He is a very good teaacher. He helps if you asked and is easy on the eyes :)
This professor is absolutely amazing! He tries his hardest to teach you the subject, even if it isn't your favorite subject.. and when u need the help he will gladly help u! he also offers tutoring. Lady's u should so take the class. He's very "lovely" to look at. To everyone else, he has a very easy going personality, and he will make u laugh.
Great teacher, he goes through each section slowly making sure everyone is on the same page before moving on. He's generous on test and extra credit as well.
CLASS MOVES FAST, HE DOES NOT TAKE THE TIME TO MAKE SURE STUDENTS ARE COMPREHENDING BEFORE MOVING ON, HIS FINAL IS BASED ON WHAT YOU STUDIED THE ENTIRE SEMESTER WHICH MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT!
DOES NOT EXPLAIN WELL FOR STUDENTS TO COMPREHEND.
Great professor. He cares that his students are grasping the material and slows down when needed. He is very clear on his instructions and has a great personality which makes you want to keep coming to his math class. Tests are easy since he gives you a review sheet that is basically the same. Best math professor I have had so far on campus.
Great math professor at cerritos
I had a "I hate math attitude" but he encourages you to stick with a problem in a way that leads to REAL understanding. Aware of whether the class 'gets' a concept and adjusts to how we are doing. Encourages mastery, not just memory, of principles. I highly recommend him....n yeah, he's pretty easy on the eyes.
I knew my math, so I was always late or not there, and he knew I was good in math, so he did not mind. When I did attend, he was very helpful with his students, he even taught things from lower math classes that students were never taught or did not know. Very helpful, sometimes I viewed as a little TOO helpful. I recommend him, hope he gets hired.
I think he'll be my 2nd choice in order to take a Math class. He explains the lectures good but gives out more than 30 examples per lecture. For some students might be helpful. He gives out a lot of EXTRA CREDIT! :D
He is a great teacher! He explains everything fully and gives many examples. he makes sure everyone is on the same page before moving on and gives extra credit. i passed with an A and math is not my strongest subject!
Love him!! Made it so easy!!
horrible teacher! He might be good with lower math, but not high math. He doesn't explain well and often confuse you. He expects way too much from you and ton of work. Do not take him
I love this man! He's a great teacher and is very funny in his own way, you just have to be smart enough to get it -_-
He's a nice guy and definitely helps out a lot and gives extra credit opportunities. Still, a lot of people in our class had low grades (he shows them in class) near the end of the semester. If you have a personal problem, don't expect him to care. Homework matters a lot and as long as you do it, you'll pass the class.
This guy right here is amazing. His way of teaching is way different from the other math professors that I took and he makes sure you understand the concept and standards of math.
AWESOME Prof! Explains everything so clearly. Shows you short cuts to help you save time and comprehend the material easily. Does assign a lot of homework but over all i completely recommend him.
Amazing professor. He covers a lot and there's a lot of homework but he always answers any questions you have. If you're willing to do the work you will pass. Not an easy A course.
Great Teacher. The only way to fail this class is if you're lazy or too busy to focus in school. Mandatory is necessary, but classtime is never boring. Time goes by fast and he cracks a lot of sarcastic jokes. Very helpful, would recommend!!
Professor Trinh is AWESOME! Great professor that teaches you math the right way and walks around the class to personally help students and make sure everyone is on the same page before moving on. Recommended
Hands down a great proffesor wish he was teaching stats!!! His lectures are so clear and only goes over what you really need to know which I really liked! He's just great for anyone who struggles with Math. High recommend
Great teacher
Prof. Trinh prepares notes for the material you learn each class day. Very organized and is extremely helpful if you are unsure about a Stats problem. Quizzes and tests mainly matter but homework is optional.
His class was so fun, and for this to be his first semester teaching it, he did great. The class was fun, and even though it was complicated, he really tried to explain it. The class itslef is heard, but he is great.
By far the best professor I've taken for any math class. Silly little me didn't go into his office hours up until later in the semester- I wish I went from the beginning. He will work with you if you put in the effort. The homework he assigns is similar to the exam. His lectures are great. He shows you different methods on how to solve a problem.
I hate math. Thanks to Trinh I better understand it and passed! He is an outstanding professor and it really good at what he does
I hate math. Thanks to Trinh I better understand it and passed! He is an outstanding professor and is really good at what he does
So youre good at math? Fine, take him. But if youre not, then I do not recommend because hes a tough grader and youre going to lose a lot of points on quizzes and tests. He often suggests going to office hours but every time I would go he would barely listen to me and then get upset because I didnt understand something.
