First year teacher (2005), and soo much fun! He's young, full of energy, plays music at teh beginning of class, a really cool guy!
Awesome. He knows his stuff and makes classes fun. His assignments are very clear and aren't very hard. His tests aren't that bad either, if you stay caught up. He's a great teacher, get him if you can!!
I LOVE Thad! He's an awesome professor...Not hard, very clear, and cares about what's going on with his students. I think he actually cares more about how your life is going than your grades in class, because he will ALWAYS ask how everyone is doing. Plus, I could not ask for a more fun class. DEFINITELY take him!
Thad is my favorite teacher!! He is so nice and really funny!! He makes class as laid back as possible and it makes public speaking a lot easier. As long as you go to class you will find this class really easy, interesting, and fun!
Steelers fan, liberal, meh
thad's the man.
he is awesome, caring, funny, and always wants to know what's up with everyone. the class is easy too, as long as you come, and you'll want to! he's just really easy going and i was lucky to have him. take him if you can, you'll be glad you did!
Thad is totally the man... he rocks!! Best prof. I've had so far. Definitely take his class!!
Nice, laid back Plays music at the beginning of class. Study the notes he gives for the tests and you should do well on them. He's funny, young, and don't worry about reading for class, because he won't quiz you. Just skim the chap. so you can add a little to the discussions. Try the resource center in Wilson for speeches- may give you extra credit
Thad is a good guy. He really cares about his students. The class is pretty easy for the most part, if you go to class and get his worksheets, youll do good on the tests. Tests are M.C only, and not THAT difficult. If your taking group presentations, take herron
This man is one of the best professors at JMU. He honestly cares about his students and is one of the most down to earth people i've met. Great personality, keeps the class interesting and will cheer up your day. Thad is the way to go.
He's a really nice guy who actually does care about the students. Any class you have to take that he's offered as a professor, you should definately try to get him! he's awesome!
love this guy! definately my favorite teacher so far...he cares a lot about his students and always makes what he's teaching interesting...its the one class i actually look forward to going to! DEFINATELY take it!
great group presentations teacher! really helpful and really wants you to do well. very funny and YOUNG, understands what it's like to be a college student.
Thad is the guy to have if you need to take GCOM but want to pretty much slack off b/c you've got other important things to do (but still you do work on a sustainable level). Awesome, friendly guy, loves students and really down-to-earth. TAKE HIM by all means!!
Thad is hands down my favorite teacher of my freshman year. He is nice, socialable, truly funny (a rarity in professors), and just all around laid back outlook on life. His class is a nice challenge and requires modest work, but its not overwhelming, and he makes you want to go to class. There's no excuse why you shouldn't love his many stories.
Thad rules, no doubt. If you read the chapters, take some notes & use his PPTs to compare there is no way you wont get an A on all your tests. Group presentations arn't too bad, and class is ALWAYS fun. Thad truely cares about his students & his class reflects his commitment to them. TAKE HIM FOR GCOM!!!!
Thad is a great teacher. He really knows what he's talking about. Take Thad for GCOM...two group speeches and a couple of tests/quizzes. Really easy!
He' is a pretty chill guy, there is an attendance policy though. If you keep up with the reading and take notes on his power points you should get an A or a B. THere are two speeches and random quizes and tests. Not too bad. As far as GCOM teachers go, take him
Thad is a very nice guy. down to earth and cares about his students. take good notes and listen in class. a couple tests and quizzes. 2 group speechs...you choose the groups. some extra credit. attendance policy, but isn't a boring class. makes lessons fun and involved. take home tests. no reason you shouldn't do good. You will love him!
This class is relatively easy if you don't get screwed over by a bad group for your two speeches. He was a great teacher and very funny. This class makes me hate group work, so make sure you like your group and practice your speeches ahead of time. Believe me, he knows!
THAD IS THE BEST PROFESSOR HERE! He is just a great prof that loves to tell funny stories inbetween not-so-fun lectures. Tests are easy and contain exactly what we go over in class. Speeches are easy too and he allows more than enough time to practice. I honestly couldn't picture taking gcom 123 with any other professor. TAKE THAD FOR GCOM 123!!!!!
