I fall asleep most of the time--can sometimes be rude to those that don't know
Excellent Teacher, very knowledgeable, Essay Test Though
Complete jerk, was very unhelpful, called me laughable, and said i was stupid
No Comments
When talking about information he moves and talks very quickly.
material was difficult explained as well as possible
He was a nice teacher. He knew who I was, even though I sat in the back
Very Very good!!!
Best Econ prof at ISU
The hardest class at Iowa State!
This guy is terrible compared to all other econ teachers!
He sucks terribly
No Comments
excelent teacher. exams are exactly what's covered in lecture...don't skip
not helpful at all; did badly on a test, his advice Study harder.
Hardest class I ever took. Tests were way too hard. W/o curve, half the class would have failed
He was hard, but great teacher. Don't skip class test right from lecture
No Comments
the 101 class was harder than many 300 level courses and he is very boring
Extremly diffucult class, attending class, did homework, and read, still HARD... and he is a grumpy lil man that wears weird hats
If you make it a point to go to class and never skip, you will have all the material on the exams. The exams are very hard (lots of memorization), you must study hard!! I never read the book as all material came from lecture.
This class was really hard for a 100 level class but if you attend class, you'll do fine on the exams. He never uses the book so don't bother buying it! It wasn't that bad of a class though.
he talks and goes very fast. he only tests 2 times so if you fail one or both you fail the class
terrible...
Worst class I ever took. Very intense lectures that are hard to miss because you have pages of notes to make up. I went in one time for some help and he just made me feel stupid.
Great Prof. He goes really fast, but he really knows his stuff and presents it in a clear manner.
Well, I took the online version of econ 102, which I would not recommend. His lectures weren't the problem, it's just that they are so boring, it's very easy to get behind in watching them. Keep up and it's cake.
His lectures suck because he writes on the chalk board and its hard to read from far away. You can't miss any class because his notes aren't online or anything. Tests are hard some info isn't even in the book. The book helped me more than his notes though
This class sucks, don't take it. It is so boring, and his teaching methods leave something to be desired. And he's a scary little man.
This is the only class I fall asleep in!! He is SO dull! Not to mention he makes you feel like an idiot every time he calls on you- (and he will...)
Not to bad. It is a little boring but he could present his information it a more intresting way.
The online course is terribly hard!!!
His microeconomics class is very difficult. He's much more concerned with your ability to draw graphs than he is with your ability to grasp economic concepts...and he's terribly arrogant and boring!
Arrogant. Mean. Horrible at explaining things. Very difficult tests. Doesn't use a book it's all from his notes (we have to assume that it's all correct). Makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. Wears a stupid little hat.
he is very hard and he is a jerk to anyone that ask questions.
Judging from what I see other friends doing in their classes, Alexander makes class a breeze. He explains things throughly and is a very good about making sure that questions get answered. If you pay attention in class, it's hard to not get a descent grade.
Econ is very difficult the way that he teaches it. Concepts aren't that important, graphs are and that doesn't help you much with the economics concept. Not too helpful and is moody when questions are asked.
I don't know what these people are talking about. If you take notes and pay attention in class, the tests are EXACTLY THE SAME. FYI - those graphs are explaining the economic concepts if you would pay attention. As an engineering major, this class is an easy A.
Yes, some days it was hard to stay awake in his lectures but overall if you try and listen most of the time and take good notes the exams will be pretty easy. Use the previous exams he gives you to study for the test and they aren't bad at all. He can be kind of funny too!
Not a good online class. Have to listen to his racing lectures, you wont open the book you have to buy for the class. Went to him for help in person and I felt stupid for not knowing things. Leaves at by 3 every day and won't stay to help you!
His class would have been a lot better had we had an actual text book instead of the online book we were forced to buy for sixty dollars that sucked anyway.
he does a lot of graphs on the board and is always willing to take questions and he has answers.
Nice guy, if you ask a question or for clarification about the material covered, he is always willing to help. He doesnt stand for idiots who goof off during class though
If you took econ in high school, take online econ with Professor Alexander, and it won't be too taxing. It may be harder if you're learning econ for the first time.

