I really liked her. Nice, funny, interesting. Not too hard. Recommend!
Yes, I really like her class.
The class was pretty easy but she is very rude and unorganized with her material. You can tell that she hates the class as much as half the students in there because she's always checking the her phone for the time. The class altogether was easy, but it would have been a lot more enjoyable if I had chosen a different teacher.
Plain and simple: you do not want to deal with this professor. She is rude, very particular, and condescending. I am not saying it is impossible to get a decent grade in her class, I just never looked forward to her/her lectures. (what to expect in this class: 2 papers, 1 presentation, & ATTENDANCE - in class assignments occasionally**)
not a hard class, little h/w
Please, this teacher is fun, laid back and easy. I learned a lot. I'll recommend her.
Terri Birch is like a vampire sent to suck the fun out of art. She is very condescending and seeks conflict wherever she can find it. She is not fun and hates to have her worldview challenged. Her class is very easy as most 100 level humanities classes are. However you shouldn't expect to have your interests in art heightened by this professor.
Best class ever, very easy and fun. The teacher was nice, easy to understand, and didn't greate too hard. Take her, she's funny
Rude, unclear on her definitions, and grades her papers more harshly than my honors English teacher. Condescending, and makes it clear she doesn't like her students. She wasn't prepared for class most of the time. I was looking forward to this class but she ruined my interest in the subject.
We like her shes nice and the class is kindafun
BEST EVER. She's nice and knows this stuff. A little hard on papers, but she makes up for it.
Class was fun, made a collage, lots of stuff to do in class not all lecuture. Had three tests, last one was hard,. Made a project, easy grade.
Worse instructor ever. Never comes to class prepare, always brings wrong curriculum to class. Excessively rude and cruel. Doesn't answer questions in or out of class.
Rude, constantly going off topic, not prepare for class lecture. PLEASE RUN DO NOT WALK TO ANOTHER INSTRUCTOR
Most unorganized teacher I've ever had. She kept cutting out entire chapters we were supposed to learn because she couldn't stay on task. She does give out note sheets, but things were always missing and she'd skip around, so everything became confusing. Before midterm: one test. After mid term, two tests, research paper, and project. No homework.
This teacher was awful. I lost my 4.0 GPA over this class, & I only have one semester left to complete my Associates. She does not communicate. She makes so many typing errors is very confusing in an online course. She is rude, defensive, and condescending. She makes you feel stupid. DO NOT TAKE HER - even if she is your only option.
She is very rude an arrogant. She drinks while preparing her notes, which results in very unclear notes. She always rambles off on rabbit trails. She's a very harsh grader, and thanks to her this class had a negative impact on my GPA. Do NOT take her!
Extremely rude to her students. Arrogant. Rambles on about anything that comes to her mind. She cannot spell to save her life & test and notes are always confusing to put together. Tough grader for no reason. All she ever says about a piece of art is "i just like it, it's very cool".
Terrible communication. Always missing material. Never has a schedule for the lectures. She's out to get you in the class, so no matter what you do, you're "wrong". The whole class is miserable, which is such a shame because there is so much potential with an Art Appreciation class. If you want to enjoy Art, please, don't take this class!
Very unorganized, tough grader, can be condescending and defensive.
Art History. She is very unorganized, goes off topic, will call you out in front of the whole class. Doesnt show students respect. Her guided notes are not helpful and all the information isnt on them. Her notes do NOT help you for her test. You literally sit in class listening to her talk the whole hour and 15mins while you sit and take notes.
Professor Birch is very stern. She did not give us a lot of work but when she did she was a very tough grader. Shes very unorganized and tends to get off topic quickly. Shell talk to us about her personal life but when we talk she tells us to shut up. I do not recommend taking her class.
At first, I thought she was a kind teacher. However, towards the end of the semester, she began to be condescending to those who didn't know how to do something. She has a bit of an attitude problem.
Literally the worst teacher I have ever had. I hated her class, and I actually tried hard and she never gave me the grade that I deserved. Very rude, calls people out, and tells us to not "poke the bear" talking about her and telling us to not give her attitude when she gives the whole class attitude. If you are looking to take her class DO NOT!
This instructor definitely has an attitude and an ego problem. It seems her grading criteria are made up on the spot. Assignments from one student to the next rarely follow a standard rubric. She is very unorganized and patronizing and expects her students to be perfect. If you take this professor, you are in for a frustrating semester.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. Youre not allowed to go to the bathroom during class. She gets off topic super quick and is always complaining about someone or something. The only positive thing about this class is that she did not make us buy the book but otherwise she is extremely rude and condescending. DO NOT TAKE ART115 WITH HER.
