hard class but great teacher

She is hard but fair as long as you do your work and comment in class. Basically be a good student and you will be in her good graces
Very Hard Class.
This woman is the worst teacher I ever studied under at LPC. In women's history she assigned texts that were both redundant and vegue. She couldn't stay on any topic that wasnt Elisabeth Cady Stanton, and she unduely rewards **** comments.
everything is written work. study, and do your work and you'll get a good grade.
Bengiveno is clear and helpful. Although there is reading- thats pretty much it, quizes once a week, a paper and two exams and thats it. pretty easy
She's a great teacher with a lot of knowledge but her quizzes are way too hard and they tend to focus on insignificant things in the reading assignments.
All essay tests about things she didn't even discuss.
This was my first college class. Dr. Bengiveno was helpful and fair.
She'll bend over backwards for students who are really trying. As a social historian, she focuses more on society than on dates and times.. She's really nice, but don't take her class if you're looking for a free ride. This ain't high school no more.

She really is a great teacher. Very informative and knows her stuff. I learned so much and retained it. It is not an easy A, nor should it be. Just read, take notes, and you will do fine. She really will help you if you want to learn. The class is enjoyable and worth the hard work.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken! Nobody should go through this much trouble just to pass a boring history class. I passed my history7 with a 'B'. I admit the last teacher was boring as well but at least he wasn't tough on grading like she is! She requires way too much, it's ridiculous!!
Dr. Bengiveno's classes are fantastic! The rigorous course work will prepare you for what it’s like outside of LPC. Last semester I transferred to UCLA and am glad I had her guidance. She makes herself available to students through office hours and emails, offering transfer advice or school help.
Beware- you will HAVE to work and read in her classes. She expects alot on term papers and wants a lot of solid, accurate facts in finals. She does make herself a tool to her students as to what she expects but it can be too much at times. Class attendence must be consistant!!
I thought that she was an awesome teacher. She expects a lot out of her students; she was always there if you needed any assistance. If you do the work and read you would do fine in her class.
She is a good lecturer that incorporates movies, tapes, n other resources to teach. She is a hard grader & her exams are tough but if you read its not a problem. She allows for a lot of student discussion and is very approachable. This class prepares you for upper divison courses!..
An excellent teacher with a clear objective for her students.
Dr. Bengiveno is the greatest teacher I have ever met. She is a strong ethical and professional example to follow, respectful, organized, and simply a very beautiful woman. She is a book, that you want to study more and more... With greatest respect, Olesya Clark.
I LOVE DR. B.... Shes a Giants fan. She is hard, but fair. You get what you earn. Very knowledgable. I loved it

Dr. B is one of the best teachers i have ever had.

Dr. Bengiveno is an amazing teacher an she will do a lot to prepare you for real college work. She is an intellectual while affable, all the while. Absolutely my favorite teacher on campus.
Wonderful!
shes easy on the eyes but is still mean
at first i must say i struggled and planned on withdrawing but after i talked to her...she really helped and wants all her students to pass her class. so if u need help, just turn to her. now the class is actually easy. however, its still hard. u MUST read the readings N take good notes!!! she's a really sweet and smart teacher! that cares!
Dr. Bengiveno is a great teacher. She is extremely knowledgeable and teaches in a clear easy to follow manner (she keeps you interested). She is black & white about her expectations of her students. She is truly a professional teacher! Do your reading, and take good notes. She is very approachable and very willing to help you succeed!
She seems to think that she's "tough but fair" but she is plain sadistic. Even if you're getting a good grade...
This woman is extremely intelligent! She wants to give people challenges, you'll learn a lot in her class and although there is a lot of work and reading, she gives you all of the questions to each exam!
Dr. Terriann Bengiveno is very knowledgeable, she knows her stuff very well and teaches very clearly. Her tests are challenging if you don't know the stuff and you don't take notes in class. She's the kind of teacher that likes you to volunteer when she asks questions.
