Hard to understand a Professor who stutters.

I enjoyed this class. He knows his stuff but expects people to pay attention and study. As long as you put the time in and know how to write decently, you will do well. Also, attend every class meeting if possible.
Also enjoyed his class. If you attend everyday you will get through the class. Take notes. He's not tough if you at least turn in your work.
Dr. Kallman is a very helpful and good profesoor.
Dr. Kallman is a good instructor who likes his students to show up on time and pay attention. He DOES NOT studder though. He is very smart, and knows his stuff. Although his lectures can be a little on the "long" side they are interesting and in
Dr. Kallman is a good teacher. He expects good work and attendence, but if you do that you will pass. I appreciate a teacher that takes his job seriously and has a passion for what he is teaching.

do not take a 7AM class with dr. kallman. it is nearly impossible to stay awake! very dull.
I hated this class, and history is my best subject. He has pop quizes that are taken before he even talks about the material. I am doing nursing and I got an A in Mircobiology, which is like the hardest class at delta, and I ended up with a B in Kallmen's.
Don't you hate smart people who complain about a "B"? Very easy class. You're suppose to do the reading BEFORE hand, which is why he quizzes you in the first place. Its called a syllabus, read it. Papers are easy. He gives essay tests, but he grades more on content than on grammar. If you do the reading and LISTEN to lecture, you should do fine.
Kallman is passionate about history and it intrigued me and i hate history. All you have to do is do the reading before class which he tells you to read ahead of time. His tests seem scary at first but if you do the reading you will do fine. Interact in lectures it helps. He is a great teacher.
Extremely intelligent with a cynical sense of humor. Be prepared for nothing but pure lecture for at least an hour, and at least 1-2 hours of homework dedication (which is just reading the book). There will be a book critique at the end of the semester, so prepare for that EARLY. Teaching methods: That of a UC Berkeley professor. Hard, but good.
Very dedicated teacher. Knows his stuff. Requires his sudents to actually do their work, but has a reasonable amount of work to do at any time. His passion and love of the subject really shines through.
This class is only hard for students who do not try. I love this teacher, he's my favorite at delta so far. He is one of the few teachers I've had who really care about teaching. He really wants his students to work for their grade, he's the best
Dope teacher, quizzes are not bad if you do the readings and the tests are even easier if you were present for most of his classes there's no reason you could fail

He's the best history teacher on campus. Though he does have difficult tests, he teaches you how to love history. He makes history come alive, and not as some boring memorization of facts, dates, and events. He should be in a university!
I took him again. Great experience. You can get an A or B if you show up, do the readings, and listen to lectures. He's a cool teacher.
This class was easier, than US History I and II. He just kept getting better with each class. I took my last class with him in Spring 2004.
He's a great teacher. He made me love history, when I came in hating history. He gives you a quiz on the reading material. Some have said that he tests over stuff not covered...that's not true. You are supposed to read the material first, then you take

entertaining
Very clear on what he has to say and passionate. His quizzes take a lot out of you, but you just need to read the work ahead of time. His lectures are interesting and he makes taking notes easy to do. I recommend his class to anyone who wants to learn.
Warning to all students. Dr. Kallman expects you to do the threaded discussions by analyzing. If you do any of them from the book, then most people will not receive credit for their work he has done. I was very confused with his tests and quizzes he gave. It was hard to find the answers in the book to questions he asked. Just be careful everyone.
Ted Kallman seemed to be very passionate about his subject but it stops there. No help was given to anyone who needed it. He runs the class according to his liberal agenda and even ADMITS it! His non-stop bashing of current religious and political beliefs were very upsetting. I ended up dropping class due to his unfair bias.
Never helped, never cared. His "approval" rating is down among students. Very Liberal and full of his own political views. A "must have" in every HISTORY class.
i actually enjoyed his class. while his views were biased, he was upfront about everything and liked having our input.
I found Dr. kallmans class enlightening, and enjoyed it immenseley. And by the way, everybody has a right to thier opinion,so if you drop his class because you disagree with his opinion, then you're missing the point.
He is an awesome professor that is not afraid of speaking his mind. He is very straight forward with everything. You HAVE TO read his assigned readings in order to get a decent grade. He gives about a quiz a week. If you like history and dont mind a little extra work, take him for sure!
Very critical in everything. negative comments are mostly his choice. ALthough his lectures are very clear. He will sometimes give you history movies to watch, which is not helpful. i dont recommend him.
Difficult class. Need to know the material. I was lazy and stupid, so I failed his class. So...dont be stupid or lazy. Teacher has controversial opinons he likes to share, so keep an open mind. Tests consists of an essay on the topic he chooses, and two Paragraph responses to 5 or 6 key terms.
