She is nice, class is pretty boring just power points and notes every day. Test was essay and difficult if you don't study and take notes, but she gives a review which helps. Attendance isnt mandatory but she gives extra credit for those who go.
I dont like history but she makes it very interesting. She talks very fast so i would recomend recording her lectures to go over when studying your notes. tests are right out of lecture so TAKE GOOD NOTES, if you miss class you'll be behind.
as long as you show up you will pass i took her for 1301 and 1302
Take notes!! Listen to lectures and take notes. Do not miss a class because it's too much info to miss. She also gave out extra points on certain days ehich I know helped me keep a B. Use a recorder I will be using one for her Hist 1302 class in Spring. It will help!! Class was very interesting.
hard grader. first class i ever failed.. never missed a day in her class, got all the extra credits, went to both days for reviews and wrote as much as i could on the test essay.. yet it was never too good for her that a person tries..
If you just do the test reviews you will definitely ace her tests super easy! She is awesome and i would recommend her to anyone!
I love Mrs. Jach! Her class and test are easy but you have to take good notes. She talks really fast so I recommend using a laptop to take notes. There are 2 test, a final, and 3 small reading assignments. Her test consist of term identifications, an essay, and multiple choice reading questions. Also, extra credit will help your grade a lot!
She is a very good teacher. I had online summer class with her. Just do what she says and you will be fine. No book needed. Read her notes only. 3 tests from reviews. Do the review from the notes. But no Wikipedia is allowed. If you do so, you will get a zero on that test. SO please do as she says and you will get good grade. I got C because I did
Class is setup and organized very well. Everything you need to make an A is there for the taking. Prof. Jach has a passion for History, and relays it perfectly. I will use her again.
I took her online summer course for History 1302. I hated history going into the class, but her online lectures were so good, I actually enjoyed them and learned something. You MUST take notes on her lectures and use main textbook as a reference. There will be questions from the 2nd book on test. Follow her reviews, type answers & you'll do well
I love her! She is by far my favorite professor! I took her for both 1301 and 1302. There is alot of information, which means a lot of notes; but it's history, there is a lot of information to cover. She is extremely helpful & as long as you show up to class, take good notes, & study for the tests you will make an A! I wish she taught more classes!
I took this class online and it was super hard the tests. She didn't grade her classes on time she states that she has other classes to grade that took her first. Her test are super hard only a hour to take impossible.
Best teacher I've had so far! LOTS of notes but interesting lectures and she loves the subject so it makes the lectures fun. Goes over what will be on test, once you see how she tests they are not hard. No textbook required just a reader for tests. Gives extra credit for attendance also. Very nice and a good teacher as well, highly recommended!
I Love Dr. Jach!!! As long as you go to class take good notes (i recommend recording her lectures) you will do well in her class. Lectures were interesting and she gives extra credit on tests. I made a 111 on her final. You do have to study (we are in college) but is a great class.
Do not under any circumstance TAKE HER. She is very very hard. You have to answer 50 terms from her muffled unclear lectures, which only 10 will be on the test, basically write an "well prepared" essay for 6 question which u don't know which one u will have all in 90 minutes. If u don't have time to keep repeating the lecture for 1 term.TIME CONSUM
Lots of extra credit. Everything you need to know is in the lectures. Only 3 homework assignments from $20 online book, no other book needed. 3 written tests that are not easy, you're supposed to be prepared to write 4 essays to ensure the 1 you studied is on the test, but I only ever studied 1 and out of sheer luck they were all on the tests.
Although I received a D in this class, it was primarily due to my own issues and circumstances. I have taken four online courses and this course is THE best. Instruction was well organized, lectures were clear and comprehensible; I have gained a comprenhensive understanding of the making of the Unites States of America. Highly recommend her.
I took Professor Jach for 1301 and loved her! The tests are fully written and taken straight from her lecture with a little section on readings from the e-reader, but she does a brief review session before the tests. She keeps her lectures pretty interesting, & as long as you take notes and study them it's easy to make an A, she's an easy grader.
Hands the BEST professor at HCC, The way that she prepares you for her class can benefit you in all of your other classes. people may complain because the tests are all essay but trust me when I say she makes it easy!!! If you don't take her it would be a shame. She is also very caring and is always willing to help if you ask no matter what!
