how's everybody doing? (Smile) he's good guy
Luvable, but yo're gonna fail!
you gotta love the smile!

So.... What's new? - A good guy who likes his smoke breaks

Tries to pretend he's the nicest guy. But gives an extremely unfair and ridiculous exam, all with a smile
This guy is not qualified for teaching. Schulich is either playing fool or being irresponsible to enhance education at all.
Nice guy, nice way of teaching. Story teller if you like his stories. Sometimes monotonous. Does not like the discussions in class to go beyond the red line, but still you learn enough in his course!

great prof...challenges studetns to think for themselves...great
He's great in class. Encourages good discussion, knows his material and makes it interesting. The bell curve in this class is STUPID. Don't even try to break it. The TA's don't read your essays, everyone gets the same mark and he WILL NOT look at your pap
Straight out of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." Straight-up funny guy, always smiling. The midterm and final are worth a lot and are hard, and he always has two assignments (easy marks), but you will feel good if you do well.
Great lectures, funny, but debate is his view only. Play devil's advocate at own risk. Marking is another matter. NOTHING gets read, TA does 200 assignments in 1 week with no comments. Exam is similar BS. Waste of time, go with Barrows.
He is a terrible prof. Very unclear. Puts on a "nice guy" act.
I told Dean to kick him out, but Dean didn't do it. Therefore, we should kick Dean out too.
AWesome teacher! I wish I had him again! Knows how to get the point across! Hard Class! but u learn a lot..
I did really bad in this class but the professor's sexy
Clear, systematic and very helpful
5250 is a waste of time, but Tolias is not bad. I recommend this guy.
Entertaining to listen to... and if you fall asleep, he will snap his fingers or clap his hands to wake you up.
If you want to stay on this prof's good side, don't laugh every time he says ZDP (sic.)
Excellent. Great inside of the history of economics development in Canada. Book is good for those who like the subject of global competitiveness. Those who don't will find it boring.
he's a great prof, always smiling! his midterm was BRUTAL! the final wasn't too bad, and if u need help just ask and go to his office...he's a great guy, he'll even have a coffee with u =P
outstanding! made me read a ton... not too happy with the marking of the T.A., however he is amazing. Some find him opinionated, but his sarcasm is more "realism" and "pragmatism" than sarcasm. Well, for an economist, his humor is very good too.
Very good. Have learnt a lot. This guy is very humorous. His classes are interesting and very helpful. Great prof.
A very tough teacher, but he teaches very well. You actually learn something in his class. His exams are hard, so study hard.
Amazing prof! Very inspired by him. I'm just wondering why such an amazing, intelligent person is stuck teaching micro. He actually cares about his students. He smiles a lot and always say "The sun will rise again!"
Assignments are easy, exams are IMPOSSIBLE!
Great Prof! It's a shame he will not be teaching us next term!
Funny guy. Enjoys Carrot juice a little too much.. Whats up with that? But his exams are KILLER!
This is the best class so far at Schulich, exams and work is fair and well structured
Excellent professor! Interesting and clear instruction. Notes and class discussion are very helpful for the exam.
Great prof. Makes classes very interesting. Very clear teaching style.
One of the Best professors at Schulich. Do not miss a chance to take a class with him!
great prof. he always comes up with real life examples to make the subject easier to learn.
Knew how to get his message through. Very educated on diversity.
Good in Econ but bad in MGMT.He has same set of material for both courses.U never know what he wants in exam.He has such a hidden agenda in his exam marking.U always get unexpected marks that may be A+ 0r B-.what a fuzzy teacher
Brilliant. He will teach u economics no matetr what. Very helpful if your previous econ experience was poor
Very knowledgeable and friendly prof who uses real life examples to illustrate complicated topics and connections.
Very knowledgable, very well-read. Entertaining professor. However: highly left-wing professor, poor ability to give meaningful/direct feedback. Quite bureaucratic.
Great professor, perfect introduction for first year first semester students to become comfortable in the university environment.. in all honesty, if you work hard and read material, you wont find the exam impossible. challenging perhaps but nothing that you honestly cannot do
Not very good at putting a course together. No doubt enthusiastic about economics but you're left reaching into thin air for relevant course material (textbook, slides, lecture notes) that are no help at all for exams, mid terms and assignments.
awesome professor!