I took this class over the internet Fall Semester and it was very difficult. He gives a study guide packed with definitions and info, but you'll still come close to failing the tests b/c almost none of the study guide info is on the test. You have 50 questions to answer in 50 min. Sooo not enough time. I would not recommend to ANYONE.
This is not the easiest class. Professor expects students to act like college students and requires alot of work. You can't goof off and pass. Must read all assigned readings for a weekly quiz over them. You have two essay assignments out of class on readings. Two Midterms are essay questions and key term short answer. Final is comprehensive.
Highly recommend his online classes. I took 2A and 30A and fared really well in both. You will have to study a lot, but this is college after all!! Great classes. Thumbs up to Dr. Kallman.
pretty hard history teacher. i worked my butt off for an A. reading is necessary and lots of it! but if you work hard and read all the necessary material you will be fine. nice man and i enjoyed his lectures.
Dr. Kallman really was a terrible teacher. He did not fallow his syllabus for tests. His test questions did not cover the basic concepts of the cultures we where covering in the book but in stead he would pick the most off the wall questions that would aggravate everybody in the class. His lectures are good but thats all. He does not care.
Attend the classes and do minimal reading and you will be fine. Explains history and makes it interesting, always tying in what you are learning with what is happening now.
Horrible! missed so many classes, didnt teach, just rambled on and the only grades were a few tests and a paper, which are graded super hard. unless you are really good at history, dont take him!
hes the worst professor ever!!!!!! he grades hard and wont even let u make up for missed work!!
HATE this class! Hard grader! he wont give a perfect grade even though you hit all the point in your essay tests! his lecture are long. i listened and took notes a lot. Hard grader on term papers. I REALLY HATE THIS CLASS!
This class was hard, but as long as you pay attention, and Read the assignments you will do fine. Do not slack with the paper. He's hard, but he kept it interesting. If you don't like reading, don't try this professor.
Your are required to read ALL the time!!!
professor k is not one of the best teachers i've had. the tests are really hard and all the reading must be done to even be in the ballpark of the covered material. tests are short answer and essay that are kind of easy but any multiple choice he gives is outta nowhere. He is a nice guy, but I don't reccm taking him.
I have taken 2 classes with this Prof and highly recommend him. Come to class and pay attention alot of what is on the tests and quizzes are covered in class. He really knows his stuff and is willing to listen to opposing opinions
Decent teacher. He had great lectures, but his tests came out of the book + nowhere and barely touched his lectures. I wish his tests were less related to the book and more like his lectures. In the book, Foner tried so hard to sound smart that he overcomplicated the most simplistic ideas. I liked his character, but didn't like his tests or style.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He puts you on the spot when your late. A very hard grader. You have to be a genius in history to please him! All quizes are surprise. All tests are essay forms. Lectures are dreadfully boring and long. Takes more time than he should! Grades really hard on term papers. AVOID HIM!
keep us with reading, try, make every class and it helps to be a good test taker... all his grades are is test and one big essay
Kallman is the greatest. If you stay with the study guide, you can't go wrong. Anyone who doesn't like this guy just doesn't want to learn. The BOMB teacher.
There was a lot to learn and it is proven that you know what you have studied when you watch a documentary about a time in history, and you know what your looking for.
Great guy and his lecture's are very interesting! However, you do have to read a lot, the test are from the book not the lecture, there is rarely an opportunity for extra credit and he grades hard on your essay's. Luckily, you don't have to write that much. Do the reading and you'll be fine!
Good guy, he makes history as interesting as possible...but its still somehow boring. His tests DO NOT come from his lecture! You MUST read the book to do well in this class. He gives you a study guide which helps a lot. If you do not want to read then DO NOT take this class. He'll make you work for your grade. Also you have to write a book review
Awesome and knowledgeable teacher. Especially great if you plan on majoring in History--his class WILL prepare you for university-level History classes.
wow this was my most dreaded class to attend. Not only was he unprofessional but he was a jerk. This teacher was hurtful and disrespectful to my opinions and my choice of religion when it clearly had nothing to do with our class at all. He just felt the need to bash my views. I studied for hours, the tests didn't even reflect the text or lectures.
Took his class online. It was a complete joke, his tests were ridiculous. The time limits were too short for the amount of questions and they jumped around constantly.
Online summer course. VERY difficult. Weekly unit tests, meaning a lot of material to cover in a little time. The study guide was NO help. For every quiz I studied more and more, only to get worse grades. Timed quizzes, giving you less than a minute for each question. I wouldn't recommend unless you're a history buff.