HARD, HARD, HARD! She lectures straight from power point, for the entire hour and a half class, and she talks fast! she doesn't go back if ask her to repeat something she only goes back a sentence or two. Have to memorize 50 terms for only 10 to be on the exam, and the exams are super hard, all about the essay which has to be long and worth 40%!
THE BEST HISTORY TEACHER!! she makes the class interesting and fun! although the tests are a bit hard, if you study well enough you should be okay. Never used the textbook. gives extra credit randomly for attendance. great teacher if you aren't LAZY.
Professor Jach is a very fun teacher and I learned a lot of interesting things from her course but she speeds through the lectures, and when you ask her to repeat something she pretty much shrugs it off and continues teaching. Her tests are pretty much impossible to pass and unless you have a recording device you are screwed.
Took the class online and you can barely understand her lectures which your trying to listen to as well as write everything she says down. The lectures are not interesting at all. Her tests are extremely hard even though she gives you "hints". Should give more assignments to help learn the material better. I don't recommend online class.
She is a great History teacher... I learned a lot in her class...but her exams are very hard and call for lots of memorization...depending on the grade I get for 1301 I may take her for 1302...I'm thinking this will be my first C ever, which I'm not happy about.
Professor Jach was a great teacher! She's super nice. Although her tests are very hard, it's all written tests so basically memorization is key. She speeds through her lectures a little fast. Otherwise great teacher! I'll definatley take her for 1302!And would recommend anyone else who is fast to learn to take her as well!
Great Professor! Good note taking and attendance is a must in order to do well on exams. There is a lot of memorization so you need to stay on top of the material. She is always willing to help you and is super nice! Highly recommend
Took Hist1301 online summer2012. NOT easy. lectures are long + its hard to hear her bc there's a lot of static. She talks fast so i had to rewind alot. The tests were hard. You need to do short answer, essay +mc and it has to be taken at HCC campus. Didnt need to read the book. I don't recommend. I wish i didnt take her even though i will get an A.
She is the best History Teacher HCC has
Dr. Jach is a great professor. The main thing is to do the homework which is online, go to class every time, and take good notes. She gives you the essay prompts that will be on the test and all the terms that you go over. Make practice essays and notecards and study and you are able to make an A!
Extremely helpful professor. She tries to help her students the best she can. She knows her history very well.
This professor is awesome. She is willing to help all her students no matter what. She gives extra credit assignments, as well as extra cred points for going to class everyday. She is also very knowledgeable about her history. I would recommend Prof. Jach.
This is a hard class .If History is not Your Major than i won,t recommend you to take this class.
Prof Jach was an amazing professor. I definitely recommend her class. She was very knowledgable and I genuinely feel like I learned something from her! She gives extra credit opportunities and if you attend class, take notes, and do your online assignments you'll do great... WONDERFUL professor!
She doesn't care about English Grammar or spellings. As long as you make your point in your test, you are fine. I took her history 1301, 1302, and I will take her again.
Dr.Jach is a good Prof. Not picky on grammar and spelling on her ALL essay tests. You need to know the information well though. She grades fairly and is very knowledgeable. As a mature student, I found her professional, and I enjoyed learning from her. Not a blow off class, prepare to take lots of notes, with good notes, you will do fine on tests.
By JoJo- Knowledgeable and fair.Jach's class is no blow off, you will learn and must pay attention "good thing". Tests are solid essay/w M/C on line day before. Good notes are a must to pass. Recommended for the student that wants to learn and earn a grade. Spelling and punctuation not graded on essays but contents is. Good solid Prof.
If you HAVE to make an "A" DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS as u have to HAVE to take really good notes or you'll end up making a C or lower! Her Exams are not very easy as they consist of essay + m/c+ ID's. with ID's she gives you 30 of which only 8 or 10 will be on the exam. Although she is a very funny and nice teacher, her grading is harsh.
Never take this professor, she grades hard.My GPA was 4.0, just because of her class it went down.she is really hard.Again never take this professor if you want to maintain a good GPA.
Fun lectures and very helpful. Learned a lot. Shocked to see someone say that everyone failed the first test, which was not my experience in class. Some people failed, but she told them that one bad test did not mean that you could not still do well in the class. You need to take good notes. I don't think anyone dropped the class I was in.
