VERY HELPFUL PRO, easy going, listen to student's need
excellent prof. works well with students funny and cool guy serious about racism class makes you think recommend to anyone
Excellent Prof! Really knows his stuff...and puts forth the best interest of the students. I would highly recommend his courses!
Very one sided. Had A grades but got much lesser grade for course. He is a nice guy, but he does not take other sides, and his "listening" turns into his laughing or smirking at what you are saying.
professor is extremely helpful and down-to-earth...challenges students in constructive way and is funny which made lectures interesting. Definately learned a lot from him and recommend course to anyone
good prof.
He is one good prof ive had so far..He knows his stuff..Very helpful and keeps class interesting..gets donuts while watching videos sometimes..He is Cool..Good Job Terry.
limited approach. rolls out platitudes rather than challenging himself or the class.
Everyone knows who the last comment is from (sour grapes!!!). One of the best classes I ever had. Terry is funny, intelligent and passionate about what he does. If you don't care about racism don't take the class.
What an amazing prof! He's the best I've had so far. Very helpful and give hints on what's on the tests! Knows what he's teaching and doesn't BS.
Terry is amazing.. he teachs about the truth... Once ur done this class u should be able to battle oppression and if u cant then u didnt learn.. he gives u the tools all u need is the balls.
The BEST Carribean Professor ever! He is extremely helpful & he cares about his students =) Terry makes powerpoint notes to make you understand the readings, make sure you do all your readings before class because he likes it when everyone participates
Terry is a good guy and know what he is talking about. Some Bias ideas are interduced so just write what he wants to hear. I like his Rasta Hat it really suits him. I'd Recommend this to anyone who wants to take an easy elective.
He is not at all clear, and it's true what the person above said about him. If you are a girl, he stares you up and down. Not good.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! This guy really opened my eyes to a lot of things. He is passionate about what he's teaching and explains things very well. Reading and participating in class are very important to him. He is a great person who is very REAL with his students. It's all STRAIGHT GOODS with Terry!
This is one of the best classes I have taken in my entire time at Ryerson. Terry is passionate about the course material and challenges his students around this problematic issue of racism. Students who think he is unfair or treats people differently are in denial or probably failed the class.
Obviously the person below is NOT female.
Very Very good professor. Extremely knowlegdeable and enthusiastic about what he is teaching. Always willing to help. To do well in the course do your readings that are required.
BAAADMON. WICKKKED coarse, wicked teacher. Take it. He teaches good, marks good (even accepts**** late), and hes a fun teacher to have. Take every coarse he teaches. EZZZ
Enough of the alleged sexual harassment crap. Terry is an awesome professor and I'm sorry to say it but I think the girl who feels this way is probably bitter about something. Just drop the foolishness already, he is an amazing teacher and that's it. And I AM A FEMALE, a hot one too! :)
eeeeeeeez prof. One of the bttr profs I had. Just make sure you at least attempt to learn and u'll be fine.
This guy, really needs to give that whole racism issue a break. I am a centennial student and i definately did not like the guy .He has some serious issues about favouritism , watch out he doenst like you if u dont do your readings and puts u on the spot to humiliate you. This guy needs some help
he's alright as a teacher...just make sure you do your readings, our class got kicked out not once, but twice for not doing the readings
this guys' got some serious issues. and a huge chip on his sholder. how did he land this job?
Participation is key. Abscence will cause him to give tutorial Q's which he then grades based on grudges. Cool prof though. If only he would be base his grading on the actual material and not on favouritism.
Let me begin by saying I did fine in his class. He does apply favouritism. If you participate, regardless of the fact that you sound stupid, he will like you. He does pick on people, and humiliates them . I wouldn't suggest this course, but that's just me.
He is very uptight when it comes to doing readings and participation. He picks on students that makes you feel that you are in high school again and uncomfortable. He should not care about us coming to class, doing readings and participating because we pay the price. overall, he knows his stuff.
course is a guaranteed good grade .. however for the final time .. my name is not LADY AT THE BACK (quit playing favorites already .. its annoying)
He killed the course.
This proff is Amazing. If you do your readings and follow with the class you will do well. Terry is a great proff, he's one in a million! The ratings that are low are by those who did not do your work! Hes very passionate and will sparks interest in everyone for racism. Best of the proffs out there
best proff i ever had, very dedicated and hard-working!
"Prof" only has one f.
Perfect proff for the course!
Figures that someone who can't spell would have liked this prof
great prof! must take the course you will learn a lot from him
This guy is something. Besides the fact that he is biased and he favours people in class, he goes against what he teaches too. If you don't think like him, you're wrong and he will pick on you and humiliate you. He is very lazy, sometimes ignores questions. Don’t bother expressing your opinion unless you know he’ll agree to it. NOT RECOMMENDED
If you don't agree with his biased, partisan and **** opinion don't bother commenting because he will try to humiliate you with biased, partisan and **** facts. Therefore, if you don't have a self depricating view of your own race and minority groups in particular, do yourself, your GPA and your self respect a favour and choose another class.
