I am an excellent math student and was getting a C in this class until I dropped it. In fact 90% of the class dropped with me. I don't think anyone managed an A. My advice: stay away. Take Christensen if possible.
I had him last fall for intermediate algebra and although he seems like a nice guy and wants to help you, he didn't know how to explain things to where you could understand him. I think he can't see it from the point of view of a student.
Bad. Bad. Bad.
His class ruined my 4.0! Over 75% of my class dropped and rightly so. He can't explain what he means, he always gets off topic, and when he writes examples on the board, he often gets even the simple math wrong.
I thought he was a very fair teacher. A few people dropped the class when I took it, but everyone who worked hard got their A's.

I actually like this guy. I did drop 120, but it was because i got behind in my work and couldn't catch up. He's very nice, and if you ask him, he will help you any way he can. he has a strange sense of humor that's not really funny. laughed anyway, to be nice.
terrible
horrible teacher,,,, for real...
Very nice person but his sense of humor put me to sleep. Lots of his teaching didn't make much sense to me. I aced the class mainly from immersing myself in the book.
Worst teacher I've ever had
no good
he was one goofy ****.
He's definately not the world's best teacher but he definately makes sure you know the material and deserve your grade. I worked my butt off and managed to get an A, but his tests are really tricky.
Not very clear. Tends to blab about his babies and less about math. Likes to pretend that everyone knows Math already. Test are about as easy as getting Paris Hilton to wear a parka. The fun colored cover sheets on test are awesome! Nothing quite says congradulations you got a D- on the test, like a hot-pink sheet of paper. Needless to say the class made me want to die, so I dropped.
He's so weird. He says jokes that aren't even funny and then has to say that they're jokes because they're so bad.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible.
He's kinda weird. Very complicated, and doesn't go over anything more than once. He kinda creeps me out.
If you can't tell by the number of comments already here, he is by far one of the most confusing teachers you will have and his jokes cause awkward silence. I failed his course and re-took it with another teacher and got an A.
Very hard class, I can't understand him. Free advice if you want to get a good grade don't take his class.
horrible teacher! If you have this guy, get your text books and paper and get out of the class.
don't ever take this man. IF you have this guy drop him immediately....
Extremely confusing teacher, gets off topic easily. There were many times where he would try and joke around, and the class would just go silent for awhile. Everyone that i've talked to about him has said the same thing on campus. I ended up getting so far behind and fed up with studying so hard and gettings F's, I didnt even take the final.
this was a hard class, but he's a fair teacher
Genious and friendly, helpful and entertaining, but by no means easy. Take Hobbs' classes if you are prepared to study diligently.
This teacher made me give up on myself. I Dropped the class as early as I could so I could still get an a decent grade in a different class. Hobbs is a world of pain; bad jokes, awkward silences, inaudible mumbling and relentless boringness. Most people crack on the pressure of school, Hobbs himself destroyed my confidence. WORST. TEACHER. EVER.
this guy is a horrible teacher in my opinion
He moves at a very fast pace. His test are very hard and tricky. He does not teach the material well. I got my first C in this class
Mr. Hobbs is a great teacher, he really knows his stuff, but he is also a hard teacher, no "handouts" here. He also teaches trig. and calc. so I think he has a harder time explaining lower level math classes to his students. But yes, his jokes are horrid!!
I thought that overall he was a good teacher. We worked at a solid pace and he helped me greatly improve my math. His practice exams were also very helpful when used as a study guide. Not many math teachers give you practice exams and I would have really been lost without them.
I have never been good at math and it still remains one of my weakest subjects, but Hobbs explained it in a way that was understandable. Even when I didn't do the best on the tests he was still there offering my advise and helping me find alternative study methods.
Where do I even start. His teaching is not clear, he makes a lot of mistakes in his work when teaching a section, his jokes are terrible, the tests are hard and different from the study guide, you don't get partial points, your grade is from 5 tests. Basically the class sucked and I didn't even want to be in there. Take a different teacher.
