Sexy professor!!!
A great guy!
Super SEXXXY
Okay, he's good looking, but not HOT. Plus, the class seemed like high school physics as he took quizzes on the syllabus (for God's sake!). Then, a field trip of the campus! Seriously, be a little college-like, I've had enough of high school.
Excellent teacher. Explains very well.
good teacher notes are easy to follow uses the book as reference, test are a little bit more harder than the quizes, labs are easy ,watch out for s.f. take pts off on labs. Is very helpful and will explain things over and over untill you understand.
Multiple choice on exams worth 5pts each. Watch out. Takes off for everything! Watch those units. Exams are harder than quizzes. Ok, he's cute. Moody though. Seems to be a little biased to students that have taken his PHY 131.
Due to the subject itself, I was really dreading taking this class. Halfway through the semester, though, I realized that I have never had so much fun in a class before. It's not my best subject, but if you are required to take it, Mr. Gotis is the best Physics teacher around.
Seriously forget about all the comments above, im warning you! This teacher is such an ass, although i agree with one comment about him being in highschool, he does not freaking let you even say a word in class, hard grader, tests are so f.... hard, overall he's a dick!
Not ugly - but not hot - kind of scrawny. Total control freak - seems to have the mentality that students are beneath him. Do not talk in class even to ask your neighbor for help or he'll stare you down and ask "Can I help you with something?" or "Question?" If you start to have fun in a class, expect it to end VERY quickly.
he will not curve you grade by 1 mark also!
he is the best physics teacher i have ever had. he is hot, too. he makes you like physics. his teaching tec. are differnt and effective. take his class if you really want to learn physics. he is hard grader, though.
he is such an inconsiderate guy. gave 0 pts for a late lab. no make-up or extra credit. lost an A grade by 3 pts.
If you study, you will get a good grade. He is a good teacher who puts on the tests only the material which was covered in the class. He is a fair grader, but loves taking points off on the labs for every single detail.
He is stubborn and his grading is very tough. There has to be another teacher you can take. I wouldn't recommend him.
He is a hard grader, likes to take points for every single detail. But if you want to learn physics, take his class.
Great Teacher. VERY Helpful, outgoing. Teaches everything you need to know about physics. Take him if you need physics for a future test. His a great teacher. Very helpful. His grading is fair. You have to study hard in order to get an A. It is possble only if you bust your but. Thanks Gotis. Your a great teacher.
Good teacher. Fair grader. I enjoyed that class. Quite funny.
Excellent teacher!! very clear and detailed explanations. very willing to help and takes extra time to explain if needed. He makes the material very interesting and as entertaining as physics can get. Hes also a funny guy. If you pay attention in class and do the homework you will do great.
Good teacher. You will learn the basics of physics. Is very clear about what is expected. Not to hard to get an A.
don't take him
He is amazing. Physics is very difficult subject for me and he made me understand everything. He doesn't give you a lot of homeworks and if you do your work u'll be fine. If you have to take MCAT taking his class will save you.
he was a good teacher overall although i didn't realize it until after the class was over. i wouldn't say he was hot but he definitely isn't the stereotypical plain looking physicist. he tries so hard to be funny that his dorkiness becomes what's funny which makes class entertaining. he's picky about grading though.
This guy is an ass, he plays off like hes nice and trying to be funny but he rather die than give you a 100% on labs. There can be 20 questions and you get one little thing wrong and he will give a 90%. ****! Hes not funny but he keeps making jokes. He does explain things good and its not that hard to get an A but something about him really anno
2 Tests + final, 4 quizzes(1st one is EASY), 3 take home tests, 10ish labs, attendance. Does give partial credit on tests and quizzes. However, on labs, it is extremely difficult to get a 100%(due to sig. figs. and etc). His lectures are somewhat interesting and very clear. Asking him a question out of class is... difficult... I got an A though
i hate this guy. avoid him at all cost. useless when it comes to labs. tries to play nice but you know he WANTS 2 fail u!! has a big head and thinks he invented physics.
