i hate the professor... horrible teaching horrible instruction
Terrible teacher. Questions were overly difficult and wordy. Homework system was sub-par compared to CAPA, and the book was awful. I had an A on the exact same material least year and I almost failed this class. I can't wait for her to ruin integrals too. Take Butler's class if you can.
I feel like if she wasn't teaching the way she was, I would have done much worse. She gives you plenty of opportunities for points and extra credit. Advice: just do everything that you're supposed to do, and you'll do fine in the class. It's a lot of work, but it all pays off in the end! Office hours and SI sessions are extremely helpful. =]
I thought she was an overall good teacher. Sometimes a little too excited for math though. She kept class interesting and I found her humor funny in a weird sense. I enjoyed the class overall.
Terrible teacher. I had the material last year and still did not do as well in her class as I would have liked. She can't teach the material well, and then the quizzes and tests are impossible. Avoid her if at all possible.
She's helpful if you have time to go to her office once a week, but otherwise the tests are hard, the homework not very helpful. Avoid.
She's pretty difficult, but very good at helping people during office hours.
Terri is a great professor- always willing to help and talk you through homework assignments during office hours. Her method of lecturing is very straightforward. Her lectures, quizzes, and tests are fairly consistent- once you figure out what she expects, her class should be a fairly easy A with a little effort.
Transfer out of her class if possible. It's not worth taking if it's with her.
Awful teacher, if can avoid taking this class, do so.
Terri is really helpful and straight forward. You know what's going to be on the exam and quizzes. There are also lots of practice and example problems.
Don't take MATH 125 with her. Could not learn a thing. Our class average was a C-. Most people end up dropping it because she doesn't teach well. SI's didn't help. Boring class.
Its managable if youre stuck in it. make sure to do the non-required book problems that was my mistake. Awful class avoid at all costs.
Terri is great. You don't have to use the book; just do the practice problems she passes out along with the weekly 5 question homework and you're good to go because she just recycles them on tests, only with different numbers. Really bubbly and helpful during office hours.Chances are, you hate the subject, not Terri herself.
a decent professor, although her jokes can get annoying. Not a terrible class overall.
Professor is incredibly condescending and treats students like children. She points out the obvious and makes cheerful snide comments. It is very unappreciated. I have already taken calculus and was placed into pre-calc by mistake. Just because we are not a calculus class does not mean that we are stupid and useless.
Terrible Terrible teacher....
Please don't take her class... Oh MY GOD...
Class is boring, SIs can be the lifesavers. Do the homework and learn on your own.
Contenza is really condescending, but she's also really helpful. Do all the homework and you'll do well on the quizzes. The tests are hit-or-miss, but she's very fair - if the class average is low on a test, she gives extra credit problems to help increase grades. Go to her office hours, too. The only thing she didn't teach well were Taylor Series
Do not take this take this teacher. Terrible teacher with very corny jokes. SI's are better at teaching material than she is. Goes too fast on the board. By the time you write down notes she is moving on to next topic. Quizzes are fair, but tests are extremely difficult. Questions do not reflect what was covered in class.
I think Terri is an amazing teacher and is very organized. She tells you everything you need to know for tests and quizzes. If you do all of the online HW problems and go to class you be be fine for quizzes. For tests all you need to do is look at the review material she puts up and you'll do fine.
Contenza is a very poor teacher. The actual tests were harder than the review materials, and she moves very fast through concepts. Unfortunately, there are not many other options in terms of alternative teachers. I have to say I learned more from my high school teacher than I learned from her.
Awful teacher. She went through concepts entirely too fast. She did not take her time teaching the subject-instead she went fast as to hurry up and get the subject matter out of the way. The material on the homework and review and the material on the exams didn't add up. Avoid this class at all costs. For your own sake and sanity.
people tend to blame teri for their won laziness and/or ineptitude. if you don't do well in the class chances are you're either bad at math or just didn't go to lecture. she explains the content quite clearly. she doesn't go to fast. she is a little annoying but she is a fine teacher. listening to people whine about teri irritates me to no end.
This class was awful. She goes too fast and even in office hours she is not helpful. Half of the material she speeds through in class is more difficult on the exams. Avoid if you can; unfortunately there are not many other options.