Tests are rediculously difficult. Lots of memorizing for the sake of memorizing. Found her to be inconsistant. Turned in a paper early for feedback. After I made all the corrections indicated she found additional things wrong with it? Not sure what the point of turning it in early is if she isn't going to tell you what all your errors are.
big feminist!! very intelligent!! tests are very challenging!! but she does lets you show her the study guide you have put together, then is very willing to help you go more in the right direction!! if you start out the class being on top of things and talking with her, it will help you a lot!!
She does not let you speak. When she asks for your opinion she does not accept it unless she shares the same opinion! If you go to her for help she makes you feel like a complete idiot! If you are not a history fan DO NOT take her class! Her tests are very difficult. She makes you feel as if you are supposed to already know the info.
mid term is extremely hard and you will not pass if you do bad. its a hard class
This woman is sadistic. She is inept to make the topic of any interest. You will work extremely hard, spend countless hours studying (this class turns into your social life) and all you get out of it is a mediocre grade. DO NOT TAKE IT. I WAS a 4.0 student before taking her class, but not anymore. Thanks Bengiveno!
She is hard. Her tests are very demanding. She's there to help though. Sometimes she can be difficult with her answers to questions, but she's cool and will joke around once in a while. But hard. I'm amazed i got an A. I only studied the day before the midterm and the final, memorization is key. The essays are fine as long as you listen to lectures
Dr. B. is a very intellegent woman with a great sense of humor (and a big sports fan). She expects alot from her students, but is very fair and willing to help in any way. If you keep up with the reading and take good notes, you'll do fine. I learned alot in her class. Lillian Williams
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TESTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD. SHE GIVES SEVERAL ESSAY QUESTIONS AND SHE PICKS ONE ON THE DAY OF THE TEST. NO NOTES,BOOK, NOTHING ON FINAL! JUST YOUR BRAIN! BASICALLY YOU HAVE TO MEMORIZE EVERYTHING. ALSO HAVE TO MEMORIZE ALL VOCAB FOR TEST & DATES. YEAH GOOD LUCK ON THAT ONE!
I think she is a really good teacher. You need to keep up with the reading and you will be fine
VERY HARD CLASS. One of the hardest teachers i've ever had. If you suck at memorization.. you are doomed. Midterm/Final require massive amounts of it. Lectures are eh. Hard to take very good notes from them. Good luck.
Dr. B is a little demanding, but she is a no-nonsense person. She gave me a C and I still think she's awesome. She's really intelligent, and she's got a good sense of humor. If you ever go to her office hour she will help you immensely by telling you exactly what she wants on exams.
She is an awesome teacher. Makes her class very engaging. Almost everyone feels involved. Her lectures are based on discussion, videos and more discussions. She is tough about attendence and leaving early and the quizzes weigh alot. There is a quiz every week. I wish all the teachers could teach that way. She is great.
Dr. B is extrematly hard .. DO NOT take any class with her!!!!
Hardest teacher EVER!!! She thinks people in her class should live, think, and breathe Women's History. Don't even attempt taking her class unless you have tons of free time, love reading text books, and enjoy working your tail off for a medeocre grade. Her Exams are in class essays, there are pop quizes, and her work is ridicuously time consuming.
Dr. B is a truly caring person. Her classes are tough, but by putting in the hard work she expects, you will do fine. Not a general ed class to skate through, so don't take it unless you're serious about learning. A good grade is earnable. I was pregnant, working full time and taking 12 total units and still earned a B. It's a matter of staying org
She covers a lot of material in lecture and assigned reading, and expects you to remember it in detail for frequent quizzes, the midterm, and final. She is very clear about her expectations. Good teacher and good class, unless you want to slack off. Getting a good grade is just a matter of putting in the time.
Dr. Bengiveno is intelligent and knows what she is doing. All other who whined about the difficulty probably never read a page of their textbook. Her lectures can be a bit boring, but they are extremely useful so take notes! Homework can be very burdensome, but at least read 75% of it. For the essays, create an outline with a friend or someone. <3
I can't speak highly enough about Dr.B! Taking her class 1st semester back @ school(6+ yr. break-Mom of 2)was the best experience! ALL material was benificial & relevant; learning about kick A** women in US history was extremly motivating & inspiring! Class counts in 2+ GE areas;totally worth it! She'll love you if you want to learn! I got an A!
