the best teacher i've ever had. every class is entertaining and he really makes the subject clear and understandable. While he is a tough grader, he makes sure you know the subject and figure out why you may not have gotten the best grade. AMAZING lectures! so great.
Most definitely one of my favorite (and one of the best) professors I've had. Lots of reading (though he listened to students and cut down on it), lots of notes. Definitely keeps things interesting though and makes material very easy to understand. I'd take his course again in a heartbeat :)
lectures all day every day! you have to read a lot. hard grader. pop quizzes. not hot, people are confused.
There are a lot of lectures, but he's good at keeping it entertaining. He also incorporates activities and movies. Go to class, because he takes attendance for quiz grades on random days. He responds quickly to emails and is very clear on his expectations. He listens to students on what they want from the class. I would definitely recommend him.
I wasn't sure if I liked his sarcasm at first, but he turned out to be a funny guy. Makes very difficult topics easy to understand. His assignments are pretty easy and you have choices; he's also a fair grader. The textbook readings aren't bad and he has cut down. The lectures are interesting but you have to take notes. I recommend him!
Very fun class! I dreaded that I was forced into this class to meet credit requirements, and it ended up being my favorite. He makes hard and sometimes boring topics interesting and easy to understand. Make sure you go to class though or you won't understand a lot of what's going on.
Great teacher!
Great Professor! There were a lot of lectures, but they ended up being the best part of the class. Exams are easy if you show up for class and take notes. The readings aren't bad but you get most of the information from him in lectures. Highly recommended!
He is the BEST professor I've ever had. The class can be difficult at times but he is very clear and helpful. Dr. Lilley is so passionate about what he teaches and his lectures are always fun and interesting. I took this class for a Gen. Ed. requirement and am now changing my minor to Women's Studies. Highly recommend!
Best professor I have ever had. His passion for the topic makes class really interesting and relevant. I learned so much from his class. I think everyone should take the class just to experience him as a teacher and person.
excellent lecturer
Most inspiring class I have ever taken. I dreaded taking this Gen-Ed but by the end of the semester, I looked forward to going. He is the greatest professor anyone could have. He not only engages you, but also changes you in the best of ways. TAKE HIM!!! there is a lot of reading but so worth the class
Good class! Don't regret taking it. Papers are graded a little harsh and the teacher is very liberal however he does a good job at keeping the course as objective as possible.
He's easily the best professor I've ever had. Not just in college, but throughout all my schooling. Yeah, you're expected to read a lot, but all the reading is material you can actually apply to your everyday life. I would 100% recommend any class of his.
TAKE HIM! he is hands down, the best professor I have ever had. He has unbelievable lectures about the material and makes you think about the way men and women are treated in society without being pushy in any sense. Little points in his classes which results in heavier tests but again, Take him!!
I was looking forward to this class and Dr. Lilley made it worth while. He presented information in an engaging way. He also utilized videos to capture the message. Great professor! Great class! I would recommend him in a heartbeat.
Dr. Lilley is hands down the best professor I have had to date. I left every lecture inspired to be better. His exams are a little difficult, but his class is worth taking.
Excellent professor!! Loved this class! Learned a lot!
Dr. Lilley is an excellent professor. Both of the classed I had were well designed and well executed. He is a very intelligent, and he is very passionate about what he teaches. He takes seemingly uninteresting topics and makes them interesting and informative. If you take a WGS course, take it with him. You won't be disappointed.
Wonderful professor! Only grades are midterm, group project, 1-3 basic papers, and final. Tough with point distribution and tough grader on the two exams. Just do your studying and you'll do fine. Dr. Lilley is very passionate and this class is super inspirational. Take it!
Professor Lilley is very friendly and engaging during lecture. He is easy to listen to and is clearly interested in the subject he teaches. However, he is way too strict in grading a 100 level class. There is no reason for such harsh grading when this is the first time most students have taken a class with this subject.
Best professor I have had! Never thought this topic could be interesting but Dr. Lilley is so passionate about what he does and teaches, you'll never be bored. Grading is a little harsh and there are a few too many readings but it's well worth it. TAKE HIM!!
