Dr. MacMullan is an excellent prof, one of the best I've ever had. I went into his class hating philosophy and came out liking it. He realizes that it's an intro class and has few Philosophy majors, so doesn't make topics really in-depth and difficult.

he is a great teacher. his exams are straight forward. he gives you a study guide with terms and essay questions. i got a perfect score on both exams. take him. he'll definently be one of your favorite teachers and he makes philosophy fun & easy to learn

Terry is definitely a prof you should try to get for whatever class you take. He's a great guy in general and knows his stuff when teaching. His class was one of the few that I actually looked forward to going to. Ask him for his beavis impression =)

Consider yourself EXTREMELY lucky if you get a professor like Terry in your college career. This guy is not only incredibly versed in....well...everything, he also one of the most personable instructors I have ever met. One in a million.

Honors was one of my favorite classes last quarter and Terry is one of my favorite professors. I would recommend this class to anyone that isn't afraid of a little hard work.

Terry inspired me to minor in philosophy. He's a fantastic prof- enthusiastic, friendly, and very smart (not just "fake smart" like he says). Killer Irish accent, awesome long hair, and a quick wit. Take a class from him- you'll be glad!

Terry is phenomenal! he's always saying funny stuff and is very enthusiastic in what he teaches. tests are'n that easy, but the study guide gives you a pretty good idea of what will be on the test. if you need a philosophy class, take it from Terry. you won't reget it!

Wonderful teacher! Philosophy can be dry, but Terry made it fun, memorable and relevent. Keep up on the reading, show up to class every day (there can be pop quizzes), and study for the tests. If you do the work, you'll do fine. Terry is a must-have prof!

Was one of my favorite teachers. He is extremely knowledgable and you can tell that he really loves what he does. He will do pretty much anything for his students and takes pride in making sure they are prepared. Highly recommended.

This class was very interesting. It very well cuold have been a dull class, but Terry really livened it up. It is an easy A if you go to class (like every other class in the world).

He's awesome!

Terry is one of the most amazing professors. I hate history and somehow he made it fun. I'm not if it was because of his endless Simpsons and Star Wars connections, or just because he really knows how to teach - he is great. I would take him again and again if I could. I am sad to see the class end.

I absolutely adored Terry! It was obvious from the first day that he is extremely caring for his students and passionate about what he does. I would take another class of his in a heartbeat! And aside from all of that...I feel like I took a lot of really valuable information out of his class.

Terry was a fantastic professor. His lectures never got tedious or boring (except for maybe 20 minutes of one day) and he kept the class interesting by discussing current events and relating them to course work, something most teachers fail badly at. I wish I had more time to take more of his classes, you're the best Terry!

Terry is the most amazing professor you could ever hope to have. He has a genuine interest in all of his students, and his goal is not only to teach you the material, but to really help you understand it. Plenty of reading, which you always need to be prepared to talk about. Besides just being a prof, he's one of the nicest people I know.

The best teacher I have had here at eastern. You can tell he truly cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. He gives plenty of extra credit, but his tests/quizes are very fair, so you shouldn't even need it. If you want a really interesting and enlightful class, take this one.

Terry has an awesome teaching style. A great professor and philosopher.

Very educated, charismatic, and caring but can kind of go overkill on his niceness. Likes to read with dramatic enunciation but tends to let his lecture voice volume alternate like a sine wave, making it hard to hear him at times. He is very considerate of your worldview and presents a lot of good material. Also a fair grader and very genuine.

T-Mac is one of the most amazing teachers EVER. he singlehandedly made me want to be a philosophy minor. i have had him for 2 classes so far and he rocked my world in both of them. he respects your world views but still challenges your thought process on everything. hes very funny too and never misses an opportunity to take a fun jab at a student.

Terry was one of the best teachers i have ever had. His teaching methods are some of the best out there. He really knows how to teach a class by relating the material to events and people that we would understand. He is extremely helpful and easy to talk to. He really cares about his students and tries not to overwhelm them. Take his class.

Took this Fall 08 online & got a 3.8. It was pretty easy & interesting. Just try to make the deadlines. The readings werent too bad either. Midterm & final were fine too, I realized you could take it multiple times. Didn't deal w/him face to face, but he was very easy to talk to online.

Very worthwhile instructor. He has a samurai ettiquete about him and can seem intimidating, but he's a puppy dog. Tries consistently to encourage quiet students, grounds discussions in historical contexts, and is usually interesting. Passionate and nerdy.

I love him! So nice and funny. His tests are pretty easy. I took it in the summer (4 wk long class) and it was a lot of reading but I still got a 4.0 and I really didn't have to try hard at all. Take him for intro to philosophy!

Terry is awesome, funny, and really inspiring. He compares things like star wars and jersey shore and monty python to philosophy. His tests are pretty easy if you have at least been to class most days. There is reading about every other day and some pop quizzes, but they are easy. Definitely take Terry before you leave Eastern.

Terry is one of my favorite teachers. He knows what he's talking about, and you actually learn with him. His classes are interesting and he rarely has a dry lecture. His teaching style is interactive and encourages everyone to participate. You will not be sorry if you take his classes!

