain some effective ways for students to understand more clearly.
Explains material way too quick and unclear. He condenses 7 sections into one test... Lectures are incredibly boring. No calculator on tests or cheat sheets. Would not recommend.
His lecture is easy to understand. Take his classes if you want to learn math or improve math. Don't take if you want an easy A with no working on this course. However, if you do, there are some tips for you to earn an A: never miss the class, write down everything on the board and do your homework. His tests are based on his homework.
Clear lectures. Is always eager to answer questions and lets you know he is there 4u. I strongly recommend him. I didn't do well because of me, I have a newborn baby that demands too much time at this moment, but if you do the homework and don't procrastinate you should do well on exams. Exams are straight from homework assignments, no surprises.
Well, If your are weak in math look for another professer if math flows in your life like air then you'll be fine with any professer. But really tests will be the only thing that determine your grade in his class and his test are tougher than they should be and on top of that no Calculater. THE STRUGGLE WAS REAL WITH NO SUCCESS
Great Professor, took him for MTH 166! he is always there to help and he is willing to do more than most professors. his lectures and homework assignments were relevant to all of the tests that he gave. he didnt invent any impossible questions, you do need to practice alot for any maths class to become stronger in it. would take him again :)!
Professor krize is a good mathematician, however being good at it doesn't mean being good at teaching it. I took his class and honestly I didn't learn much. If anything I'm more lost than ever. He lectures like he is thinking out loud. He is a tough grader and a little too particular about things being done his way. I wouldn't take him again.
I took Professor Krize's 6-week summer course this summer and I couldn't ask for a better instructor. Although everyone had to work with the time crunch (16 week class in a 6 week period), Professor Krize was very organized and helpful with his lessons and made sure everyone got the hang of it with homework and many examples. He's an excellent guy
If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the course for you. For those who are taking 173, please put in some effort because you will succeed in his class. I have never had more struggle in any math class than I have before but this class made me a stronger math student. He is excellent; So do me a favor, stop researching and take his class.
Knows his stuff and good at explaining/lecture. But has difficulty understanding students questions and talks over them. We missed 3 weeks to snow, so lectures were hard to keep up with, and he does everything on the board so it was either you copy notes or pay attention. Fair, a bit dry, but nice in office hours, random hw checks. Good for fall.
Aka Terror krize, He is a very bad professor. My friend and I go from far to his class and if we are 2 minutes he marks u late like the others who come 40 mins late. No calculators on tests allowed and plus he keeps writing on the board the whole damn class while covering the board and tries to squeeze in lectures with 4 minutes left.
Good teacher but grades a little too hard, ended up getting B's on the tests because he would take off points for small algebra mistakes and mistakes that he probably knows were made on accident such as adding instead of multiplying, if your gonna take him make sure you do everything absolutely perfect or you will get a B. Gives extra credit.
Great Professor! Definitely not an easy class. You have to do your homework or otherwise you will fail. The tests are not easy but straightforward and similar to the homework. The final is cumulative. He cares about his students and answers questions whenever needed.
Professor Krize was an OK teacher. He was very harsh when it came to grading, even for the smallest mistakes. But, he was always happy to help when I went to his office if I didn't understand a problem. One thing I didn't like was that he assigned a lot of homework problems, even the ones he said will not be on the test when we went over hw.
He's the best on Anna. Campus. If you can go to diff campus would highly recommend you going to different campus. Don't take him unless you're great in math or if you're only taking 2 classes for so.
You're gonna have to self-teach in order to pass his class. His lectures are vague, and they leave out important steps when solving problems. He assigns around 60 questions for homework per night. No student engagement, complains a lot, waste of time and money. Most of the positive reviews sound the same, and are written in a close time frame, hm..
He definitely is good professor. Following him step by step, you can understand everything he teached and he has very clear teaching pattern. I almost get full grades in the exams . If you do as he asked, you will get an A. As for me, I think it is easy A.
He is very nice and awesome teacher but he is really tought math teacher. I like math i like learning however, its just too much for me. He ask to do 40 problems per chapter and he gives medium to hard level question on the test. you are suppose to know how to solve). Unless you already studied or ready study 24/7 go ahead. Hes lecture barely helps
1. He is a very fair and generous grader if you show work. I misplaced a negative x but my work was correct, so I wasn't deducted the full amount. 2. Teaches the material well and explains why you are learning it, which helped me retain the information. For example he derived the difference quotient of a secant line and applies it to future math.
