Great course, cool teacher. Tough material but made interesting.

Very unhelpful and self-absorbed, explains material in a way that the average person cannot understand. Do not take unless required

Fun class
Jerk!!! Hates me because I am not "involved" enough..just because I am not in the Anthro club with a bunch of nerds....I am still a straight A student
the material is hard, but the lectures are very interesting and he is very clear, a lot of people dropped out after the 1st test because you have to really think about the questions and know the material, i ended up with a "B" in the class, i le
I learned alot in this course. He kind of discourages you from getting too involved though by telling you not to major in anthro...theirs no living in it anymore.

He's so rude. I don't know how I got on his bad side, but he made fun of me in class for no reason, graded my tests harder and told me to never take another class with him again. Avoid him if you can.
The tests were nothing of what he taught us in class. I failed both tests and had to withdraw from the class.
Aleto is very difficult...in order to stay on his good side, make sure that you go and see him about your work. If you just ask, he is very helpful...but he will not come to you!!!
If you want an A in his class you either have to be a flirty airhead that laughs at all of his supposed jokes - or a dork of a male that he perceives as being no threat to his chances with all the airhead girls. Its all pretty obvious, once you understand his motives - just like the Yanomamo.
I don't believe that you have to be a flirty airhead in order to get on his good side....I am neither and have the highest grade in the class, I think that you just have to sahow him some respect and take his classes seriously.
I thought that he was evil at first, but when I actually talked with him he was very helpful and, dare I say, likeable.
I hated this class. You have 2 tests and the final as the main bulk of your grade so if you do bad on one test you're screwed for the rest of the semester. There's info on his tests that wasn't covered in lecture. I strongly urge you not to take him for one of your elective classes!
pay attention youll do fine
I've never worked so hard in my life to recieve such a low mark. Besides the pictures he shows of his smokin wife (jk), there is really not too much that interested me in this class. Tests are hard and the class is boring. A little hint- don't try to participate, he'll shut you down.
excellent, one of the only professors at Bloom that truly is clear and teaches well
The class was great and Doctor Aleto is a funny guy. His tests were not too bad either.
this is a prof who has studied at a very high level. and it comes you can see it in his teaching style. If you want to become a better student take Aleto's class. If you want an easy A take Doc and Faith class.
Nice guy, awesome sense of humor.. I seriously laughed my butt off. He really knows his stuff. Just make sure you study for his tests. I would definitely take him again.
one of the best classes ever! I love Dr. Aleto, and this class.
very good, humerous, and likeable
Don't let the others fool you, he has his favorites, and if you're not one of them, keep your distance. He's got an ego the size of Texas, the compassion of Hitler and a real problem with females that aren't Barbie ditz's.Don't make yourslf stand out in class if your a girl and smart,he'll run you over.
Class was hard as hell. 3 tests for the final grade. You mess up one and your screwed....He has a sarcastic sense of humor but it doesnt help the class
I loved this guy, people who think he is hard are slackers, because I thought his tests were really easy. I love the guy, and his off sense of humor. He really is great, and I would recommend him to anyone who does not mind putting a little effort into things.
Well, his class wasn't very hard, but he is kinda a ****.I agree, huge ego, but alot of college professors do. Either way, his whole class was looking at pictures of him and his wife in Peru. Not that entertaining.
This guy is a great prof, he IS compassionate if you are going through a hard time, will bend over backwards for you as long as he can see that you have been doing your best, has no patience for slackers. Very funny. I have learned more from him than most profs I have taken added together. Take him for a challenge but also to really learn.
He's one of the most interesting professors in the university & certainly the best anthropology professor. I don't understand the comments about him being tough on smart females. I've gotten As from him in every class. He demands a great deal frorm all of this students. Also, he's never been to Peru, so how could he show pictures of his wife there?
I thought Aleto was a good prof. His tests are a mother, but his lectures make sense and he explains everything in great detail. I'm a female non anthro major and I managed an A- in his class; however I did sense a hint of ego about women (ie commented about women don't typically mow grass)-just focus on the class and ignore crap like that!
