Amazing Prof!
Always willing to help. Great prof!
he thinks I'm stupid
He provides a fantastic set of notes. All you have to do is attend class and STUDY to assure success in his class...and you will need to. Well-spoken and organized. I both enjoyed and learned a good bit from him.
Not helpful during academic advising. Left me feeling inadequate and even more questioning. He never has the courtesy to look you in the eye when you talk to him.
I wish certain other profs (who I won't mention here) would have notes like his...they couldn't be any more clear and complete.
Great prof. Brilliant man. He expects a lot from each student.
Very glad I worked with him...very helpful, intelligent, and knowledgeable...excellent advisor and professor. You need to put effort into courses/research as well, though.
a lot of material and hard but great notes and very helpful. Learned to believe in myself. Respectful and positive toward students
He talks with his eyes closed....weird
Very smart, looks like a toad, notes are great but I often fall asleep in his class. His tests are killer. Make sure you know your stuff!!
Belke seems to be a genius and I'm sure would be great for a 3rd or 4th year class. Intro isn't his thing. His notes are awesome though. Oh, by the way, we counted the number of times he says essentially in each class... record is 108 times in 40 mins.
EXTREMLY intelligent Harvard graduate! He knows his stuff and expects only the best from his students! Has great notes and covers alot of material! Although i think the lights shouldnt be so dark.. its hard especially when your really tired :)
ESSENTIALLY, Belke has ESSENTIALLY the best notes ever. However, ESSENTIALLY, his tests are very hard, and its's ESSENTIALLY hard to concentrate in his class because he turns off the light...essentially?
Dr. Belke is such an amazing prof, he genuinely cares about his students, sure he's quirky, but all the best ones are! However, he's a TOUGH marker, know your stuff, perhaps not an intro teacher.
NOT an intro prof! He is intelligent, but does not know how to interact with his students. He takes the notes right out of the textbook and is a very hard marker, especially with tests. Essentially, he should teach upper year classes!
i love belke!
I love Belke. Great proff, nice teaching style...we had to watch videos of rats in his class and count their movements...(a great way to keep students concentrated by the way...everyone was so awake)
Former Harvard professor (it shows!). Very interesting subject matter but involves a lot of biology and neuropsych. Definitely have to work to do well in his classes. Expects a lot from his students and won't teach down to their level!
pretty tough, if it's an intro course, AVOID him. a little bit quirky, but very interesting, and a fair marker.
"Essenially" the best psych prof at MtA! Gives amazing notes, and although he expects a lot from his students, he is VERY fair and extremely approachable. It's not hard to do well in his courses as long as you're willing to put in a little eff
Goes through is notes very fast but just because he thinks so fast. If you remind him that not everyone is as lightning brilliant as he is, he slows down for a while. Marks work instantly, learns your name with unfathomable and spooky ease.
He takes the notes from the Psychology textbook online site- go ahead, check it out. I didn't really like the material covered, maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it so much. He goes really quickly and doesn't get into explaining things much- Read the text
His courses are tough but if you work hard you can do well. Really funny & nice prof! Love hiM!
Not a prof who should be teaching intro. He takes everything right out of the book. Has no time to see people in his office, and seems to want to weed out the people who are not majoring in the department
Dr. Belke is awesome! I still remember tons from his classes and I graduated in '02! He's really easy to get along with, and always willing to do extra to help his students.
He was pretty easy and nice. He seriously says "essentially" once every three seconds! He went to Harvard and so I think he thinks essentially is a nice big word that makes him sound smart. He does cool experiments with rats. He has good notes and it is not hard to get a good mark. Very monotone!
Belke is a good prof. He gave good power point presentations and put them online (you could miss class sometimes and just get them off the web). He was a bit hard to listen to.
Very intelligent, knew what he was talking about. Monotone, puts people to sleep in class. (Except the day he coughed into his microphone by accident and startled the napping class). Got all of his info from the text. He is famous for his "red star notes" - notes only provided in class.
just not a good prof...no time for students
Has no time for his students as he spends all his time with his rats. He isn't willing to lend any help at all to his students. If you enjoy frantically copying notes from a power point slide show for an hour straight, you may enjoy this class.
His notes are not taught to the level of the class at all, but it is helpful to know that his tests are only on the notes - thankfully the textbook chosen for this course is amazing. Very intelligent man, probably a bit too smart for teaching first year students.
Dr.Belke is probably one of the best professors at Mt.A! He gives really great powerpoint presentations and if you know his slides, you will ace his exams! He is also very helpful and cares a lot about his students. His labs are really fun too! Each student has has their own rat for the entire semester! Very nice and funny once you get to know him!
most of the time he avoids answering questions and the class was quie dull
Great prof. Very clear about exams. Very comprehensive lectures.
Nice guy. Likes to lecture with his eyes closed and avoids questions
My hand hurts from writing so many notes. Very comprehensive Power Points. He isn't exactly a thrilling individual and has the largest vocabulary I have ever encountered. The notes are excellent though and he does try and makes jokes. Loves rats.
