Taught a class about a very interesting topic and somehow made it dull and unengaging. Had a tendency to go into non sequiturs, didn't tolerate opinions different than her own, and started discussions just to make her own point. All of the material on the exam was from the reading, so attending class was pointless. Not recommended.
Although she tended to ramble off topic, this class was fairly easy. Her tests come entirely from the text, but attendance is still 10% of your grade. The tests themselves are easy since she gives you her lesson objectives, which are the short essay questions. As long as you study this class is an easy A. You just need to make an effort.
Very excellent Prof.- this was a political theory course so opinions, whether you areee with them or not, are part of the course- Very clear lectures and guidelines as to the material- Highly suggest this prof.-
Cingranelli is cute and approachable. In terms of teaching, she isn't the best, but her class is straightforward and interesting. Her class inspired me to become a PPL major!
Not a terrible class..tests are straight from the readings. however, attendance is mandatory and lectures are completely off topic/relatively useless. Also - she was very whiney and tended to assume everyone wasn't doing the reading or coming to class which was really annoying.
The lecture is completely worthless; got an A by doing the reading and taking notes on it. Lecture is only interesting if you can manage to get an argument going, otherwise it's just rambling. All the same, PLSC 115 is an extremely interesting class, and is highly recommended!
tests came straight from the readings. the lecture seemed unorganized and was a waste of time, but she requires attendance so you have to go. be prepare to sit through long rants not relating to the course
This class wasn't bad. A lot of reading required though. The thing that really got me through the class was the fact that the material was interesting. The teacher really pissed me off though. She is extremely liberal and just assumes everyone is too. Kinda bothered me. Her view of the world seemed warped to me.
Some difficult reading (20> pages per day. She's a sweetheart. My only complaint is her way of grading attendance. In the end she basically got mad at the class and took off points for what she thought was people signing in for other people. Totally unfair considering there is nothing you can do to prove she is mistaken if you were actually there.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TEACHER. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER. FOR THE LOVE OF G-D, DO NOT REGISTER FOR ONE OF HER CLASSES.
Useless. Useless useless useless. Only good thing about the class is her amazing looks.
She's a terrible lecturer but a really nice person. All test material comes from the textbook so if you don't read, you probably won't get an A, although she lectures a lot from the text too.
SOOOOO easy. I literally go to every class to sign in, and just sit there aimlessly. She has 5 tests, so each only covers a minimal amount of material so its so easy, just read the book the night before. Ive gotten 3 100s and a 90 and the stuff is mad interesting.
I took Cingranelli for both an intro and upper-level course. The intro course was ridiculously easy, no complaints there. The upper-level course, however, was the single most frustrating class I have ever taken at Binghamton. The exam consisted of reciting word for word what Cingranelli had lectured, deviating from which resulted in points off. AVO
I got an A in the class but I worked really hard for it. Very frustrating and a lot of work. It is not enough to simply read the text. You have to memorize it Study in advance and do not try to cram the day before. I took an intro(115) with her and that was not too bad however American Political Thought was one of the toughest classses ive taken.
Her lecture is terrible, which is a shame. She shows no clear vision with where this class is going and involves her talking with essentially 2-3 of the same students. Her TA Steen did a lecture once and showed what an interesting class this COULD be. Tests are easy as cake, some pop quizzes. First test of the year contained major errors too.
Very Nice woman very easy class if you put the work in. Lectures aren't necessary to go to, but very interesting if you do.
Lectures can go just about anywhere, but although a lot of reading was necessary, I did enjoy the overall ambiguity in political ideology maintained throughout. Although her lectures are not exactly necessary for the test, I enjoyed the overall open atmosphere within the class. Do readings and you will be fine. although it is a lot of reading.
Her class is heavily dependent on the reading - at least her tests and her paper is. Her lectures are a bit boring and will make sense if you read but otherwise you don't have to actually follow along. Do the reading though because it is A LOT and will save you from cramming before the tests which are usually verbatim. Paper is super easy!