Loved this class and this professor. Great fun lectures. She does talk fast, but repeats stuff and lets you ask questions. The tests aren't easy - you do need to study, but she give a good review and you know what to expect. Have signed up for Hist 1301 from her. Really cares about her students.
she is great teacher. I took both hist 1301 and 1302 with her. her lectures is enough and you do not need to buy a book. but you have to buy e reader and read the article online for answering the multiple choice. question. her exams are both IDs and essays, and she reviews before the exams. she does not care about spell and grammer.
I took this as a hybrid class. This prof is good, but not for me and many others who have a lot on their plate. She gives you work that is equivalent to three classes. There are no assignments, just tests. She randomly puts stuff on her tests, it's really awful and stressful. I wouldn't take this class or recommend it
I took her hybrid course, and I. LOVE. HER. She's very tough, but she made history so interesting. She loves her subject, and it made me love it too. Her tests are essays, and she wants you to over-explain everything and include all the facts you can, so it's a lot of work and studying, but it's worth it. I recommend her if you're willing to work!
NEVER take this professor, she grades HARD. My GPA was 4.0, just because of her class it went down, she makes it really hard. She is good in lecturing, but her materials are bulky, her exams are CRAZY; 10 identifiers, an essay + an extra credit essay and 30 multiple questions. This is the most stressful class i ever took, regretted taking her class.
I took both American histories with her and she is incredible! You won't need to buy the book,if you take good notes or record her lecture, she tests on only what she talks about in class, and if you need help she tutors for free in the library which will help alot(especially if you go before exams for a review)Definitely my favorite professor at HCC
She is very sweet. 3 essay exams, 3 reading assignments. She is very helpful. We don't use the book at all, but you have to buy the e-reader to do the assignments. Took her for both history 1301 and 1302
By far an outstanding teacher ! If you plan on procrastinating, this is not the class for you. You get what you deserve and tests are difficult. You have to really work hard to get a good grade. She is willing to explain and help you on anything. COMMITMENT IS A MUST !!!!!!!! By the way ... she's cute ;)
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER! Her lectures are very easy to comprehend as long as you take notes and either skips and doesn't linger on boring topics unless its important. Tests are a bit lengthy I would suggest writing the essay first then the identifiers in order to save time. Shes very cute and funny making the lectures worth listening to. Easy class.
She is a wonderful instructor and she is so funny in class. We don't need any textbook but need e-reader. she offers many opportunities of extra credit in test or quiz. Her test is not very hard but need a lot of preparation and a lot reading. This class is about understand, writing and memory; if you study hard then you can get a good grade.
She's the best history professor I've ever had. It helps to record all her lectures. She can be picky about dates and events so watch out for that. This isn't an easy breezy class, you do have to work for it. 3 major written exams, 3 multiple choice quizzes online, 3 online assignments, and 1 reading. It's a LOT of work but you will learn a lot.
This is hard class. I do not recommend her class.
I loved taking Dr. Jach's class. She is extremely knowledgeable about the subject matter. I took a 5 week session so there was a lot of lectures that were take home, which if you took notes and paid attention you would pass. You MUST study. I liked how this class was challenging, you don't find that often in Community College.
She loves history and she teaches a way more in depth version then most. 3 tests and 3 assignments! She will help you if you need it!
This professor is amazing and I loved her class because It inspired me to want to learn. she makes sure that you understand what is going on in the class. the only thing is be ready to read a lot.
Dr. Jach is an amazing professor. She is passionate in the subject and her lectures are clear and detailed. She is a tough grader but there is NOTHING on the tests that are not in the review/class lectures. If you read, study and pay attention in this class, you will be pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable it is.
Dr. Jach is probably one of the best professors there is. First semester of my freshman year, and she made fun and a great experience to learn about history. She goes in detail about the events and is very humorous in her lectures. She is always willing to answer your questions about anything for the test. She is fair on her tests. Take her class.
She is a good teacher, she will help you if you work hard. However, the only thing is that she gives a lot of homework and a lot of readings (that is something good if you are taking only this class). She gives help if she sees you working hard!
She is a good teacher and knows her stuff, she will reply to emails quick and always helpful. However, she gives a lot a lot of homework and a lot of readings. 3 exams which you don't get enough time to finish them. Some of my classmates and I ran out of time on all 3 exams which ended in low grades, exams are 80% writing and 20% multiple choice.
I took the 5 wk class and it was rough. However, her lectures are GREAT. It's like someone gossiping about previous presidents and the way people thought back in the day. I loved it and was able to understand and make sense of it. It wasn't boring at all. I've taken history before and had to drop it. Thank God for Professor Jach!!
