he's such a great professor! i hate public speaking and do horribly in it but i got an A- in his class. makes you feel really comfortable. 2 speeches and an exam if you take him in the summer.

Really nice person. He makes the class very fun. You never fall asleep. 2-3 Speeches plus a midterm. He is an excellent grader. If you are afraid of public speaking, after his class you won't be. If you had to take someone for speech, he would be it.

You might not get an A in his class, but to get a grade below B+ you'd really have to try hard (if you do the work). Though he usually doesn't let you out earlier you won't mind, because the class goes by so fast. 4 speeches and a test. That is all folks.

Really nice teacher always supportive. He wants to see the class improve. There are like 4 speechs, depending on the semester, but he gets the class to become friendly like a friendly and the environment is really supportive.

This was the class I was afraid of the most, but with Garvey I forgot about my fears. I got all A- in three speeches and he still gave me an A. He can be critical sometimes but this really helps and even motivates you to do better in his class. And as a person, he is the kindest one in the world.

Before this class I was terrified in speaking in front of people. Now I feel so much more comfortable. He's a really nice guy and his class isn't difficult at all. Just rehearse before giving the speech.

I dreaded speech class since the start, but he made it so much better. He is a nice professor who is even nicer with grading. He doesn't like it when people are late though. He is encouraging and teaches well. His speech is very clear and easy to understand. Definitely take him!

He's a great guy and a very easy grader. The speeches are about anything you want, and his midterm is a breeze if you memorize the headlines from the book. Make sure you're prepared on the first day of the speeches, even if you are the last on the list.

If youre taking the intro to acting class he is probably the best, but having worked with Rhinehart it's kinda up in the air cuz he's great too, but skip Saviets' class if you can. greatt teacher, recommended to all my friends. very helpful, few small quizzes which he gives you everything you need to know the class before and 2 scene presentations which are fun, 1 counting for midterm and 1 as final, work with a group to put together a scene from the play he gives you, get to choose your role (director, actor, designers)

Great professor! A little boring sometimes but his class is so easy. He gives you answers to the 2 quizzes one class ahead. Had to do 2 plays for projects which required effort but it was still easy overall. Also 1 paper due at the end of the semester. No final. If you want an easy A and a good class, this is it!

Public speaking is one of my biggest fears. I am so glad I took him. He actually made us do physical excercises in class so we wouldn't feel so nervous or tense and it really helps. Basically you just have to do some research on your topic, practice sppeech, come to class everyday if you can, and you will be fine. Does not give any harsch comments.

Professor Garvey was a great teacher. The class greatly improved my oral communication skills and he cares about how well you do in class. You do have to always be in class because attendance is mandatory.

Best speech professor u can find at Baruch College!!! 2 speeches in summer with 1 written exam. He's very lenient on grading. No harsh comment on ur speech! One more thing... he makes students do vocal warmup before class starts! I swear u'll love this class!

Professor Garvey knows his stuff. He judges you not only by how you perform in class but all around. People say that it is an easy A. I don't agree. You really have to work hard to get an A. Even though i did all the work and attended class regularly I ended up with an A-. I highly recommend him, you will definitely improve.

I always hated that I had to take speech. But professor Garvey made it good. Still can't believe I got an A. Just prepare and rehearse your speeches and you should be fine. 1 midterm multiple choice and his review gives you exactly what to study for. Persuasive speech=final. rehearse!!

I had him for ACTING 2 and I absolutely loved it. There was a little written work to my surprise but no real biggie. He really made you think about your scenes and made constructive complements and also criticisms when there needed to be. Loved his class. My favorite thing about him though was . . . he has big ticklish feet.

Garvey is the man!!! Truly learned alot from him. At first he's very tough but is bcuz he wants you to do well. Only 3 speeches. Excellent professor. 4 speeches and 1 exam. He does not grade harshly on the speeches, and the exam is straightforward as long as you know the material. Lowest grade he gives on speeches is a B+. Only thing I disliked about the professor was that he loves to give his opinion about everything, and tries to influence your own beliefs. TAKE HIM! =]

Dreaded having to take speech. However, after taking it with Professor Garvey, I no longer hate giving presentations. He really tries to make students feel comfortable when they're giving a speech. 4 speeches and a test based on the text. If you have the opportunity to take Com 1010 with Prof. Garvey, take it! In the beginning, it seemed like too much with the books, 3 scenes, journal, reports, but it really was not bad. Basically, if you are serious about acting, take him! If not, do not waste your time or his time. This is ADVANCED acting, so acting is taken very seriously, not just fun and games. I'm glad I took his class and I love acting even more.

He takes his craft very seriously. If you take it to get an easy A to up your GPA don't take him.He doesnt like when people do not do what is asked of them. He also doesnt like when students take this class as a joke. It sounds like a lot of work, but not as time consuming as it sounds in the beginning.He's work ethics are great.

Professor Garvey is an absolute beautiful professor. I took him over the summer and loved it. I was absolutely anxious on taking a summer class for the fear of a lot of work to go with it. In terms of outlines, he does not go crazy with them. Just have it nice, neat, and organized. For the exam, wait till the review. RECOMMEND HIM SO MUCH!

This is the best Prof. for this class; very helpful, easy going, giving 4 speeches was not so stressful. If you are foreigner you should take this Prof. he does not lower your grade because of your accent.