Uninteresting, unhelpful, not open to fresh interpretations. Apart from that, I would attend her office hours before EVERY paper and EVERY test to show her thorough drafts and study guides. Even after saying they were good, she would give me a low grade after I turned the assignments in. Ridiculous.
She is a great professor. I really enjoyed her lectures, she makes history interesting.
She's tough but good at what she does and you can tell she really loves it. I'm not much of a studied so at first her class was harcourt but once I got used to it it was fine... I didn't even read the textbook!
Hardest class I've ever taken! I can't speak badly of her, because she is very clear as to what she expects & is very knowlegeable, however if you are a working student & have other classes that also take up study time, she is extremely challenging! If you are not a History buff, & just need this class as a requirement, I'd suggest another teacher.
She is extremely hard and expects you to know a lot. You must show up for every class and take notes on the lectures! The class is hard but she will help you if you go to her office hours.
Extremely difficult to do well on midterm/final. She gives you about 24 hours to memorize at least a half page essay for each of about 70 different terms/items then is a hard grader on them. Expects you to know an unreasonably large amount of information in an unreasonably small amount of time. Will grade harder if she does not like you personally.
Currently enrolled in her class. I made the mistake by reading a select few that said she was easy, SHE'S NOT. You need to read verbatium in the textbook to get a good grade on tests and quizzes. Tons of reading homework and a few projects here and there. Just a complete lecture class and extremely time consuming. Overall, very hard teacher!!
Very, very tough teacher. Nice in office hours, though. She expects a lot, especially on exams. Take her suggestion and make notecards -- it helps! If you study, you should be fine. Just know she asks for a lot, and you'll spend a lot of time working on this class.
Dr. B is the toughest professor at Las Po, but you will learn so much from her. I'll agree with another reviewer who said she should be teaching at Harvard or Berkeley. But, if you put your mind to it & read the book, you'll do well. I studied harder for her class than any class I've ever taken and I still only got a B. But, took away more. Love he
Her class wasn't HARD, it was just time consuming more then any other classes I had. She is clear on what she wants and even provides you key definitions at lectures to give you a hint of whats going to be at the midterm/finals. Get real people; shes only hard if your LAZY.
She is a sweetheart and is very intelligent. Very hard but I love her and she is very nice. Only thing to watch out is to read the text always and ASK QUESTIONS if you need help because on her essays you cannot do well if you do not know understand the concept and historical FACTS.
dr. bengiveno is one of the nicest teachers i know, but the class is difficult. hist 8 is a simple class if your good with memorization. lost of that . overall nice teacher, hard class
She is extremely hard!! Massive amounts of reading, takes several hours which she assigns on a regular basis! You practically have to memorize every page that you read! Extremely strict! She wants you to dedicate your life to history.
Really difficult. My two best friends dropped before the midterm. She assigns a TON of reading every class and you have 11 quizzes per semester. If you take really good lecture notes and keep up on reading, you'll do fine, but I don't think it's possible to get an A. The midterm is pretty easy if you study. Good luck...
ultra hard teacher, do not make a mistake by taking her her class. She will make you pay.She is so unreasonable, her syllabus requires reading for many hours through the week.
Teacher is very nice, however, there is alot of reading for this class. Midterms and finals are difficult. You must know dates. Attendance is important. I was disappointed on the grade I got on the symposium. Outline wasn't long enough and cost me points. I spent two weekends working on the material.
This is the best class I ever took. Dr. Bengiveno is a true teacher who has honed her craft to the max. Her lectures were so interesting I had to force myself to take notes vs. just listening. Lots of reading and studying, but you need to do it to understand. Two 100s on midterm in our class. She treats students with respect and requires it back.
