He is very helpful and he is also clear about the course requirments!!
He is helpful and very nice professor...
Easy to understand. Tests are straightforward, his grading is very subjective.
Grades based on how well you can kiss his ***. Do not learn anything.
Very unclear and biased. Does not explain material or concepts well. Grades unfairly.
Haallo! Very funny with strong Greek accent. What he lectures in class is exactly what will be on exam. No need to read book for 171A.
egotistical dude in pink shirt. thought 5-7 lesson calculate this lessons. don't buy the book. it's useless. make up the numbers in your homework, he doesn't check them, work very fast on the exam and try not to screw up;he could be funny & a total a-hole
take notes. no need to read or buy book. go to class. do homework. laugh at his jokes. do all that and you should get a B...take all that for granted and get a C like me!
One of the best Professors in the finance department. I actually looked forward to going to class. Do your work and you'll be fine.
Excellent Teacher!!! "HAAALLOO? Is it me you're looking for?"
Well... I have to say he is one of the most memorable teachers I have ever had. He is an excellent lecturer; especially for the material he teaches. At times a bit emotional, but that's what made class enjoyable. Who wouldn't want to take this Professor&
The GREEK is crazy. So different from regular teachers. Hes cool. Take him. Not too much HW. But watch it, he eats students food... :-)
if you want a class that wakes you up, take this guy.just make sure you know how to work the calculator, like adding.other wise he'll say that your playing piano on it.but just have good lecture notes...and his exams are exactly like it.crazy guy but fun.
Funniest teacher ever! Has us laughing the whole time...sings and knows he's cool. This is one Greek that you won't want to miss.
Funny Teacher, loves to gamble, gives great lectures and motivates you to understand the material. Gives hw but it is not graded. Test are based on lectures, but not enough time to finish it, just work fast and complete the exam, he gives free points.
Awful teacher
If you really want to learn something don't take his class. He is a great person, but not a great teacher. Let's just say that in his class you will learn about him more than about finance.
Nice personality but likes to ask about your personal life. I wish he teaches differently. He thought that his students never travel and never been to Greece or Italy. Prefers boys than girls. But he reminds his students to study harder.
50% final, 30% midterm, 20% hw(everyone gets 20% for hw, he doesn't check hw) and gives a curve at the end of the class. very funny guy and cares alot for his students. a bit intimidating but you really learn alot about finance and about his life! NIAOW!
He's very entertaining. His exams don't have any surprises. He goes over exactly what's gonna be on them. He really wants students to learn and make it. Was somewhat unsure of how I was doing, but ended with a B-. Curves too.
Very good professor, if you want to learn, this is the class for you! Was not an easy class, but if you did everything he asked you to do, guaranteed A!
I love this guy. Great person, i had lunch at his house. But from here till saying he is a good teachr??? he is ok.
Probably the best business teacher I had. Has lots of energy, good comedian, and gives you alot motivation to do the work. If you put in the work then you would be fine. (P.S. many students write bad reviews in order to get into a class)
great teacher! i took three finance classes with him and did great. Teaches what you need to know without all the b/s. I was able to use everything he taught in my other classes. Classes are always packed. If you do decide to take him, get ready to work!
Gives you exactly what you need to know, and you need to practice it. Do all the homework and you should be good for the test. Great teacher, and he makes you want to learn.
Not very patient (never ask him about homework once he's done explaining the assignment!), but cares about his students and is very funny in class. "Don't write -- I'm going to break your fingers!" Doing your HW will help on exams.

Dr. Pantos is one of the few teachers at SJSU that will be honest with u and wont B.... S... you. He tells you exactly what is going to be in the midterm, if you dont study you will flunk, but if you study you will get an A.
Drill drill drill. If you dont do well, you should change majors. Great class! (If only Themi could teach BJC how to teach) Love ya Pantos! Thanks!
Such a cutie and is really a great guy!Likes to make jokes-something about kity?
One fact about this professor is that he FAVORS students, u can easily find two students doing the same work one gets A and the other gets C, why? becuase he simply like that student, which's UNFAIR!!!
Great teacher. If you do the work and practice the problems, theres no way you cant get an A in the class. I mean c'mon, he tells you EXACTLY what he wants.
