Excellent instructor
I'm a pretty good student and usually don't have a problem with professors. But, I thought that some of her tests were a little unfair. It seems alot of students in the class were fine with settling for c's in my class, and that's not acceptable to me.
she seems like a cool professor but when it comes down to your grades i hope you dont have high expectations. majority of the class will get C's.

Be careful about fully reading each and every word on exams. Claims she doesn't word questions to try and trick students, but that's a lie. Very opinionated. Doesn't demand a lot of extra work outside of class. Homework is easy, just be prepared 4 her!!!
She is an awesome teacher. Her tests are very wordy, so be prepares to read all the answers as she does try and trick you. Read very hard for the 1st test and got a C. Just read my class notes for the 2nd test and got an A. Homework is super easy!
She's an excellent teacher. Really knows what she's talking about. Easiest way to get an A is have her look over your notes at office hours. She's always willing to help and makes class fun.
She is a great teacher! Very interesting and knowledgeable. After taking her class, you don't feel as if you've wasted your time, but that you've actually learned something that will help you in real life. One of the best professors at CSUN!

If you like the subject, than she is great to learn from. She is too smart for her own good. She writes her own exams and her pride forbids her to recognize that some of the questions, do have multiple answers. READ CAREFULLY!

Great teacher. She gives a lot of work, but interesting teacher to listen to when she lectures. Take good notes and you will be fine! I took 2 classes with her and loved both of them! Do your work, show up to class and pay attention- and you'll do great.
I have taken her for 3 classes now, she is awesome. She is one of my most favorite teachers. Her tests can be a little tricky, but you have to read the questions throughly. If you take notes and do the assigned work you will do fine - this goes for every class she teaches!
Great instructor. There are few who can teach and keep you so interested that she has to remind you to stop for a second and write something down. The key to an A is to show up to class and pay attention... the good grade will follow with a quick refresher (from your notes) before each test.

This was a great class. The teach is good, shes just rude at times. I recommend this class to everybody. Pay attention to the lectures, becasue 45 out 50 quesstion on the test are from the lecture. You will enjoy this class.

Interesting lectures so it is easy to take good notes. She really cares about the students. For those who say she's rude, I disagree. She will not put up with disrespectful behavior(falling asleep, cheating, etc)and why should she! I enjoyed the class and the professor.

Great teacher! If you're sleeping,cheating,or talking during her lecture then you deserve some attitude! If you're a productive student who participates and listens to her, she will go out of her way to help you! Great Teacher! Tests are a bit tricky though. But I got a B anyway.
I loved her, she's great. Makes class very interesting. Tests are on lecture and if you study the quizes on the chapter outline, you'll do fine. Brings in a lot of her own examples, which are always fun. The class will help you in your own life. I did very bad on 1st test but got a B in the class.

If you want an easy "A" this is not the teacher take Plunkett. She is very boring, if u take an evening class, lets say from 6-945 she gives NO breaks and the tests are all her opinion not whats in the book. Don't even buy the book it's a waste of money. Trust me.
I loved this class! The professor is kinda of hard, but she is extremely knowledgeable on the subject. Yeah she's rude to those who deserve it. I admire her a lot. The class was a fun experience, you will learn a lot. Do all the work, go to class and don't ever be late! You for sure will pass.

Took this class for inspiration but ended up so discouraged. I can't believe she has taught this long 'cause it seemed to me she had no idea what she was talking about. She'll take the most obvious facts and twist it around in such way as to confuse the heck out of you.Very unprofessional and biased
She is hard, You'll have to work your ass off for an A. I got a C+ the first time I had her. But I took another class with her because I knew I'd gain the most insight. She has high expectations, but they are inspiring. She is intelligent and will make you think. You will benefit either way.
Very shady. Confronted her on an error on her own exam and instead of making the correction, simply glossed over the error and continued. Makes me want to get a PHD since it seems like they give it to anybody!
Great teacher! Very knowledgable about the material. It's hard not to be a little biased with this material, but she always respects other opinions, and will clarify if something is her opinion, not fact. The tests are not difficult if you STUDY. If you're looking for a good Upper Division class to take TAKE THIS ONE! She is so engaging in all the subjects we talk about, I'm always interested in what she has to say. You have 3 midterms, and a bunch of stuff to read, but the class is all worth it. Just 3 tests and 3 Hw's! Not so hard at all!
This was one of the best classes I have taken. I am a business major and her class almost makes me want to change my major. She really knows the sugject and makes it fun to interact in class. She doesn't have many assignments, only 3 exams and all you need to do is show up to class to "get it."

