Strong recommend this professor. very knowledgeable. All his lectures are posted online including notes and such. Homework is due on the day of the exam so you have several weeks to work on them. You have to do absolutely NOTHING to fail this class.
Do not take this Professor. His lectures are hard to follow because he doesn't go by the book AT ALL. His tests are open notes/open book but do not relate to either! He says he high standards but this is an INTRO CLASS not upper level, his grading is horrible, NO CURVE. He takes off points EVERY imperfection! TAKE MY ADVICE DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
Amazing professor one of the best actually he loves to teach and he's great at it. His lectures help you pass the tests so the people who complain are the ones that don't go to class. Overall great professor teaches great and gives you a lot of chances to pass his class if you fail you're just lazy
Do not take him! Yes he goes through every section, yes he posts his notes and summaries online, but there is no way anyone can pass his exams from the notes he gives us, I have had to read and study the textbook because I cannot follow what he's teaching since he cant explain it himself.
Is very unclear about what he expects you to know, is not very helpful in his office, asks you to rely almost entirely on your classmates. never uses the book, and is difficult to understand. does help with quite a bit of extra credit though. i would not take again.
amazing teacher. no way you can fa his class. study, take notes and go to class. you'll be good
I recommend this professor he really cares about his students. Some things are challenging, but it for your own good to make sure you know the material. I got an A in his class by attending his class, doing the homework and reading the assigned chapters before class. If you follow those three things then you will do well in his class.
I took this professor for a hybrid class. The class was very challenging as the exams were based not only on the book but also lectures. However, the good thing is that the professor is very helpful outside of class and he gives many bonus points. If you're willing to study and learn, I would definitely recommend this class.
Great teacher really knows his stuff. You have to come to class to understand the material. He gives plenty of extra credit and ways to help you pass the class.
Great teacher really knows his stuff. You have to come to class to understand the material. He gives plenty of extra credit and ways to help you pass the class. Small language barrier.
Dr. Nguyen is an excellent professor that deeply cares for his students. He simplifies economics via a thorough theoretical/ mathematical analyses. He's brilliant and will always do everything to help his students. I wish all the professors at UHD were like Dr. Nguyen! As with any course, you must work hard! I made a A++ and so can you! :)
Great professor! Study hard and make an A!!
Greatest professor ever!
Took him online. biggest. mistake. ever. Econ is not an easy class, his notes are not clear, He only grades on tests. His tests are very tricky.
Professor Nguyen expects you to thoroughly learn the material in his courses, while at the same time if you don't understand something, he is willing to go out of his way to help you better understand it. His tests are difficult but he allows you to use your notesbooketc. If your goal is learning, he is the prof for you
Professor Nguyen was always very helpful in providing clarity on issues I was having problems understanding. He is almost always available for questions and truly wants the best for his students. Although his tests are hard there are several bonus questions and you can use your notesbook etc. If you goal is to learn, I would recommend this prof.
Taken online, if you have no knowledge of economics do not enroll in this course unless you don't have anything else to do or any other classes! LOTS of studying required, text book required. Tests are tricky. Overall he is there to help if you ask.
Sit closer to the front and his accent is not a problem. Dr. Nguyen does a great job explaining challenging topics and you will do better than pass his class if you apply yourself. You have nothing to worry about if you can pay attention in lecture, learn to interpret graphs and tables and do some basic math. He helps outside of class too.
He cares about the education and students but you need to study to get A very hard.
One of the nicest and funniest Professor's I have ever taken! His tests and homework are hard (though I'm not the best at ECO) but he is a fair grader. If you try you will get credit. He cares about his students and is very helpful and knowledgeable. This was a tough class though I loved attending and never missed! Definitely would take again!
Dr. Nguyen gives really long lectures and it is important to keep up. He goes outside of the textbook for a lot of the symbols he uses and examples that he gives. If you're unclear about something... ASK. He gives HW with 5 tough questions that are due on the day of the tests. Super hard... but passable.
Thai perfectly fits the phrase, "Great guy, but not-so-great teacher." Like many of the previous reviews said, about 34 of the class stray off to the tangents about his life, family, and struggles as a working class immigrant striving for an education. So if you like listening to stories (they get annoying after a while, sorry Thai) take him.
Yes, he LOVES to stray off on tangents about education, life lessons and everything else, but I love this guy as a teacher. I took the summer classes MicroMacro, and received an A. He gives quizzes and extra credit, and if he sees you're really trying, then you have nothing to worry about. Just show him you're eager to learn, and you will be fine.
He is a caring professor but really hard to understand and therefore even if you did stay after class and ask you probably still won't understand. I personally would not recommend unless your just really good at economics or math.
talks about things not related to the class. which is great if you're bored but not so great when you have to take tests and he hasn't covered any of the stuff. I signed up for an economics class not a calculus or a mathematics class. Nicest person possible but not a great professor. Got a B+ but didn't learn a thing.
