This professor does not care about teaching. I did not learn anything from him. If you know how to play chess probably an easy class. He tells everyone the same thing and does not grade anything in enough time for you learn from mistakes. He only graded 2 discussions by the last 2 wks of class the rest were graded after class ended. HORRIBLE!!!
I took this course online. The material was fairly simple, you had to read, and learn chess. If I had a question he would usually get back to me. Sometimes he came across rude, but I think that he just assumed we should all know the material, overall I would recommend him.
I took this class online, so I found all of the textbooks online. The workload is light and consists of weekly quizzes and five discussions throughout the semester. You learn a lot about chess and read about Sherlock Holmes. The material is interesting, but the chess quizzes were challenging at times. Also, this professor takes forever to grade.
The class was great, although he is obsessed with the game of chess and it's a big portion of your grade. So if you are great at chess and all of the strategies then this class is good for you!!
Rather strict teacher. Does not help much, just gives quizzes and readings every week. They are hard because they are 5 chess questions. This class takes up more time than a phil class is supposed to take. If you do take him, don't take his hybrid class, it's double the work of going to class and everything still being done online.
The class was straight forward and attendance & participation is required. This was a hybrid class and Dr R has some classes to be meetings online! This class was interesting, I enjoyed it and would take this professor again! Not a lot of reading either, minimal. Test online and have a full week to do! I would definitely recommend!
Before I took this class I had no clue how useful critical thinking was. Learning critical thinking through chess only helped make things clearer. Professor was very nice about answering all of my questions and never made me feel bad for asking them. Great learning experience!
Great class, very interesting and very clear. Dr. R helps you with tests and homework, answers emails quickly and also helps you get a good grade. This class was hybrid-definitely recommend it! I wish this instructor teaches more classes, trust me and take him! Won't be sorry! I really enjoyed his teaching method!
Great class, great teacher. Very easy, get to read interesting Sherlock Holmes stories and play chess!! Definitely recommend this class, won't regret it
Great online class. Took 4 week class fast paced but fun. Chess was aprox 50% of class. Quizzes 10 questions, 9 of which were chess related, and 1 was a brain teaser. There were also two major assignments that I found difficult. Didn't get my grade or feedback from the 1st before I had to submit the 2nd. When i got feedback it was not clear. Got A
For an analytical thinking class you opinion doesn't matter. There has been many times on discussion questions how I felt was frowned upon and told the right way to answer. Also do not sign up if you can't stand chess. I have maintained a D grade for simply not being good at chess and I didn't pay to take chess when it's free elsewhere. No good!
Tough class, but he'll definitely train you to think outside of the box.
This class was horrible! You better love chess, Sherlock Holmes, political issues, King Vikram, logic puzzles, forms of deductions, discussion board post that are like essays& bouncing around all of that all semester,I mean really guy come on! Teach us to critically think so we don't focus on when it all ends! Avoid him!
professor T is a grade teacher. I hook a hybrid class so it was half online half and person. You are definitely going to have to read a lot and this class will make you think. overall a good class. He does grade on participation and attendance so make sure that you're there.
Does NOT help; even if he FORGETS to give you information for a quiz, he'll blame you for not using "Google." He loves to lecture, esp. over little things you may have forgotten (when you write three paragraphsquestion, for 6 questions, it happens). He'll blame you for his mistakes rather than help you understand a dif. culture, which is his job.
Took four-week Philosophy 102. Class was a lot of chess and some Sherlock Holmes. Simple and easy class.
The class was pretty simple, as long as you do the assignments and quizzes. The professor didn't seem too interested in getting to know the students. The assignments were long, but were due every 2-3 classes. There was a lot of reading, but you only need to read enough to do the assignments and quizzes.
In the first class, Dr. R explained how analysis of detective stories and chess problems helps to develop critical thinking skills. Those who did not get the message, or did not like it, or did not want to do the work were welcome to GET OUT of the course on day one. It was great to see most of the students get involved seriously with the course.
The person who posted earlier LIED about Dr. Raagu's class. His class use a lot more than chess and Sherlock Holmes stories. He also use critical thinking standards and forms of logical deduction. He makes us to apply these standards and logical deductions to chess, detective stories, and puzzles he used. Yeah, if it's hot in the kitchen, GET OUT!
Thillaisthan Raghunath Is a really great professor. As long as you do your assignments and turn them in on time you honestly wont have an issue receiving the grade you deserve. You are graded by attendance and participation. So you must arrive to class if you want a good grade. His assignments are actually really fun and worth while. Just do them.
Uses chess problems to teach logic. Tests are very easy if you complete them strategically. Think logically, internalize the intellectual standards, read what you need to read, and there is no reason why you shouldnt get a good grade. There is no extra-credit.
Horrible teacher if you don't understand chess! I brought that up to him and he clearly did not care. He said there is plenty of online chess courses i could take to help with this class. IM NOT GOING TO TAKE ANOTHER COURSE ABOUT CHESS. I DID NOT PAY FOR A CHESS CLASS.
THIS PROF SENT E-MAILS A COUPLE OF WEEKS BEFORE THE START OF THE FOUR-WEEKS CLASS INFORMING US THAT BASIC CHESS PROBLEM-SOLVING IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF HIS COURSE ON CRITICAL THINKING, BUT HE ALSO USES SHERLOCK HOLMES, LOGICAL FORMS OF DEDUCTION, VIKRAM TALES WHICH END WITH A QUESTION TO ANSWER, AND ANALYSIS OF VIDEOS ON CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES.
Professor R is challenging but you'll see the material is applicable to your life. He loves chess and excellently ties it into the subject of critical thinking. There are some tests, quizzes, and 4 discussion assignments. Bring books to class and participate; give an honest effort and you will do well.
I took his online class. Two main subjects he uses to teach are chess, Sherlock Holmes, and an Indian folklore he incorporates into Philosophy. His tests are easy, but make sure you read the text. Do not expect to wing it without studying. The chess part, I would say, is the toughest part. Stay focused in the beginning, it is crucial for the sem.
I found ALL of the books required at the library. His main focus for critical thinking was to get you to think ahead by using chess as a tool. I knew almost nothing about chess. At points I found the chess easier to learn than Sherlock Holmes. Learn chess, read Sherlock Holmes and you will pass.
Class was very interesting, a lot of self-taught processes. It was quite funny how he would ask people to participate and semi ridicule them after if it was not his answer. Do not leave class to go to the restroom, prepare your bladder or don't have any bathroom emergencies. A guy got more tissue and... was called out on it in front of the whole..
It's not high school! There is a short break for use of the bathroom. It's also a class on critical thinking. Get used to critical feedback. Grow up and don't take it personally.
Currently taking his 102 class online. I like that he requires his students to learn chess (what better way to teach logic?), but his online class is a MESS. His directions are cluttered and confusing. I wish he could be more concise and organized. Numbered lists and bullet points are you friend, Dr. R. Use them.
Dr. R's instructions are clear and detailed. He provides examples. Although he states instructions on each assignment in bold red and underlines them, some students just don't read them completely. If these plain instructions are not clear, ask him for clarifications and stop whining! It's college and he can't be spoon feeding everything.
Maybe in class he is different but do not take him as a online course. His assignments are confusing and when students ask for help he emails the entire class and tells everyone to not bother him with what he feels are stupid questions. He is not willing to help his students in any sense. We receive 1-3 condescending emails from him a week. SKIP!
Dr. R asked us not to send e-mails on matters already covered in the course contract and announcements. He also asked us to first read the assignment instructions and module pages before contacting him. Fair enough! And it's great that he sends e-mail reminders! The previous poster is engaging in mean-spirited distortions!
I am currently taking this class and wishing I wasn't. There are 10 'portfolios' comprised of 5 parts (due weekly), each part takes considerable time. Also, 8 quizzes and 5 reading review tests. Reading Sherlock Holmes is the only part I've enjoyed. Condescending 'reminder' emails about how to engage with him. I sense others are also frustrated.
