Class is confusing, rushed, and unorganized. Professor expects you to know what she wants without telling you. Constantly tells class what they are doing is wrong and makes students afraid to ask questions.
micro lab is very easy, especially if you've taken the lecture already, would recommend this teacher for her easiness but the class is totally retarded, its full of freshmen nursing majors and shes totally mean to people who don't know exactly whats shes talking about all the time
She seriously has issues. She keeps mentioning that she is from the Navy and "WHO CARES????" Just because she was in the Navy, doesn't mean that she has to teach us as if we're in bootcamp. Just by being in her class and listening to her lectures gave me a headache. I would NEVER recommend students to take her class! SO DON'T!
211 lab is very easy, but interpersonally she can be a hassle. If you overlook this and don't let her get to you, you're in for a breeze. 210 lecture is amazingly easy, and moderately interesting. Summer condensed format was good. A very fair grader and anything less than a B+, you're just lazy and didn't take full advantage. I'd take her again.
at first she scared the crap out of me. i dreaded her class, but she is just like that the first few weeks to scare you. she's a very helpful teacher and will stay after to help you out. we had like 6 quizes and she drops one, lab books, had a final exam and wrote a paper. paper was very easy and i thought the final was hard and i still got an A-
i had her for the summer and it was ok. she had all the lecture notes and material up online and if you didnt make class you could get the info. but then she took them down cause ppl were not coming to class, which really messed me up cause i like to have the notes in class. interesting person... lotsa personal stories... she actually expects you to listen to them!!~ she puts it on the tests... once she let us have a group test... lotsa interesting pictures. TAKE HER FOR BIO 100... THATS ABOUT IT!!
Mrs. Light may be "the dragon lady," but I think she is a great instructor. The lab is not easy. Don't take it from her if you just want to breeze by. She provides excellent instruction, she cares about the safety of everyone, and she expects you to jump in and learn.

Yeah, she can be kind of scary at first. But she jokes a lot. So don't take her threats too seriously, she's very fair and trys to help you succeed.
Ms. Light is a very good instructor. She is helpful, nice and cares about her students. Her tests are fair, and she is an easy grader. She is full of energy and even though she may seem scary at first, behind the mask there is a sweet person.
SHe straight up don't know what she is talking about. She basically READS off her slides. No extra information included. She sucks bad. This class was sooo boring!! REPEAT: BORING!!!!! You DON'T LEARN anything and she cracks LAME jokes. WARNING: AVOID TAKING HER CLASS!
she puts on a front @ first of being EXTREMELY difficult and demanding but trust me the class is a complete opposite. dont be late to class. take some notes during her lectures and study them (and the book) before her quizzes. she's sometimes boring and unorganized but EASY. oh, and don't be afraid of her yelling either- - thats her "humor".
First, 20min+ are wasted on the whole class taking role, another 20 screwing with her computer getting her powerpoint to work, then she just reads the slides! She a lot of time adjusting her mic, and whatever time is left on the lesson. She can't answer questions asked in class, as she really doesnt know what she's talking about.She should be fired
Terry is a crazy lady!! She seems to be mean and sometimes is but that is just her personality. If you pay attention in class and read over the text or take the online quizzes you will do fine. The tests are straight form lecture/book and are easy!

She is a little loopy, but she is pretty funny and entertaining. All the lectures were posted on powerpoint, so it was difficult to attend class, but she does take attendance. Pretty easy. Take it in the summer. All the tests are multiple choice

waste of my time. sometimes takes role but just reads her powerpoints which i could do at home. Her questions on the exams were not clear and neither was what she wanted studied. Sometimes it was way too easy and others was confusing. She is all over the board

