Do not take this class for granted. Tests are relatively easy (ONLY if you study and have a basic understanding of the equations) Even-though he does not speak the most fluent English, you will start to understand him. You must be patient in the lectures because sometimes he messes up, but that is totally understandable and not a big deal.
If you do all the example problems he works in class, the tests should be very easy. He is very nice, and really wants to help students succeed in the class.
He is an alright professor. If you have the chance, take another professor. The other two comments may say he is "easy" on tests, but he is a pain in the butt to understand! I am just warning you, so take my advice and get a professor that can teach the subject a little easier because it will be worth it in the end.
The syllabus at the start of the semester said that an 89.99 is a B, and he doesn't round. That is exactly what happened to me. I was given an 89.99. Enough said. This man was incredibly unprofessional with dealing with grades. We never saw our tests. I feel he went out of his way to give me an 89.99 out of spite. No prof. does that.
Makes multiple mistakes every lecture, only to be corrected by the students later. Looks like he's annoyed if you go to his office hours. Drops pop quizzes on you every now and then for "attendance". He also says he'll tell the graders to grade a certain way on the next test because they "didn't grade how he wanted them to".
Tho gives lengthy lectures every class that are riddled with mistakes. He brushes these off by saying he is not perfect, but he makes so many that it seriously affects students ability to understand the material. If you ask him about an error he dismisses it as 'common sense' and puts the responsibility on the student. He is a not a good teacher.
I don't see why Tho's ratings aren't better. While English may not be his native language, he does make a good effort to make sure everyone understands the material. We've had like maybe 4 pop quizzes, but I'm not quite sure. He drops your lowest homework & test. If you don't do well on tests, your lab and homework grades can be very helpful.
Professor Nguyen. He honestly means well, and when people get bad grades in his class he does get sad. But, I would not take this class again. He lectures aren't that great, and I did not learn from him. I learned from my study partner who has taken Physics before. But, he gives many practice exams that are almost identical to the tests.
I wouldn't recommend him, but if you're stuck with him, you just have to do the homeworks enough times to really get it. Do all the problems for each set at least three times, and use them to figure out what you need to supplement. Between the practice tests and the homework, you'll be ready for the tests.
I wouldn't recommend this professor. His accent is hard at first, but you'll get used to it after a couple of classes. He really does mean well. He is super nice, but his lectures are poor. He has TAs grade the tests, and sometimes they grade harsher than he would. Look over practice tests, but tests always have a twist from the practice one.
Be ready to teach yourself the entire course. He clearly knows a lot about physics, but does a very bad job teaching it. Lectures are very vague and confusing with numerous mistakes. Youll have to teach yourself everything from the book, homework, and numerous outside resources, which is a huge pain if the rest of your course load is heavy.
Genuinely the worst professor I have had thus far at UGA. The man has no idea how to make study materials accessible and useful to students. Studying for exams was the biggest pain in the ass because his study materials absolutely suck. His lectures - dont even get me started, an accent so thick you almost cant understand him. 100% avoid this guy.
Very knowledgeable in the field and has numerous credentials and lead roles in organizations to prove it, but lacks the ability to adequately teach physics to his students in a way that makes it understandable. His tests are relatively easy given you do the homework and practice tests. He also allows a homemade cover sheet front and back.
Tho is a terrible teacher. Its obvious he knows what he is talking about, but he can't explain it. He also makes many mistakes during his lectures. Attendance is also a big part. I missed two classes and he gave me an 80 for my attendance grade. I never used any of my notes from class. I got through this class by googling every question.
Tho was one of if not the worst professors I've ever had the displeasure of having. He is condescending to his students commenting that many of the complex topics that he teaches are simple and easy to understand when many students are completely lost. Rather then helping in office hours he'd rather show you how to get the answer on an excel file.
Really dont understand why this professor has such a low rating. His lectures are fairly good given the subject. His reworking of problems that he posts on ELC is where you will learn most of the material. It typically parallels with the tests. The tests dont feel rushed unlike most math classes. 10/10 would recommend this teacher
Dr. Nguyen is a very smart man. Not all smart men make good professors. Physics is a tough class already, and he makes it more difficult than it needs to be. Not approachable, sometimes even rude, I would not have taken this class with this professor if I didn't have too. I recommend science guyz and online tutorial videos to help.