3 exams which are not cumulative. 3 Assignements which require reading and critical thinking. The 3 exams have a portion that are multiple choice questions a over a lot of reading material. Take extremely good notes or beg someone else that does. Not much class participation but her lectures are very good.
very funny and great at what she does
huh !!! tries to be funny ... and LOL no body laughs -__- gives you infinite amount of work tons of readings huge tests and many more ... I wish easiness could be rated from 0 - 5 and not 1-5 coz i rather would have given 0 for easiness -_- :
Tests are 80% written and 20% MC. She expects alot (like alot) from you. Definitely know the dates and importance of the events. I wrote a paragraph for each ID. I only use my lecture notes for studying (I took notes on my laptop). Do the reviews - prepare 4 essays out of 6 (since she randomly picks 3). If you do alot of work, you will get an A.
She is a great professor and really knows what she is talking about. However, you have to work to get an A. Take good notes and study. I am a foreign student and she was extremely helpful. It wasn't easy but I would take her again.
Great and passionate professor but as other have said, she expects A LOT from you as if it's an advanced University course or something. I'd recommend this class if you're a History major but not if you already have enough on your plate because you will struggle just trying to pass. Seriously.
Gives really good lectures and makes history interesting but her tests are extremely difficult. She expects way too much from the students in my opinion. Her tests are unnecessarily hard. I like her but I definitely wouldn't recommend taking her if you're taking other hard classes. I have all A's so far but I'll be lucky if I even make a B.
Professor Theresa Jach is awesome! If you hate history like me and are looking for an understanding teacher who knows her stuff. Though exam questions are a lot for the time given, if you can study well with the reviews, take notes in class, ask questions and record her lectures, you are sure to get an A. Overall, very fun lectures and helpful!
I LOVE Dr. Jach! Super fair grader. Dr. Jach definitely takes into account who comes to class and turns in their assignments. I have already signed up for her 1302 class next semester. Dr. Jach is one of those professors who wants to see her students succeed.
Makes history interesting and what she expects on test and how they'll be graded very clear. One essay on each of the first two tests and 2 essays on the 3rd test. No cumulative final
Dr. Jach is likely one of the best lecturers I have ever met. I was scarcely bored in her class and enjoyed hearing her perspective on American History. There are 3 exams, 3 homework assignments, and a group project. This class was quite easy, but also quite time consuming. You will have to read a TON for her tests, though. Loved this class.
Do yourself a favor and take her class. She assigns quite a bit of reading, but it is literally JUST reading. If you are trying to just scrape by through school, please don't waste your time and your classmates'. If you truly want to know about the side of history that America tries to forget and hide - take this course.
Awesome Teacher
I say this not be pretentious but being honest , I am an A student and have been most of my life. I received a B in her class and this was barely. Her tests are hard as can be and she expects way to much on the tests as far as material. She lectures from beginning to the end and my notes were pages long and I was expected to memorize everything.
The only drawback is that you have to take on campus final exam even though you take online class. But she gives you 4 essay topics few weeks before finals and also mentions what she expects you to write in each of them. Just read the book and it would be easy. Grades considerately in finals and assignments.
Definitely taught on a university level, so if you're not prepared for that, find a different professor. Fantastic lectures, difficult essay exams, just make sure you take detailed notes in class and do the reviews early and you'll be fine. If you don't like history, this class may make you change your mind.
she's a difficult prof
Terrible teacher :( do not want to take her class again. It likes a nightmare in my life
Took this class for online courses and hope to get an easy A . But, lots of papers and assignments. Final exam will be a closed exam (no notes) with 1 long essay with 3 complex definitions and 1 more research essay for a specific book. Ton of things to do with this class. Plus you have to pay $35 for a stupid website.
You have to get 70% in total to pass this class and her online quizzes account for 36%, which costs you $35 in order to get an access code to do these quizzes. And even when it is an online class, you have to take the final exam on campus and it's a closed-book exam, which asks you to write 2 essays and answer 4 definition questions.
heavy workload
Saw a lot of bad comments and just wanted to point this out. You take her class to learn and to get used to university level coursework. If you don't plan on transferring to an university to pursue your education further then there is no need for you to be wasting your time or her's. Bottom line: take notes, come to class, and listen to lectures.
She is very good at lecturing.