Good teacher but you have to do the homework in order to get the grade
Do not take hobbs' class unless you are willing to put out ample effort... he is a very hard professor, not a jerk, just very demanding
Presents things in a way that is not confusing. He records notes on his computer that you can download if you miss a class which is helpful. No extra credit assignments and my class recieved no homework. Grade is purely based on tests. DOES give partial credit though. Would not recommend
He seems like a nice man...but he just cant teach very well. He basically just stands up in the front of the class room and works out the problem, he doesnt really show you how the problem is done.
Like others have said. He's a nice guy. But extremely hard. You either have to just be really good at math in general or really determined to make it through his class. Oh, and his tests are pretty insane. He grades so picky, you do somethin like miss a negative. He darn near takes all the points way. Good luck!!!
he is a great teacher. i just loose focus.
I'll admit, math isn't my strong suit, but there's just something about this guy that makes it impossible to learn. I was holding an F average in his class and pulled out just before the deadline. One semester later, with a different teacher, I was one of the top students in my class and was setting the curve on tests. Don't take this teacher.
I can also admit, math is not my strongest subject, but it is next to impossible to succeed in this mans' class. He's always gotthese lame distracting jokes, rushes through thelittle explanation of equations that he does give, and basesyour grade off of tests alone.Iadvise choosing adifferent professor for ANY math.Dont waste your time cash like I did.
He's absolutely terrible. His class was so boring and half of the time he didn't even know what he was talking about. His tests are nothing of what he told you to study and looking nothing like the practice test. Don't take this teacher if you suffer in math. You'll just have to retake it.
Very hard. Grades quite unfairly. I really love math, but this teacher makes things miserable. I got 98% on Calc. 1 with a different teacher. but with this bloke, I got a 83% even when I studied very hard. I really deserve an A! I really don't like this teacher and would strongly advise all to steer clear of this guy! I am not the joke around type.
I read through the previous comments and I think they're way too harsh. I took his Math 40 class and I got an A. Yes, I had to study and I had to do the homework, but this is college, people. It's not high school and no one is going to hold your hand through it.
I have respect for the dude for trying to get involved with the class, but he just needs to stop it all. Very horrible teacher.
I wish I would of come here and read his ratings before signing up for his class. He is a worthless teacher. I've been able to keep up with the class with tutoring help. He is also very stiff and takes himself way too seriously. If you are not strong in mathematics...do yourself a favor and steer clear of this guy. TERRIBLE!!!
Horrible teacher!! Egotistical and full of wise cracks that a third grader could make. Over half of my class had dropped by mid-term. His attitude makes students afraid to ask for help and when you do he talks to you like you are stupid. He gives difficult tests that we only had 50 mins. to complete. AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!
Nice guy, not funny. HARD class. I went to class, did the homework, studied and still was totally lost at midterms, so I dropped. Works problems for you, but doesn't really know another way to explain if you don't get it. Take him only if you're serious about studying a ton, going to class religiously, and devoting your free time to math!
I took MATH 190 with professor Hobbs and I'm taking MATH 210 with him this semester. Professor Hobbs is one of the best professor I ever had. Good professors always give you a hard time. You are here to learn, not brag about your grades. If you don't get that go back to high school or go cry somewhere else!
Took college algebra and trig with him. He knew what he was talking about, and he was easy to understand. Knew what to expect on tests. Easily got an A both times, although some other students didn't.
He was very hard. While he knows what he is talking about he is a poor teacher. He does not have homework so your tests are your grade and they are super confusing.
Very nice professor. Make sure to do the homework. If you don't understand something, ask. He will go over it. If you do the homework and understand the notes in class, you will not have a problem on the exams.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! he is very comfusing! rushes through the material, borin to listen to, and when you ask questions he just refers you to the math lab. he doesnt care about student success and thinks that his average grade being a low C is great. hes very rude and cannot understand that his students all learn in diff ways.ITS HIS WAY OR THE HIGHWAY!
Hobbs is a terrible teacher! Unless you're good at math, that is going to be the only way you will understand him! He expects you to know alot of material, He rushes through the lectures, if you don't get it he send you to the math lab. Your only grades are tests and the final! Best advice to give you! DO NOT TAKE HOBBS!!!!!