Great at teaching but as a whole he's a a mean person. Randomly volunteers students, so anal when it comes to everything. You're not allowed to speak to the person next to you, doesn't like the site of a cell phone, he doesn't trust the students that he'll provide a crappy calculator to use, and thinks thewhole world is cheating.
no curves, you will be 100 times betteroff taking it with person like Carzoli, who's got a PhD and teaches the subject very well as well as CARING ABOUT STUDENTS,if you get 79.9, that's a C,if you get 89.99 that's a B,no room for points, your grade is on only test and labs, that he never gives you hints about, nobody gets A's,with Carzoli many A's
Best teacher ever : )
He knows lot about physics and is excited about the subject. However, you are better off taking with other professors. I have final tommorrow, wish me luck.
worse teacher!!! treat his students like a little kid!!! very lazy!!!
He knows his stuff for sure and is generally willing to answer questions in class... however I would not recommend him unless you can tolerate arrogance and lame jokes for 2hr 20min twice a week. Very inflexible teacher.. if you have a good understanding of physics to begin and like a fast paced teacher you may love him.. not for me though.
excellent teacher, helped me fall in love with physics. His labs are tough , but if you study regularly you can get an A
Good Teacher! Fair and Requires the student to work hard!
Prof. Gotis most of the time is a decent teacher. He will get lost in some proof that you will never use again and waste most of the class time on it. At the end of class when he gets to useful examples he runs short on time. The tests are fair, you need to study a lot for them though, its a hard class if your taking it you should understand that.
You would rather shoot yourself in the foot....HORRIBLE...CONFUSING...and not interesting at all.
Awful awful teacher, bad personality
has difficult requirements, doesnt take arguments well, isnt clear when teaching, hardly helpful while asking questions, impossible to understand when explaining concepts, makes jokes that arent funny, doesnt adiquetly explain materiel and doesnt know physics
Total gpa killer and cares nothing about your futures. You WILL get a grade lower than what you truly deserve (your effort is futile). You won't fully comprehend the material because HE doesn't fully comprehend the material as much as he likes to think he does. NO NOTESHEET FOR EXAMS IN A PHYSICS CLASS?! Condescending, insecure and annoying.
Class is easy, labs are pointless, quizzes are straight out of lecture, and exams are tough. Avoid him if you can
There are 10 Labs, 3 Quizzes, 3 Tests & 3 Take Home Tests. He is very clear in explanations but is very tough on labs. But he is lenient on Quizzes and Tests & gives a lot of partial credit. He is very intelligent & has a good sense of humor & also discusses other physics related topics. You really have to work hard to get a good grade in his class.
BRUTAL class. Those who did the best-were those retaking it.For those that aren't(like me),u have to work REALLY hard to do well.I got a B,resulting in my other courses suffering. For those that wana do well:EAT,SLEEP,and BREATHE PHYSICS.His offices hours are useless, rarely answers ur questions. His final was INSANE-study VERY hard. Be VERY prepared
Take Carzoli for 222. I heard you can use your own notesheet and calculator. This guy's equation sheet is ridiculous and the calculators he "assigns" are a joke.
I hated Physics before I took this class, now I find it to be one of my favorite classes. People who thinks he's difficult/not fair are typically your lazy students & want an easy A. That won't happen in this class. You have to study, which is why we're in school to begin with. He doesn't allow cell phone use which I'm happy about bc it's annoying.
Fair professor, however, will not budge on any rules. Whatever is written within the syllabus, cannot be bent. Always willing to answer questions, and explains things pretty clearly. Attendance is mandatory, and he takes attendance within 2 min of beginning of class, so be there 5 min early. I enjoyed his class, tests and quizzes are very fair.
Be prepared to work harder than you expected for a grade that's less than you expected
Never gives you 10/10 on lab reports. Gets mad when you ask questions. Crazy about attendance (you MUST NOT be late). No extra credit or rounding up. I got a B because I got 89.87%. I told him that I might have to quit school if I get B and don't get scholarship, he didn't give a damn. Take physics somewhere else or with someone else.
He is a really good professor!! Unfortunately his class is not easy. He grades really hard on labs, and quizzes and tests are fair. You will have to do the homework problems and study your notes in order to understand the concepts and get a good grade in the class. Don't be rude in class, keep your cell phone out of sight, and just pay attention.
In class he is really charismatic and explains topics in detail. However, I found that outside of class he wasn't very helpful, and grades a bit harshly. If you ask me, he is tired of teaching. He doesn't assign an overwhelming amount of work, but is vague about testable material. Homework he assigns is never like the quizzes or tests.
