do not take this teacher believeing that she will cut you any slack!!! she only likes certain people in her class, other than that your'e**** out of luck.

I didnt take Calc in HS and I was 'lost' for much of the course. She makes mistakes in class/on the board which = confusion. Offered a lot of extra help outside class. Homework is easy and its counts as a test grade. She also drops your lowest test and replaces 2nd lowest with the final. I failed the first 2 tests and got a B in the class.
Although she does make mistakes on the board, she admits it and uses this to help engage students in the material. The material is fairly difficult, but White is very lenient and offers a lot of help. She pushes back tests and homework when asked by the class and practically does the webassign for you in class. Just make sure to study for exams.
Sometimes her lectures are a little confusing, but if you have any problems she's very willing to help you. She doesn't call roll, but if she sees you in class and at office hours she's more inclined to help your grade. She'll postpone anything if the class asks and her bonus question on tests are pretty fun and completely unrelated to math.
really easy! she goes over all homework in class [web assign] and gives you the answers. only 3 tests + final.made A's on all of them. Its like 3rd grade math. probability, statistics, logic, and sets. if you need help, she'll help you. she makes careless errors sometimes. with the right amount of begging, she'll push the test back. TAKE HER!
She is very unorganized when she teaches!!!! It is impossible to take good notes with her....you don't know where what came from or how he got the answer. She moves stuff around the board in an unorganized way. I don't know about the rest of you, but I need organization in my notes or else i can't learn it!! I wish she took the time to write out the steps she is doing so we understand it the first time rather than asking all these questions and having to go to someone else for help!
This class is not easy, even if you took calculus I in high school. Her exams are very long and all the teacher assistants grade differently from each other. However, White is extremely helpful during her office hours. She is also willing to take a second look at your exam. She also teaches relatively fast so take notes quickly!
This class was a nightmare. Her notes on the board are a jumbled mess, her explanations are foggy at best, and then there's the the test schedule. There were no tests in the first half of the semester, but after the midterm (the first test), she crams in four more tests before the final. Homework is plentiful, with short, unpredictable due dates.
Dr. White is not a bad teacher. Sure every now and then she might make a mistake or go fast, but all you have to do is tell her to slow down. She's willing to go over a problem as many times as you need, and will help you after class. She will move test dates too, if you ask. Also, it doesn't matter if you took Calculus in high school. Go to class.
She is an awful teacher. She goes really fast and does a pretty bad job at explaining her material. Tons of Hw that could be due at any time without you knowing. If you miss a test she will make you suffer even if you had good reason. Try to avoid
She doesn't teach well, and the online program at we used to do homework (WebAssign) is absolutely horrible. WebAssign is ensive and always crashes, it is so difficult to submit answers correctly. Pray for a TA who is generous and can teach. USE PATRICK JMT via YOUTUBE!!! He is the absolute best study tool.
She isn't the easiest to understand, but she is very good about telling you what to know for exams, and her exam problems are straightforward and not difficult. If you do the homework problems she gives you from the book at the beginning of the class to study, you will see all the test questions. She's not bad at all for calculus.
Attendance is not taken during lecture MWF, but is taken during lab on TTH along with quizzes. Going to class is recommended, though you'll rely on your TA to learn most of the material. She replaces your lowest test grade with what you get on the final! Also drops some of your lowest homework grades, which you can see due dates for on WebAssign.
Only went to classes where the TA took attendance, but he did a terrible job at it because I still got some zeros for it which brought my grade down to a 79 and he wouldn’t bump it up. I barely studied. This class was cake.
Great teacher. Takes some getting used to her teaching style but ended up learning a lot. Her test are exactly like her reviews and problems given in class.
She makes lots of mistakes on the board and sometimes spends way too long to figure out something that doesn't matter. She does care about your attendance and will look at it to determine how much she is going to help you out. Isn't a horrible teacher but also not the best at all. Do ALL your homework and show up to class and you will do fine.
THIS TEACHER IS THE WORST TEACHER EVER! She writes her notes all over the board, just starts talking and working problems with no explanation, homework is due whenever, constantly berates the class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Very confusing and sarcastic, I want to drop her class but can't because no more openings. TRY TO AVOID TAKING TERRIE WHITE AT ALL COST. She confuses you and you would do much better not going to class and teaching yourself the material.
Terrie doesn't come prepared to class and often messes up on problems while working in class. Attendance is definitely NOT mandatory. I mainly learned using the Webassign Watch it videos. They're super helpful. Her tests are simple problems and quite easy if you know how to do the easyish problems. I'd recommend if you are good at math otherwise no
confusing lectures, but tests are not difficult. if you have taken calculus before, you should be maybe okay, if you're good at math. the lab attendance is mandatory though.