Outstanding professor. Gave clear guidance on what was required to be successful. I took the 5 week course over the summer, and with his thorough lecture technique - it was not at all rushed; explained things very well. There was a lot of homework, but the questions prepared one well for the tests. Highly recommend if you want to learn calculus.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!! DISRESPECTFUL!!
He has strict rules regarding exams and homework. He does assign a lot of homework, but it is to help you fully understand the concept. There are 5 tests and he drops the lowest score. All in all, he is a fair and respectable teacher, as long as you follow his rules and study you will succeed.
Mr. Krize is a very fair and honest professor. His class is structured in a very logical way and if you put in the work and listen to his instructions not only will you do well, you will learn the material well. 5 tests, 812 homework problems on each section. He is always available to help you. In this class you get out what you put in.
Im not going to say he was a bad professor, hes not. Hes quite an intellectual man, knows exactly why hes talking about almost all the time. Its just his style of teach is very dry, I learned more from the textbook then I did at lectures, every time I asked a question its like it annoyed him. Maybe consider someone else
If you want to learn something , take his class he is the best.
Dr. Krize is amazing. Yes, he gives HW and yes this is the only way to learn Math. If you are serious about learning Math take him; otherwise please respect your time and his time. He is one of the best Math professors at Nova- second to none. His lectures are very clear. Amazing professor
Professor Krize was thorough in his explanations and in answering questions. He emphasized the need for each student to put in plenty of time and effort to succeed, including reading the text in addition to the lectures. It is necessary to take good notes in class in order to help retain the great amount of information presented in each lecture.
Professor Krize is a great guy and will help you out if you show him you care. Theres a lot of material covered so its important to take notes during each lecture. He really made math fun for me and although there was a decent amount of assigned homework it only helps better prepare you for the tests. Its also ideal to complete the study guides.
I bet that if I can use the calculator for all questions, I would pass this course. That would sum up how easy this course are if you're allowed to use the calculator in every single questions in test and final.
Never take this class during the summer. Never take it any time. Study guides are never clear. I rather take this online and study it on my own. He always talks about Calculus and hes very rude. Take anyone else other than him, seriously.
He's a good guy, just not someone you want grading you. He specifically tells students he does whatever least helps their grade when it comes to the final. He explains concepts with great detail (sometimes too much). Students often don't finish tests on time and he refuses to give extra. Overall, don't take him, unless you want to suffer.
Honestly one of the best professors I've had at NOVA. The content is tough and fast paced especially if you take it during the summer. However Professor Krize sets expectations from the very beginning. If you want to do well in the class you need to do the homework. In fact the tests are questions from the homework. Don't do the HW you won't pass.
Mr. Krize is one of the best professors ever and clearly enjoys teaching. He'll answer questions and not make you feel dumb for asking them. His explanations are very clear. He lays out what you need to do to make a good grade at the beginning of class and is a fair grader. Only drawback is the tests are long, so be prepared!
After taking his class you'll be fluent in Math as you are fluent in your native language. He's that good. DISCLAIMER: If you don't like doing homework then this isn't the class for you. His lectures are very well explained, but you obviously have to practice. Tests are based off of homework. No surprises. Always answers questions. He's a cool guy.
His tests are very hard, just one student got an A out of 35 students. He is very disorganized when writing on the board which makes it more difficult to understand
Professor Krize explains the material very well, and is always open to answering any questions. A portion of class time is going over problems from the homework students had questions about. Office hours are posted, and he gives his phone number if you are stuck on a problem. Four tests with the lowest scored test dropped, and a final.
Great teacher. Understands material, distills important info as a teacher should. Lots of homework, goes over in class, but sometimes hurts pacing of class. Exams are fair, but some are markedly easier than others, since some cover much more topics; would benefit from equal distribution of topics. Make a study group early on. Will help with grade.
HW is a MUST! Dr. Krize is a great teacher. I bombed the first time I took Precalc 1 with him, I took notes and payed attention in class but didn't always do/finish homework. I failed all the tests. However, I loved his teaching style, he goes through things step by step and gives definitions and examples. Second time around I did so much better.
Professor Krize: One of the best professors at Nova Annandale campus. He teaches excellently and cares about his students. He expects you to do the homework in order to not only learn the material but also pass the class. His exams are fair: a complete reflection of the material taught in class and homework assigned. I highly recommend him.
