Mrs. Marcus spends unnecessary time discussing topics that weren’t on the tests. She announced if anyone needed help to come see her but when students went, she still was no help. I loved discussing the topic of Nutrition and how it affects the body but when I took Mrs. Marcus class, my perception c

ms. marcus was a easy teacher if you studied. there is a small book you buy at the bookstore for about $5.00. do the work in this book and you will get an "A"!!!! i did.

She's nice, but her teaching style is annoying and boring
Rushes through information. Cuts students off when they are unclear about something or have a good question. She will always retort, "Read your book!". Yet often, the book isn't able to clarify the information that's being asked about. Instead, students are left 'in the dark'. Without outside help/tutoring it'll be a struggle to understand her.
Nutrition is not a powder puff class, it is a difficult class that you'll have to do the work in. I read every chapter, studied, and did the work and ended up with an A. I thought Mrs. Marcus was very helpful, but she also expects you to be willing to help yourself.
Nutrition to me is a really easy class, but Mrs. Marcus teaches on a clinical level and the class is an intro to nutrition. She follows the book somewhat, but basically your on your own. If attendence wouldn't be an issue....I would just say not attend lecture and study on your own. I would not go to her for help outside of class.
her tests are NOTHING like her stupid drawings she makes on the board. dont waste ur time. she is awful. i would say to just read the book, but wait...her tests come outta NOWHERE. unpredictable. dont take her
absolutely awful! she doesnt have a caring bone in her body. very indifferent about whether you understand or not. I retook this class with ms. yantis. now, she's a doll.
I took her Nutrition class online. You get to use your textbook on the chapter tests and she even drops the lowest one! BUT the Final--you gotta take it on campus AND if you fail, you fail the entire course!!! At the end of the semester, that really stressed me out. But she is straight forward, just Follow Her Instructions and you'll be fine!
She was hard, but would help you. She wants you to try to help yourseelf. I didn't listen to lecture I did the work in the little purple "study guide" book and in the workbook that comes with the book. That's all I studied for the test and I ended up with a 89.
I loved Mrs. Marcus. She is a tough teacher but extremely fair. She was always willing to help when I went to her office for clarification. She really knows her "stuff" and wants you to know it too. Believe me, when you get into the nursing program you'll be a step ahead on all things nutrition.
Horrible Professor. Avoid at all cost. She does not have the students' best interest in mind. You have been warned!
HORRIBLE teacher, if you could call her that...unfair and doesn't help you..
If you want a rude, unkind, unprofessional instructor ... then take Marcus! It is truly "Teacher vs. Student" ... I can't believe Chatt. State allows her to remain as an instructor.
I took her Nutrition online course. Overall the class wasn't too terribly hard, and the tests and final were pretty easy. There's no quizzes which is annoying, and if you ask her a question she sort of answers impersonally (just telling you where the answer is located and not the answer). I'd take her again.
Although I passed just fine, I'll never take Marcus again! She is impersonal, short with students, and has the mindset that she is some sort of "Nutrition Master" ... and the students are idiots ... very demeaning to students (the very ones who write her paycheck).
Beware!!! She is boring and uninteresting. The material covered in class is NOT on her tests.
Took her own line class; it's horrible. DO NOT take nutrition online. Testing material is long (2hours) and many questions are not covered in the book or in additional study materials. She's gone out of her way to make this course extremely difficult. Will never take her again -from word of mouth I would NOT recommend any of the nutrition teachers
DO NOT take this professor. She's the worst. Her tests are completely different than material covered in class and in the book. She doesn't give study guides. And when you try to ask her a question about ANYTHING, she acts like it's inconveniencing her. She never gives you the answer either. She makes the class alot harder than what it has to be.
Teresa is a nice lady, but her teaching method is really hard 2 follow. She teaches over your head and teaches from her drawings that are hard to understand. I would not advise you to take her class if you don't have a lot of time to dedicate towards self studying.
I had her online. I don't understand all the complaining. She wasn't impersonal with me at all. She directly spoke to me a few times in discussions and always answered off topic questions. Her tests came from the notes she gave us (which were lengthy. I think many students just didn't read them so missed test ?'s. Study hard, and you'll be fine!
If you dont like going to class do NOT take her class. She will put things on the test that you could only know if you were in class. I have a B in this class, but I have worked for it. Not for the faint of heart.
All of the previous reviews about her being difficult were absolutely right. It goes to show how well she can teach when most of her class drops out during the withdraw period and most of her class failed most of her exams including the Final.