I actually really liked her. She cares that you do well. I was scared in the beginning by her. But that's just her being funny. She upset some students, but don't take her comments seriously! Laugh it off and do review questions before quizes. The Unknown Report is not graded hard, the final is totally fair, but if she offers extra credit do it.
She's a cool teacher. Attendance is mandatory which sucks. However, her tests are very tricky. You have to really read the question. Its worded a different way. And the lecture notes are useless. You have to actually read the book.
She is the worst teacher I've ever had.She reads word for word from the book,which she copies into slides to present to the class.On our first exam day,she showed up 40 mins late and expected us to still finish by the end of class,and the tests were not even stapled in correct order.She is monotone and cannot pronounce words to save her life.
I dont even know what to say about T Light. Shes crazy, and really hilarious. Super intimidating, hated this class at first, afraid to ask questions because she will seriously call you stupid. Once you get used to her and her teaching style, the class is great. She wants you to do well. Dont freak out, the first couple of weeks suck
She makes a point of trying to scare off students for the first couple of weeks, so that the students who remain in the class are the ones who truly want to be there. Give it a couple of weeks and the class will be fun. She does care a lot about her students, and wants to see them succeed. Easy class if you like the subject.

The WORST teacher in SFSU! Only thing she can do is read the word to word from her PPT. She is so unorganized! She even doesn?t know what is on her own teaching plan! She seems does not know that much about the topic that she has probably been teaching for years in SFSU. She is a monotone and can?t pronounce words that is her topic!
The worst teacher. Why? Because she is dishonest. She says study from the slides. ignore EVERYTHING she says and read the textbook. What she says will not be on exams will be so do not believe her. She knows zip about basic chem (but will put it on exam). If you have her lec then do not take her lab. 2nd midterm average was 56% for 75 person class.
Beginning she may be scary, but you will get the feel after a few class periods. The class is not that difficult you remember to do your notebook and read about the lab prior to the class period. I thought i was going to be harder than i thought i didn't know what i was doing like 80% of the semester and i ended up getting a B to my surprise.
Awesome teacher. Crystal clear, goes over everything. Posts the powerpoint slides for review at home as well. Lectures on the material that will be on the tests so there are no surprises or getting blindsided. Very nice and overall a very informative class. Pleasant and funny as well. Highly recommended.
She is a great teacher and easy to follow. I enjoyed her lab class and learn a lot.
If the instructions aren't followed, your grade will suffer and she'll embarrass you in front of the whole class. I felt that she was biased toward some students. I wrote the same answer as my lab partner on quizzes and got a lower score...

She is not a friendly person and she thinks she is better than everybody else. She is kind of immature with her attitude; not very professional if you ask me.
u to take it seriously- she wants everyone to do well. 4 MC tests and gave everyone the opportunity to do an extra credit paper. She gave many exact questions on the final as on the other tests. If u study, u should be able to get an A. you have to study what she tells you though.
For General Micro lab, Light is super easy! She may scare you the first week or so, but that's just her messing around. She's really just joking, so go with it. Easy grader for 402. I hear she's a lot harder with the nursing students. I enjoyed this class.

She's just so ridiculous and full of herself, she honestly thinks shes one of the best. All she ever did was read verbatim off the presentations, elaborations for the class. I'm no science genius so I was not exactly looking forward to this class...lets just say she made me hate science even more.
This professor talks about people leaving because she is mean, she isn't mean, just scattered brain, she is not clear or organized, save yourself the head ache, choose another professor, I warn you, if you have half a brain you will be upset all the time, also she never finishes on time, you will be late to your next class (if you have one).
AVOID HER CLASS IF POSSIBLE! BIO 211 Lab is a moderate course but she makes it more difficult than it should be. She isn't consistent w/ her syllabus or word, very unorganized,leaves the lab at random times,& tends to pick on & humiliate students in front of the class. She will find ANY reason to knock off pts on notebook checks,lab technique, etc.
What is wrong with you people? Do you guys not get the difference between sarcasm and rudeness? Light was a great professor for lab. You just have to read the lab manual so you get a gist of what you'll be doing, and keep up with your lab manual. I had Govindan for lecture and I wish I took Light, because she actually has personality.
Not the most interesting or exciting class or teacher.Took it in the summer, so 2 hrs was tough. She won't bother or call you out unless you slack or talk, which you shouldnt be doing in college anyway. The subject is hard, but she is a bit easy. I recommend to take it as a full semester, and not in summer. To me, a nice lady.
Basically. first couple of weeks she will mess w/ u and pick on you. She's doing it to make sure you listen to her. As the semester goes on she will lighten up. She actually likes her students, even threw us a party. ATTENDANCE IS EVERYTHING. KEEP UP WITH YOUR NOTEBOOK. AND READ THE LAB BEFORE CLASS.she forgets stuff very often.
Kind of a tough class, but she is actually funny/cooky! She seems tough in the beginning, but she warms up to you. She picks on everyone, so don't take it personally. I actually enjoyed her class. I would recommend it. She has 6 quizzes (STUDY FOR THEM), a final, lab notebook (DO IT), and an unknown report due at the end.
Reads of PPT but i find it helpful. Very funny and open. She drops the lowest test, randomly checks attendance but if ur there every day, you dont have to take the final!!! (i think u need an A too but i forgot..) Easy if you study 45mins-1hr everyday. Feels like a high school class :)