Once you get used to the class it's not that bad. I do admit that lectures can be tedious and she does skip some of the algebra, but overall it is clear. She holds plenty of office hours and will help if you ask. Homeworks usually match the quiz, but definitely go to SI sessions. Don't bother with book problems unless you need extra practice.
Have to teach yourself the material. She skips over much of the algebra that is necessary for problems. The homework problems are confusing sometimes. Avoid if possible.
Btoth 125 and 126 are extremely difficult. I felt like she skipped a lot of the steps, which makes it a lot harder for those who aren't as good at math. No matter how hard I worked, I found it impossible to get above a C on an exam. She is also no help in office hours; I could never get her to not skip steps or explain in a different way.
Just awful. Quizzes weren't bad, but thats just about the only saving grace for your grade. Homework is designed for you to do poorly on: its all on the computer and if you don't input it exactly the way she wants (which she doesn't say what is), you simply get it wrong, no partial credit, even if your answer wasn't correct. Tests are also awful.
best teacher ever! office hour are super helpful! of course you need to work hard on your own first;)
I hate math and I'm not good at it, but she made everything crystal clear and I finally understood things! This class is great if you struggle in math.
This instructor is pretty much full of BS. She is not helpful and disrespects the students. 5 out of the 6 SIs in this class are pretty much crap. My SI walked into the recitation one time stating boldly that he knows NOTHING of the material that was supposed to be covered that day.
Contenza doesn't teach very well, and she is very monotonous, making learning an already bland subject even more painful. I learned more from the SIs and mathematically-inclined friends more than I ever did from Terri.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She is the worst teacher I have ever encountered and or heard of. Wait till spring semester and take 125 with another professor.
Honestly one of the worst teachers ever! Her homework is ridiculous. She is rude and useless when you ask for help and she has no desire to make the class interactive. Absolutely aweful.
Terri's class is hardish if you're not a math person. But if you go to SIs, do suggested hws, and get help in office hours, you'll do well. Plus she gives you a review and old test for every test AND the final so you have everything.
Terri Contenza is probably the worst professor I've ever had. The class itself is not very difficult, I received an A in 125 and 126. But Terri is extremely annoying and makes going to class a pain. She is not very helpful at her office hours. The homework assignments can be unnecessarily difficult. Overall, this class just sucks.
Terri is NOT a bad professor. People get mad because for most people, you have to work hard in this class to get an A. But she is so clear, insanely organized, makes studying very easy. Office hours/email are helpful (she has candy!)She gives tons of reviews out, and most people who do bad just dont wanna work. Do practice probs adn go to SI.
Terri is an excellent math professor and one of my favorite professors at Case. Math doesn't come naturally to me but Terri makes the material very clear and I was amazed at how much I enjoyed math by the end of the class. She is overall a very good professor and has a quirky sense of humor, which lightens up the material.
I really did not enjoy this class. Contenza can be very bland at times. Honestly the saving grace of this class is the SI Dustin Likens. He is the only reason I got a B, so I would suggest him as your SI if you take this class.
Professor Contenza is awesome. She has a good sense of humor, which keeps the class interesting. Her notes are VERY clear, well organized and easy to look back on and understand. Lots of practice and resources if you need help, plus optional graded homework and quizzes give you a chance to improve your grade.
No need to go to class, just get notes from your friend and study. Her graded hw is hard, but crucial for the quiz and the test. The SIs are the best. She is just a lecturer, not a teacher.
Homework online is all or nothing, no partial credit which is very annoying. Textbook homework is optional. Kind of rude when helping you
Terri is great! Is this course hard? Maybe? Is she helpful, definitely! She maintain a fast teaching pace, while keeping enough details we need to know from the book. In the way she teach a thick book becomes much easier to be digested.
Her teaching style is all through examples - she gives you lots of examples every class and expects you to learn the material. Which if you can learn that way great, but I can't. Her tests are hard. I had several friends drop the class. I won't say it's bad, but it was bad for me.
Terri is really nice. Her class is clear. Taking notes is important which is just copy her notes. You need to go to almost every class to get an A.
She is a pretty nice lady. She isnt the most helpful and also makes you feel dumb when you ask questions. Tests are HARD and even though she gives lots of practice material, she words questions oddly. The SIs are basically the saving grace to that class (if you are lucky to get a good one that is)
You basically have to take her class if you are taking MATH125 or MATH126 and she's really not that bad, the more work you do outside of class the better though.