During lecture, he pretty much expects you to understand that material & tells you it's common sense. At times, it seems like he gets frustrated when you ask questions because you don't understand. Took a poll, 70% of the class said they weren't ready for a test, & he basically said too bad. I suggest the practice tests he gives and science guys.
Dr. Nguyen isn't all bad but shouldn't be your first choice. Lectures are dense, unclear, and riddled with mistakes. Homework is doable. Go to class for some extra points. Because of his accent and inability to teach, his "demonstrations" of physics during class can be quite entertaining. Dude was literally pulling on a ballon like it was his pud.
Dr. Nguyen is actually a really great professor. While he is strict, you can tell it is because he cares. He literally gives solutions to all the homework assignments after they are due and a practice exam with solutions to help with the tests. He tells you the specific types of solving problems that will be on the exam. He wants you to do well!
Horrible. Absolutely awful. Unreasonable and mean
Dr. Nguyen is very difficult to understand in class he has a very strong accent and goes into way too much detail when explaining simple topics. The tests are half conceptual problems which are straight from the homework. The other half is short answer and almost everyone of these questions came word for word from the book.
His tests weren't too bad tbh. They're taken straight from the homework, practice tests and lectures. My only complaint is that he thinks we don't try when we struggle. Physics is just hard conceptually. Also, he does tend to make a lot of mistakes on the board
Lectures often go into excessive detail. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. The homework is challenging but if you go to his office hours and can tolerate him being mean to you, he will help with every problem if you ask. He made promises in class about an end-of-semester grade boost that didn't happen, regardless of how small the margin from B to B+, for example
He tries to make it as manageable as he can. He does have an accent, but it never interfered with me understanding what he said. If you are good with math and science, it is an easy class. He gave formula sheets for all of his tests.
Extremely hard to understand and explains things very poorly.
Dr. Nguyen is very smart, but not a great professor. He makes things very unclear to the point where I have just decided to not go to class and read the textbook instead. He goes through material super fast, to the point where the other class is at least one exam behind us, which makes it hard to learn. I would not take this professor.
He honestly wants you to do well. He accommodated to students fairly often (i.e. let finals replace tests). His tests were predictable; they were all modified questions from homework, practice exams, or lectures. He truly wants his students to do well, so he'll host office hours frequently and accommodate his schedule to you. Honestly, a nice guy.
Dr. Nguyen is a nice guy. He is strict about deadlines. As for exams, he gives practice tests, but they did not help me very much. However, there are a lot of partial credit opportunities on exams. He often contradicts himself in ELC announcements, which makes things confusing.
Tho means well but when it comes to teaching and class set up, he's about as bad as it gets. Lectures are confusing and he has to correct himself multiple times throughout the lecture which confuses everyone. Doesn't know how to use eLC properly. Gives us practice test from covid era which are all multiple choice but post-covid, it's free response.
He was okay at first, just confused and a bad lecturer. THEN he gave us a test 3 days before the withdrawal deadline, around 11 pm ON withdrawal day said they wouldn't be graded until the weekend. When asked for accommodations because of this, (replacing a test w the final), he responded rudely to "just try harder instead of making these requests".
One of the worst professors ever!! Gave us an exam 3 days before the withdrawal deadline but didn’t tell us our grades until the day after despite promising us that we will get our grades back before the deadline. Posted on elc that we could come after class to his office to view the exam without an appointment but told me otherwise the next day
Don't take him if possible. He'll randomly change test dates and contradict himself constantly on elc. Going to lectures don't help no matter how much he claims it does.
Worst professor I have ever had. My GPA is gonna drop because of him. Randomly moves test dates, contradicts himself daily, and is condescending towards students. Only had him because I had no other choice. I recommend waiting out a semester to take a different professor, wish that is what I would've done. DO NOT recommend taking him.