Terry is great. If you have any questions he makes sure by the end of class that all the questions have been answered. Everyday keep me on my toes because he would try to convince us that we should believe in this philosophy and he would challenge us to find the that philosopher flaws. overall, it was by far the most interesting class that I took.

Truly the most interesting class I have taken at eastern. Terry is a brilliant teacher who creates a wonderful learning environment and encourages students to participate in the discussion. The textbook we use is also excellent. I usually sell back my textbooks at the end of the quarter, but this one is so fascinating, I want to read it again.

One of the best teachers at eastern. Great method of teaching and is very outgoing. He understands philosophy can be frustrating and will always try to make the material as clear as possible. A lot of reading and sometimes it can be hard to get through but explains all reading material in class.

He kept class entertaining and interesting even though some of the ancient philosophers are tough to understand. He also understands and many of us take the class to fulfill a gen ed requirement. He does try to relate it, movies like to star wars or current tv shows like jeresy shores. Overall a really great professor and very easy to talk to

Professor MacMullan is the MOST AWESOME professor you will ever have. If I could take all my classes from him I would. His class required a lot of effort but I had a lot of fun and learned a lot in the process! Take any class from him if you can!

Hes a pretty interesting guy and tries really hard to keep his students interested even though the topics he teaches can be pretty dull. There is a lot of reading and he gives quizzes on them but his expectations are fair! He really cares about his students learning and education, he's easy to talk to, contact, and ask questions!

Really really liked this teacher! He loves what he is doing and really cares about students and their learning. I hope I can take another class with him. Some of the reading was boring and hard to get through, and he sometimes assigned a lot, but it was too be expected in an Honors class!

He was my favorite professor, made class interesting and each day was different. lecture notes were clear and concise. You knew exactly what he was talking about and no busy work, but great discussion. I would take another class from him even though it does not go towards my major.

Ive never liked philosophy, but Professor MacMullan made me interested in the subject! Makes the subject understandable, interesting, and managable. Keep up with the reading for pop quizzes, do the study guides and the class will be worth your while.

GREAT TEACHER!

Although this class was just a GECR, I found it to be quite interesting. You can tell that he is passionate about his job, and is always engaging in class discussion. Keep up with the reading and you'll ace the pop quizzes, don't be afraid to get involved in the discussion and state your opinions. If you take full notes you'll pass the tests.

Terry is the BEST! His classes are pretty heavy on the writing (not the easiest class for sure), but he does a fantastic job of explaining difficult concepts clearly, and he really creates a comfortable environment for class participation. I'm usually pretty shy about speaking up in class, but he gave me a lot of confidence. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

An incredible professor, who facilitated insane discussions in every session. We covered a lot of material very quickly, and he made what would have been a rough slog through lots of text enjoyable and exciting. You will do a lot of reading in his courses, but it will be worth the time and effort.

I've never seen a professor try so hard (and successfully) to reach out to all students in his class. Even the foreign students. His lectures are straightforwards and he does a great job of making confusing philosophy concepts easy to understand. One the the best professors I've ever had.

I have only had two teachers that have truly made a difference in my life. One of these was freshman year of high school and one was Terry. He is so incredibly intelligent and passionate. It's not an easy class and expect a lot of reading, but it is absolutely worth it. He cares about each and every one of his students, and it shows.

He keeps the class involved so that you don't get bored and fall asleep. He's just a really nice guy. I didn't feel like he expected too much of us. He even trusted us enough to give us a take-home final. Seriously an awesome teacher, would gladly have him as my teacher again.

Sometimes went into too much detail. Like, microscopic level detail. Would recomend though, only one paper, one presentation, and two tests were assigned the entire quarter. (+ several mini quizes)

this instructor was the first instructor I had going to eastern Washington university and if any of the other teachers teach the way he dose then you should have no problem. but he is one of the best teachers I ever had in my college career. He connects with each and every student he encounters, and leaves you with knowledge that's relevant, significant, and thought provoking. Though his long hair, beard, and spontaneous Irish & Scottish accents can be distracting (& at times, mesmerizing) you'll love his class!!

Terry is great, he is laid back but at the same time extremely passionate about what he is teaching. It made the longer class a lot more bearable. He is completely un-biased when it comes to his teachings (unless it is Star Wars). took this class Winter quarter, the best class of all for the year.

There is a lot of reading but the info in the book is valuable to understanding whats going on during the lectures. Prof. MacMullan is really good about making sure that each student follows along with each philosophy. Loved the class, found the schools of thought interesting and diverse.

Terry is great! He was the only reason that I found this required class interesting and not like a waste of time. You don't have to go to class but you will want to with his teaching. I would 100% recommend, tests are pretty easy too!

You will read in this class, and you will read a lot. His lectures are great for clarifying things and making a wide range of things very understandable. He is also hilarious and loves his subject. This class and teacher convinced me to take a philosophy minor.

Great online class. Very well organized, TONS of reading/lecture. Tests cover a huge amount of material, and you WILL need your book/notes. Lots of essays, but if you participate you will get a good grade. Lots of online discussion. Gives good feedback, and is easily reached. Seems to really care about student's success and getting info across.

