Teaches math very well. The first day of class he made me think he wasn't going to be that great, but he will go to great depths to help you understand what is going on. His tests are very fair.

I took him a few years ago, and dont remember much but that he's good to look at.

Very structured in way of teaching. Could use more technology in the classroom.

Always takes time out to answer questions, and has some particularly quirky interests that he'll chat about out of class (ex: Monty Python). All around, a great teacher and a funny guy. I'd take him every year if he taught the right classes at the right times for my schedule..

Terry Shell is the very best math teacher on campus!=D I would take math from him every semester if he was teaching, even though I -hate- math. He's very funny, and loves math, but is still human, not obsessed and definately nerdy.

Mr. Shell is probably the best math teacher I've had thusfar. He's fun to be around, and he really enjoys math, which helps students enjoy it more. Terry is great! Really good teacher, takes time to explain the material and makes sure you understand it. He has fun stories he likes to tell and he makes the class fun. I would take him for all my math courses if he taught them all, and I hate math! I highly recommend Terry.

Not having taken Math for 5 years and feeling VERY apprehensive.. I did really well in his class. He was very helpful and understood that it wasn't easy for all of us, so I respected him because of that. One of the best teachers I've had at the JC thus far. Definately recommend him over almost ANYONE in the Math department.

Terry Shell is the best math teacher i ever had! I did poorly in math all throughout high school and college. He has a unique teaching style thats easy to follow. I got all a's and b's in his classes!!! he even gives you his home number if you need help on assighnments. He's also extremely good looking, gave me motivation to show up to class

Mr Shell is an excellent teacher. He will find a way to help a student understand difficult material, but he does have high standards for student effort. He is very fair,always available at office hours, wants students to succeed and like math. He is the BEST!

Terry Shell is a great math teacher. If you hate math, take Shell. If you love math, take Shell. Terry takes the time to make the class fun and if you just aren't getting it, he will take the time to help you. I can't believe that some people actually didn't like the guy. Must be that 151 and 155 are brutal classes by nature.

English and Theater are my goals, but if I were a math whiz, I know I would fly through this class because he allows for a page of notes during tests. I wish there were some way to incorporate art into algebra to make more sense to me. Terry Shell is a handsome man and he has a sexy voice and that makes taking his class a pleasurable experience.

I love math anyway, but he made things so easy to understand. It had been about 7 years since I had seen a math book and I figured this would be difficult for me, but it wasn't. He made me want to persue math as a major. He was very helpful and answered any problems you might have.

I failed the previous course under a different instructor. Terry Shell, and the MWF schedule, made all the difference. This last semester I earned a B. He's not easy, he's very demanding, but fair, and more than willing to work with anybody who needs additional help, office hourse, etc.

Very clear, very enthusiastic, but could be better on easing you in to new concepts. John Martin teaches the same courses, and I recommend him over Shell by just a hair. If you can't get Martin, Shell is great.

I hate math and have always been bad at it. This class was easy to follow and his teaching style is clear and understandable. Not a huge work load, he is considerate about time spent on homework and wether or not the class understands material.

Paying attention in his class is easy and you are never put on the spot. Learning the material is only a matter of listening and doing your homework every once in a while. Quizzes are easy and so are the tests. A guy who really wants all of his students to succeed.

Terry Shell was one of the best teachers I've ever had for math. This is a gut that truly loves his subject and his enthusiasm rubs off. Do the homework to keep up, but you don't have to turn it in. No tricks on quizzes or tests. You won't be disappointed!

This guys is the greatest teacher i think i have ever had. He really knows how to do his job because he covers all the material while he still has a sense of humor which keeps me and a lot of other students more attentive. If you have the chance to take this guy as a math teacher...DO IT!

I can't believe anyone would write anything bad about terry. he makes sure everyone understands. he is a very prompt teacher and clarity is his specialty. he loves math and he will make you love it too. He is the best math teacher i ever had!

He assigns homework but doesn't collect it, has a quiz or test almost every class, & doesn't like students who "write down everything he says." His final covers the whole semester's material. Is a generous grader and gives partial credit whenever possible. A little disorgnaized but answers all questions asked in class, tries to make the class fun.

If you're looking for a good math teacher... you found him! I had never liked math before this past semester. Now I realize I just had crappy math teachers. Shell is a great teacher, he takes time to make sure everyone knows what is going on and everyone understands. He's funny, knowledgeable, and very approachable.

Terry Shell is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. He has a deep passion for his subject and makes a great effort to get the material across to the whole class, not just those naturally good at math. His grading is extremely fair and even offers partial credit for HW and exam questions when its clear you made your best effort.

Shell saved my college career! Before taking him, I thought I would never graduate because I would never understand college algebra. I was an F student in math until Shell. Terry is my favorite math teacher ever. He always walked into the room with a big smile on his face and was eager to help people in any way. He makes an effort to remember you and still says hi to me when he sees me in the hallway. Standard math class, chapter tests, homework every night, cumulative final, note sheet allowed on final.