My only beef with this professor is that it takes a month to grade a single assignment. We're expected to complete weekly portfolios and it would be nice to have feedback. If my work is incorrect, how can I improve? I can't, because I don't know. I know he has a lot of students, but this is incredibly frustrating.
You can pass if you work hard, but if you are an A student, RUN because he likes to give B's. GOOD LUCK, youre going to need it.
Dude, the prof repeats the same basic instructions on each discussion assignment. It is a discussion assignment. So, read the feedback from other students. This is COLLEGE, not some flea market where you can bargain your way to an A because you were an A student. Silly!
He assigns "Readings Questions and Comments Portfolios". These are online discussion assignments requiring you to ask questions and post comments. It should be obvious that you are supposed to read submissions and feedback from other students to improve your own. Don't expect spoon feeding from this instructor!
I thought Dr. R's e-mails reminding us about the course contract items and importance of reading the instructions, modules, and announcements before contacting him were perfectly in order. Grow up! His tests are multiple choice and open for a whole week. Great!
This Professor was amazing. He gives you perfect instructions, all you ahve to do is read. There is a lot of reading in this class & you need to read to pass. I will probably receive a low B for this class but could have received an A if I would have donated more time. He is not a tough grader but not an easy either. Rules are there plain & simple.
RUN or you'll be sorry
Assignment instructions repeated in bold red on every assignment. Regular announcements and e-mail reminders. Online tests and assignments open for a week. Good feedback if you contact him with specific questions.
He doesn't like it when you email him, but he'll email you 4 times a day with one sentence of irrelevant information. Also, if you do not enjoy chess or Sherlock Holmes, do not take this class. Dr. Raghu thinks his class is your only one, but he does not grade assignments until at least a month later. I would not recommend this course to anyone.
This site offers a wonderful opportunity for all sorts of disgruntled non-students to spew their venom on their instructors. Dr. R asked that we first read his instructions, announcements, and course readings before contacting him and to refrain from abusing the e-mail system with redundant inquiries. This is college. Grow up or get out!
Get a mind and get something worthwhile to complain about! Online and hybrid courses require more e-mail communication than on-ground courses. Dr. R, thanks for your regular e-mails.
Earning an A in Dr. Raghu's class is as simple as following directions, and applying critical thinking principles. There are no deceptions about what to expect and how to pass. The material is also very useful for life in general.
This teacher is brilliant with his modules and as you read each one it truly changes your perspective on many things. The only downside with this class is the amount of reading you have to do. Believe me when I tell you to read them all if you want a good grade. Due to the fact I'm generally a lazy person I wouldn't recommend to anyone who is too.
His writing prompts are easy, but if there are so many parts it's ridiculous. Also, if you aren't already a chess genius, RUN, it is in every writing prompt and every quiz. And when you take his quizzes the chess questions are worth 4 or 5 points while everything else is worth 2. It sucks when you take a test get get 14 out of 17, and only get a D.
He has good discussion assignments and told us on the first day of class and in his syllabus that chess problem-solving was an essential part of the course. Not a big deal in a critical thinking class! Anyone not interested was welcome to "run" on day one, but they stay and create nuisance.
He's very clear on the assignments, there's no extensions and he makes that very clear though he gives plenty of time to complete the assignments. If you do that then you shouldn't have a problem passing this class (I took hybrid). The discussion assignments can be very time consuming but a good majority of the criteria is actually very interesting
I took his hybrid class and let me tell if you aren't chess savy don't take this class. Everyone else knew about chess and felt as if I was singled out and all the readings and gradings he doesn't do till a month or so later and attendance is a must, he acts like we don't have jobs or families to take care of if we don't show up. Hardest class.
Dr. Raghu is a very fare professor as long as you follow his instructions. There is no extra credit at all. There is 8 quizzes & 6 discussion assignments worth 1000 points. The course is a hybrid class, quizzes are done on the internet & you can use open book. The discussion assignments have a lot of reading & writing. A real interesting class.
Phil 124 is very interesting and informative class. While the course content for this class is dry at best, the reading material are entertaining. Take Dr. Rs class. Don't worry. You will be fine. Semester schedule is very organized and reliable - reminders of assignments and quizzes are given. Definitely recommend!
If you wish to get the most out of any philosophy class, then Dr. R is the Professor to take. He covers the material in an excellent way and helps all students to learn beyond the mere written or spoken word. I would recommend Dr. R to any student who wishes to grow as an individual. An excellent instructor always willing to help and explain.
In an online class, it is the student's responsibility to seek clarifications on course readings, quizzes, and assignments. Dr. R replies promptly to e-mail queries and clarifies correct answers on quizzes, etc. He also send us e-mails when announcing quizzes or assignments and asks that we contact him if we need any clarifications.
Dr. R values consistency more than anything else. It is not an easy class, but one that is definitely worth taking. It will open your mind, answer many questions and most likely raise others. It will teach you commitment and follow through. It will give you perspective and it will make you a more mature and wholesome individual.
Took an accelerated 4-week online class with him so of course there was a lot of work and information to process in such a short time. I think he grades fairly but you have to make sure you actually take your time in writing the discussions and responses! I enjoyed the class (except the chess questions). His discussions really make you think.
Although he only has one discussion and one quiz due per week, they were the most ridiculously long discussions I've ever completed. I spent most of my week working on the discussion questions. He wants students learn to play chess and has text questions in the quizzes each week. Also a ton of readings and long videos. Encourages critical thinking
The summer four weeks online course is challenging because of the short time frame and the standard semester load of readings. If you prepare everyday, it becomes less challenging. Most of the videos were very short and the readings just a couple of pages each. Not at all unreasonable!
Beware that this class is very hippy-ish. Lots of rambling and incoherent spiritual stuff. Work isn't hard, but difficult to force yourself to read it all. The Indian stuff is impossible to read. Books are cheap and online (Amazon). As long as you write something and answer everything you're good. Everybody does the discussions last minute.
This course includes a lot of reading, but nothing too onerous. He breaks the monotony with chess exercises (although he doesnt know how to play chess). The last two weeks were mainly review because he ran out of material too early. The logic puzzles and Sherlock Holmes readings/videos were excellent, entertaining, and educational. Recommend!
So I had Dr. R in Fall 2016. This class is very interesting and makes you think. It defintely gave me a different perspective of society. But I wouldn't take it again, way too much work for the discussions. Plus the quizzes seem to affect the grades more. Also takes forever to grade... He means well, but if you arent a philosophy major not worth it
The class is pretty tough. He emails us with different information to know at least 4 times a week. The discussions are long and require a lot of time and thought. It's a philosophy class, so expect to think a lot and deep. The professor is nice, the class is just difficult. If you're looking for an "easy" online course, this is not it.
The hardest philosophy class I've ever taken. Ive taken one at UNLV and two at CSN and I can tell you the amount of work he gives is ridiculous. I have 5 other classes and a full time job and getting the work done he wants from us was nearly impossible. Obviously his goal is to get our brains thinking but it's just too much.
There are eight quizzes which are not timed and open for a week. There are six dicussion assignments open for almost two weeks. The discussion assignments explore issues with a variety of content, but we were advised to work on them on a daily basis to complete them on time.
The course contract gives his course policies. Cretins may think that political issues should not be addressed in a college course on critical thinking, but he is correct to include them as topics for discussions. Radical views are presented on those topics and we are simply asked to identify the reasoning and pose our questions. Big deal!
Quizzes are open for a week, and are relatively easy if you follow the material that's involved. The discussion assignments however are TERRIBLE. Most of them are politically motivated, and they have the potential of making you feel angry given the topics, plus quantity of work required. Challenging class, but doable. Wouldn't recommend though.
Discussions are open for almost 2 weeks but the amount of things to do was not realistic. I wish the professor was more involved instead of youtube video assignments. Although, some of the topics were interesting, it was just too much and it felt repetitive. You can only talk so much about a certain subject. Needs a better lesson plan!