She seems like an annoying teacher at first, but as the semester goes by she gets nicer. Just be nice and responsible and you'll be fine. You'll get a good grade if you don't miss class, do your HW, take lectures and study for the exams. However, if you're expecting an easy A, this is not the class for you. It requires time and effort.
Good teacher, but likes to be right. Exam questions comes straight from class lectures so be sure to take good notes. Three exams and three HW assignments during a regular semester. Be nice to her and she will be nice to you.

You would have a chance of getting an A or a B in class if you mention that you're Jewish-like most do. She will not cover any other religion. If it's in the book, then she'll skip it. Good luck taking the test; you would need it. She has her favorite (Jewish)students.
Horrible teacher, she is rude to everyone, her class was not exciting and the homeworks and test were very hard. I thought that this class would be a very easy "A", but I hated to go to class and hear her voice everyday. One of the worst teacher I have ever had!
If you get anything less than an B in this class, you either are as smart as a sack of hammers, or you missed class. She will not give you an A for being Jewish. She will give you an A for showing improvement as well as being vocal during the class. She goes over all info in detail and is easily approachable with any questions. Easiest A ever.
Terry is very fun and nice. She is very interesting and time flies. She is a hard grader and I would suggest reading your class notes a lot before a test

Great teacher, but as stated by others does think her say is the FINAL and RIGHT say. Discredits some studies b/c doesn't fit in her agenda. Besides that, she is very fun, NOT an easy A, but not difficult if you just take good notes and skim through the handouts (book reading optional if bad NOTES)
VERY BIASED in her views to the point where it's part of her ciriculum. You can't challenge or even question any part of her teachings otherwise you'll get completely grilled by her, which discourages any intelligent debates. She plays favorites, so if you can say yes or agree to any of her skewed views, then you have an edge. Her teaching style is also biased, she doesn't cover any of the real relevant stuff until much LATER in the semester. Take at your own risk.
Trust me you don't want to take her. The class material is interesting if you don't have to take any test. Her notes don't match the book, and the test questions are very compicated. Hatkoff is a true college professor. This isn't supposed to be high school, or a walk in the park. this is my second time taking dr. hatkoff and i love her! her classes are so interesting. i never want to miss class. she gives 3 midterms, non of them cumulative. her tests are tricky but everything is from the notes. you just have to read every question carefully. multiple choice. she grades on attendance and participation also.

Prof. Hatkoff will require you to do some work AND even attend class. Go figure, this IS college, not high school! She is an EXCELLENT professor who will engage the entire class with dynamic and interesting material (and maybe you if you are lucky enough)

She is very clear about what is expected of you as a student. Just one piece of advice, if you are not into reading all that is required don't take her class. If you do all the reading you will most likely do well!

Every professor has a way to teach a class. I found that this professor is very arrogant & unhelpful. She did not makes students feel comfortable when visiting her office. Professor Hatkoff's class is so interesting you learn so much about relationships and marriage. You do have to read and eventhough the topics are so interesting I have about a C or B in her class. But on the positive you can ask her anything you want about anything. I will recommend taking her!
After reading all the comments below I don't think she is that bad. She goes by what is on the book and states when something is her own opinion. I just think some people are unhappy that they are not doing so well on the class. She is not perfect, but she is not as awful as people are making her out to be. Don't let them scare you she is ok.

WOW! This class in intersting, BUT you need to study so much, and read the book and articles, just to get a C! 3 papers too! No extra credit! I actually enjoyed her class and I think she's a great professor. I attended every lecture and really payed attention and got an A in her class, WITHOUT THE BOOK! If you don't understand the subject I can see why it would be a difficult class. I loved it and i recommend her, but I know some of my peers didn't feel the same way.