She is not a hard teacher when it comes to taking her test. She doesn't try to trick you with overly complicated problems which I found to be great. The webassign is a great way to help your grade! She tries to come off really rude the first month if you ask questions but as the semester goes she gets nicer if you truly have a good question.
The class was not that hard if you go to class everyday. The only problem I had with the class was the amount of mistakes that she made on the board. People normally corrected her but it was kind of confusing sometimes. Tests are not bad if you do the book problems and pay attention to what she says is going to be on them.
Most terrible teacher ever.
Terrie White pretty much defines LSU and most of the people at LSU. She doesn't really care about teaching and isn't very smart. She can barely do basic math. On almost every problem she worked in class she made a mistake. WebAssign was terrible because if you asked her a question about it she would try and work it and it would be wrong. Don't take
Dr. White is a decent professor, she definitely makes you earn your grade. I had never taken calculus before so I was thrown straight into the lions den, but after the first test I got a feel for the class. She will gladly go over problems in class if you ask her to.
Worst prof. I've ever had. Thrives on students failure. Doesnt teach the material well, often works problems wrong, and gives bad info. Tests were unnecessarily harder. I made As on nearly every quiz and hw yet failed her exams. Going to recitation and working problems in the book was the only way I understood the material. AVOID IF CAN!
She's makes things harder than they should be! Rushes through everything! Make sure you do all hw in time because sometimes it could be 2-3 sections due on the same day and another 1-2 sections do within 2 days! She's not there for her students, she will act or put on this persona as if she'll help you pass but doesn't! TAKE SOMEONE ELSE IF TOU CAN
Never took Calc before and had poor math background, although made B in class. She makes you work for your grade. Do your homework, go to Lab, study hard and you'll be fine. her lectures are decent, but be ready to study on your own. She works a lot of HW problems in class. Good teacher.
She's not that bad. You just have to work for your grade. This is a 5 hour class, so just try to study a little every day before the exam. She gives you clear idea of what topics will be the exam, but just make sure you practice! Definitely not easy, will have to work hard. Homework get to be a lot sometimes. Her stories are pretty funny.
Terrie White is one of my favorite professors at LSU. Yes, this is Calculus, and yes it is a hard course but Terrie is straight forward with her tests. She'll tell you exactly what you have to study. I don't know why she has so many bad ratings, but I recieved an A in this class. As long as you study you'll be fine. And Terrie IS willing to help.
She provides all the necessary tools and instruction for you to go learn it on you own and apply it in the homework and exams. Very helpful. Exams are fair. If you are not a self-starterlearner you will not do well in her class or in engineering in general. If her class was hard for you, you may have picked the wrong major.
DO NOT TAKE!!! This class is great for somebody who likes a big challenge. By challenge, I mean having to teach yourself calculus in its entirety with absolutely no help from the professor. She constantly makes mistakes and depends on students to correct her work, she is all over the place and makes little to no sense rambling on and on.
Today I literally taught the class because she doesn't know how to do calculus
Honestly didn't attend class with Terrie too often since she basically just goes over stuff the book covers, which incidentally is what every Calculus class is like. If you attend the TA sessions and spend a lot of time doing homework you'll be fine.
If it's not too late, drop her and pick up some other calc course with a different teacher. She is by far the worst math teacher I've ever had. Have fun teaching yourself calculus. The lab sessions weren't too helpful either.
Terrie White is awesome! She's not always clear on stuff, but you can figure it out on your own. Test are VERY easy, and I haven't made below a 100 on any of them. Very easy class!
She's not horrible. But only take her as a last resort. There are much better math teachers on campus.
Attending class wastes time. Go to the labs for attendance. They aren't too helpful either, depends on who you get. It's hard to trust her teaching, and she doesn't explain when incorrectly working the problems. Not a bad person, just not efficient. Study the textbook and supplemental videos daily. The tests are simple. Calc was new to me.
She is very unprepared and generally can't solve her own problems. Tests are fairly easy though and if you get a good TA the class is easier.
Ms. White is okay. I have seen calculus before, so the class was easy. However, if you have never taken calculus before, avoid her. She struggles to answer her own example problems and often skips steps so she is hard to follow. If you know the material, her tests should be easy. Do the recommended problems from the book, those are often your test!
Professor White is a very sweet woman and cares about her students. At times her lessons can be spotty at best, but she is willing to go over any problem if you bring it to her during review days. If you miss one day she may have taught two sections in the day so I recommend going to class. Overall Terrie isn't a bad teacher.