Dr. Bengiveno is a near perfect college professor. She's punctual, interested in the subject, funny, uses a diverse set of teaching methods and is an incredibly awesome woman. She is one of the more difficult professors at LasPo, but as long as you study the concepts she says to study then you be fine. Remember DATES though!!!
Awsome teacher and very helpful. Studying for the midterm and final is recommended and she is willing to help so take advantage of that.
She talks a lot and doesn't explian right. Her midterms and quizes are hard... Her grading is hard... I don't like her at all..
She is very helpful and explains things that even the most challenged individual (see previous post) should be able to understand. If you are a slacker or slow don't take her class. I had to work to earn a C!
She is a top notch teacher that should be teaching at a university. You sure get your money's worth. If you stay on top of your reading and flash cards, you will do fine. There is a lot of reading, but her actual assignments are few so its a good balance. I don't recommend her class if you have young children or are working full time.
A wonderful teacher, she is dedicated to teaching you what you need to know. There is some work, but I would definatly take her class again.
You have to be an experienced college student and have a wide background in history to even hold up in her class. She just throws 5 vocab words/eras/people on the projector as an outline and you fill in your own notes...if you can even keep up. OBNOXIOUS amounts of reading. Take it if your up to a challenge...for general ed, find someone else.
This class is very challenging and you have to study like crazy to get an A on the midterms and finals. But, she is always available to help and I learned a lot.
Great professor. Really strict grader, but very fair. If you go and visit with her during office hours, you'll have a much better chance of getting a good grade because 1., she'll explain exactly what you need to do and 2., she appreciates seeing that you care enough about your grade to come and see her out of class. Very knowledgeable professor.
hard class
Quiz every week. Meet with her before tests, she loves to see that you care and will consider that on your test score(she won't tell u of course). Very interesting class. Dedicated, Funny and sweet Italian teacher haha loved her class! 1paper, 1midterm essay&vocab,1final essay&vocab. READ to pass.
Her lectures are interesting, and so are the films she runs. The only tests are the midterm and the final. Tests involve references to stories in the text, and videos you watched in class. Attendance not really necessary to pass, except on video days.
Dr. B is a very good teacher but she is tough. Make sure you get the textbooks and come to class. Taking notes on her lectures is pretty hard but she is very willing to help on all assignments and before tests. She is available during office hours and even willing to make appointments at other times. She is very nice if you try in her class.
I feel like she doesn't read any of the essays we write. She takes her handy dandy marker and marks everything wrong. If you hate presentations, this is not the class for you. She is very monotone and boring. Her lectures are dull, I have caught myself snoozing off once in awhile. She is like a block of wood, emotionless.
Her class was so interesting. Some of the material were thought-provoking and powerful. However, there was a lot of reading involved in the assignments and a lot of writing in the tests. Those seem to be the only reasons why my grade dropped to a C. She also makes you do presentations, so be prepared.
She is a tough grader but an amazing teacher. She makes you work for your grade. If you take her, be prepared to work very hard. She is very helpful during her office hours.
Don't take the class if you're not ready to work. I ended up with a 96% in the class so it is possible to do well, but it took a lot of work all semester. Taking the class was a really good experience, it'll prepare you for tougher classes in the future and you'll really learn history. I'd highly recommend taking her class, just be ready to work.
Ms. Bengiveno is such a cool professor, she's definitely not at all rude! She's always very open to help out, visit her office hours! Yes, you HAVE TO READ. But honestly, if you pace yourself and do the readings on time, it's not hard. If I had read from the start, I could've landed an A easily. Advice is to READ READ READ, and you'll get an A or B
Women Studies 1 was by far my favorite class at Las Positas. Dr. Bengiveno is a wonderful teacher. She clarifies anything asked. She is inspirational. A's are earned, not given for effort. I RECOMMEND everyone taking a course from her.
Dr. Bengiveno taught me things about life and ideas that i never thought of before. She is a tough teacher but once you get to know her a very kind woman. Womens studies was my favorite class by far last year, but my hardest so get ready to study hard and stay up on the reading or you will fail. Women's rights matter.
