Terrible teacher, very intimidating, won't help you at all
Teaches like all students are CS majors. Unreasonably demanding.
Fine if you really "get" computers, otherwise fairly tough. Not too helpful.
Has trouble teaching to the point where non-CS majors know what is going on
great teacher if you put in your share. HELPFUL. expects college level work
I like her. I think people are intimidated by the amount of work she assigns.
Terrible personality, not willing to help students at all!
i'm a cs minor and i still found her expectations to be ridiculosly high..avoid
Very nice, but expects a lot, everything must be done her way. avoid if possible
DON"T Take!!! Gets mad if you ask questions. Unreasonable in correcting.
Worst teacher I've ever had!! Very mean and has no feelings for people.
Gee, it sure would be nice to have a clue about programming b-4 we get to lab.
her lectures did not really relate to what was on the tests. veryimpatient
Not very nice, sometimes she tries but you can tell it is fake
hard to relate to. not very friendly. tests are VERY hard
I think she is the devil re-incarnate. Aviod at all costs!!!!!!!!!!
Exams are tough. Lot of info in a small time. Too quick with powerpoint slides..
Lets see... fill in the blank slide shows... for a senior level class get real
Awful prof. They should fire her. Don't take this class w/ her! You'll hate it!
Just run the other way
Demanding, but very personable. Thinks we're all COBOL programmers.
Way too demanding... thinks that this is the only class we have...
Tough class, but a hard working, genuinely caring professor
Class is REALLY HARD!!! COBOL SUCKS, but Peterman is a decent teacher
she is geniunely caring if you put forth effort. hard, but you sure do learn.
Lots o' work, but she's helpful. Just make her laugh (it helps).. gobble gobble

Does a good job of making a cake course difficult! Lectures were great for naps
assigns a lot of work. thinks that it is your only class but helpful if you ask.
Terrible prof...ended up dropping the class..don't know why they let her teach!
Very impatient and not very nice. Expects you to know as much as she does.
She's a helpful, quality prof. - but tough for non-CS students
Go to office hours& e-mail, she will help! Study end of section ?'s 4 tests! A+
Avoid this Prof like the Plague! She thinks she is God's gift to programming!
Good teacher, ask for help and be involved
Do not take the Prof. her work load is rediculous and unclear very very hard
wouldn't change anything learned a lot
Wants kids to learn and pushes them very hard.

I learned one thing in this class, I suck at programming and she confirmed it.
NO Please run the other way. She is horible. Work load is rediculous.
i loved her, pesonable and approachable, i thought the work load was reasonable
She is a lot better professor than people say. She will give you help anytime.
Might be helpful to some, just not the males. A possible male hater.
I still am having programming nightmares
VERY HARD CLASS, VERY NICE TEACHER AFTER YOU GET ON HER GOOD SIDE!!
This class was the biggest waste of time ever. I know what a printer is!!
Dr. Jeckel and Mrs. Hyde...God help you on her bad days...
Found it boring, lots of busy work, and lab tests test things we haven't done
A lot of busy work but it's easy points, willing to help you. A good prof.
had floppy failure, turned paper before end of class..still docked 15% on paper.
expects you to know as much as she does about programming...study & you'll do OK
Hard class, but she will help you with anything, anytime day or night.
Helpful on grading papers... didn't like database project
Just pay attention, know some math, & participate...you'll do fine!
COBOL - useless subject - Did a good job teaching it.
not a hard class, she still remembers me years later, cares about students
GREAT professor. A little mean, but its good for you. She'll teach you a lot.
teaching style NOT for me. Felt overwhelmed with work all semest. Gets worse as you go along. Big programming project due two days AFTER the final exam, in the middle of exam week. Flies through her powerpoints and does not make them available online.
Very well-organized class, she knows what she is teaching and is always on top of things, everything is clear from the beginning. Be careful, the class is taugh, not because CICS is hard, but because of the amount of time you need to dedicate to project.
Hated her teaching style and the class.
A very good prof, but can be a total witch. Stay on her good side and she'll help you through the class.
gave extra when needed
Not too helpful
Didn't particularly care for the class, and Teresa was an okay prof. A lot of work for just a 100 level classm, she doesn't have any control over the material though.
It's a pretty easy class. Basically self taught. Do labs outside of class because you can't finish them in class. Tests are easy if you study; 5pt quiz every week on upcoming chapter. READ and they will give you easy points.
Lectures are pointless since she quizzes you on the stuff before she teaches it to you, so you have to read the book and understand it. Kind of easy grader though. Not the best professor, but not the worst either.