I did not pay to hear about his kids, nor about vague, obvious life lessons. his tests contain One Of Everything. Very little variety of problems worked in class, of little complexity. Very picky about form of answer and process (restating lim X->0 beginning every line, discrepancies about simplifying answers) Go for Greg Mitchell
He's an awful teacher. He speeds through the lectures, leaving you barely any time to write what he's written. He makes a lot of mistakes too. There's usually someone there to correct him but not on the study guides. His study guides are useless and are confusing a lot. I have to depend on them though since the in class lectures are awful.
This teacher is not helpful at all. He kept saying you could go to him for help, but then you just felt stupid when you did. A tough grader, but makes his own mistakes.
Terry Hobbs is a nice instructor, who speak and understand the Maths language. He is good for those with strong background in Maths. His tests are limited, standard and requires you to be rational before you can undo the problems. He is a tough grader. You must solve extraneous problems on your own before you're eligible for his test. I like Him.
This is the single worse college-level class I've ever taken anywhere. We sped through everything, then I'd go home and spend hours a day doing the assigned homework and extra only to get to the test and *occasionally* you'd hit a question that was in the homework. I transferred to a University and got a B. 70% of the people dropped by week 5.
I highly recommend Professor Hobbs. Had him for calc 2 and he left me feeling fully prepared for calc 3 ,which I'm enrolled in now at a university. He has a dry funny sense of humor and he's passionate about math. Lectures are straight forward and to the point. He was never condescending to any of the students in my class, he encouraged questions.
He was the worst math teacher Ive ever had, walked out of his class after my first test & just knew I had to drop. Hes one of those teachers EVERYONE has to correct during class when HES THE ONE TEACHING! I counted one lecture, we corrected 6/10 problems he wrote on the board! & If you ask for help, he just sends you to the student center. NO HELP!
He did an excellent job at getting the information across and would stop lecture if anyone was confused and work on a certain section until everyone was comfortable with the information.
Not Good.
I expected an online class to have lighter work load than in class study. Not so!
Could not learn from him AT ALL. He put me off many times by trying to be funny when he was not. In fact, he was very insulting, as he told people that if they had taken math multiple times to just give up. How inspiring is that? He just had a poor attitude toward struggling students. Not everyone is successful the first time around.
He only takes tests for a grade. Always talks about his kids and doesn't teach the subject very well, in my class we had a SI leader and she definitely taught the subject better than he did. DO NOT TAKE HOBBS
Terry Hobbs is a terrible teacher. I would never ever take him again. He does not go through all the materials, only reads through and does not show you enough examples or answer your questions. Might as well sit at home and read the book yourself, i think you will have much better chance to pass this class by self teaching.
He's very tough and will not give you an inch, isn't good for online,he may be better as an in class teacher. You can't miss anything. Not a compassionate teacher. Does not treat you as an adult, he treats you as a high school student when it comes to questions and advice. His class is very hard, would not suggest for online!!
Tough teacher but glad you took the class when it's done. On the contrary really prepares you for your engineering classes. Really approachable. Usually in his office before class so take advantage. Knows what he is doing. He puts his notes on blackboard unlike other professors who are stuck in stone age.
Tough Teacher, expects you to know a lot right of the bat. Only grade is are tests and they are very difficult. He provides like one example of a concept and expects you to comprehend it instantly. It doesn't feel like he teaches just reads through notes. Feels insulting when he calls on you and you do not know the answer he gets degrading.
Honestly, I spent hours studying and working on the assigned work but learned nothing. I was just doing my best to keep up with everythingIf you do have to take his class, make sure you take easier classes that semester. His tests pretty much weigh your entire grade. You only have one night to learn 5 different theorems. I hated this class.
Mr. Hobbs never had a good attitude towards the class. He never welcomed the students to seek his help. I did all the homework and spend hours studying and I felt like I knew the material, but on the test he would test us on material we never covered. Then he would blame the class for not studying, seems like a disservice to everyone. Ridiculous!