Not a good instructor at all
One of the worse professors ever, would not let you be excused from exams unless the doctor's note describes how serious the illness is and even then says that he determines if you are still able to take the exam or not and not the note. Constantly changes the dates of exams and contradicts himself. Constantly makes students feel bad in class.
Worst professor I have taken. It is almost as if he makes his class harder than all the others on purpose. Take anyone else.
Dr. Nguyen seems to be a nice guy but is NOT a great teacher. I would recommend anybody but him. He changes the test questions mid test. His tests are also only 9 questions long. He does drop your two lowest homework grades which is a plus. Office hours are virtually useless and he belittles you for not understanding a concept if you ask about it.
Nguyen was not a good option for PHYS 1112 and I don't recommend taking him. He is clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, but he is not great at teaching physics content. Science Guyz carried me through. Exams are hard, there are no drops, and he rarely curved any grades. Homework and the labs are relatively easy though!
Dr. Nguyen's exams are fair. He is knowledgable in the material but by no means is good at delivering it. He is very disorganized and does not proof read his exams so there are multiple mistakes that we find out WHILE taking the exam and after the exam. Won't be surprised if most of my exams are graded incorrectly. Also doesn't use eLC correctly.
Dr. Nguyen is very enjoyable. The homeworks boost your grade and allow for a better understanding of the material. The tests often reuse questions from past tests he posts on eLC. I would definitely take him again if I had the chance.
Not a good instructor whatsoever, Test were extremely difficult from practice exams he gave. Multiple mistakes on test during and after. He does not curve at all. His lectures are pointless. I prefer science guyz than him. Please if you can do not take him, or you will struggle!
Professor Nguyen was good, as he allowed for homework credit and graded fairly. Exams were never surprising, as they were almost identical to practice exams given prior. However, lectures were not helpful. I recommend getting Science Guyz to help with understanding. You will struggle if you do not put in the time and review pre-exam materials.
I originally hated this professor, but I started going to class again and realized that he is actually a very good teacher if you can listen. I would suggest sitting in the front because he is difficult to understand, but if you have questions then he will answer them in class. ALL the tests were made straight from the homework and lecture question
At first, his class was extremely hard but after going to his lectures I started to understand better. All his exams were from homework and practice exam. If you just study for practice exams and homework you'll get a good grade. Honestly, all the bad reviews just seem like they just didn't study.
Get a common/mainstream textbook for this class. His problems in class, on quizzes, and on tests are photocopied out of textbooks, and if you do problems in there, I guarantee you'll do well on tests. He requires that you write down full formulas before you use them, so be super clear with showing work. Tho's a good dude.
Professor Tho's lectures are hard to understand sometimes as well as not very well explained. The tests are not very difficult however they are graded very strict. You can still learn the subject just fine with Tho but it is certainly frustrating at times and more difficult than it needs to be.
Exams are straightforward if you do the practice tests and review previous problems. He also drops the lowest midterm which is really helpful. Lectures are sometimes confusing but he really wants you to understand the material.
He fundamentally cannot explain the concepts he has to teach in fluent, coherent sentences. He is aware of this fact and can be snappy when asked questions, both in and out of office hours. Pop quizzes are used to grade attendance. Outside material will be necessary to pass, but tests are mostly from homework. Grading isn't harsh. Just a downer.
He is a kind man, but a horrible teacher. He constantly makes mistakes when explaining things and it makes it really difficult to understand his lectures. His grader grades the test strictly and unreasonably at times. Tests are NOT exactly like the practice exams like everyone says. Be prepared to feel frustrated. Also prepare to teach yourself.
Dr. Nguyen really wants his students to exceed. He values class feedback and wants to improve his class for the benefit of the students. Very smart and respects every student!
The only reason I got a B+ was the homework and lab grades. He can't teach a lecture hall with 100+ students. He tried but he would always teach the same things over and over and skim through the tough parts and get stuck on the easy things. The tests are not like the practice exams. Don't take this guy.
His lecturing is difficult to understand at first due to his accent, but you'll be able to follow along better with time. Test questions are generally inspired by textbook problems he covers in lectures and practice tests he offers (do NOT just do practice tests for test prep). If you're struggling with hw, he'll cover problems in class. Good luck!