The discussion assignments are open for two weeks and some of them use many audio-visual clips running to to 2 - 4 mins in length. I should not be taking a college course if I cannot spend at least 15 mins a day doing the homework for a course. Dr. R is always available by e-mail to consult with. He also held online office hrs in Canvas.
I do not know what the big deal is on Dr. R's discussion assignments. They are eye-opening and the best cure for IGNORANCE. He gives two weeks or more to do those assignments and if a student did not follow his advice to work on them daily for at least 15 mins, who is to blame? Obviously the student.
Although this class was challenging it was extremely mentally beneficial. The quizzes are easy and the discussion assignments really get your brain working. This isn't an easy A but you will take a lot from the class. It really does help you think critically. If you're not lazy and ready to learn I recommend this class!
In the regular semester he gives a week for each quiz. His quizzes are not timed and it's great! Discussion assignments encourage students to think and discuss the very interesting issues. He gives almost two weeks for each assignment. Plenty of time if you are not lazy! Very good Prof. Highly recommended.
It is college, Dude. Don't know what the fuss is about his discussion assignments. Theya re always interesting and instructive! Some are easy, some have average difficulty, and some are challenging. It should not be an issue in college courses. He gives two weeks for each discussion assignment. You will learn a lot from them.
In my experience this professor provided feedback last minute, thus not allowing enough time to improve ones next assignment grade, based on feedback from previous assignment. Furthermore, he had cancel class chat sessions last minute. Lastly, his grading scale is inflated, 95 or higher is an A, thus a 94.9 will be an A-.
He speaks about there's no dumb questions but you ask him something he treats you derogatorily. He will post late and that means less time for your homework and comes as a surprise so that means you have to check every day and make sure you have a lot of time because he posts late. (I missed two quizzes because he didn't put the quiz up on schedule
There are 6 discussion posts and 8 quizzes. The quizzes are pretty easy and theres no time limit. The discussion posts are very time consuming, so he gives you two weeks to do it. You have to write a lot and with a lot of detail on the discussion post. Id say you have to write at least 10+ clear, detailed, concise paragraphs to get an A.
Took the class online, it was difficult as in he gave a lot of homework and readings. But he gives you decent amount of time. This is one of those classes you have to bust your butt for. But at the end I can really say I learned quite alot
Dr. R asks you to do your homework and read his e-mails, announcements, and assignment instructions carefully before contacting him. This is very reasonable.
It is hard to ask this instructor for instructions on anything without receiving a negative reply. There are certain things that are vague in the syllabus yet he will reply with read the instructions. Instead of advice on certain areas we should improve on when grading he critizes.
He is an amazing professor, he lays out the instructions as clear as possible and helps with whatever he can help with. If you are going to school only, then this class is great; however, if you work a full-time job i would not recommend taking him. I have no time to do all of the work that he asks for.
At first it is hard to understand how his syllabus and grading work. I took the online course and there was a lot of writing. He never does give you a straightforward answer. But at the end of it I felt I learned so much more than i did then some of my other courses. The online topics we discus our papers on are very insightful. I would re-take.
If you make the required college-level effort, it is pretty simple in Dr. R's class. Five discussion assignments in the regular semester and only four discussion assignments in the summer term. All you need to do is read his regular announcements and e-mails carefully.
I do not have time for the amount of homework assigned, it is absurd. I have been at CSN for five semesters and never had one professor give this much homework, and its only a 3-credit hour class! i have had 5-credit hour classes with less homework. He assigned 50 videos and 9 sections of reading in one week.
There are only five assignments in the regular semester and four short ones in the summer. We have three weeks to do each assignment! It is not high school. There is no "homework". The video clips are short (2 - 5 mins) and always interesting.
His class is not actually hard... but there is a lot of work you can expect to do. Dr. Rag does give you plenty of time to accomplish this work, but if you are a procrastinator, you WILL struggle to enjoy this class. You can still pass, but you will be stressing yourself out to do so.
If you are not ready to use a Three-Week period to review the same set of readings and video clips and if you can't do SIX discussion assignments in the semester, you are not ready for college! His summer courses have only 4 discussion assignments, one per week.
Don't see what the fuss is about his discussion assignments. A multiple choice quiz and a Q & A submission prepare you for it. He gives three weeks to complete a discussion assignment. I followed his advice to complete it in stages and had no problems. Slackers who wake up the day before the deadline, beware!
Dr. R is tough. He hammers us with assignments, and is consistent. He makes me learn the course. He is there when I email him with questions. He is very knowledgeable of the subject, and its readings. He shares good stuff with us to read, and videos, and listen to. My world has opened up because of Dr. R. I am smarter. Thanks to Dr. R. I am happy.
Dr. R is a good teacher of the hybrid course. He only gives 5 major assignments (each broken up into three parts) over the the entire semester. These assignments are at first a little confusing so MAKE SURE TO READ the conditions of the assignments FULLY!! If you pay attention to what is being asked in the assignments it is easy to get a good grade
No exams. Just five major discussions, three assignments per discussion and a week to complete each assignment. A lot of work but easy if you set aside half an hour a night to do it. If you're taking PHIL 124 Philosophy Traditions of Asia, be prepared to spend a majority of the semester on just Hinduism. Professor docks points for minuscule things.
I took his Phil 124 this semester and want to correct the previous post. He does a lot of yoga philosophy in the first half of the semester. The second half involves Confucianism, Buddhism, and Zen poetry. The DA topics response assignment is open for three weeks. All assignments carry the same instructions. You lose some points if you ignore them.
Dr. Raghu was an exceptional instructor. This class is essential for acquiring functional critical thinking skills, and I now feel confident in my ability to have a discussion based in logic and reason. I would recommend that those taking PHIL102 only take it with Dr. Raghu.
Bizarre material. More busy work than anything. For a "critical thinking" course, he is super-rigid on his vague instructions; he'll dock points arbitrarily w/o feedback, and his class material is banal. Can you get an A? Sure. But he's not the most inspiring teacher.
I have soaked up more valuable education in this class about the world I live in than I have in my 36 years on this earth. Not only learned about such things but also helped me learn more about the kind of person I am. I the homework can be heavy but time managed well and open ears will easily land you an A. Great teacher!
I have learned so much from taking Professor Raghu's class. Before this class, I did not have the insight in world issues, I do now. You can tell he is very passionate about what he teaches. There is a lot of homework, but, pacing yourself with it and working on it for 30 minutes a day really helps. I definitely recommend this class.
Directions make no sense.
Directions, e.g., "Copy and paste the assignment question before you answer it", "Copy and paste student question before you provide the answer to it", make no sense only if you do not read them and/or you have language comprehension issues. I had no trouble following Dr. R's simple directions because I did not skim through them with roving eyes!
I honestly don't understand how this professor has bad reviews. I jusf finished my summer course with him and it was one of the best classes I've ever taken. Im originally a UNLV student but decided to take this course at CSN it was so easy and interesting. All this cpurse requires is time and anyone can pass with an A.
This professor can't stand it when someone disagrees with him, so just pretend you agree. Also, read ALL the directions! One slip-up, and you could get a zero. If you have nothing else to do with your life, then this class is for you cause you will spend 95% of your time on it. (I took online/lecture hybrid class)
It is a college course on critical thinking, not a stupid talk show in which your uninformed and/or illogical views are applauded. Dr. R asks you to examine the facts and the basis of your opinions. If you can't do anything sensible with the two weeks he gives for completing a discussion assignment, you are not ready for his class.
I took it because it is a Critical Thinking class. I expected a two-way open critical discussion with Dr. R on some issues and got more than my money's worth. It was challenging and enlightening. The planet is burning and Dr. R examines the causes and effects of global warming in his course. Take it before civilization burns up!