This class is a SELF TEACH class, so if you are really dependent on the professor teaching you, the odds of making a good grade are low! Her tests are fairly easy, meaning you she really does not put any tricky questions on there. Attendance is a hit or miss, sometimes she gives you important notes for the test, and GO TO TEST REVIEW DAYS
The class itself was easy but she does not teach. Expect to teach yourself. She constantly works her example problems wrong. If you are an independent student, this is the class for you. If you need help learning the concepts, avoid at all costs.
Easy Class Best Calculus teacher. Easy A
Wouldn't request this class to anyone! She grades horribly and doesn't actually take the time to explain problems at all! She writes on the board and that's all you will see all semester!
Understandable teaching.
Don't teach very good
Do not take this teacher, ever.
calc itself is tough but her tests are really straight forward IF you dont skip lectures and practice the examples she gives in class. she'll go over any problems you have from the homework and also gives a list of problems from the book that are similar to the ones on the test so you know what to expect. Also good with partial credit!
Terri White was an amazing Calc teacher. She went at a steady pace, and made sure to answer any student questions. Her tests are fairly straightforward, and will be simple if you do the online homework (which is mandatory and fairly abundant). The online homeworks are usually harder than the test questions.
GO to class, because Terrie basically tells you what the test questions will be as she teaches each chapter. Tests are straightforward and extremely fair, not impossible to make a 100 and there's a 3 point bonus on every test. Definitely more of a self-teach class, I used WebAssign and the textbook to teach myself the material.
DO NOT SKIP LECTURE. Great professor and very clear. Bring her any questions and unclear problems and she'll go through it step by step. She basically tells you exactly what to expect on each exam, so take note if she tells you specific textbook problems. Take her if you actually need to learn the material.
Calc 1 doesn't get any easier than this! Take TW if you want a good grade. I'd never done calc and it wasn't bad at all. She teaches you little tricks to solve problems that are easier than the books way of doing them. Can be confusing at times but ask questions and she will work extra problems for you until you get it. Great class! Also very funny
White was a good teacher. She explains very clearly what to expect on tests and tells you when she's working out problems in class if you will see it on the test. Recitation helps a lot so don't miss it. If you go to class & actually listen or take notes you can't fail. She drops your lowest test and a few homeworks. Definitely take her for calc
Go to class, take notes, LISTEN, sometimes she explains things poorly, but just ask her about it after and she may clear it up. She wants you to succeed so just make an effort and for God's sake go to every single TA session. Also try to do the textbook assignments she posts on moodle, they help.
Overall an OK prof. Web Assign and 4 tests + final make up your grade. Web Assign is tedious, but she often extended the due date and dropped lowest 5 grades. She tells you what to expect on the test the day before, so be sure you show up. The tests are fair, partial credit is given. If I had put in effort i could've gotten an A, but i was lazy.
Doesn't explain sections enough and makes the information very confusing. Assumes everyone knows what they're doing and continues on. I took Claculus in high school and understood it 100x better than the lazy way she teaches.
She doesn't teach well but her tests are EXACT problems she does in class. Go to class she tells you the problems, work them with different numbers and you'll pass. She even tells you exactly whats on the final. Just go to class to get the problems and go to youtube to learn it! (i never realized how easy it was until now) oh and keep up hw
She doesn't really teach. She talks about her high school days, and she forgets how to do the problems she writes on the board.
Absolutely probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had in my entire years of school. Can't even remember how to do basic arithmetic at times and will fill up the board with problems without explaining anything. She forgets how to do problems and will sometimes erase everything she did due to forgetting a number or adding wrong.
Awful. Cant get through ONE problem without wasting 5-10minutes while she looks for her mistake. Too political in class. Does tell you what to expect on tests. But god its impossible to learn through the unorganized, messy, lazy, horrendous method she uses. Learned everything through the webassign videos and kahn academy.
Ms. White enjoys math, but she does an absolutely horrible job of teaching it. She does not explain how she got an answer, or will go back and change it at the end of class. Tons of HW that doesnt help learn the material since shes bad at teaching it. Theres a reason LSU gives her a bulk of the 1550 sections that never fill up until the deadline...
shes not a great teacher, she puts problems on the board that she doesnt know the answers to before hand and gets them wrong. Shes unprepared and unorganized while lecturing. If you can teach calculus to yourself/are studious/ TOOK CALC BEFORE, this class probably isnt bad, but it was horrible for me.