He plays favourites to begin with. Also, he is very biased in his opinions. If you are a "YES" person, then this is the course for you, otherwise it's a waste of time and money. Personal opinions and experiences are not valued here unless you're agreeing with what he thinks. HORRIBLE PROF!!!
This course is a waste of my time. It teaches you nothing except a sugar coated version of the prof's repressed feeling of racism. It is going to be a waste of your time. AVOID THIS COURSE! And yes he has favouritism in the class. Hated this course.
This Guy sucks. He is **** himself and overally I hate him.

This guy is a total poser....he don't practice what he preaches.
He's an AWFUL teacher to say the least...at the beginning of the course, you'll feel that this prof is really nice but it ain't the case...hard to get more than B in his course...talks all the time abt racism and biases but he himself is bias...the course i thought was nice...if u r one of people he likes in class, then stay as u'll probably do goo
This was above all the worst class and worst prof I've ever had at any school! Wasted my time. Ironic how he teaches racism yet he is the most **** prof I've had. Unless you're Caribbean and/or his favourite student, count on getting below a "B" regardless of what you do!
i agree he's SO **** how does somebdy like that get hired?????
It's funny that everyone else thinks that he is ****. He's not. People just catch feelings based on racial guilt. He doesn't say anything biased, for the most part he is just stating facts. The world is not equal oppurtunity, he brings that fact to light. If you are willing to accept that the world is not perfect, then CRB501 is a great class.
Who hired this fool? People don't hate him because of racial guilt - they hate him because he's a flippin ignorant biased idiot. In his class, it's his way or the highway - he is never open to new ideas or different views and opinions. AVOID HIS CLASSES AT ALL COSTS! You're wasting your precious time, effort and money.
I noticed some stark contrast in people's views of Terry depending on their 'race'. THere are some serious differences of opinion depending on whose speaking: a racialized person or a member of the dominant group. My only criticism is that there were many times I felt my voice was overpowered by men in the class, and found that males could reiterat
last time i checked many of the brothers and sisters in the class thought the guy was a jerk too. favoritism big time.
It's very ironic why he's teaching this course. Before I took this course I saw the world in a positive light. Terry is a very negative, very arrogant and disrespectful indivitual; it's pretty sad someone like him(Ignorant) has to teach this interesting and influencing course.
Terry is an amazing teacher. Terry challenegs you to critically self reflect your own racial ideologies. Whats important in this course is not the mark you recieve, but the choices you make in life. Either your on the side to CHALLENEGE racism or your on the side to maintain its oppression!
a very lazy teacher who drags on the class longer than it needs to be.Racism is a very important topic, but Terry is also a very two-face individual. In class he allows everyone to participate freely. But once outside class I have overheard him say"i just wish we could have one class where everyone stays quiet so i can teach."Not my kind of teacher
Terry's helpful. The trick is getting beyond the face. I sometimes found it difficult to approach him, but once you've made that step he is unbelievably helpful! He doesn't like lazy students that don't do their readings or participate in class. So do some readings, and participate as much as u can...just don't talk rubbish- he doh like dat too!
I can't believe someone as incompetent as him teaches at Ryerson; I regret taking this course with him, it was a big mistake. Terry is absolutely ignorant, inexperienced about the topic he teaches and most importantly extremly unapproachable, arrogant, one-sided indivitual. I wasted my precious time and money. Terry was absolutely useless.
He is the most unfit person to teach this class. this is suppoed to be class to make you more intrested in recism, not make you regret ever taking the class. every moment of the class with him was a dread, the students made it useful. he never lectured, and missed more classes than the students.his phone is always ringing. do not take 501 w/ him.
Terry was a fantastic teacher and I'm truly shocked to see all the negativity here. Racism is real and he teaches with reality because he has experienced it. If you're not a visible minority, some of the stuff may be hard to take but the key is to read and participate sensibly, don't talk crap in class. Trust me, the other CRB studies profs- WORSE!
Terry was an amazing proff. If you do your readings and participate you will succeed in this class. Terry is great. He is a one of a kind proff that is always willing to help. He tells it like it is - doesnt sugar coat the reality of racism. Just try a little and youll do great.
Terry is the wickedest proff ever. Very cool, down to earth guy who can be your friend as well as your proff.
THIS CLASS IS A MUST FOR VISIBLE MINORITIES. The tests were a bit tricky, but overall this class opens your eyes to the rich history of Caribbean peoples. Even my T.A was great. If you show interest in the class and do the readings, he will be more than willing to help. Those who didnt show any effort, made it difficult for themselves.
Most chillin prof ever! Explains stuff well, and answers any questions you might have. Highly recommended, and looks a bit like snoop dogg too!
Good prof. Watch out for that final. Study the discourses. Read the text. Speak up in class. Don't raise your hand in that poll where he asks where you live, or he'll judge you for the rest of the term.
He sucks!!! no doubt he had the knowldge but lacks any skills as an educatur. he is egocentric, rude, and there is no questioning his opinions. he provides no assistance with the essay. but, if u are a minory+from carribean you will probably do well- if you are not u dont stand a chance. no matter how hard you work, he will bring u down.