Very sweet woman who genuinely wants the class to do well. The lectures weren't too bad but occasionally she would give hints toward the test. Study straight from her study guide with friends and you should do fine. The TA grades extremely hard but she grades on a bell curve which really helped the class.
Cingranelli is a phenomenal women and teacher. Highly recommend her as a teacher. Some of her lectures seem dragged out but most of them are highly interesting. The grading is quite fair and I would highly recommend this class and teacher to anyone!
She's honestly the best!!! I would recommend anyone take at least one class with her! She wants students to do well and will work with you. The papers are not hard as long as you read and show up to class. She makes it easy and enjoyable to do well!
Take PLSC 115. Showing up isn't necessary, lectures are slow and boring, she isn't super clear on what you need to do/know. That being said, if you actually read the textbook the night before, study a little, you will get an A. If you care/try AT ALL you should be able to get an A.
She is fantastic, smart, funny and very kind. Overall I enjoyed her class but don't take it as easy A. You have to work for your grade.
Professor Cingranelli is pretty laid back and relates well with her students. If you missed some readings or even an exam, with the appropriate excuse, you have her sympathy and understanding. As life is unexpected she is a good professor to have and an easy A to get. She breaks things down for you and I totally recommend!
Professor Cingranelli is one of the most down to earth professors I've had at Binghamton. It's clear to see that she really cares about her students. She's not a "gotcha" type of grader/professor; she gives the benefit of the doubt and grades very fairly. She's also very open to class discussion and to opinions that differ from her own.
She initially had no idea how she was going to grade the class, but she was super chill. Based her grade on three papers and a weekly journal that you can leave till the end of the semester to start
Professor Cingranelli is the best. She was always available and always willing to look at your exams over. The exams were based on whatever she said in lectures rather than what was in the textbook. The class had 3 exams and a final that were all open note, out of class and accessible for 24 hours. The exam questions were always discussed in class.
Professor Cingranelli is a wonderful professor. She cares about her subject so much and it is quite simple to do well in her class. If she knows your face, she'll be more likely to work with you on grades. You don't have to go to class or buy the TB but doing the reading & showing up helps with the learning experience.
Terrible teacher. Arbitrary prompts in assignments that are mostly nonsense. Notes she posts are often incoherent or copy+pasted from a random website. More than 90% of lectures are unrelated tangents, repetitive statements, and irrelevant anecdotes. Easy A though, and the lectures are so absurd they're entertaining at times.
Professor Cingranelli is probably one of the best professors I've had so far in the Political Science department at BU. She's clearly knowledgeable about the topics discussed in class and she's always accessible during office hours. Furthermore, she cares about her students and puts them first. I will be taking another class with her next semester!
Prof Cingranelli is the best! She makes complicated theorists understandable with analogies and anecdotes. I was genuinely excited and enjoyed waking up for her 8:30 class. Definitely go to her office hours. Prof Cingranelli is one of the most caring people I have met. Straightforward assignments that are based on the lecture.
cares about you and wants you to do well.
Professor Cingranelli is one of the best professors I've ever had. She really cares about how her students feel and is extremely approachable. She explains everything really well so if you have trouble will any of the material, it will become clear. She is funny and is very down to earth. Loved her and her class!!
Professor Cingranellis class was my absolute favorite this semester. She cares a lot about her students and wants everyone to do well. Ive never had a teacher that was so down to earth and hilarious (especially at 8 am). i was always happy to be inside her classroom and she kept the class engaged. Her teaching style peaked my interest in polysci!
Professor Cingranelli was one of the best Poli Sci professors I've had. She was very clear and straight forward during lectures, and was always available to ask questions. She gave great feedback on papers and was very supportive outside the classroom. I learned a lot in her class, and I recommend this to anyone in poli sci.
Professor Cingranelli is one of the best professors I've had. She's funny and very knowledgable about her field and she's great at explaining the pretty complex theorists we learned about in class. All the tests are online and aren't that hard if you just take notes and listen.
Professor Cingranelli is an awesome professor. She was recommend to my by one of my friends and it was a good decision to take her class. She understanding and I enjoyed going to her lectures. Take her class if you can she is super cool.