By far the worst lectures of my life and everything is equated to baseball. EVERYTHING. I come to class to learn, not hear a story about her favorite team and how awful theyre doing as compared to the giants. Other than that, tests aren't too bad but you do have to read the book, otherwise you only know about 65% of it.
I don't understand why she only has a 3.8 she is such an amazing teacher who actually cares about her students and her job! She always offers plenty of help and is very clear about assignments. This is college though folks, of course there' going to be work and her class is no different.
You have one assignment every two weeks. The assignments either involve writing a one page paper on a topic or creating a Power Point. She is very clear in her instructions and is helpful if you ask questions. Her test are pretty tough but reading the material definitely helps.
Smart, in control, credible, and tough, but you will learn about the subject, and how far you can push yourself. If she ever was to lead an activist group, she could count on me on being there with her. If being challenged isn't your thing, then might I suggest a cheese class. I felt accomplishment upon completion. Dr. B if you read this. thank u
I will rate based on honesty and avoid being biased. She's an extraordinary professor because she answer your questions respectively and she respects each and every individuals. However, her notes that were projected were vague, instead she orally gave them to you and only repeatedly it couple of times. Overall, her method of teaching is well done.
Ms. Bengiveno is a fair teacher. Her lectures were interesting and she prepared the class well for tests. Only one pop quiz. Don't take her if you are hoping to not have to go to many classes though, attendance is very important.
Tough class, many students dropped. However, after the final everyone i talked to had B. You will pass if you try. You need to come to class or you will fail. Dr. Bengiveno is super interesting i am glad i took her womens history class, i have never learned so much in one class. Thank you Dr.B
She is a great teacher, you learn a lot in every class so it's really important that you go! She's a harsh grader, quizzes once a week. She also assigns a ton of reading, and I mean a ton.
Taken for US Women's History. Passionate about the subject, reading the book is a must. Attend class, lectures are vital. End of semester group presentation (1hr 15min). WILL HELP YOU ANY WAY SHE CAN!! Cares about students, but it is not an easy course. Might come off as strict/stern, but truly cares and gets to know students if you let her!
This teacher is a tough grader. She is hard to please. She gives quite a few big assignments that are worth many points. She is a nice person. Her class has too much reading. On the tests she picks people you should know. If you don't ask, she will think you know it all. In her Women's Hist. she talks way too long on one person. Her tests are long
Let me start by saying, that I have never been a "school person" and before the first mid-term (yes there are two) I thought about taking a W. However, IF you read, and go to OFFICE hours you will pass., I passed with a B. She is a very sweet lady, her tests are hard, but don't get discouraged from her reviews :) I recommend taking her class.
Grades papers on her own scale and expects your paper to we a short story. You are supposed to summarize the subject to discussion but not in your own words, but in your own words. I find most history teachers at Las Positas must have been rejected from other schools because the students have more qualified responses then they do.
she gave me a 69% in the class as my final grade and did not want to bump it up by 1% because that would be "fraudulent" on her part. Also she was never really much help, she wasn't really a teacher and her answer to most of my questions was " you earned it" or "figure it out on your own."
There haven't been many times I felt proud about school. Passing her class gave me that sense. She will establish expectations right off the bat. She doesn't navigate away from that, so you should always know where you stand. This is a big boy/girl class. Her office hours should be used as she is extremely helpful.
Not bad, but you should give more than 100% if you want an A. Even if you follow her instructions EXACTLY, you will likely not receive full credit. "Above and beyond" work is expected, but not requested; (in my opinion) papers are graded with this in mind. Reading is a MUST!!! if you want to pass.
Grades papers based on how she expects them to be done; not on how she instructs you to do them, so do much more than the directions ask or you'll receive minimal credit.
Dr. Bengiveno is a very good professor but expects a lot from her students. If you don't show up, you won't pass. If you don't actively study, you won't pass. If you don't read the book, you won't pass. After the first midterm, 3/4 people in the class dropped. The tests are all written as well. Participation and attendance counts. Very passionate
Ridiculous test prep. She gives 70 terms and 5 essay q's, but only picks 20 terms and 3 essay q's. Resulted in me typing out 25 pgs for prep work! Incredibly difficult to get an A on the discussion posts. Her expectations are unclear. Zero opportunity for extra credit. Got annoyed with me when I emailed her asking a question. Take a diff prof.