Listen to the reviews for this teacher and run away. I took this class just to get my fine arts credit and it was awful. She made me redo an assignment multiple times, giving me new instructions each time and if you emailed her a question she wouldnt answer. This teacher does not care about your success and only wants to get paid.
This online class isn't hard but Birch makes it so. She's unhelpful, uncaring, and always has negative feedback. During this COVID-19 pandemic, the dean sent an email that all classes were cancelled from 03/16/20-03/29/20 but she refused to extend due dates until then. Tried emailing her and she was extremely rude. DON'T TAKE HER!!
The worst teacher I have had at ECC. I had her for history of photography and she was beyond disrespectful. Don't try to expect any pity from her, even though she expects pity from her students when she complains 24/7. She does not trust her students no matter how bad the situation is in the student's life. Do not take her if you don't have to.
Rude, unprofessional, and overall just an awful person. Worst teacher I've ever had at ECC. Unfortunately I had to learn this the hard way after she gave me a D, even after getting As on all my assignments.
My SUMMER sem experience: Ms. Birch is a teacher I would pass up on, and if you don't get ready for: -tough grading on papers. -she posts nothing on weekly modules but emails the class once a week with sometimes incorrect due dates or incorrect information. -non-cumulative final but mine wasn't even graded yet my final grade was in accessECC.
Don't try and email her or ask questions. Very rude and not very understanding.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Very unsupportive of her students and is highly disrespectful. It's her way or the highway and is very rude towards her students. Notes are unorganized and hard to follow. If your idea or vision doesn't match hers, don't expect her to like it or to agree with you. Highly recommend any other teacher.
Worst professor at ECC
Every time I had to go in her class I wanted to skip so badly, but if you skip even once she'll get mad. If you didn't show your face in Zoom, she'll riot. She grades tough for no reason.
DO NOT take this class with this prof. She is very rude towards her students, doesn't care about them, and for an art class, is a tough grader. She likes to only talk about herself and complained about everything. She's out to get you no matter how hard you try. Please take any other prof. besides her and if you can't TAKE ANOTHER CLASS.
This professor projects her unhappiness onto everyone around her. She tries to embarrass students who come in late, and will cut you off when trying to speak. She is never prepared for class, opens the wrong PowerPoints often, talks about herself and politics the whole period, and made me cry when I took her. Im not a softie either. Do not take her
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!! Non western art seems like a fun course and I bet it is. But she has the worst grading system ever and tests you on stuff you never even learned. She made us write a 4 page essay and lowered my grade for having 4 pages. If there are any other professors please choose them instead of Birch!!!!!!!
Ms. Birch seemed to take her emotions out on us and her emails written to us. Her tests and most of the work she would give us would have errors, ranging from grammatical or informational. I love art and have passion in it, but this class drains the fun of it. This was my elective class, yet it was more difficult than my pre-reqs.
I don't have much to add that others have not already said. Going into the class, I wanted to give Ms. Birch a chance to prove all the reviews I read wrong. However, she proved everyone right with flying colors. The way she sets up the class is incredibly convoluted and frustrating. DO NOT take her classes unless you have ABSOLUTELY NO CHOICE!
She does not want to be bothered. She writes in Incomplete sentences. Yet, she will deduct points of you miss a period at the end of a sentence. She is very unclear with directions. She is not approachable. She is condescending.
Professor is very unclear and will give last-minute changes to her assignments. Very rude when you answer wrong
Taking this class was not hard. After transitioning from the military and starting school I would say it was not too bad. I did take the online course and ended up passing with an A. Put in the time and effort and you'll get what you deserve. I'd take her class again but in person this time.
She made multiple grammatical errors and spelling errors even on tests. She is very harsh grader; she docks points if you don't understand. In my case she took hours to respond to my email and made it seem like I partnered with other students to create the excuse. Her emails back seem like we're bothering her. Pick a different professor if you can!
The worst professor I've ever had. She has no idea how to run an online course. You need to hunt down where to find out when assignments are due and how to do them, assignments aren't added until just a few days before they're due. The professor is very rude and condescending to students. Ms. Birch is clearly very upset with her life. Stay away.
it was an easy class, didn't even have to email her at all
We did lots of stuff in class so it was fun. Better to go to class for these, test were so easy.
Taking a summer class of eight weeks on Art Appreciation should be easy, it wasn't. She wanted a paper that was NOT an analysis, NOT a biography, but the paper was supposed to compare two pieces of art. BY DEFINITION a comparison paper is an analysis. Directions so unclear and seemed disinterested in helping her students. Save your money with her.
Professor Birch is an erratic instructor who offers little instruction, off-topic feedback, and an attitude problem. While she seems to know her art history, she does not seem to enjoy teaching. She gets annoyed easily when you email to ask questions about assignments or grades. She takes points off for things she refuses to explain. Avoid her.
