Good teacher
His Scottish accent and amusing anecdotes can lead to an interesting class even through difficult material.
He is a cool teacher and has funny stories to tell. Relates almost every example to beer and liquor. He is a funny teacher and his classes are never boring. I would recommend him
The best teacher out there. He relates to the students and turns what most would deem a boring topic into pure entertainment. His ability to pass on his knowledge is unsurpassed in any college or University I've attended. Students leave his class really knowing something useful for life. Keeps Office hours. Is extremely helpful. Wants you to learn.
Absolutely Brilliant! He truly is what teachers everywhere should strive to be at the University level. I wish he taught more classes and that he was teaching at the University as well. Durham Tech has a real diamond in this one. Economics scared me at first and he made it so understandable. I really feel prepared because of him.
Tom is a GREAT teacher. aside from enjoying class everyday, I thoroughly enjoyed just stopping by his office and discussing the Fed's tremendous miscalculations, among many other economic issues. He's an extremely engaging professor, and keeps a light mood during class, constantly joking. just don't call him "**** beverige" ;-)
One of the best teachers at Durham Tech.
2nd time I have had him and I have learned so much. Tom is hilarious, brilliant, and fun. He presents the material very clearly, organized, and professionally. In my top 5 favorite teachers of all time.
keeps his material organized perfectly so it is easy to take good notes. Everything you need will be in your notes. He is very funny and he makes sure that you know your stuff.
Very helpful in explaining the vague descriptions provided by the book. Highly recommend taking the class with Beveridge...very knowledgeable about the subject, and relates the topic to your everyday life.
This man was an absolute blast to have as a professor. Aside from being really good at what he does he makes the class a lot of fun. He is constantly in a joyful mood. He knows the material like the back of his hand and he is always open for a good Q and A session. Please take Beveridge's class, you won?t be sorry.
Professor Beveridge can make MICRO economics fun and interesting. He can definitely hold the class's attention and proves to tell very funny anecdotes which are relevant to the course. I thoroughly loved his class and think he's an awesome professor who cares about all of his students... I give Prof. Beveridge an A++!
He is a very eccentric teacher. He was great as a professor and look forward to seeing him next semester.
Really made the subject interesting and fun. often offered real world examples to illustrate the premise or theory
Great Professor. Fun! Never lost our attention. Always explained things in ways that we can understand.
If you need to take economics take it with him! I don't think there were many classes where I didn't smile or laugh a couple times. He makes the subject fun and easy to understand.
Very funny and nice
Mr. Beveridge was the best professor I've had at Durham Tech. Class was entertaining but I learned a lot too. He was always ready to answer questions. Lets you borrow his notes and will spend time to explain material in his office.
good teacher, very funny but the material is well....confusing
This prof makes class entertaining and useful--a rare combination! The economy is going crazy on the news, but after taking this class, you'll be a more informed citizen. You'll be able to critically think about a politicians message on the economy. TAKE THIS CLASS, you will not find a better professor for economics!
He made a sometimes difficult class fun, easy to understand, and was always around for extra help and clarifications. I would recommend his class to anyone who want to get a good grasp in understand economics and its functions in our society.
I dreaded taking this class. But Bereridge made it pretty easy to understand and his grading scale is a gift. Don't waste your money on the textbook, just go to class and you'll get everything you need.
Great class and teacher. Be sure to study the Question Pool before the tests. Take Micro before Macro.
Brilliant! Very knowledgeable, helpful, and engaging. Class material difficult. I would definitely take a class taught by Prof. Beveridge again.
Beveridge is certainly one of the most engaging professors I have had over the years. He has a good sense of humor and he cracks jokes during class. Some people in my class thought he was boring, but I chalk that up to a lack of interest outside their particular field. I?d recommend taking Micro before Macro, but it won?t kill you if you don?t.
VERY (!) difficult class to take online!! However Mr. Beveridge was excellent as a teacher, very helpful and quick to respond to emails, which is a big help online. He provided a lot of good insights to correct mistakes.
I agree with the previous poster. Having taken Macro before, taking Micro seemed like a good idea but it was very time-consuming and difficult. I made an A but it was a struggle. Tom was really helpful and prompt in responding to my cries for help. Excellent instructor, one of the best:)
Mr. Beveridge is the greatest professor I ever had. He has a very sober and beautiful mind. He is excellent with he teaches. He can remember all our names through which he interacted with us in the class. He was never late for classn and never forgot anything he promised to students. He hepled us to enjoy the process and understand what we learn.
