This teacher is super nice and helpful, however she doesnt really like it when you use your cell phone. Other than that, we watch awesome movies and do really easy group work to help with your grade, as long as you show up to class, Youll pass.

If you are not an English person, like me, you would be quite shocked how much you would like American Literature after 1865. I was kind of unsure if I would like this class, but I have to say that Ms. Heflin has an exuberant personality, and truly is passionate about the material and I think that this is what makes the literature come alive.

I loved her. I took her for creative writing and am now taking her for Comp 2. I will be taking her Creative Writing 2 class in the spring as well. She will explain everything so you can understand. She is strict on how she likes her papers, but is well worth the knowledge you leave with!

she is very strict! she grades essays very hard! the whole semester consist of essays and reading a bunch of stories for homework!

This was an awesome class. She connects all of the literature with current ideas from pop culture to politics to society. She was very helpful everytime I went to see her in her office and she always answered emails. She is passionate about her teaching and her classes. I plan to take her for my lit class.

The class was very easy, and I enjoyed watching movies in class. She gets really into what she is teaching which is both good and bad. She became extremely upset when some students did not read over material before class -- she lashed out at the whole class, which reminded me somewhat of a high school teacher. But other than that, she was okay.

Kind, funny, smart, knowledgeable, and timely. Really fun class, with fun homework.

Really liked the openendedness of the class...lots of discussion and group work. A very different style of class...team taught with History. I enjoyed all the students comments and opinions. It was a fun and unique way to study literature. Lots of reading and the essays were ok. She really knows her stuff and she will talk with you anytime.

Love her! She loves English and it shows! She makes class fun and inviting and teaches with books, movies, songs, slides...everything! Offers extra credit on writing projects and really makes sure you know what is expected. She's very dramatic and loud and loves to have fun! Great teacher!!

Her class is challenging, but it's far from over whelming. She's very clear and easy to understand. She always listens and is willing to help however she can. She responds to Emails quickly and posts grades fast. I definitely recommend her to anyone!

I DREADED TAKING THIS COURSE BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO READ ALL THE LITERATURE, BUT SHE MADE IT VERY FUN W/NOT THE NORMAL GOT TO LITERATURE, MOVIES, & POEMS. She is a great proffessor. She is energetic and her assignments are interesting. It is an easy class. I decided to miss a lot and not do all my assingments and still recieved and B+. I recommend her to anyone who is bad at english.

Dr Heflin was always willing to talk with me. The stories were great and if she wanted to talk to you in her office it was because she couldn't answer your question in an email. She answered my emails and I went to her office too. The first quiz didn't count and everybody got all the points. She was great. I wish I had taken her for 1301.

Dr. Heflin was one of the best online instructors I have had. She answered all emails, posted assignment due date reminders and sent alot of announcements. Her directions and lectures were very clear and she gave extra points on the essays if we used the Writing Center. Great class. Great professor.

I am so glad I took Ms. Heflin's online English 1302 course. Ms. Heflin responded almost immediately to emails and gave clear instructions on all assignments. The textbook is definitely needed and reading the stories, plays and poems will guarantee a good grade in the class. Definitely use the online writing center, she does give bonus points.

Dr Heflin was fantastic. She answers emails so quickly. Lots of reading, quizzes, discussion boards and assignments. Read some great stories, poems and plays. Lectures very complete. Challenged me to build my writing skills.

Professor Heflin made the subject very interesting and I loved her class! There is a LOT of reading and research but it was certainly worth it. Lots of assignments, discussions and essays, quizzes were easy as long as you do what she asks you to do (read). Excellent email communication. This was my first online class and I loved it. :)

I took her online. She puts the lesson for the week up every sunday. Moderately easy grader. Easy at first and progressively gets more strict. Understandable. Quick grader. Wish I would have taken her for 1301

My all time favorite teacher @ TCC NW Campus. If you love to write, Heflin will hone your talents. I learned so much in both creative writing classes. She is just an all-around cool person. Kudos!

Very nice lady and very passionate about English. She's not a tough grader and she gives a lot of grades that pad your overall average. Not an English person at all, but I'll most likely come out with an A.

Professor Heflin was awesome. She is clear in what she looks for and I don't know about her English comp classes but he creative writing class is absolutely amazing. She obviously has lots of assignments but they are so fun. If you do not think you are creative, take this class, she'll bring it out of you. Awesome teacher.

Heflin was great! This is the 2nd online class I've taken. Much better than the 1st one. Gives great feedback and she answers emails within 24 hours...I never really waited for an answer. Lots of reading. Assignments and discussion boards every week. She expects alot but this is college. If Dr Heflin taught another online class I would take it.

Responds quickly to emails, willing to help you out and answer any questions. Assignments are only released a week at a time which makes it hard to get ahead. Overall good professor though.

I took her for online English 1302. The class is well outlined and she sticks to the plan. The class is made up of a lot of reading and several writing assigntments. There were a few papers assigned, but they weren't outrageous. Quizzes are easy if you read the stories, poems and plays assigned. She is strict on grading, especially with grammar mistakes. Grading would be helpful if she provided more specific feedback on mistakes; however, the grading is not impossible.

She is great techer if you take your paper to the writing center she will give extra credit and also read the stroys that you are assigned because of not then you will be lost and also the paper you at the begin of the class that will be your final exam

The teacher was very willing to help out students when they reached out to her by email. The class had clear expectations and grading guidelines. The teacher would post the lessons each Sunday and they were due the following Sunday. As long as you do the reading & the assignments, you can pass the class. Easy A and would take this class again!! :)

Great teacher and writer. Will give you the feedback you need to be a better writer if that's what you intend on doing. It's hard getting an A in this class because she takes off points for every little thing, I'm barely at an A. Assignments are fun, don't do work late. It will hurt you. Firm but fair. She's funny and inspirational.