He can be hard to understand because of his accent and sometimes his lectures can be difficult to follow. Tests were similar to the practice tests he gave.
He made a lot of mistakes during lectures which made it hard to learn the material. His accent was very difficult to understand. Tests were rough but he drops one. Lab was very easy. Lots of homeowkr. No feedback on tests unless you go to office hours
Overall terrible teacher!
if you care about your mental health and grades DO NOT TAKE HIM. if he is the only other professor available, THEN WAIT ANOTHER SEMESTER TO TAKE THIS CLASS. I have studied hours for his exams, gotten science guys; LITTERLY any resource you can think of and he makes this class TOO DIFFICULT. TAKE MON IF YOU CAN, NOT THIS MONSTER.
This guy makes an intro to physics course way more difficult than it needs to be. Participation is taken through in class quizzes that are 5 minutes long and take way longer than 5 minutes to work out even a single question of the quiz. Exams are full of bad questions that are almost never based upon in class material. I could go on much more.
The class is pretty easy if you do the homework and practice tests. His lectures are mid but he's nice.
The class was unnecessarily hard. He is very hard to work with, makes many mistakes, and just is not a good professor. I withdrew from the class after he made a mistake on an exam and instead of just dropping the question, he upset most of the class by keeping it after stating he would drop it. It was the final straw and I could not take it anymore
I would honestly rather chew on barbed wire than have him as a professor again. He is easily the worst professor/teacher I've EVER had. He makes so many mistakes while "teaching" and on test questions. Tests are 14 MC questions with no partial credit and he refuses to curve the test grades even while the avg has been in the low 70s. No drop test.
Dr. Nguyen is a good professor, however his tests are only 14 questions which makes the test very difficult. There is a lot of homework and random pop quizzes that are for attendance. He is a very knowledgable professor, but he can be confusing at times. He is accessible through email and in person to help clear any confusion or questions.
One of the worst professors I've ever had, he makes the course so difficult and makes so many mistakes on the exams. Doesn't work with you when you are having a tough time in the class and the test questions are nothing like what is learned in lecture.
Tho isn't a very good lecturer, and he doesn't really use slides. Science guys has carried me I don't even use the stuff Tho gives anymore. There's a fair amount of homework, but it's good to actually do it because the tests are very similar. The little in class quizzes and practice tests are a lot like the test too.
Your grade is based off of how you do on 3 14 question exams and a final with no curve and no dropped questions. This dude actually is the worst teacher I have ever had. Anyone who says anything positive about him is a complete sweat who eat, sleeps, and breathes physics. I have given up on his lectures because he literally copies slides from book.
Very hard to understand his lectures, especially since he writes in microscopic, illegible chalk. Promised us partial credit on the syllabus and all through the first few weeks of class, then 2 days before the first test decided to make it 14 multiple choice questions. Please take the other professor this is the worst class of my college career.
He has been the worst professor I have ever taken. I would rather take O chem 2 than retake his class. He has no drop tests and gives no partial credit or curves despite being promised at the beginning. He will mess up when teaching and expect you to know the correct answers. Gives pop quizzes that are similar to exams but you must be in class.
Very difficult class-I've taken physics before. Unless you get Science Guyz you will have no understanding of material. No curving, 14 question tests (no partial credit), cumulative final. hard homework. If you have to take it like me- dont worry you'll find a way to do it, but I wouldn't recommend. All tests based off practice tests, quizzes, HW.
Very nice man, very disorganized class. He does not use elc properly, no partial credit on exams, cumulative final and no drops grades for exams. No partial credit on exams, and he has pop quizzes for attendance. He has made multiple mistakes in the wording of exam questions, including the final.
