This professor is awesome. He is helpful and lets you know exactly what he expects from you at the beginning. He gets a big thumbs up!!
His tests are really hard.
Know your slides backward and forward - that's pretty much the test. Questions can be tricky - unless you know your slides!
This class is hard, no two ways about it. You have to study and the book is necessary to explain the concepts. The test questions, however, mostly come from the slides. There are also several questions on every test from the reading assignments, and some questions that come from nowhere, to weed out A's from B's and so forth. Very nice and helpful.
His tests are horrible. No matter how much I studied, I always failed his tests.
I passed this class but I know nothing more now than i did before. It's sad that a medical such as South has anatomy classes like 114 and 115. And it's really bad when your advisors say not to worry that you're not getting anything out of it, just try and pass.
have to agree with the previous responses. CLS 114 & 115 are probably the MOST important classes for medical students, but yet VERY LITTLE effort given by the university to provide a better & more practical workload to be able to learn the material.
This stuff is hard no matter what. The slides are important, but need to know the book too. He basically just reads the slides off to you and there is no way to say it other than it is boring. Hard to grasp his personality too..likes to be silly in class, but just talking to him is like it is a different person???
Dr. Ravine is an incredible professor! Nice guy, funny sense of humor. A&P II is tough, not Ravine. Added extra points to final average for attendance. Posts study guide. Genuninely wants his students to succeed. Took Carliss for Part 2 this past summer, made a C. Took Ravine, made a B.
entertaining in class, but doesn't make material easier to learn. focus on slides for tests. he's pretty straight forward and tries to give you all the help he can, but it is just a hard class with a lot of material to learn.
Ravine is great. This isn't one of those classes you can just BS your way through, you have to work hard & actually understand the material. These A&P courses aren't meant to be easy; they're meant to weed out those who aren't serious about Nursing, Med School, etc. If you can't pass this class, change your major, b/c it's only going to get worse.
Dr. R. is great. By far he has been the best proffesor I've had to date. He lets you know as much has he can about the exams. Study Guides were very helpful. If you make the effort he definitely will do the same. The subject is not easy but this is the teacher to have!!!!
very good teacher. hard tests. notecards were helpful. memorize his slides/notes
Dr. Ravine is one of the best instructor's South Alabama has. His tests are tough, but it's the nature of the material. I guess if you're going to be a doctor, nurse or radiologist, you have to know your A & P. My advice is know the slides backwards and forwards, come to class and you'll pass.
Great teacher! He is very entertaining in class which makes the class go by faster! His mannerisms are just funny and amusing. His tests are a little difficult but if you study they are not impossible. Slides are imortant and so are assigned readings and chapter quizzes if you want to make a maximum grade. I thoroughly enjoyed his class.
Wish I could have another class with him! His teaching is complex but his tests are still 100 level. This means that for those who are OCD and must know exactly how and why he will give it to you, but the tests aren't impossible. Still a gatekeeper course, though, so tear the book apart, especially parts pertaining to slides. Excellent professor!!!
Well, although he is entertaining, not a good class. I withdrew from class because no matter how much I studied for his test I always failed. ALWAYS!!
It is a lot of material to go over and most of it is memorization but if you attend class then he will tell you what to look out for and what could be on the test. hint hint. If you study the slides and what he told you to remember you will be fine. On his study guides answer each question and make questions out of the other answers. A is possib
Easy as long as your listen to cues
THIS CLASS IS HARD AND IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS UNLESS YOU LIVE AND BREATHE ANATOMY!!! I WITHDREW
IMPOSSIBLE. Very hard class. I am taking other classes too so i dont have much time. Do not take him unless you have to you will prolly fail even if you love anatomy.
it's not an easy class, but if you know the slides, you will be just fine. he is a very nice guy!
I took Dr.Ravine for A & P I and I am taking him this semester for A and P II. I like him as an instructor. To get an A, you MUST study his slides and attend class :) I made a C in A & P I (very disappointing), but now I know what to study... HIS SLIDES! Good Luck! An A is possible though!
Impossible class, studied hard his powerpoint¬es for bmd114 (memorized power points).Eat & slept A&P still did not passed the test. His tests are complex, uses other names(nick names) for definition so look them up on the web.Comes of ignored when you talk to him(talks to you like you are a no body),Take the class at another school, if possible.