He is the rudest person in the world. Participation is important but hello just because i'm not CRB doesn't mean you can call me white...jerk!
One of the best profesors I ever had in Ryerson. He had passion in teaching and does listen to his students who were willing to learn, read the book and open-minded. Tests and essays were very fair! Well, obviously for those who perceived this class as a bird class especially Terry's and didn't show any initiative, they were in alot of trouble!
Didn't get back any of the assignments or any grades and received a C- in the class. If he doesn't know you by name (as one of his favourites), don't expect a good grade even if you go to class, read the book and do the work, it won't cut it especially if you are not a minority.

he is the worst prof in history, he talks so much bs and treats everyone like their in grade school or boot camp..if u dont take notes he will kick u out of class what bs is that? definately stay away from this sad prof
Terry is the most imcompetent and inexperienced instructor I've ever come across ever. Absolutely arrogant and ignorant; who's has a negative view and can't teach in a positive environment. More so, he's useless as an instuctor, this is a perfect example of where affirmative action has failed.
I can't believe Ryerson lets pple like him teach! He is very unprofessional and plays the favourites game. If you have a different view than his, then you're wrong and you'll get a horrible mark. DO NOT try expressing your own opinions, just say what he wants to hear. Trust me, this unhelpful prof needs to be fired.
this proff thinks he is too smart. everyother persons opinion will be wrong apart from his. he gives marks to students only if he knows you not on how well you know the course. very unprofessional, helpless and arrogant.
Sad excuse of a prof. Gets angry often at the class for little things.

Confidence can be misintepreted as arrogance. Having the gift of knowledge can be misinterpreted as a "know it all". Before you judge someone, find out their purpose. Terry selects people to speak because he wants to to fufill his purpose of wanting people to speak out and fully become aware of the racism that is occuring in society.
The worst professor ever, teaches a class on racism, but he is a **** himself. Favours all the black students over everyone else. The only way to get a good mark in this class is if you admit that he is right all the time and that you have no brains.
EVERYONE's Probably Angry b/c they most likely got a C+ in Terry's course (if that). If he doesn't know you by name (as one of his favourites), don't expect a good grade even if you go to class, read the book AND do the work, IT WON'T CUT IT. PLUS He can be a real jerk!! HOWEVER You Learn Sooo Much Great Info On The CRB That You'll Never Forget!

Awesome, awesome prof...opens the mind for sure, quizzes are tough but final is easy, if you do the readings...excellent debates in class...worthwhile course.
Terry Roswell is incredibly RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL! He also has an extremely bad attitude and is never happy with students no matter how hard they try. This is coming from a student who received an A in his class, not from someone seeking revenge due to getting a poor grade. The class is very interesting, but is ruined by the prof.
I was incredibly excited to take the course last January. The first class, he walks in and basically says we all will do badly and there is no such thing as reverse racism. He gives bonus marks to those who raised their hand in class and made sure he point out who were getting A's.He actually pointed to the people.Terry, stop taking anger out on pp
Not a good learning experience, but he himself is learning how to teach.
Terry is a fantastic professor. His lectures are engaging and his personality is wonderful. He made a class I wasn't interested in the begin with very, very interesting.

Good Professor
The best prof I ever had. Period. He understands students and the**** they live everyday, and really connects with them on all levels! He made sure that people would leave his class with a better understanding of reality in terms of racism and just race in general. He opened a lotta peoples' eyes. He changed my life.
Understands people.... Good teacher.... Nobody comes as real as him
Who cares if you like him or not! The key to passing this class is READ THE TEXT. his lectures do help to understanding the text as well.
by far the worst teacher/person ever. Going to class was a pain in the A**. For someone who experienced racism in their own life he was no better than the ****s who he talks about. A good course but would be better if Camille were the teacher.

Terry? Oh he changed my life, the best liberal prof at ryerson no doubt, take him and show him you want to learn and succeed in his class and you will.
He is really good and helpful. The key to get a good grade is attend his lectures and read the text. If he knows you, he will definitly help you. In general, I'll recommend him and the course is interesting. Just attend and read the text!!!
this was one of best classes I have had at Ryerson, as long as one follows Terry's instructions at the beginning of the year your good. The class is very informative, when u leave the class your outlook on society would have changed. (no stress in this class)
He has some serious issues that needs to be dealt with b/c he's taking it out on students. More importantly, this course is supposed to educate students from all backgrounds about Racism; but Terry's class seems to encourage Racism instead. Avoid the instructor, if you can, very disrespectful.
Simply one of the best, coolest prof's at Ryerson. Always willing to help if you ask for it as soon as you have any problem. Terry has a bright future.
I found the class to be quite ridiculous. It consists of a test, a final exam, attendance, and some 2-page paper. The multiple choice tests are quite obscure, and do not really challenge the information presented in class, but rather use strange terms from the textbook that have not been discussed in any relevant detail. Class wasn't worthwhile.
This class started out so well. It opened my eyes soo much until Terry started making broad generalizations, such as "white people throw their dead in boxes and forget about them" or "Chinese people, even today, think they're better than everyone except white people".