Yeah! Post Structuralsist, late Marxist, Revisionism for everybody! Yeah! The text book should have been titled "Slavery: Your Country is Evil and How You Can Atone", by Rev. Jerimiah Wright. When taking the quizzes just guess the most politically correct answer. It doesn't help that he's kind of jerk.
I took this class online (I also took the history 2B with same teacher). The courses were not easy but they were fair. Also, each class had a required essay but if you did not wait until the week it was due, it wasn't too hard. If you want to think of history in a different way you might enjoy these classes.
I took his online class. LOTS OF READING. But as long as you actually read the chapters and take notes you should do fine on the tests. Critical Book Review towards the end of the semester. Make sure you know your stuff for the discussion questions. (theres 2 for each unit)Tough class, but a good grade is attainable, if you actually try.
In the online class you read every chapter & take quizzes for them. This learning method works for some, but not for all. I struggled tremendously. Oh, & with all due respect Dr. Kallman I understand your frustrations for some students but don't use stereotypes to pin point why they're slacking in your class. What you said was out of line.
This class was relly hard, with basically no interaction from the teacher.
Took it online, not much interaction from him. 2 threaded discussions and a unit quiz every 2 weeks, a midterm, a final, and a book report. Book Slavery by Another Name is actually a really interesting read on Neo-Slavery. I didn't expect to learn much from an online class but I did and it was interesting, but pretty much on your own. Kinda hard.
Hard class with a lot of reading. I thought that I would be able to do the assignment without doing the reading, but the wasn't the case. READING IS A MUST! This class is the history of Islam and I honestly had no interest in learning about Islam. Reading assignments with about 80-100 pages/week. 1 quiz/week. 2 discussion board questions/week
An amazing teacher who is genuinely passionate about History. Never too busy to offer help, always willing to work with people who have problems with the course, as long as they are honest with him and speak directly about it. Excellent lectures, write down EVERY WORD he says or puts to the blackboard, because it's all relevant. No Bull in here.
Amazingly difficult class. The professor was completely useless and sets unattainable goals. If you are bad with names or even remotely have a hard time comprehending reading do not take this class. If you get questions wrong on quizzes don't expect to ever be able to find correct answers whether from professor or from textbook.
Wow. He actually requires you to buy a book for his class in which he authored.
One word. Quizlet.
Do yourself a favor a do not take his class. You will regret it. This eastern asian history was an online class and without a doubt the hardest I've had yet. Not just hard but with the confusing, similar, weird Chinese names you better be able to memorize very well! Not nearly enough time on the quizzes. Required book was poorly written.
This was a very interesting class! Assignments: 8 units, 2 forumsunit, 1 quizunit (HARD), midterm and final, and 1 paper. This class is a lot of work, but it's worth it. I have two tips: if you're taking two classes then take this one too, but don't overload, and MAKE A STUDY GUIDE WHILE READING (this will help you on forums, quizzes, and tests).
Passed with an A and the class seemed easy because I never even got the books that was required LOL
Though there is a lot of reading for this class, but as long as you put time into the class you'll be fine. He IS, however, a very tough grader.
This professor is great. He is extremely detailed and will help you understand the material if ask. I took his class once and did not pass (my own fault) because I just could not put in the time to do the work. His tests are very hard and take the whole 40 minutes to complete. I think it's a great class to prepare for college.
Top notch Prof, open minded and very knowledgeable in what he teaches. but a class not for the lazy.
Easy Class. Very straight forward. one essay and long detailed tests that are lw easy. 8 quizzes that are relatively simple, vocal and dates. Do discussion post and a solid job on essay and its a guaranteed passing grade. *
Taking 6C rn and it's awesome! Yes, you must study hard but quizzes are absolutely fair. Do not let bad reviews fool you, don't miss out on an amazing class and prof! He will answer emails quickly and makes the discussions extremely interesting. Midterm was great, 100 m/c. I was hoping to take US hist with him in the spring but he teaches 6C again.
Class is not for lazy peeps, be prepared to actually KNOW what you read or you won't pass tests. 16 discussions (2 per module), 8 tough tests, midterm is 100 questions in 100 min, final is 125 questions in 125 min; book report about 1500 wds. I do recommend taking his class; you'll learn a lot and the subject is very well taught and interesting.
I wouldnt recommend taking this class, unless you need it for the general ed requirement. The course is very demanding. Very little professor interaction, and when asking for help the replies are very vague. Quizzes are challenging, so make sure you do a thorough reading. Final exam is nothing like what he told us to study. Not my favorite course.
HORRIBLE!!!! HARD TESTS! DON'T TAKE IF YOU WANT TO SAVE YOUR GPA!