Great instructor, very knowledgeable, eager to teach, fun and exciting, very helpful and supporting, does not get annoyed by stupidity of the students, just a fun person with a world of knowledge.
Prof. Beveridge made macroeconomics applicable and comprehensible. At times, the material could be difficult; however, Prof. Beveridge used off-the-cuff examples to put the scenarios into perspective. He was always available to discuss any problems I had with the homework before class or via email. I recommend taking Prof. Beveridge's class!
Awesome Teacher :] Just finished taking his Microeconomics class and I also took his Macro class last semester. He is very easy to like and tries to make the class entertaining even though it is just lectures. Thanks Mr.Beveridge for making me look at the world in a different aspect.
Best teacher I have ever had at Durham Tech! Took him for Micro and now Macro. He is SO organized, helpful, interested in the subject and willing to do anything to make you understand the material! DO NOT leave Tech without taking a class with him! (I liked Macro better.)
Beveridge is an awesome teacher but he's got to be. This is a HARD class! I only made it thru with a LOT of help from him.
Aside from being really good at what he does, Professor Beveridge is hilarious, brilliant, and fun. His Scottish accent and amusing anecdotes can lead to an interesting class.
Expect an excellent teacher :) Expect a tough class :( Beveridge makes the material bearable and understandable. Take good notes because the textbook isn't great. Beveridge wrote the Study Guide and I found it worth buying.
The best instructor I have had at Durham Tech (2 years). Willing to help students whenever. Knows what he is teaching. I would take another class from him in a heartbeat. His class is not a give me. You will have to work to get an A. Buy the study guide. You will not get an A by his notes alone. He is very fair at grading.
Very effective teacher.
great teacher
Take Mr B's class! I really enjoyed it.
I took an online section of Intro to Microeconomics. I was worried that the online experience would be lacking. It was different from the classroom, but very satisfying and I felt like I learned the material thoroughly. Mr. Beveridge was always quick to respond to email questions and very helpful overall.
Mr. Beveridge is fantastic! He is a very thoughtful instructor--always answering questions and putting difficult material into sensible terms. Great guy.
A diamond in the rough. great teacher!!!! a true joy to be in his class. he does a great job teaching the incredibly complex subject of economics. not an easy A, but not impossible. strongly recommend.
This is not an easy class online, but Mr. Beveridge is always there to help. Although Macro isn't required for my degree, I want to take his macro class. He is the best of the best! An A+ Instructor.
Tough class. Great professor. Very quick to answer emails and willing to meet outside office hours. Very helpful.
He is very nice. I took the class on-line and in the summer so it was really hard. I went to his office hours and he really helped me understand the material. He was one of the best teachers I have had at Durham Tech, I would just recommend taking any Economics class in-class, not on-line.
Mr. B is an excellent teacher. Even though I took his class online, I still found it to be extremely challenging because it was during the summer session. Mr. B breaks things down so real world examples and that is what helped me the most in understanding concepts. If you want to understand Microeconomics, I would definitely recommend Mr. B!
By far the best professor I've had at Durham Tech. Helpful and available.
Mr. Beveridge is a good instructor who offers encouragment and wants students to understand the subject that he is teaching. I took this class during the summer semester which is difficult; however, if you turn your assignments in on time and participate well, you can be successful in this class.
Professor Beveridge is wonderful at what he does. He truly has a passion for teaching and for making sure his students are successful. I appreciated his words of wisdom and showing that he cares for his students. A caring professor does make a big difference in the success of their students.I certainly recommend Professor Beveridge hands down!
take good notes, ignorethe book (don't waste your money buying it). everything on the tests comes from class notes. great professor.
The best teacher at Durham Tech!! Hands down. Very outgoing and interesting which is useful as I had this class at 8am. Some of the material is a bit confusing he's able to clear it up. Strongly suggest taking a class with him. Lots of problem sets but he provides question pools" for tests.
An excellent teacher, he explains things in a variety of ways so everyone in the class can understand it. He grades pretty easily too. He's funny, helpful, and quirky: he looks a bit like a Scottish Einstein and most of his examples involve beer. If your looking for a good teacher with character, you've found him.
This was an online class through Durham Tech. Online classes are very challenging, particularly one with a such as complex as Economics can be. Mr. Beveridge is probably the best instructor I have had for an online class, and I have taken at least a half dozen of them while attending Durham Tech. Gives great feedback! GREAT INSTRUCTOR!
Tom Beveridge is a great professor. He is engaging and takes difficult material and makes it understandable. His tests push the limits and make you think. He goes above and beyond to ensure students understand and are successful. I highly recommend him!!
don't buy the book. beveridge explains everything and you can ask him questions.