Very challenging course! He gives you the info that he wants you to know for the test, but it is abunchhhh! His class is not impossibe, just time comsuming. Dr. Ravine belives you should study atleast 20hrs a week for his class. "no joke" his words.
he is a good teacher the material is just hard. you HAVE to study!!! a lot to make higher than a C. it is a challenging class but doable
I have never been so stressed in my life until this class. Dr. Ravine is quite entertaining, but I hate the way his class is taught. I personally feel that to do great in his class, I would have to completely devote my entire life to pass it. Because of him, I had a 4.0 and I was tempted to withdraw from south to avoid taking him again.
Is not flexible and is rude to students when they seek help from him.
The only thing he does is read straight from the slides, something you could do yourself. you learn nothing, unfortunately he is the only professor south has to offer in A&P. Taking him dropped my gpa and i didn't learn a thing.
He would be a good teacher but he just reads off the slides. If you ask for help he wont help you. He wont help you learn it or give you tools to do so. His tests are HARD! If you want to pass you have to read the book AND slides more than once and actually KNOW the amterial
LISTEN! I know you don't want to, but please go to class everyday! Those attendance points might add up in the end. Just being there and listening to him will help alot! He gives hints about what is going to be on the test, you just have to stay awake. Do the study guide up and down when he posts it. It will tell you everything you need to kno
Making an A is not impossible, just difficult. Read every word in the book. If something is mentioned in only one sentence, he'll make a test question from it. DO NOT study the easy or obvious stuff; he will test the difficult concepts. You can retake quizzes until you make a 100, MAKE SURE you do that. Class is hard to understand, so READ THE BOOK
I made an A on this class without attending class. Why? I read every single thing in the book!
Everything that is on the slides needs to be memorized for the test. Start memorizing on day one. In class he tells you which charts to know. He gets very sidetracked and class is very boring but if you are borderline pass/fail but you have attended class he will pass you.
Powerpoints, what he posts on coursecompass, and the book is essential to make a good grade on his tests. Attendance boosts your overall average. Typically 4 Lab days a semester. Class isn't bad, but studying is a must.
OH DR. RAVIVE! I TOOK HIM FOR 114 AND NOW IN HIS 115 CLASS. I GOT A C IN 114. HE IS GOOFY BUT TEACHES VERY WELL. YOU DO GET 3 EXTRA POINTS ADDED TO YOUR TOTAL GRADE AT THE END IF YOU HAVE BEEN TO EVERY CLASS. STUDY THE SLIDES AND READ THE BOOK. MY ONLY COMPLAINT WOULD BE IS SOMETIMES HE WILL START TO SAY SOMETHING AND NOT FINISH WITH THE ANSWER YOU
He's awful! Don't take it at South! He doesn't help at all. His tests are super hard and asks the worst questions! They are confusing and don't make sense.
I have taken Dr. Ravine for 114 & 115 his test are difficult but not impossible. you have to completely know his slides backwards & forwards, & you have to come to class to recieve bonus points which are extremely helpful towards your final average he has a sense of humor. However, this class should not be taught as a 100 level course it's intense!
Ravine is awful! I took his BMD 114 and 115 class and got nothing out of it! He practically reads directly off the slides in class, makes a few bad jokes, and then puts the slides online after lectures. I get nothing out of going to his class. I did not attend his lectures once for his 115 class and I made a B, just studying on my own.
Dr. Ravine is an excellent teacher. You don't have to take your own notes, because he gives you the notes [i.e., powerpoint slides]. He even color codes the most important points in red and in blue. His tests were hard but fair. Courses in BMD aren't easy, but this was a good intro to what's expected of you.
So hard. Visit him and go over your tests, Seriously! I did not pass but I am re-taking the class in fall. I made a 100 in lab but the tests not so much. Study bits at a time, not long sessions like I did. The tests aren't as hard as they seem, it's just a lot of material. I wouldn't recommend this class with a heavy load of other classes and work.
the test are hard and you need to know your stuff in and out. think of it like this, you would not want to go to the E.R. and be seen by someone who did not take studing serious.you must know the slides and book.use all study material provided on coursecompass and leave at least 2+ hours of study time per class session and review slides everyday.