Probably one of the best lecturers (organized and effective in teaching). However one of the hardest graders I've had. For how knit-picky he is on labs, you'd expect them to be worth more than 10pts. Not very helpful/flexible. But if you want to learn and get a feel for how a 4 year university is, this is the class to take.
Very hard grader. Homework assigned but not turned in, doesn't reflect off tests or quizzes. Labs are tough to get a 10/10. Take home test due week before exam, graded on completeness not accuracy. It is helpful but hard, he gives the answers to it a few days before the exam. Exams are tougher. Very hard to get an A in the class. But teaches well.
I took this class in a 5week session. The topics were challenging but understandable if you put in the time both in and outside of the classroom. Labs are graded intensely and it must be perfect to receive a 10. Quizzes and tests are straight forward and are often the same questions already done in your notes, or fairly similar. Overall, not bad.
Don't !! Don't think about taking his class !!!
All I can say is THE WORST !!!!!
the worst ever !!!
I did my utmost in his class and then I dropped the class because I found myself doing too much work than my friends in other classes. he is a tough grader (labs, quizzes and test). if you are seeking an (A) so dont take him because you will be disappointed with a (C). it's a hard (B) class. Good luck
He is a really cool guy and an amazing teacher who really tries to make physics interesting & fun. 5 week summer coarse. Grade is labs (tough grader, don't expect perfect scores), quizzes, and 2 tests and a final (the final isn't really too cumulative over summer). My uni has a terrible PHY dept. so I'm super glad I had a great teacher & I'm done.
Took as 5-week summer course but I think it was harder than it would've been at my 4 yr university. Crazy! Grades hard, is completely inflexible, does not care about students, ruined my summer. LOTS of work - class for 4 hrs a day, studied for 4 hrs a day but he expected even more. TAKE IT WITH ANOTHER PROFESSOR!
I took physics 221,22, and 223 with Professor Gotis and couldn't have been happier with the outcome. Lab reports are comprehensive, which may turn some people off, but they're comparable to a 4 yr uni. I now attend U of I at Urbana-Champaign as an Aerospace Engineering student, and I credit that to the challenge of Gotis' classes.
I hesitated on selecting "Tough Grader" because while I was at Oakton his class was one of the more challenging courses I'd taken, but now that I transferred to 4 year university I've found that's not the case. He grades/expects you to know the content from class, text, and homework which fair and you'll find a rarity at higher level institutions.
He's FANTASTIC. Lectures are AMAZING!!! A lot of students (mostly the ones not willing to put in work) complain that he has too many rules. However, while he demands a lot from us (as he should! The stuff is complicated!) His makes sure we know EXACTLY what is expected. If you're committed and enthusiastic about the subject you will do fine!
There are a lot of excellent science professors at Oakton, and Prof. Gotis is one of the best. He is really involved in making sure that students understand the course material, and tries to make lectures fun. Not gonna lie, it's a hard class, but Prof. Gotis gives you all the resources you need to get an A.
I just finished the 5-week PHY 132 class. Gotis's class is definitely a difficult task, but you get what you put in. How I did well: 1. Go to office hours and ask ALOT of questions. 2. Study the hell out of your notes every day! That's the most important part. 3. Circle all relevant equations 3. Don't do homework. Irrelevant for exams.
If you're taking physics at Oakton, you would be doing yourself a disservice by not taking Professor Gotis. His lectures are clear and interesting and he prepares you for the exams like you would not believe. I have never seen a professor in my life that cares about the success of his students like Professor Gotis.
He is pretty chill, I would take him again for Physics 222. Difficulty? Yes, the subject is tough, what can you do about it? Put effort, you'll pass. He is a good teacher, I recommend him. If you are looking for shortcuts, mind as well not take any physics class.
Gotis is a very good professor. Tries not to rush concepts and focuses on them more than the math. Grades are fair. The average in my class I think was around 80 which is better than most other classes. The only things that are essential to do well is to listen in class and do homework.
Probably one of the best teachers I have taken in oakton. He is very chill overall and knows a lot of stuff about engineering for anyone going into the field. Quizzes are base off the Online Homework and he gives a lot of partial credit during test. As long as you study and try a B is easy. If you get a study group a A is very possible.
Perfect lecture. Tests are little difficult but it is fair. Students need to focus on details for perfect lab reports in his class.