I went to the lectures, but never learned ANYTHING from him. He was like an improv actor pretending to teach. board is illegible and sometimes incorrect and his words don't clarify anything. Exams have trick questions and typos. no drop exams or extra credit. random, time-sensitive quizzes. he canceled our Zoom w/no offer to reschedule. unhelpful.
this is the worst professor at uga straight up
Professor Nguyen is a very nice man, but his lectures were extremely confusing. A lot of the time his work was wrong, and there were many errors on slides and exams. No extra credit, or partial credit at all. Tests are 14 questions, which makes it hard to do well a lot of the time. Final exam is 25% of your grade and very challenging to do well on.
Professor Nguyen is very hard to understand and his handwriting is basically illegible bc he writes on a chalkboard. He often makes mistakes while working out problems which confuses students. He does let you use your own cheat sheet which helps tremendously on exams. He does not offer extra credit and is extremely unwilling to curve/ round grades.
This might just be the worst professor to ever exist on God's green Earth. He is actually the worst lecturer; I never understood or grasped anything from his course; might I add, Science Guy did not help AT ALL? To save your life, your GPA, and your hopes and dreams, I encourage everyone to never take physics at UGA with him!
Dr. Tho Nguyen really cares a lot about his students. I have to admit, it is a hard course and the lectures are sometimes quite confusing. However, he really wants his students to thrive and always willing to support his students in office hours. Attending office hours and go through the assignments with him really helps me through this course.
TAKE MON. Ellenberger's CHEM2212 lectures are better by-far (look him up). So many mistakes in lectures, answer keys to tests were WRONG (and refused to admit it), homework is insane, ridiculed a guy who asked a question the first day and then no other questions asked in the rest of the semester. Lab was the only reason I got a B. I rest my case.
This is possibly the worst professor at UGA. Do everything you can not to take him. If you do, you will be teaching yourself the whole class. He is a terrible teacher and makes mistakes every single lecture. It is almost better to not go to class than to go and be told the wrong thing.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! The homeworks are NOTHING like the exams and he does not curve a damn thing. The lab is where I learned most of the concepts, as well as outsourcing to tutors who I paid a significant amount of money to help me understand what he did not teach. Please do not go through what I have gone through, it isn't worth it.
He's a super smart and nice guy, but he does not know how to teach the basics. We'll spend all class deriving a formula with no explanation on how to use it. Lectures made it more confusing, and he does not use ELC correctly. Only good part is that he's very understanding and extended most of the homeworks for everyone.
He got upset with us for having a high test average so the next test he purposely tricked us so we would do worse. he also would go and explain equations and how to do them and then at the end of class, someone would correct him and he would tell us that he did it completely wrong and not correct himself
His tests were almost exactly the same as the practice exams, but the actual lecture was so unhelpful. He can't teach and was consistently wrong in class. His accent is strong which makes it even harder to understand. Avoid at all costs. Nice guy but not a good physics professor.
This professor confuses a lot of equation even though it is explicitly said in the textbook. He also messes up the homework and test that he assigns. I had to teach myself this subject in order to understand the material.
Overall a very negative environment. Do not take him. His tests are much harder than problems in class, and the homework is nearly impossible. The textbook and outside videos are the only reason I passed.
Okay chat. The practice exams he posts are almost the exact same as the real ones. However, the lectures were completely useless and I had to learn the entire course myself. Homework is impossible. He said class the average for second test was too high(84) so he purposefully made the third test extremely hard. Very thick accent, hard to understand.
This class was the worst class i've ever taken. The lectures were difficult to follow. Problems were frequently solved incorrectly only to fix them 5 min later. The 3rd test was so different from the first 2 because the average was higher than he expected on them. I understood the material better when i didn't listen to lectures than when i did.
It's obvious Professor Nguyen is a good person and cares for his students but he is simply not a good professor. His lectures are all over the place and he makes frequent mistakes during them. If you have to take him, it's not the end of the world, but be prepared.
His lectures were kinda hard to follow and he made mistakes at times. He is helpful however and willing to help. The tests are really easy and the same thing as the practice exams.
I have to be honest, this is one of my best professors at UGA! Ignore all the other ratings that trash him, just do the practice exams, and it's an easy course. Easy A.
This professor teaches very well. Sometimes he messes up but he quickly corrects his mistakes. He answers questions in class and makes the material easy to understand. The tests are the same as the practice exams so they are pretty easy and he lets you use a cheat sheet.