I am an A student, and I am also fascinated with economics but his class left me feeling confused. You can read the book but it will only help you pass the homework. His tests are extremely difficult and you must know the material backwards and forwards. I personally was not fond of his class and I wouldn't recommend this teacher.
Yes, he loves to go off on tangents about life, but he is a really sweet man who cares about each one of his students and wants them all to do well. I took his summer class and although it was a fast course, I learned a lot. He gave quizzes that gave us bonus points before tests and let us use our best resources of work we have. He's great!
possibly the worst economics teacher on campus though such a nice guy. loves to bring in equations that are not relevant and I'm minoring in math! Nothing he teaches relates to the textbook or the tests. Talks about life, philosophy etc. Homework is a set of problems that were all equations. Ended up helping my classmates.
Great guy but this class is extremely hard, tests are nothing like lecture's or homework. He gives a few extra credit assignments but not recommend unless you really know everything about eco
Wonderful professor! I'm taking him again for ECO 2302.
He is a very good professor! He is very interactive and provides real-world scenarios. He is very knowledgeable and always willing to help. He really wants the best for his students! UHD needs more professors like him!
This class is very informative and the professor shares valuable information. There are many chances to get additional points and he is very caring and fair. As long as you try to do the work then it will work out. I am taking 2302 with him as well.
lectures completely not connected to textbook or course. nice person, but not very helpful when you don't understand something. loves to talk about his life as an immigrant, and all other stuff. Tests completely not related to what is in textbook.
He's not easy, but he's fair. His tests can be tough if you don't understand the material or if you're not prepared, but again, it's fair. It's not a "freebee class" and you will earn your grade. He gives lots of extra credit and he genuinely cares about his students. His class is fun and he gives insights about life in general and learning.
goes off topic a lot, easily distracted from the stuff he's supposed to teach. gives lots of extra credit but still a lot of work. if you like to talk philosophy, he will like you a lot and will be more likely to help you later.
I took his hybrid class and had 2 online exams and the final in person. The assignments were on applia only 10 and he dropped the 2 lowest ones. He had 4 extra credit opportunities. Even though attendance isn't mandatory he notices who shows up and who doesn't. I never understood a single lecture, so I read the book. Final was very hard.
I spent more time with the textbook than with my family when I took his class. Being in class is supposed to clarify things, but he is incomprehensible. NICE guy, but not an effective teacher. I even went to the other eco prof, even though I was not in her class (my bf was in her 2302 class). It's the only reason I managed to pass!
He's a very nice guy, but very incomprehensible, and his lectures are often off-topic. If you want to pass the class, focus on reading the book! The homework is pretty easy, but the final is a nightmare.
I wish someone would tell this prof that we're not in a calculus class. He's super nice and tests are open book, but the whole class is a waste of time. The questions are hard and the open book doesn't help. We learn more about his life as an immigrant than about economics. Would not recommend even though he's a nice person.
Professor Thai is an awesome guy, he replies to email fast, tries to make class fun and you can tell that he actually cares about his students. Tests were fine but final was really hard. You definitely need to work for the grade, he gives extra credit though so that definitely helps
One of the best teachers and Human beings i have come across.
Professor Nguyen is great! He would make fun of you in class, but he make fun of everybody. He truly care about student and always help you out when your in need. If you want an interesting teacher with good quality of works, take him.
This teacher is the best economics teacher to take! He truly helps all students understand the material and is willing to tutor to assure his students pass. I would take Mr. Thai class because he actually cares for his students! Thanks Mr. Thai!!!
totally confusing teacher, goes off track A LOT. But really nice guy. Just not organized or prepared. You won't learn much about economics but you will learn a lot about what life as an immigrant is like.
I have a hard time keeping up with online class material, and if you don't keep up with your work, you will not pass. However, you can always take your grade up by working hard. The professor likes to challenge the students but does not leave you in the dark. Has a lot of resources to make an A. However, you have to dedicate time.
One of the best professors I've taken, professor Nguyen tries to keep economics easy for his students to get the concept right . He has an open door policy while he is in his office as longest you tried solving the problem first. Tests are challenging but as longest you study you will pass, total of 2 tests, 2 quizzes. Would take him again
So-so teacher. Just read the textbook and do the homework (which is time restricted to an hour). He is all over the place. Class is not necessary. Just read the textbook and you'll be fine.
Interesting profesr alert. Although he deviates from the lectures and discusses our human nature and hints of history, he manages to intricately reintroduce economics, and in the form of humor or compassion, he manages to entertain you and inspire you to remain engaged as you really learn; all while staying on schedule with the syllabus. I RECOMEND
Although he is a tough grader, Professor Nguyen makes up for it by giving you feedback. You can contact him at any time, and he gets back to you fairly quickly! He cares about his students. His lectures are as essential as reading the text, I strongly suggest attending. He is fair and understanding! I would take him for other courses.