What is there to say about this teacher. She is not a nice woman. I worked my ass off in this class and I got a D. I never could pass any test until the final. I studied my butt off the whole semester. I tried to talk to her about my grades but she wouldn't change anything. She wouldn't even help me with understand what I did wrong. Don't take her
This class did not really assign homework - meaning your grade will rely heavily on the tests! Memorize the vocabulary and stay on track and you should do well, even though she is a harsh grader. Not at all the most exciting lecturer, but is very intelligent and passionate.
Dr. Bengiveno makes you work for your grade. My first midterm I received an A. I went into almost all of her office hours the week before the midterm and went over the information especially the essay questions. If you put in the work she will be more than happy to help you succeed in any way possible.
I see a lot of people on here bagging on her saying she's bad because this is a hard class. Yes, she actually makes you work, and no, that doesn't mean she's bad at her job or she's mean. If you want an easy A look elsewhere, but if you actually want to learn and feel like you earned something, take her. She's good at what she does and she cares.
Her lectures are interesting. Lots of reading. Not an easy class, but she's good.
Every time we do homework for this class, i do everything she asks for but she never gives full credits. NEVER! Her grading system is not clear enough. I really do not get why i would get 17/20 on a hw when i did everything she asked me to do.
She is so unclear with her grading, no way to make up tests along with no extra credit opportunities, lots of reading, her power point lectures are not note taking worthy, not a very nice woman, overall worst and hardest teacher ever.
I learned a lot in her class. She is very knowledgeable and very accessible. Her class is very difficult but if you study, you will pass. I highly suggest you visit her during office hours and do all of the readings.
Wowza this class was tough. Her grading criteria is pretty random. She assigns a ton of reading every night, but you turn in very little so your grade is almost entirely based on two tests and a project. I got an A but it cost me my soul and a lot of sleep.
She was ridiculously harsh on grading. She also had a hangup about plagiarism, I think she might have gone through that trauma when she was younger. She mentioned it several times during the course and often acted like she was the only "expert" in her field like she knew everything. Didn't learn a lot.
You haveto bust your butt off in this class and even then don't expect miracles. She is unclear in just about everything, unfair on her grading, and tuff on her grading. I don't thing we should be expected to dedicate the kind of time of hours required for her class. She is not a good teacher stay away from her. And she's not helpful
Avoid at all costs. What everyone else has said is true. She is a very tough grader, and gives almost no feedback. The little feedback she does give is very generic. I got an A in her class, but it was harder than it should have been for an online history class.
You have to remember what you read and study continuously. She's a tough teacher who wants you to know everything she teaches. If you're on it, then you can pass her class but it's not a class you can slack off since the beginning.
By far the worst teacher I've ever had. She wants VERY specific answers on her tests and even then grades you really hard. She wants you to read an insane amount of pages for homework. I was at a 69% at the end of the semester and she didn't want to give me the 1%. Do yourself a favor and don't take her.
Yes, she assigns a lot of reading. However, I thought she was a really great professor. I took her online History 8 class and learned a lot. Plus, we discussed topics that were very interesting and applicable to current day situations. To me, her tests were easy too. For midterms and finals, you just have to make sure you know your vocabulary!
This teacher is unreasonable. Very tough grader and doesn't promote a good learning environment for her students in class. Large amount of information covered but only small amount actually needed to know. Very very specific on details.
Immediately after the first test, about half the class had dropped. Lots of reading and papers, just to receive lots of markdowns with little feedback. Take online if possible.
Does assign a lot of reading and gives a quiz every week, but if you do read you should be fine. She drops your lowest Quiz grade at the end of the semester, and her final/midterm consists of vocab and writing a short essay.