Professor Trinh gives great lectures. He will make sure you understand before he moves on to the next thing. He is very organized and has wonderful writting. Stats is a hard class but he makes it possible for you to pass. Make sure you go to his office hours, he will help you but you have to keep going. If you really show you care he will help you.
Though this was his first time teaching calc1 he was really good. He made calc1 seem simpler than you think. He makes sure you understand the material before moving on. Even if you have the smallest question like algebra, he will go over it. His exams are pretty hard but i'm sure it prepares you for higher calc.
Prof. Trinh was awful! He would lecture on one thing, then test us on entirely different, more difficult material. Very slow in posting grades. He finally allowed us to turn in test corrections, but took forever to update the grade. Never really knew where I was & ultimately dropped the class. Always bragged about his Calc class, like we're stupid!
Professor Trinh is a cool dude, but he skips over much of the specifics for the material he teaches. Its almost like he wants to get done with a section ASAP instead of wanting his students to understand it well enough.
although i withdrew from his class, i still think he's a good professor. he cares about his students and answers any questions. hw isn't graded, so ur grade is all on how u do on quizzes and tests. his lectures go by really fast which was even hard for me to catch up, so don't miss any class time!
i love the guy
I took this class not knowing of the instructor's background. first of all he moves on WAY too fast teaching lectures and not enough time for note taking. He was more concerned of meeting chapters instead of students progress. I later found out he taught more advance classes, and that DEFINITELY reflected on all exams and quizzes.
Professor Trinh is an amazing professor. This was my second time taking him for Calc 1. He makes sure you understand the material before moving on and he is willing to answer any questions you have, even if they are small questions. His tests are somewhat difficult but they are FAIR. Study hard and be well prepared. He also made class was fun.
DO NOT TAKE HIM, he is a horrible grader doesn't grade stuff for weeks and weeks expects you to know the ins and outs of trig right away goes super fast in his lectures and he would send the study guide out the day before the test if you take him going to his office hours helps I think thats how I passed but too fast for such a difficult subject
Hes kind of a rude teacher, always had an attitude when people would get questions wrong, gave no homework but your participation mattered and counted towards a portion of your grade. Tough grader too, not lenient at all. Id advise yall to take somebody else. A good thing about his geometry class though is that he doesnt require proofs!
he's a good professor that care about his student and he'll answer any question that anybody may have. His test are difficult if you don't practice what you've learned. No textbook to purchase and homework program only cost 40 dollars.
Trinh is the best maths teacher I have ever had. He cares about his students and always finds a way to explain a concept if you can't understand it the first time. He is also funny as hell and will extend deadlines if asked to.
Taking this class was the worst thing i could have ever done. He has done no teaching whatsoever in my class and has basically left every student lost with no guidance. This professor has taken advantage of online learning to slack off and let his students drown in trying to learn Precalculus. Worst teacher by far and wouldn't recommend just no!
Would not recommend this professor if you're trying to pass. He will just throw homework and exams at you and does not seek to help the students learn. Not good at responding to emails or messages in a timely manner, try to email him twice. I think he looked at online classes as an excuse to slack off because grading is never done on time either.
My class was Trinh's first calc1 class. But still, his class really prepared me for the rest of calc. He is very funny and interactive, but is very serious with math. He did not provide homework, but his exams were reflective of problems on his notes and textbook. He does make you think and prepares you well. Totally recommend!
TLDR: The teacher expects you to learn from homework alone and he does nothing The teacher would assign work but provide no lecture notes or videos on most of the chapters and when he does it is usually a day or two before the exam. If you are lucky enough he will actually provide videos to explain the notes but I wouldn't expect it.
I took this class in fall 2021 and I wouldn't take it again with this professor. I did pretty good with tests and did all my homework but he is such a harsh grader. This is my first rate my professor and if you listen to anyone, let it be. Just don't take him.
I believe Prof Trinh is an extremely nice and outgoing person who wants students to succeed; however, being the first class to do hybrid (once a week on-campus, work online), it felt more difficult taking his class since the exams take up so much of your grade, and the final exam is 20% of your grade. Be ready for the content since calc 2 is hard.
I hated math with a passion but Professor Trinh actually made the class incredibly interesting. His class is focused on manipulation of algebra (does not like to use "rules") to do Calculus so make sure you are good with your algebra before taking his class. Also, MAKE SURE YOU ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND AND HE WILL EXPLAIN IT TO YOU.