Literally, take him if you want to get a C or a D. His test are actually really f ing hard. Really boring and long lectures. Its like he is teaching himself more than the students. Mentions how people are trash talking him on RateMyProffessor. Insecure, non-informative, hard grader teacher. DONT TAKE HIM FOR YOUR SAFETY
I'm sitting in his class right now. It's the first day and he has angered himself through his syllabus. He repeatedly scolded the class, saying to never ask for a re-take. Basically he's treating the class like we are incompetent delinquent children. His repeated emotional outbursts within the first 20 minutes caused 3 people to get up leave. Ugh
Dr. Keizer got his PHD solely to teach and he is marvelous at it. He is one of the best lecturers at NOVA and one of the best math professor in Annandale campus. His tests are similar to his HW. If you want good grade, you must do homework. There is no other way to learn math. Learn from this great professor
His lectures are fine, his tests are similar to his study guides. However, my main concern is that we don't get to do much of our homework in class. Since he assigns way too much homework for just one section, and we cover up to 2 or 3 sections per class. It's hard to keep up and be on time to ask all of the next class. Overall, he's not that bad.
Took him for Calc 1 last Fall. Grades come from 5 exams(drops1), and 1 final. I was disappointed last semester bc I'm an A MATH student, and I studied for his class and got high C's on all his exams even though they were easy I got robbed off a bunch of points. Try to show work the way he prefers isn't open minded to other methods he dosent do.
Tough professor, he made math become the hardest subject. He teaches 2 to 3 sections in one lecture. Heavy test (so hard and long), cannot use calculus for whole tests, he just allows you to use in a certain part, can't open any textbooks or notes ( you have to memorize all formulas). DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Covers the board when explaining. He doesn't do practice material (study guide) which will be on the test, just gives an outline of what sections will be on exams and lists problems to do that will be similar to the test. Definitely avoid this class unless you want to self teach calculus.
I decided to rate before knowing my grade so that emotion could not factor into the review. Prof. Krize is a good lecturer and is accessible outside class which is very helpful. Exams are hard but they are fair. If you are willing to work hard you can do well. I am confident I will be ready for calculus 2 after taking calculus 1 with Prof. Krize.
His Exams are tough. We learn a concept a week ago and are expected to be able to do the harder problems from the book. The expectation he has is a little too high. I would study long hours and will still do poorly. I blow off assignments for other classes to study exclusively for his exams and still do poorly. I wonder what is the point.
He is an average professor. His lectures are very detailed that cover up the whole board. Goes over some homework problems at the beginning of class. Answers questions thoroughly. Goes over every step. However, gives a lot of homework, vague study guides, tests are long and hard (mostly trig problems of calc) but does add extra credit on every test
professor is a great at giving detailed oriented steps to solve equation, but his general teaching methods for students are mediocre, & expects students to memorize all the formulas taught; to solve hard AF questions. HW not collected for grade; study-guide is vague; graded solely on tests; NO participation grade; 225+ HR studying & still strugglin
If you want to pass Cal 1 DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. YOU WILL NOT PASS NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOU DO. First day of class he will spend more then half the class discussing about this website. Wanna Pass? Don't take his class
Lots of people hated his class but i loved him a lot! I really felt like I was learning when he taught. Even though the concepts were hard, he gave lots of explanations. Not an easy A, but you actually learn a lot. Super sweet dude who really cares about his students! He's not for everyone, but I loved him.
I regret taking him so much. His teaching style is just not for me. He can also be extremely rude at times. He often makes mistakes during lectures. If you don't understand something he will make sure you feel stupid and humiliate you in front of everyone. He assigns tons of homework but doesn't grade it. There's 4 tests and a final.
This rating is very long overdue. I transferred out of NOVA successfully to a prominent engineering school. I take very high level maths and am top of my class. I credit dr. Krize with my math competency. I started with precalc with him and followed him to the highest level math that he offers at Nova. He made me a successful student-thanks
HORRIBLE!!!! Please do not take him!! I literally say this to everyone I meet! He is such a though grader! He assigns way too much homework which will NOT be included in your grade!!!! He only grades you on tests! He can be very rude at times! He'll never give you your deserved grade! He is not encouraging at all!! I honestly regret taking him!
Please do not get fooled by the positive reviews. He spends the entire class talking about this website and his reviews on here which leads me to believe he writes his own positive reviews. His lecture are very detailed and assigns a lot of homework which is not graded. Only 4 tests. Tests are really difficult as you progress into the course!!
