Fairly easy class. Not much work (several essays and some reading). Westrope has a doctorate, learned some new grammar. Helped my writing. We did a lot of peer editing by the entire/part of the class. Reserved but kind and willing to help.

The first time I've had an A in English in college. Be prepared to write a short little essay on your first day. Our final was about that essay. He also says "Mm'kay?" all the time. Try counting to see how many times he says it in one day

Fun class! Really helps you interpret the literature you are reading. Class was always interesting. There is a good load of reading and writing responses but they are manageable and not too difficult. Always says hi. Suggested teacher for any couse.

Overall he is a nice man. We did many essays and the whole course was based on the Vietnam war. We watched some disturbing videos, but I did come out of that class with some good Memories! Try not to talk during lecture, he will call you up to his desk ;)

I like that he shows genuine interest in the class and seeks to help you in any way he can. He gives great feedback on essays and is very thorough in all discussions and a fair grader (not based on position but on how well you defend your thesis). I would recommend him for any type of english class.

i took this guy for 101, 103, and 102. that should tell you something. he knows his stuff. very intellectual, very helpful. by far the best teacher i've ever had. i switched my major from engineering to english thanks to his giudence. take his class and you'll see for yourself. this guy is awsome.

Theron is an awesome teacher. He will push you to the fullest extreme though. However, if you ask him for help, your grade will improve drastically. He's a cool guy and will remember you for life after one class period. MUST TAKE!

i LOVE dr westrope. He is wonderfuly. He is so smart, so helpfull, so dreamy! haha. seriously, he knows his business and expects a lot from the students. But ask for help before an essay is due, have him proof read your paper, and make the corrections he suggested, and you will get a good grade. I HIGHLY suggest taking him.

I just finished winter semester and i could truly say that this was proably one of my easiest classes..basically go in and meet talk about he readings and do one a few responses which is not that hard i got and A and didnt try very hard. hes very chill.

Tough grader, but be sure to ask lots of questions and follow his suggestions and you should do fine. He offers a lot of help..I learned a lot in this class.

Mr Westrope is an amazing instructor! He truly has your best interest at heart and will help whenever possible. He IS NOT easy however if you are in this to learn then what do you have to loose? I enjoyed his class and earned an 'A'.

I met with Professor Westrope this morning. He seems like the type of professor that wants his students to succeed. Although, It's still early in the semester I still look forward to receiving a lot of valuable information from Dr. Westrope.

This is the best english professor at MJC. Very organized and clear. There is no other work besides reading the material (at least most of it) and he makes it clear that he wants YOUR opinion in your essays. He is a very easy grader. Most of the essays are in class, but they are not difficult. Highly recommend!!!!!

Dr Westrope kieeps his classes very interesting...so he doesnt get bored himself he changes the format and theme for each semester. I have taken two of his classes and learned so much from both!

I loved Dr. Westrope, he was very helpful and clear about what he wants in your writing and he will grade each person fairly and you will get what you deserve for how well you follow directions. He has taught me more about writing then I have learned in highschool or my experience here at MJC. You will learn very valuble writing skills.

Mr. Westrope is a very good English teacher... way better than the teach I had for 101. He is very fair in his grading and helpful. Spend time talking with him and he will clarify and questions.

If you follow the requirements, you can get an A. Ask him to read your papers before you turn them in if you have questions. he responds instantly to email. He is very nice and really cares about the students. Very bright also

Dr. Westrope is a cool guy and can be very accommodating, within reason of course. He really enjoys what he does, and he pushes his students to show their creative sides. He is a very lenient grader, and as long as you back up everything you write, you should get A papers. His assignments can be pretty demanding, so don't wait 'til the last minute.

He wants your best; he's the kind of teacher you can rely on to help you achieve it.

If you are interested in philosophy, literature, and discussion, this will be a breeze. Very easy to do well if you apply yourself. Dr. W. appreciates effort!

I was thrilled with this class and Dr. W. I would gladly take many more classes from him. He wants discussion & your ideas so come to class rdy to talk. Fair, interested, personable. The reading required was not overwhelming & the assignments reasonable (perhaps he should have asked for even more. And, yes, you have to write in proper English.

Extremely helpful, takes time out to help you as long as you want it. Also uses books that arent crazy expensive. Highly recomend him. You'll learn alot

Dr. Westrope is by far the greatest professor I have ever had. It is because of his class on critical thinking that I have been able to succeed in all my English classes since. I would highly recommend him for any class he teaches. Not only is he highly knowledgable, but he puts things on a level where a non-phd can understand.