Initially wasnt going to post on here but some of these reviews are very inaccurate and obviously come from people who dont care about the class. She is one of the sweetest, most intelligent professors Ive had in the department. Her lectures were funny and informational, and graded on how you interpret the information. Cant wait for PLSC 373!
Cingranelli is one of the best in the game learned, understanding, funny. IDK what that (& other) 1-star review was talking about assignment prompts are predictable; lectures engaging & comprehensive; & class notes cover important points. And she is unequaled in explaining the dense texts of dead white men in plain, simple English.
Prof Cingranelli is a very caring and brilliant professor. Her lectures, though interesting, can be heavy at times - take this with a grain of salt the class I took was at 8am. She makes things funny with anecdotes and stories that serve a purpose and is always looking for ways to ensure that her students succeed and get good grades-extra credit!!
Extremely biased. As a teacher she should work on presenting both sides instead of bashing the Republican Party every class and trying to invalidate students political opinions. She goes on political rants all the time and insults those that disagree with her. Thus she encourages no real political discussion since shes so hostile to the right
She adapted her class to COVID and made it easy on all of us, dropped two lowest assignments of the 7 we did and the work wasnt meant to kill us. The lectures were filled with discussion and mixes the federalist papers with todays policy and it makes the topics easier to digest. One of my favorite professors, so caring and thoughtful and her dog!
Professor Cingranelli is the most dedicated Professor I have had in my lifetime. She genuinely enjoys her job, and it shows. Professor made coming to class an exciting experience. Made great effort to get to know each and every one of her students , despite the circumstances of the pandemic. Feedback reflects her care for students.
Clearly, the previous negative review was fake news. It Also, it violated the Dos and Donts of rating on this site. Professor Cingranelli has never once insulted her students . She does not bash the Republican Party on the daily; she tells the truth.
Lecture-heavy, involving 7 short essays, but the worst 2 were dropped. Attendance was mandatory, but was later changed to be extra credit. Reading materials were free and easily accessible online. Cingranelli herself is a wonderful, engaging lecturer who tied current events to course content. Funny, caring, and highly receptive to student feedback.
Professor Cingranelli is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. She cares about every student in her class and goes out of her way to accommodate. Her lectures are as educational as they are entertaining, including the many tangents she goes on on a daily basis. I can't recommend her enough.
Nice person but a bad/irresponsible teacher. Lectures useless Notes vague. Read the textbook Moved up an extra cred deadline with NO warning, so I wrote a paper for nothing. I emailed her but NO REPLY (like usual) Even the TA couldnt reach her when I asked. Extremely irresponsible on her part. (took this pre COVID)
Cingranelli is one of the nicest people ever. Great professor too I feel like I learned a lot in her class. Not too demanding, interesting material, kind professor. Can't go wrong with Cingranelli.
Took another class with her and she lived up to her reputation. Professor Cingranelli is one of the best professors in Bing. Her lectures are fun, the assignments are relatively easy, as long as you read the materials, and she's very understanding when it comes to deadlines, especially during these times. Would definitely recommend.
Professor Cingraneli is a nice person. Her lectures can drag on put are somewhat interesting. The Class is graded on 5 papers, the papers are only about 1500 words long, and she's an easy grader, I would definitely take another class with her again
PLSC115: Decent class. Attendance wasn't part of our grade so it was optional by default. Posted lecture notes to Blackboard. Kinda rambles during lectures. Gave five 23 page assignments. She required the writing to be single-spaced though, so beware. There's a textbook; not totally necessary bc she posts notes where she discusses the philosophers
The class was easy. She is very nice but sometimes she rambles making time tick by slow. 5 easy 1500 word essays, and you can send them to her early and shell give feedback before the due date. Im taking her 300 level class next semester because I really did enjoy this class.