I would recommend Gotis because he wants students to understand the material and takes his time. This is a tough class, so prepare to study. Exams are hard, however, he gives A LOT of partial credit. Writing down something relative to the problems will give you some points rather than none. He's are good professor, but I would not take him again
He is the best teacher I ever had. For the first few days I was confused, but after few lectures, reading and do the homework it got easier. So dont worry if you dont understand, just ask him he will explain everything. He is also an easy grader as long as you show your work he will give you credit. Highly recommend him! I was lucky to have him.
A real stand-out among professors at Oakton! One of the best! Very fair grader, but expect to work hard for a great grade and study long for the tests - it is a difficult subject, after all. If you are confused or have any questions just ask. Don't be afraid of him, he cares about his students A LOT. Would definitely take his course again!
Amazing guy! Super loveable. You can tell hes been doing this for a long time. Really knows his stuff! Attendance matters! Not so much the book. There is a lot of self-teaching in this class. He makes you figure it out and work it through it first. Worked for me. Take good notes, his tests are predictable once you figure out his flow. (PPT & Hmwk)
For those that don't like PHY or if it isn't a strong subject, hear me out!! Bc Gotis is a very caring and approachable professor, I've become better at PHY. Yes, his class could be challenging at times and stressful. But in those moments, take every opportunity to ask questions and meet him during his office hours. You'll end up an A. I promise!
Gotis is amazing. He REALLY wants you to understand the material. I had the honor to take him in class & online (Thanks Corona) and he made me look forward to this class every week. He doesn't make it feel like a 5 credit hour class at all. Highly, Highly Recommend. No pre-lab readings and simple postlabs. If you print out hw and do it all.. easy A
Gotis was one of my favorite professors of my entire academic career. If you are considering a career in Engineering or Physics do yourself a favor and take his class! Be prepared to work in groups to solve problems and have meaningful discussions about physics. Put in the work, show up to class, and participate in class and you should get an A!
Prof. Gotis is an excellent professor. Physics is a challenging subject for me, but his teaching style of doing problems together in class put the concepts into action so I could do well on my own once I got to exams. He is clear, helpful, and reasonable. He is also very responsive and got my letter of rec done in record time. Highly recommend!!
He has a teaching style that requires critical thinking which is perfect for those students who want to develop their skills and interact with their fellow peers to solve problems. I realized that many students would complain about the professor because of this reason. I think his teaching style changed my life. He has helped me out in so many ways
Professor Gotis is great! He made online teaching so much easier and relaxed. He was very open to extending due dates and encouraged us to ask questions without making us feel dumb when we did. He works hard to get our grades in and takes the time to help us individually. Would definitely take him again!
I remember really enjoying Gotis's class even during the online portion in the second half (Covid) of the semester. I found his teaching style to be really great and approachable. His exams and quizzes are fair, but you do need to study a good amount as the course ramps up a bit in difficulty in the 2nd half. Probably the best Oakton Science prof.
Loved Gotis. Tests were very fair. If you do the homework and suggested practice problems from the syllabus you will be prepared for the exams.
I have had professor Gotis for Physics I and II. He is a terrific professor and really gives great feedback. He is ready to help any student and is truly relatable. He does connect with the class on his passions in Jazz and Starwars to name a few... Overall, very great professor, and I highly advise you to give the course a try.
Prof Gotis sets you up not only for success but he is very polite and understanding that it makes you want to do good. I never would do in person classes but I am happy to have encountered this class. It is a long class but he gives you a break and makes the class interactive with others.
The best Physics professor at Oakton, and one of the best professors at Oakton period. He cares a lot about every student and gives ALOT of partial credit for exams (if you set up a problem correctly, you get 80%). Doesnt do many typical lectures, mostly group work to learn topics with short explanations. He also gives extra credit for Exam 1 and 2
The perfect professor for anyone taking physics. I took him for both Physics 1 and Physics 2, and they were some of my favorite classes I'd ever taken. His tests are completely based on things we do in class, making them fairly easy as long as you pay attention and practice. You're not graded on much, so there's very little busy work. Love him!
Anyone who takes Gotis's classes knows he is the goat. He is such a great professor and you ACTUALLY LEARN. Isn't lecture heavy - provides plenty of worked through examples in class and is so kind you'll be wishing he taught more classes
Easy way to pass PHY 121 and 122. One of my favorite proffesors.
Gotis is very personable, and I would take his class again. He makes physics concepts very simple and easy to understand. Approachable Professor.