Professor Nguyen is unique in that he cares and motivates his student wholeheartedly. It's not an easy course, but work hard, and you'll receive what you worked for! All business majors will benefit greatly from taking his class! Overall if you're looking for a supportive professor, he's your guy! Be ready to learn, and retain it!
Professor Thai tends to get out of subject and tends to talk about his life and life in general but Dr. Thai Duy Nguyen is a caring professor, he gives a lot of extra credit and the test are like the sample exams. The class has homework due every Sunday, 2 Quizzes which are not hard, 2 Test and 1 Final. I would take him again.
Professor Nguyen is one of the best professors, if not the best professor, I've ever had. He approaches his students and teach his class with a different philosophy of education. He is a compassionate and caring so much so that his lectures includes the content of the course and life lessons to further and motivate his students. Phenomenal teacher!
Best teacher ever. All he does is talk about his problems. You barely have to do any work. Just turn up for class, listen to him talk, and he'll give you an A. My friend didn't even turn up for class or take the final and got a D and passed. GREAT class, you don't have to learn anything.
Professor Thai is a great human being. He is a nice professor, always there if you need his help. There are 2 test and 1 final. You must do the homework, study the test 1 and test 2 reviews. He tends to get distracted from time to time during lectures but its not bad. I would recommend him to other students.
professor Nguyen is willing to help out all the time and give advice on how to complete the question. you have to put the time in to understand his concepts and you will do fine.
Dr. Nguyen is nice. He gives us 3 Tests but he will drop the lowest one and replace if you do well on the Final. 2 bonus quiz before the first and second test, 2 papers and 1 extra credit paper. He gives us many chances to get extra credits. 1 presentation also. Tests are hard and some questions are in the textbook. Book is very cheap
Best professor for economics YOU GOT IT!!!! Easy to understand, and beyond helpful to any students with questions YOU GOT IT! Takes his time to do online lectures, and gives TONS of extra credit YOU GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He talks a lot, but in the end gets his point across. Constantly asking if you're following and understanding. Great professor with an immense resume.
Awesome professor. He literally gives you a study guide for each test, including the final. You must ofcourse read the chapters so you would some how get an understanding. Extra credit helped so much. Great professor.
Dr. Nguyen is an amazing professor! At first I was discouraged with the materials being presented to me but there are plenty of notes, lectures and practice tests to help you! Took this class during the summer which was a bit crammed but Dr. Nguyen always emailed us to make sure to ask questions if we needed help!
Really nice professor. He really cares about you even if you are not doing well or missing classes. He may not be the best professor I had, but he definitely the most humane professor I have even taken.
Super nice professor and hes very goofy. Attendance isnt required but he does do a graded in class practice exam before the test. I mean economic is hard and it doesnt help that he has a strong accent and he does it differently from the book. Overall hes cares a lot about your education but personally I wouldnt take him again.
Professor is very kind and wants everyone to succeed. But he shares his opinion on politics so much. I want to learn Econ, not his political views. Also, he gets off topic so much! Sometimes he is just buying time for students to copy the board (which is helpful). But often he keeps going. When he is actually teaching he is very good! Mixed feeling
This professor is very funny and knows his stuff. He does tend to go off topic sometimes but trust me his lectures are never boring. I would definitely take his classes again. We need more professors like him!
The professor is amazing in what he does I recommend him
This professor is amazing. He really cares about his students. Classes are interesting, if you want to take ECON class in the future, take him.
Economics is not an easy course but Professor Nguyen makes it possible to comprehend. Just do your part; read, study, and put in the effort and the grade will reciprocate the effort.
Excellent course for MBA level students! Economics is not an easy course but professor Nguyen makes it possible to comprehend. He really cares about his students. Classes are interesting if you want to take Economics in the future, take him.
Took him for a summer class. Was really helpful when you asked for help. He offered zoom session every class day that were optional to attend. He was a kind professor. Was graded on two exams, final and online hw on connect. Replaced lower grade on exam with final if higher.
I'm taking his Online class during the pandemic. He is a very caring teacher but you need to pay attention to what he is saying. His lecture notes are very helpful but the notes on the blackboard are out of order and do not correspond with the syllabus. The notes that actually help me are the ones I receive during the zoom meetings (not recorded).
Hes a great prof! He tents to get off topic a lot and talk about life but all and all hes great, does have a heavy accents and can be hard to understand him at times but its manageable. 3 test 1 final, and 15 homework assignments
Such a nice professor! He has weekly meetings and if you show up and pay attention you will definitely pass. He makes sure you understand the topic he teaches. Definitely would take him.
