If you follow the outlines that he gives you this is one of the easiest classes. He makes you feel comfortable about speeking. Never negative in his feedback. Just remember to stay within the time limit because it could ruin a good grade.

Terry will be remembered as my favorite professor at mesa college. I took his class my last semester cause I was terrified of speech class but he set me at ease right away. We didn't even have to speak on the first day!

Absolutely the best teacher I've had at Mesa. Stop complaining about his grading - if you follow the speech formula, do *exactly* what he asks, and *practice* your speech - you'll be just fine. He's an outstanding teacher, extremely funny and genuine.

He was awesome! Follow his speech outline and use the cd rom for test preparation - it helps a lot. I think he is tough on guys. IDK, I'm a girl and got an A. I liked him alot - he was really funny.

Great Teacher!! Very helpful and has a desire to make everyone in class a better speaker. I got an A in the class. He expects everyone to participate. Allows you to speak on the topics that you want as long as you follow the format of the speech.

Giving speeches really intimidated me. The first day in class Terry puts you at ease with his kind and helpful personality. He has fair expectations, but does everything to help you meet them. I took his class during summer in a 4 week class. It was great the only bad thing is it's a speech a week (3 total). Great guy just listen and ask for help if you need it. It was my first A!

I took Terry's class short-term and it was excellent! Even though the class met on Friday nights and Saturday mornings, it was well worth it. I was not really interested in giving speeches, but Terry's teaching style makes the class fun and interesting. At the end of the class I had no problem speaking in front of fellow students.

Great class. Interesting and fun. Prof. is straight forward! Tells you what is on the test, study the material and you will get an A on the tests. He gives examples of what your speeches are supposed to be like! Follow the examples, include everything that he asks in your speech and you will be fine. Fun class.

Great class. Terry is very friendly and open, and makes the class fun and a good atmosphere for getting over 'fear of speaking' barriers. Prepare for the 3 speeches you have to give though (Think: it's only 5-7 minutes 3 times a semester); do not spcribble down notecards the night before and attempt to 'wing it'.

AWESOMEEEE. I took him like two years ago and the things i learned in his class are coming in soo handy right now. He's not a super hard grader, he helps you out a lot. You are not required to buy a text book, instead you get more of a lab book that has outline, notes, and everything you need in there.

Thinks speech class is the most important thing in the world. Super hard grader. marked me down a lot on two speeches because I was 2 seconds over. You will be dropped if miss 3 classes. Which is funny because he missed 3 classes himself.

This has been one of the easiest A's I have ever gotten. This class is mostly out of class work. Attendance is mandatory. There are 3 Midterms and a Final. Extra credit opportunities for all 3 of the speeches. Terry is a strict grader but he spells out EXACTLY what he expects from you.

GOOD PROFESSOR. VERY ENTERTAINING AND KEEPS THE CLASS FUN. BUT AN EXTREMELY HARD GRADER! (IN THE SENSE OF GETTING AN A). GETTING A 'B' IS EASY, BUT GETTING THAT 'A' IS HARDDDD. Good man! Just finished up his shortened 4 week class. Difficult, but rewarding. Classes were 4 hours on Fridays and 8 hours on Saturdays, but Terry made the time spent in class enjoyable. He provided an awesome learning atmosphere and I never once felt I was wasting my time. Difficult grader, but fair. Don't take this class from anyone else!

This class appears to be super easy; however, he grades HARD!!! Pay attention & attend class & study your notes & apply all the tips & requirements for each speech & you should do fine. DO GET clarification regarding your feedback, this way, you will do much better! His printing is horid...so ask!!! He works with you to improve! Do take!

I really dont like public speaking, but this class was actually enjoyable. I'm not sure if it was because I had good classmates, or because he was good, but I think it was the combo of both. He is really helpful and nice, funny at times, but is a hard grader. If you dont like public speaking take his class because he makes it seem less stressful.

What an amazing professor! For such a dreaded class I absolutely loved it! It is the only short term class I've taken that I didn't feel rushed. He does grade very harsh. Most people I saw were getting all B's on speeches. I tried my very hardest and walked away with a B so sad but that class was such a great experience I can live with that.

This guy runs a tight ship.. He has good intentions but he grades ridiculously hard. Only speech class i've ever heard of where you have to take 2 written midterms and a final and they are HARD. People who say he's a tough grader must have missed the objectives of the speeches. Be supportive towards your fellow students, be on-time, & do the work.

Great professor, very enthusiastic and tells hilarious genuine stories that keep the class interesting. He has very specific guidelines for the speeches you must do so just pay attention to those and you'll do fine. Other than that, he is a great orator himself and you will enjoy his lectures and activities. Cheap textbook as well!

Terry is a nice guy but is a super hard grader I did amazing on my speeches according to my peers evaluations and still received low grades for not moving around enough plus his tests are incredibly hard for what this class is. If you plan on majoring in this subject take him as it will be very serious if your just trying to finish your GE's avoid!

Great class! Terry is nice and helpful. He makes sure everyone in class is comfortable with each other. He grades fairly, as long as you stick to the guidelines. Overall great class. All of the information for tests and speeches is in a packet which is less than $10. Definitely recommend this class for comm majors or anyone taking GE requirements.

