This teacher is legit. I was not excited prior to my first day in English, but she makes class as tolerable as she can. She has a mouth like a sailor, but don't let startle you as she is very kind. Class is not mandatory but you lose 5 points everyday you miss (for participation). Everything taught in class though is on Blackboard in case you miss
This is probably one of the best English teachers I've had. Ms. Scott is very helpful and understanding. I will definitely be taking her for ENC 1102.
Learned much in the course.Instructor fully prepared us for papers that will be written all through college.
Ms. Scott is very helpful and willing to help. You have to make sure you do all your work and you will get a good grade. I will take her again for Comp II
Attendance is mandatory. <-- This is the only negative aspect about this class. She even gives you a "dog ate my homework card" which allows you to exempt an assignment or you can turn it in at the end of the semester for 25 additional points. Ms. Scott creates a fun learning experience for the Non-English majors w/ tons of extra credit opportunity
Best professor I ever had! VERY HELPFUL, learned so much from her! Emailed her all the time-always responded w/in hrs! Disagree w/ previous user-doesn't have mouth like a sailor & is very funny! 5 papers/discussion boards/0 tests/final exam-offers a lot of extra credit & grades r posted w/in days. Strict on attendance, but let us out early @ times.
Professor Scott is a wonderful teacher. She made English bearable. She responds to emails and grade quickly. She's funny and an easy grader. It's almost impossible to fail her class unless you don't try at all. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does give attendance points for showing up.
I would recommend Professor Scott to anybody. She makes English for non-English majors fun.
I loved her ! Very down to earth and helpful, I'm defiantly taking her for ENC 1102 !
I took her online IDS course, and passed with an "S". It's a pass or fail class. I got a 100% on every paper (6), and really enjoyed taking her course. She tells you what to expect from the beginning, and her grading style is easy to understand. Wished I had taken her for English I and II, because she's the best grader. Thanks Mrs. T Scott!
Really easy going. Tons of extra credit. Wish I could take her class again
teacher was unorganized. unapproachable & impatient when you need to ask questions. Hard class.
Great teacher. Responded quickly. Book was enjoyable also.
She's the best!!!! Clear instructions, easy assignments!! Easy A. Take her!!!
Honestly, you don't even have to attend class except for the presentations. She does give you points for "In/out notes" but we only did them twice all semester. I think those points were directed more towards participation. There is no way you can fail her class unless you tried really hard to.
Professor Scott runs a great class. I took her Children's Literature Class and got a 99 in the class. She is very organized which I love. She responds to emails promptly. Very enjoyable class. Easy A if you do the work.
Professor Scott is amazing, she gives great feedback, explains exactly what she expects from you for essays and classwork. As long as you show up for class you and do your essays you will do great!
Made English class fun. Just make sure you read the assigned material and you'll be good to go.
Mrs. Scott is very helpful, cares about her students, fun, and hilarious. You can tell that she enjoys doing her job and She does a good job at teaching and getting her point across. There is no way you can get any grade below a 90% unless you don show up to class or wrote a last minute essay. I recommend you take her, I'm will have again for fall
I took English 1 at a different school in a different state and was blown away by how great this class was. Took it online and there was weekly readings in the novel The book of Lost Things, and a discussion for each week(sometimes bi-weekly). 3 major projects that were about average in difficulty. If you don't understand what she wants, ask!
She gave great feedback. She was very helpful!
I took Professor Scott for Eng1101 and Eng1102 and i loved her. She has a clear grading criteria for her papers and is very specific on how she wants them written but she makes English enjoyable! Gives you one homework pass and as long as you do your essays and online hw you will pass!
Did not like this teacher at all.
Tough grader. Ignores email. Always complains of how long of a day being at HCC. Skip this Professor.
Really good teacher!
She is an AMAZING professor. She completely understands the need to be somewhere else though, she prefers you to be in class to learn the content. I actually really enjoy her lectures and loves the way she explains things well and if you don't understand she is usually available in her office or through email.
She has a sarcastic attitude. attendance is a must unless you will fail
This class was the most easiest class ever. You will be reading a VERY good book that you can buy off of amazon for $8bucks. she gives you extra credit as well. There is just no way you can fail this class. All you do is read a VERY good book, then write about it. She is a very good teacher, and only like 3 essays. VERY EASY ESSAYS
Grades very unfairly, very boring in her class too.
Really enjoyed this professor. I have already signed up for another class with her. She responds to emails within minutes and is eager to help. For discussion 3 posts minimum, that's not stated in syllabus. Works cited is taken very seriously and you have to remind her about your extra credit points. But Overall phenomenal class. Book is great too
Doesn't like questions & makes you feel stupid.
Ms. Scott was an awesome professor and I would definitely take her again! She taught both my enc1101 and 1102 classes and I took 1102 online. She does a great job of organizing her resources online and her 6 week class flew by. She requires few papers and few discussions and wants you to do well!
