Dr. Hughston is awesome. Very helpful if you come to him. His class is pretty easy if you go to class and pay attention.

Mr.Terry is such a great guy! He keeps the class light with jokes and no tests, just papers. Just be sure to really read and know the material! He is so sweet and will go out of his way to help you if you go to him.I would definitely reccommend his class!

Easiest class I've taken since I've been at UA! Dr. Hughston is a great professor and very laid back. Tests are easy if you study the study guides online and PowerPoints are posted on BlackBoard!

This is the easiest political science class. He is a very helpful and laid back teacher. Pay attention and take notes. Don't really use the book much. Test are easy if you look at the study guides.

This is the easiest course you will ever take at UA. If you want an easy A for showing up, this is your class. If you are a PSC major who is a politics junkie and are wanting an actual educational experience worth your outlandish tuition, take another professor. Hughston is nice he just lacks the ability or drive to deliver a challenging course.

Take this classany class with Terry!!!! He is a wonderful teacher and I wish I could take him again. Reading and discussion based class with essays thrown in. No tests. You really feel like you're gaining something from his teaching, he engages you in what can be a boring subject. A+!!!!

Really enjoyed this class. I'm not someone who enjoys theory, but he was incredibly thorough in his explanations and didn't make them dry or boring and tried to relateit to real life. You don't have tests, but papers that are only 2 pages long. Awesome class overall

Honestly the best professor I've had at this University; no other professor has cared and paid attention to students in my courses the way he did. Really educational and passionate, the coursework is fun, and the discussions are great. A little nerdy, but definitely in the good way.

Two tests. A ton of extra credit. Youll be ready for tests just by listening. Actually teased the A students who care the most about the class which was weird and hard to understand, but overall seems a nice person. Would def take again for the clear cut instruction and his overall disposition. Youre never lost in there.

Mr. Hughston is awesome! Attendance is mandatory is this class. You're only allowed to miss class 3 times and then he starts counting off on your grade. He gives tons of extra credit and really breaks down the material. Literally he is such an easy professor. He post all lecture slides on blackboard. If you want an A, then take Mr. Hughston!

Terry is really great in his lectures-- he explains all of the concepts and breaks things down so they're more understandable. Don't worry if you don't do the reading, everything is explained well enough that you can just use notes for your papers. There are 5 2-3 page papers and a 4-6 page final. He offered extra credit and we watched The Matrix.

Hughston is one of the biggest inspirations I have had as a student. I would take him a thousand times over if I could. He truly respects each and everyones personal opinions and will even take off your grade if you don't have one! He does not believe in tests but does offer about 5 2-3 page short response papers and a term paper. TAKE HIM!!!

You don't have to read the books he assigns at all. Just take good notes in class and reword your notes when writing the short response and term paper. He says participation matters but I only said one thing the entire semester and made an A+.

He is one of the best professors I've ever had at UA. 100% recommend taking him. There are no tests, grade is based on essays and participation. He is an easy grader imo as long as you have original thoughts. Class discussion is great and he likes to get everyone involved.

I loved this class! Professor Hughston engaged students in his lectures and always made the course content relatable and easy to understand. The tests were easy as long as you went to class and studied the PowerPoints. Extra credit opportunities are available too.

Reall great professor. Just go to class on Fridays and keep up on all the quizzes outside of class. My biggest issue was remembering to do the quizzes before going out on a Friday night so learn from my mistake! Should have been an easy A class. Also, the midterm is all short answer so be sure to study. Luckily, he curves it.

One or two quizzes every Friday depending on how much material you cover during the week. Just one midterm and one final. Attendance isn't mandatory but it helps to attend and he also gives extra credit at least once sometimes twice a week starting about the third or fourth week of class. Only had a midterm and a final for this class with weekly online homework quizzes which weren't to hard if you didn't forget about them. Dr. Hughston is really nice and cares about class, everyday he asks about our lives and what's been going on. He likes when students talk with him. In his own words, he gives hard tests but is a forgiving grader.

I thoroughly enjoyed his class this semester. He always asked us about lives and let us lead the discussion, which he would then flow into his lecture. He really cares about his students and wants us to do well.