Better then expected. Class is of medium dificulty. Study for tests and you will be fine.
Don't like her teaching style. She gives chances for extra credit. But you have to do half of assignments ahead of time just to get them done in time.
some of the items we are to do are unclear, quizzes before class are out of control(very particular points from the readings, labs if not done before class ARE NOT going to be completed during class...no the best teacher ever
Too much outside work for an intro class and she expects you to know a lot too. Only 3 exams, which are fine if you study. You must keep up with the labs and outside assignments otherwise you'll lose a lot of points.
Never take this class unless you are able to never make a mistake and take a horrible attitude from your prof. She is incredibly picky, there is way to much outside work. Everytime I asked for help she had a snotty remark to made and was generally not helpgul at all. Dont take her class.
Do your labs before class otherwise there is no way you can get them done in time. Prof is very picky on grading. She makes you feel stupid when asking her a question.
Professor in very nice to you as long as you do the work. Not a blow off class, must do all assignments before class and read for quizzes each week. If you want to really learn about computers, take this class! DONT CHEAT SHE WILL CATCH YOU!
she's mean, boring, and requires things/a lot more work than other cs 150 professors. you can usually just turn in lab work and leave lab, but she makes it mandatory and you dont get credit if you dont go. it was dumb, and shes mean.
Don't miss a class or you up the creek. Don't bother asking for COBOL help because she "Doesn't teach cobol" so you better know it cold. No JCL coding but you HAVE to do well on the projects because they just build off each other. Screw this, get permission to take 380 instead!
Always Mean, Always Angry. Lab tests and assignments are impossible to finish in the 50 mins. of lab time. Lectures are boring, instructions are unclear, and help is terrible. Take another prof.
She is an arrogant, insulting, jaded, pedant. Her class was, by far, the worst I've had at GVSU.
Fairly easy class so fo far.

I have heard that other CS classes don't give nearly as much hw and this lady...there is about 2-3 hours of homework a week but it is easy and you actually learn a ton of stuff about computers. She is also very nice and always willing to help. Doesn't like it when she has to answer the same question in class twice so listen!
Too much everything and quite snappy at times. Okay person, just too into her subject and assigns too much homework for an introductory class.
Professor Peterman is a good prof. She knows what she teaches back and forth. She mildly plays favorites but not to the extent that it affects your grade. Easy, but you have to work a bit which you should be used to in college. Not jaded, not a pedant, not a fire breathening hag dragon. A nice lady who teaches well.
This professor is very knowledgable in on what she teaches. She also makes it very clear what is expected on you. However, the lab tests and quizzes were extremely difficult. She also grades assignments harshly.I am divided on my final opinion of her, not great, not horrrible. But if you take her class, realize that it is not a slack off class.
Hard teacher..and confusing to learn from.
Just about the stupiest class you can take. Not really an AI class, just another SWS incogneto. Wrote a bunch of papers and did some data entry, other than that, no AI. Horrible, DO NOT TAKE WITH PETERMAN!
Class was a joke, ridiculous amounts of homework and a useless book. Professor made wild accusations to some students. Take any other class but this one if you can, i wish i did. Probably in the bottom 3 of all IS classes i have taken.
Super nice lady!! This was one of the only profs that bothered to learn my name. She is very quick to help with homework questions, and as long as you keep up on the work you'll be fine. She doesn't demand attendence, but if you skip you'll get behind. Take her if you want to learn a lot. Good gen ed.
Enjoyed Class. New Class ASP.Net no longer CICS. I was really interested in the class. Seemed like we ran out of material to cover.really enjoyed class though would recommend.
i have never had a problem in a CS class until now. she tests you on exact vocab off powerpoints and does not accept any variation...focus is on regurgitation of words, not learning ideas. sometimes doesn't teach at all and just lets students figure it out for themselves. i'd go on, i'm running out of room. DO NOT TAKE CS350 WITH HER!
Really easy to get ahead and do the homework. The tests can be challenging but if you show up to class and study you should be fine.
Bad prof, avoid. Not necessarily because of bad assignments or inability to teach, but because of her absolute lack of concern for students that might have an opinion that differs in any way from her's. She is cold, uncaring, and will not grade fairly. She also tests on obscure unimportant stuff. I say this after professionally working with ASP.NET
Might come off as kind of a B at first, but it got better as the semester went on. Seems like no one did good on any of the tests or quizzes, but she curved everything in the end. If you take this class post-2008, you might be driven crazy because the VM Ware totally screws everything up when you go in lab and try to save/send things.