He really knows his**** and has a great sense of humor. im really looking forward to this class! :-)

He'll push you to do your best-even when you hate him for it.He requires you to learn the material, not just memorize the test answers like most of the other profs in the dept.If you want to slack, don't take him-you'll just end up hating him.But if you want to learn and grow as a student,he's the man to take your anthro classes with.If you're willing to try,he will invest a lot in your education and you as a person. But only if YOU want that-he won't make you be a good student if you don't want to be one.
Prof Aleto is definately a great teacher!! The tests are hard but if you pay attention in class, you really won't have much trouble doing well. And, the POP quizzes are fairly easy as well.. Just make sure to review your notes everyday because you never know when he'll give you a quiz, but he tells you when the tests will be. Overall, great class!
Dr. Aleto: intelligent/funny/hot. the class is interesting, he's funny, three hours fly by...he's not so bad to look at either ;). tests are hard so know your stuff if you want to do well. the only problem i have in my class are a few annoying crackheads. BUT overall i would recommend the class.
He is really nice, smart, and helpful. Class is interesting, and he is cute!
Wonderful class! Great teacher! just review your notes before class and you shouldn't have any problem. Not an easy A class but worth it.
Wonderful Prof. Very helpful and has a great sense of humor. Though you do need to study for his classes.
He's a great professor and the class is very interesting. It's not the easiest class to take but if you go to class and study your notes almost every night, you'll do fine in that class. I got an A! Also, if you've taken a class with Aleto before, you'll know how his tests formats are. Good luck!
I did NOT like this class.
This was a good class. You'll do well as long as you do the reading and study your notes. He's very helpful and interesting. I really enjoyed this class. I got a B- in this class.
Very tough class. Lecture course with no book. Tests are hard and there are six quizes that are unannounced.
Wasn't initially intersted in this class at all, but ended up loving it. Very smart, very helpful, very intersting. Have to put in the work.
His only mission is to instill his point of view in his students. He only tells you the side of the story that he wants you to believe. He belittles and insults his own colleges. He is offensive toward students with religious convictions. It seems like he just chooses to be a bad professor.
He is very straight forward in his teaching, and if you show up for class you will have no problems. He doesn't favor anyone, does not teach unjustly, and is always willing to listen and help. I think a lot of people had a problem with how much material was covered on each test, so maybe he could add a test to even it out. Use blackboard-it helps!
awesome guy. his classes are fun and interesting and you learn so much without even realizing it. a lot of notetaking, but mostly just from movies you watch. you get tested on the movies and the articles you have to read, so make sure you pay a lot of attention to that. tests get harder as they come. no homework except studying
This guy is awesome. You get to watch some really fun and interesting videos. I wish he didn't have maps on the test, but he warned us fair enough. I learned a lot, and he was fun to listen to. Take his class, but be prepared to take notes and study.
Dr. Aleto is very interesting, and his lectures usually are too. There is no textbook, just articles. The tests can be pretty hard, you need to remember a lot of stuff from the articles. But overall, he can be quite entertaining and he's not a bad professor.
This class was both informative and enjoyable. Dr. Aleto is a pretty cool guy and is very easy to get along with as long as you understand he is teaching from an edic standpoint. He is respectful towards religious beliefs, but will not show preference for any in particular. If that offends you, you might as well avoid Anthropology altogether.
This class is easy if you come to class everytime and take good notes. He posts a lot of readings and other material on Blackboard to read. He doesn't have a textbook he uses. Everything is from his postings on Blackboard and notes during class.
I'm an anthro minor, and this class was ridiculously hard. I ended up dropping the class after getting the first exam back (failed after studying for 5 days). Don't take him unless its necesssary - he may be nice, but his classroom practices suck.
Dr. Aleto is one of the amazing professor that make a college experience. Sure he is tough, tests are intense and there is a bit of South American over load. But the man knows his stuff, you are a better student after it.
This prof is friggin sweet. Classes are not that bad. Folks who complain just can't keep up. Plus he is so easy on the eyes!
Man oh man he is tough. But classes are interesting, just take notes and read the articles. You'll be fine.
Really interesting class but it's not easy. Grade is based all on tests and they are challenging. No textbook only articles to read. Attendance isn't required but it's really helpful. Good class but not an easy A.
the more classes i have with dr. aleto, the more i respect him. he really knows his stuff and he's a great person.
I loved the class that i had with him, and can't wait to take more. He's one of the main reason's why i like anthropology so much now! I think that if you go to class and take notes that you should be fine. I repeat do not go to class and sleep!
