Easy, sometimes hard to understand... but always willing to help
Easy class if you do the work
Nice guy but terrible professor, tests you on material we didn't cover, I do not recommend.
pretty easy teacher, has a tendency to have a couple test questions come out of nowhere, but if you go to class its pretty easy to follow
Arrogant, not extremely helpful, he tests on material not covered in class. He also is not encouraging of questions.
Thao is so funny.

pretty nice, not very easy to understand sometimes because of the accent...other than that, he was a good prof, really hard tests, but go to class b/c the points for going save you in the end
the class is a harder class, but Dr. Yang is more than wiling to help you out and if you do the homework and study you'll do fine. He also holds study session which really help. And he is SO FUNNY!
The class is hard, but do-able. Dr. Yang held many study sessions that we VERY helpful. His humor helps keep the class entertaining.
Thao is the funniest teacher at the university. Should learn a bit more English. He tests on things that were never covered in class, and doesn't teach a damn thing. My advice: only go to class for the tests and quizzes, and read the book.
Very helpful, but his tests were challenging.
Hard to understand, tests on material not covered in class. Class is extremely boring. Would not recommend.
lectures hard to understand. he does not explain well enough. he jumps around a lot. but very nice man.
just hard to understand, you can become bored pretty soon, nice guy though....
In his lectures he explains clearly what you be required to know. He also tells you exactly what you will need to know for quizes and exams. Just be prepaired to study and you will do fine.
Lectures with powerpoint, but sometimes isn't clear on topic. Take advantage of office hours because he is very helpful.
Take advantage of the office hours; he's very helpful during the study sessions. If you pay attention in class and go to his study group, I guarantee you an A. He's a very nice guy!!
He was a good teach er and was always willing to help you. He even remebered my name from freshmen year when I was taking 150 junior year. I think that chem either comes easy or hard for people and it doesn't matter who the professor is. You should take him because he is always willing to help.
If you struggle with Chemistry Thao is the guy to choose. He breaks things down well so they are easy to understand, and he sends practice problems almost identical to those you might see on the exam. He is interested in helping everyone succeed. I went into this class with little confidence in doing well, and with Thao you CAN get good grades.
Very hard to understand, nit-picky on the tests, especially the diagrams. Would not recommend him, but for the nursing majors out there like myself, I had no choice.
Dr. Yang is so funny! He makes the class fun. If you don't understand what he is talking about JUST ASK. He will tell you anything that you want to know. He is not too hard on the exams either, just study, and you will do fine.
careless at times- writes wrong numbers on the whiteboard; subtle humor. Explains what is on tests. Sometimes. Gives homework- doesn't collect it. Not that hard to understand. Hmong. Slight accent.
Dr. Yang is awesome! Being a nursing major, I came to school this fall worrying about chemistry, but he explains things well, and what you don't understand you can ALWAYS ask about (seriously ask, he's helpful!) Dr Yang's Chem 103= Highly Recommended!
GRADES QUIZZES HARD, GOES OVER MATERIAL FAST N HAS A QUIZ OR EXAM EVERY WEEK. NO HOMEWORK TO TURN IN, SOMETIMES HARD TO UNDERSTAND. NOTES ON POWER POINTS.
Great class! Tests and quizzes are super easy! I barely studied and always got a's. Very funny and always makes you laugh. If you are lost or confused just ask he will help you out! No homework collected, but do it because it prepares you for the quizzes and tests.
A little hard to understand, but all in all, nice guy.
He's a great professor and is very helpful. His tests and quizzes are very easy because they are similiar to his examples. Attend class and pay attention then you'll be fine.
horrible teacher.....i had to have surgery 24 hours before a test and he wouldn't let me postpone it......good luck with him
A little hard to understand at times... But he's funny and will help you out if you ask for it. Also, his exams are relatively easy
Chem is hard for me so I found him hard to follow in lecture sometimes. Reading the book helps. Very willing to help outside of class. He was never in a hurry to get me out of his office. Really wants his students to learn the material. I would recommend him to anyone who is willing to try and ask questions. Awesome guy!
Awesome Prof. Very willing to help. Tests and quizes are basically off homework. if you do the work, you'll do well. Very helpful in office and thru emailing. Highly recommended!!
