For the most part he's pretty easy going. My high school Music Theory class went at a very fast pace, but I feel he takes you in at a slow pace. He's pretty clear about what he's talking about and he's very witty too. So far I think he's a pretty awesome teacher!

I think he's pretty cool. He teaches well and he's very engaging.

He's very friendly and easy going, but he wants to make sure that his students understand, go to class, and complete homework...which is assigned pretty regularly, but ultimately helps you understand the concepts better. He's funny too!

Mr. Almli is a great teacher, and funny too. He takes his time to make sure you understand what he is teaching. It is not hard to get a good grade in his class if you study and do the homework.

Awesome teacher, awesome class. He delivers well, and is never boring. Truely cares for what he is teaching, and makes you love it too. Take this teacher.

I think he's amazing. He is understanding, he's well educated, he's a riot in the classroom, and he's passionate about his gift in music. Those qualities are perfectly balanced in his teaching style. He keeps you engaged and doesn't bore you. There's quite a lot of work, but if you pay attention and understand your texts you will be just fine.

Tom Is an incredible teacher, conductor, singer, musician and friend. I feel so lucky to have studied with him.

When he says to finish all of theory and get your AA before you go to four-year university, LISTEN TO HIM!! I wish I had. Great teacher.

Good online overview of rock history; no heavy coverage of specific styles or artists. Absolutely no interaction with other students and very little with instructor. Nice exposure to different styles and artists, but had to dig on my own to listen to them. Check out the Billboard hits collection for a great sampler of music mentioned in book.

Online - Awesome overview of the history of rock and roll - a very fun elective. Lots (20+) of short listening reports and quizzes plus a midterm and final. Use the text carefully to find all the answers and you should easily get a good grade as long as you keep up the pace and complete all the work.

Easiest class I've ever taken; likely because I'm older and I've "lived" a lot of the rock history. Perfect class for summer; easy 5 credits. Interesting and fun! Just critique some songs & he gives full credit + open book quizzes, midterm, and final all taken straight out of the book.

This class is brilliant. If you don't take it, from this specific professor, you're a damn fool. It is interesting and if you do the work you will get an A. I'm a Phi Theta Kappa because I know well enough to take classes like this. Unless your religion does not permit the listening of Rock & Roll you have no excuse not to take this class. Plan it!

History of Jazz Online was absolutely incredible. You must take this class. The Book is very good - but the best part is the music listening and discussions. Dr. Almli is the best at BC!

I took history of Rock & Roll because I am transferring to a school where I will be studying music business as my minor. This class was extremely informative and interesting. It was also alot of busy work. about 2-3 quizes and 2-3 listening and textbook discussions. It is an easy class. The tests are a bit tough but the discussion boards are easy.

History of Rock - rocks! Thomas Almli is the best. You should take this class online if you can. It has a lot of cool listening and a really good textbook.

I took History of Rock N' Roll online. It was great! The first few chapters are boring (learning about VERY early blues and folk music), but after that, there are some interesting facts to pick up on. As long as you do the work, you're pretty much guaranteed an A.

I was in jazz with Tom for 2 years, and it was one of the best experiences ever! He expects a lot from you but he wants you to succeed more than anything. If you are in jazz, be prepared for a lot of random assignments and weird tangent lectures sometimes but its all part of the Tom charm. He was one of my favorite teachers I've ever had.

Tom is lenient and very patient. If you post your analysis 3 weeks late, he will still give you full credit as long as you did the work. I did roughly a month's worth of work in a matter of 2 days... I don't recommend it. There is a few inaccuracies in the book, but that is hardly the instructor's fault. Overall, I would recommend this class.

I took the online course with Tom. It is super organized and well-paced. Assignments have a reasonable amount of time to submit. However, I found that the online textbook was really difficult to understand. Which made doing the assignments and quizzes difficult. This resulted in hours and hours of research outside to understand.

Music 107 is an excellent class. Professor Almli is by far the best prof I have had at Bellevue or WSU. I took this class to complete my WSU BA and it turned out I have decided to change my major from English to Music. I have always loved music, and Professor Almli helped me find my voice and my calling!

Great instructor! That said, his grading speed can be and should be enhanced though! It's worth to note that if you want to contact him, you need to pick the right email address of his. There are 2 email addresses and he only replies to one of them in time, which could probably be found on the school website.

This is a super easy class especially if you have some prior background knowledge on music. There's an online textbook but I never bought it or used it since he had a pdf of the textbook. There were just a few assignments and one quiz every week. Super manageable and pretty easy. I learned a lot too.

I am taking Music Fundamentals with Tom Almli. He is a great professor, and this is a great class. It has been my dream to learn to read and write music, and finally, I am. The class is well laid out. Professor Almli is ver accessible and responds quicky with helpful feedback.

Class was super easy. You can buy the textbook, but he gives the pdf of it on canvas. The final was online and similar to the past quizzes.

Tom Almli is the very best in vocal jazz. I love him and singing in his choirs. AMAZING!!!!!!!