Theres nothing on the test that we learned. Its trig heavy and he assigns a lot of homework which isnt graded. Your grades are based on only the 4 tests which as really difficult!!
Toughest grader I have ever experienced in my life. He has a preconception that students dont study enough. I studied 50 hours for his exams the week prior and still got Ds. He liked to put questions on exams that are similar to the harder problems in the book on a concept we learned 5 days prior. Not sure if he realizes students need to sleep.
He gets satisfaction in giving students low grades and assuming they did not study. I look at my transcript and my grade in his class does not correlate with the all As 1 B and the D I got in his class. That shows that its not me not putting in work or other teachers giving a grade I didnt deserve, its this teachers issue giving harsh grades.
First off, no calculator for the tests, theyre also not multiple choice, he also assigns crazy amounts of hw, to only collect what he asks for when he asks for it . So youre pretty much just graded on tests, which Ive had to learn every on my own, very strict, very fast lectures, i wish there were enough reviews to guide me not to take him
WALLAHI do not take him. he thinks we are professionals at calculus and expects us to magically know how to simplify HUGEEEEE numbers on exams. Do not take him unless you want to voluntarily suffer.
Doesn't allow anything on the exams no calculator or formula sheet. Wants you to memorize every single detail. He wants problems done only and only his way. If you try another method on an exam and get the right answer, he'll mark it wrong because it wasn't done his way. So weird and petty
I took the 6-week summer course which met 4 days/week. It took me over 5 hours after class to finish the hw but that was key to internalizing the lessons. Prof. Krize really wants students to understand the material and will revisit problems in or out of class if asked. The class isn't easy but if you can invest the time in the hw, you'll do well.
Beware he is an exceptionally harsh grader. One of the exams I answered a problem correctly but did not do something which was not stated as being asked to be done as part of the problem and he chose to take some points off. Didnt bother mentioning anything because I did not want to make life harder on myself. Petty and unnecessarily harsh.
Have you seen those memes? Lecture in class: 2+24 Homework: 234x-45yz Test: Peter has 3 apples what is the mass of the sun? EXPECT THAT!!!! He gives one very basic example in class and everything else you'll have figure out yourself. He also does not teach math to understand it logically, you will have to memorize everything without understanding
Honestly I don't know what all the bad comments are about. He is a very, very nice and fair professor. Anybody who is giving thumbs down is either lazy or does not know how to study. He is a great prof. who makes you earn your grade. If you are looking for an easy professor then look elsewhere. If you are planning to go into STEM then I believe
Mr. Krize is an Excellent instructor! Calculus I was hard for many to adjust to. Yet he did his best to make sure everyone understood the material. when you ask a question he looks you in the eye as if it's a one-on-one tutoring. He Cares so much about his students! Even more helpful during his office hours. Amazing mathematician.
He teaches in so much detail that you end up on getting confused. there is ALOT of homework and at the end of the semester it is his choice if he wants to grade your hw or not. Tests are super hard and long, study guide is basically going over the homework(very vague) and he is a very tough grader. if you dont do a question his way, points off!
He doesn't let you use anything on a test, not even a simple calculator because his tests are super hard with big numbers. If you don't do a question like his method, he takes points off. Oh, and he goes over rate my professor first day of class ..
Easy A. Litterally he makes it so easy ,he lays out the process to success. There is guessing what to do to be successful in class. Heres the formula to success you ready? DO THE HOMEWORK when it's due ASK QUESTIONS on the homework on the following day TAKE NOTES that you can use on tonights HW and repeat. Its so funny he even gives you his number.
Hes okay. Just be ready to work a lot and expect grade deflation because his level of expectation is high.
Honestly, looking at all the ratings on him who'd think that he isn' that bad of a professor. He really isn't, but just the material itself is very fast pace and requires at least 2-4 hours of studying after every single class. His tests are very difficult and has a lot of homework. If you really want to work ad test your math capacity, take class.
DO NOT TAKE MATH167! Instead, take Math 161 1st 8 weeks, then 162 the 2nd 8 weeks. Mr Krize was fair. Cares about his students. Tests were fairly easy. Tested from the book and din't ask trick questions. He's always available for his office hours. WIlling to help students. Tests are everything. If you don't study and do homework, you won't pass.
Honestly, If you're the type of student who hates 2 3 hours long the only professor speaking lecture, don't take this!! His lectures are super boring and students don't engage at all. He expects you to do EVERYTHING!! I had other pre-calculus teachers and they were great, but Mr. Krize was extremely old-school.
