Thea Howey was hard to work with in the beginning but after evalutions she became a kind professor, easy to learn in the class as long as you do the work. If I could I would take her ENG 101 class.

She's a nasty ****..who picks her favorites and stick to them..picks on the people that she doesn't like and doesn't care if it hurts their feelings, takes her WEEKS to return our papers back!! and also grades your papers harder then any other teacher

wow, i've sat and listened to the women in my class complain everyday before she enters the room. at first i though, they are just melodramatic. i was wrong. she is a pain. i'm sick of reading susan glasspell, and everything being so hazey. we have to write 3 papers on a jury of her peers/trifles. lame, don't take her. her grading is easy though.
I have taken her online and have found her class to be of average workload (but half of what other profs require). You get to know the material and if you are taking the non-basic classes then you are usually there because you want to be and this is a good prof to have to learn the material without excessive assignments.
Ironically, I can understand where everyone is coming from on here, but it bothers me that even after the end of the class you still all feel this way. I got to know her as a person, and I really like her. Im even taking her next semester because shes such a great person and I enjoy exchanging emails with her. I would deff recommend her.
Howey is the worst professor I have ever had. We learned nothing in this course. All we did was watch movies. Everyday before class we would complain. Howey was late every day. Assignments were returned, if ever, late. Howey acts innapropriately, and assigns vindicative work. I can't imagine why she went into education. She is no teacher!
Every day, before she arrived, the entire class would go on and on about how bad she was--but honestly, I never saw why. She was always nice, never assigned an excess of work, and really seemed to care about what she taught. I don't get why everyone has such animosity towards her.

This woman should NOT be a teacher. She assigns USELESS work and is very vague with her directions, but then flips a**** when you don't do it correctly. She has favorites, and is very rude to you if you aren't one of them (and she actually LIKES me!). She takes FOREVER to hand assignments and grades rediculously. Everyone in our class DESPISES her
The class is good, but Howey is a terrible professor. She didn't grade anything on time and only graded half of our work. It took her a month to get our midterms back. Gave no feedback to help us improve.
Extremely useless!Does not follow syllabus at all.Forgets when/if she assigned anything and flips out if the class has no clue what she is talking about.Made class buy useless novel which looked through 2x entire semester.Hard grading,useless in helping or constructive criticism.
I thought Thea Howey was a great teacher. That was until she made everyone who actually tried and did well, not matter. She gave us good grades, but THEN she gave STUPID students the same freaking grade when they whined and talked their way into a good grade. So, thanks a lot Thea. GOOD JOB!
Howey showed little interest in the course which was on line. Her assignments were posted late,yet she still wanted them in on time. She did not keep up with grades nor did she bother to respond to emails. I would not recommend her to anyone.
I liked her a lot, she is very helpful and she is a good teacher.I did all my work and I get an A easy.All you need to do is do your work in class!!
Plain and simple, ive never disliked a teacher as much as i dislike her. She doesnt clearly state assignments, doesnt have work done on time, has little sympathy if you dont understand the material, contradicts herself, and is extremely unorganized. i dont recommend her to anybody.

She was THE WORST teacher I have ever had. Everyone would sit and complain about how terrible she was. She was mean to you if you asked a question. I stopped asking questions because she made me feel like an idiot. She changed assignments at the last minute, but expected us to still hand in on time. Horrible!!!!! Had favorites, forgot everyone else
I got so much out of her courses.I took her twice because she did a wonderful job.I did take her online maybe she is different in person.If you have a passion for English you will especially like her.I was really surprised by her bad reviews.
I must say for my first english class in college. Taking her was well worth it,she was a great teacher. I think all these bad comments are people that did not feel ling working. If you want to learn while having fun take Thea, corny sense of humor but it is a fun class. Enjoy!!
Nice lady. Very friendly and passionate about her subject. She gives quite a bit of work though, and some of her expectations--particularly for students taking her courses online--are unrealistic and even a bit unfair. Overall, decent teacher.
As a person, amazingly sweet and quirky amusing. As a teacher- simply not what she should be doing. She is very disorganized, switched due dates on a weekly basis, never returned emails, and was three months behind on grading. Interesting class( Shakespeare) but she is very biased in her grading. If she doesn't agree with you, expect a low grade.
This English Literature class was fabulous. You had to read and work hard and post comments on line, but worth all the work. Professor Howey made me really understand the characters. She loves literature.
Worst teacher I had yet. She was indecisive with her assignments and unclear. She did not would call her students liars when the whole class would have issues with our emails. Also she often said inappropriate thing. Also she would accuse students of cheating with no backing or evidence
The most disorganized teacher I have ever encountered. There was a lot of work which is to be expected but you did not know assignments ahead of time. Horrible at keeping up with grades. She makes it extremely hard to be a successful student
I had her a few years back. I thought she was good. She was very kind and respected her students . The assignments were easy to understand and the class was very fun. Her lectures were entertaining and she even tried to be funny at times. The only thing I didn't like was at end of the semester our grade depended on how many final papers we'd submit