Dr. Bengiveno is tough, but very passionate. There is a lot of reading that is required for weekly quizzes, but her lectures include information that is not in the book. The exams are written, so make sure you study the vocab and DO THE READING. Not an easy A but just be an adult and do the work and you will be fine.
Dr. Bengiveno is a very intelligent person but her teaching style is not effective for most. She assigns excessive amounts of reading (which no one really does) and tends to be quite irritable. She did not enter a single grade in Canvas until a couple weeks before the end of the semester, when she threw in everything at once. Avoid her if you can.
Dr. Bengiveno is a very passionate professor especially in Women's History but she has very high expectations. She assigns a lot of reading and the exams are primarily from the reading. Both the exams and pop quizzes are essay exams so be ready to defend your knowledge.
Dr. Bengiveno's teaching style is through lectures (which doesn't cover what's in the textbook) and through the assigned readings. This class requires intense amounts of reading both the textbook and the primary documents in the Voices of Freedom text. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory on non-quiz days, but it does matter for participation.
Bengiveno teaches really well. She does expect attendance and for your phones to be out of sight or participation points will be deducted. The class consists of a book review on a novel you choose out of preselected options, an annotated bibliography and symposium, 4 pop quizzes, two midterms, the final, and participation.
History 8 online course is challenging and can be rewarding if you put the time and effort in. Dr. Bengiveno is fair but be ready to do your assignments, read and mid-term and the final are a must. If you do the assignments, quizzes and test you will pass the class. I learned a lot and the instructor does give you positive feed back.
Dr. Bengiveno makes you work for that grade. She grades pretty hard and you will have to read what is assigned. But if you show her that you are willing to work she will work with you. If there is a tutor for your class TAKE THE EXTRA HELP! They will help you more than you know!
The hardest professor Ive had. Probably ever. And I went to university before trying to finish up an extra degree. Literally wants you to go on and on and on.... and on in order to get full credit on ANYTHING. The midterm, get ready to write because its 2.5 hours timed and you need all of it! She definitely needs to be teaching upper grad.
Not the best grader. My first assignment she marked me down for not having enough sources. So for my second assignment I made sure to use multiple sources. Then she marked me down for using sources other than the textbook! I couldn't win LOL!!!!! Feedback was ALWAYS the same, and her exams suuuccckkkk! Pros: 2 assignments with 2 weeks to complete
This professor isnt accommodating in the slightest. Test very hard and will grade harshly.
This prof was pretty good. I don't understand all the negative reviews. Do the work and she is fair and lectures are interesting
Dr. Bengiveno is great. I work full time, have a family, had 4 classes and got an A. You'll work for every point but if you do, you'll succeed and learn alot. She offers great content. You'll use MLA guidelines. I'd recommend taking this with/after an English class. Prepare, schedule days out to study, write definitions as you go, use study guide.
we had maybe 4 assignments other than midterm and final, so overall hard to get a decent grade. participation in class MATTERS, heavy on the no phone rule and tardy. Lecture heavy and most of her lectures don't make any sense to what she is actually speaking on. PROTIP if she has vocab to define and all the directions say is define, ADD EXAMPLES!
She was okay. This class was super hard and she offers no extra credit. I really tried my best in this class and barely made it. I would not recommend this class at all.
I learned so much in her class and I plan on pursuing a minor in Women/Gender Studies! If you think this will be another liberal/feminist class, you're wrong. Honestly, I think you're missing out if you don't take this class. Exams are a breeze if you always attend class, take notes, and read the textbook.
I have had her for womens studdies and history 8 online. She is an extremely though graderand refused to bring my C+ to a B, even though I am a student with disabilities. She is one of those proferssors who cares to the point of harsh grading. The fact that history is my best subject and I got a C is diappointing. Good documentries for wmst.
Dr. Bengiveno made her course very enjoyable. There was a good mixture of projects/presentations and reading, but I never felt overwhelmed. She is great at leading discussions and the content she teaches is interesting and thoughtful. She is very knowledgeable and responds well to questions about the work or the concepts! Highly recommend.