He is by far the best professor at JMU. His classes are dynamic, and intersting. We spent a lot of time taliking about of random****. He lectures for half an hour and then we just talk. There are only two big presentations. Then small assigment that aren't hard at all. It doesn't required that much to work to ace the class, and you will have fun.
Amazing Class!!!
REALLY NICE PROF. but he doesn't prepare you for the GCOM final very well. In the end I got a B in the class b/c the final was so hard. He cares a lot about his students though. Class is boring, but he tries. Can only miss up to 4 classes. A few tests and 2 speeches.
He is very helpful when you have questions about the material and you can tell he loves teaching. If you pay attention in class, you'll do fine. He tries to make it interesting my adding discussions to the lectures... so participate!
Thad makes class so interesting! He is really helpful and approachable. He doesn't over complicate things and relates to his students. People don't want to miss class. If you get the chance definitely take him!!!!
it's a good time
Thad is a great professor. He's young, so he relates to his students well. The material can get boring at times but he knows that and tries to make it interesting. You'll definitely want to go to class. TAKE HIM!
easy A. take him. he's a cool dude and his tests are pretty easy. had him last year and pretty much everyone wanted to come to class.
This was my favorite class this semester. I wanted to go to class everyday because it was so much fun. We get in to some great discussions. He is young and you will love him! Easy class if you dont completly freak out on presentations...cancels class before breaks and gives some take home tests. Class was a breeze and was totally fun.
Good class and professor is a nice guy that cares about students. Does take attendance each day. Overall, its a good class to take to learn the basics of communications and to get a good grade.
Thad is really energetic and he's really easy to talk to! He always tries to get the class engaged and his instructions are really clear. If you don't miss a class the whole semester he gives you extra credit! Obviously there is a lot of group work though so it takes some time but overall a good class and easy A(-)!
Mr. T-Herr is definantly a teacher you will remember for his passion to teach, extremely friendly persona and overall teaching and making sure the material is INTERESTING. He makes class enjoyable and this in turn, makes you WANT to come to class not only to learn, but to enjoy his outgoing personality.
Thad is an amazing teacher. He is undoubtedly here for his students and loves the work he does. Several quizzes, but theyre easy, two speeches, and three exams including the final. if you pay attention its an easy A/B class. Definitely take Thad!!
Thad is a wonderful teacher. I wish he could teach all of my classes. Go to class, his notes are whats on the quizes, but not always you still have to read but they aren't hard! The lowest grade I've gotten on anything in his class is a B. I would highly suggest taking this class. You won't regret it!
Thad is a must take. I learned so much from his class this semester. He has great stories about his life and he just makes you want to come to class. There are quizes every now and then but are a breaze. If you dont take Herron you are missing out on the JMU experience. Great guy and great class.(2 speeches, 2 tests, final, quizes, HM = easy A)
Thad is an incredible professor and such a great guy! He really wants to get to know his students and really takes time to care! Attendance on point basis some textbook use pretty basic quizes and reasonable tests...if taking GCOM Thad is the professor to have!!!!!
Thad is probably the coolest guy you'll ever meet - professor or otherwise. He's really young, like 29 or something as of 2008. He makes lectures interesting. Only a few presentations. Test are sooooo easy. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. The notes are simple and the tests are word from word from the notes. Easy A.
Thad is awesome! He engaged the class in great discussion every single day, and I always looked forward to attending. Super easy A!
Inappropriate.
Very clear and respectful toward his students. You could tell he loved his job so you liked the class.
He does take attendance but you are allowed to miss 3 classes. He is so nice, really understanding. He is young and very nice. As long as you don't text, he is fine. Take good notes; tests are basically right from the notes. Best GenEd class!!!
Very Good Teacher, Would highly recommend!
awesome professor. my favorite so far at jmu! he was amazing especially as a first semester freshmen. he really loves interacting with students and really just wants to impact your life in a positive way. material is very easy if you study.
Thad loves his job. He loves his students and really wants to impact their lives. He says that he knows if he does not want to be in class, you will not want to be in class. Very interactive teacher, and clear with what he is teaching. He wants us to feel good about our speeches and will do anything for us to do so. His grading is extremely fair.
I really enjoyed it, he always kept the lessons interesting.
