Professor Jordan was phenomenal! I had her for my 8 AM and though that sounds treacherous, she was awesome. Even early in the morning she kept it light and upbeat. She presents off a powerpoint but throws in real examples and draws helpful diagrams on the board. I highly recommend her and personally would love to take her class again!
Professor Jordan was always so enthusiastic about psychology and teaching it to students! Every day she was in a great mood and highly motivated to teach! Her lectures were very easy to follow and she was very clear on subject matter as well as what to expect for the tests.
This was Professor Jordan's first semester at Grand Valley and she rocked it! He class was so interesting and she made it so much fun (even though I had this class at 8am). The tests are easy if you study and make sure you get a textbook! She gives 2 study guides and those are super helpful. One is over lecture notes and the other is of the book.
Buy the textbook, there's a "textbook study guide" for all the tests, which you don't go over in class. Very willing to meet outside of class. Uses many hands-on and visual examples to explain concepts. Thorough teaching style, and teaches you exactly what you will be tested on. I would highly recommend her!
Professor Jordan is and was one of the best professors I have taken at GVSU. Every class period she has a smile and is ready teach, regardless of what mood she may be in. She truly knows her material over psychology and inspired my to pursue my psychology degree even further with developmental research. Show up, take notes, get an A. Great class!
If you have the chance to have her, take the opportunity. I always looked forward to this class, she made it very interesting and relatable.
I usually hate 9am's but I enjoyed going to this class. She is very sweet and really makes sure you understand the material. The class is super interesting. Exams are easy if you do the review she gives you, there is textbook material on the exams but she tells you exactly what to read. if you are gonna take the class, TAKE IT WITH HER.
Loved this professor! She's very smart and explains topics very well! She's there if you ever need any extra help. Make sure you go to class. She does random in class assignments worth 5 points and they add up!
AMAZING. Prof. Jordan is VERY passionate about her subject, and I think that is what makes the class more exciting. If you are confused or need more examples, say something during class and she will definitely help you. She's pretty tough on grading papers, but if you go to her during her office hours she has your back.
Super easy class, great professor. Would definitely recommend.
Great Professor, super passionate and explains the material well. Tough grader when it comes to the writing assignments. You might think you did well but end up getting a low grade. GO TO CLASS, even if you miss one in class assignment that will drop your grade SUBSTANTIALLY. I missed one in class assgnmnt with As on all tests and it hurt my grade
Jordan is literally one of the best psych profs I've ever had. Her lectures are handouts with fill in the blanks, and even though class isn't mandatory she does random videos where you have to write a response for points. If you don't go, you can't get those points back. There were only 3 HW assignments which were pretty easy and she's super nice.
She is awesome! Amazing at explaining things! Tests are easy as long as you study! Take her!!!
GREAT PROF! But.. very little points offered in the class making it crucial to dell well on all assignments. 3-4 papers (tough grader but if you go to office hours its a big help!!!), random in class assignments worth 5 pts. 4 exams including the final that is not cumulative. Tests are not too bad. Awesome class one of the best profs!
Prof Jordan is who you want for this course. She gives outlines for lectures and study guides which directly correlate to the exam. Make sure to talk to her about the 3 hw assignments, she will give you good feedback. Great classroom energy and cares about her students. Show up, take notes, fill out the study guide and you will get an A.
I literally cannot say enough good things about Tessa! She always made lectures super fun and engaging and she's really relatable. She gives lecture and textbook study guides for each exam so you know exactly what you need to know, and she gives great feedback on the three homework assignments (short papers.) Take her!!
Tessa was my first professor, and so far she is hands down my favorite. She'll make you want to come to class because she is engaging, hilarious, passionate about teaching, and personable. You will do well in her class if you regularly attend, pay attention and take notes, do the study guides, and just genuinely enjoy learning about psychology! :)
Awesome Professor! She is very passionate about Psychology, and gives good examples to make the information 'stick' and more interesting. Tests weren't too difficult, but each test is 23% of your final grade, so if you do bad on one it is sort of difficult to make up for it. Very helpful. Highly recommend her.