This class is hard and time consuming...But Ravine tries to make jokes to keep it light...You have to study ALOT...know his slides especially. Also, do not leave trash in his room or have you cell phone out, EVER. It makes him really mad, and he will post his anger on his announcements online.
This class is hard, and you need to study, study, study! But he is a good teacher and tries to help. He WILL NOT do anything for you, but he will tell you what you need to do to get a good grade. Take him if you really want to learn.
I almost took Bru because she's the "easy teacher" but I'm doing great in Ravine. We've only had two tests so far but ive got 96 on both. Just study the POWERPOINTS!!!! forget about the book or class. Just SLIDES& FIGURES!! & study them througout the week not just the night before. He's really funny too in a strange kinda way
Well, the class is hard but you can make it if you study. Be positive! He is not that hard.
Okay yall, Ravine is not nearly as impossible as people say. If you REALLY listen to pretty much every word he says, you'll have success. he loves to throw in an inside joke for the most important concepts, for ex. WHODABOSS was the hypothalamus all semester. If you missed that the first time you'd be lost at times. He prepares you well. LISTEN.
Dr. Ravine is a good instructor. He's quite knowlegable in human A&P. He's not difficult....pretty much follows the textbook. He tries to help his students when he can and when they come to him for help.
He is a nice guy but it seems like he wants to joke more than teach some days. Dont buy the book his test are straight from the slides. His test are hard because of the information you HAVE to memorize!
This class requires alot of your time. He is hard to understand so be ready to teach yourself! He will answer questions the best he can but honestly he is so smart that it is hard for him to get his point across in "easy" terms to understand. I ended up with a C and that is with studying weeks before tests.
This is not your typical 100 level course. There is alot of information to digest for exams.Dr. Ravine is extremly knowlegable and tries to translate complex ideas into plain terms with a little humor mixed in. He prepares you for future medical related endevors. Highly recommended. Study the SLIDES
Ok, I had Bru for A&P 1, and she was so much more helpful than him but he's not impossible. I'm only re-taking his class because I don't want a C. he's not impossible.. Just study the slides!! You'll do just fine.
Attended every class, read assignments, and studied for days for 1st exam. Got a 78. Didn't attend class or read any out of the book and studied half the time for 2nd exam. Got a 94. Just look at his class like an on line course bc he can't teach a lick.
Dr. Hannibal Lectere! He will make you or break you! This is a no BS A&P class, you will be well prepared for future classes by taking this class. Its not for the wimpy, you will need to study, grade boosting extra credit. Take him if you wanna be something and have chutzpah!
The best! This is a real teacher, and a real class. You will learn, dont be lazy and try to fly under the radar. This dude knows his shtuff, hes a great teacher!
If you want to learn the material. Take ravine. He's tough, but in the long run you'll be better off.
Dr Ravine is a good teacher, but u most know your stuffs to pass his class. Most of his questions comes from his slides, but this doesn't mean that you could read his slides and understand it to be able to answer exam questions. Read the textbook and get the idea, then concentrate on the slides before exams. His exam questions are tough, tie ur belt.
Dr. Ravine is a very hard tester. Memorize the slides in depth and you will make an A. Also, if he sees that you work hard and really put forth an effort he will give you the benefit of the doubt. He let me make up an assignment at the end of the semester that I had missed, thus pushing me from an 89 to a 90.
He is a very hard teacher. I have never made below a B in my college career until him. He is extremely difficult and he does not care.
Ravine is a great teacher the only reason people do bad in his class is because they don't come to class, they don't study, or they don't listen to his lectures. He is extremely helpful, yes he is a bit blunt and can come of as very rude but it is due to the fact that he is very intelligent. This is college people you have to study or you fail.
went to the first lecture, and the 4 exam days throughout the class. used slides and book to study and come out with a B. teacher is irrelevant.
You get 4 test, 3 exams and a final. The first test is the easiest! He will give you a study guide and sample questions. PLEASE PRACTICE SWITCHING THOSE UP like he'll instruct. They're all mostly on the test. Lab is only like once a month. DO NOT MISS IT! EASY A QUIZ ONLINE AFTERWARD. He will give a grade booster, worth 3 point on your final grade!