Tests/Quizzes are very easy.. Labs are also easy - he is helpful during labs/class time. He doesn't speak that great of english, but it is very easily understandable. He is also very good at emailing students back in a very timely fashion, I highly recommend him.
decent teacher, english is easily understandable...print off notes, its easier that way...helpful if you need it, test you NEED to prepare for and you wont do so bad, helpful in labs
Yang is a great teacher! He is so funny and he doesn't even realize it! He is so helpful, all you have to do is ask! The tests are a bit challenging but just make sure you spend a good amount of time studying for them! Labs are long but not hard. Quizzes are also fairly easy! I'd recommend Yang for sure!
If you can do the readings and all the homework problems, you will do fine with all of it. Lecture is a little redundant- but very thorough. Dr. Yang wants you to understand, he knows his stuff really well too! Sweet guy!
Dr. Yang is a good professor. He is hard to understand at first but you'll get used to it. He gives you old exams questions to study which are almost exactly like the test questions he will give you. Do the homework and study the old exams and the class is easy. He is also a pretty funny guy.
The course was not hard at all, and some of the lecture readings was from wikipedia. He is very helpful if you don't understand something. The lab was useless and doesn't relate to the lecture at all.
Hes awesome. Ive only had him for a lab prof. But hes always willing to help. He also, wants you to understand what you are actually doing. Funny too.
AWESOME professor. Halarious and very helpful. Really wants his students to do well, take him if you can. He's one of those professors that you're never going to forget. Speaks English really well.
Simply the best chem teacher I have ever had. I highly recommend him.
Yang is a great guy! Very funny too. This class frustrated me at first but it got easier as I got used to his style. Quizzes and Exams are challenging, and some questions are kinda tricky but if you study you should do fine. I would recommend him. Very willing to help you outside of class too!
Extremely helpful! Go to his office hours and he will explain everything to you and go out of his way to help you understand. Sometimes hard to follow in class but overall really nice guy
Dr. Yang was super helpful to me and explained everything in detail if you didn't understand it. he gives partial credit, which is REALLY nice, offers a lot of his time to help his students and grades fairly, definetly made chem not so much of a hell as I expected it to be. Would definetly recommend!!
loved prof. yang! he is very helpful, if you ever have questions he is willing to help you as much as possible, he keeps class interesting with his quirky jokes, overall very nice professor! if you study for the tests the class isnt too hard
I had Dr. Yang for lab, and I have to say, he was the only helpful science teacher I have had at UWEC so far. He was very willing to answer questions and work with you one on one. He is also hilarious, but I don't know if he means to be. Overall a GREAT professor...Definitely highly recommended!
Yang is an OK prof., but he has a little trouble with his english, which makes it hard to relate to him. I didn't find him to be the most helpful in answering questions, but the class wasn't TOO bad. Sometimes he makes me giggle; he says things like "Dearest Chem 150 students..." Not bad, but I would choose other professors over him.
Yang is a pretty good professor. He is very helpful when you have questions but can be confusing and unclear at times. Quizzes are easy if you studyn but the exams can be challenging
Yang can be very unclear with his expectations as well as in lecture when covering material. He chooses some random concepts to quiz on but do the assigned (optional) hw problems and utilize his office hrs. he is VERY helpful one on one and works with you until you understand it.
Dr. Yang is a funny man who understands chemistry well, however, I dreaded his class. Many of his quiz and exam questions came out of nowhere, and I found that I learned more by reading the book than I did in lecture. He's very helpful one-on-one, but doesn't always answer emails and sometimes forgets appointments. Nice guy, tough class.
Yang is a great guy, but his class is hard. There are a lot of quizzes and exams, and there are sometimes things on there that weren't covered in class. Yang is, however, extremely helpful if you talk to him. He also gives extra credit for perfect attendance :)
Yang is a great teacher. He does have an quiet voice at times and a little accent, but he is still clear from the back of the room. He goes through a lot of examples in class and walks around to help. His notes are clear and he's an overall great guy with a fantastic sense of humor.
I loved thao yang! He works through all the chem problems and topics with the class at a speed everyone could handle. His tests were out of his lecture notes and the assigned homework was harder than what he tested you on. He is a cute old man! Ha sometimes he will erase a perfectly good "e" or letter and rewrite it exactly the same way.