Pretty hard tests compared to what I see in friend's calc courses. I was not fond of her lectures and had to teach myself quite a bit, but the style may be for some. She sometimes forgets how to do something or does something wrong in the middle of doing it. She also randomly changes homework due dates, so check WebAssign frequently.
NEVER EVER TAKE TERRIE WHITE. Professor taught by just wirting stuff one the board and then expects you to already know how to work the problems. She also makes many mistakesand her TA's are honestly much better teachers than she is. She is the only professor I have ever heard of where a student has felt smarter than her.
Awful teacher. Does not care about students or how she teaches. Just expects you to get it. Puts random problems on the board that pertain to the material and for most of the time doesn't finish or forgets how too. Class has been a waste of time. Homework has been a waste of time. Have to go over problems from old test and textbook.
Randomly changes homework dates.
Tests are do-able, but she is a horrible teacher. If you are in independent learner, you will be ok. Otherwise, you're screwed
She makes lots of mistakes when working problems in class. She also occasionally goes on random rants. Like to yell at kids who never come to class
Honestly the people complaining about the difficulty of the class didn't take time do read the syllabus for the class. You are expected to spend like 3 hours a day outside of class doing problems so that you are prepared for the lecture the next day. The people saying she expects you to know what is going on didn't put in the effort to succeed.
It is not hard, just different math. You should have no problem pulling an A here. Significantly better choice than Harhad which a lot of people prefer. Just expect some complaining about Donald Trump she was pretty good about leaving it out of lecture most of the time, though it did pop up a few times at the end of the semester
AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS.
Very nice woman, not a skilled communicator.
she's the best math professor for math 1550
I had high enough ACT and ALEKS score to take this class, but she made it so hard. When someone asks a question, she acts offended that someone wouldn't understand what she is trying to teach. Tests are also very hard and long. She moves very fast and she doesn't do many example problems, she leaves that for you to figure out.
Her test are practically the exact same every year! I found some through noteswap, studied them, and made 95-101 on all tests. She makes it clear how she wants you to solve problems for the test, so if you do it how she says, she'll give you most of the points even if the final answer is wrong. Bonus points on test are logic puzzles.
I read the reviews before scheduling her class and I was afraid, but most of them were lies shes a great person but some students disturb the class.
Does not teach. Assumes you know everything from "previous calculus classes". If you're going to take her, you better have taken calculus already, either in highschool or retaking this. The TAs that you see once a week show you how to do things better than she does in a whole week. She is nice and funny sometimes in class, but she is tough.
Honestly not that bad. Find tests from previous semesters to study and you will be fine.
She is not the best teacher, but the tests are very easy and they give a lot of extra credit. Also if you go to her office hours and ask why you got points off on a certain questions, she will usually give you some points back. You dont have to go to class every day.
If you are great at math and can follow along without every step being shown, then you should do fine. If, however, you need every step shown and not just mentioned out loud, then you'll fail. If you have a question, they'll just repeat whatever they just said like you'll understand it the second time around without actually trying to explain it.
People give Terrie a bad wrap but she actually explains how she wants you to work out each problem to get full credit and as she's going through the material she will literally tell you which problems will be on the test. She does give a lot of homework, but that comes with any math class.
She may not be one of the best teachers, but she is the easiest. Her tests are super easy. You just have to look over tests from previous years. Looking over those will guarantee you a B or above. Also, she is a very nice lady. If you go to her office hours and ask her to look over your test, she will give you points on a question for no reason.
Terrie is a terrible professor. She spends more time ranting about politics and reflecting back on her highschool days than she does actually teaching calculus. When she does try to teach, she constantly crosses things out and rewrites them or just stares at the board trying to figure out her mistake. I had to teach myself pretty much everything
Don't know why so many people are complaining about her. She is not the most interesting professor, but come on people, this is calc, how you would expect her to entertain you. Otherwise, once you come to most of the classes and ask her for help, while struggling she will help you out. And she gives a lot of extra credit.
She often messes up on the board. It's math though, everyone messes up. Study professonr leonard on youtube and study the previous practice tests. I made an A because I studied. This is a 5 hour course, so you are expected to spend more time on calculus. Her tests are rather easy, in my opinion anyways. Study PREVIOUS TESTS. GO TO CLASS for bonuspt
Dont take this class if youve never taken calculus. She gives no intro into the material she just starts going at it like you already know it. Really bad at teaching and often messes up.
Terrie White is an awesome professor, but you really need to love math to get through this class. She goes fast, so if you don't have a good foundation, it's hard. She actually explains everything and will take time to answer questions. She makes the homework very difficult, but the tests have a moderate level of difficulty.