I have always been an A student in every math class to date. With that said, I have no idea what any of his tests even asked me to do. Much less, was I able to provide an answer to them. Lectures were extremely confusing. I somehow found the internet answered my questions much easier than he could. Also, 100% credit is based on tests. GOOD LUCK!
This professor moves at his own pace and even if the whole class fails its all the classes fault and nothing to do with him and he makes that clear to the class. the tests are insane he doesn't tell you what to look for on the test so you study out of the book and off the notes and then the test will be completely different, and all grades are test
Terrible attendance policy, if you're tardy by 5 minutes you are also counted ABSENT. 5 Tardy's and dropped. Would not recommend to anyone, wait for a different professor or take an online class. Treats you like a high school student and doesn't recognize everyone there has other things to do than just his class.
During lectures, he calls on every student in class to answer a question; us participating is to make sure we understand. Throughout lecture, he will ask the entire class if we understand before continuing. Also, he offers to help us during his office hours. So far I have an A, and that is b/c I study by doing the hw. If u dont do it, u wont pass.
The worst professor I have ever had!
This is a Test heavy class. Almost all your grades come from the test and quizzes you take in the class. Ask professor if you have any question, he will try his best to help. This is a college class, 5 min late you tardy. Fun jokes. Work through your homework and practice test and you should be fine. This college, don't act like a high school kid.
People complain about him but truly, if you do the homework you will pass. Its as simple as that. Dont do the homework and dont ask questions in class and youre wasting your own time. Also hes not bad at grading test. There is a lot more he could take points off for but doesnt.
Mr. Hobbs is a really great teacher and probably one of the best math teachers I have had. He's always willing to answer questions or explain things if you want. I liked the way he teach, and his lecture is very clear. I would definitely recommend him.
all grades are test. if you dont study outside of class you wont understand material..
Great guy. Best teacher I've ever had & the only class Ii look forward to. Though it's hard work and lots of homework, what else could you expect if you're trying to go into a mathematical or engineering career. Very real & no-nonsense though he has fun jokes during class. If you do good, he will compliment you & encourage you. Great teaching ethic
I really, really enjoy Mr. Hobbs' class. He's a no-nonsense instructor but he wants his students to succeed. He's outgoing, engaging, and lectures well. If you have questions, he's quick to help and guide you through understanding. I'm glad I chose his class this semester and will choose him for future courses if able!
have the class during the 2019 fall semester it is terrible not a great teacher in class, only gives 4 tests and those are your only grades for the semester besides the final. hardly gives partial credit even when he says he will.
It was very hard to take him seriously. One of my first classes he kicked me out for my phone going off for just a second. His hw didn't cover all of the test content. After meeting with him he said all I could do to study is hw. I did every homework problem and still didn't understand some of his test questions, filling 3 books. DO NOT TAKE HOBBS!
He really makes you work for it, but in the end it's so satisfying to be so prepared that you get 100s in his calc tests. His classes have caused me to understand math on a whole new level and I understand concepts way easier than I did in the past. Smart guy and is willing to help you with anything. He doesn't have a lot of mercy though, so STUDY
Lots of homework, but wont help you pass the test. Tests are ridiculously hard. Paid for a tutor to help me and still wasnt getting good grades. Missed one discussion board and dropped me right after the deadline to get my money back. Out of pocket student so basically donated $500 to the school and got nothing out of it.
First offthis guy is difficult. If your algebra is rusty, he will make you suffer for it. I dropped his class, but I appreciate the rigor of it, as I may do better in another teachers class. If youre struggling, I suggest a different teacher. If you know the concepts well, then he will strengthen your understanding. As for me? Ty but no ty.
He makes a normally boring subject somewhat interesting
Toughest course I've ever had by far. He is extremely tough in a class where the material is already tough. It was the first course that ever made me seek extra help in his office. He's always available. He grades tough, but if you study A LOT, you will be fine. Went on to breeze through calc 3 with a 100% the next semester. He's also pretty funny.