Dr. Jach is really sweet and realistic. There are only 3 homework assignments, but the exams are where things get tough. If you don't study and miss taking notes in class, you will NOT pass. I loved her, though.
Be careful taking this class online! Not because the professor, but because your tests are essay topics and you have to write two short essays and one long essay. Again, since it's online, there isn't much interactions unless you go up to her in person, but at least the written assignments, she gave fair feedback. She's a good pick.
Great professor. tests on lectures rather than the textbook, sometimes she talked faster than I could write notes but she is available outside of class to help fill in the key information. She does respond to effort, so if you struggle she will help; if you do not care, she will focus on those that do.
her test is basically a game. A full-blown game with her even "rolling dices" to choose our topics for essays. You start off with 6 topics she rolls the dice and the numbers she rolls 4 times are contenders for her to pick 3 out of the 4 rolled. Then you have IDS (vocab) around 60 of them and the ones that are related to the 3 essay topics r out???
She is very passionate about history, and she gives good lectures. She is not very clear on what she wants, she will say she does not care about the dates on tests/essays but will mark you for it. She lets her feelings get the best of her and will sometimes spaz out in class. Her tests are very tough with the IDs and essays, she makes a game of it.
The test are hard but you will be fine if you take good notes, she lets you record the lectures if notes aren't helpful to you. Extra credit opportunities. Teaches you about untold history and what really happened, is always willing to explain stuff again to make sure everyone understands, answers emails fast.
You definitely need to work for your grade. There is a lot to memorize. She will be talking straight through the lecture, and you need to take notes the whole time. There is a lot of reading to do for assignments and for the final exam. There is also an annoying group project but its really easy. I though she was a great teacher.
She's indeed an amazing professor, but if you are not good at memorizing, it is guaranteed that you will FAIL. If you plan on taking 6 classes do not take this professor. I repeat, "Do not take her." If history is your major or you enjoy it, go ahead. But if you are in here to pass and move on, my sisters and brothers, waka pass (don't take her).
she is the best professor i have had my first year here and i am so glad i took her twice. yes her tests are "difficult" because you actually have to STUDY but if you dont then why are you in college? i dont mean to sound snotty but her course structure is by far the best you are going to get. the reviews are the test! study three essays & u r good
Tough grader
You really need to read all the books she gave and be sure to be prepared for the examinations as it might catch you off guard since that she usually gives essay examinations.
Took this class over the summer for five week semester and did not struggle at all. She assigned a book to read in addition to the textbook during the semester but as long as you read you'll be okay. Her exams are essays but as long as you have a quiet place to focus you'll be okay.
Before taking Prof. Jach i looked at the ratings here and i was scared but then i just decided to go for it. I can tell you honestly she is the best. i'm an intl. student so american hist is very new. She makes it seem like she was there and she gives details but tells fun stories. She is very encouraging. I'm obvi taking her for 1302
Solid Prof, tests are essay centered and name and date focused. Will not get a good grade if you forget those easily.. Funny lectures but insightful, wish the online class had more of them because the textbook is very dull.. compared to the lectures anyway. Very well structured online class, very good communication. Feedback could be more detailed.
she has study guides that has 70+ terms, she picks 8 out of them for the exam. 6 essays on the study guide she picks 3 for the exam and you pick one to do. Theres a group project/video. A 400+ pages book you have to read. An extra credit Book, three assignments/short essays and discussions throughout the semester. Basically its a lot!
Took her for HIST1301 online but had proctor exams that I wasnt aware of until the syllabus. The class is not bad but requires you to read 2 books or 3 if u want extra credit. 3 online quizzes for each chapter and drops the lowest scores. 2 graded papers through turnitin and 2 proctor exams. Tough grader, if u read the books ull do great.
I love her class . There are no surprises and she grades fairly. Use the exam review. It looks like a to, but follow her instructions for studying and it is doable.
Professor is nice and all, but when it comes to testing she tests pretty heavy. The other assignments will be sooooo easy but however the test will be on some harvard grading. She expects the students to know exactly what and where happened on 20 different events from 3 different eras, with dates, names, and affliction. don't recommend
Be ready to write 8+ pages with high detail about specific events and know how those event affected multiple different events. you have Multiple home work assignment that she expects to be written like your tests on top of that you have 3 lengthy tests each one is hand written with no multiple choice so be ready to write.