He is a really helpful instructor. But, the subjects were very complex and hard to understand. He does a good job helping with your grammar but if you mess up he will dock you. There is no grey with him, good or bad papers only. Do not take in summer, extreme work load and over half the class will drop!

Mr. Westrope is literally the best teacher I've ever had. I would recommend him to anyone. He takes time to thoroughly explain his grading guidelines and exactly what he expects. He went over parts of each of our first essays in class and met with us to go over the 2nd one before we turned it in. The esssay topics were interesting as well.

It's a challenging class but not as impossible as some people make it out to be. There's a lot of writing, but Theron is always willing to answer questions. Be ready to work for your grade.

Westrope is a nice guy. Every class was open to take any discussion in any direction. Rarely I asked him for help, but when I did, he pushed me to figure things out for myself. As long as you attend, make an effort, and be open in your papers, you will get a good grade.

Took him during the Summer which meant a five page essay every week for five weeks! Thoroughly kicked my butt.However, he is a fantastic teacher. Write the essays and you'll do fine. I ended up with a C because I completely dropped the ball on my last paper.

Best English teacher I've ever had. He is a great writing coach. If you are interested in improving your writing at any level, take him. Very clear expectations and feedback; listen, do the work, and you will pass. Not an easy A but quite doable. His grading is very clear and fair.

I took an 8 week course, which just ended this week. Honestly, it was tough. I read everything and did my homework on time. I also talked to him about my first paper which I got a D on... He will tell you exactly what you are doing wrong and even set aside time to help you. This class is a must take if you want to be a great writer.

I've taken Dr. Westrope three times, for 103 (Critical Thinking), 161 (Film Appreciation) and 173 (Latin American Literature). I received an A in all three classes. Even took the 103 class during the summer. He is a REAL instructor with expectations for his students to retain SOME knowledge, but is sensible and a strong writing guide. RECOMMEND.

I started this class a little scared of the subject: Argumentation! While I still feel that I am not that competent of an arguer, I learned a lot of really useful techniques. This class was really interesting and the books were very interesting. This is a must take!

Great professor, class is fun if you enjoy writing even a little. He is very clear on instructions so do your best to follow them exactly, he is very helpful. On each paper choose an interesting topic for the subject he gives and itll be easier. Just remember to FOLLOW the guidelines. And he loves Louisiana.

I also took him for English 103. professor has clarity throughout the course-he is very understanding if you have an emergency-as long as you have good communication as with any other person he is understanding. Great teacher over all. Very down to earth. As long as you do your reading, and actually dedicate time to the writing, you will do well.

I loved this class. As long as you take the time to do your best writing, and really enjoy it, you'll do great. He doesn't grade your writing really, he grades your effort and improvement. Take the notes he gives you and apply them. He's very good and knows what hes talking about, funny, laid back, and helpful.

I adore Mr. Westrope. I took him for his 5 week summer class, and I learned so much about writing, grammar, life etc. in that short period of time. He teaches at a steady pace and he's always very clear and never condescending when students ask questions. So encouraging and helpful! Definitely recommend! :D

I took Dr. Westrope for English 101 and 103, great teacher, and a good class. Would suggest taking him.

Fun Class. We did a lot of reading, but he is very laid back. Cool guy and is funny at times.He gives the option to either write an essay responce to the plays or memorize and act them out. I only wrote 2 essays the entire semester. One for the Mid Term and one for the Final. We re-enacted an Anton Chekov Play and the whole class participated.

I took 103 during the summer semester. I'm by no means an excellent writer, but I managed to get an A in his class in the mere 5 weeks I was in it. These belly-achers make me laugh. I took the class with two of my friends and we all managed to get excellent grades by proof reading each other's papers. Just don't text in his class, he hates that

Mr. Westrope is a wonderful teacher. All he wants is for his students to become better writers. He goes out of his way to help those students that wish to succeed. He usually lets you rewrite essays so you can work on your weak areas. He's hilarious. He's always cracking jokes. He's a really great teacher and I definitely recommend taking him.

I enjoyed Mr. Westrope's class. if you have a hard time with grammar or writing in general, it might not be a very good class for you because he basically just taught you how to use MLA format and assigned papers. He was really easy going and pushed out due dates if he was going to miss class or if we needed more time. Very helpful and very funny!