He likes to move through the lesson really quick and if you do not understand the first time, you have a better chance at youtube than asking him questions. Very strict on how he grades like even if you miss one symbol he counts points off. Memorize everything because he will use anything and everything on the test and they are 20-50 questions long
Do your work, study those lecture notes and never skip class and you'll do fine. Hes tough but its worth it and you'll learn so much and wont forget because he grades everything and makes you work for it but it will come in handy in the long run. He's always willing to help during his office hours and he wants his students to succeed. Great prof.
Textbook is not required but its practice problems are incredibly helpful. Terry sometimes picks on his students, but it doubles as a great reason to pay attention. Make sure to PRACTICE! Understanding the material is incredibly important. Be prepared to spend many hours working practice problems and reviewing the notes. No curved grades.
Terry can be a tough grader if you don't follow instructions. But if you become aware of those little mistakes early on you'll save yourself a lot of bad grades. Also just do the homework and study the lecture notes and you'll be golden. He explains everything well inside of class as well as outside through email/messages and he wants to be helpful
Took his class during the Fall semester at home. The material can most definitely be difficult and studying/homework is a must or it will cost you. In class he has a pretty good sense of humor and calls on every student at least once like it or not... so pay attention. All in all a good class if you are willing to put in the work.
Hobbs is an awesome person and professor. He is the best math instructor I ever seen. He was so funny, very understanding and always ready to help.
If I had to rate all my professors, Terry Hobbs comes in dead last. Absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had, no doubt. Teaches at a breakneck pace, only way to understand the material is if you already know it. His tests consist mostly of material you've never covered before, or combinations of concepts that were never taught. Avoid him.
A horrible professor. He doesnt teach his own classes & literally pulls random YouTube videos to teach his class. He gives out probably 5-8 assignments a WEEK. I have other classes to do dude, chill out.
Had Terry for diffeq, Really as long as you follow the lecture notes, go to class and ask questions, you'll pass! You may have to put in some extra work for homework but the test is usually nothing unexpected. He only puts questions on the test that we went over in class and on the notes. For me, easy A. Great guy
this man is the worst teacher ive ever experienced. he is rude, calls on people who dont want to be called on, and makes you feel dumb. he dropped me from his course because i missed 2 classes that i told him in advance I would miss because my grandma was in the hospital. hes a sick man. Run while you have the chance. stay away from him. fr.
yall know that song Tampa by Cico P that goes that boy bad news he a menace to society yeah im 100% positive that was written about this man. Awful teacher, even worse of a person. He calls on you when you dont want to be called on, so disrespectful, and just all around disgusting. No wonder his name is Terry.. must be short for terrible.
I think if i saw this man on the street id turn into floyd mayweather. someone tell this man to quit his job. if he called on me one more time i think i would have tracked his IP address & went a knockin on his door and hit him with that 1, 2 combo. i promise if you take his class you wont just have seasonal depression, but all year round. run.
avoid at all costs! Randomly calls on kids in class & makes you feel dumb when you don't know the answer. Test are nothing like the 4 hours of homework he assigns you everyday. Might as well get paid his salary because I had to teach the content to myself. The only grades are the impossibly hard tests. Not very helpful when you ask questions.
Terry Hobbs is absolutely terrible. doesn't know how to teach the material and you will end up teaching yourself everything. the only grade you receive is from quizzes, exams, and the final. there are no assignments to cushion your grade, so either pass or fail. every single person in my class was either confused, failing, or ready to drop.
Please I beg of you, never take this class if you have a choice. Hobbs is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. A grade higher than a D is practically a unicorn in this class, and comprehending anything that comes out of his mouth is like going through the door to Narnia. Run while you still have a chance.
I've taken a lot of online and in person classes and this is honestly the worst professor I've had in an online setting. He is completely unavailable for help, doesn't answer emails until a week later, and takes attendance by a discussion board post where he asks you to explain things you don't understand. If I could give this a negative I would.
This class and teacher was my least favorite class taken. There was a lack of respect towards students that inflicted on grades and ability to learn. This class was test heavy with little to no guidance on ways to study for exams. I would not recommend this Professor to my worst enemy.