Great instructor, very helpful. Convinced me not to drop the class and I ended with a A!
Mr Beveridge was very knowledgeable and easy to reach. He made a difficult course easy to understand. I would definitely take another course with him!
Take a course with The Man in Black! Our class met at 8 in the morning and Beveridge made sure we all stayed awake. Very organized course. You almost don't need the textbook
He's a great teacher and always there when you need extra help!
Awesome teacher. He is always very kind and helpful! Really enyojed his class!
Great teacher!
Excellent professor. One of the best at Durham Tech. Always ready to answer questions.
Mr. Beveridge was very helpful and matter when I needed his assistance. I would stop by his office weekly and he was alway there to answer my questions.Very Intelligate and knows what he is teaching!
Very good professor, easy to understand. He'll go out of his way to help you understand the material. Definitely recommend him.
He is the best professor. He goes out of his way to explain the contend and make sure he is clear and understandable. Recommended !!
Tom's awesome! The tests are fair and are very close to the Question Pool. He's generous with office hours and is willing to spend the time to make sure you get the concepts.
I've had Mr Beveridge for two courses now and wish I could take him again. He's an excellent instructor. Highly recommended, even if you don't like economics.
definitely will be taking eco 252 next time. great class
He knows his stuff and class was interesting and fun. Still trying to work out his politics. He jumps around in the textbook but makes it all hang together
An incredible instructor of a subject I didn't know I had any interest in. Always available to help and tutor. Lectures are clear with good examples. Subject matter DOES require reading and working the problems- no free ride - but the applications to daily life are astounding.
Awesome prof. very tough class.
Does he ever sleep? I took ECO 251 online (not a good summer choice) and emailed him at 3 one morning. He replied 5 mnin later! Very committed and supportive.
Took both 251 and 252 with him in a split semester. We only met once a week. Not difficult if you keep up with the reading, which isn't easy. Personally, I found the material quite engaging.
Beveridge made this a fun class. But do the problem sets. If you don't it can kill your grade. Don't buy the textbook.
Mr. B is awesome. Very engaging and knows a lot about Economics. He tends to wander off-topic sometimes.
I wasn't looking forward to the class in the beginning because this was my 2nd attempt at economics. The material is tough but he is a great teacher. Very supportive and willing to assist in any way. I took the course online and so accessibility was key. He gives good suggestions for understanding the material. I would definitely take him again.
I took this class online and used the book daily. Mr. B is great at helping you do your best. Even if you don't understand/care about the subject, all you have to do is try and you will do well. He's easy to communicate with and will take his time to explain anything. If he offers extra point assignments, do them! He's doing that to help you out.
My favorite teacher so far at Durham Tech. He's very helpful and generous with his time if you ask for help understanding difficult material.
Tom Beveridge is a great teacher and the class was excellent!
Great teacher - I highly recommend him and the course!
Enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor. His handouts are very helpful.
Amazing instructor. His handouts are better than the textbook. I wish he taught all my classes.
Awesome professor! Highly enthusiastic and entertaining as well as helpful.
Awesome prof even early in the morning! You learn a lot about what's going on in the class. Very topical.
Interesting but strange at times. If you want to know the economic significance of the flush toilet Beverage is your man!
Mr Beveridge goes out of his way to help you get a grasp on this challenging material. He's one of the best professors I have ever had.
Really awesome guy! He makes class interesting and wants you to well. The slides are sometimes difficult to read from the back of the room. You need to study for the tests. He gives you a Question Pool. Do it! Read his handouts, study your notes, and you should get a really high grade.
Had Beveridge for Micro and Macro, enjoyed both!
he is awesome teacher interesting way of teaching.
Very good professor. Is very clear in his instructions, and is very understandings. I was pleased with his course in the two Economics classes that I took. Very willing to help.
Took both MicroMacro. His grading system seems terrifying but is enormously generous. For some reason, obsessed with the discography of Neil Diamond and wears all-black outfit (possibly an economics vigilante in his spare time???) Eccentric, great lecturer. Oh, and theater student bonus: learn to mimic a Scottish accent fairly quickly.
I His lectures are the best I have ever got. I really enjoy his way of teaching.
Dr. Beveridge is one of the most entertaining and informative professors you will ever have. If you have the chance to take either of his classes, do so.
He is awesome! Helpful and dear! Very understanding, too. Make sure you do the work, and if you needs assistance with anything- he is there for you! I would definitely take the class again!