You basically have to take her class if you are taking MATH125 or MATH126 and she's really not that bad, the more work you do outside of class the better though. The SI session are very helpful and if you aren't great at math I'd recommend meeting with a tutor pretty often to prepare for tests and Tuesday quizzes.
Professor Contenza is a very pleasant teacher. Her lectures are clear and to the point. If you're struggling, come see her for help. She is very kind and open to helping you solve any math problems during office hours. You can pass her class if you do her suggested homework and attend her lectures. She made college calculus a painless experience.
Very organized and taught material clearly. No homework, but gives a lot of optional practice problems and practice tests for you to do, which was very helpful in preparing for tests. Lots of office hours and lots of SI hours so lots of opportunity for extra help.
Great professor. Very knowledgeable and clear communication of concepts.
Terry is good at breaking down concepts. She very clearly writes notes out on the overhead for you to follow along in class, which was very helpful. Her lectures aren't super exciting but she made up for it in clarity.
She is terrible as a lecturer. Her tone is plain, and the class is extremely boring. Don't take her.
Terri is an amazing professor! Her lectures are very clear and she handwrites all of the notes so that students can follow along easily. It's important to go to lecture, but not much work is required outside of class. Before each exam she posts 3 past exams. Basically just study those because the test will be an exact replica.
Great professor
Terri is funny and makes herself available all the time to get extra help, but when you go to her 1-on-1 she isn't all that helpful. This could possibly be due to the fact that there are always tons of students that need help and go to her office. She's nice but her instructions on tests can be confusing, and we have to take a quiz every week.
Great professor if you go to her office hours.
Terri is great! Her office hours are wonderful and she makes sure there are plenty of SI sessions! She's also flexible with meeting students if her office hours don't work for the student. She lectures, but adds some interaction to it. Review days with her are a definite no-skip day because she takes your requests!
She is a very good professor who knows the material. She explains things in a step by step manner which makes it really easy to follow along and understand. It is easy to get an A in the class as long as you put in effort to practice the material OUTSIDE OF CLASS!!!!!!(usually with textbook practice problems) also do the canvas practice sheets!!!
She explains the material very clearly and is helpful in answering peoples' questions. The tests and homework are properly tied to what is talked about in class.
No surprises on Exams.
Terri is hands-down my favorite professor. She explains things step-by-step and does several examples in class. She is very accessible, and her office hours are helpful and fun. Her tests can be difficult and complex, but if pay attention in lecture, study notes, do the homework and practice worksheets, and ask if you have questions, you'll be fine
Terri means well but her lectures are boring and dry. If you think because you took calc in high school it will be an easy A, you're wrong. Tests can be extremely difficult no matter how much you study. People were failing so the 3rd test had to be dumbed down just so the average would go up.
She teaches almost entirely through examples, which I found very helpful. If that isn't for you, don't take her. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't go to class you won't get the notes because it isn't on media vision. She is usually very available in office hours. Tests weren't overly hard, and the homework was a reasonable amount.
Terri was a great Teacher! Her lectures are kinda boring but they are very informative. DO YOUR HOMEWORK (it is super helpful on the quizzes!) The quizzes and tests are very hard, she likes to throw a lot of curveballs on them. Attend the SI sessions as often as you can because they are the most helpful! Was not bad, just a lot a work!
This class is not bad if you put in the time. Terri is a good teacher so if you pay attention and just do the homework (or most of it) you should be fine.
Terri is a great professor! The class isn't hard if you use the resources she gives you. For every quiz, she gives suggested textbook problems, as well as one or more worksheets with problems she made up. Her quiz and test questions are similar to the worksheet questions. So, do the homework and worksheets, and you'll be golden.
As long as you pay attention during lectures, you'll do fine. I really liked how she did examples to explain the concepts. Homework is not that bad. As for the tests, just do the practice tests because she gives you similar questions on the actual tests.
I thoroughly enjoyed Terri this semester! You can tell she really cares about her classes. My favorite thing about her as a professor is that she has STRUCTURE in her courses -- which I can't say the same for a lot of other professors at Case. She's easy to talk to and not at all intimidating. Do your homework - it's not much - and you'll get an A.
Terri is one of the best professor at Case. She will write down the notes when lecturing so we have time to write down our notes. She is very nice during her office hour. Her tests are predictable and easy. Do the practice problems before the quiz so that you can score 20/20 on quiz.