Professor Jach does not teach a course that is student-friendly. If you don't have hours on end to dedicate to her class, it would be best to avoid her entirely. She creates extremely dense exams with unclear grading criteria, that purposefully can't be completed in the time allotted.
I took her online class for HIST 1302. Every time I'm learning her lecture, I cannot understand some of the parts, but I cannot ask questions during the lectures about what I cannot understand. All of her lectures are videos, which means We don't have chances to communicate with her. She also requires a textbook, which is useless.
This professor's grading policy and tests are nonsense. I had 4 classes and got A+ in each of them except this class.
The profs grading style is very outdated and unfair. Online resources are diffucult to locate and are vauge when in regards to the task. She has a closed and very unfair mind towards the evidence that you use when adressing the prompt or supporting your claims in essays, which makes it impossible to earn a good grade. Don't take her class.
im currently taking this class, she had wonderful reviews but i wish i didnt take it. we have assignments EVERYDAY our first exam is 6 ESSAYS and only gives an hour and a half she says to write all possible responses to what she could assign you. very rude and LOTS of writing. she expects so much. first class i might actually fail.
This class is a ton of work! Her exams are insanely long with a very short time to complete it. Quizzes are super detailed and will threaten you if you try to cheat. Fairly rude as well. I would avoid this class at all costs. The grass is greener elsewhere
So I took Dr. Jach's class twice. Once for HIST 1301 & the other for HIST 1302. Her lectures are engaging and I personally feel like I learned a lot about our countries history. With that said as long as you pay attention to her lectures and read the textbook, you will PASS. She's tough grader but she provides you with everything thing you need.
Though grader... She is not a professor who cares if you pass or not.
Many people say this class is challenging, and I understand the first week, about half of our course dropped out and after some did not pass. First and foremost, Dr. Jach knows what she's talking about and warned us about people dropping her class. Regarding grades, she will lead you to water, but she will not make you drink.
terrible class and experience, we have chapter quizzes and her own lecture quizzes. she assigned students tons of writings for the exams, and everyone in the class is complaining about it. except for all the reading from the textbook, she wants us to read two other books and write an essay about each. ready for writing at least 70 pages of paper.
This class was definitely the hardest out of the four classes I took this semester however it was more of what I was expecting from a college course. We had chapter and lecture quizzes weekly, if you watched the lecture video you should be fine for the quiz. Lectures were good in my opinion. The exams are hard, I wrote 12+ Essays for each.
She is a good instructor, but you can only take her course if her teaching style matches your learning style. She grades fairly, with essay tests, and her content for her course is from her lectures, not books. I did well in her class because I simply liked the subject she taught. At the end of the day, she simply just did not like me as a student.
Splendid professor! Very organized and caring for your grade. quizzes are weekly but really simple as long as you read the chapter. Communication is instantaneous almost always and will always help you find a solution to your troubles. Also pretty funny at times.
She's not a bad professor for sure but the work can be tiresome and be aware of the final exam. I got a 0 on that when I actually did all the topics and copied it to the turnitin link.
DO NOT TAKE HER. she is a horrible rude teacher who does not care about her students at all! She replies late, grades very very tough, gives SO much work to do, and expects everything and everyone to be perfect! TRUST ME you do not want to take this teacher!!
Grades are crazy dont even bother
Do you think you love writing? Think again. This professor expected a LOT out of a 1000-level history class and grades as though she's dealing with grad students. Imprecise, stuffy communicator. Aside from assigning some extra credit after red-lining the first essay assignment, I saw little indication this professor cared about our success.
She doesn't care about student's well being. She grades very tough on the essay exams and is very rude. Won't take her again!
Dude nah very tough grader, haven't interacted with her, there's a boatload of work. The median grades on analytical essays are legit like 50's grade wise (which are the essays that reflect your grade the most) most of the quizzes the means are 60's grade wise. Honestly one of the hardest teachers I've run into, and I've run into some bad ones.
Dr. Jach is a decent professor & her lectures are very thorough, but is a very tough grader, i somehow failed all 3 exams, and while she gives "reviews" so you feel like you can get a head start, it's a trap because 25 of the id's & 3 of the essay topics are chosen at random and you don't know what they are until the day of the exam
Every class the entire semester was a lecture or test day where we didn't have class. The lectures were easy to take notes and she made them interesting. Out of the 6 total grades for the semester, 3 of them were tests. Tests were essays over a prompt and the prompts were very hard because they required so much information. Would not take again.