This is the thing, the man is intelligent, a phenomenal lecturer, but his course is set up all wrong. He makes his course too challenging when it should really be about opening your eyes to women studies. For an introduction class to a field like women studies, he shouldn't demand as much as he does from students. I put way too much effort for a C.
WGS can be a touchy subject but Dr. Lilley's lectures are respectful, informative, and effective. He explains things really well and can respectfully joke about sensitive subjects. He creates a very welcoming environment. He never forces beliefs on you but leads you to the conclusions. His tests are very hard and detailed! Make sure you read!
He is awesome. Very passionate and informative. He knows how to draw you into the topic. If everyone could hear his lectures, the world would be a better place. You still need to read!
SOO happy i took this class with him! i wasn't exactly interested in gender studies but Dr. Lilley made it very interesting. He was a really cool guy who had cool stories. Some reading from the book but he always talked about it in class. You have 10 quizzes but he pretty much just gives you credit from writing your name. TAKE HIM
Dr. Lilley gave the best lectures that I have ever been attended. He uses his personal stories to make the material more personal and relatable. I would recommend taking his class if you are able to dedicate time to studying. The only downside is that his tests are much harder then they need to be.
Dr. Lilley was the best professor I have ever had! His lectures are AMAZING! He is so inspirational. He makes things relatable, and is really funny! I personally did not find him a tough grader. I got 100% on the 3 short papers, plus he gave us 100% on 810 of the pop quizzes. Tests were a bit tricky, so go to class, lots of info is given!
I absolutely adore Dr. Lilley. He is inspirational and makes uncomfortable, triggering, andor difficult topics understandable and easy to discuss. I have had him for multiple WGS classes & always have been satisfied & had great experiences. He is an engaging and talented lecturerprofessor. I cannot say enough good things about him. TAKE HIS CLASS
Assignments are not tough, tests are straightforward, and he is extremely attractive. The world would be a better place if everyone took this class. Teaches through examples during class which really opens your eyes and gives you a new perspective.
awesome professor. Cares about what he lectures. Incredibly woke. Inspirational
Terry Lilley started out with really amazing and inspiring lectures, but after first month they got to be more traditional and average. Beware of grading scale, watch points throughout semester because they are not traditional cutoffs. Showing up to class is beneficial because he often has very easy quizzes that can add up.
A legend. WGS 308 was the best class I've ever taken. Opened me to looking at thing differently
WOULD RECOMMEND. Amazing professor. He really knows what he's talking about. He's pretty funny and tries to make uncomfortable topics easy to talk about. I honestly wouldn't take this class if I couldn't have him teach it! Makes thing really interesting and honestly isn't too hard of a class to get a good grade in! TAKE DR. LILLEY FOR WGS100
Dr. Lilley is a super nice guy, you can tell that he is very passionate about the subject matter. The class can be VERY dry, however, and he often repeats the same things but in different format. It was an easy A, but hearing the same thing over and over got tiring real fast.
Didn't do so well in the class due to failing the exams (weren't hard, just not good at test taking) but still ended up with a C. He makes sure that not a single project or test will kill your grade which is nice. Be ready to read though since some of the questions on the exams are from the book and make sure to take thorough notes while in class.
Lilley is a very knowledgeable guy and a great lecturer. I felt like a learned a lot from him, which is because he's passionate about what he teaches & drills information into your head. Unfortunately, he struggled to communicate expectations for the first exam & graded incredibly hard. He has high expectations of his students.
Easily the best professor I've had. I had him for a WGS class which I was not at all looking forward to taking but he made it so much fun and it was the only class I actually looked forward to going to. He makes material easy to understand and makes sure the tests/quizzes are not out to trick you.
Dr. Lilley is amazing. I went into his class being pretty skeptical about a lot of the topics, but he is really very knowledgable and great at explaining the content. I would recommend him to anyone. As long as your in class, the exams and two papers will be a breeze.
Dr. Lilley is incredible. Do whatever you can to get in one of his classes. I look forward to his lectures every week because they're so interesting and engaging, it doesn't even feel like you're learning. He wants you to succeed, so he doesn't try to trick you on the exam or let one bad exam affect your grade. Show up, listen, and you'll be fine!