I took her over the summer and she is not as hard as everyone says she is. The class is challenging bcuz its a summer course you learn M-Th & then an exam on Fri. She allows a notecard&HINT keep all your old exams and review those for the final! If you attend every lecture it will reward you. She's also very nice dont be scared of her ask questions
LOVED the lab class! You do so many interesting experiments. Just dont mess up & follow the safety rules! Wear your lab coat, tie your hair up, DONT CHEW GUM, & ask questions if you dont know. Follow these steps & she will not yell at you. My class behaved well & so she did not yell. Dont be intimidated she's very nice :)
Professor Light was really nice and wanted to see her students succeed. Just make sure you pay attention,follow the rules,and read the lab instructions before class. Also, the TA, Chris Cao, was so patient with all the students, was very helpful, and did a great job when he taught the class. Ask questions and always keep up with your notebook!
I took BIOL 211 (microbio lab) with professor Light last Fall 2012 and she was so amazing and fun! She is by far on e of my favorite professors and she keeps the class interesting. She may seem mean but she will help you be prepared to become a nurse.
She goes very quickly through slides that are basically copied from the book (which she says we should look at if we miss anything). She rambles and it makes it hard for you to focus on the main idea. Although her tests are multiple choice, the questions are tricky. No study guides or anything--for 3-4 chapters worth of info. do not take her.

She went too fast and couldn't keep up and half the time her slides didnt match and she kept rambling on. by 2nd week i decided not to show up and took her class credit/no credit but had no choice to take her.. DONT TAKE HER!!!
I had Mrs.Light for Fall 2012 and she's a kind and although she may lecture at a fast pace, she's a funny, kind, and caring old lady. If you just study the slides, you won't really need the book.Plus her grading scale is curved, so it's impossible to fail. she also drops your lowest midterm score which helps a lot.
I took this class for Fall 2013. She reads straight off of the slide, but if you ask questions she will go into depth. She's funny, nice and caring. If you study her PowerPoints and read the book you'll ace the tests easily. No homework, so your grade is your test grades, but the grading scale is very easy, the lowest C is a 57% for example.

I really got lucky with her class.. Like everyone said she doesn't teach much. She reads directly off slides and emphasizes that you read the textbook. Her tests are long and difficult. Luckily, she curves and becomes much more generous towards the end of the semester (take home/group tests). Nice lady, but not a very interactive teacher.
Mrs. Light was not very helpful at all and her teach method was purely through powerpoints that she just read over. Her tests are not easy but she does want you to pass the class though so she curves the grades and gives a take home test and group test. She occasionally takes roll. I would not make her your first choice.