Thad is awesome! He keeps lessons really interesting and applies them to real life, you get to share a lot of personal experiences which is always fun. Young, laid back, nice guy. I would recommend for gcom!
The class is really fun and Thad is mad chill. I would definitely recommend it.
Take this! Thad is so chill. By far my favorite class this semester. Half the time we just end up having class discussions about random stuff. He is a fair grader and always willing to meet with you if you need help. There are 3 speeches, a midterm, and a final, which are all easy. Awsome guy!
Thad is the best teacher I had all semester! The class was interesting and fun because he made it that way! There is a fair amount of work, but Thad is also a really fair grader! Take this class if you can!
Thad is cool and also a really good teacher. I had him frosh year which sparked my interest in Comm but I realized how good of a teacher he was when he covered Amiee Brickner's SCOM Interpersonal Comm class. Talking about the SAME material he was far more engaging, got students considerably more involved and interested about the topic. Take him.
Not even a question at all. Take individual GCOM with Thad. All the GCOM professors at JMU are pretty good, but honestly Thad is the best. He is nice, fun, understanding, easy, clear, and funny. Take his class.
Thad is a great teacher. Very friendly and not a hard grader. He really does make you want to come to class because its a fun environment. I would definitely try to get Thad.
Thad is an easy teacher, but a closet tool. Was it weird that he mocked past students during class? Speeches are graded better if you just read off notecards and have good format. Compliment him often. NoTextbook.take Porky the Pig!
Thad, as he likes to be called, is young and fun teacher. The class is the definition of chill and as long as you don't totally bomb your speeches you'll be fine. I'd recommend taking him as the class was enjoyable and easy.
best prof ive had at jmu. helpful. cool. funny. hard working. take him
Thad is a very nice professor and was always excited for class! His grading was relatively easy but unclear until you found out the grade. He didn't really help prepare for the GCOM final but I don't think any other GCOM classes did as well. I'd recommend him though, he's very helpful and nice!
He's a good guy and an easy grader. I think he tries a little too hard to relate to students and be one of those teachers who you'll always remember, but he's still one of the nicer profs I've ever had by far. Didn't love him talking about the springfest incident, but at least he gave us a chance to share our opinions. Overall, great guy, take him.
Thad is a great teacher who really cares about his students! He loves communication and teaches it well. Power points in class very clear. Discussions were fun. Test material straight from the book but he highlights what you need to know in class. I got an A.
Firstly, I recommend taking individual GCOM simply because no one likes group work when you're stuck with a bunch of duds. Thad is a really nice guy. He's young and friendly. He grades very kindly. I thought I bombed one of my speeches but still got an A on it. He often went off-topic, but we still managed to learn everything for the final.
He's a nice guy, his notes are straight forward, and his tests are pretty easy. I'd recommend taking him you'll deff get an A or B
He's a really charismatic teacher and he knew what he was talking about. But he can be a little preachy and it seemed to me that he was trying too hard to inspire us and make us never forget Gcom 123. The class material however was very forgettable. I wouldn't recommend group comm. But for the most part I'd recommend Thad!
One of my favorite teachers of all time. He cares about you doing well. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Very very nice teacher. Very interesting and wants to get to know every student personally. He can be unclear in his directions and tends to interrupt student presentations to go off on tangents. But I'd highly recommend him as a gcom teacher.
cool guy but he grades the speeches alot harder than a gcomm teacher should. no group got an A on the first one and I think mine was the only one to get an A on the second. definitely has favorites so dont be a smart mouth
This was not an easy A class as I expected. He grades speeches pretty hard and if you dont do a topic he wants you to do, your grade lowers. He really doesnt teach and his instructions are not clear, so you dont know when do read the material by and when assignments are due.
Thad is a really nice teacher and wants to get to know his students. He loves teaching but does have favorites, so get in a group with them and you will get a good grade. He loves to talk and sometimes interrupts people and go off on tangents but overall a great teacher and I would take a class with him again!
Although he is a great person and extremely easy teacher, I thought going to class was a waste of time and money. He gets his students to teach every chapter through presentations. It's a pretty boring class and the terms are all common sense. I'd take a different professor unless all you care about is getting an easy A or B.
definitely take his class. he's a really great guy, awesome teacher, and the class is super easy. i think he allows like 3 unexcused absences then starts deducting points from your grade or something. but its not like going to class is that painful. it goes by super fast. he doesn't use the book too much but its sorta useful.