I was surprised to see that a majority of these reviews have the same feelings about the Prof as I do. Tough grader, hardly any interaction from him, comes off rude, demanding, etc. Perhaps if the class was in person it could be better, but now? It is super difficult and information heavy.
This is one of the worst courses I've taken in college so far. If you ever need clarification, the professor never helps. There is lots of reading, so take that into consideration before enrolling. One of the textbooks didn't really help. Also, discussions in this class felt more like a debate than a class discussion. Only take if you must.
WORST CLASS EVER! Professor is RUDE and is way too hard on his students. He is constantly on Canvas trolling your responses and challenging your answers even when they are correct. He made multiple statements like "leave the questioning up to me" and "I need more" or "correct, but is that all you can provide" Do not bother emailing either.
this class wasn't impossible, but you do have to sound like you know what you're talking about. he comes off very impatient and even rude. didn't get any feedback on the large written assignment or any explanation as to why points were being deducted. TIP: submit discussion posts at around 10 the night its due to avoid his comments and challenges.
This professor wasn't the greatest. There is minimal interaction from him, and he takes forever to respond to emails. There is A LOT of reading so if you're looking for an easy A, take Jackson instead and save your GPA. His quizzes are challenging and the midterm was a shuffle of the quiz q's. Final was hard. I wouldn't recommend this professor.
Terrible professor. That's all I have to say... I would give him a zero if I could.
I just took Dr.Kallman this summer, I was hesitant to because of the bad reviews but I would take him again. His class consisted of about 2 discussions a week on the assigned reading following a quiz. There are 4 exams total and a research paper. The hardest part of this class is the research paper but just do your work and study and you'll be ok.
This is the most time consuming class I have ever taken. Participation matters, especially addressing the professor and the minimum word count on assignments won't get you squat always do a little more. The book isn't good and it takes forever to complete assignments. You would also have to purchase a separate book to even do the final essay.
Don't waste your time taking him, I wish I had dropped his class when I could've. Super tough grader and I wasted $60 buying his online textbook. Discussions have absolutely no correlation to the given textbook and is often rude.
An old school method teacher. Do the work on time and not cheat and you'll be ok. Will heavily deduct your grade if caught, not recommended. If Summer class, extremely condensed so lots of reading. Textbook 100% required. Not as hard as other reviews state. Don't take this class if you want easy credits or want to cheat. Very straightforward.
Prof Kallman is a very old school teacher. Would grade assignments without any commentary so if you got a very low score, he wouldn't tell you why. Discussion posts and timed quizzes weekly w/ required textbook. Do not cheat, do work on time (he gives a week in advance to do discussion posts). Time consuming class but was a fairly easy class.
Prof Kallman has a structured teaching style, but engaging with it pays off. The textbook is essential, and assignments require dedication. Unstuck study was helpful for study prep. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
- Penalizes you with heavy deductions on your quizzes and exams if you leave the Canvas tab - Relies too much on similarity scores and will penalize you for that too - Opens tests and quizzes the same day and closes them the same day (can't be ahead of your work) - rude asf
Honestly my favorite teacher I've had this semester. The work is straightforward, there's nothing that's not answered by the book, and the workload is extremely doable. I'm glad I didn't go off of reviews to pick this class, tbh I'd take it again
Don't even bother with this class it's unfair
Terrible and lazy. He doesn't provide any lectures- you purchase a book, read it on your own, do discussions, and take quizzes. At no point does he do any actual teaching. Maybe this wouldn't bother me if he wasn't such a hard grader. I am a history major and love history but his lack of care and rigidness is beyond demoralizing.
This class is an easy A if you feed into his raging Trump Derangement Syndrome. The icon of what's wrong with hiring Progressive professors and letting them entrench into your institution.
I think the amount of work would be entirely manageable during a regular semester, however in the summer it can be up to 4 chapters a week. Grading on discussions can be frustrating sometimes as you have to meet undefined expectations in order to get an A. However, he rounded my final grade by a lot which I'm very grateful for.
Kallman believes that I write too similar to AI, so he deducts SO many points off of EVERY assignment. I do not use AI for my discussions whatsoever, but since I try to write professionally and efficiently, he assumes it's AI. I feel like I have to dumb down my writing and it isn't fair at all.
I took two of his classes. Hist 17A and Hist 6c. He's a tough grader. You have to read a lot and he makes you write a ton and take a lot of quizzes. He's okay but he's just a really tough grader. I took him twice only because I had to. Other than that there probably better teacher than him for sure.
I took two of his classes. Hist 17A and Hist 6c. He's a tough grader. He seems miserable. You have to read a lot and he makes you write a ton and take a lot of quizzes. He's okay but he's just a really tough grader. I took him twice only because I had to. There probably better teachers than him for sure.