I took it online and it was a nightmare, I turned in 2 out of 3 assignment and I check on canvas and I had a zero. And this was an online class, the first assignment I miss the deadline by minutes and he didnt accept it, I turned in the next two and I still had a 0%. I immediately dropped the class because it was too hard and I didnt like the pro
Some of these students making inane comments here don't bother to read the syllabus or the repeated announcements and e-mails Dr. R sent to us. There were no assignments other than Q & A these past two weeks of school! And he stated clearly and repeatedly in his announcements and e-mails that our Q & A will be graded at the end of the course!
ALOT of busy work. Professor says to ask questions but answers them in a sarcastic tone. Would not recommend this class to full time students, majority if not all of your time will be spent on his course. His directions are confusing and unclear. Takes an hour and a village to decipher his instructions/directions.
This professor is horrible, shes constantly sending you emails telling you to not complain & read the poor instructions she provides. If you email her asking for help dont expect her to really help you out.
Very Interesting material, but so much homework! No quizzes or tests. There's a Q&A board assignment online & 5 discussion assignments, three textbooks and he posts so many articles, links to stories, videos, songs & you're expected to read & listen to all & then post questions in a certain format. Like a fulltime job. Hope you don't have a life.
Critical thinking has to do with logic and facts, not opinions drummed into your head by propaganda. Dr. R's course was about constructing and evaluating arguments. The previous poster evidently did not get it! The "A-" was concocted to make his silly opinions look credible. The course was mostly on America's responsibility for its own problems!
There is a malicious creature who keeps coming back to post his/her baseless comments on Dr. R's course. I received timely e-mails and announcements in Dr. R's course and had no trouble following his clear-cut and repeated instructions. There are two weeks to complete an assignment. Plenty of time if you are not a slacker!
This class is easy enough to pass if you carefully read the instructions (I got a 95%), but you won't be mentally stimulated by the material. He takes a long time to grade so make sure you read carefully because you won't know your grade for a long time. If you're unlucky enough to have this prof it's best to just tell him what he wants to hear.
Boredom is in the mind of the beholder. If you are not interested in understanding the world you live in, you will not be "mentally stimulated" by anything in Dr. R's course which includes different kinds of important issues. Dr. R also provides regular feedback in addition to the quizzes. They tell you very clearly what you need to improve.
He's ok. He's a bit tough on grading with the discussions. Due every 3 wks w/ 5 arguments out of the texts. Texts are dreadfully boring but I read what I had to and that's it. Extremely specific yet confusing instructions. Only quizzes. Texts mostly can be found online. Grades discussions twice a semester, mid semester and end. No EC.
Dr. R's Phil 124 Asian philosophy course is amazing. The short texts are very interesting. The summer course has a few weekly quizzes. They are not timed and are open for a week. And there are a couple of assignments easy to do in the time provided (7 - 10 days). Grading is clear and . You will learn a lot about Asian culture and thought. Take it!
Very interesting course on critical thinking. Good texts and module contents. Grading is based on quizzes which are not timed and informative discussion assignments with plenty of time to do them.
Great class! It challenges the way you think and teaches to be more inquisitive with information given to you by news, papers, etc. The Professor is very thorough and clear as far as student's expectations for this class. I truly enjoyed this class.
Class based off participation. a lot of discussions. He is looking for you to give feed back on past and present topics. He sends to emails all the time. You have to scan and read through .3 books not hard
You will get an A in this class if you do the work and read his instructions! Most of the answers in his quizzes are in the book, so just look for them. The others, just infer. I took the online summer class and there were 4 quizzes and 4 discussions. Don't wait until the last second to do the discussions, you have a week to do each assignment.
When the prof generously shares a great deal of his knowledge with you, encourages critical thinking, spends a lot of time in e-mail notifications and clarifications, and grades fairly in terms of well-defined criteria, it is cussedness and irrationality to give ratings without any justification. What a waste of the wisdom teachings of Asia!
There are 3 books to read. Not too hard, but at times confusing or boring. There are weekly discussion post & bi-weekly feedback post. They all have to be pretty detailed. The argument portfolios are worth most of your grade and he grades tough. He grades very slow, I had to bug him about it until he told me to stop asking for my grades. No midterm
He gives almost two weeks for assignments and multiple choice quizzes. They are on argument analysis. There is one discussion open until midterm and another open until the end of the course. Plenty of time except for slackers. He also has a feedback board in which he posts answers to student questions and gives feedback on assignments. Great!

Theres weekly and biweekly posts in a discussion form. There are 7 arguments which make up most of your grade. He takes forever to grade them and hes a pretty tough grader. Personally would not take him again
Assignments are simple with clear instructions and two weeks to do each! Class participation points help a lot. He wants us to focus on learning, but gives good feedback when asked. Always sends prompt replies to e-mails. Makes you want to learn more.
Took the online class for 16 weeks. The entire course consists of a weekly and biweekly discussion postings about the readings and 7 tests. Professors instructions are not always clear but the assignments are simple and self-explanatory.
First, know that I am an A student. The criteria was all over the place and when I emailed him for clarity, he directed me back to his syllabus. I turned everything in on time and worked through two months of the class before I got my FIRST grade back. It was a 38% with very confusing feedback. I withdrew. Perhaps I just don't have a PHIL brain.
His Fall 2019 Phil 102 course had a simple argument formulation and analysis assignment which required one reason for a conclusion from the assigned readings. In e-mails and announcements, he repeated his clear instructions with an example of an argument and its analysis in the assignments box.
Beware of the entity which comes here to make negative posts on Dr. R during course enrollment time. This entity is being tracked now. What it posts out of its malice has nothing to do with the facts about Dr. R's cool courses and teaching. He gives plenty of time to do a few interesting and eye-opening quizzes and discussion assignments.
Ignore the twisted comments of non-learners. They have nothing to do with the facts. I know Dr. R's courses very well. Dr. R replies promptly to questions and clarifies things. Of course, he has to refer us to the information in the syllabus and course homepage.
He is caring and nice. in this class, we did 6 Quizzes, 6 Quizzes Report, and 2 Board Discussion. the quizzes have no time limit and we had 2 weeks to do every assignment, which was awesome. Definitely get the books because you are gonna need them.
Its a pretty easy class, just read the book, and dont skip classes. The professor Is always there to help you.
I went into this class with absolutely no clear idea of what it was about. What I came out with four weeks later was a passion for understanding of all things new and exciting. Dr. R is very good at involving his his students in the here and now. I would take any of his classes. In the future I find him interesting as a teacher. A great motivator
I really appreciated the feedback and concise instruction given for each week of this condensed summer course. I enjoyed both books and feel like I've retained information from this class! Thanks Dr. R
Dr. R's Phil 124 introduces students to Indian philosophy and mysticism by examining the American teacher Daya Mata's encounters and experiences with the Kriya yoga tradition, talks on meditation by Indian and Western exponents, and topics such as reincarnation. Confucianism, Daoism, and Zen Buddhism (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) are included.
I have yet to get below a B in any college course or online course I have taken. Yet this class makes absolute no sense and doesn't give clear instructions at all. All I have to say if you take this class is GOOD LUCK
This is the worse professor I've had, extremely rude. I emailed him to clarify information, his first response was to read the description. I sent him another email because I was still confused. He responded extremely rude and angrily, making me feel like my only choice was to drop the class. Take a different class if you like to ask questions.
Dr. R's course contract clearly states that you must first read the relevant instructions and then ask specific questions pertaining to them. It also states that you will be reminded to read them and that they cannot be repeated ad nauseam. It is a simple requirement and has nothing to do with "rudeness".
Professor R always answers e-mails promptly and provides helpful suggestions. Anyone claiming otherwise should quote from his e-mails so the allegations can be verified. I would bet that they won't do that since they stand on very thin ice.
I took PHIL 124 over the summer and it was an easy A. There was a discussion and a quiz every week. There were two required books and they were cheap. I actually really enjoyed the content but you might not be into it if you're not interested in poems, Asian/Indian history, and Hinduism/Confucianism. Never interacted with the professor, just peers.