Tough Grader, if you do amazing presentations but do not include a very detailed outline you're screwed. Only take him if you have take a com class before or plan to major in that field.

I absolutely love Terry! He creates an environment for his student that is very easy to be in. I've learned to be a much better speaker and now have no problem talking in front of people. Im a VERY timid person. I had completely embarrassed myself giving a disastrous speech and dropped 103 class previous to taking this class. BUT Terry made class SO MUCH FUN and made even people like me to easily participate & comfortably give speeches. Im not so terrified for speeches anymore, and that says A LOT. I would get excited to go to this class! I loved it and I feel like it changed me as a person. I got to know everyone in the class, which I think was important for a comfortable learning environment. You do have to do work in this class but not a lot.

I was extremely concerned about my anxiety. Thankfully this professor runs a very thoughtful and warm class and I was able to develop my comm. abilities. Im thankful that I took his class. The whole class authentically bonded. I learned a lot about myself and how to communicate with my peers. Im now able to give a decent thoughtful presentation.

He was a good teacher. I took his 8-week course and had fun doing it. His grading is tough but if you follow the outline he gives you, listen to his critique, and do all of the speeches your fine. He was one of the few that really wanted you to get to know your classmates so it wasn't so scary speaking in front of them. I really enjoyed his class.

Terry is awesome. You do not have to be a good speaker to pass his class. If you follow his prompts for each speech, you will pass. You can make note cards to bring up with you for your speech as well. I did not study for the tests and I passed them all. He is a speech professor you want to take.

I was scared to take this class because it's communications and everyone is scared to take communications but it was my favorite class! Terry is an amazing teacher and a really really nice guy. He makes the class feel really comfortable with each other so speeches are fun! I definitely recommend.

First things first: Is a tough grader on the speeches. Even the "smart" kids struggled to get As on their speeches. There are 3 speeches, two of which are not that difficult but the 3rd is very difficult. Class times are usually spent on a breezy lecture and there is usually no HW. The textbook is super cheap, only like $15. Would recommend.

Terry is one of those few professors that you are so lucky to have stumbled upon. He takes all the nerves out of public speaking and makes class a blast all while while providing so much useful knowledge.

Four-week class with 3 presentations. I wasn't afraid of giving speeches, but writing is difficult for me. However he gave very clear guidelines, so all I had to do was compare my outlines to his guidelines to make sure I hit all the points. Pay attention in class. Study during breaks. Practice the speech. Writing outline is most time consuming.

Hands down one of the coolest professors I have ever had, I wish I could take more communication classes from Terry. Note packet used, tests are to the point. Great lectures, tons of activities, speeches are engaging and fun. I'm telling you! You have got to take his class! Terry, you're the man!

Terry was a good professor. I'm not a huge fan of his testing style which was true/false and multiple choice. The wording was convoluted at times. Iwasn't overjoyed by the specific requirements/structure he put onto his speeches that came paired with little guidance on topic. That being said, he stuck to his grading rubric closely for the speeches.

Take the 4-week course. It goes by quick and he lets the class out early. Stick to the time limits or you will get knocked points. Tough grader, and review the packet for all the test answers. Great teacher and made public speaking enjoyable by connecting you to your classmates so you felt more comfortable.

Terry was a by far one of my best professors I've ever had. The textbook is "mandatory," but it's less than 6$ and everything you'll need for the two tests (Midterm & Final) is in there (study). Pro Tips: -Put your phone away - "it'll change your life" -Be on time, and be present -Especially during presentation days. -Follow speech guidelines.

Terry was probably one of the best professors that I have had at Mesa. I took his oral communications class and I hate public speaking, I get so nervous and shy, but professor Terry makes you feel welcomed more than anything! He is super caring and understanding. I highly recommend taking his class. I'm truly sad that it had to come to an end!

Ive never liked speaking in front of an audience but terry is really good at creating a welcoming environment, and he has students talk/work with others in groups which made me more comfortable with everyone. He has students use and take notes on his own workbook he created, its really useful to study it for his exam (which is so easy of u study).

Terry is a seasoned pro. He created a simple SG packet, it's $7 @ bookstore in lieu of the $150+ required material. He gives great tips to help you relax. Classinspirational and bonding. Give a few hours to speeches/outlines and he will give A, even if delivery is imperfect. He helps w/outline, if needed. Exams1 hour study; curve. EC options.

I was very hesitant to take this class because I absolutely HATED public speaking. However, Terry encouraged everyone to get acquainted with each other, which built a comfort level. He was not a harsh grader as long as you followed his guidelines. I've met a really great group of people and I would gladly take this class again.

Prof. Kohlenburg was a great communications professor! He seems to truly care about his students and gives great feedback. He encourages his students to make the classroom setting comfortable, which is especially important for a communications course! He also doesn't require a textbook, which is really nice.

Terry is the most charismatic professor I've ever had. In a class where you will be doing a lot of "public" speaking, it is important to feel as comfortable as possible, and Terry basically turned our class into a family. He is very clear on speech criteria, and gives opportunities for extra credit. Very minimal studying required to pass the tests.