I loved thao yang! He works through all the chem problems and topics with the class at a speed everyone could handle. His tests were out of his lecture notes and the assigned homework was harder than what he tested you on. He is a cute old(ish)man!
He is a cute older man! Ha sometimes he will erase a perfectly good "e" or letter and rewrite it exactly the same way.
D. Yang is the man!!!! He is extremely helpful and he prepares you well for the tests and quiz. He is really funny too. Sit in the front and you'll be fine
D-Yang...the face of science. Dr. Yang is probably the best science teacher on the face of the planet, hes funny and super helpful when you have any problems. All you kids shouldn't think twice about who to pick for chemistry, just pick D-Yang and you'll life will be complete. Oh and the tests and quizzes are quite easy just study the day before.
Dr. Yang is easily the coolest Science teacher. Take Chem 103 with him, He is the Face of Chemistry!
if all you do is go to class you will hate it. Do the assigned book problems - he puts them on tests/quizzes; best tip i can give is get on his good side and go into office hours he will literally give you questions that he puts on the test or similar types and will sit with you for hours doing it, he really just wants people to learn
Do not take him! Not clear, very unorganized, very unclear what is expected of you on quizzes/exams. Attendance is mandatory. Had to give lots of extra credit because averages were so bad on tests. No homework is the only upside and he also drops lowest quiz score. Final exam is very difficult, it is cumulative.
Dr. Yang is a BOSS. He is a very good teacher. He can ramble in his lecture, but if you take notes you'll be fine. I would strongly recommend going to his office hours he is really good one-on-one. If you study for an hour or two before test and quizzes you'll do good. Its an easy class, and a great teacher
Yang is the man!!! Good teacher. Explains everything well. Very good at helping when you go to his office. I got an A. Just study before tests.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He does not know what he is doing. Class consists of ppts that he just jumps around on. Does not answer questions. I attended all classes but he didnt give me full credit due to his faulty system. He draws something on the board and tells you what is it&leaves you to figure out the rest. Need to know random facts 4tests
Dr. Yang tries to make his class interesting, but usually ends up making really awkward analogies. Taking your own notes on lecture is a must;his powerpoints aren't that helpful. Quizzes and tests are kind of hard. Lowest quiz grade gets dropped. Random attendance taken. Don't take this for GE.
if its between yang and king. take yang. but there are better profs. he is really quiet so sit near the front. his exams are somewhat hard and not easy to take in 50 minutes, but there was a huuge curve. just give the class some effort.
If you ever have the option to take Professor Yang you should do it! I was nervous to take CHEM 103 since I hadn't had chemistry since my sophomore year in high school, but Yang made it easy to understand. He is an average professor for lectures but he will help you with anything you need if you come to his office hours.
Take Professor Yang for sure. He is funny and VERY helpful. His tests are mostly multiple choice and usually curves a little. COME TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, HE WILL HELP YOU WITH ANYTHING.
I did not like this proffesor. Very inconsistent, sometimes shows up late to his own office hours, jumps around in lecture and has to have the class correct his work several times in a lecture. He really wants to help but talks himself in circles. I found myself reteaching myself what he was trying to teach in lecture often.
I had yang for lab, he is a great guy! Probably one of my favorites professors at UWEC. He is really helpful and nice about everything. I would definatley take another class with him if i could. He tried to get to know each one of his students.
Yang is pretty much Buddha...he will enlighten and blow you chemical mind. He also is really helpful in office hours..great guy
don't stop thinking bout glycolysis
Dr.Yang is extremly helpful. He will answer any questions you have and he makes sure everyone in the class knows whats going on before he goes on. He is very good one-on-one. He is my favorite teacher at UWEC. Great guy and teacher. Tests are not easy but fair and gives extra credit.
Hard to understand sometimes. Talks to the board instead of the students. Very quiet - sit in the very front! I felt like I was teaching myself the lessons more than he taught me. Good lab professor though. VERY helpful if you go to his one-on-one office hours, he basically just gives you the answers, but he makes sure you understand everything
Prof. Yang is really sweet, but he comes off a bit intimidating. Definitely get a spot towards the front if you want to learn anything, he's really quiet kind of hard to understand. I recommend going in during his office hours, because he will walk you right through everything and you understand 100X more! Good professor for the most part :)
Great professor. Chem is hard no matter what professor you have but Dr.Yang is really great. ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT. He is more than willing to help! I was concerned at first because he is slightly hard to understand but it gets better through the semester!