Not recommend taking her class. I took online classes and she has 2 quizzes due every weeks. Review quizzes are fine, but it is impossible to do lecture quizzes without watching her own vids 20-30 mins long. You must write a lot of papers. I had to prepare 4 different papers for each essay. Have to read a different book for the book essay.
I did terrible on first exam because I didn't follow her guidelines. She helped me bring my grade up from a D to a C. I spent too much time on the textbook. Focus on the lectures and the exams, they are more important. If you prepare as you go for the exams, they are easy. Wish I would have done that on exam one, might have had a B
This African American history class was awesome! I learned so much and the reading and lectures were so important. Hard topics but important. Loved the class!
I loved the class - online is hard, but the lectures are good. Feels like you are in a classroom. If you follow the instructions the exams are a breeze. Prepare as you go, so look at the review right away and don't wait until the last minute or it will seem like a lot of work.
You can tell she loves her job. Her lectures are very fun, even though I don't like history, she makes you willing to listen. Little to no assignments, you have a lot of time to do them. Easy grader too, she will let you redo/makeup work. Her exam reviews are in depth, gives good feedback on them. Discussions almost every week. You won't regret!
She is a certain most sincere and kind teacher. She knows her subject perfectly and will gladly explain everything to the class. A little difficult class because of the book essay, but I did pass well. Tests all in person, 3 tests, 2 books essay, and only 2 assignments online. Good for international student
Honestly AVOID her class, save a headache, Coming from someone with a bachelor degree and that is professionally successful.Lots of reading pretty much MEMORIZING,very HARD GRADING, nothing pleases her, poor communication. Will RUIN your semester, be the judge, from 32 students, 19 dropped out, only 7 passed with less than B-. Dept Chief was notify
Honestly, I would not take her. She runs your essays through an AI checker, and if she believes AI helped you write them, she will flat-out give you a zero (even counts with Grammarly). Also, she is a bit insensitive. She flat-out wrote "negro" on my paper, making it seem like that was the correct word to use in an essay..
Dr.Jach left no space for breathing, although she as a person is great. Quizlets, quizzes and essays due every weekend and 4 major papers which accounted for more than half of your grade, you have to read the book and buy another book. Would not take her course again
She shows a shocking lack of concern for students, routinely fail to fulfill even the most basic responsibilities of their role showing a complete disregard for the educational experience.this behavior not only undermines the trust and respect students have for their instructor but also undermines the integrity of the entire academic institution
I like this professor. She is an easy grader on tests and assignments who values your efforts and dedication to her class. from her lecture, you learned many things about history. Her class does require students to be more self-paced, so you have to be ready for that, otherwise, it would be overwhelming. Not easy A but valuable A to achieve.
I wouldn't take her honestly, she doesn't really explain why you got the grade you did. You can literally have a paper that worth a 100, but she just gives you a 98. Her quizes tho, if you are the type who just wants to use quizlet to get it done, won't happen with her. Her questions r like made by her, and the stuff she says in her lectures
Lots of work from this teacher. Took the online course and there is several essays to do. Honestly the essays saved me from the actual tests as the essays were not so harshly graded. She advises from early on that you will be writing essays and to prepare for them ahead of time. As long as that is kept in mind the course is not hard.
Cusses throughout their lecture and has a tuff time handling other students and doesn't create a welcoming environment.
Assigns you to read two books, one is used for hyper-detailed quiz that you probably will miss while reading. The other is 400 pages of reading and an essay following that. You're expected to write 16 essays while reading the first book. Bad at communicating and VERY vague about objectives. I didn't know I have to write 16 essays.
she makes u do journal entries and literally nit-picks everything. u could have all the info and she'll still have smth to complain abt. she js does tm; all ur info has to come from her lectures
Profs classes are engaging, even for history-haters. Though workload is heavy, the feedback and grading are fair. Combining study tools like Unstuckstudy with the textbook helped me ace this class.
she doesnt rly give extra cred or round up or allow redos and grades too strict. she js does too much for an hcc class man
I appreciate that the professor strives to provide good explanations and genuinely cares about her class. However, I wouldn't take her again because the workload is excessive; she assigns about six exams per unit on average..
History has always been my weakest subject and does not play a role in my career goals in the slightest, so I regret taking her course, as it is only a means to an end. That said, I can feel the passion that Doctor Jach has for US history, and if this is an interest of yours, I strongly recommend taking her course.