Get ready to hear him talk about his millions and the stock deals he's been in. Also he loves talking about his green BMW - 740 and how he can't drive and smoke at the same time. He will get up on desks/tables and shout if the class does bad and will look for his KITTY! Very Entertaining and GREEK
Take him! Easiest teacher if u go to all lectures. Lectures based on Exams. He tells u exact questions in lecture that is on exam, just changes numbers around. Very chill and funny! Get to know him outside of class, and he will respect u more than a regular student in class. MICKY MOUSE! PAR VALUE!
Calling Themis Pantos a professor is an insult to his colleagues. Themis Pantos has no manners, no ethics, and no respect. Avoid him at all costs!!. He is unethical because he plays favoritism. He has no manners because he shouts, discriminates, and uses vulgar laguange among other things.
Dr.Pantos genuinely cares about his students, and is very funny in class -- in fact, he is excellent at combining finance and comedy! Very straightforward in his lecture; just do the work he asks you to do, and you will get an "A"; either that or, he warns, "you will get a 'fantastico'!" XLNT PROF!
I have to second the previous post -- Dr.Pantos is clear, genuinely caring and very funny in class. "Don't write -- I'm going to break your fingers!" (Forgive him, he's Greek!)
Tugh class. You are expected to be there for every lecture and spend a ton of time on homework, but he is a good guy. Very entertaining...he will sing for you if the class is dazing off. If you are worried about favoritism join him during the breaks and talk to him about non-school stuff. He's real.
Sure he makes the class fun..... but, in his lectures u cant learn crap!!!!!!!! Dont even try to ask a question because he will not answer you... all he will say is I wiwll see u next semester!
Pantos is OK. His lectures are entertaining, but he can get crabby and annoying too. You will ONLY learn formulas. Don't buy the book, tests are 100% from lecture. If you take good notes & study and the tests aren't too hard. If you want entertainment, take Pantos, if you want to learn about finance, take someone else.
He is very interesting and makes things very easy to understand. He teaches the subject applications with references to every day life. Although I found this class to be a little on the hard side, it was my favorite business class and is the most useful outside of school.
A categorical disappointment from beggining to end. He doesn't know how to teach: he keeps getting off topic. His lectures are annoying and useless. He is irritating, and OBNOXIOUS!!! Take Dubil, Roden, Campsey, Zaima, even Hartjoto, but avoid obnoxious Pantos!!
pantos is awesome teacher. I dont know how everyone thinks his class is hard. He teaches you what you need to know which exactly are on exam. For all those haters out there, F*** Off. Pantos is hella funny and nice. Get to know him out of class and he will be much nicer to you. ppl dont like him cuz they dont know him. Tests Easy go to lecture!
he's a very funny and shows interests in the class. however, he never follow the books. he always handwriting down the notes and expect us to understand all.. it's very unclear sometimes. because all the problems don't come with correct answers. but i still get A anyways. hard work n self study counts !
Pantos is like a European vacation. I wish all professors would be half as funny, entertaining and clear of their expectations as Pantos. You shouold expect to study (as in every college course!)but in this class you can also have fun. Although, yes he can be full of himself and I know that this good review of him will not help :-)
Meeting Pantos, and taking his classes was one of the best events happened in my life. He has a very interesting character. He is cool, very outspoken and doesn't like to BS. You won't only learn the course subject, but also good lessons of life. HE IS SOOOOOO COOl.
One of my favorite professors in the Business Department.
The best Finance teacher there is...
Prof. Pantos is very entertaining but also very serious about what he is teaching. You will learn many formulas that you can use in your everyday life.

He doesn't enjoy teaching in the MBA program and he says that openly. Most of the time he is not clear. Avoid him, unless you enjoy being humiliated continuously and unnecessarily. His out-of-textbook style is interesting but not worth it. Go for Campsey.
Pantos is a really cool & nice guy, unfortunately I can't say the same for his teaching. He's very unclear & doesn't cover what he's supposed to. Never uses the book & goes off topic all time discussing how rich and smart he is compared to the other professors. 1 midterm, if you screw it up say good bye to the semester. No curve, impossible A.