Professor Light is an amazing teacher. She is a professor who CARES about the quality of your education. Everyone seems to complain about her because she is a hard teacher but honestly, she isn't hard at all. She has a great sense of humor. Take her if YOU want to learn. This is college, you're here to learn.
Professor Light is one of the most caring teachers I have ever had in my life. She reads off the slides a little but if you ask questions she's ready to answer and very helpful. Everyone on here complaining it's hard did not try at all, if you read before class as instructed it's very easy and her tests are right off her PowerPoints and the book.
As everyone says, she reads off the slides. She is not in any way helpful. Random quizzes and exams will screw you over if you don't study on your own. What's the point of going to a 9am class if she doesn't start lecturing (poorly made PowerPoint slides) until 9:30?
directions were too fuzzy, Assigned Extra Credit, without telling anyone, her Syllabus and handouts for assignments constantly conflict with each other. I've been going to SFSU for 3 years now, and she was by far the worst teacher I've had. 2/10
fun, and easy teacher, i don't know why some people say she is hard, if you study for every test, you will get an easy A, and if you get an A you don't have to take the final. However all the questions of the final are the same questions of midterms. and try to go to all classes.
Terrye taught my 5 week accelerated Micro Biology Lecture and Lab. The course moved quickly but was clear and straightforward. As long as you followed the reading of the syllabus and studied the suggested material, an A was not far away. Terrye is also very helpful and collaborative, IF, you ask for help. Be the squeaky wheel and you'll do great.
She is a horrible teacher. Its basically like you are teaching your self there is no need to go to class at all because the lectures and power points are right in the textbook and each test it straight from the book. So as long as you study and read each chapters you are good to go.
I just have her for lab, and she is the worst. We do not get finished on time, she doesn't really seem to know whats going on, she grades tough, and randomly freaks out. You can tell she was in the military with her drill instructor attitude. We had a sub come in one day and he taught me more in one class than I ever learned from Light.
Very easy class for GE. Drops lowest score and a 60% is basically a C. Lectures are very boring and she reads straight from the Powerpoint. she occasionally assigns homework but it's pretty easy. There are clicker questions but not very consistent. Just study the lecture slides she puts online for her exams. Easy!
Literally, one of the worst professors I've had so far here at SFSU. She's inconsiderate, doesn't ever check her e-mail, gives out crazy tests that don't coincide with the material taught in class. Let's you choose you own text book and then we don't read it all semester. Doesn't start 'teaching' til 30 minutes into a one hour class. ridiculous.

Her lectures are her reading off the powerpoint. You need to show up for class or you'll get an automatic F in the class. You can miss up to 4 days of class. She assigns 2 papers and one is a group peer reviewed essay the other was extra credit. It gets boring, but she's a nice teacher just don't get caught on your phone. Drops lowest test grade.
She does just read from her powerpoint but if you ask her questions she will go more into depth with it! She's not too hard! As long as you study the powerpoints she posts up you'll do fine! She's also really nice! Just don't text in front of her! Plus, she brings her puppy sometimes so that always made my mornings! & always bring your clicker!
I'm surprised about all the bad ratings. Sure she might "yell", but she even said that she does this to make sure that everyone hears her and she doesn't mean anything bad by it. She wants to help you and make sure that you do the labs correctly. Terrye is really nice and she is always willing to help. Just do the reading and ask questions.
As long as you study for the tests it is an easy class. It is basic biology. Make sure that you are on time though because she doesn't like students walking in during lectures. Sometimes if you are late you can't take the exam or turn in the writing assignment. There were two research essays we had to write which were very easy.
Okay, this class isn't hard but when it comes to tests THEN it gets hard. Its not even worth it going to class because she spends more than half the time talking about her life and just reads off the powerpoint the entire time. She takes FOREVER to start class. Isn't clear about many things. You basically teach yourself.

This class is joke. No one ever shows up to class and if they do they're just on their phones or messing around not paying attention I honestly regret taking bio with her worst experience ever.
Do not take this class, it's so awful. She does not guide you at all, it's basically self taught, the exams start off easy going but after the first one she shoves 3 chapters into one exam, no study guides at all, you don't even have to go to class. 2 research essays needed to pass, lectures are so dry you will fall asleep. I did not learn anything in this class! Sure professor Light is a good person and she tries to be funny during class. But she's always late and unprepared. She just reads off the powerpoint and you don't even have enough time to write down notes. I had to teach myself. Tests get harder and there are no study guides. Do not take this class!
This class was really easy. IN the beginning of the semester she'll tell you that you need to have a clicker but we only used it once. I barely went to class because she often gets of topic and we end up talking about something else. Take it if you want an easy A.
Disorganized and a tad wacky. Not very clear on how assignments are graded but besides that it is an easy A. just make sure to do the chapter questions and turn them in on time. The course material is very basic. classes are pointless and off topic and be ready for iclicker questions. Best part is when she brings her dog to class.
She's very intimidating and will embarrass someone every other week, but it is nothing personal. Make sure you read the lab manual before the lab, and ask clarifications in class so you don't make huge mistakes. She will yell if you talk while she's speaking. Do not take if you can't handle pressure or being put on the spot to answer questions.