She may come off "hard" sometimes, but it is because she cares about the students and the one's she is "hard" on are the slackers! You learn so much in this class, it will help anyone in any major to improve their personal relationships.

She isn't disrespectful unless you are disrespectful to her..that is showing up to class late, showing up unprepared, talking to your neighbor and disrupting class, texting and using laptop while in class. the bottom line is she will call you out if you're doing something that you shouldn't be doing. She cares!! she is great and you learn a lot!!
I loved this class it was interesting & applicable to life. The only homework is 3 one-page essays; use points she discussed in the corresponding lecture. Her tests are not very hard, just go to class & study the notes & readings. I think the only people who disliked the class were the people who were always late/absent/didn't give a full effort.

Everyone needs to take FCS340 with Dr. Hatkoff. It is like Life Skills 101 - everything you'd ever need to know about marriage and family. She is very smart, very opinionated, and, yes, at times, rude. But you will be engaged, learn a lot, and do well if you listen to all lectures and read her applicable-to-the-subject reader.

The subject matter is interesting, but I would recommend taking the class with someone else. The professor seems extremely arrogant. I felt sorry for some of my classmates. At times she talked to them as though they were still in high school. I found her exams rather difficult even though I studied and was well prepared.
The class itself was very interesting. I learned a lot from her notes and what not. I did not read the book at all, read the articles, and times were a bit difficult. I honestly was scare to be in her class because of her ratig butI was wrong. She is very straight forward " especially to lazy students who comes in late". Not nice, has her favorites and tries to justify it by saying anyone can be her favorite but she is just trying to make her self feel better. Acts like her class is a critical thinking class but almost every lecture it turns into an open irrelevant debate with her not controlling the context. She is also very unintelligent and too opinionated.

Hatkoff is completely disorganized with class, such as, she forgot there were class presentations during class. She prefers not to use any powerpoint or projector till students wanted to have her to use projector. She is very rude with some students and some topics that was discussed in class that she seems not realizing that there are "ism" to it.