Prof. Krize is my worst experience in college so far. He is very hard to work with and is very unforgiving in his criteria. He assigns and expects a lot of homework to be done but only collects a few chapters. He drops the lowest test score but does not allow for any retakes whatsoever. ie if you have a problem and can't make the test, it's dropped
I dropped other professor's 167 class and changed into Mr. Krize's class at the beginning. That was my great choice! He is very passionate and has been willing to help students. I don't know why some students have written bad ratings. He has responded quickly if somebody is struggling or asking the questions. If you follow him well, you will get A!
WORST PROF EVER!LITERALLY! ALSO VERY PETTY AND RUDE! TOOK HIM OVER A YEAR AGO AND I CAN CONFIRM THAT HE IS THE WORST PROF AT NOVA! I GOT A C IN HIS CLASS WHEN I'M A STRAIGHT-A STUDENT! I HAD TO RETAKE HIS CLASS CAUSE IT MESSED UP MY GPA! PLEASE DON'T TAKE HIM! HE'S OKAY AT EXPLAINING CONCEPTS BUT HIS GRADING IS WEIRD, NOT TOUGH, JUST UCLEAR & WEIRD
His lectures are very detailed and less engaging. He gives ALOT of homework and chooses to grade it or not. His study guides are basically do the homework all over again. His exams are very long and difficult. expects you to know and memorize everything to the T. Very harsh grader and if you don't do a problem his method even if right.. points off!
By far the worst professor at Nova!! He makes you do homework then DECIDE if HE WANTS to grade it?! Um make that make sense! Also, he will deduct points just because you didn't use the method that he has taught you, EVEN IF YOUR ANSWER AND METHOD WERE CORRECT. Such a sabotage!!!!!! Please don't take him! He's going to be your biggest nightmare!
Ridiculously way of giving exam. This is the time when you see how a good professor gonna deal and solve the problem. I cannot understand his way of giving a test and teaching. I know his struggling of teaching at this moment, but please everyone is struggling too. He is unprofessional, not considering, and not flexible for his students.
He is a nice guy but his class is WAY TOO HARD for an applied calculus class, 3 tests and a final, 10% for hw His lectures are more confusing rather than helping You have to do the problems the way he shows you or you get no points Grades too harshly! 15+ questions on each test and all multi-step you run out of time before getting to extra credit
This professor hasn't adapted to technology well. He uses OneNote in a tablet to teach with semi-illegible writing. Not only that, but also given homework that didn't always include testable materials. You really need to work outside class, or else you won't have a good time on tests; I kept running out of time and they were a mental havoc.
He is very clear in lectures, and answers any questions you have. He makes sure to give time before homework is due so that you can ask any questions you have. He drops the lowest test score, and only counts your homework if it improves your grade. Great professor.
He was very good at teaching the content and overall the class wasn't very hard as long as you came to class and paid attention.
Literally one of the worst teachers I have ever had throughout my entire school life. Didn't record lectures, and didn't let student's drop the class when they had a emergency happening in real life and is completely unfair to students. Doesn't help out of the class and expects you to know everything. I would never recommend anyone to this teacher.
Not the best at teaching things be is really bad at explaining what we are doing, I was lost the who time and had to teach myself through the homework.
Just do the homework, take notes in class and review it once before you come in for the test, I guarantee an A. He will drop your lowest test grade and also drop your homework score totally it takes your average score down. Helpful, interactive and amazing! Hell be so happy if you ask questions!
At first I was overwhelmed from the amount of hw he leaves. This was probably bc I had not had any math classes for 4+ yrs. Mr. Krize is an amazing professor. He was so available that if you fail is honestly bc you did not care enough. I won't say this class is easy bc it's not but if you go to class, do your hw and ask questions you will pass.
Hardest tests you'll receive from any calc professor
terrence is a kind person but he is just an old fashioned professor. the only materials he gives you are quesiton problems to solve. your notes will only be your own handwritten ones because he teaches by solving problems on the black board and erases it mintues after. on another hand he drops your lowest test score and the only hw is mathlab.
Dr. Krize is a kind person but his course is SUPER lecture heavy, old school teaching. Mainly does problems on the board and erases them after so if you don't catch all of it, good luck. He assigns what feels like a lot of home work but he gives you a little less than two weeks to do it. If you have a heavy load that semester, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Amazing professor and I would love to take him again, but he doesn't teach past Calculus 1. Drops lowest test, and only counts your homework if it will help raise your score. Although attendance is required, it's not graded and you can be absent a few days. Lectures are amazing and will go over hard problems. Make sure you study and you will pass.