If considering Dr. White for 1550, I could only recommend if you have taken a calculus course before or have an impeccable understanding of your core maths; meeting these conditions, Dr. White is a fantastic professor if you let her be, however if you are pessimistic, you may as well take another course, it's calculus.
I am NOT good at math, and complained about this class all semester. In the end, however, my grade turned out just fine because the homework is a guaranteed A that is a definite grade boost and the final replaces your lowest test grade! The teacher is not the best, but as with all math classes, practice makes perfect.
Easy class as long as you pay attention and do your homework.
Terri White is a GOOD teacher. If you go to class, listen and study 2 days before the test you WILL pass. This is a 5 hour credit so you need a good teacher!! She was a GPA booster for me. HIGHLY recommend especially if you are good at math/ took calc in high school.
Do, and I cannot stress this enough, NOT take professor white. I mean literally take anyone else unless you're a math genius (even recommend taking this course at BRCC). Rate my professor says enough about her but if you insist on taking her, get ready to teach yourself and maybe even spot a tutor. I had to drop this class because it is that bad!
I loved Terrie White's class! I didn't find her tests to be too challenging, for calculus especially. As long as you study well for each exam, you should be fine. I never went to class and still ended with an A.
Prof White is not a good teacher. Several times throughout the semester students would correct the work she'd done on the board for a problem and she would just erase all that she'd done and move onto another problem. Do not take her but if you do you should definitely get a tutor. Even the TA would get angry at us for not understanding a problem
Professor White is a great Professor. If you want to have an A+ in the class, then go to her office hours and go to class everyday. I would recommend practicing the textbook problems to be ready for the tests. Overall, Dr. White is really caring towards her students and their success, so please put in the effort to study and do the homework.
Disregard the grade I said I received (I just finished my first week with this lady). She's terrible. Do not take this class unless you took calculus in high school and are confident in your math skills. She does a grand total of 1-2 problems a class, and does not explain her math well AT ALL. I thought the SI would be my saving grace. No.
She has no idea what shes talking about the whole time.
Writes extremely small on the whiteboard and talks way to fast. If you ask her to slow down or write bigger you get flat out ignored. The first thing she said when we arrived on the first day was "30% of you will fail my first exam." If you know this without knowing any information about your students, the your students are not the problem Terrie.
Terrible professor. She is corrected 5-6 times by students when she should be teaching students, not students teaching her. If you haven't taken a calculus class before, do not take Ms. White. Tests are worth 100 points with only about 8-10 questions. In the end, you'll end up teaching yourself.
Get through the first month, and you'll like her more. This class was easy for me because I took calc in high school. She makes a few mistakes in class, and is corrected a lot by students. Calc is hard, so be prepared to study, but she does not give you unreasonably hard questions on the test. Homework is harder than the test.
Not the best calc teacher. She knows what she is talking about, but she moves very fast and sometimes goes off on tangents. Your best bet at passing is to go to her office hours because hardly anyone ever goes and watch calculus videos on youtube by the organic chemistry tutor. However she does extend due dates on homeworks.
Terrie's class can be described like this: "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering." - Master Yoda. Be prepared to work. Homework is hard and her test are relatively meh (some easy, some hard). She is very nice, but she does have problems with her lawn mower. Advice: PRACTICE EVERY DAY!
Professor White is a good choice for calculus if you have taken it in high school. If you are new to calculus, she does not really teach the material very well and most students often get confused. She is kinda in her own little world to be honest and she can get frustrated if people start asking questions about how to do the things she just taught
This class was interesting but not impossible. You really have to work for it. I did not take calculus in high school, and the first few weeks were very rough. I eventually started to understand things but not without a lot of time spent outside class studying. Skipping this class is a little dangerous unless you have a friend who takes good notes.
Really easy to get a hold of previous tests. All homework answers can be found online. Class can be boring at times but don't last long.
LOVE PROF WHITE! I failed my 1st try at Calculus with professor Harhad. White has multiple ways to explain the materials and she welcomes questions and stays after class to rexplain things for you, all tests have a bonus riddle on it and if you talk to her about your mistakes on the test she will give you some points back, TAKE WHITE FOR CALCULUS
Professor White's class is like that of a usual calculus class. How you do depends on how much work you put in and who your TA is. Best piece of advice I would give is to do all of the homeworks and show up to 100% of the TA sessions on Fridays. Easy points for doing so
If you have taken Calculus before and did well, take this class because you will not actually have to go to class. If you have never seen Calculus before I promise this is not the teacher for you. You will not understand what she is writing on the board so I recommend taking another teacher or learn how to teach yourself Calculus during this course
Dr. White is relatively unenthusiastic and old school. She refuses to accept that she makes mathematical mistakes (at the expense of her students). Calc 1 is not tough material, however if you have no previous experience, I would recommend either getting a tutor or finding someone who knows what they are doing. Tests are not hard if you study.