Good, solid class. Basically, you take notes from powerpoint presentations and listen to him lecture at the same time. While the material is not overly engaging, the professor is an all around good guy. He's very fair on midterms and exams, and as long as you go to class each day, take complete notes and read the text, you're likely to do well.
Dr. Belke is the smartest person in the psychology department, bar none. If you want a professor who takes his subject seriously, who thinks _deeply_, then you want to take a course with Dr. Belke.
read the text!!!! for all the notes you take he puts a lot of text book content not mentioned in class on the midterm and exam
Very interesting material, not so interesting lectures. However, if you want a good base course you should def. take this. Very fair, very clear and very knowledgable.
All first year students beware! Stay away from this man, he has the most boring, monotone voice you will ever hear!! His powerpoints are long, with many pointless material. I hated psychology because of him, took a second class in psychology with a different prof and now i love it and am majoring in it!
He's so excited about what he's teaching, and that really makes a difference. He's a fair marker, though he expects a lot from his students. Nothing about his course is easy, but it is certainly fair.
Clearly an expert in behaviour modification. His slides were FULL of text (all of it necessary, though) and he sometimes had difficulty helping students understand the material. Had him for Intro I, and notes from his slides were the perfect study guide. He's dry, but completely competent.
Very difficult but interesting class. Follows textbook exactly as its written. Sometimes difficult to listen to, but he is actually really funny when you pay attention so its worth it!!
He marks hard. The multiple choice on his exams are extremely particular. You also have to do an assignment in his class. He also asks questions on the exam about things that he mentioned for 2 seconds in the class but things that he covers for a half hour he doesn't ask on the exam.
An expert in his field and a fair marker. His lectures are quite dry, though once in a while he cracks a joke that's hilarious! LOTS of text on his slides, but most of the info for the exams come right out of his notes. I hardly used my textbook and did very well. Overall good prof with high expectations.
Intense lectures/slides but not a great speaker (I hated the mic). knowledgeable but impersonal. exams were fairly easy.
A great prof! He has the largest vocabulary I have ever encountered & seems unapproachable / cold BUT if you go to talk to him in private he is super supportive & will try hard to help you if you are trying hard to help yourself. He has a super dry sense of humor & is pretty hilarious. You don't need to buy the textbook, notes are all you need.
Very difficult class as the material is very dense, most difficult psyc class at MTA. I really like him as a professor, very intelligent, thorough & organized. He is very intense marker for the midterms & lab reports that you write based on experiments you conduct with real rats. Overall: Difficult but fair (with a lot of feedback on written work.
I did a full year directed studies with him. Amazing supervisor. Expects you to be more than an undergraduate student. Can be condescending on a bad day and hilarious on a good day. If you get an A from him you KNOW that you deserved it. Gives great grad school advise, and writes very honest reference letters.
Even though his lectures are a little dry, I really enjoyed his class. Engage him outside of class and you can learn some really interesting things. When working on assignments, don't be afraid of details. Most professors want to keep things simple, whereas I found that providing specifics (without being wordy) was preferred.
great!
Talks way too fast, all of his lectures are read right off of power points that he does NOT put online so you have to attend class, and he speaks so fast and changes the slides so fast that it's impossible to write down or soak in anything he's saying. Very difficult course and hard to understand, he's definitely not a good first year prof at least
The best prof in MTA, other profs should take pointers from him, he's highly organized. Words can't express how awesome he is.His courses may be hard but like someone said, if u get an A in his class you deserved it because you must have worked your butt off.
He was very nice but he talks fast
Maybe he'd be better with upper-classmen, but in an introductory Psychology class... he was absolutely brutal. Boring and using terminology far above intro-psych level students' heads. Tests were far too hard and had to rely on textbook for all studying. He is super smart, but awful for first and second year students.
Interesting course, but a very advanced teaching method for a first year. Ouch. Could definitely tell he went to harvard!
He only reads off the power points and does not take the time fully explain anything. The textbook and lots of review notes is the only way to understand anything. I've heard he's better in upper year courses, but he shouldn't be teaching intro psych.
Belke is extremely organized and if you attend lectures, tells you exactly what he anticipates on midtermsfinal exam. If you've rated this prof because of a harsh mark, you got what you deserved. He is very fair (if you get an A you worked for it) and highly passionate about what he does. Take time to get to know him and to learn from him!
Barely any evaluations. Interesting material but if you happen to mess up on an evaluation you are in danger of finishing the class with a poor mark. The exams are very tough as well
Multiple choice is so hard
Really smart guy, he knows what he teaches. I like the structure of his lectures, and he does a good job of presenting his information. Only downside is that he's a fairly tough grader... work hard and you'll be fine!
I learned to like Dr. Belke much more after I got used to his teaching style and test set up. It is tough to follow along, headlines, titles and subtitles are very easy to confuse and he is definitely not easy on first years. On the positive side, he often plays funny related videos and doesn't require you to read more than your notes.
Dr. Belke was a good Intro to Pysch prof but some of his lectures can go over your head and his test are fairly difficult. You will need to work hard and study the material for a good grade in his class.