Boo-urns. This class sucked ass compared to the other professors. All essay and drawing diagrams tests. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
Absolutley the best teacher I've ever had. Genuinley cares about the students in his class.
His tests are hard but only if you don't pay attention during lecture. If you make it to most of the lectures and understand basics, you will do fine. Tells funny stories. No online notes, everything he does is on the chalkboard. You will do fine if you go to class. Don't need to buy books.
very helpful, made time for 1 on 1 sessions. WWW class was excellent. Much better than anyone else i had in the Econ department
Very helpful. Definitely prepares you for Econ 102. Good examples on the board. The tests are essay, but they are big topics that should easily be answered. The two midterms are relatively difficult, the final is easy and he gives lots of extra credit on it. Great professor
must attend class or get notes and understand it or you will be screwed
go to class and take notes, don't need to buy the book

his tests were horrible. and the notes were forever long! and so hard to stay awake but the notes were life and death.
He was very clear and fair on tests. You can have him regrade which sometimes it better than the TA doing it.
Tough class with tough exams but he makes sure that his students learn the material. Make sure to take notes on everything and to not skip class. If you do, you will be so far behind. He likes to call on people too. Watch out.
if you don't have to have him as a prof, DON"T he sucks!!!
Lots...LOTS of notes. Lectures the WHOLE time. exams are difficult, but if you understand the homework you're pretty much guaranteed a B or better on the exams. Grades fairly. Makes time for students. VERY HELPFUL. He wants you to learn! Even if he's done similar problems six times on the board, he'll do it again if you ask him to. nice guy.
He was good at first but then started moving WAY too fast.
He is one of the best professors at ISU. His teaching is very clear and logical. You never feel boring if you are in his lectures. He is helpful and patient, even I am not good English. I took his Econ101, Econ102 classes, I am sure if you go to his lectures to do his assignments and practice exams, you will get a good grade.
Was very knowlegeable about the topic. He made class interesting and kept things lively. Make sure you go to his reviews. He is willing to help and is fair on his tests. Not easy by any means but fair.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He does give a lot of info and the tests aren't multiple choice but actually makes you learn the material and not just for the exams. Always willing to help and spend extra time to make sure everyone knows what he is doing. Great teacher if you are considering econ as a major or minor.
Professor Alexander was very interested in his subject and excited to teach it. He tried to make it fun and interesting. Whenever I had a problem, he was available to go over the information with me and help me understand it. I came out of the class with a good understanding of microeconomics.
Great professor! He doesn't make you buy a textbook, but you still learn tons. Very clear teaching style, and he's willing to explain anything you don't understand, even multiple times. His review sessions are great; always helpful, and then you know exactly what will be on the exam. His enthusiasm for econ is contagious.
I thought, even though this class is challenging, Alexander was willing to help and I really understood what he taught.

Gotta love Alexander! He makes his class fun and interesting, his personal stories are pretty funny, he's clear and always willing to help you.
Makes a rather boring subject interesting. Is willing to help. Old tests are very helpful. Although he doesn't use the exact same numbers, problems are similar.
Don't buy a textbook, you won't use it! Go to class, because you'll need your notes for the test. Tests are not that bad, if you study. Alexander is a nice guy, he's funny and helpfull. PS Ask him why he always takes everything out of his pokets.
Don't buy the book. He should have published his own. Your notes are the answers to the exams, but you must study. Each exam is about 7-8 pages and all essay/short answer. Not hard, but you will have to study.
I found this class to be pretty difficult even though I went to every class. Hardly ever used the book. Make sure you take good notes and go to class because he gives a few extra credit points.
Funny! Great professor, want's his students to understand before he moves to a new topic. Lot's of notes, but study those and you can get an A or B. Don't buy the book, it will be a wast of money!
One of the best professors I've had at isu. He makes tough material easy to understand. Lots of notes. If you miss a day of class...you miss a ton of material. But best econ prof, hands down.