Professor Tom Almli is famous and well known in the vocal jazz world as one of the best in the business. I am proud to work with him. I have learned so much and become a much better singer. In the time of Coronavirus, Tom taught us even more with a focus on us and solo singing, musicianship, and growth. Tom is simply a genius.

I can't even believe I have been able to study with such an AMAZING music professor. Tom is the BEST! He has changed my life. He cares so much for his students. YOU MUST SING AND STUDY MUSIC WITH TOM ALMLI!!!!!!

This class was doable as long as you put in the effort and time to read the chapters. All of the online and written assignments were due every Friday. You do have to spend money on the new online program that he uses for the assignments. Some of the topics were hard to understand but he's an overall solid professor. Also, plenty of extra credit!

Vocal Jazz at Bellevue College is the best. Thomas Almli is excellent, by far the best professor I have studied with. I recommend all of his classes.

Super easy going professor, very caring and you can tell he is passionate about music. I learned a lot from this class and i highly recommend it. It was not that hard online either.

Tom is so amazing. He is an excellent professor/teacher and inspires students to sing and perform at their greatest potential. He is caring and also confident enough to display our choirs on the National level year after year. He is one of the best Choral minds and Jazz Educators in the Nation. Music 107 is a really good course - super easy if you have a background in Music. I play piano so most of the course content was a review for me. Professor Almli is excellent and much more responsive than most online instructors. He cares about students success and keeps you on pace if you get behind.

WOW this professor is great! I love professor Almli. During Covid - he was willing to meet with me several times on zoom in addition to his office hours. It was so clear to me that he really cared about me and my success in this class. I wish I had more teachers like Tom Almli!!!!!

Mr Almli's class was pretty straight forward - as long as you do the readings each week and apply yourself a little bit there's no reason why you shouldn't get an A.

You learn all of the basics of music in this class. You have a test and a couple assignments each week but the tests don't have time limits. He also gives huge extra credit at the end of the class. I would recommend finding someone who already took this class!

I loved this class and this professor. I highly recommend it if you are interested in music.

This is the easiest class that I have took at BC. Every week you have an assignment and a quiz and they are so easy. And he gave extra credit for course evaluation which brought my grade up by FIVE percent.

Professor Almli is an awesome prof. I love this course. He has such a passion for music and makes the content super interesting. My appreciation for different types of music has expanded so much. Best class I have taken at Bellevue.

Easy pass, fun professor, I recommend this class! Professor Almli gave amazing feedback and is a gentle grader. The textbook and listening were really interesting, there is a final essay but if you do the other assignments you could skip it and still get a B probably. Extra credit for the course evaluation too.

Very kind and passionate teacher. He gave some excellent 'listening' assignments, and always had caring and informative feedback. He always had something kind to say about my work. One of the best classes I've ever taken, just be aware that the class (105) will be tough and a lot of work if you have zero musical background. 100% would recommend!

Very helpful professor that offered lots of external resources outside of the textbook. The class was pretty challenging if you are starting out learning how to notate music.

Professor Almli is excellent. Music Appreciation is a great class and I definitely got a lot out of it. Pretty easy and enjoyable if you do the reading and listening to the music.

I liked this class because I wanted to learn more about music theory. Professor Almli is a great theory professor and made the class fun and accessible. I feel inspired to keep writing music, learning to play better and continue studying theory and music writing.

Tom is a great professor and I loved his class.

Ignores emails, very delayed grading, however no late policy, and considering 95% of this class is just reading from the textbook and answering repetitive comprehension checks this class was very easy albeit mind numbing. Would take again only because of how easy this class is.

This is a great class. Not too hard, and the professor is very gracious with grading and allowing delayed work to be submitted. One of the better online classes I have taken.

Best Choir Director Ever!

Professor Almli is an excellent choir director and music teacher. He brings so much knowledge and insight, but at the same time is caring and specific with student needs. He taught me more in one quarter than I have learned in years of singing.

I love Professor Almli. His care for students and expertise in Choral Music and Music Theory and History make singing with him and learning so much about the music we study and sing is awesome. He is the best professor I have studied with.

Easy class but that's only because I have prior experience with playing instruments already, so if you're completely new or have little experience then this class may seem difficult but it's nothing too bad if you study. There were no lectures and we had to rely on an ebook and resources that the teacher provides for every chapter.

Tom Almli is an excellent Choir director. I love singing and working with him. BC is lucky to have him.

MUSC 107 is a great class under professor almli.

slow grader, but the assignments were straightforward and easy! you could redo them until you got 100%, which is nice. i learned a lot from this class and honestly.. it was chill! he also has no late work policy

Professor Thomas Almli is a great, caring person. I loved this class, introducing classical and other genres of music. If you do the reading and assignments, this is an easy A. Thomas is very forgiving and helpful if I got off track or needed help. He really cares about students, and his passion for music is infectious.

Professor Almli is awesome. He's a great teacher and conductor. I love his weaving of music history and theory into the choir. It was a thrill to perform a masterwork last year with a full orchestra and a guest choir. I am grateful to have such an amazing experience.