Dr. Bengiveno is a nice lady, but I do not recommend her as a teacher. She is very unclear in her assignment instructions, grades harshly, and then gives vague feedback. She doesn't't explain how she wants you to do the assignment, and doesn't give any feedback to explain what you did "wrong". She gives a heavy amount of work.
the lectures were so interesting but once you do the assignments i feel like she finds a way to take points away. I LOVE history but she made is so unenjoyable with the way she graded everything. don't recommend
The class mean every assignment was around 60%. I dont know how you can see this as a teacher and not think your way of grading it wrong. Please do not take her, her grading is extremely harsh.
Do not recommend this Teacher. Very inflexible, punitive and difficult. I met every requirement and still was marked down on most assignments. 3 weeks before end of semester she severely marked down an assignment and grade went from A to C with no chance to recover. Worked so hard in class and had to withdraw so my 4.0 did not suffer.
This is genuinely the worst professor I have ever had. DO NOT take her, save yourself a semester of frustration. Completely heartless person, grades without a clear rubric and will mark off things with no reason or explanation. Makes you pay for videos for the class. Her tests are worded to make you fail. She should seriously consider retiring.
Tougher grader than my hard science classes. Would do my best on papers, she would always point out something wrong; Instructions are vague. If you are looking for a history class on the lighter side DON'T TAKE HER. She makes you do 3 essays per midterm and final yet only grades 2 of them essentially making you write an extra essay for no reason.
She is very inconsiderate of the time that students put in on her discussions, giving terrible instructions and giving out terrible scores. Did not even know there were 2 books for the class until the midterm. Do not take the class as it is near impossible to get an A
I never thought that I would leave a rating for a professor like this, but for this one I have to. This is my last semester at Las Positas and I just completed my final for Women's Studies with Prof. Bengiveno and I can confidently say this was the hardest, rudest and least understanding professor I have ever had. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!
Extremely hard professor and not understanding or compassionate at all. I never recommend you take her unless you want to be graded extremely harshly and have to write a lot of papers. She makes midterms and final extremely hard to pass. I average an A or B for history and English classes, so it tells how awful she is.
Dr. Bengiveno's class was ok. I wouldn't take her again, her grading was often inconsistent, and she didn't seem very understanding of outside circumstances, nor did she offer any extra credit. I feel like certain assignments she made longer for no reason, which was a waste of time as a college student with a job and 4 other classes.
Will take points off using any created reason. Looks for answers supposedly based off of textbook or provided material, yet the desired answer requires outside sources, which is explicitly prohibited. It's a "catch twenty-two" of sorts. Would not recommend studying. Studying will actually set you up for failure with this Professor.
Harsh grader. gives the most vague instructions and I do exactly what she says and then she takes points off for other things. Class average is never good. Whoever is giving these good reviews is a a** kisser. Like c'mon it's history, if we get what happened, when it happened, and why it happened why are you taking all these points off.
I am a few classes away from graduating and this has been one of, if not the most involved class I have taken. Like many said, she is a tough grader and there is a lot of work to be done for this class. Be prepared for 2 midterms (I have never had 2 midterms in any other class), multiple big assignments that need even more reading, and tough exams.
This class is no walk in the park. The professor is a tough grader, with lots of work and unclear instructions. But the lectures are engaging. Try using unstuck study and the textbook to stay on top of it.
This is extremely difficult. The majority will not pass this class. More than 60% dropped at the week of the deadline. Difficult grader. Looks for any reason to take points off.
Will take points off for any reason. You have to write at a dissertation level. Be warned.
Takes points off for EVERY LITTLE THING! Even things not stated in the rubric. Few assignments, so god forbid you forget to turn one in cuz your grade will drop by a whole letter. No late work accepted. Unclear instructions. Please please please do not take this teacher please!!!
Would not recommend this teacher. Very unclear directions and expectations. Tough grader but also makes you feel incompetent when asking for clarification on assignments. You will never receive full credit. She is a " no student can receive an 100%" type of teacher. Teachers should push students to excel in class, not make them feel inadequate.