He is the BEST! I loved his teaching style! I ended up with like a 98 in this class!
He's a cool guy, really fun in class. He does'nt use the material at ALL, so dont waste money on the book.
I think he's a great teacher and a great guy. He is sure to slow it down and go over things again if you have a question. I can tell he genuinely gives a crap about the students and their welfare in the class. It's kind of funny how enthused he is at such a boring subject. Attendance is a must. Take notes. Don't buy the book. Only one pop quiz.
He slows everything down if you don't get what we are going through. He actually cares about the students and has a sense of humor.
He is really good at explaining subjects and very clear abour it. so SIGN UP FOR HIS CLASS
Very Clear and enthusiastic about the subject. Very helpful if you seek him in his office, will work with you. I would recommend taking econ with him.
The best prof I have at ISU so far!
Dont buy book in Alexander's class. He is very funny and random. He is also very practical. Go to class because he uses the chalkboard. Take his class.
Alexander is THE MAN! Take his classes, you'll be glad you did (aka you'll learn a lot!). I took his 101 class, and I was first in line for 102 :)
Overall very good professor. Very clear lectures, and has good review sessions before tests. Can be hard to contact. He didn't return my emails, but he will gladly talk to you after class and is very helpful.
Really enjoyed his class and styles of teaching! He makes class fun and reviews the material often before moving on!
Very interesting lecture, and easy test if you pay attention to what he teach in class. No text book reading need,if you can understand in class.
if you have any intelligence at all the pace can be painstakingly slow at times, but it is nice to see a prof who caters to liberal arts majors and their stupid questions. show up, take notes, and study the night before the tests and youll get a good grade.
Excellent professor, best I've ever had. Let me just say, whether it was him being a great teacher or the material being easy, this class with him teaching it is at least 50X easier than any engineering class I've ever taken. Automatic A if you have a brain.
He's the best professor I ever had. Econ 101 is so easy taking with him!TAKE HIM AT ANY COST
I take both 101 and 102 with him. He's my favoriate prof so far. He makes everything easy and clear. If you go to class, you don't need to book. Just a few hour of study before test gets you an A. Take him at any cost.
He's my favorite teacher in ISU.He makes everything clear. You can just review his notes and some definitions for his test. He's extremly helpful for everything.I take econ 101 and econ 102 with him. He's the best teacher ever. Go to his office and talk to him, he can help you more than econ class.BTW, he doesn't use a textbook.
I'm still in this class and like the professor a lot. Does anyone have any old exams they are willing to share? I would like to have an idea of what to study and he only provided one example for each exam. I can't find any online. Please provide a link if you know where to find some. Thanks!
Very easy to understand, great lecturer, enjoyment to attend class.
Probably the best professor I've had at Iowa State. He is very funny and outgoing. Every day he shows up with no notes and will write a couple pages worth of notes all with his chalk on the board. VERY note heavy, so you can't really skip any class and he doesn't really work with the book much at all. Don't bother buying textbook.
Very good teacher. Teaches you what you need to know for the test, nothing more, nothing less. Very clear notes. His humor can get annoying and his stories suck, but if he sticks to his notes, the class goes by fast.
I Just love him so bad. I just went to his review section 2 days before test and missed every other classes. And I still have A
This professor is good at teaching economics and he tells u what u need to know. Sometimes he repeats himself from one class to another but other than that he is good.
No need to buy the text. He did ask one question from it on an exam, but you don't have to answer all questions on the exams. He was very patient and explained things well. Go to class, it helps. Go to office hours and ask for help if you need it. He will help you. Go to review sessions. Great teacher. One of ISU's best profs.
GOOD GUY, just to take notes, you will get high score. testbook is not needed. HAPPY to see him in ECON102
Difficult class but great teacher!!
Go to class, you'll never want to miss writing down notes because he only writes them on the board, no online notes. textbook practically not needed. don't think of dropping the class once you've started. he won't sign the drop slip FYI
He is a great teacher, very clear with the material and has kind of sour sense of humor, but overall he is a great teacher very smart. The class is a kinda easy if you go to class every day and take notes. He is a perfectionist and he likes the defenitions to be exact as he gave us.
