This guy was a great teacher. He not only clearly delivered information, he made it exciting. He was able to convey his passion for the subject. On top of this, he was very understanding and compasionate about any problems a student faced.

He's the nicest, sweetest man. His class isn't a cak walk but if u work you will get an A and it's easy to do so if you just listen to what he says will be on the exam. Just study the notes, you don't really need the book. (DON'T CHEAT lol)

Here is a teacher with passion on what he does. He loves history and loves passing that on to students. No need to buy a book. All his tests are based on class notes. Very organized on giving notes. Excellent teacher with no doubt.

i love this guy!. he makes getting up at 8 in the morning sumthing to lok forward too. He relly knows what he is saying so he can put his own lil spark ino it. Plus he keeps the class laughing. Test aare based on the notes and if you keeps notes and pay attention once in a while you'll do fine.

Dr. Terry Alford is my only favorite professor so far that I have been at NOVA for two years. He made History interesting, fun, and easy to learn. He explain everything in detail, what to expect on our exams. He's notes were straight out short but full explanatory!

class is all lecture. usually honors teacher, but teaching 121 while writing another book. Knows everything and conveys it in an interesting manner. great class. if you don't like history he'll get you through it. If you do it might be too 'history for dummies' for you :)

He is a great teacher! I've never been paid more attention to history than with him teaching it. He's really funny while taking down the main points in history. A very fun and good teacher indeed.

if you're going to take US hist, he's the professor to take it with! grades on 3 exams, 30% each, and a single 10 page paper due at the end of the semester. No homework. Don't buy the text, if you take decent notes, everything that's on the tests he puts on the board so all you have to do is copy the board and keep an ear cocked during class.

He's great!! As long as you take all the notes that he writes on the board you'll be fine for the exam. The exams are really as long as you know some of the stuff that you listened in class. Got a B without even trying!! Easy, funny, and fair... what more could you ask for in a teacher?

I took him for US History 121&122. Is he easy? Yes. But I don't see what the hype about him is. His humor was so dry. Repeats alot of his jokes over and over. No time to dilly dally in his class. He gets right into taking notes the second he walks in. But good teacher,no book needed. Straight from notes. Memorize notes,youll do fine in his class.

easy class i took in spring all u have to do is go to class take notes no need to buy the book his tests are straight from his notes only 3 test, he reviews for it a claSs before and one research paper, the easist research paper u'll ever do in collge, make sure u don't miss class and if u do, make sure u have a friend who can let u borrow the note

Absolutely AMAZING professor! He has a very youthful soul, hes energetic and explains his lectures in ways that make it IMPOSSIBLE to want to even rest your head on your desk. GO TO CLASS and TAKE NOTES & actually study them cause thats where the tests come from, and you'll walk out with an A Guaranteed!

There's good reason Prof. Alford has such good ratings. I just finished 121 this semester and I will testify that he has earned every single one of them. He is an excellent professor. You can't fall asleep in his class and definitely write down everything he puts on the board--his test Q&As are there. anybody who's taken him knows..NAKED ISLAND! :D

Don't waste money on either Starbucks or the textbook-you won't need either. Alford manages to be wet your-pants-funny at 8am in the morning. Try to take Alford when you're close to completing your degree, as he will completely spoil you with his NEAT, clear notes.

Alford was awesome, i had him fall semester 05 and i FAILED his class - yes I failed it not bc he was bad but because I didn't come to class. I re-took his class in spring of 06 and got a B - he was really cool, dont expect to fail that was just me being stupid HE'S COOL!!

Very good teacher. Didn't have to buy the book, and the lectures have been very insightful and interesting. You have to attend class to get all the notes in order to do well on the exams, but how hard is that? Some students in my 8am class had a problem with that and that's probably why they didn't do as well as they could have.

My favorite professor at NOVA. Noticed the first day of class he was popular by the large class size. Professor is very amusing and entertaining. Exams are based on lectures, text is not needed. He makes history a very interesting subject.

Everything people have said on here is true. No book needed, i had to return mine. You MUST attend every class or you will miss pages of notes and the tests are made up solely off the notes. He is a very NICE person and FUNNY and knows History like the back of his hand.Also not boring NO assignments in the summer class only 3 tests and that was it!

He is the best history teacher I've had. He tells stories, and all you do every class is to listen to these interesting stories, and take some notes. Tests are the easiest, but managable as long as you review your notes and the handouts. It should be an easy A for most students.

Dr. Alford was great. He kept my interest level pretty high in a subject that I have never been to excited about or interested in. A textbook was not manditory (only suggested)and all of the exam material was covered in class making any/all tests relatively easy to study for due to the fact that you need only to rely on the notes taken in class.

He's is a great professor. His lectures are full of lurid detail and full of insight. The exams require the knowledge of the material but nothing more. I really appreciated a complement that he gave me about a paper that I wrote about the American Revolution. I'm now at the University of Virginia in the Corcoran Department of History.

Alford is fantastic. He has authored an excellent book, and has another in the works. He's a leading national expert on John Wilkes Booth. An adviser for "National Treasure". He does not lecture from the textbook. Must be in class (his well-organized notes are essential). He's crystal clear about EXACTLY what material will be on exams.

Dr. A is excellent. Just take good notes throughout the semester and be sure to attend the test reviews. You have to be really lazy to get less than an A or a B in his class... but honestly, he makes the class so enjoyable, he's kinda like a stand up comedian at times! And DON'T get the textbook.

I've never had a teacher SO PASSIONATE about his subject, that he has worked HUMOR into the class without even cracking a joke. Notes are easy to take, and you will find yourself wanting to take them. He likes to play with you when it comes to exams, but they're easy. If you haven't taken notes it'll be challenging, but if you listen, you'll pass.

AMAZING TEACHER

He's a good teacher, but doesn't post anything on blackboard. I was really sick this past semester and couldn't print out a new syllabus to keep up with the reading and exam schedule, and he wouldn't send me a new one. I missed one exam and the only assignment and aced the other exams but still ended up failing the course. Good luck.

There is only 1 Dr. Alford. A true old school professor who not only knows history but also makes it simple for all. One of my favorite professors. I took his morning class, and I'm usually tired when I first come in, but am wide awake by the end. He makes the lectures interesting with the side stories that are mostly relative to the material. He does pass out an attendance sheet but a lot of people don't show up unless it is exam day. He wrote a book and is very knowledgeable (also met historical icons in person!--he tells you guys during lectures) Really straightforward and easy, just take notes, study them and you will have an A in the class. I hated history before but with him I enjoyed every class I had! You won't regret having him, I was so blessed to be one of his students. :

Dr. Alford was by far my favorite professor. He is really funny when giving his lectures and is easy to keep up with. He gives extra credit opportunities and is easy to work with if you have special needs in the class i.e. a laptop or tape recorder. I would easily take his class again.

I took his class in the 90's. He was impressive and interesting then and was probably the best history teacher/professor I ever had. Not easy, but fair and if you participated in class, he enjoyed it and went further into details and shared his own opinions, but didn't push any agenda. I would LOVE to be able to chat with him again.