A bit annoying at first, then turns into one of the best classes in the MBA.
Any Schulich student has to take his course at-least once ... its a must .. he is knowledgeable and teaching style is highly inspiring ... if u take any 2 of his courses ... be prepared for a play back !!!
A genuine guy. Very humble. Tactful. Absolutely inspiring. I love each and every sentence he puts together. Every sentence of his shows so much of experience, every word of his for me was learning experience. Infact in your first year of MBA with whoever you are taking Econ5100 get his notes to understand better. I did the same.
Excellent Teacher
probably the best prof in schulich.
Explains concepts clearly, draws neat and legible diagrams, nice man, and no group projects.
great teaching sense
Great Professor.Would recommend him to anyone who has not taken economics earlier in his/her life.Makes Economics looks so easy!!Lenient marker and tries to provide students as much help as possible before the exams.
He is a very nice and well-mannered person. He expects only the best of his students and those who work hard are rewarded. Pay attention to his lectures and keep up with readings. Midterm was fair and not as scary as he made it out to be.
I have taken both ECON-5100 & MGMT-5250 with Prof. Tolias. Excellent professor by all means. Knowledgeable, very helpful, ecourages discussions in class to stimulate the interest of his audience. If you plan to take ECON-5100 or MGMT-5250, I recommend you to take it with Prof. Tolias. Personally speaking, I have developed a passion for his subjects
THE MAN IS A GENIUS! He's super helpful, loves teaching and throughly enjoys intellectual conversation in class. He will stimulate your interest in econ and will help you every step of the way. That said, expect REALLY TOUGH EXAMS! Other than AVI J. COHEN, he's my fav. econ prof at York. A++ go forth and take his class!
Entertaining and keeps the class flowing. Gives you great history of the Cdn economy. Assignments makes you think and form an opinion (bad for engineers). Had trouble understanding his English sometimes.
Amazing professor!!! There isn't anything that he can't explain logically. It was such a pleasure to learn from him. Tons of wisdom and very well read- a true academic.
his lectures may seem boring and same with the material... but if you actually listen its actually not bad. He is a GREAT professor and really knows his stuff. If you take notes (with pencil and paper) during his lectures and do the readings, you will do well in the midterms and final. great prof! fair marker! loves carrot juice!
He was a good prof, he makes the classes very interesting.
Tolias does not give you clear expectations and instead has you rely on the teachings of other professors for your core coursework. On top of his general ambiguous nature, he still likes to mark very hard. Beware the daggers in his smiles.
Great Professor! Capable of dissecting everything to its simplest part and explaining it crystal clear from scratch.
Very tuff prof, he barley gives any As! he expect far to much and his very concern with keeping class avg low!
A very nice prof, a pleasure to listen to! However, he expects a LOT when it comes to presentations/projects. If you expect an easy mark, do not take this course.
Will not move on until everyone understands. Pretty clear, but also kind of boring?not his fault, it's the material itself. Exams are taken from the publisher. If you're in iBBA, you have no choice but to take him, and word of advice: get your hands on past exams.
Very caring and sincere.
You can get full class participation by schmoozing this Prof. He likes to talk about Greece Economy more than the class subject matter. Grading is inconsistent.
Useless, stale, and gives students the clear impression that he would rather be somewhere else.
Professor is not helpful at all at answering questions. Hard to reach outside of office hours, not responsive to emails. He is a nice person, but not a good instructor.I would avoid taking his class again. Also,he does not grade the assignment, he delgates to his TA and when you ask him questions about the grading, he cannot give you a concise answer
Avoid at all cost, not responsive at answering questions. Takes him on average 5-6 days to reply to emails. The course material is dry enough as is and he made it worse. He tries to tell jokes in class somtimes, but nobody understands him. There are definitely better and more qualified professors at Schulich
avoid if possible, don't like his teaching style too layback, doesn't explain concepts clearly, when answering questions - don't get to the point, doesn't seem to care much about the students, no help outside of classroom. Talks in a monotone, makes you want to sleep in class.
He is a terrible prof for this course, rambles a lot and does not communicate his ideas effectively. Generic comments and feedback is of no value to students. Avoid him for this course!