Tessa is an amazing professor. She really does care about her students, and wants you to do well. She's extremely clear about what is expected of you, which is super nice. You have to come to lecture and study the notes, but you're going to do well if you put effort in. No cumulative final, and she gives completely comprehensive study guides.
Tessa is a very kind and approachable professor. The tests were very difficult but if you do well on the papers and quizzes still very attainable. Provides special treatment for those who go to office hours.
Tessa is a wonderful professor who cares about her students and is passionate about what she is teaching. Child development is an interesting class, if you take PSY 364 prior you will be much more prepared for the material. Grades are based off of 5 "pop" writing assignments that are in class (basically participation points) 3 exams and one paper
She's one of my favorite professors I've taken. Her lectures keep you engaged and are presented in a way that is easy to follow. She gives many examples and her study guides help you to prepare for what will be on the exams. Definitely recommend taking
Tessa's a dorky & fun prof! Grade based on 3 exams (45 q's/90pts), some short reflection papers, and random participation points. Application based questions from lecture slides and textbook reading. Provides study guide. Strictly does not curve! Was <1% from an A and she wouldn't round. Every point literally matters in this class.
She teaches very well but when it comes to exams... good luck
Tessa is a great prof who cares about her students. She wants her students to learn the material thoroughly. Exams are difficult, I never got higher than a B+ on them. Fairly large project w big paper at the end (mine was 26pgs). Random in class assignments for easy points. I worked hard & ended with an A-. I definitely learned a lot in this class.
She may teach great stuff, but she would confuse herself at times especially the lecture before exams which confused students. Grade is exam dependent. Every point matters. Because of one point, I did not receive an A. Good luck with her exams, she does not curve or give points back.
This class was challenging and required a decent amount of study time. Jordan doesnt make the class easy, but the class is still enjoyable. She makes the information clear and concise. She's also very nice and knowledgeable.
Tessa is a very engaging professor, and her lectures are awesome. Super easy to learn from, as long as you go to class and take notes you will do great in her class. Only 5 homework assignments for the whole semester, and 4 exams (no final or midterm). Exams aren't too hard, you need to just put the bare minimum effort into studying. Take her!
Tessa is an enthusiastic and engaging professor, and organizes the material in a way that is understandable for her students. Unfortunately the grade for this course is based on only 3 exams, a paper, and a few in-class assignments. The only complaint I have is Tessa does not provide 'example' exam questions, which make her exams reasonably tough.
Tessa is an amazing professor! Her lectures are very beneficial and she provides real-life examples to fully understand the material. There are 5 random in-class group assignments, 5 homework papers (very easy), and 4 exams (including the final). Exams are hard yet if you take detailed notes you will do well.
You can tell that Tessa is passionate about her subject. I thoroughly enjoyed her lectures. Her exams are hard but not impossible. I enjoyed this class even though it wasn't the easiest class I've ever taken. Her deadlines are also very strict. If it isn't on her desk by the beginning of class, you get a 0.
Tessa brings a lot of energy to her lectures. She can move a bit fast at times, but will go back if she needs to re-explain anything. Not a lot of homework, exams are difficult (all MC) if you do not prep for them. Textbook is really helpful for exams! 10/10 recommend Tessa for this class.
Jordan is a great professor. The material can be hard and confusing at times but she is always available if extra help is needed. This class is centered on 3 exams and 1 paper. You must attend every class to receive all of the material. Exams were fairly hard but not unbearable if prepared for properly.
I loved professor Jordan. She is really nice and really cares about her students. You do have to attend each class because she provides very detailed examples which helps you learn. The exams are really straightforward as long as you study your notes and understand them + she provides reviews. 10/10 would recommend this professor!
I loved Tessa! Lectures were always interesting and she was clearly passionate about what she was teaching. Tests were difficult, studying is definitely recommended. One final paper that sounds scary but is interesting and pretty simple, plus online assignments. Overall a great class! My favorite class so far at GV and I'm a junior.