He's very straightforward. The tests are based solely on if you're prepared. It's a tough class, but he's a great teacher. If you are prepared enough for the exams, they're a cakewalk. (I'm talking several days of studying)
Very confusing teacher. I understood the material better reading it myself without him teaching it. I waited till the last minute to study for his exams so I would advise studying a little every day.
Enjoyed Ravine's class very much. He is extremely knowledgeable and will answer any question you have, in depth. He explains difficult concepts in a way that everyone can understand. Tests are difficult, but doable if you answer the questions on the study guide he gives out.
as if this class isn't confusing enough, ravine only makes is worse. i tried going to class and listening to his lectures, but he lost me everytime. i ended up just not going to class and learning everything from the powerpoints and online assignments. was very disappointed he was teaching BMD 115 and Bru wasn't
Okay, Dr. Ravine is a great, smart professor, but he shouldn't be teaching this low level class. It felt like a graduate class where he expected us to know everything. His lectures were hard to follow, but he did well at them. Buy the book and read the chapters. Best way to study for him. Also, do the extra credit!! It can make a difference.
Much harder tests than Anatomy 1. Same style though, and notes and online work were also the same style. It's not hard material, it's just SO MUCH memorization. It takes up a LOT of your time, but you have to do it if you want a good grade! I'd wait until you are ready for the test before you complete the online work, 100s on those can really help!
Memorize the slides (about 120 per test, they're not that detailed either) and I GUARANTEE you'll get an A (if you do homework, too). I didn't attend class all semester and did NOT purchase the book. His tests come directly from the slides and study figures that he posts well in advance. Anyone who fails this class didn't even TRY to pass. Easy A.
He's a very tough teacher and somewhat hard to keep up with. You have to read the powerpoint slides before class just to understand what he is saying. He's a great person, but tough as a teacher.
I found his lectures entertaining. He does monologues and also impressions to demonstrate concepts. The test material can bog you down if you wait till the last minute to study. Slides and study figures are where to go. Hardly ever used the book.
I stopped attending this class after the second exam. He gives 3 exams and a final. There is also homework for each chapter. STUDY THE SLIDES WORD FOR WORD, and you will make A's on all his test. It is like learning a foreign language, but it is needed for the medical world. Not hard to make ...A Just had to work for it.
Everything comes down to the Exams. Which are extremely difficult, the study guide helps very little. Memorization is key.
Dr. Ravine is one of the best teachers that I have ever had the chance to take! I have had him for BMD 115 & 210 & his teaching method is VERY ORGANIZED, which any student would appreciate. He uses powerpoints that go in the order of the book, which is extremely helpful in breaking down the information. He gives student numerous tools to succeed!
Honestly, Dr. Ravine's BMD class was easy and the tests were too. If you study the powerpoints that he assigns to you (yes there are a lot of slides) and you memorize the information, you should easily make an A on ever exam. I ended his class with a 102 and I only read the power points and did the study guides. Only need online book (save money)
Dr. Ravine is not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. Memorize the slides and study figures for the test and do the online homework and you will come out with an A. You do have to put in the work studying and memorizing those slides though.
Good guy, really knows what he's talking about. He's a little out there so it takes some getting used to. Tests are hard, study and memorize all the powerpoints and you'll do fine. It's a lot of information stuffed into one semester.
The exams are basically all that is counted as a grade- 80% of your grade. Homework is graded, but doesn't outweigh the exams at all. The exams are very difficult and basically come from just memorizing the slides. His personality/sense of humor is odd. It was a lot of info packed into one semester. He teaches very quickly and its hard to keep up.
Very challenging! Loved his personality.
Dr. Ravine was very nice and cares about his students, but his lectures are almost worthless. He just reads from powerpoints. His tests and final exam count for 80% of the class, which is ridiculous. Thank God he gives bonus. This class is all memorization and is very difficult. Study hard, and maybe you'll make a C.
This class is difficult but if you read the slides you will do just fine! His lectures are sometimes hard to follow because he rambles but he gives real life experiences. Come to class and pay attention you will pass! Overall great teacher.
Dr. Ravine is a tough professor, but if you truly pay attention you will be able to make a good grade. Exams are worth 80% of your grade so there is no room for big mistakes. Homework and quizzes are super easy.