Prof. R sends weekly e-mails and posts announcements. His course page items alone give you a great education, if you read them. He makes helpful comments on student posts in the discussion board and it is up to you to respond to his comments or ask questions and "interact" with him. It's college, not middle school.
Your grade is only determined by discussion posts. The instructions are super unclear and he gives ZERO feedback. When I asked for feedback he told me not to worry about it. I posted all my weekly posts on the same day (the last due date) and always got an A. There are zero lectures and zero chances to make up missed points. Really disorganized :)
This class is very informative and the lectures Very are interesting.
Dr. Rs online class involves weekly readings that require reflective posts. I did not think it was too bad and that the work was pretty interesting! He was responsive inside of class as well and outside. He will challenge you, as a professor should, and he will help you figure out complex concepts.
Dr. R lays out exactly what you need to pass his class. Quizzes are open book, and can be started several days before their due date -- no time limit. Discussions are clear and fairly simple as long as you read the introductory material. A nice guy, easy to get a hold of :).
Dr. R is a great teacher. There is a lot of work to be done in the discussion boards but if you follow the directions you will get full credit. The quizzes are not timed which I loved and you are able to save and come back to it later. The textbooks are interesting so the course for me was enjoyable. I would take Dr. R's course again.
Professor Raghunath is a very teacher in terms of giving clear guidance and providing lots of resources. Assignment is easy, as long as you finish all the stuff before deadline. I will definitely recommend Professor Raghunath to anyone who wants easy but interesting class.
As long as you do your work every week. The class is fine.
his class is pretty easy as long as you do the discussions and finish the quizzes before deadlines. He gave helpful feedback and graded often too. Also he was one of the most supportive professors I had during this pandemic. He would always check up on his students and email us any resources or job opportunities he found. 10/10
He created the great environment for students to study from each other. I think it is the correct way to study: learn from each student, instead of professors. Definitely, the professor plays a role of instructing. We posted academic post to discussion board and exchange different ideas. The professor gave us very valuable suggestions and insight.
I thought this class was great! There are 5 modules that include 2 discussion posts and a quiz. The professor is always reaching out and sending updates on the class. Just follow the requirements for the discussions and youll pass easily! Definitely recommend.
He has a lot of discussion board arguments to do, and you have to review another student's post, but it's all easy. No homework other than that. He also gives clear instructions on how to do all the work. Very accessible outside of class. 1 quiz every 3 weeks (not timed, and by the book!) Would definitely take his classes again.
No online lectures were ever held - all information is in syllabus and announcements. I liked that the expectations were very clear, he sent out reminders for assignments and the content was explained well. Overall a good professor, but because everything is outlined clearly there is no exceptions! As long as you do your work on time, you'll pass!
Great professor, it is a good amount of work required but you do get a lot of time to do assignments. There was one quiz every three weeks and they were open book. He was very easy to get in contact with quickly, but accepts no late work.
He is the point, don't be Surprised if the emails are blunt. The class is based on five argument reports. Its pretty easy if you do the work. Theres no extra credit, over all i give this class an 10/10 :) .
Great Professor! The class had quizzes , we had a least 2 weeks to finish them and they were open book. The professor provides feedback on assignments .Overall this class was amazing!
A great professor
The class is straightforward, 5 discussion posts and feedback based on the required texts. Not difficult to do as he posts the formulas on how to structure an argument. The quizzes are a breeze as they are open book/notes. He gives you two weeks to complete the exams and you can pause in the middle of each examination. His feedback is great as well
Overall great class. There were two required books to read and create Analytical Reports/Feedback on. The professor sends out emails and reminder announcements weekly, explains all assignments really well, and responds quickly to emails.
Overall, the course was very simple and interesting. The professor gives clear instructions and sends reminders about the assignments. I did the summer course and there were only 4 quizzes total and 2 posts per week. So just make sure to do the work on time and you'll pass.
Dr. Raghu is an amazing teacher. Clear instructions and reminders sent each time. I took the 4 week summer course so only 4 tests and 2 discussion posts each week. Tests were simple enough if you read the assigned chapters. Overall a great class. Dr. Raghu was fast to reply when I had questions. I would definitely recommend him.
Great professor
Phil102 was great. Directions were specific and not too complicated. As long as you follow the directions and do the work the way that its asked you will get a good grade. Was not a heavy work load, theres is one assignment due every week, and five quizzes overall. Teacher answers all of your questions and if you care you can learn a lot.
The course was great! Mr Thillaisthan was very helpful in all assigned course material and very informative throughout the course regrading various up- to- date events regrading every class assignment. The hardship of the work varied from week to week, but as long as you study and read the books, you should do alright.I would refer him anytime.
This professor does not know how to run an online classroom. Weekly assignments were due on a single discussion board which became quickly cluttered and hard to navigate. He sends upwards of 5 emails a day and, while annoying, this became the only way to keep up with due dates since he doesn't grade weekly assignments until the end of the semester.
Dr. R is by far the worst professor I have ever had. I took his Phil 101 online course. Most of the class is creating 3 part discussion post arguments based on assigned readings and video lectures- on the same board the entire time. He is insulting if you contact for questions and will publicly shame you on a separate discussion board. Awful!!
Dr. R teaches a good critical thinking course. For the benefit of some students who don't bother to read his initial e-mails and announcements, he repeats the same simple instructions. These students also misunderstand the nature of feedback in a critical thinking course. Corrections of errors are part of feedback.
His class is based on the same two topics the whole time. (Climate Change and Covid-19). We have to make three discussion posts every week on one huge discussion post which he will not grade until the end of the semester so you are riding blind for your grade. He gives 5 quizzes total which impacts your grade a lot. His class is EXTREMELY political
The class participation board in Dr. R's course requires three posts each week. Each post is at most two paragraphs in length.
Disappointing class. Every week 3 long discussion posts based on 2 books, a video & an article are due on a cluttered discussion board post which he grades at the end of the year. I can't even know if I am doing my work right for a whole semester. Modules are crowded, tests are simple if you read, he sends SO MANY EMAILS. Do your best cuz he won't.
Read the regular feedback provided by Dr. R in his e-mails and announcements and in his excellent board of replies to questions from students. A horse can only be taken to a water trough. Whether it drinks or not is up to it.
doesnt put grades in until the end of the semester. doing wayy too much to be a 100- level teacher. im taking 200/300 level classes that arent as unnecessarily difficult as this one. i do not recommend this professor at ALL
Quiz grades are available on submission. He has a class participation board which is meant for the entire course period. It is designed to improve student learning. It makes sense to grade it at the end of the course. Continuous feedback is provided in announcements, e-mails, and the feedback board.
Dr. R teaches an online class. So, there are no classes to "skip". There are also no papers. There are three quite easy posts required each week in his class participation board. Basic college stuff which some are not ready for and/or unwilling to engage with.
I took the online course and it was a great. You need to purchase both books. Theyre super inexpensive to rent on chegg. You have the same 3 assignments due every week. Theres a lot of freedom with how you go about your assignment and which arguments you chose to elaborate on. Quizzes are open book and to the point. Professor is very clear! :)
Weekly discussion (3 posts) and it is graded at the end of semester, 5 quizzes worth 100 points. U feel that the class is slightly disorganized because of weekly discussion but he grades the discussion pretty easy as long as u follow his sample (I got 500/500). U r not middle school or highschool guys, keep up with the due date is that hard for u?
To get straight to the point, there are no extra credit assignments, about 4 quizzes throughout the semester (which are all pulled directly from the course's modules and assigned readings), and you must make 3 posts weekly on the class discussion board: (1)assignment, (2)give feedback to another classmate, (3)respond to the feedback. Easy class.