Terri is a decent prof. She cares about the teaching and her students. Very helpful and accessible outside the classroom. Do all the old practice test, and review Qs before exams. Do well in the quizzes with practices. Lots of materials to cover and final Ex is long and not easy but doable. Will need hard work to get an A but not impossible.
Terri is a math God. Brilliant lecturer and an absolutely wonderful human. Her class is easy as long as you go to lecture and pay semi-attention
Dr. Contenza presents the material very clearly during the lectures. She also gives you plenty of optional resources to work with (previous year exams or textbook problems) if you need more work with a topic. Grading criteria is very clear, and the test material is very reflective of the content covered in class- very easy A with minimal work.
Terri really cares about her students, and gives a lot of great practice material.
Her class is at a pretty typical difficulty level for a math course, but she makes it very straightforward. Everything is the same difficulty, except for her review packets for tests, which are harder than the tests themselves. Going to class and actually paying attention(ik it's math but do it) makes it a hell of a lot easier
Put in the work and its easy
Absolutely loved my class with Professor Contenza. She is so caring and kind and very quirky. As long as you show effort, she is extremely encouraging. She also makes herself readily available to students during office hours. Highly recommend!
Terri is a great professor! Her lectures are a little bit boring but she hand writes notes and goes over many examples during them. Just make sure to do some of the optional homework, as some types of problems aren't covered in lecture.
So don't skip class, that's how you fail. Most of the ppl who take it have some background in calc. I did. I didn't expect to take probability tho, which is why I got a B- and failed my first midterm. She explains math better than any math teacher I've ever had. Don't skip a recitation, you will get caught. u don't need the textbook.
For the majority of the year, she was great. Class was asynchronous, so all that was provided were recorded lecture videos. I thought they were good and the tests were definitely fair. HOWEVER, the final exam was rather not. For the first, she gave multiple choice questions which I thought wasn't fair since we never prepared for them. Beware.
So the class is weighted and graded on a few thing. Overall, its kinda hard. You can get an A for the whole semester but the final is very very hard. This was online cuz of covid so Im sure some of the fundamentals of this classroom changed. That being said Im not sure if we as a class were prepared for the final. Its difficult.
The final for this online semester was difficult, and the classes throughout the semester did not prepare us for multiple choice (all quizzes and midterms were free response).
The class did not prepare us well for the final, which was extremely difficult. You can maintain an A for the whole semester and still bomb the final, but maybe that's because it was online. Either way, this class gave me a headache.
If you took calc in high school, you will be fine. Don't get behind, and go to office hours if you have a question. The homework and reviews are the same as quizzes and tests, so don't cram and you will do great. Try your best to actually learn the material or the final will be super hard. Overall a low effort class until you don't get something.
Solid class.
The class wasn't really hard but she refuses to work with students and assist with problems. I submitted a page incorrectly online because of the process of submission and she would not let me make it up. This resulted in a massive deduction of 5 points from my final grade. She also would not allow students with real reasons to make up quizzes.
Extremely inconsiderate to students who cannot make it to a quiz/exam. Lectures are alright, but oftentimes do not prepare you enough for the homework. The final is very tough, even if you took calc in high school. If you're gonna take these courses, especially MATH126, be ready.
Extremely rude to students over email. Was extremely sick and asked if I could attend online recitation but she instead forced me to go to in person IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC!!! Also maintained an A the whole semester and got completely screwed by the final which was not at all like previous years or any of the tests we had taken. Be weary!
I took this course P/NP because it wasn't a requirement for my academic program but needed it as a coreq for PHYS122. Terri is a solid professor. She was organized in remote learning, gave clear lectures, and plenty of practice problems. The final's format was a surprise though, as we couldn't get credit for work shown.
Tests aren't too bad if you do the practice worksheets but the grading for them is very unfair in regards to partial credit. Making one small calculation error will almost always lose you two points (2%) as she considers solving correctly 1 point and the answer its own point. If you always know how to solve the problems for quizzes you'll do fine.
Had terri for 125 and 126 online. Took AP calc in high school so it was mostly review, but the videos went slow enough that you could 2x speed them if you wanted. Lots of quizzes but were very easy, so not a big deal. Tests were pretty easy as well, though the final format sucked, consisting of mostly answer only free response??? In a math class???