Terry is one of the best profs I had at Ryerson. He always encouraged class discussion, asked thought provoking questions and was knowlegeable about sociology/criminology.
While some things were said in Roswell's class that wouldn't in normal speech, he pushed his class to say exactly what they were thinking. That's how one learns & grows - by having their ideals challenged. I don't believe that it encouraged racism; people are just too sensitive about the subject these days.
great prof. A little intimidating at first but very intelligent and actually wants to have a discussion with his class. Midterms and final was pretty straight forward, not to many trick questions. Im taking another class with him.
What a waste of time. The other CRB profs are much better and show a lot more enthusiam for their courses.
the best prof in ryerson...very
He is extremly bias when it comes to what you write on your essays especially when it's related to race. Unless you're from the Caribbean, don't count on a high grade. I made a mistake enrolling into this course and I advise anyone NOT to take this course !
Terry is cool , you got to know that this course talks about real life controversial issues which happen day to day and if you are not ready to face them dont take this class its not for you ,Terry is going to challenge you in this class ,most people won't like it but what he talks about are facts which need to be addressed
The course itself is interesting and the movies that he Terry actually showed were good. I found it funny that I took so much out of this course, but yet didn't get a grade that reflected that. Must have been because of his poor teaching skills and moodswings.
Great Prof, interesting course. Not easy, you must keep up with the reading to do well, and participation really helps. Much better course than CRB 100.
One of the best profs Ive ever had. He relates to the students. The course CRB100 is pretty easy and straightforward, and his movies are very interesting.
Roswell is one of the most disappointing instructors I have ever seen. In fact, this is clearly a case where "Affirmative Action" has failed. A clear example, he's unapproachable, waste of time and money.
I don't have anything against him but he needs to change his teaching style. It's not helpful if the course is meaningful. His lectures are irrelevant to what you actually read in the text. His moody attitude brushes students off easily. He needs to reevaluate his attitude too when all he does is put the blame on students.
A **** that teaches you how not to be a ****.
Terry is exactly how any prof should be. If you don't want to get interested in class, then you will get a poor mark. If you participate and do your readings, you will do good. I learned so much from Terry, excellent prof.
It's not the student's interest that's the only problem. His teaching style and attitude also need to be evaluated too.
I really enjoyed the text. People say that it was an easy A but you have to work for it. All lot more is expected then you assume going into th class and your mark will show that. I didn't like the profs. attitude in class but I attended and did all my readings and walked away with an A:)
Honestly, Terry is a great prof.At first he seems really unapproachable, but over time, that perspective changed. He knows what he is talking about and he's honestly such a smart guy. You have to go in with a 100% attitude if you want a good mark.those of u who didnt like him probably didnt give him a chance.good teacher, good course
Just an awesome prof.
very interting teacher, makes good jokes, live lectures
Not only does this class require endless mundane readings, you get ABSOLUTELY no credit for the work you do unless you participate in class and suck up before/after class. He definitely has favorites, and it shows in the marks. Ridiculous!
The text we used was "The colour of Democracy". I would like to say that anyone that did not agree with his style's must have not gotten the true concepts of the course. Terry is one of the few professors that have a true passion for his material. This courses challenges you not only to look at racism in society but also within yourself. Terry ROCK
Terry is an awesome professor. Not only does he seem to present each topic from a totally unexpected professor, but he seems to really care about the success of his students. Definitely the most interesting course I've taken, but a lot of this interest had to do with his teaching style.
multiple choice is dreafdul
Most of this course is b.s. Open up the papers and you'll know why.
Took course online. Although I was satisfied with my grade, Terry was sometimes abrasive, and cruel with his responses to student's questions. A little arrogant at times. By his responses, he seemed quite angry at life in general. Not sure what is going on with him. In fairness to him, sometimes students would ask questions that he already answered
Dont listen to all these idiots...i didnt get a very good mark but i can say he is one of the best profs..he cares and helps whenever you ask..
I have learnt a lot from reading the course materials, tht's for sure. However, the teacher is very mean, judgmental and ironically, **** in a way. He doesn't respond to other's questions appropriately. Looks down upon students who are not his "favourites".He seems to be really biased!!The only way to get good make in his class it 2 "Suck up"2 hi
his teaching style is great, he really makes things interesting as opposed to just reading off powerpoint slides or droning. however, he doesn't really seem to care. he missed a lot of classes and can be arrogant.
He hardly came to class after the midterm, and sometimes he didn't announce it and some students had a 5 hour break from their first class to his class, so that was unfair on them. He didn't even cover all the content in the course that he was supposed to and one assignment even got axed - probably because he was too lazy to deal with it.
I want a refund on all the class time he skipped out on. Shameful. He seriously missed half the classes for no reason. He seemed really lazy and much of the course material is subjective but he treated it as objective - his answer was the only answer.
I don't know why he's getting bad reviews. In my opinion, I think he's a fair marker on the essay. Easy marker on tutorials. He knows what he's talking about in lectures. He's nice and approachable.
Very biased. Even if you work really hard, you will never see an A. Marks essays too hard, doesn't really explain marking scheme. And YES he is biased if you are not in his group of favourites!