This class was not difficult. Stay on top of the discussion posts, read the chapters, and look for any more instruction through your email and you will do fine. I missed a couple discussion posts but at the end I still got an A- He answered every question and helped a lot. Very nice professor.
This course was very informational, I've learned so much, would definitely be taking all the information I learned from this course into my career. This course is easy to complete all you need to do is follow the course criteria and you're set :)
Dr. R. always responded to my emails. Two books are required for reading. Just follow directions and you will pass the class. He gives credit for effort and chances to fix your mistakes.
Easy Class all you have to do is the assignments and test , which he gives you two weeks to finish. You won't do wrong taking his class.
As respectfully as I can, this professor is confusingly bad. You learn some aspects of Philosophy, but few. Your required books are on pandemics and climate change. The tests are on the books, not any philosophy. It's a class disguised as philosophy to let him teach completely unrelated topics. Interested in philosophy? Please take someone else.
Professor sends 40+ emails a day, making it virtually impossible to keep track of important things. Professor does NOT abide by course syllabus, arbitrarily changing grading criteria and due dates with no notice. Professor changed due date for assignment from Sunday at 11:59pm to Wednesday at noon, and added new grading criteria AFTER due date/time
I did post the AIB Post on February 5. Also I take quiz 1 and 2 and I got flunk of geting D+ and F+. Even I use the textbooks to read and videos to watch. Even the Sociology, Italian, and Korean Class gave me too much work and I use my phone to see the CSN Canvas to do list
Prof. R does not send "40 +" e-mails a day. That's a crazy lie. In the first and second week of his online course, he sends e-mails clarifying repeatedly the basic components and requirements of his course. And his deadlines are firm. He makes useful suggestions on early submissions in the to allow time for feedback posts from other students.
Professor Raghu is very clear and consistent in his course policies and deadlines. Students are asked to read and acknowledge the course contract in the first week. Deadlines are fixed and students get reminders in announcements and e-mails. Very helpful!
Im still currently taking Dr. R’s class. First, he responds to emails quick but not in a clear way if you ask very specific ones. The class is disorganized because all his students submit discussions in one board but the modules are fine though. Overall, he’s okay, not the best. His quizzes are super super easy I’ve 100% on all of them so far
Far from being "disorganized", using one board for posts keeps them altogether in one place. It is very helpful. I feel sorry for Dr. R that he has to keep repeating instructions and requirements made very clear in the first week of the course. Sample assignments were also made available in the first week of the course.
Please ignore the malicious misrepresentations. Dr. R sends only plain Q & A in his communication with his students on course contents. He does not include the students' names. It is a vicious lie that he makes any adverse comments on the students or mocks them.
There are students who have decency and appreciate Prof R's teaching, unlike the malicious creature who keeps returning to spew his or her venom of falsehood on this website.
The entity coming here and repeatedly posting baseless and malicious comments is not a student. Anyone can make inane or slanderous comments on this website.
Reader beware! I've been following the comments on Dr. R. When there is a favorable review, the malicious entity shows up to offset it with his or her venom. You can see the pattern. Anyone can make malicious comments on any instructor on this website.
It does look suspicious that someone - who may not be a student of Prof. R - keeps coming back and changing a tag or two, continues to make false statements even under an "average" rating. This usually happens during the registration/enrollment period for courses. I have taken two online courses with Prof. R. The allegations are false.
Mr. Ellerkonge, just chill ok. You are needed in your own kingdom! Go back! The good Prof R only sends academic Q and A emails without the names of students asking the questions. He explained that he does it for students in his class who thought of the same questions and did not ask.
This professor, while not awful, is not the best. he responds to emails in a condescending way, and usually won't answer whatever question you asked him. Instead, he'll broadcast your question to the entire class in a way to make fun of you for asking it. Randomly gives new AIB tasks without notice, and is very vague in his explanations I feel.
Dr. R is right to to share the ACADEMIC Q & A with the class. There are no names of the students asking the academic questions and there is nothing offensive in the purely academic replies given by Dr. R. Irrational emotional outbursts at purely academic communication require mental health counseling. Get one!
Look up the meaning of the word "random" before you use it. Professor Raghunath occasionally makes announcements on a couple of additional and simple (requiring a few more sentences) discussion post tasks based on existing ones. He gives us a week to complete them. There is nothing "random" or unusual about this basic college-level activity!
There was a lot of writing every week on top of the 5 quizzes. I recorded it, and every week I was writing almost 3,000 words with just meeting the requirements, not doing anything else. It's not a terrible class, but you do have to pay a lot of attention. Also, the discussion system could really be improved.
Professor Raghunath requires three short posts in the discussion board. The first post hardly exceeds a page. The second post is just a couple of questions. The third post is your reply to a couple of questions you received from one student. Basic college work which can be completed easily!
He requires short posts each week. If you write more than what he requires, that's not his problem.
He isn't too bad, honestly his assignments consisted of doing discussion posts weekly, and doing the quizzes. Follow his instructions and example posts and it shouldn't be difficult as how the others are saying.
If you put in the weekly work and don't quit, you will get an amazing grade. Probably one of the easiest classes you will take. Gives you weeks to complete tests that are open book. Seriously TAKE HIM!
Overall good
Best professor I have ever known. Unit tests were very easy to do. Would recommend to students
5 easy quizzes and one assignment for the entire semester (graded at the end) which is three discussion posts a week. Not much feedback on the assignment so it can get a little confusing, but he is very good about answering questions and re-posting responses for the rest of the class. Very lenient grader. Do the work on time and you'll pass easily.
This professor should definitely have a better rating. Proof don't always believe other people. You put in the work you get a A. Just do the weekly assignments and its one of the easiest classes you will take. Gives weeks and open books to take the exams.
The professor's work material was complex at first, but it became easier after doing it for several weeks. I messaged him when I needed help, and he answered right away. I learned so much from his class, and I recommend everyone to take his course.
This class has three post each week, which if you are taking multiple classes it can feel like a lot, however the post were simple and easy to grasp after the first try. There are few quizzes involved, but they too are simple and all information can be found within the courses modules and textbooks.
Course consists of reading 2 books, 5 quizzes, 3-part discussion each week. Quizzes are not hard, mainly from books & each open for weeks to complete. Discussions can be a little confusing, so I highly recommend following Dr. Raghunath's example posts. The most stressful part is discussions are not graded until course ends (worth 1/2 of grade).
A lot of work but overall good class, easy to learn
Professor provides clear grading criteria. Gives feedback . Plenty of resources to complete discussion posts.
You're graded on the quizzes based on the readings + one big assignment that must be added to three times a week. Professor is clear with instructions which I liked, but it was a lot of information + the professor kept adding new requirements every couple of weeks, I understand how students might get confused if they didn't read the announcements.
This online class homework took a lot time for me personally but it was interesting doing all the research.
Dr. R uses a good basic book on climate change science and economics to teach evidence-based reasoning. It has nothing to do with politics. His discussion assignments teach critical thinking in stages. It would be non-learning to keep doing the same thing throughout the course.
I love that he really cares about how we did our homework, quick comment for the mistake we had. Even though this is a online class, it did not feel like it with all the reminded message about homework, how to do it right and deadline.
Dr. R uses two books in this class, and I enjoyed the books and this class!
Professor Raghunath was really good. He always helped me out with the reading analysis. I took this course for summer it required two books. You'll have 5 reading analysis which are kind of like short essays, but he has examples he needs you to follow and 5 quizzes but gives you two weeks to complete them. He's happy to help and give insight!
The summer class is an easy A, as long as you follow the instructions and stay on schedule.
Dr. R's class was great! There were five assignments and two required readings but they were quite interesting and I actually enjoyed them. The assignments were not difficult as long as you clearly followed the directions. The quizzes were also very easy to get done as long as you did the readings. Great professor and great class!
Overall great and work was fairly easy
Feedback is not given and nothing outside of quizzes are graded until the very very end of the course. His sources are so biased and painful to read and write about. If you're willing to submit to his views though its easy work with sufficient time to complete. Quizzes are open for weeks at a time and not timed. have access to the material during.