Dr. Aleto is the best teacher I've had at Bloomsburg! People might think he's a tough teacher and his exams are hard, but if you go to class, make sure you understand what he's going over in class, and study your notes from time to time, it's not too difficult. I've learned so much about Anthropology by taking his classes and I'm definitely going t
He's a cool guy, but omg, I HATED that class! It's only 3 exams and if you bomb any of them (which you might 'cause he doesn't give study guides and there's no book) you're screwed for the whole class. If you have to take Antro, you should take it with Wymer. I took her and went from a D to an A. You do the math.
He's a good guy, he is fair and really fun. Do the readings for his class and you should be fine. I had him for Principles of Cultural Anthro, mass lecture and a good time. His experience in the field really helps enhance the learning environment and his stories really bring lecture material into perspective. A+ Prof.
I really liked his intro to cultural anthro. and he was a really nice guy because of him i took more anthropology classes. He really knows what he is talking about and you can tell that he likes what he does. he does have a lot of readings and you should deff. go to class if you want to pass.
Aleto's my favorite professor at Bloomsburg. If you want an easy A then DO NOT take his classes, but if you would actually like to work and learn something then go for it. He'll definitely help you if you need it; be sure to study the material well before the exam and attend class and you should be fine. Great sense of humor, loves what he teaches.
You have to go to class in order to get a good grade. here is no text book and a lot of the test questions are on movies and film clips that you watch during class. He is very interesting and makes the class fun
Cultural Anthropology with Aleto was a very interesting class. He gave assignments where you had to read articles about different cultures, and they were all interesting. There was no textbook. We also watched a lot of video clips. You need to go to class in order to get the notes, since there is no text, and take notes on the videos. Very fun.
awesome professor, teaches really well and explains everything in detail.
Dr. Aleto was such a fun and good teacher. I learned so much. His test are really hard so you have to do a good amount of studying. He is fun to listen to. Attendence is not mandatory but I wanted to go to class
I was in his cultural anthro class. He is a hard prof, but he teaches a lot of good info. I would not recommend his class if you are not willing to study a lot for tests and do a lot of outside work.
Aleto is really funny and loves what he teaches. This was my favorite class and it is really interesting. No book alot of lecture, watch movies all the time, and the readings are boring. If you take good notes and study the tests arent too bad. Id recommend this class to anyone, its really interesting and alot of fun.
worse professor ever--mean...really mean everyone. bitter, sarcastic, low self-esteem and takes it out on the students. miserable.
terrible prof--boring, grouchy, mean to students the worse prof at bu. it made me sick to sit and listen to his whining voice,
take it from an anthro major--this prof is the worse--arrogant, incompetent, and actually gets hysterical at students who post on this site--he silences us by contactin us by email and in class for saying anything negative about him on this site--seriously! where is is self-respect? self-esteem? it was pathetic. one of the most pathetic things i
Take it from this anthro major--aleto is a good teacher. He made lots of comments about how to improve our writing. while most of us were working hard to improve and get good grades, a few crybabies were complaining to other teachers and writing nasty things on the web. They need to grow up and act like adults.
Horrible. Had him for two different types of classes. Intro to Cultural Anthropology was in a lecture hall. He was horrible. I didn't learn anything from him and he graded worse. His Prehistoric Archeology was no better. His "field work" was outdated and not even real field work that is done today. Want a good teacher? Go elsewhere or be aware.
I had Aleto this semester. He's the very best professor I've had at BU. Very organized and clear. Use lots of interesting videos. His tests are hard and really test your knowledge. If you want an easy A, look elsewhere. He's also very helpful if you go to his office
This was the worst professor I have ever had. Most boring and useless class ever. Lectured the whole tme and had to take notes. Tests are IMPOSSIBLE. DO NOT take this class. Its horrible
This was a great class. The tests are hard, but if you attend class, take notes and pay attention you'll be fine. Uses all kinds of interesting videos to illustrate his points. The readings are cool too. My favorite class this year and my favorite teacher at BU
horrible professor do not take any of his classes he clearly needs another profession because he is a miserable old man and grumpy go find another job somewhere other than bloomsburg
A very good professor for cultural anthro. He teaches very well and uses his own life's work to get his ideas across. No textbook, just a bunch of reading articles about different cultures than can be fun to read. Definitely not an easy class but if you actually take the time to study, you'll be fine.