Mr. Roswell is a great prof! all he ever asks of his students is to take his course seriously! He is in fact teaching you about a subject that connects his lived life with his passion for knowledge and teaching (passing on of that knowledge). If you intend on coming to class unprepared, having done no readings and can't answer questions based on th
fair. dont slack and youll do fine. super leinent
He picks favourites. if your his fav, youll do fine, hes lenient with due dates. participation is KEY! do the readings before class, and know what your talking about.
Professor Roswell is one of the most fun professors at Ryerson. As long as you come to class take initiative and do your best I don't see why you can't get a good mark in his class. I saw him as a brother and he thought me about the meaningful aspects of university rather than just getting a degree. Thanks Terry and don't change! =)
Honestly you decide whether you get a good grade or not ! Attend class; takes notes, do the readings;participate and you`ll pass . This was such an easy and fun class. He`s an excellent prof ; I would definitely take another class with him. He has inspired me to give it my best in every class.Thank you Terry !
With Terry it's simple, give a dam about the material and get an A. People who are complaining think this should be your normal Ryerson liberal, where it is acceptable to sleep in class and play WOW.
Terry gets his point across and really make you think about all your experiences by really making you question them. He makes you go Hmmm...
He picks favourites. Even if you want to participate he will always choose the people he LIKES to be the ones to talk, ALWAYS. He is rude and uncourteous. He will pick on the same people over and over again, just because they talked during class ONCE. My mark in this class is already low and and EXCEL in ALL my other classes.Irecommendyoudropit!
Very intelligent professor, was clear and concise. Exams were difficult if you hadn't attended lecture. Do the class readings before lecture, they help you to remain involved. Overall, I learned a huge amount from him, not only regarding the subject matter, but he also gave good insight on how to be a well informed student.
This professor is not helpful at all, does not answer questions nor show any concern for his students. Seems to be too into the course material and does not accept others opinions when evaluating essay assignments. Would not recommend taking any classes regardless of what you have heard, definitely regret taking a course with him.
terrys a straight g
This is my second degree and I have to say that this is the first time I have encountered a prof of such low quality. I sure hope that something is done as he is clearly not a good representation of what the school and its students are capable of. I would take a course with him if you're looking to waste money and time.
Terry's the nicest guy ever, just do your work and come to class and your set. Treat him with respect and put the time in and he will do the same.
Terry, is a very intelligent professor. He taught me much more than just soc. If you need help, ask! He marks grades based on the merit of your academic character. In others words, listen to whats being taught. Form opinions, and talk to him. You'll be surprised with what you'll leave with. Obv, knowledge on soc. But really knowledge on life.
Great prof, insightful, cares about his students and actually enlightening them.
Professor Roswell is great prof! Come to class and participate! This course connects his life with his passion for knowledge. He taught me stuff that I can apply to my life! If you put in the effort you will get a good mark. You'll leave the class with an insight of knowledge, not just about the Caribbean but knowledge you can apply in your life.
Had Terry for Crime and Justice. He's an awesome prof, really funny and laidback. Loved that his lectures were very participatory, helps students engage in learning. Be prepared to do A LOT of reading for his class though. It's a bit tough but he is a fair professor. To be on his good side: come to class, do the work, and participate in lectures.
Not a good prof. Enroll at own risk.
Unclear standards, fails to reply to emails, hard to receive clarification.
I took this course a few years ago and loved it. Terry was a tough yet relaxed prof. If you demonstrated commitment (attendance, participation) and interest (prepared for class, asking questions, doing the work) there was lots of support for learning. This course (taught by this prof) changed how I think and my direction since. Thank you Terry!
I've had this professor twice and love the way that he teaches. He is a hard marker and expects students to actually do the readings and participate in lecture and seminar, but when you participate it makes it worth your time. He cares a lot about students and has said he would rather have a small dedicated class than a large one that doesnt care.
Terry is very passionate about what he teaches, cares about other people and is a great instructor overall. He is a hard marker but if you show him that you want to learn and put in a high effort to understand the material, you should be able to get the grade that you desire. Terry's classes really change your mentality on an array social issues.
drop it while you can
Professor Roswell is one of the best professors I've ever encountered. Taking his course makes you view the Caribbean in a different light, even if you have ancestry from there. He keeps everyone engaged and if you participate you're well on your way to an A. Great class, would definitely love to have him as a prof again
he is very passionate about what he teaches. If you dont attend his class or come off as if you dont care then I wouldn't take the class. He likes student participation a lot. I learned so much from him and I would definitely love to have him as a prof again
this guy has no respect for nursing students. he's rude and inconsiderate. WARNING: do urself a favour and save ur self respect and GPA by not enrolling. peace terry roswell
I had a great time in his class. You have to enjoy the topic. I got along well with Prof Roswell
I have Professor roswell this semester, and despite the things I've heard he is a great prof. If you are engaged and interested then he will be willing to help you. He is easy-going and I would recommend the class.