Tessa can come off as intimidating but is the most genuine prof I've had. She made lectures fun and cracked jokes. You have to write a 15-page paper at the end of the semester but you have all the info, you just have to turn it into a paper. Weekly online reading questions, very easy. You can skip but may miss in-class assignments. Take her!
10/10 loved Tessa. You can tell how passionated and enthusiastic she is about what she teaches; and she's good at it too. She makes you think. Her explanations are always clear and if you don't understand, she will keep explaining it (in different ways) until you do. She cares about about her students' success.
She cares SO much. I loved her lectures (all fill in the blank). If you show up, take detailed notes, and study a few days before the exam, this class is not bad at all. You just have to put in effort or else you won't get an A; she is very clear about this. Info has a tremendous amount of details which was the hardest part. Would highly recommend.
Tessa is an AMAZING professor. I did well in the class, and actually learned quite a bit. Her lectures are amazing, and is always open to questions and clarifications. She can be scatterbrained, but is still very effective in teaching. Come to class because she has in class assignments. Her exams can be tough but work ahead on the study guide.
Tessa is a great professor and it's clear how passionate she is about psychology which makes her students excited to learn. but her exams were very difficult for me and I studied super hard for them. I struggled because as an online class, i felt as if my test scores weren't really showing her what i learned or how hard i worked. keep this in mind!
I took PSY 301 as an online asynchronous class with Tessa, and it was difficult but worth it. She had about 3 hours worth of lecture videos each week, along with an hour long assignment and a reading assignment, so it was definitely a lot of time and effort, but if you do the homework and study well for the exams, you'll do just fine in the class.
Tessa knows her stuff. She explains what is expected of you very well. Study hard for the exams and you will be fine. I would love to take her again if I could. You can get an A in her class, but it is not easy. Loved her as person. You could tell that she really cares about her students. Take her if you can, you won't regret it.
Overall a good professor. She's good at explaining and providing examples. Exams are mostly application questions, know her study guides well. There are three exams, weekly Connect assignments (usually quick) and a separate weekly written assignment.
Tessa is a good professor but you have to work hard. She is well organized and the weekly expectations were always clear. The tests were hard but I was still able to get As on them with a lot of studying. Her weekly lecture review guides were helpful. She hardly ever emails and doesn't provide feedback at all so it feels a bit impersonal.
Tessa is the most amazing professor at GVSU. She truly cares so much about the success of her students. She wants you to learn and ultimately be confident in your skills as a student. Highly recommend reaching out when you have questions and to go over exams. So sweet and bubbly, makes class interesting and fun even online!
I loved the homework assignments she had us do. They were never boring and allowed us to learn more in a real-world sense regarding the material she covered in the lectures. Clear lectures and was very knowledgeable about the material. She definitely knows her stuff. Wish I could take another one of her classes that wasn't online. TAKE HER!!!
Tessa is a great professor, but her exams were very difficult. We had an assignment every week with some reading assignments as well, and three exams. She is very nice and very helpful, but I felt like I couldnt show her everything I learned because her exams were that hard. Overall, pretty good class!
Tessa was a great professor. Lecture recordings were broken up and were very clear. Assignments applied class material very well, and assigned work was never too overwhelming. She's very accessible. Only downside: tests were tricky and were the majority of the final grade.
Dont take her. Not understanding or empathetic.
Professor Jordan was so fun! I normally get bored of lectures but her's were so interesting and engaging. She is also very understanding and would accept late work on certain occasions. Exams are a big chunk of your grade so study hard and you'll do great!
I studied and felt confident with knowing the material. She expects you to know every little detail from all the notes. I never got above a C and you can't go back to review which questions you got wrong, even though there were repeat questions on the final. The amount of material each week and on exams were ridiculous. Online is not the way to go!
Professor Jordan is not sympathetic whatsoever. Her exams are ridiculous and there's no room for error. I studied religously for this course and final grade does not show how hard I worked and she refused to round my .5% to recieve a B-. Very disappointed, won't ever take again.
Prof Jordan is an amazing person and makes her lectures very engaging. She wants her students to succeed and is very helpful. I strongly suggest going to lectures because they help you grasp the material and do well on exams. I thought this class was super interesting. I really enjoy her enthusiasm, and shes a great choice.