I took Dr. Hughston for PSC101 my first semester as a freshman at UA and I loved it. Attendance wasn't mandatory but I always went since I'm a polisci major and the course interested me. He really knows his stuff and he never puts anything on the tests (which are short answer) that he didn't discuss in class. Easy if you show up, got a 105.

Terry was literally one of my favorite professors I have ever taken. He makes lectures interesting and he's interested in our lives outside of class. The material is pretty easy and there's two tests with weekly online classes. I'm not even a poli sci major but I might take another class just so I can have Terry as a professor again!

His exams are all short answer/fill in the blank. He gives a lot of extra credit, including points just for being in class. There's one or two homework assignments per week but they're fairly easy.

He was quite good. By no means is he an inspirational professor that changed my life, but he does a good job teaching us the material and is genuinely interested in having a discussion about it, so I appreciated that aspect of his class. As long as you do the online quizzes and study for maybe an hour or two for the two exams, you'll get an A.

TH is a cool cat. Every class he starts by asking what good things happened to every one. He gives A LOT of extra credit points. Attendance not mandatory but randomly gives bonus points for showing up (usually right before and after breaks or when there is bad weather). There is an online quiz every week. He drops the 2 lowest grades. Fast lectures

TAKE HIM for PSC101. This was one of the most enjoyable courses I have taken. If you do not skip class you will have a very good clue of what is on midterm and final. He lays out expectations so clearly. He loves to give out extra credit if you go above and beyond expectations. I made 114 on final. Such a fun course.

By far one of the greatest college professors I have had yet! He genuinely cares about helping every one of his students pass with the highest grade possible. The overall grade of his PSC101 class is based on a midterm, a final, and weekly online quizzes that you take at home. He also gives many extra credit opportunities! 10/10 would take again!

Hughston is so kind and cares so much about his students and the grades they make. He makes it so easy to do well in his class if you just do the work provided. Attendance is not mandatory but he takes it sometimes and if you are there on those days, you get extra credit. Definitely take any class he teaches!

Terry is a great guy that actually wants you to pass and do well. His lectures are always entertaining and you can tell he loves to teach so its just more enjoyable. Definitely take this class.

One of the best upper level professors I have had so far at UA. Mr. Hughston is so kind and will make you have a discussion on the books that are required for the class. Reading is required for the essays in order to pass the course. However, he does break them down in lecture. Also, their are 5 essays in the course total.

The easiest professor you will ever have. Attendance is entirely voluntary (there were days 2 kids showed up). Only graded by 5 papers where if you have an general coherent idea of the topic you get an A.

I took 205 and 101 with Hughston. This class requires 5 short response papers that he basically gives you what to write on. Makes hard concepts easy to understand and is fun and caring. Weekly quizzes that have 3 questions that you can retake as many times as you want until you get a 100. Love this guy

Absolutely love Dr. Hughston. Had him for PSC101 and PSC321 and both classes were enjoyable. Very clear about his class expectations, put forth some effort and youll finish with a high A. Never stressed over this class, just dont skip too often as attendance is graded to a certain extent. Highly recommend him as a professor.

Class discussions are very interesting and broad. The readings are interesting as well. Just participate and get a good general knowledge of the readings and you will be good.

Easily one of Alabama's best professors. He is so extremely nice and checks in with his students every single day before class no matter what. We have a good 5-10 minutes before he picks up the recording to talk about our week and ask any questions and you can tell he genuinely wants to hear about it all. He is a very fair grader! take him!!!!

One of the easiest but most interesting classes I have ever taken. I did not go to class a single time but still got an A+ because this class just had you read from an online book and answer questions every Sunday. 10/10 would take again.

I have never had a professor care so much about his student's mental health. We even had mental health check-ins for extra credit. This is my second time taking his class, and I think everyone in the Political Science department should take him!

Dr. Hughston is amazing and is really passionate about the classes he teaches. I took Dr. Hughston for both PSC 101 and PSC 205 and enjoyed both classes. The classes were not difficult and he really cares about his students and making sure they succeed.

Dr. Hughston is an wonderful. His grading requirements are extremely fair. All the quizzes are online and are due in groups so you can do them whenever is convenient for you. The tests are easy if you read the book or paid attention in class and are completely online. Dr. Hughston also truly cares about his students and wants you to succeed.