HE IS AN AMAZING PROFESSOR! If you need help, don't hesitiate to go in and he helps you with whatever you need. Even knows your name and won't forget you.
I went in for help after the first test and he told me there was nothing he could do to help. I left with no sense of what I needed to do to improve my grade. He is a terrible teacher. I ended up minoring in Econ and avoided his classes the rest of my college career. Terrible teacher.
It seems pretty clear to me in looking at all these "reviews" that the majority of them are written by Mr. Alexander himself. I really doubt every person would cooment that he is great and that a textbook is not used. He is the type tat would do such a thing. Over 35 people failed his class in my session, and his lectures are confusing and boring.
Very good instructor that genuinely cares about the material and does his best to teach it in an easy to understand manner. He sometimes gets off topic but awkwardly forcing small talk in a lecture hall, but otherwise he is a quality prof.
I enjoyed this class a lot. Dr. Alexander knows the material well and will always re-explain a concept in class if someone has a question. He gets side tracked on occasion. Overall, I recommend him for 102.
easy class. did not crack the book once. he evens mentions on the first day of class that you won't need a textbook. just go to all of the classes and recitations and you will be fine.
Dr. Alexander knows what he's doing in this class. It is very obvious that he has been teaching this class for years. He has it down to an art, but if you don't show up to class don't expect any extra help. DO NOT try to bring up flaws in capitalism or point out issues with the "free market". You will just piss him off royally.
my favorite professor in ISU! His classes are so much fun. But if you expect an A, you should go to every class caz tests are based on the materials talked in class.
Hes terrible. Socialistic and unclear. After the first exam i went into his office for help and he replied by saying i just needed to study more. Notes took forever and he moved way to fast. Thinks hes funny, but hes just an ****. Openly made fun of kids that couldnt speak clear english. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
LOVED HIM, Best professor I have had at Iowa State thus far. No complaints; but be prepared to take thorough notes and ASK QUESTIONS! He really does want to see students succeed. No text required-- who doesn't love that?!
Really an awful professor, most likely wrote a lot of these reviews himself, which would account for the large number of them.. Very unclear teaching style while giving little or no help to students.
Absolutly my favorite professor at isu easy notes easy homework just go to the review sections for tests cause he bases the tests off the review section also he is hilarious just one goof guy
Greatest teacher yet. Very clear and goes over stuff very indepth. He has little homework and is the best econ teacher on campus. Essay tests are the low point. he also holds study sessions for every test which is very helpful that most professors do not do
Terry was very interesting.. He did move somewhat fast, but if you payed attention it wasn't a problem. I think he knows most people think this is a fluff class, and wants you to retain the information, but he doesn't go out of his way to make the class too difficult. Dont get the textbook, never, ever used it
Great teacher! He really just wants his students to be interested about Econ beyond what is in a textbook. He is very helpful if you go talk to him and his tests are easy because there is room for error
Awesome
He's amazing, easy to understand, wants you to learn, gives extra credits, and easy to get an A with him
Professor knows his stuff. Never once used his own notes for lecture. Lectures were purely off the top of his head but very good. I learned a ton from Terry. He had random quizzes. Tests were similar to his practice exams. Study for his tests and pay attention in class and you will learn a lot and do well.
Good teacher. He rarely uses the text, but instead gives awesome notes in class to use. He will also give random quizzes throughout the semester so come to class. Otherwise, his tests were pretty easy and he's a fun lecturer.
He is extremely smart and is a good teacher
He is a great professor who wants his students to do well. Attending class is essential in getting a good grade. Textbook is useless, study his notes and practice exams hard and you'll do just fine. Random quizzes and homework. Curved at end of semester.