This is the first and only rate my professor that I will ever do. The comments that I read really have to be from people who have no interest in literature. I loved the books that he chose, and I will probably hang on to them for the rest of my life. He inspired me to do more for myself. I really took away a whole new perspective from him.

Dr. Westrope not only teaches, but learns about and with the class. This allows the students to understand his dynamic in the classroom and appreciate his down-to-earth teaching methods that involve each individual's perspective. Amazing teacher. i didn't want to take this class at all but stuck it out because he was so great. HHe explained everything crystal clear. Gave fun writing assignments and provided good feedback on every paper. He's always available to help and is very honest with the class.

The class was very focused on the actual writing you do in the course, which is how it should be in an English 101 class. Instead of lengthy and complicated lectures and heaps of busy work, he has a small but important list of assignments to complete. Each class he tutors and coaches each student on the essays they are currently working on.

Great teacher! Helpful and clear. I don't really enjoy English much but I love reading so this was my favorite English class. You do have to be in class and participate but it's not horrible.

Professor Westrope was absolutely incredible. It was a summer class, so no textbook was required. I learned more about critical thinking and argumentation than I expected to learn in such a short amount of time. Lots of papers, but it is an English class. He is amazingly helpful and readily available for clarification, help, or feedback.

I am currently enrolled in Dr. Westrope's late start Engl103 class. We meet every Tuesday and I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I'm learning. Dr. Westrope is clear about expectations, keeps the class interesting and really shows kindness and sensitivity to his students. If you really want to learn to write, his class is a must!

The best Prof. I have ever had in over 30 classes. He is funny as hell and he will teach you a lot. He will make you become a great writer in the process. Pay attention to the details, dont write your essay the day before and you will earn an "A."

Westrope creates a laid back environment. He doesn't require any textbooks. There are only four essays, two of which are the midterm and final, and the last assignment being three letters. Don't write your essays at the last minute and follow the prompt, and you should be fine.

Manageable online summer class. Responds quickly to emails. Doesn't require you to buy any materials. 4 essays including the final & let us rewrite the first 2. Each essay's worth 25% of total grade. Provides really detailed written & video instructions & examples. Feedback was very limited.

I took Westrope online. Throughout the Fall semester, the only assignments that we had were the 4 essays that he requires us to write. He will have maybe 10 video lectures on Blackboard for you to watch but if you're looking for an English teacher that actively engages with you, this would not be your class. This class is very independent.

I was worried I was going to fail the class since I got F's on my first two papers. He gives the chance to rewrite and correct papers though! I wish I wouldn't have taken the class online since English isn't my best subject but over all I didn't mind his class!! Just don't wait til the last minute to write your papers!

westrope was a great online choice. if you cant handle online dont take because there are no reminders on when things are do. you do 4 papers and thats it, and he gives you feedback to use on rewrites.

I took this class online and I ended up doing very well. I got a B+ on my first paper and then I got all A's on the rest of my papers. With the rewrite, I was able to fix my paper and get an A on that paper as well, giving me an A for the class. The feedback was great and it really helped me improve my writing tremendously. Considering this was an online class, it was very difficult in the beginning to switch from 101 style to 103. If I continued to try on my own, I would not have passed. Utilize him and meet him outside of class and he will make what he wants very clear for you. I took the 5 week summer course, you write an essay a week. He allows two rewrites/no RDs

He is very approachable and will help if you ask for it. You get what you put in to the class. If you try hard and show effort even if you are struggling he will help. There are 4 very long essays due for this class and that is how your grade is determined. He does allow you to rewrite the essay if you are not happy with the grade.

I was hesitant to take Westrope because of other reviews but honestly he is a solid professor. All his prompts were interesting and honestly, the people who complain about him probably didnt understand that ENGL103 is Argumentative writing- VERY different from ENGL101. He is awesome and will help in any way he can.

I am SO glad I chose him for 103 coming straight from 100. The ONLY work during the semester were 3 essays + 1 final! NO homework assignments, NO required textbook. Took English 103 online and it was the best thing ever. All we had to do is write three essays and then an essay for the final. The best part is there is no textbook, he provides the reading that is needed for the essays. He allows one rewrite for any essays. Although he does not accept late work, he gives a month to work on the essay.

Prof Westrope is one of my favorite professors. I came into 103 very intimidated by writing essays but his lectures broke everything down and as long as you follow the guidelines you will do great. He answered several of my questions right away and also graded my essays within 24 hours (very fast). Very manageable workload, not a harsh grader.