Terrye Light is a poor excuse of a professor. She treats the class as if we are elementary school children and calls us kindergarteners. She constantly raises her voice in anger for no reason. She threatens to take points off of papers and tests if we do not turn them in in a specific way. She claims attendance is mandatory but never takes roll.
Terry was a little bit unorganized. She does not give you study guides for test, so you have to read out of the book, and if you don't you definitely will not get a good grade on ur tests. 2 papers fairly easy but she tells you a week before they are due what they're about. If you don't do them your not going to pass. Wasn't as bad just read.
I had her last semester for Bio 100 and this semester for Bio 211 and enjoyed both times having her. She can be intimidating at first, however you honestly just need to warm up to her. I would try to talk to her after class multiple times to get my grade up but she was very rude and unhelpful. You're basically learning by yourself and from the textbook. Tests were so hard, does pop quizzes sometimes. Dependent on iclicker for quizzes and attendance. I do not recommend taking this class, it is confusing and difficult.
Class was okay. The professor mostly read off slides but was able to give good explanations for some parts. She would arrive late to class at times or be behind in getting started. The exams are all multiple choice with each exam being 50 questions and the final being 100 questions so get ready to learn and study for those exams.

Most of the time she wouldn't know how to operate the powerpoint, she'd have difficulties with the projector system which caused the lecture to start late. Goes through powerpoints very quickly, you barely have time to write notes. Only good thing is she started being nicer towards the semester since most students weren't passing. Only 2 papers.
Teacher engages students in class by asking questions and calling on students. If you attend class, read ahead you have no problems. Don't be late or be on your phone. She hates that. Always was available to help me outside of class. Class was interesting because she used real life experiences to relate the material. She was also very funny.
Overall, she was a fun professor to have and I learned a lot of materials form this lab. Read the Lab manual carefully and beware of pop quizzes, I would have got an A but a B+ isn't so bad, there are 6 quizzes (I averaged a D+, which screwed me over.) and a final in this course, she'll drop your lowest quiz grade. I'm damn proud of my B+.

you really have to read the book in order to pass this class. She was decent, not as BAD as people make it seem. Almost impossible to fail if you READ the book and STUDY. She wasn't the best with teaching, but it is do-able.
Terrye is a decent professor, but you have to go to class. If you want to pass, read the book and pay attention to what she says in class because she slips things into her lectures that will be on the test. She sometimes isn't clear in what she says but just go to office hours. All that aside she is an amazing and caring person.

She's very tough but once you warm up to her she is very caring and nice. No study guides are given for the quizzes (at least not in my semester) so you have to rely on the manual a lot. She will get angry and scream if you are fooling around in the lab or just aren't paying attention to her. Don't be afraid to ask her for help.

Expects perfect attendance and punctuality, but is late 30 minutes to 50 minute lectures and once sent the TA to distribute a test because she was "tired." Guess what Terrye, I'm tired too, but I still showed up didn't I? If you ask her a question, prepare for a screaming match. She's so deaf she thought a passing skateboard was an airplane. Hate.
I took Terrye over the summer and felt a bit scared, because of the ratings people have given to her. It is not hard to pass if you just study the criteria everyday and go over the main points she teaches, because she gives pop quizzes. Come to her class prepared and know the criteria she taught the day before.
Okay, so her reviews are not the best but, SHE IS NOT THAT BAD. She lectures heavy but if you read the textbook YOU WILL PASS, the tests are not hard if you read the book and it's like the practice test the back and you can find the test questions online after. She gives extra credit, there's maybe 3/4 tests and 2 papers that are straight forward.
Don't be scared to take her class. I will tell you if you want to pass the class you have to read the book, but the tests are really straight forward and not difficult, multiple choice so just choose logically. there's 2 papers that ARE EASY just follow the instructions, it's straight forward. extra credit and she's actually funny.