He started out being a pretty cool teacher but the more we got into it, the more people didn't like him. He goes way too fast. not only that.He claims he curves grades but he really doesn't. He told us first day of class an A is 88 B 77 C 60 and D 50 but he didn't tell us those were minuses so he really didn't curve them also no curve semester test
Great professor. Very intelligent and gives great examples. Simple notes you follow along and write down. Can be rude at times. Just don't be doing anything but taking notes. 101 is NOT that hard. Very few notes just don't skip class. One of the best professors I have had at ISU in 4 years.
Not a good teacher disrespectful and does not slow down your hand will be feeling it in the morning his tests aren't that bad his review sessions got really lengthy and your brain will hurt but it is recommended you go to them but overall not a good teacher
Tests are extremely hard and only basis of grade. Grad students are probably the only ones to get As. He knows too much econ for his own good. Expects students to know everything he talks about. Talks way too fast.
If you ever have an option to take a different econ I would recommend it
He teaches 10x better than the book. By far easiest econ class ever. Things to do to get an A in his class: 1. Go to class 2. Take notes 3. Go to review sessions. He makes Econ easy to learn and understand. You learn more from him in less time.
Great teacher - great advisor
Knows too much economics. He does the lectures from the top of his head and doesn't know how to put the notes into words that the average college student can understand. Takes a lot of studying and tests are extremely hard as you have to write out every answer
you take so many notes, but going to test review sessions is very helpful because he tells you EXACTLY what you will need to know for the exam. sometimes gives in class quizzes and extra credit.
Awesome teacher!!! He is one of the best teachers I have had at Iowa State. All you need to do is go to class and study his notes that he posts online. Don't buy the book because you will not even open it.
Honestly one of the best teachers I've had. Never needed to buy the book. To Get an A: 1. GO TO CLASS 2. TAKE NOTES 3. GO TO REVIEW SESSIONS. Honestly, This class is made so easy (curve on exams) 88% is an A. If you think this professor is bad/horrible you must be mentally challenged and I wonder how you got into ISU. Not a lot of homework.
Very good teacher and knows what he is talking about. He does go over the material very fast and his notes can be difficult to understand but he posts them online for review if you fall behind. His tests are hard but going over the practice tests makes them much easier. Class is mandatory but don't buy the book.
Very good teacher. Make sure to do the graphs exactly like he does them on tests and the homework assignments are very important to do well.
He is a great teacher. explains the subject very well and his notes are clear. I studied from his notes only and homeworks and got an A. attending class is not mandatory but he gives a lot of extra credit quizzes
He is a horrible professor. The tests are very hard and the note he writes are very sloppy and impossible to read. He talks about random stuff that doesn't pertain to the class and he wastes the students time. He does a very poor job teaching what you need to know for the test. By far the worst class and professor on campus
who say he isn't a good professor and does a horrible job at teaching, I don't know how you got into ISU in the first place. He's a great professor and makes everything crystal clear, pay attention during class and you'll know exactly what to expect on the exams. He uploads exams from previous years which makes everything a lot easier.
Anyone who says his exams are hard must never have gone to class. Exams are weighted very heavily and are written in a way that you cannot BS your way through it but all material and graphs needed are pounded into your head when you go to class. Has in class quizzes which are pretty much attendance points when less than 1/2 the class is present
My FAVORITE Econ professor. The class provided a challenge, but Alexander is great at breaking down material. He is always willing to help. The test are a bit harder than most, but really give you the chance to show what you've learned, which is what he really grades on. Just go to class!
I dropped this class after the first month. He just writes notes on an overhead, doesn't follow a book, and his tests are essay tests.
He does a lot of life stories that actually do apply to the course. You do have to attend his classes if you want the notes, cause he won't upload on BB.
Great guy, not a very good teacher. Makes you work for it but it is honestly really tough. A ton of graphs and he never really explains variables just expects you to figure them out. Moves through material way to quick. Love the guy but he is a tough professor to have.
Terry is someone that is genuinely there for you. I had him for 302 and it was a blast.
great professor!!! take good notes in class... every test is off of his notes itself.