Not a great teacher but gives us the needed materials to get an A on the tests.
Frequently makes MAJOR mistakes during lectures, on his review guides, and even on exams, but then does not put in the effort to correct himself. Ignores feedback from students and is rudely dismissive. Exams are exactly like practice exams, but because of the mistakes, students never know if they're studying the correct material. -100/10
I could write a 5-page paper about how he is the worst professor I have ever had, but here's a list 1. Doesn't speak proper English so he cannot explain the most simple concepts 2. Doesn't want students to do well( he told us that he thought we were cheating when the class avg was above an 80 3. His elc page is a mess A brick could teach me more.
Dr. Tho is a smart professor who knows his stuff but his knowledge doesnt par with his teaching skills. He would make mistakes on his lectures and then correct himself later; Heavy accent. He does pop-quizzes and gives you a short time period to finish it so highly recommend going to all his classes. Practice exam = similer problems on acutal exam.
Tho Nguyen is a decent teacher. He seems to care for his students. If you take his class be prepared to STUDY outside of class! There is LonCapa homework every week. His tests are easy. He gives you a cheat sheet and zooms. Honestly, you SHOULD pass if you actually studied his study guides and homework! He's honestly not that bad, but not optimal.
This guy just sucks. Try and sit behind smart people because that's about the only way to get a good grade.
Thick accent, horrible at teaching. Lectures were useless - I didn't learn anything from a single one. Learn from YouTube. Tests were the exact same as the practice tests, but questions slightly changed so easy to trip up if you misread the questions. He aims for 70% test averages (sometimes we got lower). Homework was medium difficulty.
Not the best lecturer, but understanding and reasonable. Allowed 1 full-page formula sheet for exams which helps massively. 30% of your grade is HW, pop quizzes, and lab and exams are based on 20, 15, 10 format so you can get a good grade even if you fail an exam. Exams are all MC, but a good formula sheet should get you a minimum 80 on each exam.
He doesn't speak English. He teaches content that isn't even part of the course. 1211 doesn't need prerequisites but his class does.
he can't speak english and makes mistakes constantly during lecture so you dont know what is going on at all. He lets u write ur own equation sheet, so i would basically rewrite the practice exam onto it and hope it would work. got me about the class average, which isnt saying much since its a 65. only posts announcements on elc hard to navigate
Very hard to understand. Does not use eLC correctly, hard to navigate posted material. Condescending during office hours. Makes countless mistakes during lectures . Gives out pop quizzes if attendance seems low. Allows formula sheet and gives practice exams for the exam which helps you at least get a 65 (which is good for him). Avoid at all costs.
Tho is awful. Be ready for all nighters and completely learning everything on your own. The homework isn't helpful, Lon capa is the worst website ever. The only benefit is he posts practice exams that are relatively similar to the exams. Other than that he was terrible, I took and did well in Ochem 2 and this class is harder to study for/take tests
3 Exams and a cumulative final. Dr. Nguyen knows his stuff but his lectures are sometimes hard to follow especially when he makes up his own examples not on the slideshows. I took AP Physics Mechanics in high school and that's probably the only reason I did well in this class. Each test was multiple choice and ~18 q's. Good luck future students
This professor is DOG WATER. I've never had such a bad professor at UGA. When the class does poorly on exams, he blames them instead of looking at his own lectures. Every. Single. Exam. Has had MULTIPLE errors. They're just 18 MCQ?? How do you mess up more than 10% of your own questions? DO NOT TAKE if you value your education or GPA.
I have never been so disappointed by a professor. I got a 5 on the AP Physics exam and am barely passing his class now. 2/3 of our exams have had failing class averages and he continues to blame us. His tests are only 18 questions and he weighs each questions differently without telling us until after the fact. Do not take him if you can avoid it.
This teacher wasn't very good at lecturing which I think is crucial to understanding the concepts taught in this class. If you are going to take this class I think it is necessary to know how to teach yourself. He would repeatedly tell us the easy things and then never really go over the hard topics.