Phenomenal. Best professor I have had and would definitely take again. His lectures are extremely interesting and he genuinely cares about his students. There were only two exams and a project that made up the majority of the grade but if you do the readings, the exams are a breeze. Also has a great sense of humor.
Class was made up of 300 points... the final exam was worth 150 points making it worth 50%. He made the class A LOT harder than he needed it to be. Majority of the class received a C as a final grade, a bit ridiculous.
I have taken him before and haven't done well in his classes but what I love about him is not only is he passionate about what he teaches and also has a good sense of humor but what I appreciate most is he is challenging and isn't just going to hand you an A. Despite not doing great in the class this was my favorite class I've taken so far.
This is a very easy and enjoyable gen ed. If you show up to class and pay attention it is easy to get an A. The tests are all multiple choice and fairly easy. I would highly recommend this class.
Dr. Lilley is easily one of the best professors on campus. He honestly teaches you what you need to know, and how to reiterate that information. His grading scales do get to be a little ridiculous in terms of what it takes to get an A. Other than that, do your readings, engage with class discussion, and you will be good to go!
By far the easiest lecturer to listen to. I actually enjoy going to class.
Professor Lilley is an amazing lecturer. He's passionate about what he teaches and makes classes enjoyable to attend. He's funny and easy going and makes it easy to talk about some touchy topics in todays society. I'm liked his class so much that I registered to take another with him. TAKE DR. LILLEY you won't regret it.
He is very interesting to listen to and his lectures were enjoyable. Cancels class a lot. You have to write a few papers but they are pretty easy. Exams aren't too bad either.
I felt like Dr. Lilley was too preachy. I have taken another minority culture class with another professor and I felt like they really educated me and I never felt bad about being uneducated, but this class felt really preachy and made me feel bad about being uneducated. He says the same thing 20 times, and it doesnt seem for emphasis, just boring
don't take him. You could do so well in the class and get a B on a final and still not get an A. the final is worth 33% of your overall grade and is so much harder than previous exams. he's nice and he's funny but if you're looking for an easy A, this isn't it.
Dr. Lilley is a nice guy and is very well versed in his subject. However, he claims that he structured his course so that "one bad day won't sink you". I have found this to be untrue. The midterm and final are worth two thirds of your grade so you better do well. I wouldn't take this course if you know that exams are a weak point for you.
Dr. Lilley is an amazing lecturer. I've taken gen eds and upper levels with him and enjoyed both. You will have to work hard in his classes; he has high expectations, but you will learn loads and rethink your perspective on life. Exams are application essay questions which can be difficult but as long as you study and come to class you'll be fine.
Dr. Lilley is very passionate about his courses and it shows in his lectures. If you attend class and do the readings, the exams are very easy. He also adds in a lot of freebie points to help you do well with easy short assignments.
Hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. Always prepared for lecture and is inspirational to listen to. Definitely recommend taking any class with him.
He seems nice. However, I was bothered that he often doesnt present evidence behind many of his claims. He would make radical claims and say literally we know this because of reality. Also the class was great for sleeping. Easy pass (took as a gen ed) but boring as hell. Very preachy.
He's a really nice guy and his lectures are interesting and funny. He is a bit of a tough grader and though he says he's got plenty of As to give out, it's pretty hard to get one in his class. He doesn't get mad if you come in late, but he's not great with giving students a break when they have a bad day in class or struggle with an assignment.
Terry is a very passionate guy. There is two exams (the final is cumulative) and you have to write one research paper. The only complaint I would have is that the quizzes are usual only 4 or 5 questions so if you get one question wrong it effects your grade a lot but if you show up to class he basically gives you all of the answers.
Terry was an awful professor makes this class way harder than needed for what's supposed to an easy gen ed. Mindnumblingly boring, basically lulls you to sleep, and is extremely disorganized. Quizzes are based on class content and not very much to grade you on. Would not recommend you aren't interested in the topic and just want the credits
I highly recommend reading the textbook. It's only about 1 chapter every week or two. There are 10 quizzes, super easy. Some online some in person. His lectures are AMAZING. Even if you're not interested in the topic, you will be surprised by how good of a public speaker he is. 1 midterm (25 q's) and final (50 q's) in person.