Good luck getting an A! Tests are written in a confusing style (tells us what you want us to do for christ sake!) and the grading is..odd..to say the least. Assigns a crapload of homework that never gets graded. Teaches NO concepts, just formulas that anyone can figure out. Amusing in class but overrated. Vane.
prof. pantos is awesome. i have to say my favorite teacher of all time. though he may seem a bit vain, he cares an awful lot about his students. this is the one class in finance that was straight forward and interesting. prof pantos is also really funny and entertaining so it'll make the class more interesting and pleasing to learn. just take him.
Make sure you do all of the assigned problems and practice them until you know how to do them very well. That way, you'll score well on the midterm and final. His class wasn't boring, he made jokes all the time. The work was do-able, just need to put some effort into the class. Wasn't a hard class at all.
Compassion not a strong suite, entertaining lecture however.
Overall an excellent professor. Although the toughest prof. I've met in MBA. This doesn't mean he's bad, but rather the topic is hard and the exams are excruciating. However, Prof. Pantos is extremely fair and caring (although he will not want you to think so). Simple advice is to study hard and you'll do fine.

Very entertaining professor, good for the most part. But MAN, this guy can fly off the handle when he gets upset. Maybe it was just the semester (Fall '04), but he really got irritated when nearly half the class failed his INSANE first midterm. It wasn't fair--he blamed the students and yelled. Well, I sure let him know in his instructor evaluation
VERY ENTERTAINING TEACHER. Reads rate my professor! Very subjective grader. Do the homework and you'll pass the exams no problem. See him in his office hours/participate in class and you'll get an "A". You want him to know your name. At times, it is a bit hard to understand him. "Open up your puffy little eyes?" or is it puppy?
this guy is the best possible finance professor you could add at sjsu. class is interesting, he's very enguaging, very little homework (but you should do it). exams are all written but he doesn't surprise you, everything he covers in class is mirrored on the exam. great guy all around - definatly recommend!
yuck! **** type!
I love this guy. He is so funny
Have you taken BUS 171A? You have taken 177 too! Waste of time. Has a great habit of taking money out during class and waving it around. The MOST incosistent professor in regards to formulas and other material. You will wind up with 10 different formulas for the same equation. Take another more useful class. Avoid the headache.
He is a fool! He cracks you up and lecture has no real substance. Just write down everything he says and memorize for the exam and get your A
Come on Pantos, where is my grade? Anyone else in his 177 class that got there grade yet?
He's not hard, but he doesn't give A's.
Awesome professor! You'll learn a lot from him. He knows Finance really well. TIP: Do the homework. Practice. Practice. Practice.
attend all lectures, practice & practice all home work probs. He says, all probs on exams are identical to lectures and home work; it is, but tricky. He tricks you where you do not cross B unelss you are super genius. Overall, very funny and caring prof. only prof that talks about this site in class. may even mention me in class as fool or smart.
Very difficult class and he's acent doesn't help either! He threats to repeat the couse if a student asks questions. But overall just attend class and go over all the questions and homeworks given. good luck cuz theres no way around Prof. Pantos
Take good notes. Study the equations. Do the homework. It's the stupid mistakes that get you so be careful. One of the better finance professors and I wouldn't mind taking him again.
He said he will gives u formulas, but those formulas he gave wasn't that useful b/c he didn't provide u all. The cal. was hard too, everytime come up with different answers.
I got A+ in his class without a textbook. He is super easy to get As if you are good at math, or detail oriented or just need to be accurate and careful about all the calculations. It is more like a high school class whereas everyone should attend, take notes, and do homework (only collect twice per semester).. No need for reading text book.
The best advice to pass this is: You get your coffee, your snack, seat straight and then study until you cry!. LOL
STUDY FOR CLASS. GO TO CLASS. or he will dress up as a monster for halloween and show you his puppy eyes! funny guy. great professor. best finance instructor ever!
not too bad. not too much hw, but exams are too hard..(at lease for me..) formulas on the exam arent helpful, so you have memorize them. i took this class as one of elective, but i should've chosen other class. take other classes if you dont have to take him.
hard to stay awake during class, and you have to study a lot BY YOURSELF. you should avoid him if you have another choice,,,
easy class, homework are never collected, no textbook needed, and professor is hot with a sexy accent..drool...