There are a lot of weekly assignments, but they are not very difficult. Her lecture videos are split up so that you do not get bored watching a 45 minute lecture video, and they are very informative. There are 3 exams, but she gives study guides that cover the majority of it. She is very knowledgable about child development and it shows.
Lectures were very well thought out, and you can tell she really cares about what she's teaching. However, some of the lectures were dragged on a little. Assignments that take hours are only worth 5 points and connect assignments worth 1-2, so beware that if you fail the exams, you fail the class. Exams are comprehension based and lockdown browser.
Prof Jordan is an amazing professor and even though it was an online class I learned so much. Every week there are lectures and some homework. There are 2 exams and a final. The exams weren't too hard but definitely study for them and understand the material in order to apply it to situations. Great lectures and a great professor.
The exams are definitely very difficult. I would highly suggest to start studying at least a week early and filling out the study guides she gives. She is very nice and helpful, but it is not an easy class by any means. I ended up doing very well on the final and it boosted my grade, but got a wake up call after first exam.
Professor Jordan is amazing. I would take her for all my classes if I could. Her lectures are very clear and easy to understand. Three exams that can be difficult, you just need to study hard. There is also a 15 page paper where you have to interview a kid. It sounds harder than it is, she walks you through every step. Weekly connect assignments.
Tessa is great! Her class was very easy. She recorded all of her lectures and didn't require attendance. There are weekly completion-graded assignments that are very easy. There are 3 exams and she provides a clear study guide for all. There is a big paper, but it is easy. Her lectures are fun and she makes everything interesting and relevant.
She does not give good study guides and her tests are nothing like them either. You have to be a really good guesser for the exams. Her lectures were hours long and boring. The busy work is easy but the exams tanked my grade. I had 40 pages of notes. Avoid.
Professor Jordan is amazing, but I do not recommend if you are bad with exams/get testing anxiety. Your grade is determined by how well you do on the exams. I had 100% on every homework assignment, did bad on exams and my grade was low.
She was awful! I took her online course and it was impossible. Everything is based on exams. The exams are impossible to do well on and she is not good at communicating. I would avoid at all costs. I would never take her again. I have a 4.0 and she is the reason my grade dropped. EVERYTHING is based off exams and they are all locked down. AVOID
I took this class asynchronously and it wasn't that bad by any means. I'm not sure why there are so many negative experiences for Tessa. I always completed the weekly homework assignments and would watch the lectures the day before the exam. Only 3 exams so make sure to study. Last exam I rushed and it bumped by A down to a B+. My fault tho.
extremely heavy material for an asynchronous class, lectures were split up but still could b a couple hrs per week on top of the hw assignment, which werent bad but a two page paper was only worth like 5 points each. ur grade is determined by 3 exams which i found them to b challenging, i would study a week in advance and could inly get B- on them
I took this class online. Her lectures are clear and interesting. The exams aren't too hard if you study. My only complaint is the cumulative final is 35% of your grade. Do everything she assigns because your final grade is not out of a lot. Overall, she is nice and the material itself was not too difficult. If you do all the work, you'll be fine!
Professor Jordan gives awesome lectures. She explains tough material in a way that makes it easier to understand, with examples reflective of all tests. A fifteen page paper is due at the end of the semester, and she does grade it harshly. However, the paper is based off her lectures so it is not as hard as it might seem. Would take her again.
Professor Jordan is extremely passionate about psychology; however, if you do not share that same passion then the class will be difficult. I had an extremely difficult time engaging in the material she was teaching. The class is completely based on three exams and a final paper. Tests are hard and she is a tough grader.
Very difficult class but great professor. VERY lecture heavy with lots of reading and studying
I took her for a 6wk class over summer, fully online. The total amount of points in the class was 285, and the final exam was 100 of those points (>1/3 the final grade). The other 2 exams in the class were 50 points each. She took long to respond to emails, and was not great when I reached out for help. Would not recommend if you are a DSR student.