I have mixed feelings about Dr. Lilley. His classes are interesting, but of the 3 I've had with him, I felt that he was conditioning us to write for him, not for anyone or anything else. In classes where I think discussion is essential, he talks for the entire time and doesn't open it up. You'll learn a lot, but you'll work for it.
For a 100 level class, Terry made this much more difficult than it needed to be. He is beyond boring in lectures and cares more about you learning something than getting a good grade, if you're up for that.
He doesnt tell us his grading rubric until after we turn in the assignment. The class is only out of around 200 points so basically a midterm, final, and a paper, so if you do badly on one, prepare to get like a B in the class. Doesnt tell you what he will grade on. Honestly run away, hes awful
Terry Lilley was a really cool guy and knows what he's talking about but he is really long-winded. I feel like sometimes he was trying to sound really smart and it was ultimately just really confusing for the students. He had pop quizzes that were NOT easy. Also had a seven-page single-spaced paper due which he graded very harshly. NOT an easy A.
Terry lilley has no organizational skills especially for a professor. Teaches but does not teach stuff on exam. Makes time go slower than you thought it could
Professor Lilley is a very knowledgable man, with that being said though, he isn't a good teacher. He expects a lot for a gen ed class and says one bad day won't kill your grade, but you are graded off of very little, so it does. It is crucial to really read the book and listen/take notes in lecture in order to succeed. Don't take if possible.
While I enjoyed the topics covered in this course, I found that he expects a lot out of this students for a 100 level gen-ed class. Even though he claims "I won't a bad day sink you", I haven't found this the case. Some concepts on the exams weren't covered in class. Graded on the mid-term, final, a (very long) paper, and occasional pop quizzes.
Professor Lilley isn't a good teacher. He knows the content, but then expects you to know things that he doesn't even cover in class. It is critical that you read the textbook and come to class(even though attendance isn't taken) because if you don't, you will not pass. Graded by 10 difficult quizzes(some in class), midterm, final and a long paper.
There are only two tests the whole year so if you fail one that's 33% of your grade lost and the quizzes are 3-5 questions so if you get 2 wrong already at 60% and for the research paper there are only four possible grades a 100, 86,72, or 58 which is the absolute stupidest thing I've ever heard of oh and that's 16% of your grade also lost.
Professor Lilley is a good guy but doesn't understand that this is a class that people have to take as a gen ed and does't seem to realize that people have other real classes they have to study for. Get a D on your midterm, you will not be able to even get a B unless you work for every last point. Highly recommend you dont take.
While I love Dr. Lilleys attitude his class is over the top hard for a 100 level class. Very lecture-heavy class. TAKE NOTES! If you skip class make sure to let him know and try to get notes. Graded on little content so make every point count. He will bend over backwards for though though if youre having trouble in his class.
Professor Lilley was one of the best professors I have had. While his classes are lecture heavy and he grades on few things (two exams and a paper), his lectures are amazing and he really cares about his students success.
loses papers, essays, syllabus rarely matches to whats done in class.
Honestly a real gem. He truly cares for his students and his grading system, defined by him, is designed so students don't fail. Lectures are always fun but make sure to attend lectures because he doesn't post notes online - so the only way you get notes is by attending class or getting them from another student. Make sure to read the textbook, too
This class is a buildup to one final paper that is super long and intense. You also have to present this final paper for the class. It was a fun class and I got a lot out of it but you really have to pay attention and do the readings. Terry is super fun and understands that what he is teaching is hard stuff. Go to office hours if you're stuck
Dr. Lilley is a fantastic professor; he truly does care about his students, and he wants you to succeed; so much so that he will essentially hand out free points, just for showing up to class. While attendance isn't mandatory, you do need to attend the lessons to understand the material. Dr. Lilley is also an amazing person who just wants to help!
He is a good professor and cares so so much about his students. Lectures can get long, and make sure to take your own notes, nothing is posted or recorded. Going to class is a MUST, the midterm will really test if you went to class and was pretty tough. There are lots of easy points for in-class participation things and short quizzes. I recommend.
I took this course last fall (2020) with Dr. Lilley and I really enjoyed it. If you take classes with Lilley you will probably have to write quite a bit, but he gives good feedback and is clear about what he's grading you on. He's great! I would recommend taking a course offered by him.