Super fun to be in class with, and always tried to relate the material to things we would understand. Attendance is optional and occasionally worth extra credit but he records everything. You don't need the textbook or to read at all. His exams were basically open note and super easy. Super understanding and all around a really great professor.

Incredible professor. The textbook isn't really necessary because he uses powerpoint lectures. Invests time into talking to his students before starting the lecture. Quizzes and tests were all online. He communicates due dates and schedule changes very clearly. Overall, he is the best professor and I would 100% take again.

I showed up to only the first 2 classes and got an A. He posts power points from each chapter on blackboard. All assignments were online and every answer could be found straight from the power points . Don't know much about him since I never went to class, but it was a very easy class. Never opened the textbook so I wouldn't buy it.

Terry is a great guy who really cares about his students. He checks on us every day to see how we're doing. Minimal random attendance taken. You can get by without the textbooks because his lectures are all posted online with the ppts and his own lecture notes. Assignments are open book, he cares more about your thinking than content recall.

Super nice guy who puts his student's mental health first! this class was strictly papers but no more than three pages each. each paper gets a bonus assignment with it which is super helpful. Sometimes his political leaning is pretty obvious but he respects students who think differently than he does.

I thoroughly enjoyed prof. Hughston. It is very obvious that he cares a lot about his students well being both in and outside of the classroom. The content was very interesting and there was a lot of open discussion. Complex topics but he made it easy to understand. Weekly reading quizzes were simple and term papers were not horrible.

Amazing person and prof! He takes 5 minutes every day to ask us how our days were. He genuinely cares about his students and if any problem occurs he emails back quickly and is very understanding. There are only 3 papers including the final paper and 11 at-home quizzes. Super easy class and an amazing person overall. Can't recommend him enough!

His lectures are equally very good and you can tell he is passionate about what he teaches. (weekly google-able quizzes, 3 essays, posts lectures notes which make the essays easy, attendance mandatory for credit)

Can't say enough good things about Dr. Hughston, as long as you participate and provide good work you will succeed. I took all of his classes that I possibly could over my 4 years at UA and without a doubt was my favorite professor. As someone who prefers writing over taking a test, his classes were a great thing for me. 100% would recommend him!

literally the sweetest professor ever --- i switched in right before the add or drop deadline and he was so accomodating and welcoming. he makes all of his expectations so clear and you learn a ton but it's not difficult at all to have a great grade. he cares so much about his students' mental health and is amazing at giving engaging lectures too!

This class was incredibly easy with the grade being entirely made of 10 weekly quizzes and 3 short (800 word) writing assignments. The grading criteria for every assignment was clearly laid out and easy to understand. Dr. Hughston himself is amazing. Such a bright personality that loves to help his students.

Lectures and slides are both posted online, his attendance policy is flexible, and he is always willing to work with you if you need it. His lectures are engaging and interactive and he has a fun sense of humor. Great professor all around!

Great professor who does not let differing political views affect how he grades you. If you do the work, you will get a good grade. Super kind and caring of each of his students. He's been known to take students to appointments when needed and even change tires in emergency situations. One of the most accessible professors on campus.

I actually really like Terry. I took his class on a whim for a credit and he'zxvwqs super nice and very passionate. Its honestly impressive how he can make a topic so boring sound so interesting in his lectures. No tests just writing assignments and in class discussions. I already signed up to take him again next semester.

He's really nice and its an easy A but he's definitely not discrete about who he voted for and how he feels about certain people in politics. Makes jokes and judgements about people who vote for Trump very vocally.

It's not a difficult class. Just make sure you pay attention, take notes, and engage in discussions during class. You can make an A on every single test with barely any studying. I wouldn't buy the books he recommends because I never opened them up and did fine. He's a nice professor.

Great professor, I recommend! You have to attend lecture to do well on the 3 exams and he takes attendance, but the lectures are really engaging and interesting. Don't worry about buying the assigned books, he posts some reading material on Blackboard and other material you can find PDFs online. Exams are very straightforward and not difficult.

I loved Dr. Hughston's class because he made complicated topics easy to understand, but also put aside his political beliefs for grading purposes. I have had teachers that graded with very clear bias, but Dr. Hughston graded solely on the quality of the papers you wrote. Tests were also based on material taught in class.