I have taken 2 diff eng classes with him over 12 yrs. Love his classes. Not easy but assignments are interesting and fun. Fast grader, and gives great feedback. Highly recommend.

Theron is a real gem. He is passionate about the course and people in general. Show up, have a genuine interest, try your best, and you will pass. Accommodating and understanding of concerns. We read four pieces of literature and wrote/discussed them, but the workload is not demanding. You will speak before peers and discuss lot. Have fun! :)

Theron is perhaps the best English professor Ive been fortunate enough to have. Hes passionate about the artistry that is literature, and is well-versed in everything that is English. Gives constructive criticism, and allows you to rewrite essays to receive a higher grade. Theron knows life happens and is understanding, just communicate with him.

When I took him, I found his class to be really interesting. He taught us how to properly write papers, following every detail, and only had us read and write a paper on 2-3 readings, plus a research paper at the end of the semester. He's really cool and funny, and is very engaging with everybody. He also likes share about his life and campus news.

I took the 5 week class. Only 5 essays. Some of his prompts are more clear than others, but there is a ton of info provided each week, read/watch it all, put in some EFFORT & you will pass. He is a fair grader& offers a lot of examples & extra credit. If you get A's on 3 essays you dont have to take the final. Very manageable class. Great teacher.

He was great I struggled with getting out of the 101-102 standards and he truly helped me and allowed for rewrites on papers your didn't do well on.

1st time grading a professor, I took this class in the summer (7 weeks) I thought it was going to be the harder thing ever but it turned out to be super easy. The key to pass is TIME make sure to put enough time in your essays and if you get stuck ask questions. Gives great feedback and allows to rewrite the lowest essay.

Was a great course, deadlines are communicated far in advance. I would not recommend to someone who is not good at writing papers. Although he gives A LOT of feedback, the instructions were often unclear and I got low grades on some of the papers because of that. Professor Westrope is a strict grader! However, he provides in detail what he expects from you. There are five essays to be written. Two before the mid-term, the mid-term essay, and two after the mid-term. Please give time to your essays, if not you will fail this class!

It was one of the easiest classes that I have taken at MJC. You do have to read a lot of books (like 4) and they are pretty dry, but it was a super easy A+. There is like 1 discussion, 1 book, and 1 essay per month or so. Grades crazy easy on the essays. The midterm essay is based on a short story. Gives lots of feedback on essays and discussions.

Westrope is an amazing professor. After reading some reviews, I was concerned to take this class but I was so glad that I did. He makes assignments very in depth and even though we did not have zoom meetings, the assignment instructions are very clear. Points in the class are for 4 essay and they were averagely easy as long as you research

With respect to this, my experience in Mr. Westrope's English 103 class has been both insightful and extremely inspiring. So, for anyone who is eager to succeed and is willing to put in the effort, I highly recommend his class.

Professor Westrope knowledgeable, laid back and straight forward. Communication is great, he's been easy to get ahold of and always more than happy to help and answer any questions. Along as you do the work, and take his feedback this class is an easy A. Workload is a little heavy (but what college class isn't) and you have plenty of time to do it.

Took him for 102 and 103 (both online) because he's a great professor. Gives clear instructions, clear grading criteria, and detailed feedback. Very kind and knowledgeable.

In his accelerated class, I was scared because I suck at writing essays but he makes it easy to understand how he grades essays right away. You just need to argue your point. He lets you resubmit essays if the mistakes are minor and he allows one rewrite. The second essay is the hardest because it requires research, but the others are simple.

Prof Westrope's ENG103 class may seem daunting, but with effort and tools like Unstuckstudy, it's manageable. He's direct but fair - just follow his feedback and you'll do well.

This Professor cares about his students! He responds quickly and gives good feedback. After I did horribly on my first essay, we did a zoom meeting and he told me exactly what I needed to fix. Then, he let me redo it for full points! Don't be afraid to ask him when you don't understand, he is always available to help! 10/10 RECOMMEND!

I will say, his deadlines (at least for ENG102) are pretty tight. I'm a major procrastinator, so this quickly became an issue for me. However, he is very forgiving and gives great, thorough feedback on essays in a very timely manner. I would totally take one of his classes again.

This was the most rewarding class I've taken in a while, mostly because of the challenge, the pace, and the overall expectation for deeper writing skills.