For this online class there were lots of discussion forums, but they weren't graded very harshly as long as you put some thought into it. The tests and quizzes could be difficult, but they weren't such a large portion of the grade.
He's not real good at explannig assignments
Solid Professor. The tests can be a bit confusing but a lot of it is common sense. His stories and quirks in class make the whole semester with him more enjoyable
The class is graded based on a point system, grades add up & if you're somewhere in the 800-900 range you receive an A. Don't miss any assignments. He gives 100 extra credit points throughout the semester.. So take advantage! you can go at least one letter grade up just by doing extra credit.
The weekly forums are super annoying. The guy below me is correct also..
Great professor. Explained stuff well, gave good homework problems, wasn't too hard at all if you paid attention in class. Was happy to help with questions etc.
He's a nice man, but honestly I really struggled in this class. I think he's hard to follow because his understanding of Economics is so much broader than the topics we are learning. If he worked on reaching down to the level that we actually are learning he might be more helpful. His teaching style is also very outdated and boring.
The class was not easy, but if you need help he is always there to help you. Please ask question if you do not understand, so he can help you more.
Beveridge is passionate about economics but does a subpar job at explaining relatively simple concepts. He can be funny, but is not a great teacher. (Also the way he grades is incredibly odd.) Good luck!
Beveridge is one of the best instructors I've had. Two pieces of advice. Buy the book. It's an expanded version of his notes. And sit near the front of the room. He used an old-fashioned overhead projector that's tough to read from the back of the room.
One of my favorite classes I have ever taken. He's a great instructor and really knows what he's talking about. You'll have to put in some studying time if you want an A. There is extra credit (a presentation or a video) but he's strict on meeting the requirements so don't leave it too late. If you take good notes you don't need the textbook.
He will explain a concept once and move on so get ready to watch YouTube. He skips around chapters twice in the semester. You will take a lot of notes and draw a lot of diagrams that make no sense. This class sucks so good luck.
Very quick with his lectures. LECTURE intensive. Not for people with low attention spam. Confusing hw, but quite easy. (they make you think) Watch out with the tests, they are weird, checkout his practice tests and you will be solid.
I've taken two classes with Old Tom, ECO 251 and 252. He's honestly a great guy and I'd never thought I'd enjoy econ lectures until I took his classes. Take my word on this; there will be no "Bueler, Bueler, Bueler" but instead get ready for hilarious anecdotes about drinking games and generally tomfoolery that somehow actually helps to learn econ.
Thomas Beveridge is my most funny teacher!!! He teaches things in a funny and unique way (Includes hilarious stories like "Rory the Basset Hound", "Going to Paris", and many more: ), allows for extra credit, and will make you love economics. He deserves 7 stars!!!!!!!
took the online class which was the best decision ever. If you ever have a question don't hesitate to email him, he's very quick at emailing back and helps out a lot. DO the extra credit they really do help push over that grade. DO the reading assignments, quizzes come right out of them. All in all, as long as you do your work you'll be fine.
His way of grading seems daunting but actually makes it easier to get an A. I took ECO 251 and 252 and made sure to get him both times because of how easy everything was. Being in class and turning things is are what he counts as participation, you do not need to take good notes or answer questions. He is hilarious and wants you to get an A as well
He is super great. His power points are amazing. Its really helpful. I also met him in person and he has such a warm heart and kind heart.
He is entertaining, energetic, knowledgeable, has a good sense of humor, and teaches the class in a manner that is quite learnable. His demonstrations keep the coursework interesting (and funny). He knows his stuff and communicates the information clearly. I cant count the number of times he made me laugh during this ECO 251. He is amazing! 10/10!
I read the reviews for him before I took his class this semester online. I do not know what happened but the professor I got was nothing like the reviews. It takes him months to grade papers (with a three week period with nothing happening due to COVID), he does not respond to emails and is very hard to reach and distant. I was not expecting it.
Typically stays in touch via email outside of class, and follows the textbook closely. Offers practice tests and quizzes that prepare you for over 85% of the questions on graded tests and quizzes. Writing is required but the length of papers and responses are as few as 5 sentences or at the most about 1000 words typically (for papers). Respectful.
There's been a question of his longevity and the deprivation of his PhD. It is indubitable that positive recognition may come to this man. He is a deprived scholar and brilliant mind who knows exactly how to pierce the deficit of attention of his students.
I took Mr. Beveridges principles of microeconomics class online with no meeting time. All in all, this class is pretty straightforward. Concepts can be tricky, but if you take the time to reread certain sections of a chapter, youll be fine. Mr. Beveridge offers a good amount of extra credit as well. Thus, I recommend taking Beveridge for econ.