A tad arrogant but she definitely explains what she needs done. A couple of the labs are tough, others are easy. Syllabus lays out all homework for the semester so you can get ahead, and the homework is very easy, just doing the steps in the book. Quizzes/Exams are pretty easy too. Very knowledgeable teacher, favors people in class discussions...
I liked prof. Peterman, though I felt like her expectations for the class were too high. Some of the labs were too tough and it seemed like no one finished. On the other hand she really knows VB and teaches it pretty well and doesn't use powerpoints. She'll tell you what's on the exams for the most part. Overall she was a decent professor.
Labs and homework was sometimes difficult, but she was very helpful and responsive to emails and gave test information in lecture.
Talks about her family too much, extremely unhelpful in labs. You might as well do it yourself or take this class online. Class discussions very boring and you have too many labs to do in a little time. Nice lady but I would get a different Professor.
Do yourself a favor and do not get her. If you ask her a question, she'll ask you if you read the textbook, and if you did she'll say just read it again. Not helpfull at all!
Decent lectures, relevant material. Kind of weird about helping with homework. Makes you to struggle through the material sometimes, which gets old. Fair grader though.
Very crude and demeaning to her students. If you go to her for better clearity she will send you away by telling you to re-read the book. On emails she replys with the least words possible giving no clearity of your problem. She isnt there to help her student suceed but to be a obstacle for her students to get over. Only professor for the course
Definitely drives the material due to quiz every week over chapters. Class was very enjoyable. Learned a lot and very much enjoyed her.
She really has a lot to work on, starting with the way she teaches its not only demeaning but also annoying. I got out of there and in the future if you don't have to take her don't!!
Dont take if you have a choice. Her goal is to trip you up and get you with your grade. First day she always states she has tenure so she doesnt care what the students think. By far the worse professor in the GV computer program. She changes her requirments from class to class
She know's her stuff, and has a passion about it. Cares about the performance of her students and encourages them to go the extra mile in assignments. I learned a lot in her class.
Truly a wonderful professor. She is tough but is fair. People who are posting saying that she is unhelpful probably didn't listen to her the first time. She doesn't like repeating herself, but if you have a legitimate question that you have made an effort to solve yourself, she is more than willing to help. Best professor I've ever had.
Prof. Peterman is by far the worst professor I have ever had. She is extremely rude and will respond to you in the shortest, most brief way possible. While she is very knowledgable, lectures are unorganized do little to help students learn. Homework and labs can be difficult because she expects you to do concepts never covered in class. Avoid her.
Peterman is often disliked for talking down to students, but I always viewed it as more of her just having fun with students in a snarky way. If you're easily offended, don't take her classes. She expects you to have a solid understanding of the fundamentals and won't answer basic questions. I went to her office hours and had a good experience.
Weekly quizzes. Have to go to class for participation. Her way or the highway. Condescending. Stays on topic of the most time. Not awful but not great, 5/10 recommend. Schools should focus on practical application for software and not pointless (and boring) projects. Visual basic is fun to learn/use so if you can zone her out, it won't be bad.
Peterman is a pretty good professor. Some students can find her to be a bit cold at first, but she's very helpful in her office hours and is easy to talk to after a little while. Grades homework hard, but labs pretty easy so it balances out. Come to class though, and be on time. You should enjoy.
Professor Peterman is an excellent professor as she really cares about the students and wants to get to know everyone. The class was fun but also a lot of work. I learned so much from this class in just one small semester. This professor really encouraged hard work and always to do your best.
She's extremely unorganized in lecture, so forget taking notes--it's an absolute mess. Labs are difficult and when you email her with questions she gives the shortest answer possible and sometimes the answers aren't even helpful. I dropped the class and am going to take it with a BETTER professor.
There's a 5 point quiz every Friday. Tests and labs are hard and there's a lot of homework.
The professor was very rude, and surprisingly doesn't understand how technology works. She refused to adopt to new technologies and blames others for stuff not working properly. She should come to class a more prepare and have a better attitude. I would avoid taking any courses with her if possible. You will thank me later.
Really great professor. Maybe makes it a little hard but wants students to do well and is always willing to help.
Weekly quizzes. Long (but few) homework assignments. Labs can be hard to finish in time. That said, Peterman helped me a lot in class, always answering my questions well and quickly. She's a very engaging teacher, and tries to get to know the students personally. I learned a ton from lecture and labs. Seems tough at first, but she's a great prof.
You have to go to this class every time unless you will be super lost. Take notes in class. Quizzes every Friday. Not hard unless you dont go. Shes a great teacher and makes the class super interesting.