He doesn't Make the notes the same as the review, I keep looking for notes that can help me. I'm still struggling with review sheets after 4 hours of practicing because the notes, the test, and the assignments have different concepts and different looking equations. It doesn't make any sense. I've never struggled with a class this badly,
Absolutely one of the worst professors Ive ever had. He expects you to use so much of your time on his class, even if you have work or other classes. No matter how much help I got, the tests (which there were few of) were constantly confusing. I do not know a single person with an A or B in it. Run away, do not take his class!!
Absolutley awful in every aspect. He expects you to already know the material before you get to class and treats you like you're stupid if you ask any questions. I had to dedicate many hours a week attempting to teach my self concepts that he should've been.
I had so many people tell me not to take his class and warn me about how bad he is. I really wish I would've listened. Now I'm stuck stressing and trying to teach myself the material every day. Its so straining, its driving me crazy. all I need to do is pass and right now that's questionable.
Professor Hobbs is hands down the worst teacher I've ever had. He was condescending and patronizing towards students and he never taught the material in a clear or concise way in fact most the time I felt he even confused himself . It's gotten so bad that the class of 30 I started with it now 12. Do yourself a favor don't ever take his class.
He takes points of randomly and his tests and quizzes are just not doing math only. you have to memorize the definition, I mean for what?? as long as you understand the math that's what matter. I had him for pre cal long time ago, it wasn't that bad but he's getting worse and making people life harder.
Had him for Calculus I; thought he was a great teacher and I believe he taught the content well. Also had a sense of humor. If you are someone who genuinely enjoys math, you will think he is a great teacher.
If you are planning on taking college algebra do not choose Terry Hobbs. He is by far the toughest teacher at maple woods. Other college algebra teachers at MCC use online tests so you can literally cheat if you want too(I don't know why but this is true). Terry does not use online tests, it is in paper. I got lucky and got a c-.
Lol even the guys in the math lab know he is a terrible teacher. They tried to help me understand the notes but couldnt help me.
I had Mr. Hobbs for Trig & Calc I. Though his classes overall were very difficult for me & I barely passed, he was easily the best teacher I have ever had. He always made time for me & if I had a question, he wouldn't hesitate to rearrange his schedule. If you want a math teacher that cares about you & your success, Terry Hobbs is the way to go.
Professor Hobbs is not a professor that students going into college want as one of their first professors. He only grades tests which makes it so stressful to study. He also would get things wrong in class and mess up on problems and his students would have to correct him. I don't think it's too much to ask for him to know what he's teaching.
This professor is a tough one. I took his Calc. 1 class (as well as Calc. 3 and am currently taking Diff. Eq. with him), but all I will say is this: You want someone who will make you earn that A, he will do that.
Not well communicated. No notes and only graded on tests and exams. Not pleased.
The few things that I appreciate about Mr. Hobbs is that he enjoys his job and is good at teaching. He took the time to answer students questions and he gave us lots of resources to study from. However, he was the toughest grader that I ever had. I heard that from last semester, only 6 out of 25 students passed his class from his tough grading.
Hobbs was always helpful and open to questions. Grades are based only on tests but he's clear about his expectations and often gives partial credit. I think the reason he gets a bad rap on here is because he may not be the best for those who don't already enjoy math, but I also think he's a great teacher if you're willing to put in the effort.
Not surprised if you fail a class taught by him
Don't take this class, if you don't pass it will set you behind a semester, or if it is a pre-req for another class then you will be behind even more. Don't recommend it!
Great prof with great lectures. He explains the concepts well and posts all the notes he did in class on Canvas. He assigns homework but honestly it is optional. In his class you will have to eventually participate as he randomly calls on people a lot. To pass just pay attention in lecture and study your notes
dude sucks
Mr. Hobbs is a great teacher. He is difficult and an extremely strict grader but he will make you understand calculus if you show up to class and do the homework. Grades are composed entirely of tests so be prepared to study a lot.
