Worst professor I have come across. Reads off of powerpoints and makes up words, trails off into her own mumble. Very unapproachable and makes students feel they are destined to fail. Expects way too much for a course like this. Mandatory participation/attendance. Avoid her at all costs.

I have a minor in anthropology so I though I would like this class. Dr. Strand is boring, usually monotone, trails off and mumbles and she has powerpoints so half the class never pays attention. You miss 2 classes and your grade is impacted. The work is fairly easy, discussion posts each week but you mainly get 8/10 so don't expect too much.

Her teaching style feels dull as she teaches primarily through powerpoints and often has filler pauses in her lectures. The assignments aren't too difficult, the discussion posts typically get 7-9/10. She is a nice person and the material can be interesting at times. Overall the class is dull, but easy to pass so long as you keep up with the work

She's terrible. Don't take her! She mumbles, reads off the powerpoint, you can't get anything better than an 8.5 - 9/10 on discussion posts. She's not clear on anything she wants from you and no textbooks means that everything is jumbled. This class could be online yet she makes her class mandatory. She's terrible in every single way. AVOID HER!

She is a nice person, but not a very good teacher. We had 10 discussion board posts (dbp) that were each worth 10 points, but I've only gotten a 10 once. Her tests are short answer like the dbp's, and whatever you get on the dbp's is pretty much what you would get on the exams. I work hard for A's, but I barely even got an A- in that class.

WOW these reviews are wrong. I skimmed the readings, attended every class (boosts participation), took laptop notes so I wasn't bored, and occasionally raised my hand, and I came out with an A-. The secret for getting 9's on discussion posts = compare reading to another reading in class, quote the reading twice, add a real life comparison/example.

Dr. Strand is an overall okay teacher. She reads off powerpoints and summarizes the readings, making the text books useless. If you work hard, you CAN get a good grade. 10s on discussion board posts are tough to attain, but a 9 is easy. The main issue here is that STRAND MUMBLES. As long as you take notes on her powerpoints in class, you don't have to do any of the readings (the only backfire to this is that she often mumbles so it's difficult to hear her speaking). I love Dr. Strand!! She's such an engaging professor and makes every class interesting. Between lecturing the slides she puts students into small groups which is really helpful in breaking up the lesson. There are weekly quizzes, nightly readings, 5 forum posts, 3 exams, and an ethnographic project, but it is honestly very manageable. TAKE HER!!!!

She's so knowledgeable and the information she presents is so different than any other class at Loyola. Definitely the most organized prof I've ever had. 3 tests, 4 forum posts, and small group work and discussion every class. I loved her class!

Strand is super sweet! Her lectures are interesting, and are always balanced with discussion questions. Short weekly online quizzes with the readings. Exams are pretty easy if you're taking decent notes. Really interesting course!

Honestly she is okay. She can be nice but she can also be a little rude. If you want an average professor take her.

She's nice and approachable, but overall is average. Lectures are not that engaging and I don't really care for the small group discussions. She won't cold call, but participation is part of your grade. Course work is not heavy and is very manageable, there's reading but books can be found online. Would recommend but not outstanding

An engaging lecturer that made me choose to major in Anthropology! Prof Strand is super smart and keeps anthropology relevant to us constantly with in-class discussions. Weekly quizzes sometimes caught me by surprise, but they are easy. Just do the readings (which are actually SUPER interesting!)

I've taken Dr. Strand for the last 3 semesters in a row and I plan to take every single one of her classes for the rest of my college career. She is so kind and so knowledgeable and engages her classes in incredibly interesting discussions. My class became best friends and we learned so much through her curriculum. Take Strand and 330!!!

Doesn't matter how much you participate if she doesn't like you she will dock your participation grade ALOT. She doesn't like having kids attend office hours (I went and she tried to not come). Ended with a borderline grade and wouldn't round up. Expects way too much out of tests. Honestly just unreasonable for any class let a lot a 100.

I'm so confused by the negative reviews (that were all written on the same day?? kinda sus...) Dr. Strand is incredibly smart, light for a college workload. There's no final exam, participating points can be earned in online forum too, minimal studying needed for good score on tests, and she is very kind. Makes me consider changing my major to anth

Light lecture load, mostly discussion based class. Not too heavy for a writing intensive class, and you have lots of time to write the essays required. No quizzes, no tests, just weekly forum posts. Content is interesting and leads to fun class discussions. More class lead and professor facilitated. Take this for WI requirement if you can!

seems that the same person is review bombing her for whatever personal reason they have, so Im here to say that their reviews are not accurate. Dont get me wrong, lectures are boring at times and she's really average, but if you want an avg teacher who can support you then pick her. Homework is not terrible its avg; its just a moderately cool prof.

Dr. Strand was a good professor however, I found it hard to get decent grades on assignments that I had put effort into. Lots assignments that were graded really made my grade fluctuate, mainly the 3 main projects for the class. It was especially difficult since the grading scale for this class was different than most of my other classes.

Dr. Strand is an excellent professor, and while there is a decent amount of reading it is very manageable as there is very other homework for the class. Don't trust the one person spamming negative reviews, she is very understanding and accommodating to students. This is my second time taking her course and I would highly recommend her!

Dr. Strand is good at listening and helping students understand concepts to its fullest. She is very chill and has a good vibe to her overall. She grades fairly and her class made me become more interested in anthropology b/c of how passionate she is about it. Reading isn't too heavy but I would recommend doing it b/c they will be on the exams.

A very chill, well-meaning professor. She makes you feel good about yourself when participating in class and appreciates you relating anthropology to your own life. A very interesting class that made me understand more about cultures around the world. She is very respectful, understanding, and grades fairly. Just try reading the texts if you can.

Boring. Professor Strand is kind and can be helpful, but the class is a drag. It is easy to earn an A in her class; she will tell you everything on the exams. The rest of your grade is essentially participation and open-book take-home quizzes. DO NOT SKIP and DO NOT FORGET the quizzes. If you slack for 2 weeks your grade can drop really bad.