Difficult material. Homework is pretty easy but the quizzes and tests are difficult. Not the friendliest professor either, in the few interactions ive had with her she was a bit sassy.
Terri is a good person and nice to talk too. Her class is only consisted of test, quizzes, a final exam and a small chunk of participation. A lot of the topics that are taught aren't clear and you will use a lot of outside sources. You will take a quiz everyday, things taught in lectures are also way easier then what's on quizzes and exams.
Large lecture means attendance is not necessary, and homework is not turned in so it is optional. The textbook is less helpful than the practice quizzes and tests she gives a few days before each exam; just do those, and you can get an A. This was mostly review for me, but she is a very clear instructor and uses lots of examples.
Terri is a great professor and she's a kind and caring person. Definitely go to her office hours and ask lots of questions, do the homework, and attend lecture. That will give you an easy A.
Terri assumes everyone in this class has a strong Calc background (which I did not, and set myself up for failure). She does not offer make up tests or quizzes (even if you're sick which sucks). I hated this class and never missed a single class but still ended up failing. If you're good at math, take it but be sure to go to office hours and SI.
If youve taken calculus before, MATH 125 is an easy A. In the beginning of the semester, the content is not calculus and quite abstract (doing the homework here is essential!), but it gets easier later on. I had done minimal studying for the second and third tests and got amazing grades. Terri provides a lot of help and is very approachable.
Your grade is dependent solely on quizzes and tests. If you attend class, do the homework, and use SI sessions for help, you'll do fine. The first unit was unrelated to calc and kind of confusing at first, but it gets better. Terri is approachable and flexible when it comes to missing quizzes/tests if you communicate. Expect weekly quizzes.
As someone who took calc before college, math 125 still had new topics to learn. Terri keeps the lectures engaging, even when the audience doesn't match her energy. She's also lenient with grading; I asked her to regrade an area I felt I deserved more points in, and she agreed. Finally, practice questions for exams and quizzes are available!
I can't really say she was my favorite professor, but the class was fairly easy. I stopped going to class and still did fine. As long as you go over the questions that she posts as review and the worksheets, you will get an A in this class. There are also a lot of extra help options so use those to your advantage.
Although I had a very hard time in her classes due to me being bad at at calculus, I feel like objectively she was a good professor. She gives a lot of examples in class and thoroughly explains the concepts being taught. Office hours were easy to go to and helped a lot. Make sure you do all of the work that is assigned because the tests are similar
Great professor and educator. Explains concepts with multiple examples. You don't even need to go to class and you'll do fine.
Professor Contenza does a fantastic job of teaching calculus. She lectures well, posts lots of content to practice the topics outside of class, and is extremely accessible outside of class. If you put in the work, you will do fine!
I took MATH 125 and 126 with her in my freshman year and that was one of the best memories I had at Case. I waited for three years for her to teach diffeqs again. She is very inspirational and knows how to teach math. She is very accessible outside of class and is willing to help students to master those materials.
excellent lecturer, her classes are well-paced and easy to follow. She handwrites the notes while teaching and her notes are color-coded and easily understandable. For both 125 and 126, she offers previous exams for practice which are very good to go through before taking tests. There are weekly quizzes worth 15% of your grade. 3 tests + final
3 tests and a final make up 85% of your grade. One bad mess up and your grade is down the drain (I speak from experience). She teaches alright but she treats the students like 5th graders in class and I didn't like it. Overall, she's decent and you'll understand most of what she's teaching you but it's not an easy A like the other math classes.
She is a great professor and teaches the content well, but you do need to put in the work to get an A in this course. Do the homework and worksheets to prepare for quizzes each week and do the reviews and practice using the previous exams she posts and you'll be set for the exams. Go to the lectures so you won't fall behind or be confused.
Terri's lectures are really good and the assigned homework is relevant to the tests. Review sheets always harder than exams. Also she has great office hours and grades both quizzes/tests the next day. Also has a ton of TA's all of which are great. If you attend class and do the practice problems you'll be fine.
Terri had some great lectures. She gave plenty of practice problems and review, along with having good SI's. I was in the hospital and missed a quiz, and she would not let me retake it. You get two drop quizzes at the end of the semester and told me that that quiz would have to be one of my drop quizzes.