Prof. R gives regular feedback by e-mails and on his online feedback board. It is the responsibility of students to read the feedback and apply it.
Super exciting material that I didn't expect to enjoy but did! :)
Follow the professors instructions to the letter, go slow while doing this and you will get an A.
Excellent Professor, Excellent Course
He is an okay professor. The online course is an easy A but it is really frustrating that the 50% of your grade is not graded until the course ends and he barely gives any feedback throughout the semester. Interesting material tho.
Prof. R provides feedback in e-mails and in the feedback board, but you have to read them! 50 % of the grade is based on student discussion. It's not like you need feedback on a draft of an essay or paper. Duh!
Where to begin? There is only one discussion post designated for 5 total Discussion assignments. It's cluttered and a mess. The way he explains the assignments is very confusing. CBlows your email inbox up w/several emails that could be sent in one announcement. Easy class and not hw heavy but the professor makes it far more difficult than it is.
Really unorganized and is too lazy to make separate postings per discussions. Also his instructions are very confusing and not clarified enough. Instead of sending things through email, maybe make actual discussion posts with due dates so student are aware. Take the time to create separate discussion boards if you want us to write that much.
Professor R gives very clear models of the short discussion posts he expects us to do. Because of the number of students in his full sections, he has one accessible discussion board for our five short discussion posts in the entire semester. Multiple boards will be confusing. He also gave instructions on how to locate our posts by name easily..
he actually cares about how we did our homework, quick comment for the mistake we had. Even though this is a online class, it did not feel like it with all the reminded message about homework, how to do it right and deadline.
The first six weeks is a heavy focus on a 1990's book called, "Finding the Joy Within You", which seems more of a cult than a religion. The professor doesn't give feedback to individuals. He doesn't grade discussion boards until end of semester. No extra credit. One attempt for quizzes. Terrible class for an elective.
Prof. R uses a wonderful book "Finding The Joy Within You" by the American spiritual teacher Daya Mata (formerly Rachel Wright from a distinguished Mormon family in Utah). It is an excellent introduction to Kriya Yoga, one of the Asian traditions explored in this course. He provides feedback in his Feedback Board, but you have to read it!
Doesnt use Canvas to the maximum level that he could to make it easier on students. Requires very strict outlines of responses and all student responses throughout the course are all on one discussion board- very ignorant. You have to scroll through 100's of responses before being able to post your own, and cant double post. Doesnt grade till end.
This class didn't take up each of my time this semester, but the organization of the class was extremely confusing, and the professor didn't put in grades until after all the assignments were due, so I didn't know what I was doing wrong. The whole class was like 3 big tests, and huge discussion posts every week, it was very confusing, but easy.
It wasn't too bad. We were assigned 5 quizzes and 2 BIG discussion posts (one per half of the semester), so you're not graded by a lot. They also take a while to grade the discussion boards. The class wasn't hard though, and the quizzes aren't timed so that's nice.
Instruction is clear. Provided ample supplemental information to help with readings and discussions. I loved the books we were assigned.
The course required you to tread your materials and participate in a numerous amount of discussions. Not too challenging, just have to do the work and read.
The teacher does an amazing job of giving clear directions on what to do and how to do them.
As long as you read the instructions this class will be an easy A. I enjoyed taking the online course I didn't feel overwhelmed at all especially because Professor Raghunath gives you more than enough time to complete the assignments.
He gives clear instructions, organizes lessons effectively, and responds to questions and emails very quickly.
It was hard to get going with this class but once you figure it out it isn't very hard to do the assignments. The grading was a little strict but still not to hard that it is going to hurt your grade.
The professor gives us good books to read like "The Art of Worldly Wisdom".
Dr. R was such a great professor. Easy class but you learn a lot and it challenges you mentally. Highly recommend!
The teacher tried to accuse me of cheating over email for what was an error of buying the wrong edition of the book on apple books. She was not professional, and the whole thing could have been avoided had she provided on-time feedback and noticed there was an issue with my citations. Instead she tried to have a back and forth with me over email.
Professor made it clear that we must give correct sources for our quotes and specify the book edition we are using. It was in plain English. So, if you understand the language, you would know what he meant. No point spewing meanspirited and immature comments instead of taking personal responsibility. Dude, it is a course on critical thinking!
Initially hard to read however you will be setup for success.
Dr. R's PHI102 class is a good challenge, but engaging with the materials and using study tools like unstuckstudy ai makes it manageable. Attendance is key, but the workload is reasonable for the credit. Would take again.
His class was OK. It was easy enough, but you get your grades back at the end, so the whole time, you have no idea if you are doing enough to get a good grade. Also, he sends a truly excessive amount of emails. I think I got at least 100 emails from him over the semester and a lot of them could have easily been combined.
Prof. R uses quizzes and discussion posts for grades. Quiz grades are shown after completion. Discussion posts are student learning, feedback, and interaction posts. Don't expect the Professor to mollycoddle you on student posts. They are not essays or papers. They are graded TWICE in the semester. He gives clear examples and regular feedback.
Not really much positive to say about the professor or the course. I was extremely excited about taking this course but the professor is extremely lazy, no actual learning curriculum, and condescending in every one of his/her 5,000 canvas messages you will get and instructions. If you don't like teaching, then don't...
don't take his class unless you want to be confused by hundreds of announcement posts and emails. He also dosen't grade until the end of the semester and allows no leeway on his "course contract." No extra credit opportunities, only graded on quizzes and a confusing discussion board. Save your time and grade and take it at UNLV or another course!
POS worst teacher ever he truly is a narcissist and cant admit his mistakes also the other most recent post saying hes a good teacher was HIM! read it a few times and what student would even know about "slackers" in the class. HES THE ONE WHO WROTE HIS GOOD REVIEW
Ignore unhinged rants on par with abusive scribbles in a urinal. Dr. R has a very structured course with quizzes and discussion posts. Good feedback is provided. Announcements & emails are regular. Slackers don't read them and spew their toxic bile when they miss deadlines.
You'll spend 2 hours or less studying weekly. There are two discussions and two quizzes. Read emails/instructions carefully. The professor is clear on expectations and easy to contact, even for an online class. Get physical textbooks (less than $25) since online versions are different. Final grades are posted at the end of the semester. He's great!
That messy discussion board still haunts me. You'll have to really pay attention to what you're doing he does not grade until the end of the semester. It did not feel like a united class among students it was every man for themselves you had to SEARCH for a discussion post with no replies. Stop sending so many emails for the love of God.
This class was probably the easiest class that I have ever taken. The only problem with this class was the very disorganized discussion board. If you could not find someone to reply to, you are screwed (not likely). If someone does not reply to you, you are screwed (likely). Spent about 2-3 hours a week on this course. Cheap books. Amazing books.
If you know how to get out of a paper bag, Dr. R's discussion board will be easy to navigate. There are 125 + students using the board for their posts. Dr. R has clear directions on using proper headings for your posts, using the search box to find posts, etc. He sends email notices to the class if we inform him that we have not received feedback.
Bro was lowkey kinda tuff ngl.
As long as you do the work, this class is an easy A. One assignment every week, a quiz every 3. If you have a busy work life, this is the class to take. The only thing that I don't love is if someone does not respond to your prompt, you have to respond to yourself, which can feel like an extra assignment but this only happened to me once.
hes alright but should not be a professor. takes all semester to grade so you don't know how you're doing throughout the entire class. a very unorganized class as well, all of his classes are in the same canvas course so it can be very confusing at times. But do the work and u should be good. he does not want ot give a single a just a-'s
I would say take this class. It wasn't difficult but it was a bit time consuming. There are 5 discussion posts along with 5 feedback post, 5 reply to feedback post, and 5 quizzes all based on 2 books and what he has in the modules. The only thing is that he doesn't grade until the end which I don't really like, but it he also isn't a tough grader.