The guy looks just like the character Fraiser Krane! And his mannerisms are like Fraiser. Besides that, crystal clear instructions, funny. Finally a math class with a great teacher.

Shell goes through every tiny step and explains why, how refreshing! Finally a teacher who teaches! Funny jokes, and ask him to show this great card trick.

I almost dropped out of this class last summer because it had been so long since I took math and I was so intimidated by a summer-paced course. However, Shell was a very clear teacher who answered everyone's questions and never made you feel stupid for not knowing something, even at a more "advanced" class. I've never learned math as painlessly as with this professor. He is very helpful with explaining concepts in an simple way. WARNING: the pace of his class may result in a huge learning curve for higher level classes (it did for me). He'll admit that his math155 is not a calc-prep class, but oriented for those who will not take higher-level math.

An extremely helpful teacher. I personally never asked for help because this level of math was easy for me, but when someone else asked a question, he would stop at nothing to make sure he/she understood the material. He is also very nice and never makes any of his student feel dumb. Yay!

This was the greatest math teacher I have EVER had. I hate math. I took this course over the summer so it was alot of work. But he was a great teacher. He really cares about making sure you understand everything. I have never gotten an A in math before and I got an A in this math class! (I almost started to enjoy math during this class haha)

I don't do well in math classes, but actually did well in this one.HW every class period, but nothing too ridiculous. His tests are very straight forward, if a section was on how to do a certain problem, that's what he tests you on, his questions usually don't combine concepts. You're allowed a sheet of notes on each test and on the final.

Algebra scared the pants off me before I took this Prof's class. I was sure I would fail. T.Shell is what a math teacher should be. He loves math and wants you to love it too. He's clear, interesting and there are no dumb questions. Cheat Sheet for all exams, even final. Very Highly Recommended! Especially if you're math-phobic or math-ignorant

SO SO SO wonderful! I was always so terrible at math and he really taught it in a way that I could understand. He is very funny, he had me cracking up all the time. The class is a really fun and relaxed environment. Make sure to take him!

Super easy class, very friendly guy. He goes fairly slow when teaching it and he does a lot of examples, so if you're bad at math, he'll be a great teacher for you! Tests are easy, too! No trick questions. Grade is based on tests, but like I said, they're easy. Do the homework even though you don't turn it in because it'll help.

Shells a overall good teacher.But sometimes he would make you feel like you in high school again. You're not allowed to go to the bathroom or leave and if you come in late you calls you out and embarrasses you, sometimes if you ask a question he'll make you feel like an idoiot but he will explain. I would recommend this class though.

Recomend him to anyone. He's mildly entertaining as much as you can in a math class. Grades fairly and doesn't have killer tests. The HW doesn't take forever and you learn the material.

Wonderful man, it's very obvious he finds a genuine joy in teaching math. Explains concepts clearly, and is very helpful. He maintains the belief that test questions should be easier than homework. Also, he draws questions on the final from your previous tests, so keep them handy to study!

Extremely helpful teacher; at times (when I miraculously understood what we were covering) it could be frustrating to have him go so slow. But the class is a breeze as long as you do the work and study (this is coming from someone who has never done well in math...and got a 100% on 2 exams this semester). Great teacher, take his class.

Second class I've taken with him, I opted specifically for the 7:30am class because he was teaching it. One of my favorite math instructors. Lecture style is very clear, and he throws some geek humour in sometimes too. Tells you what to anticipate for midterms, and the final is a compilation of the midterms (previous tests are the best study tool).

However, he doesn't control the class well, especially regarding to old ladies who want to share their personal life's experience during his class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I loved this math class! [Can that ever even be said?] The class was extremely laid-back and helpful, just like Mr. Shell. Do your homework and show up for class and you'll be fine! The tests are easy and he allows a cheat sheet. If you really want to learn something: take this class! We've learned poker tricks and real life applications! Awesome!

he is one of the best teachers here at the JC. makes calculus painless. however i spend around 10+ hours a week in the math lab trying to get it. So that could be why its all sinking in. but he teaches super clear very generous grader on tests. either way if you want a good grade you need to put time into the subject. TERRY IS BRILLIANT!

Shell is crystal clear and is more than happy to work problems with you during his office hours. You get 3 absences and need to notify him ahead of time if you're going to miss; very empathetic if you're sick.

He's good. Show up, do the work, and you'll do fine. Math is definitely a subject I don't enjoy, but Shell did a good job at making it clear. He also allows note sheets on tests.

This guy is amazing. He gets extremely excited for math, and makes things as simple as possible. HIs class is NOT easy, but he makes it as easy at calculus possibly could be. I've only had 1 other Math teacher, and she was worse by a lot. You will not miss out with Shell.

All i have to say is this is the best Mathematics professor at SRJC. He will help you out if you visit him during office hours and overal a very nice guy, highly recommended.

Shell pretty easy but you have to be dedicated to the homework and tests, which you should be anyway in calculus. He is kind of disorganized and spacey, which can be hard to deal with if you're an organized OCD student like me. He is really nice, though, and tries to do everything he can for his students to succeed.