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! ADORE HIM! He is very inspiring, and one of the few professors who genuinely cares about his students.
fantastic professor! very smart man, he knows everything about his course, and also a lot about life. He is a fantastic person, and makes a lot of corny jokes that help to explain the material. Best professor I have had at York and Schulich. All you need to do is study past midterms for both the midterm and half of the final. He's the best!
Nice guy. unusual obssession over carrot juice. read the textbook, listen to him and you'll ace the course.
He's a great professor and a great person. I went into the course with a lot of interest and came out with even more interest. He's easy too- all you have to do are the readings. The textbook is more than enough for his course. He also got our class into the habit of keeping ahead with news. Gladly takes out-of-textbook questions too. Great guy!
Best professor at Schulich!
Avoid at all costs. Rambles on and on, does not get to the point, paraphrases everything 3x before moving on. Instructions are unclear. His answers to questions are vague. If I had a dollar for egeerytime he says "RIGHT?" and gives an uppercut to the air in front of him. He hates giving A's
Useless class. He is good at trying to get you involved in class discussions, but his marker was very unclear in expectations. I think he is spread too thin at Schulich, which provides issues in his classes.
Easily one of the worse professors I have ever had in 8+ years of postsecondary education. Has no grasp of the course content, relies on subjective TA marking for all submissions, and rarely provides any useful insights or classes. Unfortunately, at Schulich, you are often stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to faculty.
A very harsh prof that marks really hard, but does explain his material quite well.
Really great professor!!! Great class!
Very inspiring prof. He'll chat with you outside of class and he can help you out with his advice on other projects if you ask for it. Clear teaching style. Always smiling. Enjoys providing classes with the latest news and tries to stick humor into his lectures.
Pretty unclear. Very little positive feedback for the class. Does seem to know his stuff, but has a hard time getting it across to the class.
He doesn't provide any guidance during the process of a project and then little feedback afterwards. He says "if I do it for your team, then I'd have to do it for all the other groups." Um, then do it. Not sure he was meant to teach this course; he doesn't even seem engaged with much of the material other than superficially.
I enjoyed Professor Tolias's class. He knows his stuff and invites guest lecturers that are very knowledgeble.
I highly recommend taking Prof Tolias's class for economics. Very knowledgeable. Gives plenty of examples and asks lots of questions to make sure we understand the concepts.
He links the concepts very well with practical world. He is very passionate about the subject. He explains the concept as smooth as silk. Sometimes he could be tough in grading
Had him for INTL 1200. Amazing professor...one of the best microeconomics professors I've ever had
I will be honest. I did not get a great grade, but the prof was amazing. You can pass the exam by just taking notes on his lectures. (you can't pass the course by just reading the textbook) The only problem with him is that every mark in the course is worth 1% of your final grade.
Aggressive person, hides it behind a smile. He shouldn't be teaching Skills for leadership course, as he doesn't care about the subject. Not bright enough to participate in a discussion: in response to a student's question would either provide a generic comment or reply with a question.
He should not be teaching MGMT 5150. He cannot give a good answer to student - all too general answers. He did not explain the course materials with science. It is neither in depth explanations. He asked a question to let you answer, then there is no feedback/comment to your answer. He always drag the discussions to economics. Not recommending.
He really knows his economics, and tried to apply to the real world. However, his exam was the exact opposite of what he had taught in class, so although he says don't pay attention to the book, he takes his multiple choice questions from the book!
Amazing professor. Make sure to attend class and take notes, though - collaborate with each other if you can, because all evaluations are based almost solely on lectures. Barely used the book. Can easily do well without reading it. Great person and a great professor.
quite a nice guy and begins classes with material from previous classes to thoroughly instil ideas - loves carrot juice
The best - the only - prof to take Econ 5100 with. He doesn't hide behind formulas, he connects the subject very clearly to real world applications, and he knows how to actually engage a class. Just fantastic.
An incredible, passionate professor. He makes his own notes - you don't need a textbook. Very smart, very practical, so awesome, I love him.