Professor Yang was extremly helpful! Chem is not easy and he was always willing to help. If you attend class and pay attention you will have no problem in his class!
a little difficult to understand but gives a ton of examples in lecture which are always the same process as the exam. tests and quizes were very easy
Professor Yang is a great professor. His tests are just like the examples given in class. He is willing to help if you go to his office hours. Yang made 103 an easy course. Really sweet guy with a cute accent.
great professor. he is really willing to help you. just make sure you put in the time and go in to see him right away when you need help. if he sees you are trying you will get a good grade in this class
IF YOU ARE A NURSING STUDENT, LISTEN: you have two options when it comes to being forced to taking this class with Dr. Yang. Option A: Go part-time so you can spend lots of personal time making up for Yang's unorganized, unclear class, or Option B: Wait to take this class until you're accepted to the nursing program so it doesn't count against you.
Very unorganized. He rushes through lectures when it comes time for the tests and everything feels unfinished. He provides examples in class at an easy level, and then places a much harder question on the test. You need to study in order to do well. The class is manageable, but it is not easy by any means. There is not much out of class work.
Dr. Yang is the best teacher I've had so far! He is a really nice down to earth guy who genuinely cares about his students! I had him for lab and learned a lot more in his lab than I did in my lecture (taught by Muller). He will answer ANY question you have. He is VERY educated in his field and definitely knows what he's talking about.
Dr. Yang is a nice guy but he is all over the place! His lectures are boring and confusing! I rarely know what he is talking about or what we are supposed to know. I would avoid him if possible..
Not necessarily the best professor, but so helpful and caring that it makes up for it. Lecture isn't always the most interesting but he truly cares about his students. Work hard and you'll get the grade you deserve.
The tests have a lot of questions but they're very straightforward. Show up to his study sessions before tests and do the practice questions he gives you and you should ace his course. Loved him, he was funny. When taking notes he writes kind of fast, make sure to pay attention.
Yang is such a sweet guy with an adorable accent. His class was very easy if you've had any kind of chem in high school. If you don't understand something, go to his office hours the day before the exam and he will go over the actual exam with you and the questions he is going to ask. Would definitely take him again.
Sweetest man ever, although not a great professor. If you had chem in high school it will be a breeze. A lot of students begged for A's and he gave it to them. He will meet with you and help in any way he can, but he is not a great explainer. Go to his office the day before the exam!!
He was so nice! I had chemistry in high school so this class wasn't too bad of a level for me. However, if I wouldn't have had background I would have struggled. GO IN TO HIS OFFICE! He will help you a lot!
Yang is a truly genuine professor. If you ask for help he will give it to you . Help is needed in his class, he is generally unclear in lectures and skips around a lot. He tests and quizzes were generally not too bad, but he tended to pull random details for tests. Not the most organized man, but he means well and is always willing to help.
Not the greatest professor. When you ask for help, part of the time will give you a clear answer. Doesn't completely explain concepts of lab, making it more confusing. Goes to students closest to him who need help when there has been someone needing help for longer than the student he is with.
Print off the powerpoint slides, go to lectures, and take notes on everything he says. You'll be fine. He's really helpful and the course content is not difficult if you pay attention for the 50 minutes of lecture and make notecards outside of class.
Dr. Yang is a wonderful professor! He breaks biochemistry down into easy, understandable concepts. He always provides practice exams and review sessions. Beyond helpful - and makes a conscious effort to know our names!
Dr. Yang is a great lab professor, he is understanding and incredibly helpful! He is willing to look over your lab before you turn it in and he is really friendly. Would definitely would recommend taking him for lab!
Dr. Yang is extremely helpful in lab and will help you with anything. He is super friendly and actually didn't make lab too bad. Definitely would recommend him for your chem lab!
He is a very nice man and is always there to help you (you just have to ask for it). If you go into his office hours he's even willing to help you with the final lab exam.
He is the BEST professor you can have for 103! So helpful when it comes to explaining things and if you respect him and his time, he will help you as often as you need. Study the material frequently and his quizzes and exams shouldn't be too bad. Such a sweet guy and will help you in any way he can. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!!