Professor Hobbs knew what he was talking about at all times. It was a hard course, but he expertly navigated the book and taught well. He did test hard, but he also put an extra +5 on tests so notation wouldn't drop you a letter. He did make you deserve the A, but it was worth it and he did an exceptional job very clearly. He was exceptional.
I had Terry Hobbs for Calc I, II, III and Diff Eq. He is a great professor. He has accessible office hours and thoroughly answers any questions you might have. Although he is a tough grader and his classes are graded solely on exams, they are certainly manageable. If you do not put great effort into his classes, you will probably fail.
Mr. Hobbs only grades off of tests, but assigns homework he will never grade but will take you around 6 hours to complete. His tests also have nothing to do with the notes you take in class. You'll have to teach yourself most of the work as well. Best advice I can give you, stay away from his class.
Hobbs as a professor can be good in certain circumstances, but overall I think the way he teaches and grades is horrendous. Most of the grade is made up of 5 quizzes, counting 100 points each, while every assignment given only ever reaches 100 if you ace all of them. The text book is not grate at teaching, and he docks points for using notes.
lowkey the goat frfr no cap. nah but for real though, he's an amazing person. he's very kind and cares deeply about how his students are doing. you can go to him anytime & he'll be more than willing to listen. yes, math is challenging, but Hobbs will make sure that you are prepared for any future math endeavors. be willing to learn & you'll be fine
If you have him for an online class. it may be best to not expect a grade for the entire semester as he never puts them in what so ever but is quite strict. This is very frustrating especially at the end of the semester when they still have not been entered. I do believe he is helpful in ways, but he is very inconsiderate of the student needs.
I truly have not enjoyed my semester with him, I just don't understand his method of teaching. He expects you to teach yourself. I still have no idea what my grade is in this class halfway through the semester because he has not posted a single grade!
Let me set something straight NEVER TAKE THIS GUY I took his pre cal at MCC the HOMEWORK WILL NOT SAVE YOU NOR THE STUDY GUIDES lots of homework that's already hard to understand and then the test are WAY WORSE this was the ONLY class I did terribly in NEVER AGAIN WILL I TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HIM PLS LISTEN AND JUST DON'T
Terry Hobbs is a challenging professor, but engaging with his teaching methods can pay off. I found Unstuck AI and the free textbook really helpful for preparing for his tests.
Complete waste of my time and money, i was taught like i knew all about calculus. He will ask you to spell the vocab word exactly or it will be wrong. The grades are locked for all his classes so you can't see your percentages. his notes are so much easier from the test. it would be better to learn by dropping a math book on your head, Don't take.
You will be proctored on every test, you are not allowed to use your notes. "Extra credit" was 1 point for the whole semester. Your final exam will be over the entire semester, not just the last few weeks of work that you did. I bought the textbook, did it use it a single time. The videos he assigns barely pertain to the material. -100/10 :)
I really enjoyed Mr. Hobb's class. The C is pretty much entirely my fault, He teaches clearly and with informative visual examples and I would never study. I think he's pretty funny and were I to ever find the motivation to try at math I think I would do well and anybody else would as well.
Do not take this professor for any class. No study guide for exam. Isn't that the whole point of an exam is to confirm concepts yet we can't have a study guide?! You get one low grade on exam well to bad guess you ain't getting that A or B you wanted. Teaching from a packet like what, not going over the questions you'll see on an exam is diabolical
He did not know how to teach this class, making things up like positive and negative zero. His lectures made no sense and he skipped over important rules needed in calculus. (This was my second time taking calculus and it was more confusing than the FIRST time doing it).
I took it online and his presence was basically useless. I asked him questions through chats and he responded later than the due dates, never understood where I was confused and overall not helpful. I barely passed thanks to me having to teach myself the entire time. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Be smarter than me and don't take it.
He does lots of talking about calculus during the class and not enough examples and then expects you to understand how to do the homework. If he would quit talking and do more examples so I can understand the process, I would probably do better.
I'm in a trade so I can't pick my professors due to a constricting schedule, so I had to take Professor Hobb's Trig class. He talks a lot, assigns 100-200+ homework problems a week, and there is no study guide for any tests or quizzes. The way he talks to student during his lectures is extremely unprofessional, making it hard to focus.