Gives assignments a week in advance and papers two weeks. One assignment and one quiz every week. Easy work. Easy quizzes. She is more focused on your grammar and writing skills. As long as you do the assignments you will make at least a B. I made a B and missed a few assignments. She replies quickly to emails! I would take her again!

She is a tough grader and will point out every single mistake you make. Be prepared to read and write. Lots of work for her class!

American lit from the Civil War to Civil Rights is a great class. Dr. Heflin and Dr. Cervantez are great team teachers. Awesome stories, poems, and films. Lots of reading (text material is provided -- no cost to me) and great class discussions. This was one of the best classes Ive taken. Both professors know their stuff. Always available.

First online class for me. Dr Heflin is a tough grader but gives great feedback. Posts lots of announcements and emails. Responds quickly. Learned a lot. Better writer then when I started the class. Directions are clear. She doesn't give away grades. Good. I want to earn my diploma. I don't want it handed to me. I would take her again.

I was scared to take this class. Im not a very good writer, but she answered every email question and gave me good feedback on all my papers. Glad I took the class with her. Ive heard other online teachers don't get back to students very quickly. She does. I'm not going to get an A, but I think I did pretty well.

Heflin is amazingly organized and answers emails immediately. She has high expectations and well this is college so I appreciate her not giving away grades. Be prepared to read, write, and participate in discussion boards. Despite it being an online class you learn a lot and will be a better write after everything. It's worth it. Take her.

Heflin is one of the BEST! The class was not easy to take during the summer but her feedback is direct and helpful. She motivated me to do my best. Answers email very fast and she posted lots of announcements. All assignment directions are clear and specific. I have learned alot and would really like to take her for a regular classroom class.

Dr. Heflin is a great teacher! She helped shape my use of the writing lab and my lack of knowledge when it came to being a new college student. She does not give grades, but will allow you to turn in papers with corrections and grade like she has never seen them,

Dr. Heflin is very funny and nice; her passion for Gothic lit is obvious. Made the mistake of taking the 3 hour class but I actually didn't mind because she made the material so interesting. Not too many essays assigned; a lot of small writing assignments. She's a tough grader; I wish she would give students a copy of her rubric BEFOREHAND

Prof Heflin helps you understand gothic literature. She will give extra credit. Her essay assignments are not hard if you pay attention and devote yourself to writing them. I recommend to read every single short story or poem she uploads for you. Not many tests. I would take her again for a class.

ONLINE CLASS - lots of reading. usually one paragraph, one discussion board post and response weekly. Exams are essays. gives extra credit opportunities. I would definitely take her again if needed. Quick responses!

What a great class. I had them for Am Lit 1, and I decided to take Am Lit 2. Best classes I've had in college. The class is team taught with Dr. Cervantez. What a great way to teach the lit. These two really have a fun way to learn the material. If you can, take either Am Lit 1 or Am Lit 2 with Drs Heflin and Cervantez.

Prof. Heflin is a tough grader. She is very, very specific in her paper expectations. She will reduce points for any little thing. She'll reduce major points for grammar errors, comma splices, run-ons, etc. Usually, an assignment, discussion post, and quiz for every lesson. You'll have one major essay at the end of each lesson.

Just finished my 1st online class. Great instructions, gives a week to get all assignments in, gives great feedback. My writing has improved. Nothing is too hard and she answers emails very quickly. I will take Heflin again if she teaches another online class.

Dr Heflin & Dr Cervantez are a great team. The class was fantastic. I had Heflin for 1302 . Both profs have fun and make the history and the lit come alive. Great connections. This was my first college English class and it was a great experience. Dr. Heflin gives great feedback and met with me in her office. She used great documentary films, tv shows, other media, power points and other motivating material besides lectures. She let us revise papers and was always ready to help us write college level essays.

Prof Heflin gave great feedback on all of my assignments. She was never too busy to answer an email question about something she said in the feedback comments. Her comments helped me write better papers in my government class.

I took Prof. Heflin for ENGL-1302 online. I really learned a lot throughout the semester. She is a tough grader, but always very prompt on grading all assignments. She gives great feedback. She responded to my emails within 30 minutes every single time. You have to turn things in on time or you will not receive credit. She is a very good professor!

When the semester first started I didn't like her. She was hard, 1-2 papers a week. A few movies. Obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe & the correct use of commas. But by the end I loved the class & appreciated how hard she was on us. Made me a better writer. You find yourself constantly analyzing books & movies. Definitely worth the hard work. Got a 90

Heflin was great. I was not sure about taking this class during the summer and it was a lot of work. She answered all my questions, and the course organizer helped me stay on track for due dates. Ms. Heflin is amazing. She really made you think about your writing. Her feedback is really helpful and she truly means well when she criticizes your work. She never comes off as rude and only tries to help. She has defiantly helped my writing improve for the better.

Once I understood the course objectives I found the class much easier. Weekly in-class assignments begin 30 minutes before class begins, then closes about 15 minutes after official start of class. Don't be late. Weekly on-line assignments. Prof. allows re-submission of almost all assignments *if* your original was on time. Accessible for questions.

It is a tough class. You will not be able able to slack off and pass. With that being said, Professor Heflin is an amazing teacher. She gives constructive feedback and pushes you to be your best. If you do the work, her class will prepare you for the rest of college, when it comes to essays. I loved having her as a professor for English 1 and 2.