He is a good teacher if you show up to his zoom meetings you will be able to understand his way of taking an exam. He is very comprehensive and understanding.
Took Professor Nguyen for a summer class, great guy! He is smart and expects you to understand the theory well, but he is very responsive and always willing to explain further. Test are open book, written response, he prepares you well for them.
Professor Nguyen is a very fun teacher he does go a bit off course because we talk about social issues as well as his life he does make learning econ more personal and understandable he is also pretty chill about missing class for a good reason especially if it's due to a medical reason overall he is a very good professor
Professor Nguyen is great! I didn't mind his course; however, his lectures are the reason I wouldn't take him again. He tends to go off-topic and sometimes he messes up on teaching the math side of economics. Although, when it comes to economic theory, he excels! He has a heavy accent if that is an issue. Overall, kind and understanding!
Hes a good professor. His tests are a little complex but I will be honestly I barely pass the class. His lectures are not bad but its a little boring he gets topic a lot. Good professor but I will take another professor for a better grade.
Easy A, but you're better off not attending class. I did each time and saw no point, there would only be 10 students in class. I never got anything out of his lectures and he rambles on A LOT and makes a lot of mistakes in math portions causing us to back track. There is videos and homework weekly that got be through all of the open book exams!
Dr. Nguyen's passion for the subject is evident in his engaging and dynamic teaching methods. He effectively communicates complex economic theories and concepts in a way that is easy to grasp. His ability to simplify intricate economic models helped me develop a solid foundation of knowledge and a deeper understanding of the subject.
Proff. Nguyen is very passionate about teaching and cares about students. His lectures were a bit hard to keep track of and didn't seem to fit the homework as much. Overall, very reasonable, has connect assignments open until finals week, and open note tests.
Even though the textbook chapters are not discussed directly during the class lecture, it's important to read the textbook as about 50% of midterm and final questions are from the book. The handouts provided on Blackboard are essential both for homework and exams. Dr. Nguyen is very responsive and replies to emails quickly.
Dr. Nguyen is awesome. Will show you the entry level of understanding economics. Every time you meet you will be shown how each section. Each section has three assignment due and about an exam every month. Very flexible with having all the sections due at the end of the semester. Exams are not proctored or locked. We deeply care about his students!
Easy A! Dr. Nguyen is a great professor, take him! He shows a lot of care for students and is always very responsive to any concerns. Tests are open books. He lets students to choose whether work individually or with other classmates for homework and group assignments. He gives extra credit. Utilize all the samples he provides, you can get an A.
Professor Nguyen is a very good professor. He really wants students to learn and is always available to help. I have had him for 2 classes now and both times he was great. Highly recommend
Professor Nguyen is a professor that knows his subject and material so teaching it is very easy to him. He is also a very caring and understanding professor when it comes to his Students.
Professor Nguyen is a really sweet man overall. He knows his topic 100% and is superrrr understanding about students missing class/ showing up late. Just wants his students to succeed in his class! if you have an issue reach out to him and he will be there to help
Very easy class, 48 assignments (excluding 3 exams and final) that are open from the start of the semester. Everything is open note with no lockdown browser and attendance is not mandatory. Very accessible to reach him in his office hours.
Dr. Nguyen is so sweet professor I ever had, he tries to help you understand the lessons. Highly recommend!
Nguyen was amazing with explanation throughout the class. Overall, this class consisted of Connect weekly assignments, 2 Exams, and 1 final exam (in Canvas). The whole class total was good amount for him to teach, don't stress this man, this man is best professor had in a long time. Was worried about failing but this professor will get you right.
Dr. Nguyen was very clear about the structure of assignments and grading from the beginning. Any questions or concerns were quickly addressed as well, making the usual intensive workloads of summer classes much more manageable. If you follow assignment guidelines and put effort into writing, you'll be just fine.
Great professor, recommended for everyone!
This professor truly cares about his students and ensures everyone understands the material. He adds humor to class, making it enjoyable. All homework and exams are on McGraw Hill Connect. I highly recommend taking his class in person, if possible, as he values discussions with his students.
Professor Nguyen is an outstanding instructor who cares his students to success. His teaching style is highly structured, engaging, and supportive. I highly recommend him to any student who wants to gain a solid understanding of decision-making and business analytics in a supportive and intellectually stimulating setting.
All hw assignments are on McGrawhill-Connect and they are due at the end of the term. There are 3 exams and one final. Try not to miss the exams. Be careful with his announcements; he often confuses the classes. Otherwise, he is nice and caring. He will not reopen any assignments. They are due when they are due.
Took for Contemporary Economic Issues (ECO1305); don't recommend. Insane amount of homework and it wasn't clear which of them were required and most of the class ended up having to cram 60% of a semester's HW into a couple days b/c of this lack of clarity. Unfair essay grading (he thought a 70% was *good*) -coming from me who made an A btw.