He is easily one of the best teachers ive had at ryerson. As long as you participate in the class, he is nothing but nice to you. Its one of those classes where you need to discuss anyway. Tests are super easy (if you go class) and he marks fair and goes over tests so you understand the work. I would definitely have him again
One of the best proffs I had @ Ryerson, life changing is all i can say. Old school proff but actually cares. Thoroughly enjoyed this class. Big up Terry!
Professor Roswell does an outstanding job conducting a class with thorough informative lectures and encourages class discussion to reinforce key concepts being learnt. Put in the effort, participate and you'll earn your grades.
ONE OF THE BEST PROFS! AMAZING TEACHING STYLE! PRETTY COOL TEACHER! ENJOYED HIS CLASS VERY MUCH!
Wayyyy too much work for a Table A course..
Had Prof Roswell twice so far, and he is easily the best prof I have had yet! He has high expectations for his students, but is more than willing to help you as long as you are putting effort into his class. He has a way of captivating his students and does a great job of opening his students' eyes to so many different issues and concepts.
CCRB100 was the first time I took an online course. The readings were very enjoyable and I really enjoyed the assignments. Professor Roswell structured the essay questions and discussion questions well. A lot of work is needed to do well. Only criticism would be the long wait for grading.
Completely useless prof. Posted maybe like 5 announcements throughout the whole course. Only 3 essays, but no rubric offered and doesn't specify what he's looking for and then has the audacity to mark extremely hard AND slowly (takes about a month) Can't believe he gets paid to instruct this course when he literally does nothing to teach it.
I took it online, he has FIVE essays for a lower liberal class, all of which he marks extremely difficult without any form of guideline. Absolutely ridiculous, refused to answer my questions about essays and instead responded with rude remarks. Would strongly advise against taking classes with him.
best prof at ryerson! really cares about the material and is super passionate about it. if you attend lectures, pay attention, and do the readings ahead of time, you can get an A! Thanks Terry!
One of the best profs at Ryerson. Terry's teaching style is direct and his focal points are the definition/terms student should be aware of when having a discourse on racism. He relates class topics to current issues in education, employment and media. You will leave his class with a feeling of ENLIGHTENMENT. I highly recommend his class
Most of the students did not take this course seriously. 100+ students and only 4-5 students posting and contributing weekly. Easy to stand out of you put the work in. He loves use of the textbook for essays.
I took Terry's online CRB 100 class and really enjoyed his teaching method so I took SOC 507 with him in the Fall semester and he is one of the greatest profs at Ryerson. He appreciates students who actually come to work hard. If you don't plan on putting in the work, you won't get the grade you want.I would definitely recommend to take his courses
Professor. Roswell was such a professional and well informed instructor. One of the best prof's I have encountered. His class was not easy but it has truly encouraged me to seek more in regards to such matters he addressed. His drive prompt me to work as hard as I could. I felt ashamed sometimes because I felt "dumb" but he really helped me.

The only thing I don't like about him is that he doesn't give you an outline or rubric for essays. There are 5 ESSAYS for this course and I thought it would have extremely help if students were given more detailed expectations.
This professor has by far been the best prof i have ever had. i will specifically enrol in a class if he will be teaching it. He is very fair, and he respects the students who come to class to learn and participate. He is very easy to talk to and i have developed unforgettable memories and lessons. bottom line he has tough be so much!
Loooved when I had Terry. Such an enlightening course thanks to his teaching style. Is very passionate about the class and its content. Most people took his class because they had to fill in a time slot and showed little interest. They are probably the ones who leave bad reviews. Just participate and do the readings, you'll be totally fine!
Participation is everything. Gets a good discussion going.
I loved Terry Roswell! His class was enjoyable, I actually wanted to be there and looked forward to attending. Easily one of the best educators i've ever had If you are ready to pay attention and participate you will leave the class feeling a lot smarter. I recommend him to all. Profs like him are one in a million.
What turned me off about the course was when he did a jeopardy-type game to prepare for finals, and divided the class into "those who participate" and "those who don't". I didn't think his division was quite accurate and I honestly thought it was disrespectful.
worst course i ever took
professor makes the class interesting, but when its marking time extremely hard marker and really hard to get along with him
extremely rude professor , taking this course was a waste of time and money
By far one of the rudest profs I ever had! Avoid!
very rude hard to approach prof, extremely biased and prejudice, drop the course while your added and save your money
My summer would have been better spent as a victim of professor Roswells ethnic studies.
He expects you to act like an adult (e.g. engage in the class discussions, take notes, etc.) Lectures are very applicable and encourage critical thought! Don't expect an easy mark, you have to work for it, but he will help you out with occasional bonus marks. Truly cares about his students as people. My favourite prof and an amazing guy.
Love him. Had a great class and think I did ok. The group project was horrible and brought my mark down because students don't want to do their work. The essay was hard because he didn't post the rubric until after it was handed in and it should have been in a Canadian context with class content referenced everywhere. But Terry is just fantastic
- Without a doubt Terry is probably the best professor at Ryerson. If you come to class prepared and participate in class discussion you will 100% do well. -Recommend taking the class.