Go to class on Friday.
White isnt as bad as everyone makes her seem. If youve taken Calculus before taking her should be an GPA booster. If you havent taken Calculus like me before then get ready to utilize tutors and YouTube videos. She teaches at very quick pace like you already know calculus. She lets you know whats going to be on the test a day before.
Make sure you take notes and actively practice the concepts. Professor White may be dry at times, but she does have funny moments and can explain new theorems very well. If it's your first time taking calc, you have to put in a lot if work. Several ratings in here are from freshmen who failed. Go to her office hours if you need help.
After reading through Professor Whites reviews here, I decided to chance it. My first warning to others taking Calculus 1, DO NOT cheat the ALEKS just to get into this class. It will show. Aside from that, she was extremely knowledgable and cared for her students success. Come to class, participate and STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor White does not teach. I have this class in the middle of COVID and the only things I learn are from CAS tutors and my TA (who struggles to speak english but does his best). If you value your mental health and sanity, do not take this class with Professor White. We use cengage for homework and that is essentially where I am teaching myself
im currently taking prof. white in the middle of the pandemic and she is not helpful AT ALL. she started out the sem by telling us she wouldnt lecture, then halfway through she gets mad that nobody attends her zoom lectures (that arent remotely helpful). the shell tutorial center study groups/cas tutoring are your best bet if you want to pass.
DO NOT TAKE TERRIE WHITE!!! She has proven to be the worst math teacher I have ever had on many occasions. I taught myself everything for this class and I attended the online lectures, even though she would neverknow how to work the problem and end up asking the students for help. DO NOT GIVE HER THE BENEFIT OF DOUBT LIKE I DID. You will regret it.
do. not. take. never learned less from a professor. had to drop because i had no idea how to do anything, and it's worth 5 credits so it really hurt to drop.
horrible. took her in the middle of a pandemic and she couldnt care less about us. i had to drop the class since she said she 1) wouldnt teach us and 2) when we brought it up to the dean, she was rude to us and didnt change anything about her teaching style. DONT TAKE HER
My first semester of college and this is the class that made me cry every night. In person on Fridays with quizzes every time which caused my growing dependency on alcohol. Only good thing about this class is that it gave me motivation to go out on weekends so I could blackout and forget about it for a few hours.
1st week of class I actually went to the zoom calls. By the 3rd week of class I had to stop because she messes everything up! She even asks US what is wrong when we haven't even learned the topic yet. If you didn't take calc in Highschool DO NOT TAKE HER! Also every Friday there is a quiz, DONT SKIP! The TA does give partial credit on exams though
Makes so many mistakes that she has students correcting her. Rants and whines half of the time, so the zoom lectures are worthless. She did this for literally the last 30 minutes one day. If you take her, you better be in tutoring everyday. WIth that said, her tests problems are on the easier side and not nearly as insane as the homework.
If you didn't talk calculus in high school DO NOT take prof White. She is not a good teacher and makes far too many mistakes while teaching. She moves very fast through lessons that require more time and drones on through easy material. Her tests were like the previous ones she gives, and that was the only positive I can give that class.
Honestly, if you have taken Calculus before, this class will be a breeze. If you haven't, you should be okay because the tests themselves are very straight forward. She answers questions on zoom during class time. You have to go to the TA sessions once a week in order to get credit, do the homeworks, and take the tests- Calc I could be a lot worse!
Make sure if you havent taken Calc before to put in extra work. The tests are graded very nicely and generously. Each test usually has a 3 point bonus on it. Make sure to go to Zoom class, she will help you with any homework youre struggling with. Also, she posts practice tests that are very similar to the real tests.
In my opinion, Professor White has a bit of a bad rep which she really doesnt deserve. Shes a good teacher and she knows how to teach the material well. Class is not mandatory but definitely go! The lectures she posts online are not her own but in class she basically re-teaches the material. Also make sure you go to lab sessions with the TA.
she hardly responded to any email i sent her throughout the semester; got answers to simple yes or no questions, but never for ANYTHING else; gives short lecture videos of other people that dont explain much; she gives notes in blue COLORED PENCIL, making it hard to read; had to ask students for help on zoom bc she couldnt work out problems
She was not very good. She had zoom meetings weekly that I didn't even know about until halfway through the course. She was rude in emails. She didn't record lectures; instead, you had to watch videos made by other people that she posted on Moodle. I'm genuinely worried I will fail calculus 2 because I didn't learn all too much from her.