Do Not take this Teacher! Terrible!
just don't do it to yourself. you'll regret it fully!
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS! I am retaking her class at an off-site location just to avoid dealing with her teaching methods. I had on average 3-4 hours of homework per night, tutors, and that still didn't help. You CAN'T teach using PowerPoint slides only, with an occasional reference to the textbook. Not recommended.
Stay as far away from this teacher as possible. She is HORRIBLE !! I know have to re take Nutrition because she is impossible. No amount of tutors/studying/anything will help.
absolutely terrible, never again. she was horrible. if i knew what i know now i wouldnt have taken her.
Was so hard.I used every bit of info she gave us and still could not pass two of her test. She went out of the way to make this class as hard as she possible could....Another reason I drop her class was...if you make less than a 70 on final that would be your final grade..would not average in with other grades unless it was higher than 70..
Yes, she is hard, but for good reason. Nutrition 1430 isn't just about a healthy diet, it's much more entailed than that, but oh so helpful when you get into A&P and even Psychology (if you bothered to pay attention to the material in Nutrition). She is hard, but she is fair and more than willing to help those who show that they WANT to learn.
If you want to pass this class or even get a decent grade I suggest that you do NOT take her. She is terrible. I think her goal is to see how many people will either drop the class or fail it. She is not helpful and doesn't want to see you succeed.
I am a very smart student and could not pass this class. She goes on and on about material that is not one the test. My major is Nutrtion and will have to take this class again because of how difficult she made it. DO NOT HAVE MARCUS!!
Do NOT take her.. Class is miserable because she lectures the whole time from her powerpoint & what she goes over in class is barely even on the test. Not a good teacher at all.
Bio-1430 was a hard class w/ my teacher being Marcus. I know for the next semester to go with another Nutrition teacher! :(
ONE OF THE WORST TEACHERS I'VE EVER HAD! she yelled at us almost every class, gave us more homework than any other class i had, and made her tests impossible. half of us in my class dropped, and the other half is having to take the course again anyway because they made such bad grades. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
AVOID T. MARCUS. IF YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO GO THROUGH YOUR TEXT BOOK AND READ THE POWER POINTS AND THE ABILITY TO DRAW LIKE A 4 YEAR OLD AND UNDERSTAND IT, YOU HAVE JUST TAUGHT YOURSELF BIOLOGY THE WAY T. MARCUS DOES...
One of the worst teachers ive had. I'd recommend taking the other nutrition teacher on campus.
OMG!!!! DO NOT TAKE MARCUS CLASS!!!!! She dont care about her students, she just read off the powerpoints and ramble about nothing the whole class. If you want an F take her if not take it online I retook it online sooo much better im a smart student passed with a B from Amy. G class online shes a great teacher AMY!! so dont take Marcus CLASS!!!!
DO NOT TAKE MARCUS. I AM CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN MARCUS' CLASS. I ATTEND EVERY CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES. I ATTEND TUTORING THREE TIMES A WEEK. I READ THE CHAPTERS 2 TO 3 TIMES EACH. AND MY TEST GRADES ARE ALL FAILING. SHE IS HORRIBLE AT HELPING HER STUDENTS TOO. I ASKED HER FOR HELP AND SHE JUST YELLED AT ME ABOUT WHAT I WAS DOING WRONG. I HATE HER.
I study my tail off for her tests and attend every lecture - Im not passing. I have gone to her for private tutoring - and she tells me what I am doing wrong and is very rude! Makes you buy an access code and you only use it one time. You dont use the book in class only outside of class but she claims most of the book is wrong. Worst teacher award.
Terri Marcus is the worst teacher I've ever had. I currently have an A average in all the classes I've taken at Chatt State except for hers. Not sure where her test questions come but they don't come from the book or her lectures. She is NOT helpful and is very rude. She is the worst teacher at Chatt State. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!
She wasnt the best at making things clear but if you studied the right information you passed her exams, the only downfall was its a points class and the only points you get are the ones from exams and like 3 extra credit assignments. I enjoyed her class,You just have to work for her As they are not given. P.s. BUY the green book!
Prides herself that this is a "weeding" class for the nursing program. Could care less about her students. If you have to take BIOL 1430, don't take her or the online class (she's in charge of it, too).
I passed this class with an 87, but I have to teach myself everything. Many hours on YouTube figuring things out and applying them to the PowerPoint and making notes. She is a teacher that thinks she gives you everything to pass but when it comes to her test she will your not prepared at all. Good luck!
everyone who says this class is hard is because they dont even try. marcus does an awesome job on letting you know what material she WILL test you on. if you dont show up for lecture, forget about it. but if you do, and you study straight from HER booklet-- everything is really handed to you, you just have to read whats given.