Bottom line: don't take it econ with him. He intentionally doesn't make any part of his tests MC so if you don't understand something you're screwed. He goes over material way to fast and his handwriting is god awful. He draws a bunch of stupid graphs up on the board and doesn't explain them, just expects you to know. If you get him, SWITCH NOW.
One of the best Econ teachers I have ever had. I really enjoy going to lectures every week. He definitely has a bright mind and is very intelligent. I find his lectures super useful and are essential ECON skills. His class is challenging yet rewarding. Exams are not easy, but be prepared and you will be ready to go!
Honestly the best professor I've had at Iowa State. If you attend class and ask questions you will do well. His tests are hard but if you actually have to learn the material. He's super good at explaining the material with good examples and really good clarity. Overall, he's very helpful and a great teacher!
Terry is by far the best professor I've had at Iowa State. This guy knows the material like a professor should. The guy lectures without any notes (very impressive!). Very important to attend class and pay attention. The tests are very difficult, but manageable if you actually learn the material (which he gives you the opportunity to do). No book.
Ok instructor that encourages thought, but does not understand that many student are seeing these pieces of information for the first time even though this is intermediate. Principles is NOTHING like intermediate. For this class with this instructor, my marginal cost exceeded my marginal benefit.
He is a good professor that wants you to actually understand what he is teaching you, and he does a good job doing it. You need to go to class, but you don't need a textbook. Also, he takes phones away which is pretty odd but overall he is a cool dude that'll help you if you need it.
If you want to learn how to read Chinese and not learn economics , then this is the right professor.
He is a good teacher but his handwriting is very bad. Also, he lectures without using notes or anything (impressive) but also hard to follow. Going to class is super important and the tests are difficult. The textbook isn't needed.
Terry is a great ECON professor. He does move through material fast, but if you review your notes, you should have no problem understanding. Obviously to succeed you must work, and as long as you do that, there should be no problem. He is very helpful when answering questions. I would recommend him as a professor.
Pop quizzes for attendance about every other class and every class when approaching an exam. Good professor, does all his notes on a tablet and his hand writing is pretty hard to read. Practice exams are nearly the same as real exam and great review sessions. Any questions by email or office hours and he is more than happy to help. No Book Used.
Amazing guy. He is truly an inspiration to our young millennial culture. However, one day we looked at one-wheel Segways and how we could make ourselves a two wheeled Segway at a lower cost than simply buying a new one. This was completely unrelated to class. We found our method to be $600 cheaper than buying an actual Segway.
Professor Alexander is the best professor I have had at Iowa State so far. He really knows what he is talking about and is very easy to learn from. Only 5 homework assignmentssem. Pop quizzes are basically attendance points. Gives thorough exam reviews which really help and will remember your name. Finished the class with 105% and an easy A.
He is a nice guy and a good professional.
Great guy and excellent professor. Best lecturer I have had at ISU. I would recommend him for an economics at any level. He connects with students and makes every lecture engaging. Moves through material quickly, so you need to show up to class and pay attention. His tests are not easy, but if you go to class and ask for help you will do well
In general a tough class if you are not interested in Econ at all. There are tough concepts to understand. There are not many tests, but they are tough. Not many points available. Make sure you go to class, or you'll miss random quizzes and will have a hard time understanding.
Professor Alexander is one of the best professors I've had. He knows his stuff and communicates his knowledge well. However, his notes are a little tough to follow, so you'll want to go to class to hear him discuss topics as opposed to just copying down posted notes.
He uses real life examples which was making the topics interesting.
Fairly easy class, A guaranteed if you pay attention in class and attend the review session before the exams
Alexander is a very smart professor and this makes him come off as confusing. He goes very fast through notes. Has very messy hand writing, which causes a lot of confusion. He gives out many pop quizzes at the end of class to count for attendance points. Only a few homework assignments, which could be a bad or good thing points wise. Tests are hard
Easy class, lectures arent boring, and he is really funny and helpful.
Easy class if you pay attention go to the review sessions. He's a great guy and loves his job. He's also pretty funny and knows how to make a boring subject fun (ish).