She doesn't teach BUT the practice exams she posts are identical to the test. She is extremely unorganized and will often change due dates without telling anyone so check Moodle and WebAssign daily. For WebAssign... it will pile up on you if you don't keep up with it. If you're okay with teaching yourself, just use the practice tests and you're ok
Terrie is terrible at explaining the material. She never replies to emails. After tests are completed it takes weeks to get your grade back. She would always cram sections in before the test and it was impossible to learn without using outside resources.
horrible. once someone asked her to show her how to do something and she said "give me an actual problem, I'll solve it. this class would be boring if I actually sat and taught like a normal class" pop quizzes at the end of every lab. never responds to emails (and when she does, she's rude)
Terrie White is nice, she tends to ramble sometimes in class though. You definitely need to understand the material to succeed though, if you are unexperienced with calculus you will probably struggle in this class.
This was a terrible experience. You cannot email her because she openly says she wont check her email. She isnt clear at all, and i stayed confused the entire class. She doesnt answer questions clearly. Her grader takes 3 weeks to grade test, so you never know where you stand in the class. The worst calc teacher at LSU.
cant hear, very confusing I dropped out
If you haven't taken calculus before it's gonna be rough. She just seems kinda mean for no reason. If you have her online then you can use her zoom class to ask questions which was helpful.
I am very good at math, but she made it looks so difficult and I had a hard time comprehending what she was telling us. I'm in the middle of taking her class, but I am failing rn because she is so hard to understand. It is very hard to understand what she is writing on the board. She writes so fast and is very confusing!
You will not learn anything from her. Be prepared to teach yourself. Shes all over the place and you can never understand anything she says. I dont think she even understands herself. Half the time she didnt even put the answer on the board. If you can take anyone else, do it.
If you take Terrie White you NEED a tutor. otherwise you wont pass. I never go to class and I have a tutor that teaches me everything way better than she teaches. You will not understand anything she tries to teach. However, the practice tests are almost identical to her tests so if you can do those, you will do well on the exam.
The tests are very similar to the practice tests she gives out. Study these beforehand and you can pass. There is a significant amount of homework in this class, so make sure to do it. If you think you can cheat on your Aleks placement exam and take this class without any prior calculus knowledge, you will fail within the first week :)
Before taking Terrie, I didn't hear good things about her. But honestly the class is what you make out of it. If you ask her questions, she will try to explain it to you. I think she cares about a good deal about the success of her students. I personally recommend her!
Terrie isn't as awful as I thought, but her way of teaching can be very confusing and she tends to go pretty fast. I've never taken calculus in highschool so I felt I wasn't as prepared as other students. However, I passed by watching Youtube vids of other teachers teaching the same topic in a clearer way. Final replaces lowest grade.
She's not the worse but she doesn't answer emails, she doesn't explain the meaning behind what she's teaching. I had to get calc tutoring from my highschool teacher. without him I probably would not have passed even tho I took calc the year before. She's nice but her teaching is very confusing. Her tests and practice test are very similar though.
Literally mean to students all the time
Confusing, lectures are hard to follow, doesnt have any kind of lecture notes to refer back to.
Professor White is not a very good teacher anymore. As a student, I could tell that she hated her job. She was not very enthusiastic and she was very quiet when she taught. If you weren't sitting in the front you would not be able to hear her lecture. Her class is not very entertaining or engaging whatsoever, and I would dread her class daily.
Terrie was a nice person but, didn't round up my 69 so that kinda wasn't cool. Tests are doable look at the practice exams. I always had chem and calc exams on the same day so it was hard to study for her class. she changes some stuff from practice exams to the real thing but they're pretty helpful. never email her she won't read them.
I took this class wary due to the ratings here, but after the first couple of weeks realized that Terrie is really quite a good professor. Sometimes she stumbles, but is very willing to listen to students. Sit at the front of her class, be a good student, interact with her, and you will do fine. Homework is harder than tests and gives practice test
Class was difficult to follow and I had to hire a different teacher to tutor me. Had to teach myself the material for the first half of the semester and the second half had to rely on outside help. Was unhelpful in office hours as well
Her teaching style is very confusing, and half the time she doesn't remember how to solve certain problems because she has to rework them multiple times in class because she "messed up." I took calculus in high school, so my grade was good but be prepared for her TAs to take off points if you don't solve the problem the way she wants.