He is very knowledgeable about chemistry and teaches very good labs to help understand the material. He will answer any questions you have and is willing to negotiate grades if you visit his office hours. Make sure to go to his office hours to ask questions about the final lab practical. Grade doesn't only depend on the exams.
Dr. Yang was great, if you go to his office hours he is very helpful and when I went in to ask questions about what I got wrong on the exams he gave me some extra credit. Lectures are sometimes confusing but if you just ask he will explain it and help you understand. Offers extra credit many times and drops your lowest quiz score.
Dr. Yang was an okay professor. He kinda jumped around in lecture but he made sure to hit all of the big points. If you needed help he was very good at trying to get you to understand in office hours. SI sessions are helpful as he doesn't always connect points. Extra credit is offered is easily obtained.
Dr. Yang is a super caring professor! He really wants his students to do well. He can just be very unclear of what he expects you to know on the exams. But it is super helpful if you go into his office to talk to him. EXTREMELY NICE and HELPFUL!!
Yang is the best! He is so sweet and gives extra credit so it's awesome. I thought the class was super easy and didn't need the book at all. He gives extra credit so that can help you with your grade and he tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams and quizzes. He is so sweet too so it makes the class better! Take him!!
Although this was a difficult class, Dr. Yang was always willing to help. He is accessible during his office hours, and is willing to make specific office hours that work for you. Additionally, he really wants you to fully understand the information, and is willing to work one on one with you, until you get it.
Dr. Yang is very knowledgeable, but skips around content during lectures. He gives many examples (too many) but doesn't explain them. The online homework problems have nothing to do with the content and are very confusing. He talks during exams and quizzes and makes you rethink all of your answers. Confusing class overall.
Dr. Yang was a wonderful professor for my large CHEM 103 class. He really enjoys teaching about the different topics and is very clear on what he wants of you. The tests are big, not hard if you took good notes in lecture, and outlined very well before the tests actually occur. I have an A in the class and I have never opened my chemistry textbook.
Great and caring professor!
Yang is adorable. He will give you points back on quizzes if you have solid argument. He genuinely wants you to succeed. Not going to lie, his lectures jump around and you will have to do the homework and some outside studying to fully understand. He tells you whats going to be on tests and quizzes which is super nice. Didnt have to read textbook.
GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, he will clear up anything that you didn't understand in lecture and give you hints on what will be on exams/ quizzes. The practice exams are a lot like the actual exam so study from those. Except for the final, it is really hard to make sure you have a good grade going into the final exam.
Yang is the best professor I have ever had. He cares so much about his students. He wants everyone to succeed. He holds the longest hours. He has 20 students there before because he goes over extra things at office hours. Get to know him and ask for help when confused. He is so knowledgeable. He deserves so much credit! I 100% recommend him!
He is super nice! He is very helpful and tries to be funny. I had him for chem lab and he is the best teacher I have ever had tbh.
Yang is a pretty cool guy. In my lecture we fell behind, but only because he pushed the test date back further. He is a reasonable dude who is willing to help, and you can usually fight back points on some of the things on tests/quizzes. Yang is overall such a sweet professor, he literally reminds me of a cute lil grandpa
Yang likes to make jokes and always answers any questions you have in lab. His accent is difficult to understand at first but you get used to it. I had a different professor for lecture so reading the textbook sections for my chem labs helped a lot. Also pop quizzes are fairly frequent and they kinda suck. Nice guy though
Yangs lectures are all over the place, he goes over many examples and frankly, that was the only way I passed this course. He explains things very confusing but he is obviously very knowledgeable. He gives 20 extra credit points that really boost your grade. As well as practice exams and answers before the exam to make sure you are well prepared.
Really nice teacher, but he just reads from the powerpoint. We had a lot more quizzes and exams then most chem classes did. The final is a real killer, and all of the quizzes seem easy, but the exams are what are really hard. Sometimes a bit difficult to understand his accent, but overall a really nice and sweet professor. Use his office hours!
Dr. Yang truly cares about his students. He is so nice and often explains things so students understand. He will listen to you if you have a question about a grade you got and often gives points back if you can show him you know what to do. If you listen in class- it's an easy A. If you're a good student, he will give you the benefit of the doubt.