Dr. Belke did not seem very excited to be teaching this class. His power points were just copy and pasted from the textbook, and you would leave class with 3-4 pages of notes, and not have learned anything as he moves to quickly and puts to much material on the slides; slides are not posted on Moodle. He knows his stuff, but he just cannot teach it
Belke know his stuff. You have to study but you will be rewarded. He is a fair and well respected Prof.
Prof is alright, his lectures are long because there are a lot of notes. He doesn't put his notes online which is frustrating but the midterms are pretty easy.
Powerpoints are full ( I mean full) of words so unless you have a computer you won't be able to get them all down. He never stops talking and just goes through the powerpoints quickly. I really like the course though and would recommend it. He's kind of funny sometimes but mostly serious.
He teaches 4 fourth year Psychology research courses and then 1 intro course, it is very difficult to stay on track as well.
I respect him and his honesty; if it's not covered in lecture, it won't be on the exam. Having had the chance to interact with him both in and out of the classroom, I will attest that he's very approachable and a fascinating person with tons to offer. Show interest in your own success, and you will be rewarded accordingly.
I absolutely hated this class. He teaches using powerpoints and he talks at the class. Leaves no room for question, perfectly represented by the length of time it takes for him to see that there is a hand up. If you take this class make sure you can type or write fast. The actual understanding of the material is left to you. As a prof, he sucks.
By his lectures you would feel intimidated by him, but he is very accessible and willing to make time for his students. Attending classes is essential to get the information he wants you to know for tests/exams. Really a good professor if you are willing to put the effort in.
Belke pretty much covers everything from the textbook in his lectures, so you don't NEED to read, although it obviously helps. His lectures can be dry at times, but they're very informative and I usually found myself looking forward to his classes. The midterms are hard, so study! Overall, he's a great teacher and a great person - I loved his class
A solid prof overall. Read your book, take good notes, and you will pass. Lectures are usually kept interesting (some are real sleepers though), and he really knows his stuff. Word of advice - notoriously difficult multiple choice. Know the material, because looking at the choices will probably not give you any hints.
Good prof. Fair marker but there is a lot of material so study in advance. Covers all material in class, which is convenient. Very smart man and goes very fast which is his only critique. Aside from that, he is a very nice man and his class is very interesting. If you do your work you will get a good grade.
Super smart guy, lectures can be a tad boring and are VERY content heavy (type fast). That said, he's extremely approachable with questions, and is very consistent with his tests and assignments - you will be tested on every note and anecdote you have seen in class, nothing more, nothing less. Definitely recommend him for upper-year courses.
I spend all my time writing down the notes on the slides as fast as I can without even hearing a word he says because he goes way too fast in his lectures. The multiple choices on his tests are outrageously difficult, you really have to know the answer before even looking at the possible choices. Definitely don't recommend if you're a first year.
He is an expert in Psychology, with degrees from Harvard. He's really nice. 3 exams in this course and you have to read the chapters and really understand the content. Doesn't put notes online, so you really need to go to class. A lot of this class in the later part referred to testing on animals, so if that's not your thing, don't take this course
Awesome prof!! Actually feels like he wants you to pass the course.
Great prof who is incredibly knowledgeable in his field. I highly recommend taking classes with him, was my favourite professor at Mount Allison.
Dr. Belke is a highly respected professor! His tests are tough but if you attend lectures and study hard then you are rewarded! Lectures are very fast-paced but if you are actively taking notes then you can get all the information in. He seems intimidating but is very approachable. He really just wants to inspire students and everyone to do well!
Dr. Belke is an incredibly smart man, and can be pretty intimidating. He is a VERY fast talker so get ready to write! Email him if you have questions- he is great at explaining things if you reach out and is ready and willing to help. Obviously very passionate about his work. DON'T MISS CLASS! He covers everything in the textbook, save your money!
Dr.Belke is a great professor. He is very very smart and may seem intimidating at first but he is more than willing to help you out if you need. Do not miss class unless absolutely necessary, he goes through material very quickly. He was an engaging professor and marked extremely fast.
Go to all classes- powerpoints will be very critical for doing well on exams. Heavy content but tests very fair. Don't be shy to go ask for help either.
really good Prof and teaching style. Talks fast in lectures so speed write or take pictures of slides; which are not posted online.... go to class or you will struggle haha
Was only marked on three things You have to take notes fast because he doesn't post them
Professor Belle is extremely knowledgable and a great person. The material for the course however, is rather excessive. almost double the content in any other psych class. With only 3 things making up total grade so you have to perform well on it all. Overall decent experience but would have been better if material was condensed.
The speed & amount of information given at once took some getting used to, but I ended up loving the course. He explains the content very well. Attendance in lectures isn't graded but you benefit from them and slides are not posted. The midterm and exam very both very reasonable. Very interesting overall and I'm glad I stuck with it.
Professor Belle covers a lot of material, so staying engaged and using resources like unstuck ai for study prep is key. Lectures move quickly, but are very informative if you keep up. Overall, an interesting and manageable course.