Professor Lilley is such a great professor. He truly cares about his students and wants them to do well and succeed. You can hear the passion in his voice during his lectures, and he is so good at conveying information. Make sure you attend lecture and take good notes! One of the best professors easily.
Professor Lilley is amazing. This was tough class but he made it enjoyable and truly cares about your success. 4 papers (some in class he helps with) and lots of reading but the content is interesting. He is so willing to help students understand. Papers are pretty much participation and the there is final and midterm that he prepares you for.
Professor Lilley is great! You can tell he really cares about the information he teaches. He is always willing to help and answer questions. Attendance isn't mandatory but it will really be helpful because some of the test questions are specific to the material we talk about in class that isn't in the textbook.
Lilley is a great professor for WGS. The class itself is very easy, but Lilley makes it even easier by being a great person. He is funny and really cares about mental health. He often offers extensions and lets the class out early. I did not care for the class, but Lilley made it interesting to learn about. Definitely recommend.
Dr. Terry Lilley is my favorite professor so far. His lectures may be more intense, but you learn so much and can see the ideas in the real world. He is very cultured and actually cares for and wants the best for his students. Lots of reading of the textbook but overall I would take this course again.
Dr. Lilley is really a great professor and is passionate about what he teaches. This course is really textbook heavy and lecture heavy. The material he covers is interesting and he makes really good connections to help you understand things better. Definitely study for the exams!
Professor Lilley is a wonderful professor. Great guy and can tell he cares for his students, however, there are few points in the grade book other than the midterm and final. Attending class will help, but exams are very difficult and are most of the points in the class. Hard to study for and hard to get grade up after doing poorly.
Professor Lilley is a great professor. He is very passionate about this class and the information. You have to read the book and go to class. Its not just common sense like some may think. The midterm and final were tricky. He will answer questions if you ask though.
He is an amazing guy, very passionate in what he teaches and makes classes fun. I would say that this class requires quite a bit more effort than other lvl 100 classes. Exams are kinda hard and quizzes can be tricky. He is very helpful though and he truly cares about his students.
The professor was really nice and gave us a good amount of time off, but there was a reading every week and the midterm and final were unnecessarily difficult. The questions were worth a lot of points so it was easy to not to good on, so thank god he gave other assignments that were easy points.
All the assignments in this class are easy its just that his questions on quizzes and midterm/final were always worded weird and made it harder than it should've been. Overall class wasn't terrible, but I'm glad its done.
I absolutely loved having Prof. Lilley. He genuinely cares for his students and wants them to succeed not only in this class but also in others. He made having a general class that I didn't even want to take, to be one of my favorites. I definitely reccomend him as a professor. Weekly quizzes online (can use notes), small assignments, 2 tests.
Dr. Lilley made this one of the most fun classes I've ever had. He is super caring towards his students and wants everyone to succeed in and out of the classroom. You do have to pay attention in class and read the book closely to succeed, but he is always willing to help!
Dr. Lilley was a great professor. He structures his class in a less traditional way but I feel his way is better. He does lecture but not a lot. He has you collaborate often and learn some things on your own. tests are weighted kind of high but he is very clear on what will be on them. If you go to class and try you will do well.
Dr. Lilley is a good professor and a great lecturer. It's easy to get participation points in the class from easy prep assignments, but they don't adequately prepare you for the difficulty of the exam. For a 100 level class, the exams are surprisingly difficult but it's still fairly easy to get an A. He cares for his students though.
Great professor, but hard class. If you want to take Sex/Work, there's a lot of readings. Some of the readings are also hard and difficult to read. I recommend that you take a into WGS class before taking this class. Took this class because it was the only one open, and I struggled to understand some of the material. Overall, great professor!
I took RGS 100 & actually found it interesting and insightful because it was taught by Dr. Lilley. So many students complain about their RGS classes being boring, but prof. Lilley was the least boring professor I've had. Lots of reading, but the lectures make the readings worth it. He's clearly very knowledgeable & intelligent on the subject taught
RGS100. He makes the class engaging and really wants students to succeed. Class gets out early frequently, and he is constantly tweaking his course outline to what works best for students to succeed. His tests are multiple-choice, but the questions can be worded somewhat confusingly. Overall I hope I have an opportunity to take Lilley again!