Never went to class. Got an A. Nuff said
You take a quiz or test every single Thursday, so sometimes it will feel like a lot, but if you simply do some of the homework problems and do the worksheet that she puts on canvas the quizzes are beyond easy and should be no trouble. Literally if you show up to lecture and do the practice problems you should have no issue. Grading criteria clear.
Terri is a good professor, I would give her sth like 3.7/5. There is a weekly quiz so make sure to do the textbook questions or the worksheet questions which I personally think are tougher than the quiz itself. Now when it comes to exams, these are harder than the quiz but equivalent in difficulty to the review packets and past exams she posts.
Terri is a very helpful professor and willing to go over anything outside class. 125 is not super hard, and goes over some probability and calculus. There are weekly quizzes that can get a little overwhelming but work as a reminder to study. Exams are reasonable, and practice exams are very helpful. A little more than half our class got an A.
Dr. Contenza's class was pretty enjoyable for me. She is super nice and understanding, especially during her office hours. Personally, math isn't really my strong suit and she really helped me throughout the semester. Really hated the weekly quizzes so make sure you study for those and attend class! Some topics she covers aren't in the textbook.
Terri was a great teacher, and Math 125 is not super hard. It does cover calculus and a little bit of probability There are weekly quizzes but it's helpful as a reminder to be consistent and study topics that you may need a little more work on. The exams and final were reasonable, she gives you a lot of resources to help you study.
Great Professor! Her exams greatly resemble her practice problems. Would recommend doing/going over homework questions and exams practice problems.
Super easy class for science and business majors
Took her in my Freshman year (2021). Very lecture heavy but I liked her teaching style. She's very organized, straightforward and accessible outside of class. However, she is not sympathetic towards personal matters. If you get sick or have an emergency, don't expect any accommodations.
Good lectures, if you attend you can definitely get an A. No attendance but I would recommend going as it's a lot easier than reading the textbook. Her tests can be rough though. I've found that her tests and finals tend to unequally focus on certain units, usually the harder later units, which can screw you over if you don't know them well.
If you are willing to go to class and do her worksheets before each quiz and exam, you will do fine. Honestly 125/126 are both easy classes if you put in the work. Very accessible and her style of teaching is understandable. She does not try to trip you up on quizzes and exams.
Great lectures, although attendance isn't required. Her quizzes and tests are very straightforward and are similar to the practice problems she posts.
Terri is amazing and if you're considering switching to the 125/126 track, do not worry she is extremely caring and proficient in being an instructor. The tests and quizzes were very straightforward with most of the material matching lecture and problem pdfs, and the grading was very negotiable in terms of partial credit. Use the resources!!
Terri is honestly such a genuine person. She is a great teacher, that truly wants her kids to succeed. She does not try to trick you with content or work and literally gives you 3 past tests per test you take, on top of tons of review problems that are just from even older tests. Her quizzes are even easier, and are just problems from HW.
The material she covers in class and her provided examples are very much like any quiz or test. She also provides her students with a lot of supplemental material (3 previous exams) to study. I normally did homework in SI and they were able to answer questions well (shoutout Nidhi and Jon!).
Terri is a great professor and wants you to do well in the class. Her grading system is very fair but her tests can be a bit tough because its easy to lose points on simple algebra mistakes, but she posts so many practice tests/worksheets/and reviews as well as optional homework so just practice and you'll be fine.
I barely attended lectures, but still did well in her class because she provided all the materials needed to prep for quizzes. Could have ended with an A if I didn't screw up so badly on the 2nd test, but that was entirely my fault. Quizzes and tests are straightforward, and the times I did attend lecture, they were concise, and useful.
125 is very easy, but 126 has more stuff that will be new to you, and is a lot more fun! Great professor and good lectures!
Contenza is actly one of the greatest profs I have ever had. She literally spoon feeds calc to u, there is so much review before an exam, and she has atleast 20+ hours of office hours per week. If u dont do well in this class, it is because u did not try enough.
The lectures are amazing and extremely engaging. Attendance is not mandatory but should go to class even if you have taken calc before, as it is excellent review. Quiz every week but tons of study material is provided. If you study enough, you are guaranteed a good grade.
Definitely one of the best professors I have ever had. I think if you do the homework and go to lectures, its impossible to get a B in this class. SIs also pretty much tell you how to do quiz questions before the quiz.