It's tough not to get at least an A in this course with due effort and interest. Nice, genuine guy. What he tests on is what he talks about, so I recommend going to the lectures for that reason. I wouldn't say he really made things clear for me, despite him trying to dumb things down for us... But he's still a decent lecturer.
Very useless course. Very confusing teaching and vague answers. Avoid if you can.
The only thing i didn't like about this course was that the textbook was not very helpful. The professor is incredible!! You put in the work, you will do well. Its that simple. There are no hidden tricks or games on his test. He is the professor that you want for Economics.
I love this prof. He is genuinely caring for students, and he is fair. Once this term is completed, his extra comments on our electives in the future is "to be diverse, instead of too specialized".
Great teacher, is able to deliver the content clearly and is able to teach introductory classes effectively.
Very vague answers to questions. He comes into the class with a mindset of giving you a B or less grade! Didn't learn anything practical from him.
you have to learn what he tells you. additional knowledge will not help through, stick to what you learn in class.
He's very insightful, smart and knowledgeable. Inspirational too!. Only issue is that he is hung up on his own opinions and tends to emphasize his views though he pretends to listen to all and tries to be receptive.
He was an amazing prof to have in first-year. Make sure you do your readings, and participate, he'll acknowledge that and remember you. He's a great person, and a very attentive prof. He truly knows his stuff and is passionate about it. Textbook is hard to follow, and both the mid-term and the exam are 100% test bank. The exam was much harder.
He has got a very good understanding of his subjects . Explain concepts by giving real good examples. I really liked his micro economics class. Preparation for the class is important and just go through the slides or the articles he has asked to read.
Theo does not lecture a lot, the majority of classes are peer presentations on current events. Also, the "midterm" was worth 40% and was only 2 3-page questions, barely covering the textbook. He grilled everyone aggressively on their group presentations. Good person, tough professor.
Please save yourself from the torture and don't take his class. He is absolutely pathetic for the MGMT course as he has no prior experience in this field and he is not even thorough with the textbook material. He will keep on repeating the same thing until you go crazy!
Super passionate about economics. His voice is a little monotone so it was hard to stay awake after long nights. Exams and assignments are easy as long as you prepare accordingly.
He is very insightful and knowledgeable. I find that his questions are very vague hence you may never be able to answer them. No one was able to understand his grading criteria or what exactly he wanted :-(/. I was interested in his class but not into his grading :-(
He relies on the students to make the class interesting while he cannot provide any insights on the subject matter. He does not even attempt to provide a connect between the course and its practical application. Perhaps he himself is bored of it!
He knows his stuff when it comes to leadership, but also admits when he doesn't. Grading on group projects seemed arbitrary; everyone gets a B so its honestly not worth the effort to do it properly, focus your energy on the individual assignments instead. Feedback is vague and doesn't do much to help students improve in the future.
Loves to talk about Greece, which is great given the Economics of the region. One of the most knowledgeable and best professors
Theo was the best quantitative professor I have had! He made economics so easy to learn with his thorough and well planned lectures. He tied world events to each concept. He didn't bother making us buy a textbook - he had prepared notes for us and tested us off of those notes. Assignments and tests were very straight forward. Amazing experience
Tolias gives boring lectures but if you're strong enough to keep up with it you'll be able to understand the material. Otherwise, get ready to read on your own.
One of the most brilliant professors I've studied under. Exceptional clarity of thought and ability to influence and imprint upon the minds of the students. Made me love Economics again. He is several times more effective in teaching macro economics and geopolitics than in micro (where he is very good to the say the least!) 'Push Back!'
AVOID. A tenured academic imbecile with no professional experience. This guy is a complete PHONY and represents ALL that is wrong with academia. He is also a slob - doesn't even tie his shoes. Grades Bull. Some readings are great, but Tolias is ("you know..!") useless! Contributions by classmates were the only thing that added value in class.
Theo is one of the nicest professors and very considerate. He is absolutely an amazing Economics Professor. Insightful and inspirational. Happy to have been taught by him. :)
His passion for this subject comes out in this course and he knows a lot about it. Take notes and record audio if possible, he can move fast and you could lose the plot when scaling out a graph as he speaks. Ask questions! He will answer all in detail. Some Profs teach to test, others teach 4u to learn, he is the later which is very refreshing!