Professor White was not a good teacher. She teaches in a very confusing way and often messed up during her lectures. She did not really explain how to solve the problems and gave a ton of homework that was often way harder than the tests. It was really a waste of time to sit in lectures because you would not learn anything and would be confused.
Terrie seemed like a very nice person and she is very smart. However, her teaching was not good and she does not connect with her students. Attendance in class was mandatory but at the end of the day I left class more confused than I was walking into class. Class was pointless because her teaching wasn't proficient.
Her class was not too bad. I took calculus in high school, and my previous knowledge really helped me because she is not really a great teacher. If there is something you do not understand it is very easy to find videos to help Her practice test were typically harder than the real exams, but I would definitely recommend studying them very hard.
If you haven't taken calculus before, this class will be a struggle. Professor White isn't the best at teaching, so I found myself confused almost every time I attended class. Do all the homeworks to help your grade and repeatedly to the practice tests to prepare for her real tests. She seems knowledgeable, but her class wasn't the most enjoyable.
Horrible
Stufents do more teaching than the actual teacher. Very uneducated and confused on everything she says . Writes the wrong problem on the board and always has to get corrected
No. Just no
DONT. Professor White is very educated on the subject but does not know how to teach and makes simple mistakes which students constantly have to fix. She doesn't explain how to find answers just writes them on the board and expects us to know how she got it. DO NOT take this class especially if you already struggle with math.
DONT TAKE HER.
i actually liked terrie, just not a good teacher. i didnt take calc in high school and on day one she was flying over concepts saying we should already know them. did not explain anything just did problems wrong on the board and had to be corrected by students.but the tests were pretty easy and shes pretty entertaining. just have to teach yourself
I came into this class without any knowledge in Calculus and very cautious of the ratings, but I can whole heartedly say that it's definitely possible. A bit tough but if you participate and practice, you'll be fine. The homework is harder than the tests, and the tests are similar to the practice tests. Use your past tests to study for the final.
You have to go to class. If you do not do the problems the exact way she wants you to, you will get almost no credit.
DO NOT take her if you have no prior knowledge of calculus, she is a terrible teacher and the lectures do not help whatsoever. She cannot even work her own example problems and has to constantly be corrected by students. She does not respond to emails and did not put in a single homework or quiz grade until the day final grades were due.
I went into this class with prior calculus knowledge from high school, but ended up performing extremely poorly on the tests. The class was kind of disorganized and a lot of it you end up having to teach yourself. I do like terrie as a person, but she wasn't the best at teaching. Practice on your old tests before the final to study and go to class.
So bad. I spent *way* more time on this course than any I've ever taken and had to withdraw before even taking an exam. "Lectures" are Word docs with about 2 example problems. It'd be impossible to pass with the material provided. Doesn't read class forum. Email answer I did get was terse and didn't answer my questions. Avoid at all costs.
She's nice, but you have to put in the work if you want the grade and learn to be responsible of your work. Study her practice exams before the exam and the problems you're given at class and you should be fine.
Took calculus for the first time with her and would not recommend. She doesn't really teach the material, she more so just writes her notes, which are all from the textbook, down on the board and expects us to then know how to apply that information to problems. Also doesn't really answer ques. til the class right before the exam.
Every lecture I attended students were correcting her mistakes while she was teaching. Be prepared to do a lot of homework but her homework is a lot harder than her tests. The tutoring LSU provides taught me more than she did. Occasionally checks attendance for a participation grade.
She hates her job and is often corrected by students. Not the nicest
Worst teacher in the world. Feel like she does not know what she is talking about half the time and just reads off a piece of paper. Does not explain anything and just expects you to know everything before taking the course.
no break down of materials properly, tend to expect you to know most of the material on your own
PLEASE DONT TAKE HER
The bad reviews are exaggerating. The grade you receive is the amount of work you put in. If you have questions, go to her office during office hours, and she'll gladly help you. My recommendation is if you want that A, then study the practice exams (the format is the same, but the problem can be a little different), go over the problems in class
Professor White's class is challenging, but doable with hard work. Attend lectures, do practice exams, and use study tools like Unstuck AI. While not the best lecturer, she's willing to help during office hours.
Used to drive to this class without a seatbelt hoping I wouldnt make it.
I CANT EVEN TELL YALL HOW I PASSED BUT I DID. 10/10 would not recommend
Mrs White you will be missed !! I only had a little bit of trouble with this class at one point since I didn't take pre-calculus, but the notes were amazing and the review for the exams were just almost like the exams. Missing one day could mess you up since notes were taken almost everyday, but before the exams we would practice&work on reviews