Professor Yang makes this class bearable. I skipped a few times, even missed an exam once and he was very flexible about when I could retake it. He answers all of your questions and tells you step by step how to do something. He is so helpful in lab as well. He wants what's best for his students. Would definitely recommend if you suck at chem!!
Overall a very nice and great professor, caring and funny in class and always willing to help students in and out of class. Has a bit of an accent so he can be hard to understand and follow sometimes but he explains everything very well and it shows. Lots of out of class online homework but it helps go over the content you learn in class.
Had Dr. Yang for chem lab. Very funny guy. Makes lab fun and interesting. He will definitely help you out if you're having a hard time - you just have to ask!
Thao is a great prof. He will help you with anything as long as you ask. I had him for CHEM106 lab and I made sure to have him for my 109 lab. Labs are straight forward and we never have to do anything outside of class.
Here's how chem 109 lab goes with yang: You spend the first hour listening to him loosely explain what you are supposed to be doing, the second hour is trying to figure out what you're actually supposed to do, and the third hour is you actually doing the lab. While he was always willing to help, lab took FOREVER. He was very nice, but unclear.
BEST professor I ever had. Just go to class and take notes. Exams follow his study guides exactly. He was awesome and I wish I could take him again!
He is very knowledgeable in the subject, but doesn't care much about your feelings or how you're doing in the class. He simply tells you "you have to understand the chemistry". He doesn't teach concepts at all, but rather only does tons of examples during class. You basically have to teach yourself everything from the book. Exams are very difficult
Professor Thao Yang was someone you could get to know if you really reached out. I have taken his LAB class for Chemistry and he's knowledgeable in his subjects and knows how to work around things even if it's not the "traditional" way. I remember sitting down with him in his office to just talk; anything from his own culture to just homework
Prof. Yang does a great job of explaining chemistry topics in a way that can relate to everyday life. He does tend to talk slower, but the information that he gives is very relevant to the testing material. He doesn't test on super obscure topics that were only mentioned once or twice, and makes the homework relevant to the test material as well.
There's a lot of assignments, but if you do them, you should pass. Lectures got long and repetitive, but he thoroughly explains topics. Assessments were open note (possibly because we were online) and had extra credit with them. On low scoring exams, he allowed students to rework problems for more points. A bit hard to understand via email though.
I took this class over the summer and although I struggled in it Professor Yang was there to help. He allowed us to correct all of our tests, and I really should have gotten at C- in his class but because of all the extra credit and corrects I got a B+. He really cares about the success of his students.
I loved having Professor Yang, he was super clear in his lectures and I found it very easy to learn from him. There were a good amount of opportunities for extra credit, and he is very helpful when it comes to questions and or literally anything else you may need. Super kind and I would definitely take a chem course from him again.
He is very knowledgable about the subject, but he can be difficult to ask questions. I felt as if he expected me to know everything and felt dumb asking questions.
He is a professor that really cares about his students success. He goes steady on the material so that you can grab a good understanding of it before you do your owl assignments. There is lots of homework which gives you lots of practice to study over the material. I would definitely take his class again, and he made chemistry so fascinating too.
His passion for Chemistry and science really drove me to dig deeper. Outside of class, I would even come into his office to talk about life, culture, and future plans. He was a great teacher and emotional support especially after I loss my father recently. Inside class, if he was unclear, you always have the opportunity to ask questions.
Professor Yang definitely had an interesting teaching style that may not work with some students, but in the end I was able to learn with his lectures and textbook reading. USE YOUR RECOURSES and do the extra credit. He gives ample opportunity to boost your grade and his grading is pretty fair.
Professor Yang was a phenomenal professor! He was super caring and really loved seeing his students achieve. During exams/quizzes he would walk around the room and help everyone. Dr. Yang would go out of his way to try and get every student to understand the material. I highly recommend taking him as a professor if you can!
He is the second greatest professor at UWEC (after Anna Cook) he is amazing. He is super helpful outside of class as long as you make an effort. Tests are not bad he is an amazing professor!
You can never understand him. Does not teach just writes all over the board thinking you already know the material. Exams are hard and not like practice exams. Teaches fast so hopefully, you can write fast. Do not recommend
He knows what he is talking about but is unable to relay that information clearly to students. Very confusing, makes little mistakes in his own examples that he has to go back and fix half the time. Not awful, you learn through the OWL assignments you take on canvas just as much as what you go over during class. Funny good guy, not a great teacher
Professor Yang is very knowledgeable about chemistry, but it's hard to understand his lectures because he doesn't relay the information very well. You will also have a pop quiz at the end of every class. However, he does drop your lowest quiz grade at the end of the semester and provides extra credit opportunities which is a plus.