Can't stress enough what a great professor he is. Please take him. I'd take him for Calc 2 if I could. He is a saint. HW on WebAssign, 5 exams, weekly in person lectures. Incredible at explaining concepts, patient, quick replies, lenient grader, genuinely wants to see you succeed. If you put in the effort, you can do it! I suck at math & I did it!
There are easier and better choices, but if this professor can be a last resort. Each class is just reviewing homework problems people didn't understand. Everything is online and the homework is not bad. Tests have some questions you may not have covered in class. Okay professor, would not take again.
Prof Trinh is a professor who wants you to succeed and gives you chances to do. He wants nothing but for you to show your best work and understanding. The class is split into 3 categories, discussions, homework, and exams. Homework prepares you for the exam. You can ask Trinh for assistance on the homework or there are additional videos to aid you.
I have a word limit, but ill try. ~ lectures are so fast, he doesnt specify the specifics ~ so much homework that we never go over, so how do we know if we even did it right? ~ office hours are for all classes, so you have to compete with others ad pick ur hardest questions ~ the only things graded are tests and quizzes. terrible. do not reccomend
Does not shut up about Desmos and doesn't show us how to do stuff without it. No hw is graded. HW is posted a week after its gone over. Talks about things that aren't math for a long time. Tries to fit everything into one week. (70 HW problems, a quiz, 2 exams same week). He teaches well but it's not enough
It did not give me the option to select MATH114, but I took 114 with him in the summer, which was a 6-week summer course. We did approx 2-2.5 sections. He allows us to use external resources during tests and quizzes, along with giving us access to free books and an online graphing calculator. A lot of homework, and kinda test heavy, but overall good.
Don't take it during summer. He's frequently behind the intended class schedule (can be as far back as two chapters). Quizzes, homework, etc. are often delayed by days. The course isn't difficult but the sheer volume given combined with the delay is almost catastrophic. Work is usually due on Friday instead of Sunday; which is a huge con for me.
Do not take precalc with Professor Trinh!!! At least don't take him in the summer, because he throws lots of material at you at once which makes it hard to keep up in class. He delays assignments, and that makes the class 1000x harder. He has quizzes every week. He hasn't graded anything except for maybe one quiz, so I don't know if I'm gonna pass
I really enjoyed Professor Trinh! This class is definitely not easy, so if you find that you are having difficulty, make sure to reach out for help right away. He really cares about his students and encourages us to work together on problems. Calculus I is pretty heavy on algebra, so make sure to sharpen your algebra skills!
If you were ready to have a mental breakdown, then take this professor. He is by far the worst Professor I have ever had. He grated nothing until the day before grades were due. He didn't teach us anything best believe the math department is going to hear from me.
Terrible professor! tough grader. Had him in the summer, total chaos. Asked for homework & exam answers after we finished, promised to help, but didn't. Kept asking, no response. Exams were a disaster, everyone got low scores. He's super strict wrong answer=zero points, no partial credit. Even if your steps are right but not his way, points off.
Super tough grader! He made the class vote for cheat sheet or no cheat sheet for all the exams and since the majority voted for no cheat sheet, it made it very difficult. Really never gave partial credit for the exams and this is the reason why I dropped. The reasons why I am not giving him a 1 is because he is friendly/motivational/inspirational.
I never wore my seatbelt while driving to school bc I wanted to die before making it to his class.
He is one of the best math professors I've had. He really cares about his students, allows notes and desmos during tests. Since he had tough professors in his past he doesn't want to make his students suffer. Also don't cheat, he's very good at catching it.
For the people that gave 1 stars, they just hate math. However, this professor expects most to hate math. So he makes things completely easy. Go see the other good reviews, I can vouch for their legitimacy. Even if you don't know or have forgotten things from prerequisite material, all you have to do is ask and he gives you it. He hates online tho.
Professor Trinh is one of the best professors I have ever met and a seriously underrated professor here at Cerritos College. I haven't met a professor who cares about students as much as he does, I am grateful that I was able to take classes with him! If you want to boost your math skills to the next level, he's your guy. Amazing, hilarious person!
-Unorganized -Said to use desmos for problems that could be on exam -Just does problems/little explanation -You'll have to teach yourself -If you aren't outgoing you might not do well -Made the tests collaborative and didn't account for odd # of students -Didn't do problems step-by-step until well into the year -Exams are worth 80% of grade
One of the best professors for maths. Highly recommend taking his in-person class. teaches you concepts so nicely that you will never forget them!
I was never able to contact him. He asked us to use canvas inbox but he never replied to me. He also never replied to my emails. I did all my assignments and exams and he gave me a withdrawal grade. I do not recommend him if you want a professor you can get in contact with.