This teacher is VERY picky. I had made an error on my works cited entry and lost half of my points on the discussion board. She wants a specific format... but then doesn't SAY what she wants. We use MLA 8 and the alleged standards on Purdue are NOT what she wants. I feel that a worksheet on citing books should be included because she's so picky.
She responds to emails very quickly. You have to read the syllabus because everything is spelled out there in detail for the course assignments. You have to read a book but I think it is very good. There are extra credit opportunities but you have to work for your grade. As long as you try and are particular, you'll get an A. I got over 100.
Scott is a professor who likes things done correctly the first time, so be prepared to listen to rules of assignments, or work may result in a zero for minor to major things. Assignments are easy going, but grading is precise and picky. You will have to look for due dates, there are no reminders or important emails. Easy class, not easy grading.
Pretty easy teacher
Do not take this professor.
She grades pretty hard but she is very enthusiastic in what she does.
This class is what you make it. There are 3 essays and you get well over a month to do each essay. The topics were broad enough so you could at least pick something you enjoy and would like to write about, such as food, anything about an experience with food. Do your writers notebook twice a week and get at least a B on your essays, youre fine.
Shes really good, just as long as you do the work! we had three VERY vague papers, really allows you to run in whatever direction you want, as long as you try
I took children's lit over the summer. The course load is not unreasonable and you can work ahead. You do have to put effort into your assignments but she's very clear with the rubric, so you'll get your A if you try.
Professor Scott is the worst. She is a very tough grader and has a major attitude. Would not recommend her as a teacher.
Take someone else. Shes rude, claims she loves to help but makes excuses when you ask for it. She refuses to even clarify a due date. Professors are here to help us succeed, maybe she should keep that in mind next time. Did not enjoy my easy summer class.
Prof. Scott does a point based grading system, which is always great. As long as you turn something in, you'll get points, but she can be a VERY tough grader. I felt like she was very rude when commenting feedback on assignments, and she wont tell you exactly what you did wrong. The class itself is fine, but her attitude was not encouraging.
Professor Scott is one of my favorite professors! She can be hard, but ask her questions and she will help clear up anything you may be confused about. Professor Scott wrote my letter of recommendation for the Honors Institute and I got in! I highly recommend taking her!
The absolute most off-putting part about this professor is she has a really bad attitude. She is so rude and arrogant. I first thought maybe she was being sarcastic g, but she is a total B. I didn't get an A and that was my fault. It wasn't hard to get an A. But don't expect real help or "teaching". This lady is the nastiest professor I ever had.
Yes, lots of outside work but its easy and fun. I really enjoyed the class, and took her for ENC 1102. Both times I managed an A. She doesnt spare your feelings though. Dont try and pull anything on her. Its due when its due.
Professor Scott was honestly a great professor. If you turned in assignments before the due date or before she graded them she leaves tips on what to fix before there are grades. She answers emails back quick. There is work due every Sunday but as long as you do it right you will pass the class.
Maybe if you take this class in person it may be easier but for me this was the hardest class Ive ever taken online. Doesnt give good feedback. Just tells you to look at the rubric. I did enjoy the book though!
Professor Scott is one of my favorite professors, yes she does give out homework, but you just need to do the homework and do it good and you will pass. She is not a hard professor you just need to do the work.
I do not recommend this teacher at all. She is very rude, a tough grader, and really gives out too much work than the average teacher. Teachers are supposed to be help students flourish in their courses, but she just seems like she does not care. I have never had to deal with such a mean teacher, but unfortunately this year I have to.
She is extremely rude with the fact that she is a teacher. I understand being strict, but how can you base grades off a rubric when you are always changing them. She is not even the slightest bit understanding or compassionate.
Ive never had a teacher like this in my life she made everything more difficult then it had to be. She is a very thought grader so she will knock points for the smallest things, incredibly inconsiderate. And try your best to not turn in late work!
Incredibly meticulous and harsh. Even the simplest of grammatical errors will knock significant points off. Syllabus is like the bible, and questions were created to trick you. Have fun!
This professor is very tough. You have to read a book in this course, which is very unexpected because class is supposed to be easy. The book was good though. Her assignments are spread out so each assignment is worth a lot. She is a good choice if you are willing to work hard.
I took this professor for 1101 and 1102. She is an extremely tough grader but I will say that I could write an essay about anything after her class. She very thorough because she expects things to be done correctly and I can't thank her enough for her "tough love" because it made me be more organized and mindful about my grammar. 10/10.
If you like professor who are willing to work with you and be flexible, this class is not for you. She is very strict when it comes to work and it NOT being made up in her own words I dont care if your mom is in the hospital if you know life isnt going to through curve ball or you never get sick go for it.