There are only 3 tests in the semester. Study the practice tests and prepare for them well.
Terry is a very good teacher, but if you're not an econ major......... It will be very difficult to understand. I'm a student who likes to go back over my notes when the teacher uploads them to blackboard. It's hard to read his handwriting. A textbook would've helped me learn it a different way, but we didn't have one for the class.
He is by far the best professor I have had at iowa state and a great guy to get to know during office hours. Review tests online are very similar to exams. Go to class for pop quizzes aka attendance points. Show up to class and the review sessions and you will pass.
I took Econ 102 and Econ 302 with Terry. Easily my favorite professor at Iowa State. His courses are very challenging and you have to put a lot of work into it but I also end up learning a lot more than I do in other classes. He does a great job of making notes easy to follow along with and I highly suggest taking either of these courses!
Terry was a great teacher! At first, he's intimidating, but he really knows his stuff. DO NOT SKIP THIS CLASS. Listening to his explanation of the notes is so essential. Don't buy the book if you have him, no assigned readings and I never used it. The tests are kind of hard, but he takes time out of his schedule for some great review sessions!!
I know a lot of people who dropped the class because he treated it like it was a 300 level class. I made it through but it was tough.
ECON 101 was an elective that I needed to take for my major and even though I was pretty much dreading it, Terry Made it a class I didn't mind going to at all. He is an awesome teacher, explaining the more complicated concepts in the best way possible and he kept class entertaining with his wacky humor.
He's a GREAT professor, and he makes econ easy to understand, but his tests are tough. Its all short answer: definitions, graphs, explanations, & math. But if you actually study & take the time to learn it, it's not bad. Do NOT skip class. But, if you miss an exam, he'll let you make it up. I slept in once and he let me do it. He's an awesome dude
he's hilarious and will make the class sound hard, but if you are a regular attender you should be fine
He is a tough, great teacher, really love learning from this guy.
Terry is a great guy. He has an odd sense of humor that makes class tolerable. Exams are exactly like the practice exams, but TAs grading is sort of picky. Only 4 or 5 homework assignments, attendance quizzes practically every day.
Loved Terry. He was really interesting to listen to and was very passionate about what he teaches. He really focuses on how the whole class is handling topics so he can adapt it to the class. Tests were easy if you study and asked questions during office hours. He really wants to see all students succeed.
Great professor, look at the practice exams for the basic format of exams
Terry is a fantastic Economics professor. I am nearly finished with his Econ 101 class this semester. He writes his entire lecture down on a tablet that he projects up on the screen so its easy to follow along with what he is doing. Only downside is if you are a bad test taker you are going to struggle a bit because his tests are all essay based.
Just a few homework assignments and 3 tests that make up all of your grade. It's important to attend class in his higher level classes as he won't post the notes online. A very good professor that cares about his students and is easy to relate to. Among the top tier of Econ professors at ISU
Terry Alexander is an amazing professor. He really wants his students to understand the material and he will go over it until you understand. He also tries to learn peoples names which is an awesome feeling in a huge lecture. He doesn't allow for using phones in class and he will call you out, but I honestly think that is why I did so well.
Terry genuinely wants everyone to do well in his class and makes an effort to know everyone in the class. A lot of the information is taught in lectures and you don't necessarily need the book. Overall the class is moderately challenging but if you go everyday and take advantage of office hours you'll be fine.
Terry is the man. His lectures are awesome and all of his tests are short answer so he gives you the chance to show what you know. Overall I would highly recommend him for ECON 101
Solid professor who allows you to really learn. The tests will be difficult but if you take the time to practice working problems, learning your vocabulary, and studying concepts you should be fine. He's a goofy guy, so his lectures are quite fun.
Terry is a fantastic professor, Great professor ever. I highly recommended.
He's an amazing teacher who cares. He makes sure you get the material even if you struggle. He's very personable. All his lecture notes are up online. Make sure you try your best on the in-class quizzes, which are only available in class. Got to class and try to understand, and you'll do well
I Love this prof.