LOVED HIS CLASS!!!!! His power points are very organized and helpful. If you study those thoroughly you will pass. This class may take a lot of effort, but its college!!
Attendance is not required except for the days you have lab. His lectures are useless because he goes off on tangents and you dont know what hes talking about, he also mumbles and you cant understand him. He basically just lectures from his powerpoints. Didnt attend class, just used his study guides to study.
You can tell Dr. Ravine is really enthusiastic about what he does. Lectures are a little difficult to follow along. Most of your grade comes from the 3 exams and the final. The best way to do well in this class is to read the book and teach yourself before lecture. He does post a lengthy study that can be useful as well. Have to put in the effort.
Dr. Ravine is an interesting professor. You would definitely have to sit in the front in order to hear him. Does take attendance but doesn't count towards your grades so you can really just skip and only show up on lab day. His exams are pretty tough: 50 questions, 2 figures to label. Prepare to teach yourself or bear through class.
Ravine's lectures were boring and he read straight from the powerpoint. His tests weren't very difficult and he offered extra credit for each test. He isn't necessarily hard. His lectures just weren't very engaging or interesting. You're better off just teaching yourself
This class is ridiculous. The guy does nothing but read from powerpoints. All the assignments are easy. However the tests are extremely difficult. The average grades are always around 70 for an exam. Considering that exams count for most of your grade it is ridiculous. Dont take him if you can help it
Ravine talks to hear himself talk. I really couldn't keep up with what his goal really was he would get so off-topic about his personal life. I really relied on quizlets to study a week in advance, his test was on paper. No drop grades only extra credit.
Mr. Ravine is a great professor. A&P isn't an easy course, but if you try, you will definitely do well in the class. Attendance is only required on clinical days. His lectures tend to be all over the place, so be prepared to use the PowerPoints to teach yourself. He gives a lot of extra credit!
Be prepared to teach yourself!
Dr Ravine is a good professor, he gives extra credit opportunities, no drop grades on the exams, and if you study the PowerPoints it is mainly the test.
I enjoy Dr. Ravine, his exams are very difficult but using his power points to study and understanding all of the material made it doable. He has a lot of energy and class was enjoyable.
Ravine prepares you for health careers- wants you to really know the information and adapt your study habits to succeed. Online homework is often irrelevant to lecture topics but is fairly simple. Tests demand crucial memorization and attention to detail, fairly difficult. He does offer decent bonus, friendly and approachable, and willing to help.
A&P is a hard class, but Dr. Ravine does everything in his power to make sure you pass. He offers 10 bonus points after each exam, and adds 6 points to your overall grade at the end if you complete the assignments. His lectures were hard to follow. I never went to class; just study the powerpoints & you will do well in his class.
Lots of memorization, but use quizlet to help you study!! There multiple already made!! I made 90's when I studied those, yes there over 300 flashcards, but if you want to succeed you know what to do. Ravine encourages his students to keep going!! BEST BMD PROFESSOR!!
Dr. Ravine's BMD252 class is challenging, but the bonus points and extra credit opportunities make it manageable. Studying the PowerPoints is key, and Unstuck ai can be a helpful study tool alongside other resources.
Very knowledgeable, caring, and wants every student to succeed. Likes engaged students and don't just see his class as a check off a box. That said, I found microbiology to be a difficult course. Lots of memorization - study a week in advance and can get A. 10 easy bonus pts/exam. He also talks a lot so be prepared if you go to office hours lol.
Not the WORST (low bar), but not good. Exams are 80% of the grade; the rest is many low-point assignments. Difficult exams, tutor help available. Poor, disrespectful communication and message SPAM. Scattered materials. Grades only via Pearson (no Canvas grades). Overly strict Lockdown checks. Syllabus changes mid-semester. Prepare for frustration.
By far the rudest professor I've ever had. The lab was fairly easy compared to the rest of the classwork. Used lockdown browser to its fullest potential, and sometimes it was wrong. If you have an excuse, don't bother to email him because he won't write back.
This was by far the worst professor I've had at South. I took him this past semester for BMD252. He is extremely rude, hates talking about grades, doesn't respond back to your emails and if he does it's something rude. This professor does not care about the wellbeing of the students quite honestly. Save yourself the stress & don't choose him!