Light goes off on tangents quite often, very hard to pay attention. But on the other hand, she's a caring woman. Test are straight forward but you HAVE to pay attention in class or you won't get anything. When no one shows up to class she WILL give pop quizzes for extra cred, even for showing up. Feel free to ask questions and gohome& review slides
She's a good person but a bad teacher. Very picky + specific when grading so make sure u follow EXACTLY what she wants. Says she's approachable but idk, something about her scares a lot of us. She lightens up towards the end + gave us basically bs tests (cuz we had help from peers or used the internet for 2 of them). Lecture heavy and boring af
Terrye comes off as harsh or rude or even mean the first time you meet her, but if you are following along with lectures and readings and listening to what she wants from you, you will do well. Develop a relationship with her for the best chance of getting a good grade. Took her over summer.
Light is condescending, close minded, and unclear about her wants from her students. She expects all students understand the material right away, even though this class is for non majors... She berates her students, and clicks so quickly through her slides that the class never gets to take the full notes. She also expects perfection on all papers.
Ms. Light may be a bit intimidating at first but that's just how she is. She's very caring and understanding, but she doesn't take any attitude from no one! She goes back to re-teach things that weren't clear. However make sure you're reading the material, like the textbook since somethings directly from there are on the test sometimes.
Don't expect to learn much though because her lectures are very boring and unorganized. She goes off on a lot of tangents about unrelated topics or things that are on tests. She does not provide study guides. I think she's a good person, but she needs to work on how she communicates with students. She comes off as discouraging and unapproachable.
She is short tempered, snaps at students in class. Has unclear grading criteria & assigns many assignments at the very last minute. Took her over the summer 2020 for both lect and lab on zoom and she doesn't really know how to navigate it so was very unprepared. Lecture is very easy attendance isn't mandatory. Lab was just a MESS DON'T TAKE HER.
TERRIBLE. tells you to ask questions, then screams at you for it and doesnt answer them anyways. does that answer that? probably not, anyways... is her motto. goes off on subjects, doesn't know what shes doing, and her quizzes have 15 mins and 1 attempt on SUBJECTS YOU HAVE TO BASICALLY TEACH YOURSELF. ALL IN MY CLASS ARE LOST.
im only about 3 months into this class and nobody feels like they are learning anything. all her quizzes and exams are easy if you teach urself the presentation. she has no respect for students and has a big attitude. i've given up on attending her classes and now i just wait until she posts the slides for each chapter to study them, terrible prof
Really disrespectful, unorganized and makes her students feel stupid. You have to self teach yourself. Always 10min late, this 50min class turned to a 40min class. She assigned an exam and quiz without giving us a heads up first. The 2nd exam she assigned was originally an hour but she gave us pity and gave us 2 hours. Super over it.
Very unorganized. She will not hesitate to call you out in class and gets mad when you don't know the answer. She doesn't follow the syllabus and cancels class frequently as well as shows up late.
Horrible, a terror to have, will constantly get angry and undermine situation. Ignores emails. Ignores help. Forgetful. Just bad. Save yourself.
Do not take this class. Her class is very unorganized and she has very low patience. She assigns work without letting us know as well as all of her quizzes. Horrible attitude and does not get encourage true learning. Asking her questions is also horrible because she will snap at you. Overall the worst class and teacher I have had.
Terrye is a mess. The iLearn page is a nightmare to navigate and sometimes she posts assignments/quizzes without a word. Also takes her anger on her students when they can't answer her questions or when they are late even though she comes 5-10 min late to class herself. Is an easy grader and accepts late work but the mental trauma is not worth it.