Homework is completely useless. Nothing like the tests or what he teaches in class. The tests are extremely hard, and does an awful job in lecture doing problems like them to prepare students.
Terry does things his own way. He's an odd duck but a wonderful duck. His tests aren't a cakewalk since there is no Multiple Choice and even the T/F requires explanation. As for lecture, he introduces something. and then does it again. and then goes over it again. and then in the next class goes over it again. He makes sure you get it.
I found Terry to be a hilarious guy who interacts a lot with the students and genuinely tries to get to know us and makes a huge lecture seem more personal. Econ is not my area at all so I found the content to be hard and all tests are short answer/essay/graphing. Everyday is the same routine with him lecturing just writing notes out on the board.
This professor was one of the best professors I have had. He made the class engaging and will tell funny stories in between the information. He talks to people and will hold random conversations in class. His class is easy to follow and he posts notes and lecture videos on blackboard each week. I highly recommend him as a professor.
Terry Alexander is an awesome professor if you meet with him one on one. He takes the time and effort to answer your questions in a way that is easy to understands. His biggest downfall is that he tries to teach the whole lecture hall like that and it detracts from his teaching.
He is a great teacher 1 on 1 but in lecture his teaching method could be a little more concise.
Terry actually cares if you learn in that class, he makes sure that you're not on phones or on your laptop doing things. He does handwrite his notes which can suck because his handwriting is sloppy. The homework is super easy. I would go to class because he does do pop quizzes all the time and his tests are very lecture heavy and all short answer.
He gave really thorough lectures where the problems in class were essentially the same as the ones he would put on the tests. Attendance wasn't mandatory but there would be pop quizzes all the time. He taught the subject well and he was definitely knowledgeable and has been teaching for a while so he knows what he's doing.
He is an amazing teacher if you are willing to work for it. You HAVE to go to class to pass. If you go to lectures, you will do great on the exams. Pop quizzes are a thing, but they are quite easy. Overall amazing teacher and made me fall in love with Econ!
I loved having him as a professor! I had him for longer Econ 101 lectures for 1.5 hours twice a week and he would usually try to lighten up class with fun stories and jokes to makes class go by quicker. He also held review sessions, and the online practice exams were similar to what the actual exams. I would take his class again!
I took an online class with Terry and found his lecture videos super easy to follow. The homework was the exact same as the test so if you do the homework you should be good.
Very Fair with grading and fairly understanding. If you go to the lectures and study for the test you will most likely get an A. The way he teaches is also very good!!!
He has a solid understanding of what he is teaching. His writing can be hard to read sometimes, and his notes can be all over the place. It all comes together eventually, so you might not understand anything until right before the test.
He cares a lot about his students. You have to go to class to get notes but he is always if his office if you have questions. Exams are similar to the practice test.
Do not do it. Just dont. He means well but makes the class one billion times harder than it needs to be. Tests are all handwritten where other Econ professors do multiple choice. I worked my life away just to get a B.
I'm not sure if I can speak for everyone else, but Terry made econ MUCH, much more difficult than it needed to be. If you need help, get it, because he expects you to know everything inside out ten times through.
Terry is well respected and very knowledgeable but makes things ridiculously more difficult than they need to be. If you're like me and find studying for hand-written tests very hard to do, then this is not your guy.
Terry was a fantastic Econ102 professor. While there isn't much homework (5 assignments all semester), he really dives in and makes you understand the concepts and how they apply to real life. Tests are made to be difficult, and while I was stressed towards the end of the semester because of the final, the course was overall really good.
Dr. Alexander is a great lecturer and cares for his students. He encourages participation, but his lectures are a must so don't plan on skipping very many. If you show up, participate, and utilize him as a resource, you will do very well.
This class can be pretty dry for a lot of people, but terry makes it 100 times more interesting than anyone else. His handwriting is god awful, but so are the other Econ teachers. He admits it, can make a good joke out of it, and still presents his material in a clear, concise manner. I would literally die for this man.