Very fair professor and class. She is a great lecturer, straight-to-the-point and clear in teaching concepts. I used to cry in AP calculus, but here, I could understand everything she taught. Attend all lectures and take clear notes on everything. Difficult class but worth the effort you put in. Do all assigned practice problems and talk to SIs.
Terri is the best prof ever. She is extremely accessible outside of class and makes tests very similar to practice exams. She has office hours almost every day and is so sweet.
Most fair tests and quizzes Ive taken all of college. They reflect exactly what she does in lecture and what is on the optional worksheets she posts. She's very clear as to what is on each assessment. She doesnt post her notes and just reading someone elses doesnt always make a ton of sense, so I really recommend going to class but you dont have to
Truly the GOAT of CWRU. Professor Contenza is such a great teacher. She truly cares about all of her students, and literally gives you a couple years worth of previous exams. Furthermore, she teaches all of the concepts in a really straightforward way. It's honestly a skill issue for people that complain about the course difficulty.
Easiest math class ever. God forbid, DO NOT CRAM. It may have saved you in high school but college is different. It is so easy to let work pile up, so space out your studying and this class is light. Terri gives you so many practice exams and forces you to know the information through weekly quizzes. Getting a B tbh is sad.
A great class with great professors. If you can take this class instead of 121 then you should.
Attend all lectures. She is a great teacher and you will learn the material by going to her class and doing the practice problems she provides for each topic. There is also textbook hw for extra practice. Also gives 3 years worth of previous exams to study; highly recommend doing at least 2 of them. If you do all of this, it's easy to get an A.
The textbook is completely useless in my opinion, contrary to my previous rating. Attending lectures is so much more useful, and saves you a lot more time as well. Her quizzes and tests are very straightforward, and as long as you do all the practice worksheets and do the previous tests, you should theoretically be set. Do ALL of them, seriously
My classmate had a SEVERE medical emergency one morning. She was released from the hospital just an hour after the quiz, immediately emailed this professor, and the response was essentially "too bad so sad". She studied for hours in the days leading up to it. Was it so hard to afford her some human decency?? Hope you're happy with yourself lady.
Easy class. Terri can come off as condescending, but she's nice and lectures well. I spend almost no time outside of class on math and have had no issues with the quizzes or exams. Would recommend.
Terri is a great prof and if you go to class and take notes you will understand material. Her class is very well structured and organized, so getting an A is very doable with good work ethic.
Don't fall into the trap of missing lectures. If you practice the past exams, you will be set up to do amazing on the midterms. Though, the final exam was difficult, yet possible.
If you do the "optional" weekly homework and go to SI sessions, you will be prepared for the quizzes. She also gives three practice exams/finals before each test for practice. That being said, sometimes she makes a hard problem worth 15 points on a test, and if you get it wrong it will tank your grade. Decent professor, but be ready to work.
Terri is one of the kindest humans ever. She shows a clear joy for teaching and always answers any questions you may have. I visited her office hours weekly and found each interaction pleasant and helpful. Her class is hard but the lectures help. I struggled a lot with exams— I had an A in the class up until the final which dropped me down to a B.
Terri is a good professor who genuinely wants to see her students succeed. She is available every day for several hours to help students. During lectures, she explains concepts in a way that is easy to understand. Go to class, do the practice questions, and prepare for exams in advance and you'll do great in this class.
She is super nice and passionate about what she teaches. She gives more than enough practice materials to study making recitations easy. Lots of help outside of class is available. As long as you do the assigned problems you should be totally fine in this class. Exams are easier than the recitations in my opinion but the final was really hard.
Terry is a great professor! Homework is optional but if you want to get a good grade on the weekly quizzes you should do the worksheets. She is often available for office hours and gives great feedback one on one. She also offers previous exams for practice which are a must. Not easy, but a good math class overall.
The professor is available during office hours. However, the grading of exams is confusing. The final exam was difficult and turned my grade from an A into a C.
I hit my head and went to the ER and I emailed her to ask if I could take my test later due to my injury and she literally said "just do your best"????? Its also just such a test/quiz heavy course and shes not understanding at all of personal circumstances. If you arent a good tester then I wouldn't suggest taking her.
I have a love hate with terri because i consistently had an A in the class until she made the final near impossible and it tanked me to a B. If you took AP Calc in high school you should be fine with the 2nd and 3rd unit, 1st one isn't calc. Overall she's a good teacher but moves pretty quick and I don't love the class layout (esp weekly quizzes).