This is my second time having professor Cingraneli, she is very nice and truly cares about her students. She is very opinionated but keeps that out of her grading. She changed the format of the class so we are only doing 10, 2 page papers. If she keeps that going forward, easy class, if not it would be more difficult
Her lectures can be unorganized and she goes off on unrelated tangents and can be hard to get ahold of outside of class. HOWEVER, it doesn't matter because she genuinely cares about her students and is so caring and genuine and wants everybody to do well. Do the readings and homework and you'll get an A. Really easy grader and 100% recommend.
Awesome and so understanding. I have taken classes with her 2 times in a row and I'm bummed I don't have her next semester. She really made me love my major and get me into the coursework. It can be dry but she tries her best to make it fun. Really nice lady with good intentions and is flexible with you.
Professor Cingranelli has been one of the best professors I have had at BU. She is always looking out for her students and is extremely considerate when it comes to deadlines, etc. She can be hard to reach sometimes but she hosts office hours regularly. I have taken three classes with her and I wish I could take more.
Professor Cingranelli is a must take! Great lectures and her classes are the easiest!
Prof Cingranelli cares deeply about her students & is considerate & fair. While attendance for lectures is optional, they're interesting & analytical. While opinionated, she keeps that out of grading. She cares more about overall understanding than memorization, thus the grade is entirely papers (Fair grader). Took 2 classes with her (115 & 387E).
I've taken 3 classes with her and would take more if I weren't graduating this semester. Cingranelli is one of the best professors in Bing. Her lectures are instructive and funny. Her understanding of American political thought and its history is excellent. Assignments were fairly easy.
Prof. Cingranelli was a good professor with engaging, informative lectures. I preferred a paper-oriented styled class as it allows for critical thinking and research over a longer period than memorization of facts and then forgetting it all after an exam. I hope to have another class with her in the future!
One of Bings best and easiest Professors!
115 is the perfect political science class to take as an intro to the major Cingranelli is an amazing and nice prof and an easy grader. there are 6 short assignments based on free (long) books and she usually extends the due dates (getting behind in class can get stressful be prepared for the syllabus to change)
Cingranelli is a funny professor, her grading was easy and fair, if you had a general idea of what the texts were about and could organize them in an essay, you'd get an A. I never went to lecture and it seems like it wasn't entirely necessary, but her office hours are helpful and she's genuinely a fun person. 6 shorter essays and that's all.
One of bings best! She is a must take, Im in my 3rd class with her and Ive had no complaints about any one of them. If you dont take Cingranelli your truly missing out.
I would've gone to her class more if it wasn't at 8:30. She is one of the most caring professors I've had at Bing and she will never hesitate to answer questions or even just talk. There were only 5 papers based on 5 different books for the whole semester. If you go to lecture and incorporate what she talked about she will notice.
Cingranelli is amazing! There is a lot of dense reading but she explains it all very clearly in lecture. She is also super accessible outside of class and usually emailed me back within two hours, and she met with me before every essay to go over the material. She is definitely more open to helping students who attend class though so try to go.
Prof Cingranelli actually wants you to learn about what she's teaching and is always willing to hear you out. She didn't start taking attendance until less people starting coming to lecture (8am) but she was really understanding when you had to miss it. Overall, she's like a nicer philosophy prof than your usual poli sci prof. Love her. Slay.
It greatly disappoints me to make this rating, this is my 3rd time taking Cingranelli and I have thoroughly enjoyed the two classes that I took before. But this class is different. She has been going on many political rants and condescending about questions and grading. Very disappointed.
Her class is an easy A and if you are interested in the founding fathers, the federalist papers and early constitutional studies her class is a MUST TAKE!!!
She is so sweet. If you're sad or unhappy just go and hug her. Her grading scale based on 4 papers and every class short summaries. Just listen her lectures and read the papers topic on the internet then you will be fine. That's all!!
Second class with her and she was just as great. The material (Federalist/Antifederalist papers) is interesting if your into American history and/or constitutional law/theory. Graded on writings/papers. Answers come directly from the text, lecture, and opinion. Go to class! She remembers names & faces and she's super nice/helpful. Great rec choice!
Dearly missing her political rants :-[ RIP
Prof Cingranelli is smart, funny, and very knowledgable. Gives great descriptions of the content and is there to help with anything.