I wouldn't say this class is the hardest, however, I wouldn't say it's the easiest either. There are 4 exams all worth 40 points along with a 15 page paper (Yes, I said 15). However, as long as you come to class and study a good amount for the exams you'll be just fine. The paper is based off a project you do, and isn't the hardest surprisingly.
Professor Joran is excellent at teaching developmental psychology. That said, if you're not a good test taker this class isn't for you. Three exams, the final counts for 35% of your grade and is cumulative. This isn't a class you can pass without studying. Her lectures are very informational and not too long. Would take again.
This professor helped me develop my passion for psychology. Her class was so engaging and she made the content extremely easy to understand. She is very passionate about developmental psychology and it shows. Be prepared to dedicate a lot of time to studying for this class. If you put in the effort, this class is extremely rewarding.
I would recommend this class to anyone who is willing to put effort into their grade. Very nice professor. She makes developmental psych fun. Take it with a different prof if you want an easy A. You'll learn so much in psy 364 if you put the effort in. Would take her again.
All I have to say is wtf was this class. Very hard even after putting in hours of work. Homework is each only worth 1 point even though it took a long time to do. Very exam and final heavy.
I learned so much in this class. Usually when a teacher is lecturing I struggle to retain the information but when Professor Jordan was teaching I learned so much from her. She was an amazing teacher!
I'm not a psych student, this class was required for my major. I loved Tessa, she's a really nice person and is always willing to help me out with exam content or the big paper at the end of the semester. It is pretty lecture and content heavy, so a lot of studying is required, and the tests aren't too hard if you know the material pretty well.
If you want to write a 15 page paper take her class. Her lectures were good and she was a nice person but her exams were on lockdown and this long paper was difficult.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE DR. JORDAN. There is 2 pts ec for each test, attendance isn't mandatory necessarily but highly encourage going or you will miss vital information and you get credit for going, take notes along side of lecture slides, and tere is a 15 pg essay but very easy and not as scary once she explains it. 10/10.
Fantastic professor, and one of my favorites at GVSU. Cannot speak highly enough about the very engaging lectures which go by so fast. She is on top of every aspect of her class and wants you to succeed. Absolutely love her and the material she presents.
I LOVED this professor. her lecture are very interesting and her homework is credit no credit based on the reading. her tests are heavy and on paper but not terrible. there is also a 15 page paper at the end of the semester but she sets you up for success and its pretty easy. participation points on Tuesday and some Thursdays.
I'm an A student but got a low grade in this class because it had so much busy work and if you didn't do things exactly like she wanted you didn't get full credit. Waste of time.
Very difficult course to be done online.
Truly passionate about what she teaches. Lectures can be a bit dry at times, but overall a great professor and person!
Professor Jordan clearly cares a lot about her students and wants them to succeed. I really enjoyed her developmental psych classes. I would take her again if I could. 100% recommend taking her! She is so nice!
I dont know why so many people like this class. It was not fun. I learned nothing. And the teacher only cared about people who are going in to this line of work. Don't use this as your psych elective.
Tessa is an amazing teacher. She has so much passion for child dev psychology and it is so fun seeing her excited about each lecture. As long as you pay attention and keep up with the readings/quizzes, and quiz yourself throughout the unit, you will be fine. She makes me even more excited to learn more about child development.
Tessa is a kind, caring, passionate prof! The exams are straightforward, attendance is an easy extra 50 points, but on the paper, she refuses to give full credit. She marks down on random stuff, but does not leave any feedback on why you lost a fraction of a point. Otherwise loved her class; her grading is just harsh with no comments to back it up.
The majority of your grade will be 3 exams and a paper due at the end of the semester. Professor Jordan was very engaging with her class during lectures, which made class entertaining! Short homework assignments every week and attendance points given randomly via sign-in sheet. If you go to class and pay attention, you will do well!
If you miss one of Tessa's classes, you have the potential to miss a lot that could be vital for exams. Her exams are about what she discusses during lecture, not what are on her lecture slides. It is very hard to study for her exams. Even the study guides she gives to study do not reflect her exams well.