If you put in the work and effort, it is an easy grade and very clear. Reading each chapter is important but it is not overwhelming. If you are uncertain about anything, the professor responds very quick and is clear on what is to be expected.
While the beginning of the course was hectic and confusing, once you get into a rhythm and understand the expectations it is fairly simple to finish each week. It is definitely incentivized to get your work done as early as possible, and it pays off in the end. Do the reading, following instructions for each week and you'll be fine.
Great Professor! replies to emails within the day, very communicative. If you are taking his class as an online class it will consists mostly on discussion board be sure that you follow the correct formats provided in your discussion board answers or else he will take points off your grade. Quizzes are easy.
He deletes your responses without letting you know in advance and he's so strict about formatting. He changes how he wants things done last minute and you have to constantly check canvas to see if he did anything to your work.
the canvas is so unorganized and this is probably the worst online class ive ever taken. theyre always sending emails too. so strict about formatting and doesnt grade ur work until the very end of the semester. take someone else.
Probably the worst formatting for a class that I've ever seen. All of the classwork runs directly through the discussions board, and you will receive constant emails about requirements changing. He will delete your work and leave it ungraded without telling you, and each assignment feels hilariously stricter and more pointless than the last.
The quintessence of falsehood and mean-spiritedness in the previous toxic spout. If you can find your way out of a paper bag, and you can read simple instructions in English, you can easily participate in Dr. R's discussion boards. The majority of students do.
Don't be misled by toxic ventings. Prof. R always returns to students their discussion posts he removes for not following the repeated basic requirements and examples. They have the opportunity to correct their errors and resubmit.
He is truly a terrible teacher, considering the homework he gives us is confusing and does not explain it well. He will also remove your submissions and may not tell you why either. He also sends out millions of emails that barely benefit us. He is unprofessional and will not work with you to help you pass.
This professor was not very clear in their instructions, and failed to respond with helpful feedback when asked.
Ignore the malicious and loony tunes. Dr. R's course is clear, well-structured, and student-centered, as are his weekly communications. The slackers don't read his announcements and email notifications, and then pathetically shift the responsibility from themselves.
He's not by all means a bad professor, there were moments I found it frustrating to be in this class because you have to rely on other people in order to get a grade for discussions. When I would message him for help or better understanding it felt sort of condescending when he would respond. He waits until the end of the semester to grade as well.
Prof. R explains all course requirements at the start. Quiz grades are shown after submission. Discussion board grades are based on overall class participation. So he grades them at the end. Regular feedback is given throughout the course.
This class was super straightforward with lots of feedback. The reading materials were engaging and not dull. The professor also worked hard on communication so we never missed anything.
Overall great class, do the work and you'll succeed it's not hard but it's challenging if you don't keep up. You have to constantly check in on your work and you have to study.
I took ProfessorThillaisthan for Phil102 online. The course is really simple. 1. Follow the directions. He posts multiple modules and announcements to make the directions as easy as possible. 2. Participate. Theres 3 discussion boards due every module and they are very easy if you follow directions. He's also great with responding to emails.
Great professor, just follow in the instructions for the easy assignments the professor post and you will pass
Very simple straightforward just three quotes three questions for each quote and simple answers for each question. Quizzes are open without time limit. Do not wait for due date make sure you do quotes and questions the first week. He does give you one week to do quotes one week to do questions and one week for answers.
This class is pretty easy. Just make sure to do discussion boards and the quizzes and you should do good in the class.
Overall the course was good the only thing I didn't liked was that the discussion boards which were pretty much the whole grade percentage were only graded until the last day of the semester. I just which there would have been a feedback of how he wanted the discussion boards. I was overwhelmed to not know how I was doing and what grade would I get
His work was very easy and was only three assignments pre week. You had a test by the end of each week but the test are very easy to pass. The assignment are a bit time consuming, but other than that I would definitely take this class again.
Clarity and being concise is valued in this course. Following the assignment submission outline is important. I took a summer course and would recommend buying digital books for navigational ease.
I highly recommend taking this class. The instructor has a relaxed teaching style, and the coursework focuses on self-expression. You'll have ample time to complete the assignments
This course has life essential information that is useful for any type of career/life style.
Half the grade for the course is a discussion post that he wants in a very specific format but explains so poorly. Sends out 10 announcements a day that are angry at students for not following the format, but doesn't realize his instructions are the issue. Tells students to be concise and then he's the least concise writer I've ever met in my life
This class is confusing if you don't follow the modules closely. Rubric and instructions are not included on the lengthy discussion post. Professor would be better served teaching philosophy than sending a dozen messages per day about completing confusing discussion post. Disappointed because I was excited to learn about the topic.
DO NOT TAKE. He's doesn't teach. His discussion post is messy because you have 1 reply and you add and edit on for modules. His examples are strict and super confusing. Spams emails getting mad at people asking questions and blames others. His email is given to everyone so ur not sure if ur wrong. He self rate himself highly so rating is skewed.
Dr. R gives repeated clarifications on discussion posts in announcements and emails. He also has sample pages on them in his modules. Those who make the effort to read them find the assignments easy to do.
His feedback is garbage, he tends to frame you as incompetent for asking a question. His criteria are hard to understand, and the discussion posts are quite confusing and tedious. The class consists of discussions and quizzes. With that being said, the textbooks are very interesting to read and the quizzes aren't super difficult.
Dr. R replies promptly, courteously, and helpfully to sincere questions. Ignorant, toxic, and veiled gaslighting attacks in the forms of questions are exposed swiftly for what they are. Sincere students do well in his course. Malicious imps with masks will be unmasked.
Dr. R's class is extremely confusing. The course centers on one unclear discussion post with no concise guidance. Excessive emails seem to mask the lack of structure. He offers little engagement and is condescending when asked for help. Beware he writes his own reviews praising himself whilst berating students concerns— they are easy to spot/find.
Professor R was amazing! At first the class can seem a little bit work heavy, but it becomes easier as you go. You're required to purchase 3 different books, but all budget-friendly. Highly recommended for those who are just looking to get a humanities credit over with.
Seems to rate himself highly on this site. Extremely confusing discussion post is worth half the grade and not graded through the entire class. Does not directly address students about incorrect submissions resulting in clogged boards that he says he will delete but never does due to apparent nepotism. Do not take this class!
Ignore the false claims of the obsessively hostile student with serious issues who keeps returning here to spew his irrational malice and misrepresentation. Such students cannot possibly benefit from the Asian wisdom teachings extensively explored in Dr. R's course. And online courses require regular announcements and reminders. Get used to it!
Unfortunately, there are racist or otherwise bigoted students who come here to spew their ignorant, mean or malicious, and false claims against minority faculty like Dr. R. They can be recognized by their repeated berating and lack of evidence.
I really enjoyed this class. Read instructions and if you're confused email the professor, he is quick and clear with his responses. Keep up with the discussion board and readings and you will pass no problem.
He was an amazing professor. There are only 5 quizzes throughout the semester, and a discussion board that is used throughout the whole semester. There are deadlines, but you can submit it late; however, expect to have points deducted if you do so. Two books have to be purchased, but they are not expensive at all. Very clear with assignment rules.
Very direct with work. As long as you read the syllabus thoroughly the course is simple, just intricate.
This class composed is a lot of reading and weekly discussion posts. As long as you follow instructions exactly you will do fine. Only buy the amazon ebook editions of your books, and reach out if you have questions! A lot of his requirements are detailed in the modules but he was never against asking questions. Dr. R is a good professor.
The discussion post instructions were a little confusing at first, but after the first week or two, they became much clearer. Staying on top of the readings and reviewing the weekly modules really helps with understanding what's expected. I also really enjoyed the book we read, Stolen Focus, and felt like I learned a lot from it.
The class was pretty interesting
He's a pretty nice teacher, just remember to follow the discussion post and do your quizzes on time.