Despite his humour attitude, this guy is tough! Exam is tricky and taken from other courses. Does not write them specifically for the class. Study your ass off or you will fail!
Great professor.Never upset him.Super funny, but if you don't attend classes and don't do teh homework on your own You will fail.Final is super hard and long.
As he says his class is Mickey Mouse. My mistake was taking two classes with him in one semester and having those finals on the same day. I know I passed both but could have done better taking them in two different semesters. Don't buy the book no matter what he says.
If you study hard you will do very well in this class. Simple as that. What's with all the negative comments? Must be the people who didnt pass the class. Prof. Pantos ROCKS!!! He is hilarious. My advice is to take good notes.
Dr. Pantos has to be, by far, the best finance teacher I have ever taken. I took 5 other classes this semester and this class was a little tuff. Even though I got a C+, i still like him because i deserved that grade. I could got a B, but i had full load of class. If you failed his class, you probably never went to class!!!!
no use of textbook so dont bother buying. pantos is a nice professor but what he teaches in class is baby materials and he always let you go out early, sometimes way too early. overall, nice man and babysits too much. very very easy A though so MEOW MEOW
Very great professor, teaches well and very clearly. Easy class if you do the HW and show up for lecture. Dont need the textbook, but it helps from time to time. Would recommend to everyone. Pantos kicks butt !!!
Professor Pantos is the best and most influential professor I have had at sjsu so far. His class is "mickey mouse" as he will tell you -- but only if you study and attend every class! Listen to him and you will learn a lot! Not only that, but he is funny and entertaining. I love his off-topic rants about culture, politics and incompetent faculty
did anyone take him for the summer? how was his summer section?
Awesome Professor. He's hilarious! Keeps you entertained. Lecture is normally the full period. He knows when you leave early or come late. Be prepared to pay attention in class and you'll do fine.
Got an A but learned nothing. Class was complete waste of time. the guy never prepared for the lectures, did only blah-blah most of the time. Most students love him b/c he's the only finance professor they can pass without understanding and learning anything. Do NOT take him if you wanna learn. It'll be total waste of your time.
Pantos is a great teacher. You do learn in his class and he is also willing to help. I had him for both 177 and 172c. He is a great and funny guy and he grades fairly. If you try in his class you will pass. Just put some effort in and you will learn. Dont think that you can just not show up to class and study day before and expect an A.
Out of all da finance courses I took dis was probably da worst one. U learn a bunch of formulas dat u will probably 4get by da time u get ur grades. It is nothing useful for ur future job. I did not learn anything @ all. Pantos is nice n there is curve but be prepared 4 da midterm & final it is hard & long. All open-end questions. Good Luck!
You'll learn alot about business, politics and what it takes to succeed in general. He does this to extrapolate on the boring subject of Exchange rates. All this stuff he knows are modeled in a software when you start work, so no need to really learn this except the basics. Dr. Pantos knows so much about the world and that's the value added to his
Great Prof. I learned so much from his class about finance among other worldly topics! He is clear& will repeat entire lecture if asked! He gives the questions that will b on the tests in a from of review!Thats all I studied& I attended religiously & I did great! Dr. Pantos is an amazing prof. very approachable and funny! Good luck Alligators :)
Go to class take notes. Go home organize your notes and make them neat and presentable. Study notes and the notes that he will give you. Nothing else will be on the exams but what is given in class.
Dr. Pantos is an excelent professor and I really enjoyed his teachings.
He's funny but I don't like his teaching style. Randomly picks on students and make fun of them, goes too fast, and expects everyone to know the formulas on the spot. Best to avoid this teacher!
Take Him!. He is the best Professor at State!
Dr. Pantos is a nice guy. You will learn world news instead of international finance in his class. Class seems to be easy, but exams were hard. He is a hard grader, deduct many points for a single mistake. You don't learn too much from his class, but have fun that will make your day.
I had Themis twice during my MBA at Rutgers (class of 2000). I've quoted him often & I found his advice to be useful. I'm doing quite well with my degree and thought enough of him to look him up to see what he is doing now. You must stand outside with him during coffee & smoke breaks because that is where you get the most insight.