If Philosophy is not your major, take a class with Dr. MacMullin as an elective. He is exactly the type of educator you want to learn from. High energy with a love of his craft.

He earns your trust in this tough class with the variety of topics we discuss. This class is down to earth, where you get to talk about "the real things." I highly recommend him as a professor because he cares about his students and pushes them to reach their goals. He is the best professor I've ever had.

He is the best prof I have ever had! The class is definitely reading heavy, but besides a few small quizzes, there are not any big tests. He respects everyone's ideas and allows for lots of discussion creating a very open atmosphere. He widens your perspective and forces you to think in different ways. Best class I've ever taken!!

Honestly the best professor I've had over the last three years of classes. Terry is a great man that cares about his class deeply. His passion for this study helped me as a learner to be more passionate and to put in more effort than I normally would. Attendance isnt mandatory, but attending class isnt hard because he makes the lectures so interesting. He genuinely tries to help you learn and constantly asks if everyone understands the content. Honestly I only used the book to study before tests and I finished with a 92%. Definitely the best professor Ive had at eastern and would recommend

Dr. MacMullan's (or as he had us call him, Terry) class was outstanding, a true feat of what a good collage professor can be. The class was both challenging but sophisticated and thought-provoking (HONS 101). This material could have been dry, boring and excruciating however, Terry made every effort to make it enjoyable. Class was super fun. Mostly just focused around readings and group discussion during class with a few light papers here and there. Even though the class was easy, it was very interesting and informative, mostly because terry is awesome at reaching the material. I feel like I learned a lot and had a great time in the process.

He's overall a great teacher, he provides great insight into everything he talks about and he is forgiving if you screw up whether it's forgetting your books for class or not making you feel bad when you give a wrong answer. I took philosophy and pop 214 culture with Terry MacMullen and the class was amazing. Its pretty much just philosophy of Star Wars. You do read a lot and have a lot of textbooks. But the class is fun and you watch every episode except for episode 1 which is the worst episode. You have to write at least 4 papers but hes is an easy grader. TAKE IT!

I had Terry ( tells students to call him by his first name) for my first online class. He is a very caring professor who understands we have other classes and provides a reasonable amount of homework (discussion posts and small papers). I loved his class and he taught philosophy in an interesting way that makes you think.

Terry is very caring for his students, and would go out of his way practically any time to make sure every individual is accommodated to their specific needs. MacMullan is an absolutely wonderful professor! Made the lectures worth going to, even on the worst of days. Great anecdotes to really tie into the lectures. Every class is a PowerPoint lecture but they aren't unbearable, they're actually quite enjoyable. Overall a great teacher!

Dr. MacMullen deserves the praise that this website reflects. He is one of the few professors that has a genuine desire to see you succeed and will help you within reason. However, he is no push-over. Dr. MacMullen will challenge you to push the boundaries of your academic limit and his humor is as sharp as his wit. Take a class with him!

Terry is hands down the best professor I have taken a class with, and I have had a lot of 10/10 professors. He is passionate about the material, and his wit is sharp as heck. There were also discussion posts required - 4 per module with 6 modules, making 24 at least. The topics in philosophy were interesting and engaging!

Professor MacMullan is one of the best professors at Eastern Washington University and state-wide. Even during the Covid-19 pandemic he gives extremely entertaining lectures and manages to show that he cares for each and every student. He will make you love the material amd want to work hard in the class. Be prepared to read a good amount as well.

I absolutely loved Professor MacMullan he was super caring. Every morning he would check in on every one of us. He adapted well to the online platform. He adjusted the work load for our class because most of us said we were overwhelmed. Class is discussion based. He assigns quite a bit of reading but its manageable if you stay on top of it.

This professor uses interesting relatable content to enhance the experience of attempting to understand philosophical ideas that, to be honest would be dry and boring to consume without that content. The number of papers you have to write for this class is substantial, he does grade fairly and consistently, with clear expectations.

Terry is awesome! He has a heart for his students, and it's clear he wants you to succeed. His feedback is helpful and concise, and he encourages all sorts of discussion in class. All voices have equal value to him, and it makes it a non-stressful environment, but you still learn a lot from the course!

Terry is the best. Participation is important to him but he will never put pressure on anyone if they don't have anything to say. He clearly wants his students to succeed, and he cares about them as people, which is really nice for college kids. Whether you like philosophy or not, I can guarantee his classes will be a good experience for anyone.

MacMullan is a great professor. Only took this class for credit and he still made it very interesting and easy to learn about. Not a tough grader, just do the work and participate a little and you'll be good.

He's clearly passionate about the topic, and enjoys teaching the material. He doesn't punish students for not doing the readings, but the readings are valuable so I would recommend doing them. The points come from 2 essays, participation, and a cumulative exam (with notes allowed), so it's pretty forgiving, and he clearly wants students to succeed.

Class atmosphere is always so welcoming. Actually loves his job, and it shows. His lectures are NOT boring; he's a funny guy. The class is heavily weighted on a few assignments, and the reading is difficult. But if you need to take a 300-level course, take it with Terry; he makes it worth it. If you don't like philosophy? Don't worry, you will :)