Dr. Hatkoff is great! She explains and gives examples for everything. She's had to deal with some unusual personalities in our class and she handles them like a pro. Doctor Hatkoff is a wonderful human being. She really loves what she does and the class is very enjoyable. The assignments are fairly easy and straightforward. The tests require reviewing of lectures and notes, don't slack and study and you'll do just fine.
Lectures need polishing. Posts them on a Word Doc. & has a random student help her. "Reader" assignments are crucial to earning points. Must read all for test q's are very specific to the "reader" & also pay attention to what comes out of her mouth. Anyways, an A is definitely possible (so harding working and A students shouldn't worry). I Love Terry! She's Very helpful and wants you to apply what you learn in real life. She's picky on the reading cards, gives 3 tests and 1 group essay. Very opinionated BUT makes it clear she isn't trying to push it on anyone. Use her lectures and notes! You can skip some reading but come back to it for the tests.
I absolutely loved this class and this teacher. She's very informative and passionate about her work. Her lectures are very straightforward and if you don't understand she will answer any question. There's a lot of reading so make sure you do that or else it'll be tough to pass the exams! Her test questions can be tricky as well! She's great!
She's fun. Talks about personal experiences, but it always connects to the material. Show up, do the assignments and readings and you'll do fine. Make sure she knows your face and name by the end of the course to get full participation points.
Love the class, it's something every college student should take even if you have no interest in marriage. Her lectures are informative and she's very passionate about what she does. Make sure to show up and participate fr those extra points.
I learned a great deal. Her exams are difficult, and she'll shut you out or speed by you if you say something she does not like or agree with. She gives you extra credit opportunities. There is a lot of material to read for each exam. Pay attention to her comments in class. They will show up on an exam. She is very blunt, but not a bad professor!
This class is very informative, be ready to engage in conversations about what you read. Her tests are hard only if you don't know how to apply what you read and discuss in class. She does speed through her classes because she likes to spend 20-25 minutes just on "discussion" which is pointless BUT she did post the lectures online after.
Best professor you will ever had! I have taken both her FCS340 class and the internship class. She will change your life.
Course content very intersting, easy tests if you review her lecture notes. Shes kind of mean, participation is very important. reading the textbook is kind of pointless if you takes notes and review her lecture notes.
her lectures are intersecting and vey simple so you don't expect her tests to be this hard!This general course ruined my GPA basically. She gives the toughest exams ever for irrelevant subjects. exams are based on readings, textbooks, lecture notes and everything she says in the class , even news!
The course is interesting and you gain a lot of info that could be applied to everyday life, but I will say that the tests are difficult only because she makes them tricky to the point where you're second guessing yourself on which answer to pick. Attendance is a must in this class because the tests are based on the lectures. Very picky grader too.
This class makes you work hard for a grade that in the end youmd think you earned higher. She makes you do all the work but grades very tough. People who don't have an assignment/turned in an assignment late would get a Zero & those who have turned in an assignment on time and worked hard on them can get Zeroes to just because she didn't like it
Professor Hatkoff has a bad rep but she's not that hard, as long as you do the readings, skim through the textbook and listen to what comes out from her mouth you will pass, I did horrible in the first two exams and got A' s in the last two exams. I recommend office hours, she will tell you exactly what to do in order to pass, I liked the class!
This was my first SOC class and I loved it, it was a lot of reading and information but it was very interesting and she made it fun. You must buy the reader, do the reading and the reading assignments or you won't pass. I really looked forward to this class!
Dr. Hatkoff may seem intimidating at first but she genuinely cares about her students. 8 reading cards, 1 paper, and 4 tests all based on readings and lectures. Attendance is required to be successful. She wants you to work hard for your grade- no easy A's. She's tough because she wants to grow us as students. Respect her, she'll respect you.
Very smart lady and fair. If you don't put in the work, her class will be hard. There are 3 tests in the semester. If you do the readings and homework, you'll do well on the tests and get a good grade. Offers extra credit so it is very possible to get an A in the class. She is going to challenge you, but you will be a better student because of it.
Terry is very nice! She does do a good job lecturing. She also requires students to participate in class discussions and encourages students to ask questions. Be sure you come to class ready to learn and do to the work.
She is a tough grader, but she wants her students to understand the bigger picture. This class was very insightful and applicable in real-life scenarios. She offers an ample amount of extra credit for those who struggle with taking her tests. Would highly recommend taking her!
She is very clear on what she wants and how she wants it. She grades fairly, and she gives a great amount of extra credit. Do the work and it's easy to pass.
participate in class and show that you are engaged and you will get extra points, do the simple readings and write the report is the only "homework" aside from the readings. exams are not to difficult just make a study group and you should be fine. she doesnt really give out study guides but she tells you inclass whats on the test take her!!!
Great Professor, I have taken two classes with her and am signed up for another! She knows her subjects and takes the time to help students. She can be abrupt, and she does not like to waste time. If you are not serious, or need hand holding, don't take her class.
I honestly have never written a review for a professor before until today, she has mentioned that she looks at these too so I hope she sees this. She's probably the most annoying human with little man syndrome. She rude, loves to call out students during class, and is over all the worst type of human to ever come in contact with. horrible professor

Taking her right now and let me just say DO NOT TAKE! She will catfish you and make the class seem easy but in reality she is a very hard grader. She is also rude and likes to publicly shame students if you question her. Also she will make you write so much in under an hour it is ridiculous do not take.

At first I was a bit scared for my grade due to the first test. She can be a tough grader, but study and you will pass. She loves when students participate in her class. She can be somewhat of intimidating. Get ready to take LOTS of notes. She doesn't provide any power points she just speaks the whole class, and those are your notes. Easy class.
One of the worst professors I have taken at CSUN. Tough grader and does NOT give feedback, instead just tells you that you did a horrible job and will straight up give you a zero. She is also extremely rude and disrespectful,she will yell right in your face.
This was a challenging class, but do your part and you'll be fine. I took her a year ago and still think about her class. I learned SO MUCH. She lectures all class and doesn't provide powerpoints so you have to write FAST. Study hard and prepare to write a lot. She gives essay tests. I got 100% on her test because I worked HARD. Don't slack off