Teddy was good, however, occasionally quite tiring. Overall a great prof, just needs to lay off the carrots
Best Prof out there!! So interesting, I never get bored of his lectures.
I love this man. By far the sweetest, most caring professor you will ever receive. Genuinely cares about your success and will go over concepts extremely thoroughly until you understand. He's a prof that teaches for you to learn instead of to test. Always funny and entertaining, consider yourself blessed if you get this man.
Theodore is pretty cool. The material was interesting but Lectures are somewhat boring since we progress really slowly. Just watch YouTube videos to aid in your understanding. It was an online semester so maybe he is better in person. :)
Not very good at teaching MGMT 5150. Struggles to get the message across. Often veers off topic. Extremely boring. Might be a good Economics lecturer, but Management certainly isn't his strong suit.
Waste of time. Doesn't understand the content. Boring and uninspiring.
He's very nice although lectures tend to be on the boring side and little feedback is given. Overall, Theo grades fairly and he really cares about connecting with his students. It's obvious that he is well versed in his field and knows what he's talking about.
Inspiring Professor.
Avoid. Monotonous and makes the subject feel a lot more complicated than it is. Not a good teacher.
monotonous, boring and vague lectures, doesn't cover anything in the lectures. somehow rude! he doesn't let students talk! ridiculously quizzes, never ever take a course with him. waste of time money and credits. not suggested at all!!!!!!!
Don't get baited into taking his class by looking at the good reviews. Terrible prof. Pretty clear that the reviews like "Inspiring Professor 5/5" are fake.
Just like the Greek economy, he shows you what a teacher shouldn't do
BY FAR the worst lecturer I have had in over 10 years in academia. I can't even call him a teacher or a professor because he does not teach and does not command the respect that comes with those titles. The only redeeming part of the class was that the quizzes were marked by a system, but it won't matter because whatever he marks will be a B.
Super nice professor, the class felt like just a chill discussion session. Content is super easy. Easy 8 but does not give 9s so beware. Feels like a repeat of ECON2000 but less math. The course was not heavy at all
There is a participation component, discussion (online and in class), and he also takes attendance. Group prject can be quite annoying, he doesn't mark harsh but not easy either. Try to study textbook well so you can succeed on the midterm tests. Also some (but very few) topics from the class may be brought up on these tests.
Professor Tolias is a chill and approachable instructor. The content is fairly easy, similar to ECON2000, but less math-heavy. Highly recommend using unstuck AI and other study tools to stay on top of the weekly assignments and discussions.
goes on irrelevant yap sessions and barely refers to the mandatory textbook
Truly an awful professor, out of all Schulich professors by far Theodore Tolias has got to be one of the worst professors when it comes to grading, lectures and actual material to study for when it comes to tests. Just remember if Theodore Tolias can be a Schulich professor you can do anything in this world. Loves to talk and get mad for no reason.
Greek (with a slight accent) and was good. Lectures were boring and not essential to success. Weekly homework questions online (2 hours per week) and discussion posts. Recommend doing all in the first weeks of class; all are open. Midterm was simple and easy. Posted lots of articles, not all essential. Group project similar to Econ2000 project.
I liked him, marked in the 70-80 range. He's really confusing regarding clarifying questions on the assignments - he just says it's more or less up to us. The final group project was a bit heavy due to it being a foreign direct investment - put lots of data. For textbook homework, do it all at the beginning using ChatGPT and multiple accounts.
Baseless marking scheme, poor course structure, course assessments are all past-questions being reused - lack of seriousness in the course
Reconsider everything
FYI: Many Schulich students took York econ in first year, so they found the jump tough, but starting with Tolias isn't bad at all. Econ is a hard subject in general, and Tolias genuinely does his best to explain things clearly. Not sure where all the complaints come from. Expecting a B+/A based on the final exam. Don't slack and you'll be fine.
Reads the slides, which is word for word from the textbook
Professor Tolias is one of the kindest and most caring professors out there! The course itself is difficult however, he provides great support when needed.
Not sure why there's so many negative reviews about him, it's clear that most of these reviews came from students who slacked off during the course. He's very passionate about what he teaches, and even though the tutorial assignments were a little wonky, it's not difficult to get a good grade in this course.