He LOVES to teach Math! It is really hard to not like this guy. Don't mistake his niceness for an easy class. Many failed my 1A class. But if you apply yourself, it is easy enough to get an A. From what I've heard, John Martin is the best option if you really want to learn as much as possible, though he is not as awesome as Shell.

He is one of the best teachers. He loves students who really do their homework and who study hard. His exams are very clear. he will use only material that you have learn in class.

Nicest guy ever. Shell really loves teaching and loves helping his students. Grades fairly easy on exams. Requires homework, but it really helps on the exams. For my class, the exam strongly resembled class exams. Shell could get a little unfocused at times, but overall great professor for a first semester in calculus.

Best Math Teacher I have had. The way that Shell explains math is so easy to grasp. He is very organized, helpful, kind, and respectful to his students. Highly recommended teacher; I a also currently enrolled in his Math 27 but, I did have him for Math 155.

Terry was a nice guy, and laid back teacher. He didn't get angry when people came in late, and didn't take attendance. He takes every thing nice and slow which is perfect for an early morning class. Hwk is short and sweet, tests can be a bit tricky but you always get a page of notes. It was a good stress free math class.

I don't think I would've made it through the class if it wasn't for his humor. He really cares about teaching, about his students and really finds math cool. Which made me feel the same way. 2-3 homework assignments from the book a week. Tests and grades are fair. Doesn't accept late work. I would recommend him.

Teaching at its best!

Shell is a spectacular teacher. I took him for both Math 27 and Math 1A because I liked him so much. He puts a lot of effort into making sure you understand the material and is incredibly helpful in office hours. He's willing to schedule meetings if you can't make his regular hours. Not an easy subject but definitely excels at teaching it.

Be prepared for daily homework, half of which is done the next day in-class. You can tell he lives and breathes math, the amount of joy he gets from the mention of formulas is heart-warming. It's clear to see that he wants to do everything he can to redeem some of the bad reputation that the subject has. The pacing is slow to ensure you understand!

Terry is an AMAZING teacher. I am the most horrible student when it comes to math, and this guy made it so easy for me to understand math. He shows you the more simple way of doing equations, a more easier way to understand. I retaken this class before with a different teachers and, I'm telling you he's the best. too bad he's retiring. I wish Terry was teaching Math 155 because he is AWESOME! He cares about his students. Daily homework, and tests (he gives a study guide). Terry is so clear and makes sure everybody understands what he is teaching before moving on. For someone who hated math I got 84,96 and 100 on my three tests (that's saying something) and he's hilarious!

Very good teacher. This is teaching at its very best. One of the very best at the Jc. His class is not that easy, really makes you work for your grade but is there for you for any questions you might have. Highly recommend. His class fills up quick though, so get in right away.

Awesome teacher! This was my second time taking math 1A, but he made it very clear and super easy to understand! Allows notes 1 page both sides on every tests and practically tells you the test problems. Daily homework, but fairly simple if pay attention in lecture. Wish we was teaching 1B!

I took Shell for Math 27 and Math 1A both classes were great! He is clear and teaches at a nice pace with lots of examples. He is cheerful and energetic even at 7:30 am! He allows for a page of notes for each test. Test questions are often easier than the hwk, gives partial credit, final exam can replace lowest test score. Homework is fairly light.

Terry goes slow enough with the material that you actually understand it. Terry also goes over any problems students have with the homework that they are turning in. He is clear and overall a great teacher! If you study and work hard you can do well.

I LOVED Terry Shell! I took his class M-Th. He really knows what he is doing! He wants to help his students and make sure they know what they are doing! Great Math teacher, easy to follow and easy to understand his lectures. Homework becomes a breeze as long as you don't miss any for his classes and so far he is the only instructor that I know that lets you use one page of notes for you test. If you are taking math this is the best teacher to take :D

I took a handful of classes with Terry about 10 years ago. Hands down, the best math instructor I ever had (even after finishing grad school). Terry knows how to make abstract concepts accessible and layers in just the right amount of humor to keep you interested. (It didn't hurt that he's not bad on the eyes either)

Great instructor. Clear, helpful, approachable, funny. He is good at explaining the concepts in relatable terms. I wrote down all his in class notes and rarely had to use my book to help me figure out problems on the homework. Allows notes on tests. Pre-tests resemble actual tests. Doesn't assign excessive amount of homework.

The best professor ever ! Math has been a challenge my whole life, and it kept me at the JC for two more years than planned. Terry made math easier to understand, he took his time to explain it well, and was approachable for extra help. He is straight when it comes to what you need to study for exams which I appreciate. Took this algebra class a couple years ago. I thought it was really easy. His teaching style is good. I would take him again for geometry or precalc.

I loved taking Math 27 with Mr. Shell. He has such a calm demeanor and he acts like he has seen it all (in a good way). Everything is done very methodically and the structure and outline of the course is very straightforward. No surprises on tests and quizzes. He is by the book.