Professor Krize isn't a bad person. That being said he teaches in a very old school way. If you aren't studying at least everyday for about like 2-3 hours then you are going to struggle on the exams. Don't even think about skipping classes because he doesn't even post the notes on Canvas so if you miss it, good luck. There is a lot of hw as well.
Mr.Kirize is an old-fashioned professor. As long as you follow his instructions you will be good. He kind of takes time driving formulas in the class rather than just using them. At the same time, he also takes his time during the first few weeks of class and dumps everything on students. But I would say he is a very kind professor.
very old school. like doesn't know some of the methods we used in highschool. class is graded from 3 tests and a final. Most of the class dropped and we went from about 25 to 10 students. Tests are what he teaches but always slightly harder. He is definetly not the worst, at the end of the day you can still pass the class. just a lot of studying.
DO NOT EXPECT TO LEARN AT YOUR OWN PACE Mr. Krize teaches his students as if he's reviewing material instead of teaching it He expects his students to understand every word he says, often miswrites steps in problems, assigns homework that doesn't reflect test problems, and does not record classes. Miss one class, you fail the next test.
If you're a student who doesn't pay attention to class don't take him. He is a good teacher and is lenient with extensions on homework. However, if you miss/don't pay attention during a lecture you're finished(if you dont revise). I recommend you don't take him if you do not pay attention in class. I just wish he recorded his lectures.
MTH 167 & 263. Drives formulas more than showing application. A lot of homework and committed studying is required to pass. Gives partial credit on wrong answers if you try showing work. Switches up and makes exams more difficult. Makes mistakes during lecture and isn't great at answering questions. If you haven't taken calc before don't take him.
"I believe his evaluation method is fair. If you study diligently and complete your homework independently, you will pass. However, if you show a lack of interest in his class, he will reciprocate. He is very reliable with his office hours. he values punctuality. The first and second tests are quite challenging, but the third and fourth are easier.
Professor Krize teaches in a very old-school style. Lots of homework and exams that don't always align with what's covered in class. However, using resources like unstuckstudy AI and the free textbook can really help supplement the material.
literally worst professor ever. he does even teach. instead he teaches as if u already know the material and goes EXTREMELY fast. makes you feel dumb asking questions too. his tests are hard and doesn't really match the hw. Oh about that.. TONS of my math lab assignments and then the test is a whole different format. be ready to study on your own
He actually cares about you, your future, and your grades.
The professor is kind, but he CANNOT teach . You won't learn anything in class, his lectures only consist of practice problems, no actual teaching. There are 3 exams and a final that are 90% of your grade. I've never had a problem with math, always been an "A" student. I currently have a D. If you've never taken calc before, don't take it with him.
His study guides literally say to go over everything we've learned, don't expect an actual study guide. Atleast half the students dropped the class and all the rest are suffering now. The tests also have questions we've never seen before. This is my third semester at nova, so far hes the worst professor Ive had BY FAR. I'll cry myself to sleep now.
This math professor gives exams with over 25 questions, which makes it very difficult to finish on time. He teaches simple problems during class, but the questions on the exams are much more challenging and often unexpected. He is also a very tough grader. Be prepared for a lot of stress and frustration.
I personally didn't have the best experience with this professor, but overall a good professor. He is very lecture heavy, and is willing to answer questions and will admit when he's wrong. I just couldn't follow along and wasn't the best way for me to learn. Tests are all free response. If you pay attention in class, you'll be fine.
Krize is horrible. He teaches like he expects you to know everything already. 5 tests that are literally so difficult because you can't use your calculators for most of it. Bunch of rambling, facing the board most of the time, and teaching you stuff that is sometimes not even on the test. Kind of a rude guy, too. Don't take him if u can help it.
Please, Please, Please, if you want to pass DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! He's a good person, but that doesn't mask the fact that he is not good at teaching. He acts like you already know the work, so it feels like you're doing review; he just talks and moves super fast. I've always been an A student especially in math, but truly he made me think otherwise.
He has very few resources online, he doesn't know how to use technology, and he is a very strict grader. The study guides he gives out are essentially useless, the online textbook is extremely hard to navigate, and even once you get to it, only like a third of it is relevant information.