Terry Roswell is one of the worse prof I have ever encountered. He is rude, disrespectful and power hungry. I was very excited to take racism and the Caribbean, however, terry make the class unbearable. I showed up participated and passed with a good grade but I would not recommend him as a prof. I was quite ashamed of his overall disrespect. :(
i took racism and caribbean studies with terry and he took a practical approach to the course. He demotrasted racism in action by his subjective marking on essay and group assignment. If you ask him something he says read the course outline. His ego is through the roof and acts like he's teaching an engineering course
very ignorant prof, acts like he owns the class, like he is doing us a favor by teaching us his boring class, taking this course was a mistake and waste of good time
hate his class with a passion!!!! honestly, dont even bother with his class, you'll prob do better with the online class instead. literally going to his classes or even thinking about his assignments gave me stress and anxiety. i hope i never see him again
Avoid this prof, didn't learn anything in this class. He is about class participation all lecture long. Tough tough marker and would not consider bell curving the mid term even though most of the students failed the mid term. This prof made me really dislike the entire course.. I don't recommend his classes
Honestly this is not a professor who will baby you through the course, but he is fair and worthwhile. With Terry you actually learn something instead of show how well you can regurgitate material... He loves students who engage in class discussion more than anything. I love this professor, I've had him multiple times and hope I get him again soon.
I cannot understand the bad reviews that Terry has gotten on here, it has by far been my favorite class I have taken so far. The students absolutely adored him and he would always take time whether it be at break, or after the class to clarify anything in his lecture.
One of the deepest and blessed professors I have ever had. A great mentor, his depth and wisdom were greatly appreciated. Terry challenges you to think outside of the box and challenge societal norms. Expects critical thinking and application of course material on assignments and breakout sessions. A breath of fresh air.
I felt very blessed to have taken this course. He is indeed a professor who is challenging and thoughtful for a topic which is of undeniable importance in our society. He encourages participation through rewarding of bonus marks. He is not an easy grader but as he emphasizes grades really are just a letter and do not measure up to life lessons.
He speaks in a highly negative and sarcastic tone, demeaning students intelligence and effort to participate. He does not post slides or any notes on D2L. This was the worst upper liberal I ever took, purely based on the professor, course content and grades were okay. The most disrespectful and egotistical prof at Ryerson.
Very interesting class discussions, come to class willing to engage and you will do well.
It was an honour having Terry in my final semester. Uses the textbook, so do the readings, participate in discussions,he will value this at the end. One of the rare profs that makes you think about the world we live in and how it functions. Midterm and final were mc& short answer. Not your typical boring prof which is what makes his class awesome
This prof acts like he's teaching an engineering course. He disrespects Ryerson University, and all programs that have could be applied in the real world. Being in his class I can tell how depressing his life is. He is always bitter and if he does not like you we will give you improper grades. AVOID THIS PROF AT ALL COST.
I was pleased to have Terry as a professor this year for summer school. He comes off as mean or demanding, but that could be due to a lack of participation in his class. He cares about participation as he feels we learn best from each other. Go to class, ask and answer questions.. that's how you'll pass. will be taking more classes with him!
The best prof yet. Be prepared to do your readings as he does challenge students to ensure it has been done. Terry cares alot about the well being of his students and doesn't hesitate to provide assistance when needed. Terry takes his job very seriously, (as should all prof)so if you're looking to waste time he's not the prof who will let it slide.
Terry is extremely laid back, but always willing to thoroughly discuss any topics you did not understand. Gives bonus marks for participation. Is very understanding. Wants his students to learn for themselves, and not just regurgitate texts.
Avoid at all cost!! To all business students who are looking for a bird course this is not for you. His course has no purpose in the real world but he acts like he is making a change. Always agree with his point of view and pretend to care if you want to pass. This prof needs to realize the university and students are what puts food on his table.
This professor is not very approachable, the course content seemed like it would be interesting, however, due to his behaviour, I dropped the class within the second week. Very rude.
INCREDIBLE. AMAZING. You either love him or hate him. But I thought he was great. Really chill, but his assignments are a little hard. He makes you participate! A really inspirational class! (SOC203)
He is an awesome lecturer - really makes you think about your own bias and helps you to grow and understand different perspectives. He answers questions and is very accommodating. He is a tough marker and expects people to show up to class, with the readings done, and ready to have an intelligent conversation. If you do that though you will do well
business kids don't take this class 1. doesn't post slides 2. very vague about his assignments and what he wants 3. gets upset if the class does poorly, critisizes students and states how he should've stayed home, or that he couldve stayed home. 4. negative and rude SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME
FANTASTIC! He has really high expectations; expects the students to come to class ready to engage. If you do the readings, and go to class you'll be fine. He does not post his slides, so you shouldn't skip his class; that's his strategy to penalize those that skip and reward those that attend the lectures. Goes out of his way to help students.
There are a lot of group presentations! Make sure you pay attention to those and take notes. The textbook is very important; do read! He will go out of his way to really push you to learn and think. Take the initiative to learn and he will reward you. Wanna skip? It'll be much harder.