This professor was extremly unorganized, she was unclear on assignments and would criticized and judge students' opinions. She would not post our grades to Black Board. I would not advise anyone to take this class. Although, she is very passionate about English, has a witty sense of humor. But not worth the stress for ANYONE!
Worst teacher I have ever had. She was not clear and It was almost as If I was taking a black history English class because everything that I was assigned had to be on that topic. English is my favorite subject and she made it the class I dreaded the most!
She is passionate about English but she is disorganized, forgetful and rude. I felt uncomfortable at some of her comments toward African American students in her class.
Easy class, only doesn't give A's at all. No one in my class got an A. Even if you meet with her! Do not take if you want an A
Probably one of the worst teachers ever! I strongly advise that you do not take any of her classes. The class I took was supposed to be an English class, but it was more like a Black History class. I worked by butt off to get an A all semester to keep my scholarship, but she refused to give any As out until the very end!
She genuinely means well, but the intent is lost among her irregular homework announcements and inability to communicate. The semester is half over and we have only just begun to focus on actual literature--before it was paintings and music. There is nothing wrong with teaching a Black History class, but she should stop pretending this is English.
I am taking her English 102 online class now. The worst professor I've had in my years of college. She is rude when responding to emails and doesn't return phone calls. I also feel like I'm in a Black History class. EVERYTHING is about Black History. I still wouldn't recommend her to anyone even tho I'm passing her class.
Class was all about the Harlem Renaissance. If interested in that you might enjoy the class. If not, DO NOT take this class. She grades very unfairly. On the final paper, I received a lower grade than she gave me on my rough draft. You'll spend hours rewriting a paper and still end up with the same grade or worse. She is making tutoring mandatory.

She's a nice women. But has an attitude on her, she doesn't like when people ask questions and her entire class is about black history. Which does absolutely nothing for my major. We'd have class Monday & Wednesday so there's a few days in between and she'll post Mondays homework Sunday night! Seriously?? Class is also pretty boring.
Don't take her class if you want to pick your own topics, she's obsessed with the Harlem Renaissance and it's all she talks about.

Professor Howey is the BEST professor I have ever taken at Montco. She was always so uplifting and in a great mood. Come to class and just do the homework she says and you will have no problem with this class. We read a book in the beginning of the semester but didn't really finish it. We wrote a paper a week and she gave great feedback on them.
Mrs. Howey was awesome! However, she is NO JOKE when it comes to attendance:(
My first few essays were far better and had less mistakes than many peoples last few essays. However, revisions must be done (regardless of quality of the work) in order to keep students "busy". If you already know basic formatting for essays, proper punctuation, and grammar rules, this class is entirely a waste of time and resources.
Great professor. She can be a tad picky on how you submit and layout certain assignments but otherwise she is a good choice. The course itself is an easy A as long as you do the work. She was a little slow with grading but never bothered me. Great with feedback and emailing back in a timely manner. You will have to work with classmates a little.
WORSE PROF EVER!!! Does not go by syllabus, expects you to figure out own grade and does not use blackboard. She takes for forever to grade, maybe a month or more to grade papers. Rude to students. Just a horrible experience overall
Probably the worst English class I've taken in all of my years as a student. Class material is so boring, all you do is write papers w/ the occasional elementary level grammar lesson. Too strict about phones & makes jokes that are more creepy than funny. Is rude to students who don't understand material. Overall awful experience. Very disappointing
Mrs. Howey is an excellent teacher. She's fair and honest in her grading. She is a very kind, caring and supportive woman and teacher. I absolutely love her.
I had a great time with Professor Howey. She became a mentor of mine which was much appreciated as I was going through a hard time. She tries to get through to each and every one of her students and provides them with individualized attention. She was a great professor for my first real college experience and I'm still close with her today!
Very hard/picky grader, doesn't answer emails on a timely matter. Also, will assign homework and forget to give the details until the night before it's due. Some of her comments aren't very professional. Wouldn't take a class with her again.