A very good professor. He makes all of his points very clear, and also interesting. His tests are only difficult it you don't prepare for them. Anyone that disliked him obviously wasn't willing to put any sort of effort into the class and failed because of it.
Do not take his class. Makes his tests way harder than they need to be. Even if you understand all the points on the study guide and prepared well, there are still many trick questions that end up screwing you over. Had A's and B's in all other classes this one failed, don't take it.
Everyone needs to stop complaining. If you go to class, take notes, and attempt the outside readings, there's no reason you can't pass. Most of the material is interesting and if you study beforehand you should at least get a B. The only reason to do poorly in one of his classes is a lack of effort. I'm not even an anthro major. Stop being lazy.
I had him for principle cultures of anthropology. I found the class to be very interesting and easy. He is a very smart and funny guy. All you have to do is take notes and print out the readings. He doesn't make you buy a book. Don't ask or answer questions unless you have something smart to say cause he will embarrass you.
Super smart
AMAZING professor. Super smart. Knows what he is talking about. Will yell at you for talking or using your phone. Interesting class however and made me interested in the class. Definitely recommended.
He knows what he is talking about. He saves you money buy not making you buy a book. INstead you have to print out readings. If you actually read the material and go to class you will be fine. All his tests are from the readings and movies you watched so dont sleep during the movie
Really good prof. Not sure why everyone says he's grumpy and arrogant on here. I found his lectures to be extremely interesting and movies and articles that supplemented class enjoyable. Tests were hard if you didn't go to class or read... kind of like any test.
Aleto is the man. Had four classes with him, best prof I had at Bloom, brilliant, entertaining, a walking encyclopedia on Central and South America. Sarcasm and self-deprecation are how he rolls. You need to read, write and think very well, and while not mandatory you need to show up for his lectures. Avoids expensive texts as much as possible.
He has so many cool stories and shares a lot of his research work which is really interesting. You have to read the book. When I went in for help he sent me to his TA, who was not a lot of help.
Dr. Aleto is awesome, he is one of the intelligent professors I have come into contact with at BU. He is not an easy A like some other course however, if you want to learn and be inspired, then he is the right Prof for you.
Very interesting class. Great teacher. Has a lot of interetsing things to teach from experience. Read the book and the articles he assigns and you will do fine.
Not an easy professor, but his lectures are interesting. You really need to study stuff in detail, especially the articles. He makes a lot of comparisons between cultures on his tests. Overall, not too bad a professor.
Amazing professor, there is something cute about him!
Sarcastic, witty, and very clear on what he wants. If you need a gen ed, take this class. No textbook, but make sure you read EVERY article he posts IN DEPTH. You never know what'll be on the exam.
His tests are hard but if you take notes and study hard you'll do good. Don't skip class, you miss a lot. STUDY THE MAPS!!!!
One of the best professors on campus! Dry sense of humor but really cares about hit students and will help wherever he can. I can honestly say that I wouldnt have got through my major if it wasnt for him and all his help and support!
Truely an amazing man! His lectures are VERY interesting. My grade was my fault because I was too focused on a certain class for my psych major. Tests get a bit confusing towards the end of the semester. He is the reason I want to continue in anthro. No textbook but keep up with the readings and you'll be fine! Interesting movies too!!!
Tough class, but lectures are very interesting. Tests are pretty hard so study notes and articles IN DETAIL. If you need help go to him during his office hours.
The hardest class I have had at BU yet. His test are hard to study for and the questions are very difficult. I wouldn't recommend taking this class with him. His lectures are pretty good, but he comes up with the hardest questions on tests. There are no other assignments, but 3 tests and a final. Doesn't like helping out too much either.
Although I am a criminal justice major, this is probably the most interesting class. I have learned so much and I highly recommend it. You will need to go to every class or you will miss a lot of information. He is a kind man and is willing to help only if you are willing to help yourself. READ THE ARTICLES!
Enriching class with no textbook because Aleto realizes how much of a scam they are. You get a few articles to read instead which are really interesting. Read those and show up for class to watch National Geographic type videos because a bunch of test questions come from there. He also organizes test reviews. Great prof. Hope to have him again.