I had professor Hobbs for two class periods while my professor was out and let me tell you, those were the worst two days of my life. He assigned 100 questions of homework. He would call on people to answer during lecture before he even taught the concept, like hello, I clearly don't know. I was on the edge of my seat the whole class, never again.
He doesn't communicate the essence of the material very well. Like he will just go right into solving problems with no preamble so no one really knows what's going on. To make matters worse he's also very strict with everything from tests to attendence. Like I would understand if he was also a good teacher, but you have to earn the strict card.
Every negative review you read is NOT LYING nor are they overexaggerating. Only less than 10 students out of 30+ pass the class and half of the class, including me, had to drop the course IN THE FIRST MONTH. Even my academic advisor warned me... I wish I had listened. Most unprofessional teacher ever, idk how he's still not fired, he's diabolical.
He's one of the most absurd graders I've ever see, his grading sometimes it's overly exaggerated. He'll deduct points for using a color he dislikes (methaporically) or for tiny notation issues. Everything in lecture is on the exam, no matter how minor. Exams start at 6:30 AM, even though class begins at 8. It's totally unreasonable DONT_TAKE_IT!
This professor is one of the hardest I've ever had. You are supposed to do all the 30+ questions of homework per chapter of course, it's optional, but if you don't do it, he will test you over it. The final exams are a nightmare. He does not give any guide to study for it he just says"Review all the past 5 exams, that will come in the final"Really?
This professor has to be one of the worse in my academic career. what the negative reviews say are true do not take this man if you do no understand math. I have gotten A's in all my courses besides this man. He dosen't teach nor does he give study guides he calls them dumb. If he would take the time to go over concepts better he would be decent...
This guy and tests aren't terrible if you do the massive amount of homework. As long a!!s you prepare well and do most of the hw questions you will be fine. The final tests questions were similar to the past tests. Lectures are alright but he gives you guided notes that are easy to follow along with and study/review with. DO THE HOMEWORK!
I don't think all of the negative reviews are accurate honestly. I could've definitely passed with an A, but I did miss some class periods and made small notation mistakes on exams. DO THE HOMEWORK! Use different resources to study different problems and even create a practice exam for yourself. DO NOT EXPECT STUDY GUIDES!
I had Professor Hobbs for MATH180, 190, 210, and 230. He is genuinely the most caring and knowledgeable teacher I've had. He is a difficult grader, but if you pay attention in class and do the homework, you'll get a sense of what will be on the exams. I would definitely recommend this professor, but you have to be willing to put in the work.
I took this prof for Calculus 2 over the summer and let me tell you, he is one of the worst profs in my college career. His entire grading policy was solely based on 6 exams, so if you're not the best test taker like I am, don't take this course with him. He didn't make study guides and his lectures weren't very detailed so do all the homework.
Dude isn't built to be a teacher. Sure, he knows the stuff and has lots of knowledge on math but he cannot share it properly especially to those with less than basic math abilities (which is fine! That's me!). Regurgitates books and says book is required but doesn't use it (you can though). I'm dropping the class as quick as possible!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He expects you to know everything before he teaches it. Lectures cover only one or two problems with no explanation, assuming you instantly understand. The class started with 20 students; by the time I dropped it, only 5 remained, more than half gone in less than a month.
hes lame and unsupervised
ABSOLUTELY NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS! I took this class online and never once understood what was going on. The lecture videos only worked through like 3 problems with ZERO explanation and it was impossible to reach out to him.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! The negative reviews are not exaggerated! Class started with 30 people, ended with 10. I passed this class because I could afford to study 20 hours a week. If you have kids, a job, or other duties outside of his class, you won't pass. He expects you to know the material ahead of time. He's a good guy, but a crummy teacher.
Although Terry was a good guy, his grading was extremely hard as well as his tests. There was no extra credit! If you don't answer his verbal lecture questions in “his language” then you're wrong…. If you're not great at math…. DONT TAKE THIS!