Honestly, Terry is one of the best professors I have ever had. He really cares about his students and made the classroom very interconnected in a way I have never seen. We had three speeches throughout the five week course I took. He does expect improvement on the presentation of speeches, but don't worry he is very open to helping you out.

Terry is such an amazing professor. This class actually made me change my major to communications. You really get to know your classmates throughout the course. The first speech was nerve racking but once you get used to it the class is quite easy going. He also follows his syllabus extremely well and if anything changes he lets you know.

He is amazing professor. He care, patients and will to help. I was thinking of dropping because I hate public speaking but I am glad I didnt. I would take him again and 100% recommended.. 3 exams 50points each and 3 speeches.. 2 small short in class speech to help you ready for actual speech.. its amazing and not a lot to study for..

Terry is amazing! He made giving speeches in front of the class easy and comfortable. Over the short period of time, the class as a whole got to know each other very well. He just makes it feel natural. Both when speaking to the class and when giving speeches. Thanks to him, I learned new speech delivery techniques that will last a lifetime.

Terry is one of the most down to earth professors in existence. His winter intercession class is 3 tests (50 points each, mult. choice and T/F) and 3 speeches (informational, persuasive, and powerpoint; 100 points each). The speech outlines are worth extra credit on your speeches. Gives you a packet to fill in the blanks during his lectures.

I hv to say he is one of the best teacher here in Mesa! I never thought I would love to make a speech until I finished his class! He made me so confident, all my 3 speeches got an A with Excellent!

Taking Professor Terry for speech is the best thing you can do for your educational career and public speaking in general.

Terry is truly a gem! He truly cares about his students succeeding as long as you put in the effort with him. He has great lectures and the required text is available in the student store for less than 10$. If i could take this course again I would in a heartbeat!

Hi guys, if you want a good class please take it with Terry. If you're not-motivated and you're gonna decide be a distraction, don't take him. It's not hard to please him in fact if you just put in the effort, you're gonna succeed in his class. He actually genuinely cares about his students, not that hard, but not everything is gonna be easy.

This professor is amazing! I took a 4 weeks class which was 4 Fridays 5-830 pm and 4 Saturdays 8:30 am-4:pm. First I thought it was going to be rough because the late time. However, Terry is full of energy and makes time fly. His teaching technique is very unique because at the end of the class you will appreciate and acknowledge everyone.

If youre looking for an easy A dont take this class, if youre looking to actually improve your skills at public speaking and get clear information on the requirements to pass then this is just right for you. Although Terry is very set in his ways theres a reason. He knows what he needs from his students and is always available/happy to help.

Took class as a one month course. Accelerated & would have gotten an A if I was better prepared. Grading criteria is not an easy A, must work for it but not too difficult. Funny, caring, and engaging. Time consuming to take in one month, but very doable and was worth it. Has a potluck at the last class. Uses written pamphlet, no textbook.

He's a wonderful professor and a very easy grader. He gives really good feedback and you can tell that he actually cares about the grade you receive in the class. He explains everything really well and overall just makes it a really fun class to take. I like him a lot, definitely take him.

Professor Kohlenberg was awesome. I took the 4 week class, there were 4 speeches and 3 easy quizes to do. As long as you follow his powerpoints, take feedback, and improve in every speech, then you'll definitely get an A. He answers emails quickly, and gives great feedback. I would totally take him again.

Mr. Terry is great! He made online class very easy for everyone and understandable. The online materials he gave us are very organize, and easy to undestand. I took the 4 weeks class this FALL. I would definitely pick Mr. Terry again as my professor.

Best professor ever! Took the 4 week class online. Very clear feedback and he really wants to help students. 3 quizzes, 4 speeches you film yourself and post to canvas. Crystal clear grading criteria and due dates. Follow all directions you will get an A.

Professor Kohlenberg was asweome. His assignments were clear, his feedback was helpful. You do need to practice to get a good grade on your speehes. I would definately take him if you want a good comm class.

Just took notes and filmed different kinds of speeches, responded to other people's speeches. Very easy to pace yourself and spread out work. Was very on top of grades and gave broken-down feedback that went in line with the speech rubric. V cool dude.

There are four speeches and a couple of smaller quizzes that cover your grade. Everything was quite manageable and the due dates were clear. If you follow the grading criteria you will pass the assignment, simple as that.

honestly the most fun I ever had in a class on top of it being a Friday and saturday class , our class of 14 people felt wholesome and the professor would bring in donuts every Saturday morning , 10/10 would take him again you will do good in the class if you go off the slides

Took a shortened online version, super easy and clear instructions. Only had like 4 or 5 speeches that were only a couple minutes long to be posted to a discussion. He gives good feedback too! Even though it was online I still struggled at first with my speech (I am terrified of public speaking) but I could see my own improvement each time!

Professor Kohlenberg's COM103 class is well-organized, with clear expectations. The speeches can be challenging, but using resources like Unstuck ai and practicing diligently can help. Overall, an engaging class with a supportive professor.