Make sure you go to class because he gives you all the info you need to know in lecture. The tests mimic the study guides he gives. Yang gives out extra credit as well. Yang did tend to mumble or talk quiet at times. Don't listen to everyone else, a lot of the class seemed to not pay attention or even take notes. Yang was great.
Thao is very knowledge with all things chemistry but I would defiantly recommend taking bio150 with any professor except him. He lectures before quizzes and half the time you can barely understand what he is saying because he mumbles or talks quietly. The only good thing about his class is all the extra credit opportunities and the easy pop quizzes
Prof Yang is one of the nicest and funniest professors at UWEC. Go to his office hours and get to know him. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about chemistry making the class easier. He can be difficult to hear but you can manage. If you pay attention this class is easy while also being fun!
Dr. Yang was very nice and seemed to genuinely care about his students. However, he often didn't follow his lecture slides and instead would just write seemingly random things on a sheet of paper. I never had a problem hearing or understanding him and the class isn't too difficult if you pay attention. Overall, he was a good teacher!
Professor Yang is the best. I am not a huge chem fan but he made lecture fun and interesting. He constantly made students laugh and encouraged people to come to office hours for help. He is genuinely caring and wants what is best for his students. There is 3 exams and 4 quizzes and a few homework assignments.
Dr. Yang is definitely understanding and truly cares about his students. However, I can't say his lectures are amazing or interesting. And you definitely have to pay attention to him and try your best to keep up with his messy notes since he doesn't post his notes on Canvas and he is a bit unorganized. Make sure to study his study guides!
Dr. Yang was an extremely hard professor. I ended up dropping because of how low my grade was. As someone who struggles with chemistry it was very disheartened going to class. Once he said, "I know I'm hard. That's just how I am." He does have an accent that can be hard to understand and he speaks very quietly. Pop quizzes are common.
Dr Yang is all over the place in his lectures, but he truly cares about his students. His personality makes up for his teaching style. I had to teach myself a lot of the topics, but his tests were not very difficult. He gives practice quizzes and tests and they are usually almost identical to the actual quiz or test.
Chem 150 is a fairly difficult course by nature, however, he makes it fairly simple to understand if you pay attention during his lectures. He is very lenient if you interact with him, gives a good amount of EC, and tests and quizzes aren't too difficult so long as you take advantage of practice exams and quizzes. Overall not the best but not bad.
Such a nice man, lectures are pretty straightforward. Tests are fair and derived from lecture/PowerPoint material. Lots of easy points are given from pop quizzes.
Thao is the worst professor I have ever had. He doesn't teach, he puts things on the board and doesn't explain them. It's very hard to learn in his class. He also assigns a ton of homework but never puts anything in Canvas. He also does not understand students and questions they ask, so it is very hard to communicate with him. Would not recommend.
I think Thao Yang is the most nicest and caring professor I have ever had. He truly cares about students' grades and their mental health. Biochemistry is genuinely a hard subject, but if you go to his office hours he explains everything so well. I love going to his lectures, and he's just such a funny guy!
He is very kind but the material itself was hard to learn since it was just read off of a slideshow. Pop quizzes every day for attendance. Is not the easiest to reach outside of class. Not a lot in the grade book, is a bit test-heavy. If you apply yourself you will succeed in the class but definitely don't get behind. It is hard to go up after that
Yang is a great guy, he is funny and makes the class laugh. However, I did not learn well from him. He does not explain the content, he just reads from the slides. He over explains things everyone knows, but hardly explains the tougher subjects. I recommend reading the textbook and getting a tutor. Bc just listening to lectures is not enough.
Yang really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. However, he gives ungodly hard tests and curves them. This does not help though because of that one person that keeps getting 100%. So, there is no curve. His lectures are hard to understand and there is a pop quiz every class (They are easy). Great guy, hard class.
This class was very challenging, but Prof. Yang was hilarious and always full of jokes. If you go to his office hours, he is very helpful but the class itself can be very difficult to follow along with.