Dr. Pantos is the most knowledgeable professor in Derivative Securities and other investment portfolios. I learned valuable investment lessons from him.
I love Dr. Pantos. I was lucky enough to have had him twice. He truly cares about his students. I might have him again if I decide to go back to SJSU for my masters. I had a technical interview from ***** and they asked me about calls, puts, futures and options. If it wasn't for Dr. Pantos, I wouldn't have nailed the interview or job. THANKS!
Marvelous Teacher
Very good
Pantos is the best teacher at SJSU by far. If you want a person who truly cares for his students and people in general with a great sense of humor, you've got him here. Pantos is the best finance teacher your going to get, there is no question about it. The rest don't even come close. Thank you Pantos for the best semester. Shqiptari
It's no wonder he won the best teacher award. He's truly the best teacher I've had at SJSU, can't even think who would be second to him. He takes an interest in each and every student, and wants more than anything for every student to understand the material and get an A.
He is the best teacher! I took him over the summer, and his class was very easy. 2 exams, and for midterm you have to memorize everything, for final he will give cheat sheet. He will grade easy if u put in a lot of effort. never even open my textbook, so dont buy it!
Dr. Pantos is the best teacher that I have had so far during my time at SJSU. The material is hard and he calls on students all the time. After the first week of class I set my expectations low and would have been happy with a C, but Pantos helped me achieve an A+. Really brings the best out of his students.
Dr. Pantos is hands down the best teacher I have ever had. He really makes you WANT to come to class everyday. If you listen and actually try to solve problems as he does them in class, you will ace the test. There are no surprises on the tests. Guy posting 6/14/08 - did you learn anything in ANY classes you took in life? You don't type like it
I took his 171B, Commercial Banking last Fall 2011. He is the best professor I've ever had at SJSU. He's not easy because he wants us to succeed in financial career. One Midterm and one Final. The tests were what he'd covered in the class. I wish I could know him sooner. If you want to learn a practical finance and succeed, I recommend Dr. Pantos.
took him for 171b and 177..both classes are pretty similar and easy..just go to class, take notes and you will do more than fine. cant miss class, notes are important, no textbook needed. also take the once a week class (3hrs), he gives you a 45 min break inbetween because he cant last an hour without a personal break
This Professor is Different, most students liked him but I wouldn't take his class again. International Finance is useless subject by itself. Problems on exam same as problems on the board. Shows interest in every student in the CLASS.
Best to avoid this Professor, loses his temperature way too fast! Doesn't really understand finance, just screams at you the formulas that he has memorized over the years. I found his teaching style to be complete nonsense.
I've taken 2 classes with him, and he's thrown a curve-ball on both midterms - something appeared he didn't cover/explain. But he gives you an extra 10 or 15% on the exams. Very little work load, a lot of listening to him go on tangents. A lot of math but not a whole lot of understanding the application. Easy B. Never used text, no projects/papers.
His unpopular version of Warren Buffet, makes himself feel very glamorous, yet forgets his not interested in teaching. I remember last semester his mood was off most of the time, many students didn't do well in his class. He gives bad advice in class such as its ok to divorce, scream and smoke right outside the business building.
Terrible Professor, just couldn't stand him. He himself doesn't understand international business but uses his Professional Waterboarding technique to play with minds of students. His gone for good from SJSU.
He's a nice guy, but your grade is based on how much he knows you, not on the merit of your work. He will write an F on your exam and you won't be able to figure out why. If you ask him, he will change the subject and evade your questions. He's a very corrupt professor, but...he really is a nice guy.
best professor , teach finance in pratical way, mtotivate students, if you dont study u will have Fantastic ;p miss him so much
Be at the class because you'll definitely learn from him!! He is very good at make student to understand what he teaches you! If you miss the class, you're missing great chance to learn the easy way to solve problems. Exam is clear, he only gives you what he said it's gonna be on the exam. you just nee d to study what he told you to do.
If you do not Take Good Notes; and Study the Subject/ Topic discuss in Class. The Final Exam is very Difficult. Go Spartan! Class of 2007!