His class was based mostly on the textbook. We had only presentations after the first 4 weeks. If you don't speak in his class, he assumes you're uninterested or didn't do the readings. But if you talk to him, I'm assuming you would have a different experience with the class. If you're interested in the course, the text book is engaging.
worst prof i ever had, save ur money and time. He acts like his class is saving the world.
tough grader, doesn't put slides, is very rude and extremely hard to approach.
Dr. Terry is an inspirational prof who wants you to leave his course having learned something. He is a very approachable and knowledgable Criminologist. The course content and structure are designed to make you a better citizen, and more aware of the issues plaguing Canadian society. Buckle up, show up, and you will have no problems.
Terry is the best prof I ever had! Lectures are engaging and he gives more context than what textbook offers. Passionate about his work and expects your best effort along with critical thinking. Approachable and respectful with amazing humour in lectures. I would highly suggest taking his class however you can fit it class in your schedule!
Terry is the most inspirational prof I ever encountered. I was fortunate to have some of his time. He challenged me to practice critical thinking. Lectures give more than what textbook offers. Approachable, respectful with amazing humour in lectures. I would highly suggest taking his class if you are interested in being engaged!
I don't know if it's because it was a summer course or if he really wasn't into my class but he was very passive aggressive. Likes to make people anxious. I really didn't enjoy his style of teaching. Power points that he runs through/has favourites & groups them together/kicked everyone out once cause he was mad we didn't read a chapter... DON'T!!
Avoid avoid avoid. If there were any advice I could give is avoid. He'll ruin something you were actually interested in. Trust me.
Professor Terry was my favourite teacher at Ryerson. He was very engaging and explained the content with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. It was really obvious that he was passionate about the subject and helped me to think critically. Definitely pay attention in classes and contribute to discussions to get the full experience.
This professor was very open and you have to go to his class to understand the lecture, but the textbook saved me! If you want to take his class, you have to read the textbook for this particular course (which is a lot of pages). But he doesnt put up the PowerPoints which is unfortunate! So you cant skip his class!
An amazing, insightful, inspiring professor. Refreshing & engaging. If you're looking for a bird course, this isn't it. If you are looking to increase your knowledge, engage in critical thought, expand your horizons & come out a bit better than you started, this is it. Show up to class, read the textbook, take notes (be a student) & you'll do great
Terry is a awesome teacher, do your work, study for the exam and attend class regular and you are sure to pass the course. He is also very enthusiastic about the course
Terry is a solid guy who is an advocate against today's learning system. He tries to reach students on a personal level with his teachings and really cares about the bigger picture which is whether you find value in what he's teaching or not. For the most part, read the slides, jot useful notes down and you'll do stellar in his course. Amazing guy.
The reason you endure through the post-secondary institution is to have the chance to catch an ounce of insight. Terrys lectures are riddled with crucial life lessons which will influence, inspire and instil aspirations of growth and success in a future full of service and intellectual growth. Do yourself a favour, seek out his courses.
I took his class on theories of crime at Laurier. Theory can be dry, however, Terry made sure every class was a learning experience and would ask questions that would make us think to get our brains turning. By far the best prof I have ever had, he made it easy and fun to listen to his lectures.
To me he was kind of non-approachable? The environment and atmosphere he put out was not my favourite as it felt like he was picking on people sometimes. He seems really knowledgeable and he really wants class engagement so definitely speak up cus he loves it. Assignments seem easy but are super vague, ask him for help on those if you need it.
I came in thinking I'd learn something but I've learnt barely anything. Too vague on assignments and expectations. Makes slides and then retracts them. Doesn't give fair marks. Doesn't care about students. Would NEVER recommend this class unless you're looking for a GPA drop. The most unsettling class I've ever taken in my life.
Went in to his class quite intimidating, however; he got me out of my comfort zone and made me engage in class. Normally this would make me upset, but he talked to you like a friend and not a student. If you show up regularly, he will know your name and is the best professor I have had to date. Strongly recommend him as a professor!
Terry is one of the best professors I've had. Although some of the readings are pretty long, it helps to read the articles. He is very engaging in his classes as he addresses his students as "my friend". Pretty easy course with only two papers and two exams,
First thing to know, there's no textbook and while that's great for you pocket, there's still a lot to read. Every week you're assigned 2 articles to read, each 20 pages. It's a lot and I didn't read them all but you should because his powerpoints are few and empty. Lucky for me, the pandemic hit and he felt bad for us...
Terry is one of the most charismatic professors I have ever had. He feeds off of the energy of the class and likes to call upon people, so keep that in mind, he promotes a really supportive environment though. Exams are easy, all the course work was straight forward. He is super passionate about what he teaches and cares about his students.
If you are someone with a disability I would not recommend Professor Roswell. He was very reluctant to allow me to access my AAS Accommodations and implied that I would not contribute equally to my upcoming group project due to my request for them. I still put all my effort in and aced the class but that type of ableism was not okay in my book.
Terry is one of the only profs I've had that seemed to care about his students, He loves to engage with students in conversation so be prepared for a lively discussion. He has strong opinions, but was always willing to listen to other viewpoints and discuss them further. Oh, and not sure if this is important to you, but I LEARNED!!!!!! A++