I really enjoyed her. Lectures were interesting but not mandatory. She is changing her curriculum for next semester so I don't know how she'll organize it in the future. This semester was graded on 3 papers that were pretty short and easy if you just read the textbook. Overall I would take another one of her classes just due to her personality.
Prof Cingranelli was awesome and understanding with grading. She always offered to go over papers before submission and was always willing to help. She has our best interests in mind. With everything going on with AI she is changing the way the class if formatted so expect it to be test based next semester instead of paper based. I recommend her.
She is quite literally one of the best professors. She is beyond caring and always ready to help out when needed. She makes things clear in her lectures and provides examples from real life that make concepts easy to understand.
The nicest woman. Very knowledgeable. Class was entirely graded on three sets of essays based on each individual theorist we read about. Reading heavy. First half of semester was great, then stopped talking about PLSC and ranted about AI for days on end, said she's switching to test based class after spring 23. Easy but lots of reading and writing
One of the best professors I've had at Bing. Funny, interesting lectures, not too much reading, we knew exactly what was gonna be on the exams. She obviously wanted everyone to get a good grade and I think it would be almost impossible to fail, even if you tried. Show up to lecture, take some notes, study a bit for the exams, and you'll be fine.
Really great professor and her lectures are pretty interesting too. The class is mainly on Supreme Court cases and the structure of the court. She gives study guides for each test which covered key terms, T/F questions, and important court cases. Very straightforward and easy to get an A if you put in a little bit of effort.
Cingranelli is an entertaining and intelligent lecturer, and the subject matter was always interesting and relevant. She always communicates clearly what she expects from us on assignments, and she obviously cares that we do well in her class. The workload was light despite the complex subject. I hope I get to take another class with her again.
She is the kindest and sweetest woman ever. She is changing her grading systems to exams only after concerns about AI, but her exams are super easy. She adapts to the student's needs and is very accessible.
I love her so much, she clearly wants her students to succeed them and helps them in any way she can. Her tests are very easy, her study guides are so helpful and her lectures were intelligent and inspiring (and hilarious). So excited to have an amazing teacher again in plsc 373!!
Cingrelli is an ANGEL. I love her sm I took her for the lower level and then plsc upper level. Her class is easy to enjoy even if u play 2048 the whole time and just listen. Her papers are easy to understand and write. Enjoyed both classes w her heavily and shes the sweetest woman alive. Enjoy ur time w her, fun and easy A. Bless cingrelli.
just go to every lecture and youll be fine. tests are a lot of the grade but theyre pretty easy and shes lenient
So sweet and kind. Class is easy if you just review a little before tests with the notes she posts. 3 tests which are the only grades, but she decided to let us drop 1 this semester, and the tests are very short/easy. Attendance is taken, but she said she's considering using attendance for extra credit so not sure what she'll do in the future.
It's a really easy class, and professor, if you're looking for easy gen ed to take or you're a poly sci major, take this class; the only thing rough about it was it was a mandatory attendance 8 am class. Tests are super easy I only needed to study for about 3 hours to get 90+ after not paying attention at all during lectures.
Super interesting class- attendance is a third of your grade but if you can j wake up its so easy. Tests were MC/true false, study a quizlet for a few days before and ur fine. She is so nice and very political but she cares about students being politically literate. She did scare me w the rants but in a good way. Easy A if you come to class.
Professor Cingranelli is extremely caring and truly wants you to do well. The only “downside” was the 8 am start, which is great if you're an early riser, but I struggled to wake up sometimes lol. It really is an easy class though, this semester's grade was based on just 3 tests (lowest dropped) and attendance.
She is so nice and caring. Only graded on three tests but she gives you everything you need to pass. Lectures were interesting and I love how she put her views on it as well.
This is my third class with Prof. Cingranelli. Her teaching style is like a conversation. She doesn't focus a crazy amount on required readings or heavy papers. Her goal is to get you interested in whatever topic she teaches. Wonderful professor and person. She's so open-minded and willing to hear you out on whatever.