AWESOME professor! Lets his students call him Thad. He's really interesting and is super helpful. He always tells us there is never a day where he doesn't want to be in class with us. Only 2 major speeches, content is pretty easy to understand, pop quizzes but only a couple, and multiple choice midterm/final. I would reccomend Thad for sure!
Thad is a great professor, in many ways. he will help when help is needed. very good public speaker easy to take notes tests need to be studied for but are not impossible and he likes getting to know people on a personal level which i love. he offers extra credit and wants the best for you. TAKE HIM!
Thad is a really nice guy and good at teaching but is really cheesy sometimes. But overall a great teacher and will help when asked
Tries way too hard to be young. Thinks he is still a student and it's creepy.
Speeches require a lot of preporation, but quizes and tests are easy. Great teacher. I loved the class.
Thad is really a nice guy. Class is overall pretty easy. Allows 4 or 5 absences no questions asked. 3 major speeches. Can be a little tough on grading but he just wants you to do well. Go to his office hours and he will love you! Study for the final, it's harder than you think it will be.
Cool teacher who eases the freshman transition. He knows the class is bologna, but tries to teach things with humor. I'd recommend him to any student, and he's very friendly when he sees you around campus. He grades group speeches a little tough, but is very understanding if you approach him. Take his class!! (Allows you to miss 3 classes)
Thad is so nice! He has you call him by his frist name, he tells stories often, he talks about his daughter. Overall he is very friendly and passionate about what he's teaching. He is my favorite teacher this year by far. I would recomend him to anyone. I <3 Thad haha
Thad is great. I got a B+ in the class. The GCOM final is difficult for everyone and it definitely hurt my grade. Still, he is a wonderful teacher. Encourage your group to prepare well for the speeches.
TAKE GCOM WITH THAD. Thad was the best professor a freshman could ask for. He really understands what the students go through, and can relate. He knows how to keep class fun and interesting so that you naturally want to go to class. As long as you make an effort to have good communication with your group this IS the best GCOM professor on campus!
Awesome professor who really tries to connect with his students. Makes class fun and worth going to. Probably my favorite class of the semester. Quizzes and exams all multiple choice with a lot of the grade coming from speeches. I would definitely. recommend him.
He is a good professor and cares about students. He grades speeches fairly and not a lot of work. I didn't like communications because the content is boring and the final was SUPER HARD. There is nothing he could've done about it because the department made it but I was not prepared for it at all. The final had NOTHING from the textbook.
Thad is a pretty cool guy, the class is rather easy, but that has a lot to do with his teaching style. Does a good job of relating content in a way you'll remember. 5 skips are allowed throughout the semester, no questions asked. Mid term, final and 3 speeches with a few smaller grades. He's not very good at responding to emails though.
Thad is not a bad person, just a bad professor. Whenever any student asks him a question in class or out of class, he goes around the answer to it and is extremely unclear. He acts way too laid back for the harshness of his speech grades, and he basically had the students teach the entire class. This was by far my least favorite class this semester
Thad is a nice guy but I don't like him that much as a professor. He's a really chill guy but I think he grades harshly on speeches and he's very unhelpful. He doesn't teach at all. I know he has good ratings on here, but I really advise you to pick someone else. There are better ones.
Nice guy. Gets an attitude when he doesn't like you. A little preach-y, but an overall nice guy. Lenient grader with only a few pretty easy speeches. Overall pretty good.
If you want to succeed in this class, do what Thad says to do in his speeches. Go to him for help or the comm. center, he'll give you higher grades for that. Make sure your group prepares well and do not miss any of the small assignments. Easy A
Thad has good intentions but is honestly not that helpful. He put grades up toward the end of the semester and is far to harsh of a grader. His lack of responsibility as a professor made it hard to care for the class. He is such a great guy, not the best professor and not the easiest GCOM class
Thad is a nice guy (he took a liking to me), but I didn't get much out of the class. He talks way too much, he grades insanely hard, and he only gives grades for groups (I had a lot of slackers which is a negative). The class isn't horrible, its passable, but it isn't exciting. If you can tolerate most things, just do it and get it out of the way.