Unclear assignment instructions. If you ask her to tell u what is specifically wrong with a portion of your paper she will give you vague answers as to how to fix it and makes you play a guessing game with her about what the paper should look like. Very rude and sarcastic in her responses to questions about rubrics for assignments. Do not recommend
THE WORST !!! Professor Scott is rude and she doesn't explain assignments.
She is VERY RUDE. When you ask her for help she won't give it. I asked her to check if I did an assignment correctly and she told me no. I would have to turn it in for her feedback. I took her online and my two friends took her in class and shes much worst. Also, she talks a lot just to hear herself to tbh. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
Horrible teacher. She expects you to know everything. When you ask questions she gets smart and doesnt give you any feed back. She tries to act like shes helping you but she isnt. If you forget ONE in text citation she will literally give you a zero on the WHOLE assignment. I wouldnt recommend taking her. Her grading system is good.
A class I could count on earning a good grade. She provides lots of opportunity for extra credit to the point if you do it all you might not have to write the final essay or take the final. Class is not mandatory, but an assignment is due every day, so if you miss class you get a zero.
the worst professor ever! I love English and all throughout high school have wrote decent papers BUT this professor would always give my papers 0's and when I would ask why or how I can improve she would respond with "it just was not right". Be prepared to read a boring book and write essays on why MLA8 format is better than MLA.
Awful teacher, EXTREMELY nitpicky on everything on every detail within essays. Barely got a B in the class, but she was just very rude when responding to messages for feedback and help for assignments. She will let you correct things but just prepare for irritable responses.
overall a decent class if you do your homework.
She was very rude and intolerant. Despite all my paper works were written without any significant mistakes, she lowered my grades because of small details. I will never take a class with her again!
I would not recommend to take a class with this professor. I took Educational Psychology with her, and almost all my mistakes were based on grammar only. Despite I has shown almost perfect knowledge for psychology she graded me really unfair. She also leaves comments in very aggressive form.
She's honestly a terrible professor. 500+ word discussion posts with 250+ word replies to your peers EVERY WEEK. On top of that, SHE GRADES SUPER HARSHLY and has a terrible attitude. Don't waste your time with her, she'll make ENC 1102 the hardest English class you've ever taken. Even if she's the only option, just wait till next semester.
extremely tough grader and super rude. would not recommend.
Shes very passionate about literature but she was very nit picky and harsh with her grading criteria. When I asked her to further elaborate on my mistakes and how I can fix them, said look at the rubric which provided very few details and very few critiques. Also made us read 2 full novels with only a week to read and complete long assignments.
Great professor! Very picky about MLA but it helps in the long run. If you get to know her, the class won't seem as bad as others portray it to be. Can be difficult with grading but once you get used to her and her criteria, you can definitely pass with an A. Do not refer to her as Mrs!
Professor Scott, is a sweet heart. She takes her lectures seriously. Though she is a tough greater. But don't look that as a downfall. It will help strengthen your written skill and be cautious of your work. She give a lot of extra credit. Take advantage of it. It will boost your grade up a lot if you put in the work. Lots of discussion.
A lot of essays and a ton of extra credit were offered throughout the course.
Very good professor, she is always available to help you. even though she is a little of a tough grader, her lectures are very good to help you throughout her class. Lots of extra credit opportunities and she always improves on feedback!
Professor Scott is not afraid to make you feel bad for your mistakes. She isn't an inherently bad teacher, but can be very mean. ENC 1101 was the first college class I took, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
The beginner-level English composition class lecture was confusing and disorganized. This professor tends to make it feel like rocket science and takes off points for irrelevant details. It's best to wait for next semester if her class is your only option.
Not very understanding
Worst professor I ever took at HCC.
Ms. Scott was a pretty good teacher, she talks a lot about her person life and may get off course but nothing too difficult, her class was well organized and easy if you do all your work, no quizzes or tests.
Her class is easy as long as you pay attention for the most part. Her lectures gives you a foundation of what to do on your homework
She's a really good professor. She made it easy to pass. She offers a lot of extra credit and is always ready to help. I recommend her
Really good professor. She has amazing lectures, pay attention, she explains things easy. I recommend taking her. She gives good feedback.
Her workload isnt the problem, but the way that she grades the assignments is so bad and weird, even the smallest mistake can cost up to 40 points, and her feedback feels like chatgpt wrote it
This was one of my first classes in college. She's not afraid to give mean feedback and takes off points for the slightest mistakes. I do not recommend this professor at all.
This class is pretty hard, with the grading being really rigid to the rubric.
While Entering The class, She will teach about a subject then Proceed to go away from said subject and wont tell the class where the Information was, I was gone for a day and she didn't send any announcements on how to follow the assignment, Would Not recommend.
Very straight forward with grading and very easy class.