The assigned literature and poems are non-traditional and very much in keeping with a younger generation. Most of the stories had protagonists in their 20's. Can be a little frustrating as not everything she assigns is in a textbook. Discussion heavy class, if you like discussing literature this is the perfect place to do it.
I dont like her teaching but Im stuck with her theres nothing I can do! I would never recommend her.
Professor Howey was a great professor. She took time to get to know students, even though the class was fully online, and she left concise feedback on all of our work. She is very passionate about her work, so if you are an English major or interested in literature at all I 100% recommend her!
Professor Howey is one of the best teachers I've ever had! She's Extremely intelligent and offers personalized help to all of her students. I took an online course with her, and it was really easy to see just how much everyone learned throughout her class. I highly recommend taking any class with her.
Howey was a mediocre teacher at best. I do not know why at a college level we need to be taught how rhyming works. It felt like being back in early high school English especially when she got very ticked off when students did not participate. She very clearly picks favorites and tries to be the fun teacher but comes off super cringey.
Had to email the professor because she forgot to post assignments on time. The work load is double any of the other classes I have taken (and most classes I have taken were 6 week accelerated! This was a 12 week class)You have to post discussion board posts multiple times in a week and then go back and post on them again weeks later or loose points
She assigns way too much work and then grades frustratingly slow. You only know how you did TWO MONTHS after you submit your work (that behind). Had obvious favorites. Once she said, and I quote, she "wants to marry" one of the students among other inappropriate comments toward them, which was uncomfortable. Arbitrarily grades. Way too verbose.
Awful. Assigned a lot of opinion papers, but is only interested in her opinion. Downgraded a paper because she wanted me to write about a singer naked in the shower. Very slow at grading, does it at the last minute, then blames you. Does not follow her own syllabus, makes last minute changes to guidelines and floods you with nonsense.
Very difficult and unnecessary class. I took it because enjoyed reading but she made me hate it. Three discussion in one week and she takes a month to grade it. Midterm paper was confusing even tutoring couldnt help me. Shes rude and condescending to students and expects you to be a mind reader she forgets homework and blames students. Horrible!!!
I am someone who has always loved English classes, but this one was by far the worst Ive ever taken. She assigns anywhere from 6-8 discussion posts a week, and then doesn't grade until 3-4 weeks later. She expects students to be mind readers.
Please do not take her . You never know what your grade is the whole semester. She makes assumptions about based on papers you write . Your papers are not good enough if they are not what she could put .
Took this course because i love poetry... writing and reading.. not so much analysis. The class was not what I thought it was but she didn't make it any better. Made unnecessary comments under students posts where EVERYONE could see. Often compared students works publicly. Wanted SO many discussion post it was ridiculous. 3/10 do not recommend.

This class is not hard for people good at English. We read two books that are easy. There is constant grammar homework that's redundant. Has not graded anything since the beginning of semester. Had 3 papers and none of them have been put into the gradebook, but she allowed revisions. This class is a waste of time honestly and I'm a marketing major.

Creepiest teacher I've ever had. She called me hot and attractive in front of my gf (im a guy). Later she wrote this in an email to me, "You would look great in a little red lipstick and black eyeliner! Seriously." She would also make other creepy comments on Zoom classes. But what just adds to this is that she didn't grade half of my assignments.

Professor Howey is undoubtedly one of the worst educators I have encountered. Her biased teaching style affects grading and discussions. Assignments are excessive and unrelated, leaving students overwhelmed. She lacks empathy, belittles students, ignores emails for weeks, and displays anger. Avoid her courses for a toxic learning environment.
I have never rated my own professors. This professor in specific has gotten me so mad up to the point where I had to come on here. She is not respectful when commenting back feedback, and is also the slowest grader and assigns a lot of work. I had no spring break due to this teacher!
I was unaware of RMP, before her course and I'm glad I was oblivious to it! Professor Howey is a phenomenal leader, very detailed & fair (w/ regards to grading, different perspectives, & new concepts). She's well-versed on a plethora of topics & is thoughtful, responsive & gives valuable feedback. Check her out for yourself! I'm glad I did!
Made insulting comments on public discussion posts to other students. Trashed some posts and loved some others. She would tell the people she trashed to look at the others post that she liked. She had announcements where she would say by name who had the best response on the discussion board. Pretty much trashing everyone else and their efforts.
Her homework isn't difficult, but since you need to read two short stories a week and answers questions on them, it can be time heavy, but not more than expected from a Lit. course. Her feedback is very detailed, and has made me chuckle. When I asked for office hours the day before an assignment, she called me a few hours afterwards, very kindly.
Great professor, replies to email quickly and has office hours daily. Course is homework heavy, if you include the required reading. I don't think it's by choice, literature is a time-suck in general. Do not take this course if you're pressed for time. But for what the course is, she makes it much less painful than it'd be otherwise.
Horrible teacher. She grades slowly, she's inappropriate in class. She's confusing. She doesn't respond to emails on time. The midterm was confusing. I still don't know what I'm doing in this class. Gives a bunch of homework but doesn't grade anything.
If I could give this professor a negative rating I most definitely would. I took the class just to fill a credit and it was hands down the worst class ever. She assigned so much homework. Discussion posts after discussion posts. She would make something due on a Friday, but wouldn't post it till Thursday night. If you can avoid this teacher, DO IT.
Sort of rude to be honest. A lot of work, which is fine; but she doesn't grade until the end of the semester, feedback at times is almost insulting...? Class itself isn't difficult, but she's not very friendly in terms of guiding you in the right direction. She does ghost emails at times... She's also aware of RMP and rates herself a 5 on here...
I'm not sure where I stand in this class, as she has only graded two out of many homework assignments. She uses her own opinions to form grades and assumes there is only one way of understanding a story. It is highly unfortunate that this is one of the only "advanced" English teachers MontCo offers.

-Professor does not grade in a reasonable time frame. I never even saw the grades for my midterm and finals, because she never uploaded them to Canvas! Hastily graded all work in the last 3 of the course, which was a 6 week accelerated course. My grade in Canvas shows over a 100%, while my final grade that was uploaded is an A-. Make it make sense.