So amazing and kind. Engaging lectures and so prepared for each class. Never missed a beat and knew exactly how to set us up to succeed. So clear in his expectations and so many ways to get things right. Multiple choice things and he was always ready to answer questions. Taking his upper-level class next semester and it's not for my major or gen ed
I deaded RGS but Terry Glenn Lilley Jr is the best option to take. He is super caring and really understands students. Before every class there are readings due but do them and you will be fine.
I took Justice and Film with Dr. Lilley. It was a really good class and the movies were interesting to watch. We had four short essays about the movies and a few discussion posts. The only thing is that the midterm was pretty hard. He is a really good professor and an easy grader. I would recommend taking this class with him if you can.
I took Justice and Film with him and I wish I could take another class with him. He cares about his students and he cares about the films we watched and about RGS, and it shows. However, the midterm and final were very difficult, even with him curving the final, and with him trying to clarify questions as we took it.
He is such a good professor who wants his students to succeed. He is great at helping you study for exams and knowing what to expect. Most days, you have a chapter reading on Canvas that you need to have done before class. As long as you do those readings, it will be an easy A. It also teaches you about some great topics everyone should know.
He is such a great professor, and I absolutely recommend taking one of his classes. All of the lectures are super engaging, and the material is laid out in a way that actually makes sense, and all connects together. The expectations are very clear, and as long as you keep up with the readings, you should have no problem with the class.
He is a really great professor, he makes lectures easy to sit in and listen to.
If you're not an RGS major, and you're taking it for the gen ed, I wouldn't take him. There's a lot of readings required, and the tests are in person, and pretty difficult. You're not going to be able to coast through this class and get an A. But he's an engaging teacher who makes class interesting, and he's super caring towards his students.
I took RGS100 with him and he was a good teacher. He explained concepts well and his lectures were relatively engaging. He assigned a lot of readings but you could get away without reading them. I didn't talk to him much but he seemed very kind and helpful, always encouraged us to ask questions.
I took RGS 100 with Dr. Lilley and I thought it was a great class. He cares a lot about his students and encourages you to ask questions. The class itself is pretty easy as long as you do the readings and go to lectures. Exams are 25 multiple choice questions, not too much other work outside of class besides readings. Take Dr. Lilley if you can.
Professor Lilley makes this 100-level class engaging despite the heavy workload. Lectures are interactive, and while exams are tricky, weekly assignments provide easy points. Unstuck ai proved super helpful for exam prep. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
He truly cares about his students and makes class interesting. He assigns a lot of readings, but they are easy to follow. Would 100% take him again!!
Dr. Lilley was an amazing professor! There was a lot of discussion required, which got a little boring, but his lectures are fantastic. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. If you do the readings and take notes, the class is an easy A.
Dr. Lilley is an amazing professor and he wants all of his students to succeed. If there is any professor you can choose from for RGS choose him, he goes over the readings very well and makes more of a boring class very engaging. He also gives chances to earn points back and goes over what went wrong on exams that can be fixed for the next time.
Professor Lilley is awesome. You can tell he wants nothing but success for his students. Sometimes he gives out readings and activities to do outside of class, but it's all to understand the content better. He is so helpful and such a great guy. If you take RGS I highly recommend him!!
Highly Recommend! Dr. Lilley is a phenomenal professor. He does a great job at explaining the material and letting us know what we need. Be prepared to read a lot but it helps for tests. He make this class very interesting and truly cares about what he is teaching. Great class.
He is a very passionate professor. His class is fairly easy if you do the assigned readings. A lot of exam questions are given in practice quizzes. Its a very moving class, and the content is very engaging.
I absolutely loved Dr.Lilley's class. He is very interesting to listen to and has given the best lectures I have ever heard. You can tell that he really cares about what he does and his passion is very refreshing. He explains things very well and he does his best to make sure students actually understand the material and learn.
Take him for RGS. He's literally the best prof you could ever have. His lectures are always so interesting and engaging. Just make sure you do your readings, and do your best to not miss class because if you miss a lecture, you're missing content that WILL be on quizzes or tests. But overall, he's so chill and nice and his lectures are awesome!