This class is easy and is based on many common-sense topics. Assigned is a chapter or two each week followed by a forum and quiz. Dr. Beveridge communicates one on one with you weekly and gives helpful feedback on the week's assignments. If you fall behind don't worry extra credit is provided weekly.
I took ECO251 this summer with Professor Beveridge and it was pretty easy, but there was a decent amount of work since it was a short semester. Everything is very straightforward so it makes it easier, and as long as you do the readings and do the practice exams he gives for his quizzes/test you'll be totally fine. He also gives extra credit.
I had Mr. Beveridge in person and it seems like he's lost some of his teaching pizazz coming out of the pandemic. He seems like a brilliant man, but his lectures feel a little scattered and disconnected from the level we are at. Most people in the class are pretty confused and don't know what to take notes on because he doesn't write down much.
Mr. Beveridge was probably the best teacher I had at Durham Tech, 10/10 would recommend him. I actually enjoyed going to his class, he made everything really understandable and would give many example of different economic principles. Some of which were really funny stories. Also, taking notes was super easy.
LOTS of reading - but just do it - and you will get a good grade. The whole course is reading and quizzes/tests, and believe me they are all not very difficult. Course is overall well organized just read the textbook and take notes!! Personally I just used text to speech on my online textbook and sat back with a cup of coffee and enjoyed the ride.
Interested in teaching 4 grades for 25% HW, Test 1,2 and final understanding the overall grading is confusing but definitely benefits the student's Ex: 6 participation points that you start with earn 3% on final exam lost by lack of attendance or not turning in HW HW is due next class between 5 to 10 in total top 5 become HW grade which is 25%
Dr. Beveridge is a great teacher. I took ECO 252 and 251. Both of the classes were great. Each week, students are usually assigned a quiz and a discussion post, both of which are relatively easy. The discussion posts are usually graded on relevance to the prompt. The textbook has all of the necessary knowledge for the quizzes & tests too.
While he seems like he knows a lot, his class is very lecture based and his lectures are sometimes all over the place and hard to keep up with, especially if you don't really like Econ or can't sit in long lectures. His way of grading is really odd, he uses "quality points" instead of just using your regular numerical grade you get on stuff.
Not everyone can learn from this professors teaching habits. He's not great at explaining things, and takes offenes to questions; And catches attitudes. Once you start receiving problem sets for homework, you probably will start rethinking taking this class because his lectures leading up to them did not prepare you for the problem sets at all.
Prof. beveridge is fantastic. I took both of his econ classes at DT and he consistently provided good instruction. It is helpful to read the textbook along with lectures, but if you read, do your homework, and attend lectures, it shouldn't be too difficult. He is also very easy to access outside of class. He does work you hard, but he's thorough.
Mr. Beveridge is always available. He has office hours at like literally anytime. He's a very quick grader. He is a little unhinged but in the best way possible. He actually does care about you understanding the material and is eager to help with any questions. Also with the way that he grades, you literally just have to try and you'll pass.
This class was a lot. The teacher took a while to grade my work, so I was unable to get feedback quickly. You are assigned many chapters to read each week, with many practice quizzes and quizzes to accompany each chapter. You have a good number of tests, but if you just study a lot, you will do well in this class.
Professor Beveridge's ECO251 class is straightforward. Just do the readings, stay engaged, and you'll pass easily. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for test prep - definitely check it out!
Other than his weird grading scale, his class is amazing. He is not very tech-savvy, but that wasn't much of an issue for the class. His lectures were a highlight of my day sometimes, and I would love to take his class again.
While in this class, I thought I would fail! The test would bring my grade down sm. However, there are significant opportunities for extra credit at the end of the semester, so don't worry!!!!! Ask for help if you are struggling! Also, the tests are way harder than the quizzes, so study hard. Good Luck!
Funniest teacher at the school. Gives interesting lectures as well. Biggest thing that holds him back is his esoteric quality points grading system, it's needlessly complex for no reason, and was the only reason I didn't get an A. He had annoying multiple choice tests too, but he also had group tests which were actually good, find someone smart.
I really enjoyed him. Don't be worried. Take his class if you can. The grading scheme is different, so make sure to track your grade (point system). He will respond if you email him outside class! I asked him about his economics journey, and he literally took the time to tell me everything. He also gives plenty of extra credit, so don't worry.
Professor Beveridge was very easy to work with and met over Zoom with me when I had questions. He gave good feedback and was always open for you to ask him about things you do not understand. His tests were difficult but once you know the material you're set.