She starts class early and ends late. She's unhelpful & rude to students who ask for clarification. She disagrees w the book and doesn't know how to spell, or use proper terminology. Her notes are sloppy and test info unclear. I chose her bc her class fit into my schedule and it was a huge mistake, I would say over half the class dropped.
I see a lot of negative reviews of Marcus: I took it in my 1st semester in 13 yrs and I passed just fine. I didn't LOVE her lectures, but she does give you the info you need. Most comes from the Blue Book and she goes over it and tells you exactly what you need to know. You have to come to class and study, but if you do, you can get a good grade.
This was the first teacher i have taken that i have not liked at all. She is very rude to her students and does not like to clarify if someone has a question. Her test questions come out of NOWHERE. I would definitely not suggest her to anyone taking this class. I am having to retake this class after studying my butt off all semester and still anF
Her class was harder for me than A&P 1 which is saying a lot. I had to read and outline my book and teach myself the material. I attended class, but left learning nothing. I recommend Yantis for nutrition!
Worst professor ever. There's only 500 points total for the entire semester, 400 of which come from the midterm and final. Discussion posts were only worth 1 point, and you had to use her sources or she would say you're wrong and not give you credit. She's not helpful in the slightest.
I read this professor's reviews before I took the class and I was really scared. However, I didn't think she was that bad. I actually did well in this class and I've struggled with science classes in the past. As long as you attend class, do the (very few) assignments and study for the tests you will do fine.
She pretty much just read what was on her slides during lecture time, though she would go into a little more detail. I always felt like I learned something during her lectures, but her tests had absolutely nothing to do with the things she lectured over. Every test question I got correct was something I had read in the book and taught myself.
She's the worst
This professor is the worst online professor I have ever had. She is extremely rude and likes to make her students feel inferior. I advise students not to take her course. She makes simple tasks impossible to pass with her ridiculous standards. I failed a discussion post for providing extra information that supported the answer to her question.
She was rude to me on several occasions. She treats students like they are elementary school kids. The worst part? Her lectures. Most annoying professor ever.
Three words. TER. RI. BLE. I took her online class. I am a straight A student. I study and work hard to understand my courses. No matter how hard I try I cannot do well in her class. When I emailed her for help she basically copy and pasted the class syllabus. DONOT TAKE HER CLASS!
This professor is the worst I have taken. I struggled with her first test and went to her for help instead she showed me the counseling office. She does not encourage you to strive. There were only 410 points to earn and 400 were from the 4 test she gives. I will never take her again and never suggest her to anyone who would like to pass.
Mixed feelings about this professor. She has an interesting way of teaching and it takes a little bit to get use to it. Almost all of the point come from the test so it is important to study and do well. She has really good examples and creative ways of remembering things which I found very helpful. She can be kind of rude but also can be sweet.
Was very hard to understand professor teaching styles could not relate
All she do is talk talk talk talk!!! she doesn't encourage no one to do better, only offers 10 extra credit points. then 4 tests which is all together 400 points. things thats on the test, she doesn't talk about.
She is very educated, but her notes/powerpoints/lecutres are confusing. The learning objectives are crazy long for each chapter and you must know those along with every single vocabulary word in the chapters being tested on. However, I do feel like I have always learned something when I get done with class.
The material isn't difficult, just a very poor instructor.
I am taking this as an online course and it is the hardest class I have ever had. What content will be on the quizzes and case studies is not clear. I have no idea what I should be focusing on at all. I do not know what to use to answer calculations. The point system is terrifying; you cannot miss a question on a case study or quiz without failing
I took this class online and got an A, but it required an extreme amount of work. I do think she is too hard for the community college level, especially if someone is taking other classes while taking her class. Make sure you have access to a printer. There will be a lot of worksheets and handouts to print out with each chapter.
The powerpoints and textbook contradict one another at times. The quizzes are worded in a way that is unclear and tricky. When a question is missed, references to materials are given, but are inaccurate so you must find the answer on your own. If you ask a question, you will simply be referred back to the materials instead of given an answer.
WOW. She honestly was the worst teacher I've ever had. She made no sense and said some contradictory things. Her lectures and tests did not go together, she lectured straight off the powerpoints- pretty much read off of it and was super boring. Students left her class every day and didn't stay for the whole class bc she was just so bad. Don't take!
This class content was not hard but you better be prepared to teach yourself. She contradicts the textbook sometimes with her powerpoints that she reads straight off of every day. I wouldn't even bother going to class.