Cannot speak English. Always demoralizes the class by emphasizing he aims for a 70% class average. Is not approachable during lecture and outside of class. Gives out pop quizzes randomly. Gives out practice exams which is loosely based off of the actual exam. Lectures are hard to follow. Take any other physics professor. Avoid him at all costs.
Hard to understand through his thick accent and he often goes on tangents of things you don't need to know. lots of hard homework on Loncapa that does not relate to tests, however, he does often go over the harder ones as a class. random participation quizzes and tests are hard and averages are usually failing, but he generally adds a few points.
His accent almost makes class pointless cause I can't understand anything. He does random quizzes mainly to check attendance. You can miss up to 2 though. The content isn't super hard but his teaching makes it somewhat hard. Tests are similar to practice tests and homework from that week but honestly a bit harder. Not a lot of homework.
It was one of the worst classes in my life. It was genuinely awful. The class average was higher than he expected on the first test so he purposely made the second test practically impossible and claimed to be content with a 70 average. He barely speaks English, there were many times you could not follow what he was saying. It's easy to get lost.
For the love of God do not take Nguyen. I absolutely loved physics 1 and got an A but it is nearing finals and I'm fighting for my life to get a B. The accent is so thick that an entire class goes by without a single concept understood. He seems so sweet but he is a terrible teacher. He also can't figure out elc so EVERYTHING is in announcements...
Class averages for exams are in low Cs and he considers that good. Everyone who does well is mostly all cheating. Lectures are useless and ELC is disorganized
worst physics professor at uga
It's clear Professor Nguyen is very qualified and knows a lot about physics. But is doesn't translate. His accent is very hard to understand and his lectures and PowerPoints are essentially useless. Don't take this class if you have 2 other hard classes. You will be teaching yourself the entire course. Please beware great person, horrendous teacher
The only way to pass this class is by either sitting behind the smart kids or cheating on every test like 90% of the class does
Dr. Nguyen is a caring professor. However, you will learn nothing from the lectures. You still need to show up because there will be pop quizzes (they're an attendance check and the grade you receive on the quiz itself doesn't matter). To prepare for the exams, make sure you can do every problem from the lectures, practice tests, and homework.
I dont understand this whole "Its clear he cares about his students" thing. He really doesn't and doesn't care to help make sure his students do well in the class. Insists on not rounding grades, not leniant at all, doesn't curve unless the class average is a low 70 (curve is literally 2 points if that). Dont take him.
Dr. Nguyen is a nice professor who cares about his students, and going to his office hours is important if you want to succeed. You can do your homework there, and he pretty much gives you the answers. For tests, study/memorize the practice tests (some questions are exactly the same) and hw questions. However, his lectures weren't all that helpful
Tho Nguyen is one of the best science professors I have ever taken. He is very clear on his guidelines and lectures are easy to understand. He is very accessible outside of class, and clearly cares for all his students. I unfortunately got a 1 on AP Physics in high school, but Prof. Nguyen's teaching has allowed me to understand physics better.
Very strong accent so extremely hard to understand. He considers a C grade (the class average on most tests) to be a "very good grade", and if the class average on a test is higher than that he assumes people are cheating and will make the next test way harder. Most people who do well on the tests just cheat off one another. .
I do not know where to start with the flaws with Professor Nguyen and this class. He is disorganized, does not post grades in a timely manner, has a language barrier, draws problems exclusively on the chalk board (illegible handwriting). I would recommend anybody to pick another instructor, as it is very hard to succeed in his class. Good luck!
Hard to understand, exams are kinda easy
He has a hefty accent, really hard to understand what he is saying. He constantly makes mistakes and has to go back and correct them. This makes it very hard to learn. He is not very helpful when you go to office hours. He considers a C a good grade and will not give curves if the average is better than that, people doing well are usually cheating.
This class is hard. He's not a great teacher, but you will learn physics if you take him. If your serious about physics. Each question on the exam is super weighted so missing 2 questions already puts you at a B on the exams. The exams are very lightly curved. He's a good guy and cares, but his teaching style is rough and attendance is mandatory.