I have yet to finish this course, but having Cengage forced on us for the homework REALLY leaves a bad impression. Who doesn't love an expensive learning tool with sparse information and GRADED homework questions that are mostly tough/challenge ones? Since the "book" is trash, you won't get much help using it and will resort to Googling everything.
I took this class back in my community college days during COVID-19. Now that I'm at a top university after transferring, I can definitively say that he is the worst professor I have ever had. This professor made me question my whole academic career and whether I was worthy of college. I have gone on to succeed just out of spite. Do. not. take.
He was strict, yet caring and hilarious. His lectures simplified the textbook's explanations, and he always offered outside resources for support. He always inspired us all not to give up. He was a top tier educator who cared about his students and went above and beyond in teaching us better than he was taught. He was awesome and I miss his class!
In every class, Professor Trinh engages with everyone and tries to make the subject as exciting as possible. He shows a lot of care for the students even changing his office hours halfway through the year to make it more convenient.
I don't know where to start. I did the homework's, went to tutoring every week, went to the workshops. Nothing was preparing me for the bomb drops of exams he gives out. I'm enrolled in it for next semester but NOT with this professor. Every student I talked to in my class was on the verge of failing if not already failing. Stay away.
"The calculus is easy, the algebra is the hard part" is core theme of his class. Trinh has all the traits of a good professor: charismatic, helpful, good lectures, availability, etc. The challenging part of his class was his exams, which featured problems that required remembering algebraic rules you might have forgotten. So, stay on your toes!
The course content is challenging, but he does his best to explain it as clearly as possible. Whenever you ask questions, he provides detailed and easy-to-understand explanations. The exams are tough, but he genuinely cares about his students.
He was good at first but the longer I took his class the more i realized if he messed up the lecture schedule it will affect you. He tried to catch up by doing multiple chapters in one lecture class almost learning nothing. His exams weren't even accurate to what we learned, definitely have to do your own studying compared to math classes.
I am currently taking Calculus 2 (190) I had him last semester for Fall 2024. I really recommend Trinh he has amazing lectures where he will slow down and take the time to make sure everyone is following along before continuing with the rest of the lecture. He is very accessible and will happily help out. MAKE A STUDY GROUP!! (for any class)
To those saying he's bad for "throwing a lot of material at you at once," you chose a class that covers ~12 chapters in 6 weeks. I took his 9-week precalc; he prepares you well. Exams are like the homework. Daily homework is, unfortunately, necessary to cover everything, and he gives lots of late passes if you need more time.
I walked out, regretting every second of my academic existence. I retook calc and it was not as hard as he made it. In one exam, five of us studied hard, and he let us have unlimited notes and homework. We printed the homework with the answers, and when we finally sat down, NONE OF THE QUESTIONS WERE ON THE EXAM. He seemed glad seeing our struggle.
This professor didn't respext student if you ask thsi professor he will say ask Ai . Test heavy . If you want f take this professor
HIGHLY recommend banding together with classmates to study and practice together. It's a good way to get help if you are stuck, and I genuinely enjoyed my peers' company. That alone reduced the stress of this class immensely. His exams are daunting but the study guides, OFFICE HOURS, and group study sessions left me more than prepared on exam day.
Trinh is a unique professor, he tries every way he can to help you succeed in the class and really understand the material. The material is very tricky and you'll only do well if you take the time to study, go to his office hours, do the homework, and ASK QUESTIONS. This class will take up most of your time, put in the effort and you'll do fine.
(Took calc 2 in spring 2024) He goes wayyy too fast in lectures so you will need to allocate extra time outside of class to really understand the material but overall he does teach you concepts in a clear straightforward manner. Exams are tough, a good partner is crucial. He is a big motivator and hypes up the class to stay engaged. Take him for c2
Took this professor in the spring and I loved the environment. He always has a smile on his face and makes jokes, although calc 2 will be hard if you don't put in the work. If you are taking his class make a study group or a discord server so you are not on your own. Overall great professor to take for calc 1/2, wish he taught calc 3.
Worest professor exams hard if you need f take it
Horrible attitude gave me a 0 because canvas had 2 different times to turn in work. I politely told & asked him revise the assignment never got back to me
Only take this class if you want to get F or want to drop in middle of semester. His exam is toughest with worst grading. End of the semester, you will find out only few student stay in class.
Decent professor, but really bad at grading on time. The first study guide was nothing like the first exam, but I guess it helped him gauge where the class was at. I'd recommend him if you're a math major. For anything else, nah.