Even if you have a brain made of rocks and sticks, Terri Contenza will make sure you understand the bare bones of a concept. She is easily one of the most capable math professors in the entirety of the USA. She can explain complicated concepts to anyone willing to listen. Her office hours and SI sessions are superb.
gives so many past resources and SIs are always available to help. content can be difficult to grasp at first but she presents it in an approachable way. if you study you'll get an A
I would go to war for Terri. She is an amazing teacher and an even better human being. I went to her office hours weekly and she was always super helpful and pleasant. Study the concepts hard and use the past exams she gives you to prepare—you will be fine. She makes her finals difficult, so make sure you have enough padding from exams/quizzes.
126 is more difficult than 125. Some of the quizzes were hard so make sure that you prepare well. The exams and the final exam were difficult especially the final exam. This class really requires effort.
Terri was very understanding of my personal circumstances and really helped me pass the course. Her teaching style is high school-like, but it's good for freshmen who have never taken a college course before
doesnt post notes so go to class and listen and write. tests are so easy just do the previous ones and thats it, i scored 98s on each one. quizzes u should practice a bit with the given material but u drop 2 out of 11. moves so slow compared to MATH121 and had a review as the first unit so it was an easy switch. easy prof, even easier class, easy A
A great math professor that really dumbed down calculus to make it easy to understand. I would say that 126 is much harder than 125, but as long as you do all of the previous exams that she gives you will be fine. Attend all classes!!!
Her lectures are pretty clear, she gives loads of practice problems, and the this class wasn't really calculus heavy. If you can take this series over 121/122, I'd definitely take this one it's more stats then calc.
Genuinely the best prof at case. If you don't understand her lectures, I fear you're just bad at math. She could not be more clear. Take her.
Taking Terry's class was perfectly enjoyable. She teaches clearly, and she takes notes right along with you. Come to class, pay attention, and do the practice sheets and you'll be fine.
Attendance isn't required but, the class isn't recorded. In my opinion, you can learn everything by doing worksheets/ practice exams the night before and paying attention to the SI review before the quizzes. The class is very straightforward, just drill practice questions.
No HW, just quizzes every week and a few tests. It's very possible to get an A if you go to lectures or know AP Calc AB well. If calculus doesn't come easily, just make sure to do practice problems and worksheets, and you should be fine.
Lectures are easy to understand and she's always available for help and SIs are also available everyday. she wants her students to do well and weekly quizzes keep you on task. tests are short and very fair
If you aren't naturally strong in Calculus and haven't taken the course before, this is an extremely hard to follow class. Even with all lectures attended I struggled. She's extremely nice as a person and offers help but the overall help to the class isn't great.
“I don't care if you're on your deathbed, you cannot make up tests”. A great professor. Just don't die, show up to lectures (she doesn't record—have friends that take really good notes (I'm that friend)), and her office hours are more than a full time job. She can be pretty sassy. She'll assume you'll be good at math, but she's on top of things
Her lectures are very easy to follow. She takes notes on the board and explains concepts clearly. The practice problems are the same types of problems she uses on tests. Just do those and you'll get an A.
Terri was a good teacher. Her class is based on lectures that consist of example problems. If you put in any effort you should do good, I put in effort only in the second half and got 90s on the last tests. It is a good class and she is caring and will meet outside. Weekly quizzes. Grade primarily based on quiz and test scores.
Teri is great! Sure she's a bit weird bringing up Polly, her dead bird, every unit, but it gets the job done. Her built-in curve is generous and grading is quite nice; she'll give points back since SIs can be harsh. Some topics are taught in a weird concept esp. if you already have calc experience but just do it her way to be safe on the exams.
Professor Terri's lectures are clear and she explains things very thoroughly. Her tests are predictable in a good way, and you can focus on learning the material instead of prepping for weird curveball questions. Office hours are worth going to. She won't hand you an easy A, but she knows everyone's premed and doesn't try to hurt people's GPAs.
Terri is awesome! The structure of the class forces you to go to class and pay attention - lectures aren't recorded and the practice problems she does in class are exactly like the ones that will pop up on weekly quizzes. She made me enjoy math and understand it way more than I did in high school. Take her!