I had the summer art appreciation, it was quick and easy. We did do a comparison paper, and a short analysis. She responded to my email quickly and was nice.
This teacher is by far the worst teacher I've had at ECC. She's very rude when you email and ask for direction. VERY unorganized which will hurt your grade. And seems to hate life. Would not recommend this teacher at all.
Terrible professor got 80's-90's in all of my quizzes, papers, and basically everything else, only for my final grade to be a D because I missed one assignment that for some reason was worth 20-25% of the grade. reluctant to let people make it up snarky and rude in her emails overall just a terrible experience. barely gave me a C despite earning B.
I took Art History with her in 2019 and Terry Birch is not a good teacher. After 4 years of college, she was the worst teacher I've had. She consistently called out good students and embarrassed them in-front of the class. She often acts rude and condescendingly. I strongly do not think she deserves to be a teacher at ECC.
She was a good professor. If you do the work and come to class you are fine. She's nice, and genuinely cares about you. I'm not sure why the other reviews are so negative, but she's always been nice when I see her. I did the class in person and we did fill in the blank notes and some group projects.
She is STRICT and RUDE. She was having technical issues where I did not have access to quiz prior to the due date because the dates were wrong and it said my quiz was overdue, she claimed no one else had issues, when I went back to check after I emailed her about it; it stated it was EDITED, she did not apologize or let me know that she changed it.
I had her in person for Art Appreciation at Elgin Community College. This class was very interesting and I've learned a lot. I am not sure why her reviews are so bad. If you go to class, do the work, and participate, you will get an A. Terri cares about the well-being of her students- she asks how you are and treats you like a human.
She is very rude and very tough on grading. There is no chill with her at all. I would have thought the assignments she assigned would have been easy but she made them more difficult than they had to be.
Took art appreciation, best class. We did lots of stuff in class, easy grader. She's lets us talk.
This is one of my favorite teachers. Had her Art class on campus and her online, she was nice. Class was fun, online not too much work.
Fill in notes, only two easy tests, class was fun
She's not cut out for online classes. She has little to no understanding of D2L or how to organize grades. She's very helpful over email and during office hours, however. Take her in person; it will be a much better experience. She's clear on what she wants from students. The papers/discussion boards are difficult to write at times. NO LATE WORK!
This professor is very helpful with office hours and through email, however, she gets off topic a lot during lectures. Other than that, this class was very interesting and fun.
SHe knows a lot about art. Lots of in class stuff which made it fun. Only two easy. Fun.
She was nice, easy tests, got an a of project
So nice, knows a lot about this, made it interesting.
Interesting class, she knows her art. Helpful
short tests, paper and project
You don't have to buy a book, post to discussion board, activity and short quiz every week. Gave us a grade for filling out a survey telling her what we liked and didn't. Emailed us every week.
She gave us the readings, quiz every week, with a discussion and another little post. She was nice in her emails.
Heard she was getting bad reviews, don't understand it. Great class, lots of in class stuff. Easy grading
Heard she was getting bad reviews. It was a great class, don't believe the others Easy a. She does post a book to buy you won't need it
I liked her, fun class. Know alot about at
I don't get it, she's nice, easy
Funny and caring! She 110% knows her stuff and teaches the course so well! Wanted us to decide how often we wanted quizzes, and what we liked best.
Funny and caring! She 110% knows her stuff and teaches the course so well! Wanted us to decide how often we wanted quizzes, and what we liked best.
She gives you the readings. One paper, very nice
Like her! Interesting class, nice emails. She's helped me.
Very forgiving, dropped one of my assignments and drops one quiz
Pretty easy, clear, little assignments. Answered emails quick.
She was pretty nice, let me rewrite my paper when I did it wrong. You can't go wrong with her.
Nice, easy quizzes, project, paper, pretty smooth
This class was fun, she's funny. Lots of stuff to do in class. Dropped a test and gave us a grade for a test when we didn't have to take it. Recommend!
Lots of stuff to do in class made it fun. Some lectures, but cool. she gives you notes and gives you grades if you turn them in.
This class was difficult since there's no clear grading guidelines and art being subjective to everyone. Also, she consistently ranted about political topics at the beginning of every class which had gotten to be very annoying. So much so that eventually people stopped showing up at one point. I recommend finding another arts class or teacher.
We just got our grades and I got an A! My first college class. It was fun, lots of stuff in class, short quizzes and a paper. I liked that she gave us a break on the last quiz us we ran out of time and dropped a quiz, that helped a lot.
Went on tangents unrelated to class, was always unorganized & is very condecending
Had art appreciation. I liked this a lot, we did a bunch of stuff in class, not much homework, just a couple of posts on d2l paper and quote. Work was on easy side, didn't buy book. I liked her she made me feel good.