Possibly the most disengaged, dismissive, "educator" I've ever met.
All you have to do is read the orange book (not everything just bolded and stuff you have to fill in like math problems you don't even have to do the math problems she gives you the answers) and do the study guide that she provides. A lot of it is common sense. The study guide may seem like a lot but once you get your test score back you'll be glad
Terri Marcus was one of the best professors I've ever had, her passion is very inspiring. She means business and is very serious about her job and cares greatly for people and loves teaching them about health. Some of the best advice I've gotten has been from her. Very kind and helpful person just take the time to talk with her.
I think if you study like you should you could easily pass this course. I took it with A&P II & still received a B. She seems tough, but if you do what is expected of you you'll pass. Go to her office to look over tests. She's really helpful when you go to her office. Having some A&P knowledge helped me understand some of the topics better as well.
This was one of the hardest classes Ive taken. I have maintained an A in all of my classes up to this class and failed this course. She will not help you. If you ask her a question she just refers you make to the material provided that gives no help. The missed questions for your quizzes can not be found. WORST TEACHER.
Toughest class I have ever had. The lecture is boring, because she just reads off the powerpoint slides. Going to her office isn't that helpful. Don't take!
Do not do online classes
This class was harder than what I expected. Had to do a lot of learning on your own. You could skip class and still pass. Was not very effective in class would not get through slides or lessons before tests. She said that the study guide in the back of the green book would be the questions on the final and it was not. It was the last section.
I did not enjoy this class. A lot of the times questions on the online quizzes did match up with the material given to learn for the quiz and it was frustrating.
go hard when you take her class or you'll be wasting your money. lectures are dragging to, found it easier to study and learn on my own or with classmates but you also cant just skip class
Class is way harder than it should be. I have had friends take it at a university and it not be near as hard as she makes it. Your midterm and final are both 40% of your grade which is a total of 80%. Everything else in the class barely counts. I am warning you
Bc Covid, half of the sem. was in class and the other was online. In class, lectures went by painfully slow since she only reads verbatim from the PowerPoints. If you asked a question you were met with a snarky rude comment like we will get to that or You should read your textbook. Online her tests were way too hard even w/ open book & studying
This is my first time taking this class and I will admit I underestimated it, HOWEVER I know people that failed the class, I know people that are re taking it,and what is very sad is even my advisor that took the class in 2006 had to withdraw the class. My financial aid person said he knew what teacher I was talking about and barley passed yrs ago
She is the absolute worst instructor. Does not explain anything and doesn't care about how her students are doing in the class. Most students end up dropping and the usual class size at the end of the semester is anywhere from 3-9. The questions on the exam come from out of the blue. If you need nutrition take TNEC class instead.
The worst teacher I have ever had. If you ask her for help she just tells you to reread the chapter. Information from the test can not be found in the textbook nor in the PowerPoint. Each week she gives a quiz that is five questions, if you miss one question you fail. Do not recommend taking her classes.
This class was pretty difficult, she told us the first week that it would require 6-8 hrs of study per week, it turned into 12-13 hrs per week. I learned so much but a lot is required of you. The midterm and final are almost the entirety of the class so STUDY WELL!! You'll be able to pass if you study well and actually learn and apply the info.
Be prepared to dedicate all your study time to this one class. It is a very intense class and if you have questions and dare email her she will respond with "check your textbook." She is not very good at giving assistance when it is requested. Good luck honestly, you will be teaching yourself. I will say- she does give 2 bonus points!
awful- good luck.
If you dont have to take this class, dont take it! Mrs. Marcus is a sweet lady, her teaching style is just not what works for me at all. I hardly got anything out of her lectures and I feel like I had to teach myself this whole course. It was so stressful haha I thought this would be a semi easy class. Do not recommend, if you need it put in work
rough
currently failing & gives 30 min for 20 questions so i failed. she doesn’t teach anything considering being online & just gives a lot of papers to read. no learning. doesn’t let you retake anything. she says use the textbook and everything for 5 questions for you not to find it. doesn’t teach
Do not take her class. She is the worst professor I have ever taken. She reads the power points word for word. She has a Q&A session but when you ask questions she will read the PowerPoint word for word. She does not help her students or care about their success in her class.
She was difficult and expected you to teach yourself, I tried flashcards, notes, and everything nothing helped. Everything on the test was not in notes. The book was free range and never gave help for midterm or final. I do not recommend it if you can't teach yourself, is not text savvy, and hard to reach. She says "do better." I tried hard but no.
